- 0:05Speaker 1: So this episode is going to have a musical beginning
- 0:08Speaker 1: and Paul is going to freestyle wrap.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I can I just say before that happens, you look
- 0:14Speaker 2: quite disheveled today.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Thanks, What has happened to you over the past twenty
- 0:19Speaker 2: four hours?
- 0:19Speaker 1: I slept with your maid ah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Which one? I was a bloken of female.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The one, the one in the left wing of the house.
- 0:30Speaker 2: She is a lefty as well.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Oh, I thought his name was Stephen Jesus. Let's just
- 0:36Speaker 1: say he really dusted the gobwebs. Have you been.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Just living the dream? I picked you up today from
- 0:47Speaker 2: a house.
- 0:48Speaker 1: In yeah, a Kia, in a Kia. You picked me
- 0:51Speaker 1: up in a keya Nero multi colored. So the interesting
- 0:54Speaker 1: thing is we're going to talk about this car a
- 0:56Speaker 1: bit later on, obviously. But you had the full electric
- 1:00Speaker 1: and I had the we and it was a deliberate move.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We wanted to give you the whole range. I had
- 1:07Speaker 1: the very the most basic you could get, and I
- 1:10Speaker 1: generally would I'm such a bitch like this, I'll turn
- 1:13Speaker 1: my nose up at any any base model. I'm like, no,
- 1:15Speaker 1: thank you, no no. But this she was a basic bitch.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean, the entertainment system was not. There was zero entertainment.
- 1:24Speaker 1: There was barely a system. It was more of a
- 1:26Speaker 1: doss program. It was anyway. We'll talk about that later on,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but thanks for the pickup. We did stop for snacks.
- 1:34Speaker 2: That was.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I've noticed a theme with you and snacks. You kind
- 1:38Speaker 2: of you just don't stop.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's called diabetes.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called not helping your diabetes.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Do you know what this is? I legit. Had a
- 1:50Speaker 1: conversation with my doctor this week. He had the conversation
- 1:53Speaker 1: with me of you need to lose weight. You've put
- 1:56Speaker 1: on twenty plus kilos in three years.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I told him to you change doctors and media
- 2:04Speaker 1: changed doctors. The best one is the best one is
- 2:07Speaker 1: like the Indian doctor is my favorite one because he's like,
- 2:11Speaker 1: according to the what do you call the thing the
- 2:16Speaker 1: cat scan thing of the ultrasound, Yeah, according to the
- 2:18Speaker 1: ultra do you look pregnant? You have a fatty liver.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, is that something I should worry about? No? No, no, no,
- 2:25Speaker 1: Why I have a fatty liver like a wane? Don't
- 2:28Speaker 1: you worry? I think I'm gonna have to go on
- 2:31Speaker 1: some sort of a weight loss journey.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Because I can looking across the table now I can
- 2:36Speaker 2: say that clearly hasn't started with a half et and
- 2:38Speaker 2: bacon roll in a cookie.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You should judge me less. Yeah, what fun cars have
- 2:45Speaker 1: you been looking at this week? I've been looking at
- 2:47Speaker 1: a lot of classic cars. Actually, oh I've been. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I've been a classic car shopping Oh for what? Well,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know, youngs ago we were talking about cars we
- 2:56Speaker 1: wish we'd we'd driven, which is on a wish list,
- 3:00Speaker 1: And one of the cars that I brought up was
- 3:02Speaker 1: a Toyota Century. Oh yes, I be twelve. Yeah right,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and there's a couple out on the market moment, and
- 3:10Speaker 1: I figure, with fuel prices the way they are, why.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The hell not go all in? How much are we talking? Oh?
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think this particular one was about forty eight.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Wow, they are still expensive.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's pretty cheap.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Now, hold on, is this and you're an old century?
