- 0:00Speaker 1: Moving down to Catherine right now. And while the residents
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Catherine have been raising serious concerns about crime, there's
- 0:06Speaker 1: a group of locals who've shown well, true local spirit
- 0:10Speaker 1: is unbreakable with long time territory and Trent with joining
- 0:14Speaker 1: forces with other locals to assist some of the victims
- 0:17Speaker 1: of crime. Now he joins me on the line right now,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Trent.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Morning Katie.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Mate. Tell me a little bit about what you guys
- 0:26Speaker 1: are doing to assist some of the victims of crime
- 0:28Speaker 1: in the community.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So we just wanted to, I suppose, be a
- 0:34Speaker 2: bit of a catalyst to get that community spirit in Catherine,
- 0:38Speaker 2: which is alive and strong, but just get it pumping
- 0:41Speaker 2: a little bit more. And we came up with a
- 0:43Speaker 2: plan to have a trailer that's kitted out with everything
- 0:47Speaker 2: sort of you may need late at night to repair
- 0:51Speaker 2: a business or a residential property, doesn't matter commercial or residential.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And basically, if the person who's been broken into has
- 1:00Speaker 2: reported it to please and they have a promise number,
- 1:02Speaker 2: well we'll come along and we'll patch it up best
- 1:05Speaker 2: wekend to make it safe until a professional can come
- 1:07Speaker 2: through and sort it out the next day and it's
- 1:10Speaker 2: all free of charge, and it's all run by volunteers.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Ah, you legend how many of you guys.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Are doing this well, O, Katie, there's quite a few
- 1:20Speaker 2: that don't know they're doing it.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yes, would you like to.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Name them now?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Want to let them know.
- 1:27Speaker 2: There's a few of them that are there's a few
- 1:29Speaker 2: of them that are going to get surprised attacked unfortunately.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But no, Look, there's quite a good support group behind us,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you know. The I suppose the overall thing has just
- 1:40Speaker 2: been overwhelming, the support for it and that people putting
- 1:45Speaker 2: their hands up to want to do it. So it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: been really really good. And we're definitely not going to
- 1:49Speaker 2: be sure of any volunteers, that's for sure.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Oh, this is so great, and you know, it's unfortunate
- 1:55Speaker 1: that you've got to do something like this due to crime.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But the thing that I always love is it when
- 2:00Speaker 1: terrible things do happen around the place, that real territory
- 2:04Speaker 1: spirit always shines through. And this is such a wonderful
- 2:07Speaker 1: example of it. And I'm not surprised, mate, that you're
- 2:09Speaker 1: the person behind it. In Catherine Trent, how have things
- 2:17Speaker 1: been going like when you talk about some of the
- 2:18Speaker 1: issues with crime over the recent recent week or so
- 2:22Speaker 1: oh look.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Where you know, we're not immune to what is happening
- 2:26Speaker 2: to the entirety of Australia at the moment. You know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: we're constantly you know, social media doesn't help because it
- 2:32Speaker 2: just makes it at your fingertips and and you know,
- 2:35Speaker 2: back in the day, I suppose you didn't know what
- 2:37Speaker 2: was really going on until you read the local paper.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But at the moment, you know, we have a minute
- 2:41Speaker 2: by minute update of what's going on around the town.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And look, it does paint a pretty bleak picture, but yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 2: I mean I just try to focus on the positive,
- 2:50Speaker 2: you know, and as bad as it is at the moment,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I really want this to be a catalyst to get
- 2:55Speaker 2: the town back together and to stand together. And when
- 2:58Speaker 2: we do have issues, you know, if you see someone littering,
- 3:01Speaker 2: if you see some kids running the muck and woollies,
- 3:03Speaker 2: and even if you don't know the person beside you
- 3:05Speaker 2: sort of just grab them and walk over and say, hey,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, we don't accept the behavior that you're doing here.
