- 0:25Now, here's Pastor Ed to take us into our study.
- 0:30Amen. Open your Bibles, Genesis
- 0:33chapter 27. We're going to finish the
- 0:36chapter today in our verse by verse study, through the Book of
- 0:40Genesis and the title of our message is God's will must be
- 0:45done. God's way God's will must be
- 0:49done. God's way we covered the first
- 0:53half of chapter 27. Last time we learned it's
- 0:56another one of those unfortunate chapters in the Bible.
- 1:00Fortunate snapshots in a family. A sad chapter among many
- 1:05blessings of God. We learned that sad chapters.
- 1:09If we looked at our lives in a similar way like a books add
- 1:12chapters common go. I was talking to a brother not
- 1:16too long ago. Reminding him that the
- 1:18difficulty that he's in right now.
- 1:20I said, you know, these things they pass and so endure it face
- 1:25it, but these things pass and it may not feel like that right
- 1:29now. But Aang's past, and we grow
- 1:31through them. And God, he reveals the whole
- 1:34story to us. He doesn't hide these episodes.
- 1:37He lets us see that the people that he uses are imperfect
- 1:43sinful, And I shared last time that it's one of the reasons why
- 1:48I believe in the inspiration of the scriptures.
- 1:50If we were writing, the Bible of we were writing these stories.
- 1:54We'd leave out all the bad stuff and we'd want to make ourselves
- 1:58look well. But God doesn't do that.
- 1:59He gives us everything the good, the bad, the ugly that he might
- 2:03get the glory for the great things he has done.
- 2:05But there's another reason why these true stories in all their
- 2:10difficulty are recorded in the scriptures.
- 2:13Just jot it down, I'll read it to you and Corinthians chapter
- 2:1610 in verse 11, the Bible says this now, all these things
- 2:22happened to them as examples and they were written for our
- 2:27admonition, in the NLT. It says to warn us.
- 2:32Why are we reading Genesis chapter 27?
- 2:34It's a warning, and it's a very strong warning.
- 2:38It's a warning. Not to be manipulative, it's a
- 2:41warning, not to be deceitful, it's a warning, not to play
- 2:44favorites in your Home. It's a warning not to be a liar.
- 2:47There is all sorts of warnings in this chapter.
- 2:51It's recorded for us to see the effects.
- 2:54Sometimes you just don't believe what the pastor says.
- 2:57You just don't believe what Mom and Dad are trying to tell you.
- 2:59You just don't believe what a friend's council is basically,
- 3:03the council sounds like this. Don't do it, you'll regret it.
- 3:07Oh no, I've got a special anointing, I've got a special
- 3:10reason, I've got a special, it might be bad for you and might
- 3:13be bad for them but it won't be bad.
- 3:15For me, but the Bible is very clear that the wages of sin is
- 3:19always death, always nobody here gets around that.
- 3:26These stories are revealing to us the warnings that God has for
- 3:31us. Through example, another passage
- 3:35in Romans chapter 15 and verse 4 says, for whatever things were
- 3:39written before were written for our learning.
- 3:42So you got warnings and learning so that we through the patience
- 3:48and the comfort of the scriptures might have hope
- 3:53Studying through the Old Testament, you may stop.
- 3:56And think, what in the world are we doing in the Old Testament?
- 3:59Why are we reading the Old Testament?
- 4:01Some Churches even take the position.
- 4:03Where New Covenant Believers, the Old Testament is not
- 4:06relevant anymore. That's not true.
- 4:08We don't take that position. But when you're reading through
- 4:10the Old Testament, may be reading through the Bible and
- 4:13you're going through Genesis, you can understand it.
- 4:15Leviticus. You can our Genesis Exodus, you
- 4:18can understand it. Leviticus.
- 4:20You start to wonder. What value is this?
- 4:23And why would God have this in your?
- 4:25And how can I learn from this book of the Bible or this
- 4:28chapter, or this true story here in the 21st century?
- 4:33Why are we studying a book? That's thousands of years old,
- 4:37how irrelevant something? The Bible can be, especially the
- 4:41Old Testament, how boring look, you don't understand something.
- 4:45You understand this very clearly I want you to know this for the
- 4:48rest of your life. The Bible might be a lot of He's
- 4:51but one thing, it's not it's not boring.
- 4:54This is not a boring book and forgive us pastors.
- 4:58If we have ever made the Bible boring for you because we have
- 5:01met were misrepresented, the very love letter of God to your
- 5:05heart, the Bible is not boring. Now you might be boring, the
- 5:09Bible is not boring, or you might be on his interested, or
- 5:13you may not want to listen, or I might fight some of the truths,
- 5:17but the Bible is not boring. Every the Bible says, Jesus
- 5:21would even quote this from Deuteronomy chapter, 8 man
- 5:24should live by every word. That proceeds from the mouth of
- 5:28God, every word, don't avoid the Bible or minimize the Old
- 5:34Testament, it's valuable, it's practical.
- 5:37And when you think about it, we're studying the life of the
- 5:40early church on our weekend Services were looking at the
- 5:43beginnings of life in Genesis. The beginning of everything, in
- 5:47the book of Acts were learning about the beginning of the
- 5:49Church. What God's will is for the
- 5:51church in the early church, you can see that they continued
- 5:54steadfastly in the apostles Doctrine and fellowship.
- 5:57The breaking of bread and prayer.
- 5:59You can see, they make great progress.
