- 0:00I mean, yeah, the championship fourth thing, like, you know,
- 0:02I've been able to experience that obviously, like I said in
- 0:03the Xfinity side, but it's it's different.
- 0:05You know, I'm glad that because I was 22, I made the round of
- 0:09eight and I cut the car. So I at least kind of know the
- 0:12intensity of the round of eight. It was it was a way different
- 0:14situation just because we were like complete underdog and you
- 0:18know, so it just felt different than what it feels like right
- 0:20now. But I think just having that
- 0:21experience and at least just kind of knowing how that round
- 0:24of 8 feels is, is good to, you know, I'm not doing it for my
- 0:28first time this time around. So yeah, I think it'll help.
- 0:31I mean, anytime you can have experience, I feel like in this
- 0:33playoff format, it just it helps.
- 0:36You know, there's a reason the same guy is going to get there
- 0:38year after year. And, you know, they just have a
- 0:40lot of experience doing. It being in that position now,
- 0:44how has team morale been? Because of course, your
- 0:46teammates have had a lot of chaotic moments that you seems
- 0:50to be mild matter. How is things going on in the
- 0:5319th team to kind of keep that mindset still knowing that we've
- 0:56got Vegas talent. I got Mark but all completely
- 0:58different wild back. Yeah, I feel like the 19, you
- 1:01know, team has been, you know, really in a good spot.
- 1:04You know, truthfully, just whether it's him morale or
- 1:07confidence wise. You know, we we definitely our
- 1:10teammates have been in some controversy here and there, but,
- 1:12you know, we've kind of been out of that.
- 1:13So yeah, I feel really good about where we're at as a team.
- 1:16You know, we definitely put a lot of emphasis on this weekend,
- 1:18just knowing that, you know, there's a lot of unknowns in the
- 1:20next two weeks. And yeah, I don't know, I feel
- 1:22like we're as good as anybody we're going to truthfully in the
- 1:25sport right now from a speed standpoint and even, you know,
- 1:27we've been doing a decent job of executing.
- 1:29So yeah, it's got to put together for four more weeks.
- 1:31How do you feel the dynamic at Talladega change for you in a
- 1:35Toyota compared to how all the Fords really worked together in
- 1:39the past On the restrictor plate tracks it's.
- 1:43Definitely different. It's been a little bit of an
- 1:45adjustment. You know, just First off, really
- 1:47just the number side of things. You know, there's just so many
- 1:50Fords out there and Toyotas just don't have that many.
- 1:53You know, there's more now than there's ever been.
- 1:54But you know, just the, you know, the Ford stuff, I was kind
- 1:58of there, I mean, they always had worked well together.
- 2:01But really over the course of the last four or five years, we
- 2:03just put a tenant emphasis in really, really working together,
- 2:07whether it was even, you know, just not your team, but just as
- 2:10a manufacturer as a whole. And that's something that I feel
- 2:13like I've tried to bring over to this side.
- 2:16Just kind of explain to them how they, you know, do things and
- 2:19how they approach stuff and just hard, you know, it just takes
- 2:22time. I mean, the 4th stuff, arguably
- 2:24it's taken 10 years to get to where they're at right now.
- 2:26So I feel like we did a really good job the last couple
- 2:30superspeedway races, but we're just still learning so much
- 2:33about it. And it's a little bit different
- 2:36too, when it's the random 8, right, Versus, you know, random
- 2:39Talladega race in April when there's not as much on the line.
- 2:42So I don't know, I think we'll be fine.
- 2:45It's just a matter of going there and hoping to survive.
- 2:47That being said, were there discussions about the disconnect
- 2:51at Kansas? I mean, you know, just not that
- 2:54you, you do have to help your teammates, but you have to help
- 2:57yourself, you know? But there seem to be a
- 2:59disconnect among the Toyotas at Kansas.
- 3:02Didn't you guys kind of iron things out?
- 3:05Well, we never talked about anything.
