- 0:06Speaker 1: All right, pencils down, heads up, Steve, It's time for
- 0:09Speaker 1: the NFL Report.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Steve White, James Palmer with you, and we have the
- 0:13Speaker 2: man Steve who.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Was spending every waking hour with the number one overall pick,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Bryce Young. That's Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown gonna join
- 0:21Speaker 1: the show for an exclusive interview. Just wait, do you
- 0:25Speaker 1: hear what he asked to say about about the number
- 0:27Speaker 1: one pick?
- 0:28Speaker 3: I get?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Just wait until you have.
- 0:30Speaker 4: I can't wait for it because I used to cover
- 0:31Speaker 4: Thomas and college when he was a running back at Georgia.
- 0:34Speaker 4: So I'm really excited about this. But Jay PMLO down
- 0:37Speaker 4: the dumps. You know, two days ago a water main breaks,
- 0:41Speaker 4: a waterminon breaks in the house, so I got a
- 0:43Speaker 4: whole room flooded. My wife's got her family up, My
- 0:46Speaker 4: wife D's got her family up from Jamaica, so we
- 0:48Speaker 4: got this whole room now that's flooded, waters everywhere. But
- 0:51Speaker 4: that's not why I'm really down on the dumps JP.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It was the plumbing.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Duw.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, they're like it's gonna cost you this much.
- 0:59Speaker 4: I felt like Vonte is perfect. When I got fined
- 1:01Speaker 4: by the NFL from my fifteenth hit for unnecessary roughness
- 1:05Speaker 4: and do you know how big that fine those fines are.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's from Owen lawns around the neighborhood.
- 1:11Speaker 3: That's where I'm right now.
- 1:12Speaker 4: But look, we're also gonna have Brian Baldinger, and we
- 1:14Speaker 4: are gonna have all kinds of different angles on this
- 1:17Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers subject, from how you know Aaron Rodgers history
- 1:20Speaker 4: to how it affects not only the Jets moving forward,
- 1:23Speaker 4: but at least one of their opponents.
- 1:25Speaker 3: You're not gonna want to miss that. We've got Stacey.
- 1:27Speaker 4: DL's, Brian Baldinger, Mike Grefolo, Judy Batista joining us JP
- 1:32Speaker 4: and first up, this is a game I don't think
- 1:34Speaker 4: either one of us can wait to see. Coming up,
- 1:37Speaker 4: we've got the Kansas City Chiefs coming off the l
- 1:39Speaker 4: to the Detroit Lions playing the Jacksonville Jaguars who win
- 1:42Speaker 4: the opener and James. This doesn't say anything about the Chiefs,
- 1:46Speaker 4: but the fact that we're talking about how they could
- 1:49Speaker 4: open the season with back to back losses against the
- 1:51Speaker 4: Lions and Jags tells you the state of those teams
- 1:55Speaker 4: right now.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Steve, you've been down to the dumps too much, so
- 1:59Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go negative. I'm gonna swing it over
- 2:01Speaker 1: to Jacksonville and go positive for us here. Imagine what
- 2:05Speaker 1: this benchmark game could be for the Jacksonville Jaguars organization.
- 2:10Speaker 1: If they take down the defending Super Bowl champs in
- 2:12Speaker 1: Week two and this might happen. I think, Steve, because
- 2:16Speaker 1: of when this game is happening, it's early in the season.
- 2:18Speaker 1: We know Chris Jones is back, we know he's been
- 2:21Speaker 1: doing two a days down.
- 2:21Speaker 2: In Miami, but he's not Nick Bosa.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm curious how many snaps he can go and how
- 2:26Speaker 1: that affects them getting after Trevor Lawrence because there's some
- 2:29Speaker 1: issues injuries wise up front on that offensive line. Can
- 2:32Speaker 1: they still be explosive and they can put some points
- 2:34Speaker 1: on the board. And then on the other side, we
- 2:37Speaker 1: know Travis Kelce probably coming back for this game. I
- 2:40Speaker 1: was told when an injury happened, a one to two
- 2:42Speaker 1: week injury. Is he one hundred percent? This could be
- 2:46Speaker 1: shaking up for a really good spot in the season
- 2:50Speaker 1: for Jacksonville to come away with a win. The closing
- 2:53Speaker 1: part of this, Steve, is closing out games. That's something
- 2:57Speaker 1: that the Jaguars know that the Chiefs are very good
- 2:59Speaker 1: at We know that Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are
- 3:01Speaker 1: great in the fourth quarter.
- 3:02Speaker 2: They get better as the game goes on.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But talking to people in Jacksonville, they believe that's a
- 3:06Speaker 1: trait that they're developing as well. And if they're able
- 3:10Speaker 1: to compete in the fourth quarter and win a tight
- 3:13Speaker 1: game over the defending Super Bowl champs, a game that
- 3:15Speaker 1: they believe they should have won in the postseason, right
- 3:17Speaker 1: talk to Doug Peters in this offseason. He truly believes
- 3:20Speaker 1: they should have won that game in Arrowhead. This could
- 3:22Speaker 1: be a massive game for the organization, for the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and they're treating it as such. It's a playoff atmosphere,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I'm told down there in.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Jacksonville, well as it should be.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Look Kevin Calvin Ridley and the way he performed in
- 3:33Speaker 4: his debut last week is great reason for that optimism.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And the fact that he talked about that the.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Jags actually had the Chiefs on the ropes to some
- 3:41Speaker 4: degree in that playoff game last season, I mean that
- 3:44Speaker 4: says a lot about where they are. And I remember
- 3:46Speaker 4: this was the game when Patrick Mahomes first had that
- 3:48Speaker 4: got that high ankle. Spraint lingered all the way through
- 3:51Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, so that was part of it.
- 3:53Speaker 3: But you brought up Travis Kelcey.
- 3:54Speaker 4: He had fourteen catches and two touchdowns in that game.
- 3:58Speaker 4: He is that much of a difference make. But we'll
- 4:00Speaker 4: make a difference with this receiving corps that did not
- 4:03Speaker 4: play well without him in Week one? Or will arrest
- 4:07Speaker 4: of the guy step up to help booie Travis Kelsey,
- 4:09Speaker 4: Because all of a sudden, if Kelsey's not one hundred percent,
- 4:12Speaker 4: those guys aren't showing up that and we have to
- 4:14Speaker 4: start to wonder if the Kansas City Chiefs have I
- 4:16Speaker 4: have some greater underlying issues.
- 4:19Speaker 1: All Right, I'm really curious where Joan Taylor is going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to line up, Steve. I'm really I'm really curious how
- 4:23Speaker 1: far back he's.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Gonna going to left tackle. You were talking about depth
- 4:28Speaker 4: from the line of scrimmage.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And guess what, I think Doug Peterson knows a thing
- 4:32Speaker 1: or two about about his former tackle.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Let's move to the game that I'm going to be Yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and I think this is a great game. This is
- 4:39Speaker 2: Ravens at Bengals.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And I had a chance to talk to a couple
- 4:43Speaker 1: players on the phone this week, had a chance to
- 4:44Speaker 1: talk to Tyler Boyd, who told me that, yes, that
- 4:47Speaker 1: is the worst he has ever seen Joe Burrow play.