- 6:01Cities were transformed lives, were transformed leaders at the
- 6:05time when they would show up to a city, would look at them ago,
- 6:07we looked of the Apostles. The Believers, those that are
- 6:10turning the world upside down have come here to.
- 6:13They were angry with the followers of Jesus, as much as
- 6:16they were angry at Jesus himself.
- 6:19And how did they become so strong?
- 6:22Well of course we know in the book of Acts and chapter in the
- 6:26early chapters they receive what the baptism of the Holy Spirit
- 6:30they became Witnesses through the power of the Holy Spirit,
- 6:33they received the power from on high to be the witnesses that
- 6:38God has called them to be and the main tool that they used was
- 6:43the scriptures. Now what scriptures were they?
- 6:47It wasn't the New Testament. In the beginning of the book of
- 6:50Acts and New Testament did not exist.
- 6:52It was still being lived out real time.
- 6:57What were the scriptures that strengthen?
- 6:59Their early Believers? The Old Testament?
- 7:04The Holy Spirit, use the Old Testament in the Fulfillment of
- 7:08Messiah, and it made them strong men and women.
- 7:13One of the commitments that I've made to you as a pastor and as a
- 7:18leader of this church is to feed.
- 7:20You spiritually to nourish you in the word of God, week after
- 7:26week, month after month year after year.
- 7:30And what I mean by that is my plan is is eventually one day.
- 7:34I hope to teach you through the whole Bible verse by verse
- 7:41chapter, by chapter book by book.
- 7:43So One day, I will be able to say, like, Paul did to the
- 7:47elders and in the book of Acts and Ephesus that I have not
- 7:51shunned to declare to you. The whole counsel got, I can
- 7:54say, like, he did. I'm innocent of all men's blood
- 7:57so far. I've made it through in 23
- 8:00years, the New Testament. And I was some of the Old
- 8:04Testament. Maybe a third, maybe a, I don't
- 8:06know, we haven't looked yet. I didn't count the books, but a
- 8:09lot of the Old Testament, as well.
- 8:12But my goal is not just to do that to do that.
- 8:14I want to do it be led by the holy spirit.
- 8:16So the time he's not my business, I'm going to go
- 8:18through and some books. We've had to repeat over the
- 8:20years because God has been doing different things and we need to
- 8:23be reminded, that's my commitments, how I was
- 8:25discipled, that's what I grew under and that's what I have.
- 8:29The privilege of bringing to you, to teach you the Bible, and
- 8:32teach you, what it means, and teach you how to live it.
- 8:34The early church was students of the Old Testament.
- 8:38These things are here for our strength and our growing.
- 8:43I do want you to hold it. We will get to Genesis 27 but I
- 8:46need to build this for you. So why we split it up into two
- 8:49weeks? Go over to Second Timothy real
- 8:50quick here. Just to you see the reminder in
- 8:55the New Covenant, in the New Testament, what Paul wrote to
- 8:58Young Timothy about the power of the scriptures.
- 9:01Second Timothy chapter 3, when you get there I'll draw your
- 9:05attention to verse 14, second, Timothy 3, Verse 14.
- 9:11Says but as for you Timothy continue in the things which you
- 9:15have learned and being assured of knowing from whom you've
- 9:19learned them that from childhood you have known the holy
- 9:23scriptures parents. It's important to read the Bible
- 9:26to your kids even beginning in the womb that they might know
- 9:30the word of God and hear your voice.
- 9:33Reading to them the scriptures. That's what happened in
- 9:35Timothy's life. How did Timothy become Timothy?
- 9:38A lot of different things in his life, but I'll tell you one that
- 9:41we learn right here, his mom and his grandma studied the Bible
- 9:46with this kid and discipled him in the word.
- 9:50So he says here you've known the holy scriptures and notice what
- 9:55the holy scriptures do they are able to make you wise for
- 10:00salvation through faith, which is in Christ?
- 10:03Jesus, all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is
- 10:08profitable. Notice the four things that the
- 10:10Bible is profitable for number 14, Doctrine, Doctrine, teaches
- 10:15us, the truth about God. The Bible's profitable, you want
- 10:18to know about God. You need to know the Bible.
- 10:21Secondly. Not only for Doctrine, but for
- 10:23reproof reproof is teaching us what's wrong?
- 10:28The Bible teaches to what the truth about God.
- 10:31Then the Bible teaches us what's wrong about us.
- 10:35And in our lives, what needs Improvement, thirdly the Bible
- 10:38teaches us correction its profitable for correction.
- 10:42This is teaching. God is so gracious to us.
- 10:45He doesn't just point out all the problems with us all the
- 10:47difficulties. But the third thing, he does, he
- 10:49teaches us how to take the wrong things and make them, right?
- 10:53That's what correction is. I know, Corrections not very
- 10:56popular among us because we get Very defensive, we're all puffed
- 11:00up with pride, but you and I need to be corrected continually
- 11:05in learning how to grow in. God's grace, the Bible will do
- 11:07that. Not only that number for the
- 11:09last thing is instruction in righteousness.
- 11:14So doctrines teaching us. What's right?
- 11:17Reprove is teaching us what's wrong Corrections teaching us,
- 11:20how to fix what's wrong and instruction and righteousness is
- 11:23teaching us how to stay, right? And the Bible covers everything
- 11:27about your life. Life.
- 11:29So in verse 17 that the man of God the woman of God may be
- 11:33complete thoroughly equipped for every good work.
- 11:38So please please, please be careful with your Bibles.