- 3:26Speaker 1: Oh it's not brand new, it's an old one. It's
- 3:28Speaker 1: like twenty hour.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I didn't know they were that expensive. Yeah, oh, I
- 3:32Speaker 2: thought they were like fifteen grand. No, this is I like,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I've got a certain standard. I know you don't like
- 3:39Speaker 2: bass cars.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I just think it'd be fun there's just a lot
- 3:44Speaker 1: of European classic cars at the moment that have I
- 3:47Speaker 1: feel like that they're not as well. The price hike
- 3:51Speaker 1: on them isn't as much as say a secondhand car
- 3:54Speaker 1: from the last couple of years, do you know what
- 3:55Speaker 1: I mean? So at the moment you can get like
- 3:58Speaker 1: a reasonable European could be a bloody Maserati for instance,
- 4:02Speaker 1: for a pretty good price.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I actually saw randomly where was I. I
- 4:09Speaker 2: was driving the Mitsubishi Outlander plug in hybrid from the
- 4:13Speaker 2: launch in Adelaide back to Melbourne and I stopped in
- 4:16Speaker 2: Horsham to charge the car and a new Toyota Century
- 4:21Speaker 2: drove past, but like a new, new one. And I'm
- 4:23Speaker 2: just I'm actually just googling it now because that's what
- 4:28Speaker 2: surprised me. It was. I think it was a century. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 2: it was like a new one. I thought it was
- 4:34Speaker 2: really interesting that.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Have you seen? They don't really do them here. But
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Toyota Crown overseas was always like the especially if
- 4:42Speaker 1: you're in an Asian country, it was always the taxi
- 4:44Speaker 1: cab car. You know, whether you be in Hong Kong
- 4:48Speaker 1: or Singapore or something like that. It was a Toyota Crown.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So I've seen this new Toyota Crown that they've released.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I saw that bees Yeah, I did see that as well.
- 4:56Speaker 1: That that looks good drawings. Yeah, that looks really cool.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, look, I think it's yeah that those cars
- 5:02Speaker 2: have an interesting niche and I think the fact that
- 5:04Speaker 2: they're still so expensive just shows you that how in
- 5:06Speaker 2: demand they are. A lot of people don't understand that
- 5:09Speaker 2: when importing a car, it may be cheap overseas, but
- 5:12Speaker 2: by the time you get it here, get it compliance
- 5:14Speaker 2: and repaxes and there is so much money just dropped
- 5:17Speaker 2: into a black hole that you never get back. So yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 2: well that's fun, good, good for you.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Just you know, I've got to I like the old
- 5:27Speaker 1: older European.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Car older maids.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Me and Daniel have patched things up. He gave me
- 5:40Speaker 3: some vigra. It was like seing an old friend haven't
- 5:44Speaker 3: seen any is. Thank you, Daniel, your piece of ship.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Now we should talk car news because there's some big
- 5:55Speaker 1: developments this week.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's kick off with Lane Cruis seventies. Yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 2: it was hilarious. We will sent a picture from a
- 6:03Speaker 2: dealership that had a whole list of Toyota models and
- 6:06Speaker 2: the estimated wait times, and then it got to the
- 6:10Speaker 2: seventy series land Cruiser and the wait time was four years.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Bracket might not ever happen close break it.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It is a way these cars are stuck, like they've
- 6:21Speaker 1: stuck in the past a little bit that they are.
- 6:24Speaker 2: But Toyota has now come out and said that it's
- 6:26Speaker 2: stopped taking orders because they can't they can't build them, and.
- 6:30Speaker 1: It's it's weird.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I think that people have seen all of this news
- 6:34Speaker 2: on EV's the Act doing evs all this sort of stuff,
- 6:39Speaker 2: and they're like, oh my god, I need to have
- 6:41Speaker 2: a seventy series in my life that I can put
- 6:43Speaker 2: in the shed or just drivers a daily. And the
- 6:46Speaker 2: seventy series has become the new daily and trendy suburbs.
- 6:49Speaker 2: You see them driving to the coffee shop and they're like, oh,
- 6:51Speaker 2: that's my car over there. I've just come from the
- 6:53Speaker 2: Form instead of the Defender. So because the Defender has
- 6:56Speaker 2: become outrageously expensive, so it's the new hipster to buy,
- 7:00Speaker 2: which is quite funny.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Well, there was a land Cruiser once upon a time
- 7:06Speaker 1: was very much like the CEO's car that wants to
- 7:08Speaker 1: appeal to the common mans.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Now it's like soccer mums, and the car
- 7:14Speaker 2: market is so weird at the moment. People are doing
- 7:17Speaker 2: weird shit. So I think now, with interest rates going
- 7:19Speaker 2: up like to record high as compared to what we've
- 7:22Speaker 2: been the past few years, I think that we will
- 7:25Speaker 2: see things like this returning back to normal. People who
- 7:28Speaker 2: had an order on one of these will go, ah,
- 7:29Speaker 2: can't be bothered waiting three years. I've got to pay
- 7:31Speaker 2: off the mortgage, bah bah blah. So I think in
- 7:33Speaker 2: general we'll see wait times for cars slowly coming back
- 7:37Speaker 2: to normal. But you know, it is an interesting development
- 7:39Speaker 2: here that they've kind of stopped it for the moment.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And the funny thing with these guys as well is
- 7:43Speaker 2: that Toyota has spent a lot of money upgrading seventy
- 7:48Speaker 2: series so that it still meets safety standards for today.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So they recently fitted it with side airbags so that
- 7:53Speaker 2: we get its five star crash rating. Yeah.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Just I don't know. I don't see the appeal in
- 7:59Speaker 1: these visual It's sort of just to me, it just looks.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I mean, I get it. It's a it's a farm car.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It will never break down. I come from that sort
- 8:07Speaker 1: of family that bought these sorts of cars, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: But I just I look at it now and kind
- 8:12Speaker 1: of go, how is there a four year wait on this?