- 4:50Speaker 1: But the interesting part Steven in our conversation is he said,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you know why he's so even keel all the time,
- 4:55Speaker 1: because he said, this week, nothing has faced him. He's
- 4:57Speaker 1: been the same guy each and every day. Bothered him
- 5:00Speaker 1: that he went out and threw for eighty two yards. Yes,
- 5:02Speaker 1: he did to get a haircut. He said that was
- 5:03Speaker 1: partially because of the way he played, not entirely, but
- 5:06Speaker 1: he said, this is why he's wired this way. He
- 5:09Speaker 1: goes to Ohio State, my university, makes a terrible decision
- 5:13Speaker 1: and moves on from him.
- 5:14Speaker 2: He transfers to LSU.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And his point with this is he has had to
- 5:18Speaker 1: grind each in every spot he's been. Nothing's been handed
- 5:22Speaker 1: to him in any of the spots he's been, which
- 5:24Speaker 1: is an interesting thing to say for a former.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Number one overall pick.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But he said that's why he has this mentality that
- 5:31Speaker 1: he can go out and bounce back from things because
- 5:33Speaker 1: of what's happened to him in his path getting to
- 5:36Speaker 1: the NFL and being the highest paid player in the
- 5:38Speaker 1: history of the league right now.
- 5:40Speaker 4: JP, if we think he is not going to bounce back,
- 5:43Speaker 4: that we need to go get drug tested or something.
- 5:46Speaker 4: You know, I need to go have more pipes in
- 5:48Speaker 4: my house burst or something.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Because he's going to bounce back. He's gonna bounce back.
- 5:52Speaker 4: The issue of this game is not going to be
- 5:54Speaker 4: Joe Burrow against This Ravens defense is down some dbs
- 5:57Speaker 4: right They've already had some injuries on their defense. The
- 6:00Speaker 4: issue is going to be Cincinnati's defense because no matter
- 6:04Speaker 4: what we want to say about this expanded Ravens offense,
- 6:06Speaker 4: they're still going to try.
- 6:07Speaker 3: To run the ball. And Baltimore's offense.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Was not great in their opener against Houston. They barely
- 6:11Speaker 4: surpassed one hundred yards on the ground. Lamar Jackson was
- 6:14Speaker 4: a little bit here and there when it came to
- 6:17Speaker 4: the pass game.
- 6:17Speaker 3: They've got some things to work out.
- 6:19Speaker 4: But after seeing the Bengals surrender more than two hundred
- 6:22Speaker 4: rushing guards against the Browns and they really didn't adjust
- 6:25Speaker 4: to fix it.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Now, the Ravens they don't have JK.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Dobbins, you know, they don't have Nick Chubb that Cleveland did,
- 6:30Speaker 4: But that defense has got to button it up or else,
- 6:34Speaker 4: John Harbaugh, Todd Munket, and that that run offense is
- 6:37Speaker 4: going to continue to trying to pound the rock.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Steve.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I look at one word that sums up I think
- 6:43Speaker 1: this entire game, and that is communication, and that involves
- 6:47Speaker 1: the Ravens. What are the two position groups that need
- 6:50Speaker 1: the really the best amount of continuity communication within a game.
- 6:53Speaker 1: It's offensive line and it's the second death second right,
- 6:56Speaker 1: those are the two spots that need to continue to
- 6:57Speaker 1: talk to each other throughout a game.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You mentioned it.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Marcus Williams, the leader of that secondary, most likely not
- 7:02Speaker 1: playing in this game, hasn't practiced all week with the
- 7:04Speaker 1: peck injury. Marlon Humphrey not back yet from the foot injury.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Down both those guys. Kyle Hamilton talked about it at
- 7:10Speaker 1: length this week about how communication is an issue back there. Yes,
- 7:13Speaker 1: they all play call of duty with one another. That
- 7:15Speaker 1: does happen in the secondary when they're having their downtime,
- 7:18Speaker 1: but on the field, having the proper amount of communication
- 7:21Speaker 1: against these three dynamic wide receivers is important. And then
- 7:24Speaker 1: Ronnie Staley and Tyler Linderbaum, their center and their left
- 7:27Speaker 1: table have not practiced all week.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The game on Sunday.
- 7:31Speaker 1: That's difficult upfront, when you're working in a new system
- 7:35Speaker 1: and just your second game with it. You want to
- 7:37Speaker 1: run the football, and we know DJ Reader and company
- 7:39Speaker 1: up front with Luena Romo can make some damage. Those
- 7:42Speaker 1: are the two spots I'm really keeping an eye on
- 7:44Speaker 1: in this game when I'm going to be there on Sunday.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean talking about interesting defenses.
- 7:49Speaker 4: We saw the Dallas Cowboys put a forty long dunk
- 7:53Speaker 4: on the Giants in the open of Micah Parsons.
- 7:56Speaker 3: At every level they dominated.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Well, guess what they've got Zach Wilson and the one
- 8:01Speaker 4: to o Jets this week. But on paper, it looks
- 8:04Speaker 4: like an absolute domination for this Cowboys, going up against
- 8:07Speaker 4: a quarterback who has still not found himself.
- 8:10Speaker 3: He was Aaron Rodgers backup.
- 8:12Speaker 4: But this is what we're gonna do because we're gonna
- 8:14Speaker 4: talk about Aaron Rodgers exclusively.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But I'm gonna tell you how Aaron Rodgers injury affects
- 8:19Speaker 3: more than just the Jets.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Within minutes of him going down Monday night, you better
- 8:26Speaker 4: believe all the Cowboys coaches, analytics people, scouts, everybody had
- 8:32Speaker 4: to scrap their game plan for their defensive install against
- 8:36Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers. Remember there are coaches on the Cowboy staff
- 8:39Speaker 4: who were with Mike McCarthy and the Packers that you
- 8:41Speaker 4: know how Aaron Rodgers operates, scrap.
- 8:43Speaker 3: That get ready for Zach Wilson.
- 8:45Speaker 4: So what do they have with Zach Wilson preseason tape
- 8:48Speaker 4: with him in the Daniel Hackett system. So they had
- 8:50Speaker 4: to go scour that and we know in the preseason
- 8:53Speaker 4: they don't do too much. They had to watch this
- 8:55Speaker 4: game again to see what worked for the Jets, and
- 8:58Speaker 4: then they had to also go back and maybe look
- 8:59Speaker 4: at some of Jack Wilson stuff that he did the
- 9:03Speaker 4: last couple of seasons when he didn't play well. You
- 9:05Speaker 4: have your scouts going back look at their their reviews
- 9:07Speaker 4: out of him. But he was coming out of BYU.
- 9:09Speaker 4: So there's a lot of detail for the opponent this week,
- 9:14Speaker 4: the Dallas Cowboys that.