- 11:43Be careful with your Bibles. Don't let anyone take it away
- 11:46from you? Don't let anyone discourage you
- 11:49from using it from reading it. Don't let the church that you
- 11:53attend. Just make minimize it.
- 11:55Like it's not important and you don't need a Bible.
- 11:58I'm here to tell you, you I need a Bible even if you're in a
- 12:01church right now that tells you you don't go buy one, you need a
- 12:03Bible, you need a Bible for when you're not in that building for
- 12:08an hour you need a Bible for the other 23 hours and the our
- 12:11you're in there you need the word of God.
- 12:14You need to read it. You need to listen to it.
- 12:16You need to study it and you know what else?
- 12:19You need to do it. The Bible is profitable for you
- 12:23super important in your life. God's word is truly effective
- 12:27and Powerful. I look around as we've been
- 12:31going through the servants class that we've been reminded in
- 12:34First Corinthians that God has chosen the foolish things of the
- 12:37world to confound the wise. And I look around and I see the
- 12:41progress and I see the change and I see what God has done
- 12:46Among Us. I see it individually in many of
- 12:48your lives. I see it in a broader sense over
- 12:51the larger life of our church. I see it with the City of
- 12:56churches in our community. They're following after the
- 12:59Lord. And I looked particularly here
- 13:01among us and it leaves you in awe, of the faithfulness of God,
- 13:07he keeps his word and his word is profitable for you.
- 13:11If you will read it and do it, your life will change very, very
- 13:15quickly. I look around as we learning
- 13:19God's word Watching God. Do the work as we're reading as
- 13:23we're studying, as we're taking heed to it.
- 13:26God's word will accomplish his work.
- 13:29My warning to you. My encouragement to you, is to
- 13:32stick with it, there's nothing else.
- 13:35I know you're look, you might be looking for something else
- 13:38today. On the radio program someone
- 13:40called in today to or actually they texted in about the new
- 13:43popularity of Deliverance Ministries, Deliverance
- 13:46Ministries. Look Read your Bible.
- 13:49Don't worry about chasing after all kinds of new Ministries and
- 13:52Butt-head. You don't understand.
- 13:53The Bible is boring. It's not and because you think
- 13:57that you open yourself up to all kinds of weird stuff.
- 14:00Now you need some special Ministry and you need some
- 14:03special. I know what my problem is, I
- 14:05just got a demon. If you are a believer in Christ,
- 14:08you've got no demon inside of you.
- 14:10The Holy Spirit, dwells inside of you, he is come to
- 14:14permanently dwell in you and Empower you who is convinced.
- 14:18That it's a demon. Possessing you a demon doesn't
- 14:21possess you. False teaching, possesses you
- 14:25You don't need some Deliverance Ministry or watch some.
- 14:28Well, you know, there's a new movie out there.
- 14:30Why did you go there? It's all bunk.
- 14:34That was an old 80s term if you remember.
- 14:36But you use whatever you want to use today, it's not true.
- 14:42Just give me the Bible. What do you have to say?
- 14:45To me, God I'm struggling right now. 99 times out of ten.
- 14:50I'm not saying the Demonic realm.
- 14:52Spiritual warfare doesn't oppress.
- 14:53You doesn't stress. You out doesn't come against
- 14:56you, doesn't you circumstances to distract you to try to get
- 15:00you to believe a lie? The Demonic Realms?
- 15:02Real don't misunderstand me. But the idea that you can blame
- 15:06everything on the demon is not true.
- 15:08It's your flesh. So just repent.
- 15:12It's amazing. What repentance and forsaking
- 15:14sin will do in your life? Where do you learn that in the
- 15:16Bible? Not some Pastor In a Pulpit.
- 15:19The Bible says that to a church. No less Jesus himself.
- 15:25Who is very careful with his words to the church in Ephesus?
- 15:30He said remember from where you have fallen repent and repeat
- 15:36the first Works. He said that to a church.
- 15:40He didn't say, I'm sending a Deliverance Ministry, hang on,
- 15:43we'll be right there. He said, look, you know, the
- 15:47biggest problem in your life, as you've walked away from me.
- 15:49As you've left, your first love is need to.
- 15:51Remember, remember when we were close and intimate when you were
- 15:56open to me, you were communing with me.
- 15:57You were reading and praying. You were receiving from me and
- 16:00now because you remember now, you know where you are, the next
- 16:03step is, you need to repent, that's a sinful condition for a
- 16:07Believer to be in. And then go back and start over
- 16:10again. Pick up where you left off, go
- 16:13back to that new Believers. The, or that does that time when
- 16:16you were to obey God very, very quickly, and you're not so quick
- 16:19anymore. Now you're thinking about in and
- 16:22checking it out and you're not so sure.
- 16:24And you're asking everybody's opinion, that's not how it was.
- 16:27When you were a new believer, you didn't know anybody to ask.
- 16:30It's just you and Jesus. You're like, okay, okay.
- 16:32You want me? You want me to you?
- 16:34Want me to go apologize to people, I offended.
- 16:37Okay, I can do that. That you don't ask around, who
- 16:40should I apologize? Wuxia.
- 16:42How should I should iyou know? I think in the end you didn't
- 16:45develop this phrase until a little bit later on, but this
- 16:48phrase is often used for delayed obedience.
- 16:51Don't get mad at me. You just admit it, okay?
- 16:53But this phrase is often used for delayed obedience.
- 16:56You know what it is? Well, let me pray about it.
- 17:02there are definitely times to pray, but there are also times a
- 17:04get up These are you serious Pastor?