- 8:16Speaker 1: What sort of dystopian world are we living in?
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yep, it is crazy. Apple has hired Lamborghini's head engineer,
- 8:24Speaker 2: Luigi Tara Tara Borelli.
- 8:28Speaker 1: You need to say that with more of an accent
- 8:30Speaker 1: on its offensive.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Luigi, you're selling my Indian doctor.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You're gonna tell me I've got a fatty liver.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So he's moved from Italy to the San Francisco Bay area,
- 8:43Speaker 2: and the rumor is that he's joined Apple's secret vehicle program.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And it's so funny Apple. You know that there's so
- 8:50Speaker 2: many leaks that come out of Apple, and they've been
- 8:52Speaker 2: working on this car now for god, for who knows?
- 8:55Speaker 1: How is this the one that they Because they had
- 8:57Speaker 1: investors in Uber once upon a time, I learned that, Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: have you seen that TV show? Yeh've seen that super Pumps.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Which apparently wasn't real. So one of my friends, one
- 9:06Speaker 2: of my friend's friends, was one of the very early employees.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He was in product development and he was at Uber. Yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 2: and he said a lot of the stuff that was
- 9:15Speaker 2: in that that Super Pump show didn't actually happen, So
- 9:17Speaker 2: I think a lot of it was dramatized. Oh god, yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I also think that a lot of it was probably real.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But yes, old mate was a twenty year veteran of
- 9:24Speaker 2: Lamborghini and and was the head of vehicle dynamics for
- 9:28Speaker 2: fourteen years. So this guy knows his shit right, So
- 9:31Speaker 2: he's he's going to Apple, which which leads me to
- 9:33Speaker 2: believe Apple isn't going to release a car that is
- 9:36Speaker 2: just good at tech. They're going to release a car
- 9:38Speaker 2: that will take on Tesla, be the fastest, blah blah.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Blah, self drive, all that sort of stuff.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and when you think about Tesla, if you remove
- 9:46Speaker 2: the high performance nature of those cars and the autonomy features,
- 9:50Speaker 2: it's just like any other ev right. It doesn't doesn't
- 9:52Speaker 2: do anything that special, but the fact that they have
- 9:55Speaker 2: a cult following based on, you know, being the quickest
- 9:58Speaker 2: sedan in the world and that kind thing kind of
- 10:00Speaker 2: gives them something to lean on. So Apple can't just
- 10:03Speaker 2: come out and have an average GV that isn't great
- 10:05Speaker 2: on well, it might be great on tech, but isn't
- 10:08Speaker 2: high performing or handling. So I think they really are
- 10:10Speaker 2: throwing the book at this to make sure that they
- 10:12Speaker 2: don't look like duds when they release this in comparison
- 10:16Speaker 2: to Tesla, because they will be Tesla's main competitor.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I reckon, yeah, I agree. I think Tesla, like one
- 10:20Speaker 1: thing stylistically that they lean on is they're minimalist and
- 10:24Speaker 1: all that sort of stuff, and you know that that's
- 10:26Speaker 1: where Apple's going to be as well. I really can't
- 10:28Speaker 1: wait to see what these are going to look like.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Well, this is the thing. If I look at my phone, right,
- 10:32Speaker 2: I just pay the money I don't handle. So they're
- 10:36Speaker 2: already fine on price. They'll just charge whatever they want.
- 10:39Speaker 2: But the only thing that concerns me is how disposable
- 10:42Speaker 2: a phone is. I just hope they don't have the
- 10:44Speaker 2: same mentality with their cars. A lot of Apple products
- 10:47Speaker 2: are just disposable, Like when you're done with your laptop. Yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 2: you can sell it, but a lot of people don't.