- 9:16Speaker 3: They had to go to that they were not expecting
- 9:18Speaker 3: to go to. That's just another.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Trickle down aspect of Aaron Rodgers' injury JP.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And you have to think it's week two, right, So
- 9:26Speaker 1: some of this work is done by some people in
- 9:28Speaker 1: that building during the end of preseason.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I mean they were probably a weighs.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Down in terms of their preparation about where they were
- 9:36Speaker 1: with this and because of their understanding of Nathaniel Hackett
- 9:39Speaker 1: and the thunderstanding specifically of Aaron Rodgers, and I'd like
- 9:43Speaker 1: to talk about Rogers moving forward, and we're going to
- 9:45Speaker 1: talk back up quarterbacks and their importance with Damas Brown
- 9:49Speaker 1: coming up in his interview, because I think they have
- 9:51Speaker 1: an experience, very good one there in Carolina.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And so.
- 9:56Speaker 2: There were questions Steve, going, all right, where do the
- 9:58Speaker 2: Jets go? Who should they bring in?
- 10:00Speaker 1: The best quarterback if you ask around the league for
- 10:02Speaker 1: the Jets right now, is Zach Wilson because he has
- 10:04Speaker 1: an understanding of the system, and anybody you bring in
- 10:07Speaker 1: that has to learn that system and play x mentally
- 10:09Speaker 1: better than him probably doesn't really exist for your liking
- 10:12Speaker 1: or your ability to go and get that quarterback. What
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm curious about is because these two have sparked up
- 10:17Speaker 1: a very good friendship throughout this training camp, and that's
- 10:21Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers and Zack Wilson. Is Rogers going to stick
- 10:25Speaker 1: around and work in the room with Zach Wilson and
- 10:28Speaker 1: Nathaniel Hackett and company and making sure this young quarterback
- 10:31Speaker 1: is set up to succeed the best he can. Now, again,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I should put this clearly, that is not Aaron Rodgers'
- 10:36Speaker 1: job right now. His job is to get healthy, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: his job is to rehab and go through all this.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But he has talked about how rejuvenated he has Ben
- 10:44Speaker 1: Steve coming and wing with these guys, throwing with everybody
- 10:46Speaker 1: in the offseason and being around this young group. He
- 10:50Speaker 1: could do wonders for helping out Zach Wilson because he
- 10:53Speaker 1: knows this better than anybody else.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I'm curious to see what role he plays moving forwards.
- 10:58Speaker 3: And this is why I'm so glad.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I asked scy Dale's on Rye Stacia, world class athlete and
- 11:02Speaker 4: Olympic basketball player. It seems like it's a fairly simple
- 11:05Speaker 4: ask of Aaron Rodgers. Hey, once you've had your surgery,
- 11:07Speaker 4: come back and help. But we don't know what Aaron
- 11:10Speaker 4: Rodgers is going to be going through. We don't know
- 11:12Speaker 4: what he could be dealing with. We've heard so many
- 11:14Speaker 4: athletes talk about maybe going into dark pockets during rehab.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And things like that.
- 11:19Speaker 4: So to say Aaron, you need to be there for him,
- 11:22Speaker 4: that's not necessarily as simplistic of an ask as it
- 11:26Speaker 4: could be.
- 11:26Speaker 3: But I think your point of the fact that just
- 11:29Speaker 3: a few.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Months that he's had together with Zach Wilson, the relationship
- 11:32Speaker 4: that they've had, he might be able to have sprinkled
- 11:34Speaker 4: some of that magic faery dust on him that it
- 11:37Speaker 4: looks like he sprinkled for three seasons on Jordan Love
- 11:40Speaker 4: based on how Jordan Love came out of the gate
- 11:42Speaker 4: last week.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Man, I was talking to Tracy Wilson in Foxborough last Sunday.
- 11:47Speaker 2: She goes, we have the Jets Cowboys. Can you believe it?
- 11:49Speaker 1: I can't remember last time we did a Jets game
- 11:52Speaker 1: for our big broadcast on CBS. Well and Zach Wilson
- 11:55Speaker 1: against the Cowboys.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Well, coming up, we.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Have the number one overall pick, Bryce Young's mentors sidekick,
- 12:01Speaker 1: the guy who was molding him, Thomas Brown, the offensive
- 12:05Speaker 1: coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
- 12:06Speaker 2: This is going to be ridiculous. Stick with us on
- 12:09Speaker 2: the NFL Report.
- 12:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Now, we have a very very special guest and JP.
- 12:20Speaker 4: This is what we love, right We're bringing people insiders
- 12:24Speaker 4: and information that they're not going to get anywhere else.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And we got Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown joining us here.
- 12:30Speaker 3: On the NFL Report TV.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Let's go, let's go. Excited to be here.
- 12:34Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking to. Man, you're looking good.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Hey, shit, hey, appreciate it.
- 12:37Speaker 4: You know for the folks who are listening on the podcast,
- 12:39Speaker 4: they want to see. But Thomas, he's got off the
- 12:40Speaker 4: shrugs machine. He's kind of jacked and swollen right now.
- 12:42Speaker 6: In our shot, you only get one body of life, right,
- 12:46Speaker 6: got a maximize that take care of it, work out
- 12:48Speaker 6: every day.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they had to widen his shot to fit him
- 12:52Speaker 1: in there. We're scrunched on the sides. Make sure he
- 12:54Speaker 1: looks good in the middle.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Hey a Thomas, Just just for timeliness of this before
- 12:59Speaker 4: we get on to a couple of years ago, you
- 13:02Speaker 4: blew out your achilles tendon, you know, when you were
- 13:05Speaker 4: with the Rams.
- 13:06Speaker 3: You're rolling around on the scooter and everything.
- 13:08Speaker 4: What you look You're you're a former world class athlete,
- 13:10Speaker 4: NFL running back, college running back. But what is that
- 13:12Speaker 4: experience like and just kind of walk as quickly through
- 13:15Speaker 4: your rehab.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Yes, it was rough.
- 13:17Speaker 6: So I would say I was going through a number
- 13:19Speaker 6: routine on the field, doing the individual drill.
- 13:21Speaker 5: So every day we have.
- 13:23Speaker 6: I would say twenty minutes of individual So I have
- 13:26Speaker 6: the running backs and quarterbacks going through ball handle and
- 13:29Speaker 6: so I'm just kind of making those guys react.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Off of me.
- 13:32Speaker 6: And I make one step and I feel like that
- 13:34Speaker 6: somebody just threw a football at the back of my ankle.
- 13:37Speaker 6: So I turned around looking behind me try to see
- 13:39Speaker 6: the ball was on the ground. I realized there was
- 13:41Speaker 6: no ball there, so I tried to go take a
- 13:42Speaker 6: step and I just helped.
- 13:43Speaker 5: My whole kind of ankle and foot drop.
