- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Guitar Jet podcast, where you'll skyrocket your
- 0:03Speaker 1: knowledge of theory, techniques, and fundamentals for guitar.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hey, welcome to the show. I'm your chief guitar and
- 0:11Speaker 2: structor Miles, and today we're going back to the basics
- 0:13Speaker 2: and covering a foundational concept in guitar theory, the musical alphabet.
- 0:19Speaker 2: And you would not believe how many guitar players and
- 0:23Speaker 2: young aspiring musicians actually don't know the musical alphabet. Yeah,
- 0:28Speaker 2: so let's go back to basics, and we'll start by
- 0:32Speaker 2: talking about twelve notes. So there are twelve total notes
- 0:36Speaker 2: in the musical alphabet in western harmony, and you have
- 0:41Speaker 2: seven natural notes cdefgab, and then you have accidental notes,
- 0:47Speaker 2: which is like C SHARPD sharp, F sharp, G sharp,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and A sharp. So a natural note has no sharp
- 0:55Speaker 2: or flat. And we already covered the seven from C
- 0:59Speaker 2: to B. And the reason that we cover the natural
- 1:02Speaker 2: notes starting from C is because when you go through
- 1:05Speaker 2: all seven natural notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B,
- 1:08Speaker 2: so all seven natural notes starting from C, you create
- 1:11Speaker 2: the C major scale, which is often considered the mother
- 1:14Speaker 2: of all major scales because it's the only major scale
- 1:19Speaker 2: whose notes are all natural and then the accidental notes
- 1:24Speaker 2: are notes that have a sharp or flat, such as
- 1:28Speaker 2: G sharp or B flat. Accidentals appear between natural notes.
- 1:33Speaker 2: There are only two notes without a sharp, and that's
- 1:36Speaker 2: B an E. This means that there's only one half
- 1:40Speaker 2: step between them and the next natural note. You can
- 1:43Speaker 2: notice this when you look at a piano and see
- 1:46Speaker 2: that there's no black piano key between B and C
- 1:50Speaker 2: or between E and F. And that's it. And you
- 1:54Speaker 2: can find the show notes in the description below and
- 1:59Speaker 2: I hope catch you in the next episode of the
- 2:01Speaker 2: Guitar Jet podcast. Subscribe to the show and leave us
- 2:05Speaker 2: a review and have a fantastic day of guitar playing.