- 17:08Yeah, that's exactly what God told Joshua.
- 17:11He told Joshua enough get up their sin in the camp.
- 17:16You go take care of it. There's no you don't need to
- 17:18pray anymore. This you know what's wrong?
- 17:21And God began to reveal to him. the Bible is powerful church
- 17:26when you read and study the scriptures, whether it's the old
- 17:29or the New Testament, Look at the examples.
- 17:34Look for the examples and the lessons that God wants to warn
- 17:38us with or teach us pause telling us not to miss out and
- 17:42gloss over them. Like they don't matter.
- 17:44It's been said that experience is the best teacher.
- 17:48It's true but listen, it doesn't have to be your own personal
- 17:51experience. It could be somebody else's that
- 17:54you can learn from. So I was raising my kids.
- 17:57I would share with them, you don't, you don't part of my
- 18:01parenting and sometimes I went a little overboard trying.
- 18:04Two. Trying to help my kids avoid all
- 18:07the sin, but my I was super concerned about my kids turning
- 18:11out. And following my bad example,
- 18:14which none of them really ever saw in my BC days because by the
- 18:19time, my kids were born, I was saved in my young, my oldest was
- 18:24just coming to make observations of our family when we got saves
- 18:28that, you know, he was what three or four years old when I
- 18:30got saved four and a half. And so I would teach them like
- 18:34man, I don't want you to do this, I don't want you to do
- 18:37this. I want trust me.
- 18:38You don't want to make these decisions.
- 18:40Trust me, you want the benefits of obedience over and over and
- 18:44you know, there could be that, that response.
- 18:46They don't come on dad, come on, come on, dad.
- 18:50But truly my heart. As I know, they'll make their
- 18:52own decisions and I know they will venture out, but my heart
- 18:55will never change. Just trust me.
- 18:59Trust me, son. Trust me daughter, It's A Hard
- 19:03Road. The way the Old King James says,
- 19:06the way of the transgressor is hard and it truly is with that
- 19:14in mind Genesis chapter 27. We have we drop into this family
- 19:20where the transgressions will make life, very hard for them
- 19:24because they attempt to do the right thing.
- 19:29The wrong way. Pick up where we left off in
- 19:32verse 24. Now, then he said, are you
- 19:36really my son? Esau.
- 19:38And he said, I am and he said, bring it near to me and I will
- 19:42eat at my son's game so that my soul may bless you.
- 19:45So he brought it near him and he ate and he brought him wine and
- 19:48he drank, then his father. Isaac said to him come near now
- 19:53and kiss me my son and he came near and kissed him.
- 19:56And he smelled the smell of his clothing and blessed him and
- 19:59said, surely the smell of my son is like the smell of a field,
- 20:03which the Lord has Has blessed. Therefore my God give you of the
- 20:07Dew of Heaven of the fatness of the earth, plenty of grain and
- 20:11wine. Let the people serve you Nations
- 20:14bow down to you be Master over your brethren and let your
- 20:18mothers sons bow down to you. Cursed is everyone who curses
- 20:23you and blessed, be those who bless you, then it happened as
- 20:28soon as Isaac finished blessing. Jacob Jacob had scarcely gone
- 20:32out from the presence of Isaac that Esau, his brother came in
- 20:37from hunting. Isaac pronounces.
- 20:41The blessing upon Him questions. He's uncertain.
- 20:46His eyesight is dimming. He smells he comes near and the
- 20:50blessing was given which leads us to the theological question,
- 20:55was it? The will of God for Jacob to
- 20:58receive the blessing? The answer?
- 21:00Yes. Yes, it was.
- 21:02The will of God, Rebecca knew that Jacob knew that that's not
- 21:07the problem here. The problem of Jacob receiving
- 21:10the blessing is. That's not the problem.
- 21:13That's not the issue. The issue is this.
- 21:16Rebecca went about it the wrong way.
- 21:21She went about it the wrong way, God would have accomplished his
- 21:25will without all of these manipulative deceitful
- 21:30Shenanigans by Rebecca. This is a perfect example of two
- 21:35people who are convinced in the purpose of purposes of God and
- 21:41believe, God will do what he said but are impatient and want
- 21:46to help God out a little bit. They went about doing God's work
- 21:50but not in God's way. Moses did the same thing, Exodus
- 21:54chapter 2 David second, Samuel chapter six.
- 21:58We can think of over and over again examples where you want to
- 22:04do the right thing, but you choose the wrong methodology.
- 22:08Her deception was designed to bring about the purposes and
- 22:11plan of God, but the Bible never sank sins a sin to bring about
- 22:15God's blessings. God never sanctions or approves
- 22:20of sin in Romans chapter 6 and verse 1.
- 22:23Paul said as much inspired by the Holy Spirit, he said, what
- 22:27shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that
- 22:30Grace May abound, certainly not. How shall we who died to sin
- 22:35live any longer in it? You want to know the will of God
- 22:38for your life. There are many parts of the will
- 22:42of God. We may not know exactly but we
- 22:45do know this. It is not okay to send that is
- 22:48not God's will for your life. But you don't understand that if
- 22:51I do this, and I do this, and I do this, and I do this, and I
- 22:53cut this corner, something really, really good will come
- 22:56out of it. God does not sanction sin.