- 13:45Speaker 6: So I turned to Reggie Scott and Sam McVay was
- 13:48Speaker 6: kind of standing by each other, and said, I think
- 13:49Speaker 6: I just told my achilles, and so they thought I
- 13:52Speaker 6: was joking, but I was. I was very serious about
- 13:54Speaker 6: tarring the achilles, and so Reggie asked me, are you sure,
- 13:58Speaker 6: And I said, Reggie, I'm not a doctor, but I'm
- 13:59Speaker 6: pretty try. I know what happens, will goes in between
- 14:01Speaker 6: the same little spot, and it's missing right now.
- 14:04Speaker 5: And so my first thought was.
- 14:06Speaker 6: You know, can I get off the field and I
- 14:09Speaker 6: walk off the field, So I tried to. I did
- 14:11Speaker 6: walk myself to the training room, and so a number
- 14:14Speaker 6: of motions are going through.
- 14:15Speaker 5: My brain, you know.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Luckily, for me in that position, I'm no longer playing,
- 14:18Speaker 6: so it won't affect that aspect of it. I can
- 14:21Speaker 6: imagine from a players standpoint, right how devastate it is
- 14:24Speaker 6: going to be when it comes to the initial injury
- 14:26Speaker 6: being out for the entire year, but thinking about just
- 14:28Speaker 6: the rehab process going back and kind of recovering from
- 14:32Speaker 6: the injury. And for myself, I mean, I'm a fairly
- 14:35Speaker 6: older dude now, I try to still be somewhat relatively young,
- 14:37Speaker 6: but it took me a good, you know, eight to
- 14:40Speaker 6: nine months to get back to doing everything I want.
- 14:44Speaker 1: You're like thirty, you know, you're younger than Rogers, Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 1: for sure.
- 14:48Speaker 6: So I mean I think being able to try to
- 14:50Speaker 6: build back and get back into one hundred percent shape
- 14:52Speaker 6: was was a tough challenge for me my life. But
- 14:55Speaker 6: it's different when it comes to being a washed up
- 14:58Speaker 6: coach versus being a player.
- 14:59Speaker 5: And you're problem right now.
- 15:02Speaker 1: But I'm kind of curious in this so when this happens,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and not just what we saw Monday night with Aaron Rodgers,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but in any instance where you know your starter goes down,
- 15:11Speaker 1: what's the first conversation on the sideline that you have
- 15:16Speaker 1: as a play caller, as an offensive coordinator, as a
- 15:18Speaker 1: part of the offensive staff. With that backup quarterback that's
- 15:20Speaker 1: going in what initially happens on the sideline right away, Well.
- 15:24Speaker 5: The first thing for me is just trying.
- 15:26Speaker 6: So it makes me ease his mind when it comes
- 15:28Speaker 6: to the moment of having a to come in that
- 15:30Speaker 6: top opportunity.
- 15:31Speaker 5: I think every time you have a major injury on
- 15:33Speaker 5: the field, I think every player.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Kind of has that that thought in the back of
- 15:36Speaker 6: their mind about some significant injury happening. So my role
- 15:40Speaker 6: is going to be a tight hole. All those guys
- 15:42Speaker 6: done as much as possible. All those guys will play
- 15:44Speaker 6: with a quiet in mind and kind of get those
- 15:45Speaker 6: guys rolling.
- 15:46Speaker 5: I want to play starts.
- 15:48Speaker 4: So Thomas, with that situation, you know, so we know
- 15:52Speaker 4: the big deal with Aaron Rodgers going to the Jets
- 15:53Speaker 4: the quarterback, you guys have a very capable backup and
- 15:58Speaker 4: Andy Dalton. I mean, right as we're looking around the NFL,
- 16:02Speaker 4: not every team is as fortunate as you to have
- 16:04Speaker 4: somebody like that. What about you guys in Carolina having
- 16:07Speaker 4: someone like Andy Dalton who's there just in case of
- 16:10Speaker 4: a worst case scenario.
- 16:12Speaker 6: I mean, I think just from the standpoint of what
- 16:13Speaker 6: you mentioned Steve about being worst case scenario, but I
- 16:16Speaker 6: think more importantly the everyday process of him being a
- 16:19Speaker 6: poor into Bryce from his experience right his exposure for
- 16:22Speaker 6: being in this league for a very long time, how
- 16:25Speaker 6: open Andy is, how he communicates in the media room,
- 16:27Speaker 6: but also given Bryce kind of just subtle tips and
- 16:30Speaker 6: sails on the football field, that was what his overall
- 16:32Speaker 6: development is awesome for us.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So he's been through a lot of games, Andy Dalton,
- 16:38Speaker 1: and he's watched the film the next day with coaching
- 16:42Speaker 1: staffs a lot. Bryce did that for the very first
- 16:44Speaker 1: time after your game on Sunday. If you could take
- 16:47Speaker 1: us Thomas into that room and kind of what that
- 16:50Speaker 1: first film session was like after Bryce's first game, what.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Went down in there.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Well, first off, we're all very disappointing about the outcome
- 16:59Speaker 6: of the game. I think any time we lose a
- 17:00Speaker 6: football game, I've always been a very sole loser, my
- 17:04Speaker 6: mom reminds me from time to time, from the age
- 17:06Speaker 6: I was eight years old up until now. But I
- 17:08Speaker 6: think being able to build upon some of the positive
- 17:10Speaker 6: things we did offensively, but more particularly when it comes
- 17:12Speaker 6: to Bryce and his overall growth, and development. You look
- 17:15Speaker 6: at the tape and talk about the positive takeaways, you
- 17:17Speaker 6: look at how you operate the system from a huddle standpoint,
- 17:20Speaker 6: but also the saline communication I thought was really good,
- 17:23Speaker 6: especially for.
- 17:24Speaker 5: His first opportunity time being out.
- 17:26Speaker 6: But what an opportunity to learn like first week one
- 17:28Speaker 6: have adversity, and what I love about adversity is the
- 17:31Speaker 6: opportunity to be able to take on the challenge to
- 17:34Speaker 6: learn and grow from it. And Bryce is is as
- 17:36Speaker 6: good as as I've been around when it comes to
- 17:39Speaker 6: taking on those challenges.
- 17:41Speaker 4: So when you're when you're game planning, now now that
- 17:43Speaker 4: you've got a baseline right from the game against Atlanta,
- 17:46Speaker 4: now you go through the Saints on Monday night, I mean,
- 17:48Speaker 4: what is Bryce's approach? Because everything we saw in college
- 17:51Speaker 4: was Okay, let's go get it.
- 17:52Speaker 3: We know we did wrong, let's go get it. Kind
- 17:54Speaker 3: of tell us what it's been like. Work with him.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Going into week.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Two, I'm in the exact same way. I think. One
- 17:59Speaker 5: of the things I love about Bryce is his overall
- 18:01Speaker 5: approach back.
- 18:03Speaker 6: We were kind of going through the process of evaluating quarterbacks.
- 18:05Speaker 6: We're on a couple of planes start around the country
- 18:08Speaker 6: to interview quarterbacks, but also watch those guys throw in person.
