- 0:00Back in our Yukon Hockey Coaches Show prior to the final game of the regular
- 0:04season that comes up on Thursday. The Huskies will host Vermont coverage right at
- 0:09seven o'clock begins, because we do have a geneo orem a coach a show
- 0:12to get in the final one of the yearback. We're down to the final
- 0:15coaches shows, last one for Gino's Thursday Coach Hurley's a week from tomorrow night.
- 0:20You're recording that one, right, yes, sir, all right,
- 0:22don't forget please to be calling in Theory Championship game. Yeah, I'll hopefully
- 0:27you'll be busy Monday night call the women's Biggiest Championship game at Mohegan Sun here
- 0:31with coach cav Tell me about Saturday's game. The lost to Northeastern is a
- 0:35scoringdicative of how things went. It seems like you guys put in a pretty
- 0:38good effort. I saw you had a lot of shots on goal. No,
- 0:41we actually played better Saturday than we did Friday. Really, yeah,
- 0:44we did. And again it was one of those periods you know we played
- 0:52I think after two per second period, I think we all shot him twenty
- 0:56to eight. We had the whole puck the whole time, in the majority
- 1:00of the time, and uh, we're down three to one. You know,
- 1:03we got the one goal and then start the third period. They scored
- 1:08about a minute into the third period, and we got one late, but
- 1:12we just couldn't. We didn't have as much offensive pressure in the third period
- 1:19as we did in the first two. But it was it was frustrating to
- 1:23play so well in the first period and then you're down to nothing, you
- 1:25know, coming into the locker room. So but you know, we stayed
- 1:29with it and again had a great second period and had it at three to
- 1:32one, and we needed to get that next goal to make it three to
- 1:36two to get the crowd really into it. I think we talked earlier in
- 1:38the year about the main line with the NATO brothers, and then you've got
- 1:42the rich Kobean's for Northeastern comparing contrast the I don't know that that second level
- 1:49of communication that those guys can have with one another because they're siblings and playing
- 1:53on the same line like that. Yeah, they're both good. Lines are
- 1:59a little different the way they play. But I think when you grow up
- 2:04playing with a brother like you have that sixth sense and yeah, know where
- 2:08they're going to be and certainly a familiarity level that other players don't have.
- 2:15So they're good though. And Rascovie and I really the older one, just
- 2:23right, really respect his game. I don't know the younger one as well
- 2:27yet, but the older one he plays a two hundred foot game and he's
- 2:31good on faceoffs. He's a real good player. Yeah, he's one of
- 2:36the leaders. In fact, Northeastern came into that weekend the top face off
- 2:38team in the country and Justin's think somewhere around sixty percent. Yeah, and
- 2:43we beat him on face offs on Saturday. They took it to us in
- 2:47the second period. On Friday night this year, I think I think we
- 2:51only won three draws in that second period, But Saturday we won the faceoff
- 2:55game against them. So for Hudson Chandur, where he was eight of twenty
- 3:00six on Friday and then goes fifteen of twenty four, you said that this
- 3:05is something he takes personally, that he loves the face off and the gamesmanship
- 3:07of it. So how do you flip that? How do you go from
- 3:10one to the other night overnight? Yeah, I think some nights some nights,
- 3:15the other guy has your number, you know, So I don't think
- 3:17there's anything you know, he didn't. I don't think he might have changed
- 3:23his approach a little bit. But some nights the guy just has your number,
- 3:29you know, and it's just not your night. So you got to
- 3:30try to find different ways to get a stalled puck and hopefully your wingers can
- 3:35get you there. Yep. So Mike, how's Chase Bradley doing. He's
- 3:38good. He practiced today and we're hoping to have him for Thursday. Yeah.
- 3:45So you know, for someone like him, what is noticeable when he's
- 3:53not in the lineup? What is the layer that is missing with a talent
- 3:55like Yeah, well, he just plays in so many situations for us of
- 4:00our first penalty killers over the boards. He's such a strong skater and physical
- 4:06player, so we lost a little bit of our physicality with Chase out,
- 4:12but it just he also lengthens our lineup, you know, our lineup gets
- 4:15a little bit deeper when he's in the lineup because you can slot other guys
- 4:21in different areas. So we you know, we certainly missed him this weekend,
- 4:27that's for sure. What do you like about Nick Capone's game this weekend.
