Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:06
Speaker 1: where we left off with Doug Band and his conversation
• 0:10
Speaker 1: with congress Question and again, I know you spoke about
• 0:15
Speaker 1: this earlier, but to dive in a little bit more,
• 0:18
Speaker 1: can you explain what your role was with President Clinton
• 0:21
Speaker 1: after he left the White House? Answer? My role when
• 0:24
Speaker 1: he left the White House, I was still finishing law school,
• 0:27
Speaker 1: so I was going to night school part time, you know,
• 0:30
Speaker 1: working full time to support myself, which was a lot.
• 0:33
Speaker 1: My role initially was just a continuation of what I
• 0:36
Speaker 1: did of my role as the President's aid when he
• 0:39
Speaker 1: was in the White House. Question what were those responsibilities? Answer?
• 0:44
Speaker 1: Those responsibilities were as was said earlier, his body man.
• 0:48
Speaker 1: I travel with them, maintained schedule, tried to keep them
• 0:51
Speaker 1: on time, giving his briefing materials. I was a staffer.
• 0:55
Speaker 1: Question and did that role change over the course of
• 0:58
Speaker 1: your employment with President Clinton after he left the White House? Answer?
• 1:02
Speaker 1: You know, as I said earlier to the Congressman, the
• 1:05
Speaker 1: staff was small, so I think everybody jumped in and
• 1:08
Speaker 1: did whatever different roles, So my role I think morphed
• 1:11
Speaker 1: over time. Into doing more things, but inside the staff,
• 1:14
Speaker 1: inside his staff, in his office. Question, so, during this
• 1:18
Speaker 1: time after he leaves the White House, generally speaking, if
• 1:21
Speaker 1: somebody wanted to speak with President Clinton or a arrange
• 1:25
Speaker 1: a meeting with him, how would that work? Answer? You know,
• 1:28
Speaker 1: there is a number of ways someone could arrange a
• 1:29
Speaker 1: meeting or speak with them. They could call him. He
• 1:32
Speaker 1: had a cell phone, his house, his office, all other staffers,
• 1:35
Speaker 1: his friends, his family. There was a number of ways
• 1:38
Speaker 1: to get in touch with him, and a number of
• 1:40
Speaker 1: ways to set meetings and visit with them. Question and
• 1:43
Speaker 1: the reason I ask to go back to this Vanity
• 1:45
Speaker 1: Fair article in December of twenty twenty. I'll represent to
• 1:49
Speaker 1: you that it says, quote, because Clinton didn't carry a
• 1:52
Speaker 1: cell phone or use email, anyone who wanted to speak
• 1:55
Speaker 1: to Clinton had to go through Doug Band. Do you
• 1:57
Speaker 1: disagree with that characterization? Answer? I do. I mean, again,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: to the best of my recollection, he had his own
• 2:03
Speaker 1: cell phone. I don't know at what point he got
• 2:06
Speaker 1: it or I don't recall when he got his own
• 2:08
Speaker 1: cell phone, but there, as I said, there's a number
• 2:11
Speaker 1: of ways to get President Clinton to contact them, to
• 2:13
Speaker 1: reach them, to be in touch to engage, to ask
• 2:16
Speaker 1: them things all those communications. Question, is it fair to
• 2:20
Speaker 1: say that part of your role with President Clinton was
• 2:23
Speaker 1: to evaluate and assist in making a decision whether to
• 2:26
Speaker 1: meet with someone. Answer? Well, ultimately, you know, the decision
• 2:31
Speaker 1: is his whether he wants to meet with somebody or not.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: My role in being a part of that process, along
• 2:36
Speaker 1: with a variety of other folks, would be more accurate.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: Yes question, And would you receive requests from external individuals
• 2:44
Speaker 1: to meet with President Clinton? Answer? I, along with other
• 2:47
Speaker 1: people did yes question, mister band. A few years after
• 2:51
Speaker 1: mister Clinton leaves the White House, the Clinton Global Initiative
• 2:54
Speaker 1: is formed. Is that right? Answer? Correct question? And what
• 2:58
Speaker 1: is the Clinton Global Initiative? Answer? The Clinton Global Initiative, Well,
• 3:02
  Speaker 1: it's hard to explain. I mean, it's complicated, a large
• 3:05
Speaker 1: philanthropic endeavor that now I don't know what its latest
• 3:09
Speaker 1: iteration is, but at the time it was set up
• 3:11
Speaker 1: sort of going back a little bit and trying to