- 23:01You are deceived to think that you can control the outcome of
- 23:06your decisions. You're deceived, you don't know
- 23:10how it's going to turn out. You don't know what is the
- 23:14consequences, maybe? I don't know, but I do know
- 23:17this, if I'm obediently following the Lord, I can trust
- 23:20him with the outcome. I can trust him with the outcome
- 23:24of the decisions, as I seek to follow him.
- 23:27Notice, again, in verse 30, it happened as Isaac receives, the
- 23:31finishes blessing. Jacob, Jacob barely went out,
- 23:35and then it's brother came in verse 31.
- 23:37He also made Savory food and brought it to his father and
- 23:40said to his father. Let my father arise and eat of
- 23:42them. With son's game that your soul.
- 23:44May bless me and his father. Isaac said to him, who are you?
- 23:49You gotta on wonder what that sounded like was a timid that
- 23:53Was he afraid? Like, did he sense who you are?
- 23:56Was he who are you? What are you talking about?
- 23:58Like he's, there's confusion there, sin always brings
- 24:01confusion. He says, I am your son, your
- 24:04firstborn Esau verse 33, then, Isaac trembled exceedingly and
- 24:09said who, where is the one who hunted game and brought it to
- 24:13me? I ate all of it before you came
- 24:17and I have blessed him and indeed he shall be blessed.
- 24:24You get the scene right at that very moment.
- 24:26God arranges a, he's Esau comes in from hunting makes a meal for
- 24:30his dad. There's great fear, Isaac.
- 24:34Realizes he blew it. He's been deceived.
- 24:37Something's Happened. He doesn't quite know.
- 24:39Notice verse 34, when he saw heard the words of his father,
- 24:43he cried with a nice. Exceedingly, great and bitter
- 24:47cry and said to his father bless me.
- 24:51Even me also o my father, but he said your brother came with
- 24:55deceit in his taking your blessing away and he saw said is
- 24:59he not rightly named Jacob which can mean conniver or deceitful
- 25:05or supplanter? He has supplanted me.
- 25:08These two times, he took away my Birthright and now look he's
- 25:12taken away my blessing. He said have you not reserved a
- 25:16blessing for me verse 37, then Isaac answered and said he saw
- 25:21indeed I've made him your master and all his brother and I've
- 25:24given him to you given to his servants with grain and wine are
- 25:27sustained him. What shall I do now for you?
- 25:30My son and he saw said, have you only one blessing?
- 25:33My father bless me even now and he saw lifted up his voice and
- 25:38wept And then, Isaac, his father answered said to him, behold
- 25:43your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth and the Dew
- 25:46of Heaven from above by your sword.
- 25:48You shall live and you shall serve your brother.
- 25:54You know, it shall come to pass when he becomes wrestle you when
- 25:57you become Restless that you shall break his yoke from your
- 26:03neck. Esau, he weeps bitterly begging.
- 26:09His dad bless me. Bless me that his dad.
- 26:12Basically says, you're too late buddy.
- 26:13It's gone. The blessings been given.
- 26:17You see, Esau here we have more insights on who he is.
- 26:20Really the The circumstances in our lives, these difficulties.
- 26:24I wonder who I'm speaking to you today.
- 26:26That's been ripped off. That's been taken advantage of
- 26:31one of the benefits. If you will, you want to call
- 26:33it. That one of the consequences of
- 26:36this situation, it's as revealed your heart.
- 26:40To reveal who you are. You didn't quite know who you
- 26:43were until you experience that. That's where he saw his.
- 26:46You can see his response, he wanted the blessing but he's
- 26:50lost his senses in his anger and rage.
- 26:53You notice in verse 36, he's not thinking straight in verse 36
- 26:57season. He rightly named Jacob for, he
- 26:59has supplanted me. Now, he took away my Birthright.
- 27:03We just studied this church. He didn't take away his
- 27:05Birthright, he saw gave it up for a bowl of stew.
- 27:11That's what'll happen when you're filled with bitterness,
- 27:14when you're allowing anger to control, you will not see
- 27:18reality, you will redefine reality.
- 27:22This is not the true. Jacob didn't steal his
- 27:24Birthright, Esau despised. His Birthright.
- 27:31He despised him. He's described in Hebrews, when
- 27:34we studied Hebrews chapter 12, he talked.
- 27:38He saw his described, he says, Let there not be any fornicator
- 27:41or perform profane person like Esau who for one morsel of food,
- 27:48sold his Birthright. And, you know, that afterward he
- 27:52when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected for.
- 27:57He found. No place for repentance, though.
- 28:00He sought it diligently with tears.
- 28:02We learned something about this. This an emotional response does
- 28:06not necessarily equate to repentance big crocodile tears
- 28:11and emotion, doesn't necessarily mean that you're repentant.
- 28:16It requires as we learned in the the letter to the Corinthians
- 28:20Godly sorrow, not human sorrow. Godly sorrow where you recognize
- 28:27your synagogue is against God, not what you've lost, not the
- 28:32current condition of your It wasn't really the birthright or
- 28:36the blessing that he saw wanted. I mean it wasn't really the the
- 28:40position that God placed him in, he just wanted a blessed life.
- 28:46He wanted a blessed life, the birthright, he didn't want the
- 28:50birthright, he sold that for a bowl of Stew.
- 28:52I want you to equate when you think of Birthright
- 28:55responsibility. Birthright equals
- 28:59responsibility. He didn't want that.
- 29:01He wanted the blessings. You could say it this way.
- 29:05Esau here is an example to avoid a warning for unite now not to
- 29:11want the blessings without the responsibility.
- 29:15Not to want the blessings without the responsibility.
