Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day According to the Roman Missal before 1955. The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost, July 12 in the year of our Lord 2026.
• 0:21
A note from Dom Gaspar Lefevre. The ark of the covenant carried by the Israelites on the battlefields had given them victory. And while with cries of joy, they brought it back to the Mount Of Zion, they exhorted in the words of Psalm 46, all nations to come and praise their God as mentioned in the introit.
• 0:49
In this ascent, the father see a figure of the ascension of Jesus after his victory over the devil in the world. God through his Christ who is wisdom thus attracts all souls for his providence is unerring in the ordering of his divine plans says the collect. Wherefore the sacred number of seven, which designates this Sunday, designates the same wisdom given to Solomon after he had offered the sacrifice mentioned by Daniel in the offertory. And as fear is the beginning of wisdom, David says in the gradual, I shall teach you the fear of the Lord. Divine life shows itself in acts.
• 1:49
Saint Augustine explaining the introit says that the hand and the tongue must agree. The one glorifying God and the other acting. And the gospel declares that it is not those who say, Lord, Lord, who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but those who do the will of the father. A tree is judged by its fruit. If good species give grapes and figs, there are also thorns and brambles on which none are gathered, says the epistle.
• 2:26
Therefore, the gospel says, they shall be cut down and thrown into the fire. What fruit, adds the apostle in the epistle, have you gathered from sin except shame and eternal death? Whilst by serving God, you produce fruits of holiness and win eternal life. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
• 3:06
The introit. Clap your hands all ye nations. Shout unto God with the voice of joy for the Lord is high. He is terrible. A great king over all the earth.
• 3:23
Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Clap your hands all ye nations. Shout unto God with the voice of joy. The Collect, let us pray.
• 3:51
O God, whose providence faileth not in its designs, we humbly entreat thee, put from us all that might be harmful, and give us all that will be profitable. A commemoration of Saint John Gwalbert. Oh God, who gladden us with the annual feast of blessed John, your confessor, mercifully grant that while honoring the anniversary of his death, we may also imitate his deeds. A commemoration of Saints Naboor and Felix. Grant we beseech you, O Lord, that as we never fail to celebrate the anniversary of the death of your holy martyrs, Naboor and Felix, so may we always be accompanied by their prayers.
• 4:47
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Romans. Brethren, I am speaking in the language of common life because nature is still strong in you. Just as you once made over your natural powers as slaves to impurity and wickedness till all was wickedness, you must now make over your natural powers as slaves to right doing till all is sanctified.
• 5:38
At the time when you were the slaves of sin, right doing had no claim upon you. And what harvest were you then reaping from acts which now make you blush? Their reward is death. Now that you are free from the claims of sin and have become God's slaves instead, You have a harvest in your sanctification and your reward is eternal life. Sin offers death for wages.
• 6:17
God offers us eternal life as a free gift through Christ Jesus, our Lord. The gradual. Come children, hearken to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Come to him and be enlightened, and your faces shall not be confounded.
• 6:44
Alleluia. Alleluia. Oh, clap your hands all ye nations. Shout unto God with the voice of joy. Alleluia.
• 6:59
A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, beware of false prophets who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly, they are ravening wolves. By their fruits, you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles? Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
• 7:38
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit shall be cut down and shall be cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. Not everyone that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. But he that does the will of my father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
• 8:28
The offertory. Let this sacrifice of ours be so made before thee this day as to be acceptable in thy sight no less than a burnt sacrifice of rams and bullocks, no less than thousands of fattened lambs. Surely, those who trust in thee, oh lord, can never be disappointed. The secret. Oh god, who has justified the variety of sacrifices of the law by the perfection of this one sacrifice, except the sacrifice of thy servants who are dedicated to thee and sanctified with a blessing like to that which thou didst bestow upon the gifts of Abel that what each one of us has offered to the honor of thy majesty may profit us all unto salvation.
• 9:33
A commemoration of Saint John Walbert. We offer you sacrifices of praise, oh Lord, in memory of your saints, trusting that by them, we may be delivered from both present and future evils. A commemoration of saints Naboor and Felix. May the gifts of your people, we beseech you, O Lord, by the prayers of your holy martyrs, Naboor and Felix, be made pleasing to you. And may they be made worthy by the merits of those in honor of whose victories they are offered to your name through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages.
• 10:28
Amen. The preface of the most holy trinity. Just it is and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, oh, holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, who together with thine only begotten son and the holy ghost art one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person, but in the trinity of one substance. For what we believe by the revelation of thy glory, the same do we believe of thy son, the same of the Holy Ghost without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and eternal Godhead distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored.
• 11:31
In praise of which the angels and archangels, the cherubim also and Seraphim day by day exalt without end with one voice saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
• 12:11
Bow down thine ear. Make haste to deliver me. The post communion. May thy healing work, O Lord, both mercifully free us from all our waywardness and lead us to all that is right. A commemoration of Saint John Gwalbert, Refreshed with heavenly food and drink, we humbly pray you our God, that we also may be helped by his prayers in memory of whom we have partaken of these gifts.
• 12:55
You support. Thank you by the gift of the sacrament, we may enjoy forever the good things with which through your grace we are now comforted through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
• 13:43
Saint John Gwalbert, pray for us. Saint Nabor, pray for us. Saint Felix, pray for us.