- 10:52Speaker 2: They'll give it to a nephew or to parents or
- 10:54Speaker 2: something like that. I just wonder if the car is
- 10:56Speaker 2: going to be the same, whether they will engineer it
- 10:58Speaker 2: so that it is only something you hold on to
- 11:00Speaker 2: for a few years. Perhaps it'll be a lease.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Imagine that, imagine waste on this. We've talked about this before. Yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but wow, Yeah, that's a that's an interesting concept. It's
- 11:10Speaker 1: funny because I wonder also that this will this have
- 11:13Speaker 1: subscription services in it, like we've heard with BMW with
- 11:17Speaker 1: like if you want electric seats, you can subscribe to
- 11:19Speaker 1: electric seats.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Now, yeah, it could do. And I mean you look
- 11:23Speaker 2: at the phone, right. I pay fifteen bucks a month
- 11:26Speaker 2: for the storage thing. I then pay the iCloud Y clouds. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 2: I then pay fifteen bucks a month for insurance.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You get insurance on that.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Literally three days after I bought this, I bought a
- 11:41Speaker 2: case on eBay. Three days after I got my phone,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I dropped it from like this height, yeah, ten centimeters
- 11:47Speaker 2: onto the table. The screen shattered into a million base
- 11:49Speaker 2: and I'm like, forox sake with the case, I'm with
- 11:53Speaker 2: no case because my case was still in the mail. Eventually,
- 11:57Speaker 2: because I had the insurance, I sent it back to them,
- 12:00Speaker 2: replaced the screen, I stuck the case on it, and
- 12:02Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm not going to cancel the insurance because
- 12:04Speaker 2: you know, I need to just leave it there because
- 12:06Speaker 2: because you're a klutz, and I haven't dropped it since.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It is literally just Murphy's law. So, you know, those
- 12:11Speaker 1: people who don't have a phone case just worry the
- 12:13Speaker 1: crap out of me. My brother in law is one
- 12:15Speaker 1: of them, and he's got the most pristine phone. He's
- 12:18Speaker 1: really high up in the tech world, and he just
- 12:21Speaker 1: he doesn't have a case, and it bothers me. I'm like,
- 12:23Speaker 1: what kind of psychopath are you? You've got this amazing
- 12:26Speaker 1: pristine phone with no case.
- 12:27Speaker 2: You know what annoys me? I'm just looking at it now,
- 12:29Speaker 2: I'm taking the case off. It is such a beautiful
- 12:32Speaker 2: looking well, aside from the hemorrhoid on the back, really
- 12:36Speaker 2: it is such a good looking phone that you then
- 12:38Speaker 2: stick it in a case, you never get to look
- 12:40Speaker 2: at it. And I've got insurance with a case that
- 12:43Speaker 2: if I drop it nothing will ever happen.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, gets rid of the case. You know what, let's
- 12:47Speaker 1: still it live. Now, why have you got a case?
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's been I've just thrown the case. Now watch this
- 12:53Speaker 2: break within the next minute. Yeah, and I let it
- 12:55Speaker 2: sit there just I can see what I think about.
- 12:57Speaker 1: That, all right, So general murder is cracking down on
- 13:00Speaker 1: resellers of in demand vehicles.
- 13:04Speaker 2: GM in the US is basically penalizing buyers of some
- 13:07Speaker 2: of its more expensive, high demand vehicles who resell them.
- 13:10Speaker 2: We've seen this here in Australia with things like EV
- 13:12Speaker 2: six Model three. They'll take delivery of the car listed
- 13:15Speaker 2: online immediately and make some money out.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Of it, Land Cruisers, all of them.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. So it's targeting buyers who purchased the new
- 13:22Speaker 2: Cadillac Escalate X, Escalate V drunk on cam Butcher again,
- 13:29Speaker 2: the Chevy Corvette z O six and the Hummer EV.
- 13:33Speaker 2: So they're making them sign purchase agreements that prevents them
- 13:37Speaker 2: from reselling within twelve months after taking delivery. Good. So, yeah, look,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I think it's good as well. You know, I am
- 13:45Speaker 2: in two minds. Yeah, no, I think it's good because
- 13:49Speaker 2: nothing annoys me more than a brand new car being
- 13:52Speaker 2: released that I'm on a three year waiting list for
- 13:54Speaker 2: to then have some parts, turn around and try and
- 13:56Speaker 2: resell it for thirty grand more online. It actually just
- 13:59Speaker 2: per me off. So certainly for the first year of allocations,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I think this is a great idea because it means
- 14:05Speaker 2: that I'm not going to go try and ditch this thing.