- 29:21I just want bless me. Lord bless me.
- 29:23Lord, bless me. Bless me.
- 29:24Bless me. And there are many.
- 29:27There are many today in the broader Body of Christ that want
- 29:31the blessings, but not the birthright.
- 29:35They want the blessings of God, but they don't want
- 29:36responsibility. They'll take religion, but not
- 29:40responsibility. Take church.
- 29:43I'm not opposed to church. Some would say, as long as it
- 29:47doesn't change my life. I can fit in somewhere.
- 29:51What do you have for me? Pastor, what service is, what
- 29:53night of the week? I can't do this, but I can do
- 29:55that. I can't do that.
- 29:56But you can. And I'm not talking about like,
- 29:58hey, I can't be in Fellowship because I have to work.
- 30:00I mean that you have to provide for the needs of your family but
- 30:03you know, I can't be. That's my golf day.
- 30:05Oh really? You can't change your golf date
- 30:06of being worship and serve the Lord.
- 30:09No, not really because I paid for it in event, you know all
- 30:11the reasons. So you kids, stay home and
- 30:14you're all golfing in the everything is in disarray, why?
- 30:18And I wonder if somebody I could somebody he's golfing right now.
- 30:23It's not in my notes. I just golfing.
- 30:24I don't golf's on my mind. I don't know why.
- 30:27I'm not even a golfer but I wonder it doesn't have to be
- 30:30golfing. You put anything in there?
- 30:32You want the blessings? Not the birthright.
- 30:35You want the benefits but you don't really want to die to
- 30:38yourself. You want to add to your life,
- 30:41you don't want to lose your life.
- 30:44And that's going to cause you great problem.
- 30:48They'll be those that would come into the church, sit down and
- 30:51say, okay pastor. Here's my our you better make it
- 30:55good preacher. And then they'll walk out upset
- 30:59church, then it was boring. So boring, it's so boring.
- 31:02Yeah, maybe it was. But what about you?
- 31:05Where are you in your walk with the Lord?
- 31:09Even in the most boring a Bible studies God has a word for you.
- 31:14Even if this, it's this more and more we we were warned about
- 31:19this years ago. I remember teaching this in the
- 31:21early days of this church, 23 years ago how the church is
- 31:25becoming very consumer. Very consumer is very at the
- 31:28right at the birth of the church growth movement where men came
- 31:31in with their plans and their methods and now they're going to
- 31:34build the church and it created generations of people that now.
- 31:37Look at the church of what do you have for me?
- 31:40What do you have for me? And there is responsibility for
- 31:43the leaders but there's also Also, responsibility for the
- 31:45Believers to buy that nonsense. What do you have for me?
- 31:49When did Christianity ever become?
- 31:50What do you have for me? somewhere along the way, we've
- 31:54lost the self-denial that's required and being effective
- 31:59followers of Christ, Jesus would even say that you are not a
- 32:03follower of him, if you do not deny yourself.
- 32:08That is the pathway. And God is not wanting to
- 32:14develop consumers but commune errs worshipers of God,
- 32:19surrendered, men and women. If you walk out upset of a
- 32:24church, let it be for the conviction of sin in your life.
- 32:28For the revelation of where you are, let it be where you're not
- 32:32happy with, where you are in your walk, and where you are in
- 32:36relation to God, not all these other things.
- 32:39What do you have for me? And you didn't have this and you
- 32:40didn't do that. And it'll get you nowhere.
- 32:43Let it not be the case for us, but rather to yield, you're
- 32:47going to end up being like, Esau here.
- 32:49I want the blessing. I want the blessing, don't you
- 32:50have any blessing? Esau, you've got a heart issue.
- 32:55You've Got Deep problems. This family is in disarray.
- 33:00For a variety of reasons. But that doesn't end with the
- 33:04bitter cry. In verse 34, this exceedingly
- 33:07great and bitter cry. This isn't the kind of crying
- 33:12that is because of pain. It's not the kind of crying
- 33:16because of loss. It is an angry bitter
- 33:20unrepentant, response to his dad here.
- 33:24His dad was deceived. His dad was unable to see, he
- 33:30was deceived. Might I add by the person that
- 33:34he trusted the most, his spouse. And he was deceived by perhaps
- 33:42the second or third person. He trusted the most his son and
- 33:47his other son comes in and gets mad at dad.
- 33:52Gets mad at his brother. I can see that.
- 33:57And it didn't stop there and bitterness won't stop until it.
- 33:59Can totally consumes you look verse 41.
- 34:04So Esau, what does your Bible say?
- 34:07Say it out loud. So Esau hated Jacob.
- 34:10What did Jesus say about hatred? Hatred is just like murder
- 34:14starting to murder him in his heart already.
- 34:18Because of the blessing, which is father of blessed him.
- 34:21He saw said, in his heart, the days of mourning for my father,
- 34:24at hand, and then I'm going to kill my brother, Jacob.
- 34:27I'm gonna spend my days seven days, customary days of
- 34:31mourning, but as soon as I'm done morning, you're a dead man.
- 34:35Jacob. That's what's Happening Here.
- 34:38The wages of sin is death. This is what's happening because
- 34:42of the sin in this family. Jesus said, hatred the beginning
- 34:48of murder. We're learning Genesis chapter
- 34:514, verse 5. It says Cain was very angry.