- 3:12Speaker 2: So yeah, that's the idea behind it, just to try
- 3:14Speaker 2: and move forward in a different direction, you know, because
- 3:16Speaker 2: we focus on the negative a hell of a lot,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and we can continue to beat the drum of we
- 3:22Speaker 2: need someone to fix this. Yeah, but at the same time,
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know there are people who are vulnerable and do
- 3:26Speaker 2: need it late at night.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon, this is so so nice. It's such
- 3:31Speaker 1: a great thing to do. And I know that, Like
- 3:33Speaker 1: even yesterday we had Shelley lay from Zicola IgA on.
- 3:37Speaker 1: She was telling us about their community safety meeting that
- 3:41Speaker 1: they were having last night. I can see that the
- 3:43Speaker 1: community is sort of rising up and trying to help
- 3:45Speaker 1: each other out, which I reckon is wonderful to say.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And that's what the territory is all about, isn't it, Katie.
- 3:52Speaker 2: There's no better metaphor for that than the NT. So
- 3:54Speaker 2: we really need to come together and do everything we can.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You know, we've obviously had our fair share of smash
- 4:00Speaker 2: windows and broken glass and whatnot. And to get a
- 4:04Speaker 2: phone call, you know, my brother would always just ring
- 4:06Speaker 2: and go right, I'm on the way, what do you
- 4:08Speaker 2: need And to get that phone call to go right, well,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I'm going to be able to put a board up.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Someone's coming to do it, and it just you know,
- 4:15Speaker 2: let you go home and have a bit of a
- 4:17Speaker 2: rest and come back to it, you know, with a
- 4:19Speaker 2: fresh face, because otherwise you've got to sit here all night, yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: and worry whether or not someone's coming back. So just
- 4:24Speaker 2: to have that peace of mind is what we want
- 4:27Speaker 2: to pass on to other people who have just been
- 4:29Speaker 2: through a really crap thing. There's nothing worse than getting
- 4:31Speaker 2: your own private space violated. And so to have someone
- 4:36Speaker 2: sort of come pat you on the shoulder and so
- 4:37Speaker 2: it's all good. We'll board this up and yeah, move on.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Trent deb from Pinelands is called to say that when
- 4:44Speaker 1: your trailer, well when if you would like, once it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: painted and ready to go, she'll sign right it for
- 4:51Speaker 1: free for you if you'd like.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Oh that's magic. Yeah, thanks, thanks so much, dev And
- 4:56Speaker 2: that that's the thing about the spirit, you know, Like
- 4:59Speaker 2: I put a video Katie on ten o'clock, I reckon
- 5:02Speaker 2: it went up Saturday. By two o'clock Saturday afternoon. We
- 5:06Speaker 2: had a trailer and we had every single piece of
- 5:08Speaker 2: equipment you could imagine to get this thing off the ground,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and it was all donated, you know, And that's a
- 5:14Speaker 2: good thing about it. People just need something to rally
- 5:17Speaker 2: behind and hoping, you know, we'll give them some purpose,
- 5:20Speaker 2: some direction, and be the catalyst to get other people
- 5:23Speaker 2: to stand up and do a few of these things
- 5:24Speaker 2: that we can shed some positive light on this as
- 5:28Speaker 2: negative as it all is, you know, we need to
- 5:30Speaker 2: focus on some positives.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Oh that's magic, mate. I think it's a wonderful thing
- 5:34Speaker 1: to do. Now. Is there anything else you need in
- 5:36Speaker 1: terms of supplies or anything like that.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Honestly, we are set, Thank you very much, Katie. We
- 5:43Speaker 2: will put the call out in a few days. We're
- 5:46Speaker 2: going to have just at our local hardware store here
- 5:49Speaker 2: might of ten. We're going to have like a bit
- 5:51Speaker 2: of a registered list where, you know, because people want
- 5:54Speaker 2: to contribute, but they can't contribute much, you know, So
- 5:57Speaker 2: we're going to have a bit of a list of
- 5:59Speaker 2: tools and items that we need and they're going to
- 6:01Speaker 2: be able to go in there, check the list and
- 6:02Speaker 2: purchase what they want to contribute or put some money
- 6:06Speaker 2: towards an item on that list. So yeah, we're looking
- 6:08Speaker 2: forward to doing that. And the trailer needs a bit
- 6:11Speaker 2: of TLC. I picked it up from the people who
- 6:14Speaker 2: donated it, and I reckon. I made about fifteen k's
- 6:17Speaker 2: down the road before the tire overtook me. On the
- 6:19Speaker 2: highway and so I had to call in a bit
- 6:23Speaker 2: of help to get that bad boy back to a
- 6:25Speaker 2: safe place. But yeah, no, look, we'll get this thing
- 6:27Speaker 2: up and run and it's going to be awesome. Yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 2: looking forward to it now.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Before I let you go, how's the weathering, Catherine at
- 6:34Speaker 1: the moment, And how's the river going?