- 3:07You know, truthfully, I think it's so hard, especially this
- 3:10time of the year because like, yeah, it would have been an
- 3:13amazing, you know, Toyota could have got a 125 finish or
- 3:15whatever. But we're all up there racing
- 3:17for our championship life. And because we were all racing
- 3:22and just allowed, you know, the dying to get in there and kind
- 3:25of sneak through. And, you know, if those roles
- 3:27reversed, like, I don't, I don't think Chevy or Ford would have
- 3:29done anything different either. Like it's just nature of the
- 3:32beast of how these research go and the circumstances and just
- 3:35everything lined up kind of perfectly for the 9 there to, to
- 3:38kind of, you know, steal one from all of us.
- 3:40So yeah, I, I don't know, we didn't really talk about it
- 3:42truthfully. You know, it was a a bummer for
- 3:44sure. But I don't.
- 3:45I don't really know what else we could have done different.
- 3:47Is part of that just you learning your Toyota teammates
- 3:50too so you can be a better teammate overall?
- 3:52I mean, you have to look out for yourself again, but.
- 3:55Yeah, I mean, you're, you're man, at the end of the day,
- 3:57you're always looking out for yourself, right?
- 3:59But you try to do things to, to help your teammates and, and,
- 4:03you know, help your, you know, manufacturer.
- 4:05It's just hard. If it's a green, white checkered
- 4:08like there, there's nothing you can really do.
- 4:10You're you're out there for yourself.
- 4:12And you know, I, we talked about it even after the New Hampshire
- 4:15do a little bit of, you know, what's OK and what's not OK.
- 4:17And you know, I kind of was the one that raised my hand said,
- 4:20look on restarts like you just have to do what's best for
- 4:22yourself. Because if if we're trying to,
- 4:25you know, not put each other in bad spots, well then it ends up
- 4:28putting you in a bad spot and like you just got to go and race
- 4:31at the end of the day. So yeah, I think once we get
- 4:33single fouled out, then you can be a good teammate.
- 4:35But on research you just got to go and and hope that it works
- 4:39out. Chase, you talked about earlier
- 4:41that experience level. You've been in this round of
- 4:43eight once, but your crew chief, James Small has also been here
- 4:45before. What's the conversations
- 4:47throughout the week been with him?
- 4:50Honestly, not a lot. Me and James, if you get to
- 4:52still talk about the playoffs, we just, I don't know, I think
- 4:56some of us just, you know, we're still so new and, you know, this
- 4:59is one of the few tracks we went to for the second time.
- 5:01But a lot of the time we're just trying to figure out, you know,
- 5:04what setup we're going to take and, you know, how I should
- 5:06drive the car that weekend because it's my first time going
- 5:09there in the JGR car. So yeah, we've we've got to talk
- 5:12about playoffs, you know, and really the way I think we both
- 5:15have kind of looked at it is if we just go perform like the
- 5:18points are going to be OK. And obviously if you win, it
- 5:20doesn't matter anyways. So, you know, we've just been
- 5:22trying to go to the racetrack and trying to, you know, win the
- 5:25poll and lead every lap and win the race and the points we want
- 5:28to be. Where do you think your guys's
- 5:29relationship has grown since you said that That moment clicked
- 5:32that Charlotte with this team. I think just I don't know, I
- 5:37think as I started running better, right, like the the team
- 5:40and James started getting more, you know, just confidence in me
- 5:43then and, you know, understanding kind of what I
- 5:46look for in the car. And, you know, at the beginning
- 5:48of the year, truthfully, like I probably was steering them in
- 5:50the wrong direction a lot of the time, just not not really
- 5:53understanding how the cars drive quite yet.
- 5:55And you know, now I feel like we're both like I have 100%
- 5:59confidence in James and engineers that if I go out and
- 6:02practice this first run, it's a little bit off or even if it's
- 6:04way off, like I have no panic, no worry.
- 6:07I know that they're going to get a good.
- 6:08So I think it's the same on on there and with me, you know, if
- 6:11I'm out there and you know, we're a little bit off now, it's
- 6:14to the point where James, like, hey, look like we got to get the
- 6:16car better for you too. So yeah, I think just as we've
- 6:19started to run better and, and obviously as we've gotten to
- 6:21know each other too, you know, that confidence is just
- 6:23building. You know, we're a really good
- 6:24spot right now.