- 14:07Speaker 2: My only concern is what happens if you genuinely wanted
- 14:10Speaker 2: to own a zero six and all of a sudden
- 14:12Speaker 2: fell on financial troubles. Perhaps there's a clause if you
- 14:15Speaker 2: can prove that you're doing it tough, or you sell
- 14:17Speaker 2: it for the price you paid for it, it's okay.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I was going to say, I think there's going to
- 14:20Speaker 1: have to be something like that. I mean, surely if
- 14:22Speaker 1: you can't make if your cars on finance and you
- 14:25Speaker 1: can't make repayments, you know that's going to have to happen.
- 14:29Speaker 1: But as you said, like if you are going to
- 14:30Speaker 1: resell it, there possibly needs to be kind of okay,
- 14:34Speaker 1: but it's capped.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Look, contact at the Drive Show dot com
- 14:37Speaker 2: dot au, send us an email or hit us up
- 14:40Speaker 2: on social. Let us know what you think about this.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Should they do this in Australia. We do see a
- 14:44Speaker 2: lot of this happening recently, so I'd be curious to
- 14:47Speaker 2: see what people think on that.
- 14:48Speaker 1: My old man finally got his land Cruiser. Ah and yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: basically the exact same one was in the showroom selling
- 14:56Speaker 1: for thirty grand more than what he paid. Thirty grand.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I said, Dad, that's the dealer who's bought that off
- 15:01Speaker 1: a customer and has resold it like that's that's that's.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Pretty shit for no one wins out of that, And
- 15:09Speaker 2: I do wonder does anyone dealer out of that? But
- 15:12Speaker 2: does anyone actually pay the thirty grand? I wonder if
- 15:15Speaker 2: what the dealer does is they listed at thirty grand extra,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but they settle on twenty grand extra, so you feel
- 15:20Speaker 2: like you got a deal, but they've still gained twenty grand.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I feel like you could dub them in over that.
- 15:25Speaker 2: But some people don't care, like Ford dealers with Ranger.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Some were trying to charge customers six grand deal delivery
- 15:31Speaker 2: fee even though the last deal of delivery fee they
- 15:34Speaker 2: charged was like fifteen hundred bucks. And we complained to
- 15:37Speaker 2: Ford and Ford was like, oh, well shop around. It's like,
- 15:41Speaker 2: well I can't. That guy's got my order and he'll
- 15:43Speaker 2: just give it to someone else. Like the shop around
- 15:46Speaker 2: things bullshit.
- 15:46Speaker 1: That's pretty much a dealer discretion, right.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's your brand. I mean, yes, it's their business,
- 15:51Speaker 2: but ultimately it's your brand, your reputation at stake here
- 15:54Speaker 2: because of some dealer who wants to make a quick buck.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It's like, just be good, don't be shit you'll actually
- 16:00Speaker 2: make money in the business.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Speaking of GM man, that Hummer EV looks good.
- 16:04Speaker 2: How good is it?
- 16:04Speaker 1: I love it?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 1: She's to be a heavy bugger too, isn't it. Yeah,
- 16:08Speaker 1: fat little bugger to get down the roads actually.
- 16:11Speaker 2: With you and it No, but it would be I
- 16:14Speaker 2: literally several guffles. I'm going down the I literally drove
- 16:21Speaker 2: you here, So don't clean your keys around.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I have no way to get home. I'll actually be
- 16:28Speaker 1: standing outside this studio. You can finish the rest of
- 16:31Speaker 1: the show and like, so, how's about that? Left home?
- 16:34Speaker 2: So with the hummery V, it's actually so heavy that
- 16:37Speaker 2: it falls into a light truck category and it has
- 16:39Speaker 2: to have a specific set of lights on the front
- 16:42Speaker 2: that sort of designated as being a light truck for
- 16:45Speaker 2: oncoming traffic. That's how heavy it is.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It's just ridiculous crazy. Is that that's coming here? Right?
- 16:52Speaker 2: TBC. Yeah, it's another one of these cars that can
- 16:55Speaker 2: barely make enough off for the States. So they're probably
- 16:57Speaker 2: not looking to export anything in the near future at all.
- 17:00Speaker 1: We should talk Kia Nero wait for it. Yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 4: The twenty twenty three Kia Neuro prices start from sixty
- 17:13Speaker 4: five thousand three hundred dollars for the Entry neuro S
- 17:17Speaker 4: and seventy two thousand, one hundred dollars for the tops
- 17:20Speaker 4: back GT line. Here we review both.
- 17:22Speaker 1: All right, So the twenty twenty three what are you
- 17:26Speaker 1: laughing at?