- 18:12Speaker 6: And so I meet with all the quarterbacks and the
- 18:13Speaker 6: Maximus guys some similar questions, and one of the questions
- 18:16Speaker 6: I ask all the quarterbacks was just take me through. Okay,
- 18:19Speaker 6: the game is done it Saturday night. What's your weekly
- 18:22Speaker 6: process from the time of the game end to the
- 18:24Speaker 6: next game. And so most quarterbacks had probably I would
- 18:28Speaker 6: say ten to fifteen minute response. Right, So we're seventeen
- 18:32Speaker 6: minutes into the and to Bryce answering the question, and
- 18:34Speaker 6: we're still on Tuesday morning, So I think being it
- 18:37Speaker 6: when it comped this overall development, he has a great approach,
- 18:41Speaker 6: a great process towards understanding how to move on past
- 18:43Speaker 6: the game, learn from those mistakes, but also build upon
- 18:47Speaker 6: what he did well as well.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Also, well, Thomas, there was all of you guys on
- 18:52Speaker 1: that plane, on this offensive staff going around. So I
- 18:55Speaker 1: saw a bunch of you guys at Ohio State at CJ.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Shroud's pro day, and you guys were making the round.
- 19:00Speaker 1: With that said, all of these offensive minds you guys
- 19:03Speaker 1: have on this staff, how do you, I guess in
- 19:06Speaker 1: this process with a young quarterback, the number one overall
- 19:09Speaker 1: pick is talented as Bryce is kind of divvy up
- 19:12Speaker 1: who does what? How does it get split way?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Is there a meeting.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Before, like, do you guys devise who handles what? How
- 19:20Speaker 1: does it operate within the staff when you're trying to
- 19:22Speaker 1: mold him early on?
- 19:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't.
- 19:25Speaker 6: The great thing about our setup is that we have
- 19:27Speaker 6: a great operation when it comes to delegating roles and responsibilities.
- 19:30Speaker 5: I think sometimes when it comes to.
- 19:33Speaker 6: Having so much, you know, whether the mental capacity or
- 19:35Speaker 6: experience in one room, depending on who you had, it
- 19:38Speaker 6: can become an issue. We do a great job when
- 19:40Speaker 6: it comes to always checking your ego at the door.
- 19:43Speaker 6: We're all about trying to find ways to figure out
- 19:45Speaker 6: what is right versus who is right. So I think
- 19:47Speaker 6: the collaboration process we have has been amazing.
- 19:50Speaker 5: It's been awesome. I look forward to kind of building
- 19:52Speaker 5: that every day.
- 19:53Speaker 4: And Thomas you talk about, you know, the collaboration forging
- 19:56Speaker 4: a identity. Right, you're a former running back, you've coach run.
- 20:00Speaker 4: What about the run game and how important that is.
- 20:03Speaker 4: It's not only helping Bryce develop, but you guys establishing
- 20:07Speaker 4: what type of character you're going to be Offensively?
- 20:11Speaker 6: Yeah, So I mean we break down offensive identity. So
- 20:14Speaker 6: we talked about this from day one we got back
- 20:16Speaker 6: here in April when our players came in. We broke
- 20:18Speaker 6: it down to kind of three different categories, all right.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Number one was being the physical at every position, and
- 20:24Speaker 6: so you mentioned a running game. Everything starts with that
- 20:26Speaker 6: approach for us. One of the biggest positive takeaway from
- 20:29Speaker 6: our game is that the really good job of being
- 20:31Speaker 6: aggressive attacking running back to the really good job when
- 20:34Speaker 6: it comes to running after running, make a contact after
- 20:38Speaker 6: the ball, kind of from a contact standpoint, fight infective
- 20:40Speaker 6: yards when it comes to the overall development of a
- 20:43Speaker 6: young quarterback, but also offensively in general, everything deals off
- 20:46Speaker 6: of that. You're talking about your play pass, your keepers,
- 20:49Speaker 6: your nakeds, and obviously drive back offense as well.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Tomas, does that playoff of what you?
- 20:56Speaker 5: I mean?
- 20:56Speaker 1: Obviously you look at what everybody else is doing, right,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and everybody kind of sees and steals from one another.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Is it looking at what is a trend in defensive
- 21:04Speaker 1: football in the NFL alters what you want to do
- 21:06Speaker 1: offensively or do you look more at at offensive football
- 21:10Speaker 1: around the NFL and then kind of build it off
- 21:12Speaker 1: that obvious it is off of your personnel but still,
- 21:14Speaker 1: what side of the ball do you look at more
- 21:16Speaker 1: to kind of build that identity what you said.
- 21:19Speaker 6: Last part, the most important thing is you kind of
- 21:20Speaker 6: already mentioned when it comes to understanding your personneling what
- 21:22Speaker 6: you guys do well offensively upfront, quarterback wise or skilled players.
- 21:27Speaker 6: But I mean to me, it's kind of a combination
- 21:29Speaker 6: of both. When you look at trends around the league
- 21:31Speaker 6: from an off of the standpoint defensively, you can get
- 21:34Speaker 6: certain ideas from there from the offensive perspective, but we
- 21:37Speaker 6: kind of hold true to our identity, our philosophy, trying
- 21:39Speaker 6: to build upon every single week, but also doing a
- 21:41Speaker 6: great job of self scout. So once we have a game,
- 21:45Speaker 6: obviously kind of correcting those corrections, but what do we
- 21:47Speaker 6: put on tape? What can we build off of that
- 21:49Speaker 6: kind of our opponents is watching to kind of, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 6: make it more difficult for those guys to defend us
- 21:53Speaker 6: moving forward.
- 21:54Speaker 4: And Thomas, we saw in preseason second half of games
- 21:57Speaker 4: you were calling the place. Frank Reicher said, at some point,
- 21:59Speaker 4: you guys are going to make the transition, whenever that
- 22:01Speaker 4: is this season, next season, whatever, You're gonna be.
- 22:04Speaker 3: The play caller. How do you guys work with that.
- 22:06Speaker 4: How has Frank work with you and when you coach
- 22:08Speaker 4: under Sean McVeigh and maybe teaching you some of the
- 22:11Speaker 4: things and taking your input on some things you guys
- 22:14Speaker 4: can forge when that transition takes place.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Well, one, I've always been a sponge, so have an
- 22:19Speaker 6: opportunity to, like you mentioned before, being in the environment
- 22:21Speaker 6: with so many great minds around us, but the kind
- 22:24Speaker 6: of one on one time with Frank every single day
- 22:26Speaker 6: we kind of put together that game plan and talk
- 22:28Speaker 6: about certain ideas.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Obviously winning on guy like coach call what as well,
- 22:31Speaker 5: who can kind of obviously.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Add advice from his vast experience from a behind the
- 22:37Speaker 6: scenes standpoint, But I think it's about the daily collaboration
- 22:40Speaker 6: and me understanding more about him and kind of vice
- 22:42Speaker 6: versa in combination, will putting out buzzing a pleasant in
- 22:45Speaker 6: the best spot to have success right we cand and
- 22:47Speaker 6: week out.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Tom, I'm fascinated by play callers. I love when guys
- 22:52Speaker 1: say there's so much in the zone. They're not even
- 22:54Speaker 1: looking at the sheet, right, They're just they're just calling it.