- 6:37Speaker 2: No, we're pretty excited because, I mean, this web season
- 6:39Speaker 2: is finally kicked into a bloody decent gear. The river's
- 6:43Speaker 2: just cracked fourteen meters with predictions to sort of get
- 6:46Speaker 2: somewhere between fifteen and sixteen. And that's all dependent on
- 6:51Speaker 2: what rain we get to night up in the gorge
- 6:53Speaker 2: as well, because it may keep rising. But it's pretty
- 6:55Speaker 2: phenomenal to drive over that Casson River Bridge, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 2: to see that thing normally on zero the moment it's
- 7:00Speaker 2: lapping fourteen meters high. It's definitely very impressive and very
- 7:05Speaker 2: good news for everyone. Farmers, fishes, cattle, grazers. You know,
- 7:09Speaker 2: it's just the lifeblood and we've been hanging for it,
- 7:12Speaker 2: so it's awesome to see it.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, mate, before I let you go, last time
- 7:15Speaker 1: we caught up, we spoke about your swimming challenge. Aiming
- 7:18Speaker 1: to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation. How's it going.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Well, we are third overall in Australia for donations. That's awesome,
- 7:26Speaker 2: which is absolutely awesome. So yeah, I think we're up
- 7:29Speaker 2: about sixteen grand from a five thousand dollars target. We've
- 7:34Speaker 2: done bloody awesome. I've knocked out my sixteen kilometers, so
- 7:38Speaker 2: that's my swimming side's done. We just need to keep
- 7:41Speaker 2: the sponsorship going and if anyone does want to contribute,
- 7:44Speaker 2: from today at ten thirty am, they are doubling the donation.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So if you give fifty bucks, they're going to donate
- 7:51Speaker 2: another fifty bucks on top. So anonymous donors given one
- 7:54Speaker 2: hundred and forty thousand dollars, so they're going to double
- 7:58Speaker 2: every single donation from ten thirty two. So if you
- 8:00Speaker 2: want to try and get a territory and to win
- 8:03Speaker 2: this donation competition, which shouldn't be a competition, but we're
- 8:06Speaker 2: can turn it in.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We can make everything a competition.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Make a donation on there for me today, guys, if
- 8:13Speaker 2: you don't mind, because it will double it and then
- 8:14Speaker 2: it'll be awesome.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Oh, you're a legend. Tell us where people can go
- 8:18Speaker 1: very quickly. If they do want to donate, yea.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So just google Starlight superswim dot org and then go
- 8:25Speaker 2: on there search my name Trent Dwiz and you'll quite
- 8:28Speaker 2: easily find a spot there where you can chuck a
- 8:29Speaker 2: donation in and anything is greatly appreciated and it goes
- 8:32Speaker 2: to such a good cause.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Trent, you are a territory legend. Mate. It is always
- 8:37Speaker 1: good to catch up with you. Thanks so much for
- 8:39Speaker 1: your time this morning.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, you