- 17:27Speaker 2: I'm laughing when we get to the price, because you
- 17:30Speaker 2: were trying to guess the price of the car that
- 17:32Speaker 2: I picked you up in.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the Kia twenty twenty three Kya Niro. I
- 17:36Speaker 1: had the h ev yep S.
- 17:40Speaker 2: This is the base one, which is base so forty
- 17:43Speaker 2: four three hundred.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Forty four, three hundred and eighty dollars with the five
- 17:49Speaker 1: hundred and twenty dollars extra for Perrimo paint.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Now, the one that I picked you up in was
- 17:55Speaker 2: the Topspec EV before on road costs seventy two thousand
- 17:59Speaker 2: and one hundred. I mean, you have got to be kidding, right,
- 18:05Speaker 2: that is insane.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Even for the one that I had for forty five
- 18:11Speaker 1: thousand dollars.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Forty five thousand dollars for a hybrid gets you a
- 18:15Speaker 2: RAB four hybrid.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And that's not even that's not even drive away.
- 18:19Speaker 2: No, yeah, that's the thing. I think Kia has really
- 18:23Speaker 2: missed the mark here with pricing for Nero. And look,
- 18:26Speaker 2: it does launch in Australia very soon after Europe, which
- 18:30Speaker 2: doesn't often happen. And it's also the first car to
- 18:33Speaker 2: debut care Connect, which is their phone app, so you
- 18:35Speaker 2: can interact with the car. Great good, but it's late.
- 18:39Speaker 2: A lot of other brands have had this for a
- 18:40Speaker 2: long time now. Yeah, the reason I think it's so
- 18:42Speaker 2: expensive seventy two grand for the vehicle that I picked
- 18:46Speaker 2: you up in the full electric. Yeah, it's not overly quick,
- 18:50Speaker 2: So it's one hundred and fifty killer what's two hundred
- 18:52Speaker 2: and fifty five newton meters batteries sixty four killo what hours?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Driving range of about four hundred and sixty kilometers on
- 19:00Speaker 2: the on the cycle. But to put that pricing into perspective,
- 19:04Speaker 2: if you were to have a look at something like
- 19:05Speaker 2: a Tesla Model three, Tesla Model three in its entry
- 19:09Speaker 2: level trem will do about that range in terms of driving.
- 19:13Speaker 2: And then in addition to that, it comes with all
- 19:15Speaker 2: of the bells and whistles in terms of features as standard,
- 19:18Speaker 2: even in the base model that's sixty five five hundred,
- 19:22Speaker 2: so it's six seven grand cheaper than that. Nero.
- 19:26Speaker 1: It's not a particularly big car. It's price aside for
- 19:30Speaker 1: one second, in terms of the base, I would say,
- 19:32Speaker 1: there's a nice, cheap, cheerful car that a grandma would drive.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean?
- 19:37Speaker 2: It's that it's not cheap.
- 19:39Speaker 1: No, it's it's not at all. And it's it's basically
- 19:44Speaker 1: sits on a ConA platform. Right, So that's sort of
- 19:47Speaker 1: going to give you a bit of size perspective. I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 1: this car was really stripped back, really stripped back.
- 19:53Speaker 2: You know.
- 19:53Speaker 1: It didn't even have that cute little stripe on on
- 19:56Speaker 1: the outside that yours has. It was just the black
- 20:01Speaker 1: pearl paints. Actually, funny story, right, I live in quite
- 20:03Speaker 1: a They said to me, please take care of this
- 20:06Speaker 1: car because it's going to a showroom as a like
- 20:10Speaker 1: a showroom piece sort of thing in two weeks, so
- 20:14Speaker 1: try not to scratch this one. I never park these
- 20:17Speaker 1: cars outside. I parked them in my garage. So that
- 20:22Speaker 1: particular day, that particular night, I had a hell of
- 20:26Speaker 1: a day. I'm like, I'm just gonna park this outside
- 20:28Speaker 1: rather than move all the cars and stuff like that,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I'm going to park it out in the street. So
- 20:33Speaker 1: the next morning I wake up and I live in
- 20:36Speaker 1: quite a sort of a quiet suburb. The next morning
- 20:40Speaker 1: there is a ASX, a Mitsubishi ASX on its roof.
- 20:47Speaker 1: What I live in a street that you can only
- 20:49Speaker 1: do forty k's there's speed limit, there's speed humps and
- 20:52Speaker 1: stuff like that, and there is a ASX on its roof.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Had gone that fast? Flipped and obviously cars are parked
- 21:00Speaker 1: around the side street scraped three cars fairly brand new,
- 21:03Speaker 1: pretty much used Volkswagen Golf type are to stop. And
- 21:10Speaker 1: my car was missed by a meter or two. I
- 21:15Speaker 1: did say pictures of it.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I had no idea this show me.