• 3:13
Speaker 1: answer a little bit more than what you're asking. But
• 3:16
Speaker 1: President Clinton attended a lot of conferences around the world,
• 3:19
Speaker 1: and a lot of those conferences people sat around and
• 3:22
Speaker 1: talked and self importance and those kinds of things. Something
• 3:25
Speaker 1: that I was very passionate about was believing that we
• 3:29
Speaker 1: that we as a country and we as a world,
• 3:31
Speaker 1: could really change the face of how people engage in
• 3:34
Speaker 1: philanthropic activity, in civic service. And so I spent a
• 3:38
Speaker 1: lot of time thinking and coming up with an idea
• 3:40
Speaker 1: that would be about changing the way that philanthropy was
• 3:43
Speaker 1: engaged upon around the world and certainly in this country,
• 3:47
Speaker 1: and where everybody could pay it forward or give some
• 3:49
Speaker 1: time to civic engagement or public service of some kind.
• 3:53
Speaker 1: And so morphing that into an idea to create the
• 3:56
Speaker 1: Clinton Global Initiative, which was a conference that was created
• 3:59
Speaker 1: for people to come and provide concrete actions rather than
• 4:03
Speaker 1: just sort of sitting around and talking. And so that
• 4:05
Speaker 1: led to you know, commitments all over the world of
• 4:08
Speaker 1: billions and billions of dollars impacting hundreds of millions of
• 4:11
Speaker 1: people around the globe. Question and do you recall when
• 4:14
Speaker 1: the Clinton Global Initiative was formed? Answer? It was in
• 4:18
Speaker 1: the early two thousands where I had started thinking about this.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: I believe the first one was launched in two thousand
• 4:23
Speaker 1: and five. I mean, that was again a long time ago.
• 4:26
Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure when the first one was question,
• 4:29
Speaker 1: and just for my benefit, what's the difference between the
• 4:32
Speaker 1: Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative. Answer, that's a
• 4:36
Speaker 1: good question. The Clinton Global Initiative was its own separate entity,
• 4:40
Speaker 1: which was about the conference and bringing together of people
• 4:43
Speaker 1: to make concrete actions to do good around the world
• 4:46
Speaker 1: and engage on things. The Clinton Foundation was you know,
• 4:49
Speaker 1: presidents have presidential foundations upon leaving office, and his foundation
• 4:54
Speaker 1: was created by him, as I said earlier, about going
• 4:57
Speaker 1: on these humanitarian trips and missions and create initiatives and
• 5:01
Speaker 1: lots of other things fell within that framework. Questions, So
• 5:05
Speaker 1: I want to turn the statement to mister Epstein's lawyers
• 5:07
Speaker 1: that have made in correspondents legal correspondence. So in two
• 5:11
Speaker 1: thousand and seven, mister Epstein's lawyers claim that he was
• 5:14
Speaker 1: quote part of the original group that conceived the Clinton
• 5:17
Speaker 1: Global Initiative. Do you agree with that statement? Answer? No question.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: And miss Maxwell told the Department of Justice last July
• 5:24
Speaker 1: that she was quote very central to the startup of
• 5:27
Speaker 1: the Clinton Global Initiative. Is that your recollection? Answer? I
• 5:31
Speaker 1: have no recollection of her being involved whatsoever. Questions. So
• 5:35
Speaker 1: generally speaking, you know, we spoke about your role with
• 5:38
Speaker 1: President Clinton in particular. What was your role with the
• 5:41
Speaker 1: Clinton Global Initiative Answer, well, you know, I conceive the idea.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: As I said, I thought about this for a long
• 5:48
Speaker 1: long time and really believed that there was an opportunity
• 5:51
Speaker 1: and a void existed for creating a way for people
• 5:54
Speaker 1: to engage civically and as I've said, give back and
• 5:57
Speaker 1: pay a forward and engage in society. That vision of
• 6:00
Speaker 1: mine translated all the way down to very young kids
• 6:04
Speaker 1: when they would go to kindergarten, would start spending a
• 6:06
Speaker 1: day or a month or a day a quarter giving
• 6:09
Speaker 1: back in some form, whether that was clearing up a
• 6:11
Speaker 1: beach or a park or whatever, whatever they could do.