- 22:56Speaker 1: But everybody kind of has a different description of it.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Right. Some guys say it's a science. Some guys say
- 23:00Speaker 2: it's an art, some guys say it's a feel. How
- 23:03Speaker 2: would you describe play calling?
- 23:06Speaker 6: I think the biggest part of it is about preparation,
- 23:08Speaker 6: you know, so obviously being able to have a fill
- 23:10Speaker 6: on game is important. Being able to adapt in the
- 23:13Speaker 6: just depending what the opponent is giving is going to
- 23:15Speaker 6: be a big part of you having success on game day.
- 23:17Speaker 6: But it's about what are you doing throughout the week
- 23:20Speaker 6: putting the game and putting the game on from a
- 23:22Speaker 6: game plan standpoint, how you bring it to life More importantly,
- 23:25Speaker 6: how you explain those details to your players, because all
- 23:28Speaker 6: boils down to not how smart you claim to be
- 23:31Speaker 6: a want to be as a play caller, but how
- 23:33Speaker 6: smart are your players? What those guys can activate on
- 23:35Speaker 6: game day?
- 23:36Speaker 4: All right, Thomas, let's take it back when we got
- 23:38Speaker 4: that number twenty on at Uga.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Okay, we're going back to running backs. All the conversation
- 23:43Speaker 3: is off season is our running backs are devalued. But
- 23:46Speaker 3: every week all I hear is how valuable the running
- 23:49Speaker 3: game is?
- 23:51Speaker 4: Right, what is the difference between the value of running
- 23:54Speaker 4: backs and the value of the running game.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Well, Steve, I'll say this, staying in the frustration the
- 24:01Speaker 6: round the league when it comes to some of these
- 24:02Speaker 6: elite players who will continued to produce on a consistent
- 24:05Speaker 6: basis and want to.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Be rewarded for it.
- 24:07Speaker 6: But all can do is speak for us as from
- 24:08Speaker 6: an organization standpoint and our value.
- 24:11Speaker 5: And I went off a guy like.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Miles Sons, for example, who had great value for us,
- 24:15Speaker 6: and people may say from a market value standpoint it
- 24:18Speaker 6: was a little bit higher, but just as far as
- 24:20Speaker 6: how we want to be built identity wise, it was
- 24:22Speaker 6: a perfect fit for us when it comes to how
- 24:23Speaker 6: we're building your system, but also a great for rookie
- 24:26Speaker 6: quarterback as well.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Miles can do it all.
- 24:30Speaker 1: We all know that he can do a lot of
- 24:31Speaker 1: different things as a running back Thomason And so last
- 24:34Speaker 1: one for me is you're going into your second game
- 24:37Speaker 1: with your quarterback. Everybody talks about adversity when things don't
- 24:40Speaker 1: go right for young quarterbacks. How do they bounce back?
- 24:42Speaker 1: How do they respond? What was your take on this week?
- 24:46Speaker 1: What may be instances if there is one that sticks
- 24:49Speaker 1: out to you most about Bryce where you said, oh okay.
- 24:52Speaker 2: This is kind of different than this guy, Well.
- 24:55Speaker 6: I think, to me is what I've seen every single
- 24:56Speaker 6: day and he stepped foot on in his organization. From
- 24:59Speaker 6: a practice standp went preparation wise, Pross.
- 25:01Speaker 2: In the media room.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I mean, he is calm, cool, collective.
- 25:04Speaker 6: But one thing I did see that I love is
- 25:06Speaker 6: obviously from a game play standpoint, just to fire the
- 25:08Speaker 6: emotion of the theme and the solid when it comes
- 25:11Speaker 6: to making players, getting guys going, but obviously wanting to
- 25:13Speaker 6: have the ball in his hands when it counts the most,
- 25:16Speaker 6: so we can definitely build upon when it comes to
- 25:17Speaker 6: our overall operation.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Thomas Brown, offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, thank you
- 25:23Speaker 4: so much. Now that you finished shruggs and shoulders, don't
- 25:25Speaker 4: forget leg Day, Thomas. Your gotta stay balanced, man.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Start every Monday with leg Day.
- 25:31Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about.
- 25:32Speaker 5: The big farm, That's.
- 25:33Speaker 3: What I'm talking about. Thomas, Thank you so much.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Thank you for the time.
- 25:40Speaker 3: He never misses his leg Dare.
- 25:41Speaker 4: That's Brian Baldinger and he's gonna be here later and
- 25:43Speaker 4: tell us about Packers quarterback Jordan Love. The eye and
- 25:46Speaker 4: the sky don't lie, and neither is Brian Baldinger.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the NFL Report, and just like every Thursday,
- 26:03Speaker 1: we're joined by Brian, balding Er and Baldi. We love
- 26:06Speaker 1: that you get to listen to our interviews each and
- 26:08Speaker 1: every week.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And Thomas Brown's breaking down play calling.
- 26:11Speaker 5: I was in.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Foxborough last Sunday watching Brian Johnson go out there and
- 26:15Speaker 1: call plays for the first time in the NFL. I'm
- 26:17Speaker 1: fascinated by play calling, and I know you have an
- 26:19Speaker 1: interest in it too, just in the manner in which
- 26:22Speaker 1: it's done successfully.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Well.
- 26:26Speaker 7: Look, I mean if you look at like, why would
- 26:28Speaker 7: Brian Johnson change what change Psychin did last year with
- 26:32Speaker 7: Jalen Hurts, Like, you know, they're a deep shot team. Okay,
- 26:36Speaker 7: they were a quarterback. You know, you got to count
- 26:38Speaker 7: for him in a run game. They're a power run team.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Like they just do certain things that they're really good at.
- 26:44Speaker 7: And the Patriots do that. And the Patriots had a
- 26:47Speaker 7: good game plan. They were they played a lot of his own.
- 26:50Speaker 7: They clouded all their deep shots that Eagles didn't get
- 26:52Speaker 7: one play down the field the AJ Brown or to
- 26:55Speaker 7: Plant Smith, not one. They averaged five yards you know
- 26:59Speaker 7: an attempt like they should be up around eight yards
- 27:02Speaker 7: in a temp. All right, we're not getting carried away
- 27:04Speaker 7: with stats. But and then they played a five minute
- 27:05Speaker 7: defensive front with one linebacker, and they basically said, okay,
- 27:09Speaker 7: move us off the ball. And those all those mercenaries
- 27:14Speaker 7: up front that played Patriot football, they didn't get moved,
- 27:18Speaker 7: you know, they didn't get moved by Jordan Mulatta and
- 27:20Speaker 7: by Kelsey and Lane. Like they held their ground really well.