- 34:55His countenance fell. And what does he end up doing
- 34:58murdering? Is his brother in the words of
- 35:03Esau verse 42? Her older son were told to
- 35:08Rebecca so she sent and called Jacob or younger son and said to
- 35:12him, surely your brother Esau Comforts himself concerning you
- 35:16by intending to kill you now. Therefore my son obey, my voice
- 35:20flee to my brother Laban and haran and stay there with him, a
- 35:24few days until your brother's Fury turns away, until your
- 35:27brother's anger turns away from you and he forgets what you have
- 35:32done to him. As if that's gonna happen, then
- 35:35I will send and bring you from Are why should I be buried also
- 35:38of you both in one day and Rebecca said, Isaac, I'm weary
- 35:42of my life because of the daughters of Hef.
- 35:44If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these
- 35:47who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be
- 35:50to me? Sin has wrecked them all.
- 35:54Jacob can't be at home. Esau has become a murderer.
- 35:57Rebecca's all jacked up and worried and concerned and she is
- 36:01weary. It says we'll get to that in a
- 36:03moment. Esau notice I circled the It's
- 36:06just so they would stick out for me.
- 36:08It says, in verse 34, bitter cry.
- 36:10I have that circled verse 41, hated verse 41, kill verse 44,
- 36:17Fury, verse 45 anger, That's this whole home is in disarray
- 36:24because they tried to do the right thing the wrong way.
- 36:31And it's important. We learn to do the right thing,
- 36:33the right way. Allowing God to lead and guide
- 36:37us. She really believes this is
- 36:40going to cool over for in a few days.
- 36:42Just another sibling, squabbles Between Brothers, but she was
- 36:45wrong by the time. Jacob returns home.
- 36:48His mom will be, Mary will be buried.
- 36:51It's going to be away for a while.
- 36:53The result of her conniving was that she lost both her sons.
- 36:59It didn't work out the way and verse 46.
- 37:02Did you notice the result of her conniving sinful plan was as
- 37:08she's weary. She's weary for a reason.
- 37:12She's concerned about Jacob and who he's going to marry, but
- 37:15she's weary why? Because deceitfulness and
- 37:18Rebellion against God will wear a person out.
- 37:23It will destroy the person on the inside out.
- 37:27That's why you don't see it right away.
- 37:29People are good to put on a face and a smile and everything's
- 37:33good. How you doing, brother?
- 37:34How you doing brother? Oh, hi sister.
- 37:35It's great. Hallelujah.
- 37:37Great song Pastor or whatever the behavior is but inside
- 37:41bitterness is destroying their lives.
- 37:43Little by little, they're weary and tired, not serving the lord.
- 37:48The Bible says, don't grow weary in well-doing.
- 37:50You can be wearied and well doing You can be weary and sin,
- 37:55which will you choose? The Bible says, don't be grow
- 38:00weary in well-doing, because you have a hope there's a future.
- 38:04There is a good into it, but not for Rebecca.
- 38:07She lost both her boys over this.
- 38:09The person who lives in sin, weariness is a part of the
- 38:12package. I mentioned this verse, but let
- 38:14me give you the address and Proverbs 13.
- 38:16Verse 15 says good understanding gains favor, but the way of the
- 38:20Unfaithful is hard and that's where that's the new King James,
- 38:24the Old King James, the way of the transgressor.
- 38:27Now, as we move forward, in Genesis know that Jacob, the
- 38:31conniver he is in for some tough hard times too because he's
- 38:35going to meet a man by the name of Laban and Laban will be a
- 38:40hard man to work for and to live with and he has lessons, you'll
- 38:45meet his match in Good Old Uncle Laban.
- 38:49We can, we can avoid it altogether as we submit
- 38:52ourselves to the Lord and do his word.
- 38:57Allowing him to use us and grow us that we might do the right
- 39:02thing the right way. I was just sharing that with the
- 39:05team today. It's so important past in our
- 39:07pastors meeting as well. It's so important to do the
- 39:11right thing all the time. If you do the right thing all
- 39:16the time, you don't need to worry about the future.
- 39:21God is taking care of it. You don't need to worry about
- 39:23being found out, you don't need to worry about some things,
- 39:28hidden sin being exposed, you don't need to worry about
- 39:32somebody being hurt down the road because you handled it the
- 39:36right way the first time and when you handle it the right way
- 39:40the first time every time, it gives a sense of peace and rest,
- 39:45where you can just trust in the Lord because you don't need to
- 39:47worry about anything. That would come from deceit.
- 39:51Of course, are we perfectly perfect in that know we're human
- 39:55but I'm telling you, you can have a pattern of obedience in
- 39:58your life and you can have a pattern where when I think the
- 40:02saying is, when you tell the truth you don't need a good
- 40:05memory. Well I would say the same thing
- 40:07when you're doing the right thing every day you don't need
- 40:09to worry about the future. Because the truth is the truth
- 40:14and the revelation of the truth will always come out, just give
- 40:18it time. And as you're waiting on the
- 40:21Lord, your strength is renewed. You're not trying to connive and
- 40:25and put on the hairy arms and make somebody smell like the
- 40:28dirt and come on. We're going to make no, we're
- 40:30just like hey I don't know how though.
- 40:32I know what God Said. I know what he wants to do, I
- 40:34know how he flipped the blessings?
- 40:36I don't know how that's all gonna happen, but I know God's
- 40:38word is true. I'm going to trust him.
- 40:41And you just live your life day by day Moment by moment.
- 40:44So, father, I thank you for the word that you have for us for
- 40:51the strength that you impose to us through your word.
- 40:55We're grateful for the warnings. We wouldn't want to see other
- 40:59families heard or, you know, situations like that.