• 6:14
Speaker 1: And so the CGI was born out of that vision.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: I recall writing a memo to the President laying out
• 6:20
Speaker 1: my vision for what I thought this could be, and
• 6:22
Speaker 1: him approving it. Moving forward, there was, you know, then
• 6:25
Speaker 1: he hired someone who was a director, a CEO if
• 6:28
Speaker 1: you will, of CGI and production staff. It was entirely
• 6:32
Speaker 1: massive endeavor at a hotel with signage and events and people.
• 6:36
Speaker 1: It was a huge conference. Question And were you a
• 6:39
Speaker 1: paid employee of CGI? Answer? I don't believe that I was.
• 6:43
Speaker 1: I don't remember specifically who paid me at the time,
• 6:45
Speaker 1: I mean which entity paid me, because there was a
• 6:48
Speaker 1: lot of different entities. But my job was in the
• 6:50
Speaker 1: President's office on his staff, not on CGI staff or
• 6:53
Speaker 1: foundation staff. Question and Hew did CGI operate generally? For example,
• 6:58
Speaker 1: he did CGI find didn't engaged donors? Answer? There was
• 7:02
Speaker 1: an entire part of CGI, as far as I recall
• 7:04
Speaker 1: and know, that engaged in finding people and to make commitments.
• 7:08
Speaker 1: End you know, someone that had solar panels that could
• 7:11
Speaker 1: donate them to a village in Africa, or they needed
• 7:14
Speaker 1: to be shipped, so you had to find someone that
• 7:15
Speaker 1: was willing to donate the panels, someone that would ship
• 7:18
Speaker 1: the panels, someone that would install the panels. So it
• 7:22
Speaker 1: was a multi led effort by CGI's staff at the
• 7:25
Speaker 1: time that did all those kinds of things. Question and
• 7:28
Speaker 1: do you know how Jeffrey Epstein and Glenn Maxwell became
• 7:31
Speaker 1: engaged with CGI? Answer? I do not recall how they
• 7:35
Speaker 1: became involved in CGI if they were. Question do you
• 7:38
Speaker 1: recall having any conversation with either of them about CGI? Answer?
• 7:43
Speaker 1: I don't recall having conversations with either about CGI. Question
• 7:48
Speaker 1: and we'll get into the flights a bit later. But
• 7:50
Speaker 1: there were several trips as you spoke about earlier, where
• 7:53
Speaker 1: President Clinton flew on Epstein's plane to various places across
• 7:56
Speaker 1: the world for humanitarian reasons. Was that through the Clinton Foundation? Answer?
• 8:01
Speaker 1: I believe so when you say through the foundation, to
• 8:04
Speaker 1: the best of my recollection, he was traveling to a
• 8:06
Speaker 1: lot of trips where you know, they were complex. There
• 8:09
Speaker 1: was a lot of different things going on during the trip. Speeches, meetings, coffees,
• 8:14
Speaker 1: old friends, world leaders, humanitarian efforts. There were a lot
• 8:18
Speaker 1: of things going on. So I don't want to characterize
• 8:21
Speaker 1: it as just one thing, but for the most part, yes,
• 8:24
Speaker 1: under the rubric of the Clinton Foundation. Question and shifting
• 8:28
Speaker 1: gears a little bit, I know there's some ambiguity when
• 8:31
Speaker 1: you first met Glenn Maxwell, But when did you first
• 8:34
Speaker 1: meet Glenne Maxwell? Was it your understanding that she was
• 8:36
Speaker 1: in a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein a romantic relationship? Answer
• 8:41
Speaker 1: I don't recall having a view on that at all.