- 27:23Speaker 7: They shut down on what was a powerful running game
- 27:26Speaker 7: a week ago. I mean it was it was good
- 27:28Speaker 7: balance what the Patriots did defensively.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Hey, Baldy, the folks are listening to the podcast won't
- 27:33Speaker 4: be able to see it. But you got a pillow
- 27:36Speaker 4: behind you, man, are you like sleeping in the office there?
- 27:39Speaker 5: Bro.
- 27:42Speaker 7: Every once in a while, the eyelid they get heavy
- 27:44Speaker 7: steams and they got a rest just before it, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 7: like in the fifteenth hours. Sometimes you need to sneak
- 27:51Speaker 7: right there. I see it, I see it. That's good
- 27:53Speaker 7: eyes right there by youth peper. Sometimes it was eyelands
- 27:55Speaker 7: get a little heavy, like even two fifth they keep
- 27:58Speaker 7: the eye open, you know.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I mean, this is this is how dedicated you are, Baldy.
- 28:03Speaker 3: But you just talked about that Patrio's defense.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Well, this week they faced a buzz saw of an
- 28:09Speaker 4: offense with the Miami Dolphins. We saw them hang thirty
- 28:12Speaker 4: six on the Chargers. I mean, the passing game layered
- 28:16Speaker 4: all over the place. I know Mike mc daniels said
- 28:18Speaker 4: he wanted to run the ball more, but Jesus man,
- 28:21Speaker 4: it seemed like they were throwing the ball all the
- 28:23Speaker 4: time with routes that could not be denied.
- 28:27Speaker 7: Well, look, I mean Tyreek had you know, one of
- 28:29Speaker 7: those days, okay, And I was just shocked that the
- 28:32Speaker 7: Chargers never adjusted like you got. Like I've seen Bill
- 28:37Speaker 7: Belichick play elite receivers and they will cloud them. I
- 28:40Speaker 7: don't care what the name of the back of the
- 28:42Speaker 7: jersey was. Could have been Chad Johnson back in the day.
- 28:45Speaker 7: You know, they had a cloud over the top. And
- 28:47Speaker 7: this throw right here by Tyreek, Like, where is the
- 28:49Speaker 7: safety over the top on that at thirty five yard touchdown?
- 28:52Speaker 7: This game winner right here, you're gonna put Mike Davis
- 28:54Speaker 7: on him. There was nowhere else that to was going
- 28:58Speaker 7: but to Tyreek. And so like this the first play
- 29:01Speaker 7: the game, I don't know, they're in some kind of
- 29:03Speaker 7: a walk away with Khalil Mack. The safety wasn't sure
- 29:06Speaker 7: if they were going to clamp him in his own
- 29:08Speaker 7: like he.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Was just too wide open all day.
- 29:11Speaker 7: And I just don't believe the Patriots will let that happen.
- 29:14Speaker 7: Like maybe Jalen Wide gets some you know, maybe the
- 29:18Speaker 7: running backs get a few more, but I don't think
- 29:20Speaker 7: Tyreek Hill is going to run wide open and open
- 29:23Speaker 7: freeways up there in Foxborough this week.
- 29:26Speaker 6: There.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I'm curious, aboudy what on the other side of the
- 29:31Speaker 1: coin with the way Mike McDaniel does things in terms
- 29:34Speaker 1: of when he sees this Sunday and you want to
- 29:36Speaker 1: see what Bill Belichick's trying to take away early? What
- 29:40Speaker 1: does he do as an offensive mine to adjust to
- 29:42Speaker 1: to an experienced defensive caller like Bill Belichick.
- 29:46Speaker 7: Well, there's you know, there's formations like how are they
- 29:48Speaker 7: playing informations James, I mean bunch formation. Are they manning
- 29:51Speaker 7: it or they's owning it? You know, there's so many
- 29:54Speaker 7: different factors that you're just sending indicators. You know, is
- 29:57Speaker 7: there gonna be a lot of more pre stat motion
- 30:00Speaker 7: this week? And how the Patriots handled that? They do
- 30:03Speaker 7: the Patriots disguise their motion and tell you that they're
- 30:06Speaker 7: playing man and then play zone off of it. You know,
- 30:09Speaker 7: I thought it was interesting last week Eagles took a
- 30:11Speaker 7: deep shot to AJ Brown and you know it's a
- 30:14Speaker 7: classic to Jalen Hurst and A J. Brown, And there's
- 30:18Speaker 7: Gonzales and Maypou, two rookies that bracketed it. You couldn't
- 30:22Speaker 7: have walked through it on Friday afternoon any better than
- 30:24Speaker 7: they executed it. Mike wants to see that, like, are
- 30:28Speaker 7: they going to bracket our deep shots? Are they going
- 30:30Speaker 7: to cloud it? And if they do, then the underneath
- 30:32Speaker 7: should work, should open? Are they gonna play zone? Are
- 30:35Speaker 7: they gonna mix it up? Are they playing half field
- 30:38Speaker 7: man Halffield zone? Like Mike's looking for all those indicators
- 30:41Speaker 7: and then for any indicator that he sees, He's got
- 30:45Speaker 7: a beater for it, you know, whether it's a man beater,
- 30:47Speaker 7: whether it's flooding the zone. But the good thing is
- 30:51Speaker 7: Tua was so clear in what he was looking at
- 30:55Speaker 7: last Sunday. And people can argue all they want about too.
- 30:59Speaker 7: If that guy going back to Alabama days is mechanically sound,
- 31:03Speaker 7: his feet gets set, and when his feet gets set,
- 31:06Speaker 7: like he makes one stick throw after another like right here,
- 31:10Speaker 7: like in stride, you're gonna get aldiac Like he is
- 31:13Speaker 7: a deadly accurate thrower and his deep ball, like you
- 31:17Speaker 7: can't throw it any better over the top. Now that's
- 31:18Speaker 7: the fourth corner right there.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You know, the Chargers. Why not go after.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Hey, Baldy, speaking about mechanically sound and indicators, Let's go
- 31:27Speaker 4: to Jordan Love because for a couple of years we
- 31:29Speaker 4: heard there was no indication that he was gonna be
- 31:31Speaker 4: able to play.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Quarterback in this league.
- 31:33Speaker 4: And from what we saw in the preseason and his debut,
- 31:37Speaker 4: he looks like he's going to be just fine.
- 31:40Speaker 7: Well, I mean, just think about the receiving card he's
- 31:43Speaker 7: throwing a Jaden Reid their second round pick. Yeah, Romeo
- 31:45Speaker 7: Dobbs the second round you know, for a year or
- 31:48Speaker 7: two right now, that touched the floater to Romeo Dobbs.
- 31:53Speaker 7: All right, just a back shoulder fade in the corner
- 31:56Speaker 7: of the end zone. We've watched far do it for
- 31:59Speaker 7: fifteen years. We want Sharon Rodgers do it for fifteen years,
- 32:02Speaker 7: and we might just watch Jordan Love Jeordan for fifty
- 32:04Speaker 7: because he threw it just the way both those.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Hall of famers threw it.