- 21:18Speaker 1: The well, I hang on, I've got to go through
- 21:19Speaker 1: the I've got to get through all these pictures of
- 21:22Speaker 1: the women's soccer team. First, I'm not even joking.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I know you're not disturbing, but so what happened? How
- 21:30Speaker 2: did the car end up there? Did they find the
- 21:32Speaker 2: person or did the police kids?
- 21:34Speaker 1: It wasn't a stolen car, it was a local car.
- 21:37Speaker 2: They just had a few venos. It was a soccer team.
- 21:43Speaker 1: So so so.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Okay, show me this. I'm very curious to see this.
- 21:49Speaker 2: So holy crap, look at that is unbelievable. I don't
- 21:54Speaker 2: even understand how that happened.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I mean, as you can see this sort of car
- 21:57Speaker 1: and is that the Nero. There's another car there, and
- 21:59Speaker 1: then there's money.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Oh god, that is crazy.
- 22:03Speaker 1: That's a brand new ConA.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Wow, and it's hit that yeah wow, Okay interesting. So
- 22:10Speaker 2: let's put these pictures up on social so people can
- 22:13Speaker 2: see that that is crazy. I don't even know you
- 22:15Speaker 2: could get fast enough in an ax to roll it.
- 22:18Speaker 1: The thing is people will argue, oh, you can easily
- 22:23Speaker 1: roll a car if it hits a curb, even at
- 22:26Speaker 1: low speeds. That street is full of cars around the side.
- 22:31Speaker 1: There's no curve to hit, so it's a very gentle
- 22:35Speaker 1: bend at forty kilometers an hour that person would have
- 22:38Speaker 1: and it happened at twenty past six in the morning.
- 22:40Speaker 1: That someone has just.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Like someone going to work.
- 22:42Speaker 1: It's not like it's a someone someone's either gone to
- 22:45Speaker 1: work or had a big night on the piss. But
- 22:47Speaker 1: look that the area that I live in is very
- 22:50Speaker 1: much Wanderon Valley. Everyone knows everyone else's business, and that
- 22:54Speaker 1: person's known to be an absolute hone in a freak
- 22:58Speaker 1: in an ass a ex Mitch Subishi.
- 23:01Speaker 2: It's disturbing.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Shit, it's weird. Ryan God anyway, So I've really looked
- 23:06Speaker 1: after this car.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah it looks like it but yeah, look, I don't know.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I just wasn't really blown away with it. It's Yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 2: it is just disappointing that it's It just feels like
- 23:15Speaker 2: a low effort thing. And I think they've gone so
- 23:18Speaker 2: aggressive with the pricing because they're hoping that people who
- 23:21Speaker 2: wanted an EV six but don't want to wait two
- 23:23Speaker 2: or three years will basically just go buy one of
- 23:26Speaker 2: these instead. It's seventy two grand because it is comparable
- 23:28Speaker 2: to EV six Base, so I think they're just trying
- 23:32Speaker 2: to milk it a little bit while they can. It
- 23:34Speaker 2: does come with a lot of features and stuff, but
- 23:36Speaker 2: I just don't feel that it's worth seventy two grand
- 23:39Speaker 2: for the top spec one that I was driving, the
- 23:42Speaker 2: one you were driving with the hybrid technology. It is efficient,
- 23:48Speaker 2: like it's four leaders per one hundred ks on the
- 23:50Speaker 2: combined cycle, which is fine. So if it is ultimately
- 23:54Speaker 2: efficiency that you're after, that's not a problem.
- 23:55Speaker 1: But not for forty five thousand dollars.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah, at that price, you're really close to four hybrid,
- 24:00Speaker 2: which uses about the same amount of fuel. Is bigger
- 24:04Speaker 2: better better?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Tech better pretty much everything. It's it's so interesting that
- 24:10Speaker 1: they've priced this so high.