- 41:02That brings us no joy. However God we know that even
- 41:06now in the presence of you and all eternity, you've sorted it
- 41:09all out for them and they're in your presence and there's great
- 41:12joy in your presence of the work that you're accomplishing in
- 41:16them. With this whole family, how you
- 41:20sort it all out in perfect judgment and perfect
- 41:24righteousness. But today, we're here God and we
- 41:27recognize our great need for you.
- 41:30We recognize that there are some that need to remember from where
- 41:33they have fallen and to repent to do.
- 41:36The first works not just in some big sin.
- 41:39Like some big dramatic thing but every little day we don't want
- 41:45to leave our first love God. We don't want to be caught up in
- 41:48the things of this world or the cares and concerns that might
- 41:51take us away. But rather, God, we want to
- 41:54press in. And to be built up in you.
- 41:58May you have your way with us tonight and maybe today you're
- 42:01just hearing your, you've got your like and I need to I need
- 42:04to be in a relationship with God.
- 42:08And if you're even thinking that like kind of considering that I
- 42:11would agree with you, Jesus, he came to die for your sins, so
- 42:16that by faith in him, your sins can be forgiven and your life
- 42:21can be forever changed. Do you know?
- 42:23Jesus, he came and he said, unless a man and by extension a
- 42:27woman is born again. He won't see the kingdom of
- 42:29heaven, and I invite you to turn away from your sins today and
- 42:32receive the Forgiveness of your sin to turn your life in a way,
- 42:36where you're now. Presenting yourself to God and
- 42:40denying yourself and choosing to follow him, because that's the
- 42:44simple invitation of Jesus. The simple invitation of Jesus
- 42:47is follow me, and I think over the years, we've complicated, it
- 42:52made it, more than it is Jesus, invites you to follow him.
- 42:55He doesn't say join a church or Get religious try to change all
- 43:01your behavior. He says, you just come to me all
- 43:03you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest
- 43:06the real rest that you're looking for the rest of the
- 43:09Forgiveness of your sins because he says he will give you a rest
- 43:12for your soul. That's that the concern of your
- 43:17soul is your eternity. And so if you're here today and
- 43:21you'd say Ed, I do I want my sins forgiven, would you stand
- 43:24to your feet on want to pray with you?
- 43:26I want to give you the opportunity to turn away from
- 43:31your sins. God bless you guys over here.
- 43:33Who else would say? That's me that this is the
- 43:36moment that God would say bless you, that God would say that.
- 43:41And today I want you to know that there's a Assurance of your
- 43:44salvation You can know that, you know, there's a surance
- 43:50confidence. Is there anyone else you guys
- 43:55online or on the radio right now?
- 43:57Got speaking to your heart drawing you to himself
- 44:01downstairs, perhaps I got just has your attention. the God
- 44:06would Minister to you, courage, you strengthen, you And so, one
- 44:16of the things we started doing you guys, that are standing, as
- 44:18we started just having the pastor's come to you, you're
- 44:21going to see a lot of that as things, there's going to be
- 44:24movement in the room Church where God is moving because a
- 44:27pastor's are mobilizing just like Jesus.
- 44:30Did he just went to those? He went to them.
- 44:33So we're trying something new that we just think God's going
- 44:35to use greatly and that the pastor is going to come to you.
- 44:38So if somebody sends standing next to you sought on purpose,
- 44:43Encourage you and to build you up and to remind you, you're not
- 44:47alone. So pray with me.
- 44:49You can pray, something like this.
- 44:51You could say, God, I come to you tonight and ask for your
- 44:55forgiveness. For the sin, my life.
- 45:03I desire wholeness. And completeness and peace.
- 45:11I believe Jesus, you died for my sins and rose again, the third
- 45:14day. So that I don't have to live.
- 45:25In sinful Behavior, like just feeling stuck all the time.
- 45:32I turn away from my sin and I choose to follow you and father,
- 45:38I just feel that burden and I I feel that burden like people
- 45:41feel stuck in their sin not just stuck in Life or in a
- 45:45relationship or in singleness not that but stuck in their sin.
- 45:51If you're you you that's you right now.
- 45:54I want you to respond. Do you feel stuck in your sin?
- 45:59I want you to respond right now. I want you just to say out loud.
- 46:04I don't want to be stuck. God unstuck me.
- 46:09Release Me. You don't have to live that way.
- 46:14You don't have to be stuck. Jesus Christ has set the
- 46:17captives free. You can live in Freedom where
- 46:21the spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty, there is freedom and
- 46:25it's accessed by faith. Believe God that he is freed.
- 46:28You believe God, that he is healed, you believe God that
- 46:32there is a future and a hope for you.
- 46:35And I just think you know, just saying it out loud.
- 46:38You could say it out loud maybe while we're singing you can say
- 46:41it out loud. How'd you know while I'm
- 46:43talking, it doesn't matter, just say it out loud.
- 46:46Got free me, I by faith. I believe you got.
- 46:50It seems impossible. But what's impossible with man
- 46:53is possible with God? And father, I just pray for a
- 46:59releasing of the power of your spirit among us.
- 47:03We would learn our true identity and you walk in the power and
- 47:08the Privileges that are ours by Birthright.
- 47:12Born-again Birthright. We receive and accept the
- 47:17responsibilities. And also we want to enjoy the
- 47:21blessings of being your daughter and your son.
- 47:25So bless your church tonight. Lord, refresh Us in the spirit