- 4:30It sounds like he had one of his better weekends. He didn't take
- 4:31any penalties, so I thought that was good. And it's some reputation though
- 4:36it can be, but some of it's you know, Nick sometimes has a
- 4:41tendency to get his hands up a little high and when and he's working at
- 4:46it, and he made a conscious effort this weekend, you know, when
- 4:48he finished his checks to keep his hands down, because when they ride up
- 4:54high, that's when you can you know, hit a guy's head or it
- 4:59never ever looks good either. No, no, you're given the referee a
- 5:03kind of an easy call sometimes. Yeah. I just I found it interesting
- 5:06that capone has only committed penalties in eight games, and he's committed two penalties
- 5:13in each of those games that he's committed one, So he hasn't committed one
- 5:15penalty in a game. It seems to snowball a little bit when he's taken
- 5:17the first. It's been at least one five minute major too, I think,
- 5:21so, yeah, actually two too, So that's those are the killers
- 5:28too. But he played a very disciplined game and he was good. What
- 5:33have you thought of Sam who's played lately that I thought he's really started to
- 5:38turn the corner for us. And it's funny because I noticed him in practice
- 5:42today and we need him. We certainly need him because he's very good on
- 5:47face offs and he's a big, strong body. I thought he won a
- 5:51lot of battles over the weekend. You know, scored the goal, but
- 5:56also on the given goal. Goal was at the first goal Bob on Friday
- 6:00night. Yeah, you're talking about the play along the board. Yeah,
- 6:02but Sam who made that play? Yes, you know, and he made
- 6:04that little outplay. So he's I've been really happy with his play lately.
- 6:13Oliver Flynn is going to be joining us on the show. Chatted with him
- 6:16earlier today twenty two games, he picked up his first goal. Where is
- 6:20his progression along the start of his career. Well, I mean he's just
- 6:26coming in, you know, to the program, and I know a lot
- 6:30of it's been new, and he's certainly obviously how he is is in the
- 6:36classroom is also how he is on the ice. He's very detailed and doesn't
- 6:41make many mental mistakes, and he's committed to being a good player. He
- 6:45spends a lot of time in the weight room. He does a lot of
- 6:47things. You know, we have a sign in our locker room that says
- 6:50how you do anything, so how you do everything? And I think Oliver
- 6:56is the epitome of that. Like, if he's going to put his mind
- 6:59to something, he's going to do it to the very best of his ability,
- 7:01committed to the process rather than results. It sounds like in many ways,
- 7:05Yeah, I think so, I think, And when you're committed to
- 7:08that process, you usually get the results. Mike back to Matt for a
- 7:11minute. I'm sure he was equally frustrated that the puck wasn't going in the
- 7:15net. For a guy that is has that ability year in a year out
- 7:19to have struggled a good chunk of the year, how's he handled it?
- 7:23Do you think it's been frustrating for him? But I think he keeps working
- 7:27and you know he was on the ice this morning working on his game,
- 7:30and you know he's he's again he's another one committed to be the very best
- 7:39player he can be. So he's always do an extra to become a good
- 7:45player. And I've tried to tell him that you can affect the game in
- 7:47so many different ways. It just doesn't have to be on the scoreboard.
- 7:50You know, you can affect it with your defensive play. You can affect
- 7:55it with you know, setting other guys up. Yeah, you know,
- 8:01finishing your checks and creating momentum. We can affect it face off play.
- 8:07So you've got to be careful not to just get focused on goals and assists,
- 8:13right unders. Yeah, on that note, like a lot of times
- 8:18I Geno's kids because I do their games. Obviously they got a bunch of
- 8:22gym rats. Do you have this where like I'll use Page for instance,
- 8:26tries to find different angles and ways to score with the basketball? How do
- 8:31they do that in practice? If you're out there by yourself working on your
- 8:33game, what kind of things can you Well, Maddy had one net turned
- 8:37over today, so really the only place he could you know, and put
- 8:41that with it, you know, the nets, so all he could put
- 8:45it was upstairs, you know. So he was working on shooting today and
- 8:48hitting certain spots. You know, you can work on it just coming out
- 8:52of a corner, a cutback and come out of a corner and shoot far
- 8:56side. There's certain there's a lot of different ways you can create that.
- 9:01You know, Tyler and Mike and Vince and are on the ice a lot
- 9:05in the morning, feeding them one timers or tipping pucks, you know,
- 9:11shooting from the blue line and tipping pucks. So there's so many different ways
- 9:15to score, and just try to put them in those situations and practice it.
- 9:20We did stage in the season where some of these guys you're making sure
- 9:24that they're getting enough rest between you know, you want to be working and
- 9:26working and working, but their legs have to be tired at a certain point
- 9:30at the stage of the year. Yeah, I think though, you know,
- 9:33we didn't skate yesterday where we're not going very long. We're under an
- 9:39hour right now, you know, with our practices, so it's more about
- 9:43just staying fine tuned. And you know, if Vermont is doing something unique
- 9:48that we haven't seen, whether it's a face off player, something on their
- 9:52power player, a penalty kill, that's something will go over and practice.
- 9:56But for the most part, we're just working on our game. And as
- 10:00I said, they're quick up tempo practices. Now there's not Yeah, we
- 10:03didn't bagskate today. You know where it's late in the season. The kids
- 10:09are in pretty good shape. All right, we will give you a little
- 10:11break. Mister Helton's here in person, so we'll get in for a couple
- 10:13of segments. Awesome, all right, thank you Michael. When we come
- 10:16back, so see Coach Tower. Hilton joins us on the Yukon Hockey Coaches