- 24:12Speaker 2: It's cars are becoming expensive. If you look at other manufacturers,
- 24:16Speaker 2: everyone is jacking their prices up. We almost are now
- 24:20Speaker 2: full time writing updated pricing stories on cars because every
- 24:23Speaker 2: week manufacturers will up their prices, removed features, semiconductors, blah
- 24:27Speaker 2: blah blah. So I think it'll keep going for a
- 24:29Speaker 2: little bit longer. We won't see prices stabilizing for a
- 24:32Speaker 2: little while, but as demand on the used car market subsides,
- 24:37Speaker 2: we probably will see less demand for new cars because
- 24:39Speaker 2: you'll go, well, I'm just going to go buy a
- 24:40Speaker 2: used car that it is just so expensive now to
- 24:43Speaker 2: buy a new car that it's just not worth it.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Well, that's my argument. I mean, for let's say, let's
- 24:47Speaker 1: say fifty thousand dollars, If you want to take that
- 24:52Speaker 1: and realistically a mum and dad aren't going to go,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I really want a hybrid. I need a car I
- 24:59Speaker 1: need to put a couple of kids in. Would I
- 25:02Speaker 1: go this base model Key and Nero for fifty thousand,
- 25:05Speaker 1: or would I go a Sportage with a few more
- 25:09Speaker 1: bells and whistles. It might not be hybrid, but who cares.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you're really gonna want a hybrid to pay
- 25:16Speaker 2: that kind of money. So yeah, a little bit disappointing.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I'm sorry to Kea, but I feel.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Like hybrid's at the moment are just priced way out.
- 25:24Speaker 1: We spoke about the mg what was it, the MG
- 25:28Speaker 1: HS plus plus EV which was fifty thousand dollars, and
- 25:33Speaker 1: that's just that was to me, that wasn't bang for
- 25:35Speaker 1: your buck at all.
- 25:36Speaker 2: No, definitely not.
- 25:37Speaker 1: That MG is renowned for bang for your buck really,
- 25:40Speaker 1: and that just doesn't fit in with what they've been
- 25:42Speaker 1: doing at all. What should we review next? I want
- 25:45Speaker 1: you to set me a challenge. I need you just
- 25:47Speaker 1: sent me another. Maybe maybe show up without food next episode?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, trying it to have a heart attack between now
- 25:54Speaker 2: and our next episode.
- 25:56Speaker 1: How's that for a challenge.
- 26:02Speaker 2: We shouldn't fat shame.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I think I've got earn I shouldn't.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Wait, I'm going to be a new man next episode. Yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I'm going to lose three kilos by next episode, probably
- 26:12Speaker 1: because I just took a shit.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Go drive a jeep. I just drove the Jeep Grand
- 26:18Speaker 2: Cherokee l and that was an alarming experience. Is that
- 26:24Speaker 2: the really expensive one they've just released. Yeah, right, one
- 26:27Speaker 2: hundred and fifteen grand for the one that I drove. Well, actually,
- 26:29Speaker 2: email us contact at the Drive show dot com dot

- 26:42Speaker 2: what people think and what they want.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll drive a jeep. I'll do a jeep. Okay,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and can it be any can I pick?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:50Speaker 1: Because I don't want it to be that big luxury
- 26:53Speaker 1: thing just looked like a bit of a waste of money.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You wouldn't be wrong on that.
- 26:58Speaker 1: One hundred and fifteen thousand, right.
- 27:00Speaker 2: The Summit Reserve sounds like a penfolds wine.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I don't I need a wine.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I need a wine to go with this bacon egg
- 27:09Speaker 2: wine at the start of every episode.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Okay, now I know why you're friends with Trevor.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Did he try and see you? In between our last
- 27:19Speaker 2: couple of episodes?
- 27:21Speaker 1: There was a letter and you know what I did.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I sent, I wiped my ass with it, and I
- 27:27Speaker 1: returned it to him. I said, stick this on the fridge.
- 27:30Speaker 1: That your review anyway?
- 27:32Speaker 2: Ah?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, all right, so fine. I'm going to finalize
- 27:35Speaker 1: that Jeep episode coming up, because here's the thing I
- 27:37Speaker 1: quite like. I've always liked Jeeps. I know they went
- 27:40Speaker 1: through a terrible, terrible phase.
- 27:43Speaker 2: When did that end well? To me?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Jeeps are one of those companies that you want them
- 27:48Speaker 1: to do well. Yeah, they just never just ah, I
- 27:52Speaker 1: pulled my hair out.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I feel about you. I just want you to do
- 27:56Speaker 2: well and then you know you rock up with all
- 27:58Speaker 2: that food. Please leave us a rating if you haven't
- 28:01Speaker 2: done so already, a five star rating on whichever platform

- 28:08Speaker 1: Even the tears that I'm crying actually smell like bacon grease. Yeah,

- 28:38Speaker 2: that goes okay, what a shit challenge.