• 8:43
Speaker 1: Question you didn't have a view on that or you
• 8:45
Speaker 1: didn't know about it? Answer neither, I don't know. Question
• 8:49
Speaker 1: did you ever get an understanding that Jeffrey Epstein and
• 8:51
Speaker 1: Gleann Maxwell were in a romantic relationship? Answer not that
• 8:55
Speaker 1: I recall question from redacted mister band. I'm going to
• 9:00
Speaker 1: walk through some specific interactions between Clinton and Epstein and Maxwell,
• 9:05
Speaker 1: but first I would like to just clarify something from
• 9:08
Speaker 1: the previous hour. You said that President Clinton and Jeffrey
• 9:11
Speaker 1: Epstein appeared to be friends. Is that correct? Answer? Yes, question,
• 9:15
Speaker 1: but you also said that you were never present during
• 9:18
Speaker 1: any conversation between President Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein. Answer. I
• 9:22
Speaker 1: believe I said, I don't recall any conversations. Question, so,
• 9:27
Speaker 1: what made you think that the two of them were friends? Answer?
• 9:31
Speaker 1: That's a good question by virtue of the time they
• 9:33
Speaker 1: spent together. That was just my perception that I have
• 9:36
Speaker 1: today that I recall thinking that they were friends. I
• 9:40
Speaker 1: don't know what the specifics of that are, but I
• 9:42
Speaker 1: just remember that question. Is it true that most of
• 9:46
Speaker 1: the time they spent together though? Was these humanitarian trips
• 9:50
Speaker 1: or other business related meetings. Answer? I don't know. I
• 9:53
  Speaker 1: think it's probably a better question for him. I don't
• 9:56
Speaker 1: think so. I think they spent time together. I think
• 9:59
Speaker 1: that was the major of the time they spent together. Question.
• 10:03
Speaker 1: Thank you. I would like to mark as minority Exhibit A.
• 10:07
Speaker 1: This is an email from Maxwell to WJC email that
• 10:10
Speaker 1: we discussed in the previous hour. It's dated February sixth,
• 10:13
Speaker 1: two thousand and two. I'll give you a moment to
• 10:15
Speaker 1: read through that. And I believe in the Majority's hour
• 10:19
Speaker 1: they established that WJC email was you at the time?
• 10:22
Speaker 1: Is that correct? Answer? As far as I can recall, Yes.
• 10:26
Speaker 1: Question do you remember receiving this email from Glenn Maxwell? Answer?
• 10:30
Speaker 1: I do not. Question do you recall a party in
• 10:33
  Speaker 1: Miami that she's referring to? Answer I don't recall a
• 10:36
Speaker 1: party in Miami that she's referring to. Question, So you
• 10:39
Speaker 1: never went to a party in Miami with Glenn Maxwell? Answer?
• 10:43
Speaker 1: I didn't say that I never went to the party.
• 10:45
Speaker 1: I just said I don't recall, for dak did did
• 10:47
Speaker 1: go to a party in Miami with Glenn Maxwell? And
• 10:50
  Speaker 1: as I said, I don't recall going to a party
• 10:53
  Speaker 1: in Miami. It doesn't mean I didn't go. It doesn't
• 10:57
Speaker 1: mean I did go. I just don't remember it. No
• 11:00
Speaker 1: recollection of going to a party. What about President Clinton?
• 11:03
Speaker 1: Do you ever recall him going to a party in
• 11:04
Speaker 1: Miami with Glenn Maxwell? Answer? I do not question. Okay,
• 11:11
Speaker 1: And then later in the email, she talks about Epstein.
• 11:13
Speaker 1: She says, Jaye coming to pick us up on the plane.
• 11:16
Speaker 1: Do you recall anything about this being picked up on
• 11:18
Speaker 1: a plane by in Miami by Epstein? Answer? I do
• 11:21
Speaker 1: not recall that. No. All right, folks, we're gonna wrap
• 11:23
Speaker 1: up right here, and in the next episode dealing with
• 11:26
Speaker 1: the topic, we're gonna pick up where we left off.
• 11:28
Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be
• 11:31
Speaker 1: found in the description box.