- 32:08Speaker 7: Yeah, like it was he knew exactly where to put
- 32:10Speaker 7: that ball and let doms go get it, all right.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Baldy, that's really great stuff.
- 32:15Speaker 4: We're gonna make a transition from Jordan Love to the
- 32:18Speaker 4: story of the week and Aaron Rodgers and Baldy we
- 32:20Speaker 4: will see you next Thursday. But here's Rogers post surgery
- 32:25Speaker 4: on IG. Thank you to every person that has reached out,
- 32:27Speaker 4: called Texas DM, connected to a friend, et cetera.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Has met a ton to me and I'll try to
- 32:31Speaker 3: get back to all of you soon.
- 32:33Speaker 4: I'm completely heartbroken and moving through all the emotions, but
- 32:37Speaker 4: deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. Please
- 32:39Speaker 4: keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I begin the
- 32:41Speaker 4: healing process today. The night is darkest before the dawn,
- 32:46Speaker 4: and I shall rise yet again proud of my guys.
- 32:50Speaker 4: One and oh, so Aaron Rodgers does not sound like
- 32:53Speaker 4: his career is gonna.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Be ending getting carted off of a field.
- 32:56Speaker 4: And now we bring in Stacy Dale's who out of
- 32:59Speaker 4: all the people in NFL media staff, I spent the
- 33:02Speaker 4: most time around Aaron Rodgers.
- 33:04Speaker 3: But Sat, I want to get this from your perspective again.
- 33:06Speaker 4: You're your Olympic basketball player, you are a world class
- 33:09Speaker 4: athlete hooper at Oklahoma. An injury like this to someone
- 33:15Speaker 4: like Aaron Rodgers, who again you spent years around at
- 33:18Speaker 4: thirty nine, the coping mechanisms he might have to put
- 33:22Speaker 4: in place or whatever, Like, what can you tell us
- 33:24Speaker 4: about maybe what he's going to have to deal with here?
- 33:29Speaker 3: Yeah, no question.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Good to be with you guys.
- 33:31Speaker 8: And I do have a pillow in the background.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Like Baldy and a dog.
- 33:36Speaker 8: I see with Aaron Rodgers, it was time for him
- 33:40Speaker 8: to move on, right, And you just spoke with Baldy
- 33:44Speaker 8: about Jordan Love and just how efficient he was, and
- 33:46Speaker 8: they've really given him the keys to the to the
- 33:50Speaker 8: jeep if you will. I mean in Green Bay, and
- 33:52Speaker 8: there's got to be something about the water in Green
- 33:54Speaker 8: Bay when you come out and have a performance like that.
- 33:57Speaker 8: But I would just classify this as traumatizing, and Jeff Collette,
- 34:01Speaker 8: the producer, could probably attest as a Packers fan like
- 34:05Speaker 8: traumatizing and devastating for any player to suffer an injury
- 34:10Speaker 8: in the first game, but for it to be Aaron Rodgers,
- 34:12Speaker 8: who will be a first ballot as we all know.
- 34:15Speaker 8: And I can't recall like you and I spoke Steve
- 34:18Speaker 8: this week on the phone, and I just can't recall
- 34:20Speaker 8: a player of this magnitude in Week one, suffering such
- 34:24Speaker 8: a distinct injury, it's and then the questions sort of prevail,
- 34:30Speaker 8: like is this going to be the end of his career?
- 34:32Speaker 2: We were told.
- 34:34Speaker 8: Basically in that post that he gave us all on Instagram. No,
- 34:38Speaker 8: and then Nathaniel Hackett spoke today as well about the
- 34:41Speaker 8: fact that they fully believe, at least there in the
- 34:44Speaker 8: Jets building, that he's going to come back. And that's
- 34:47Speaker 8: going to be I think the most interesting thing because
- 34:50Speaker 8: he's played their injuries in his career. This is achilles injury.
- 34:52Speaker 8: It's unlike you know, other injuries, and it takes a
- 34:55Speaker 8: long time after the surgery to heal and to really
- 34:59Speaker 8: get back your feet again, if you will. But yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 8: it's devastating. It's traumatizing for the team, and I think
- 35:07Speaker 8: we've all learned that given some of the comments and
- 35:09Speaker 8: interviews done this week.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Stasey, I'm curious about the man that's always so closely
- 35:16Speaker 1: tied to Aaron Rodgers, and that's Nathaniel Hackett, And now
- 35:19Speaker 1: that he is there and he is not going to
- 35:21Speaker 1: be working this season with Aaron Rodgers, how much of
- 35:25Speaker 1: a spotlight is there on Nathaniel Hackett now that it's
- 35:28Speaker 1: going to be him and Zach Wilson and not him
- 35:31Speaker 1: and Aaron Rodgers.
- 35:32Speaker 8: I think you nailed it, James, and you were there
- 35:34Speaker 8: obviously for a lot of what took place in Denver
- 35:37Speaker 8: right as he embarked upon his head coach. I was
- 35:39Speaker 8: in the NFL, Yes, you were. He's going to bear
- 35:45Speaker 8: the responsibility fully, and I think you'll have an Aaron
- 35:48Speaker 8: Rodgers who's very involved. Aaron's a coach on the field.
- 35:52Speaker 8: Aaron dictates, as he's done his entire career, so much
- 35:55Speaker 8: of what happens at the line of scrimmage he doesn't.
- 35:59Speaker 8: You could argue, like Tom Brady doesn't need a play call.
- 36:01Speaker 8: He's going to call the game himself. And when you
- 36:04Speaker 8: have that kind of a blankie, it makes your job
- 36:07Speaker 8: as an offensive coordinator a lot easier now, Like it
- 36:10Speaker 8: was really interesting when they were together in Green Bay.
- 36:13Speaker 8: I had some great conversations with coach Hacket. You know,
- 36:17Speaker 8: he runs the stairs before the game, He's out there
- 36:20Speaker 8: about three hours early. Those are the best times to
- 36:23Speaker 8: grab a coach because the game plan's been set all week.
- 36:26Speaker 8: They're finally ready to just go let it rip, and
- 36:28Speaker 8: you know, finding ways to stimulate Aaron Rodgers every single day,
- 36:33Speaker 8: with every single game plan is extraordinary to hear from
- 36:36Speaker 8: the offensive coordinator. So now fast forward, and he's going
- 36:40Speaker 8: to have a great deal of responsibility and making sure
- 36:43Speaker 8: Zach Wilson is capable and in good situations to get
- 36:46Speaker 8: the football out and make sure this team believes in him.
- 36:49Speaker 8: But I'll tell you what if you can run for
- 36:51Speaker 8: one hundred and seventy two.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Yards like they did.
- 36:55Speaker 8: Despite Rogers going down, and you've got Bryce Hall who's
- 36:58Speaker 8: over one hundred on the ground and Delvin Cook, I
- 37:01Speaker 8: would say there, there's the formula to start with. If
- 37:04Speaker 8: you're the New York Jets.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the formula that got them to five and
- 37:08Speaker 1: two at the start of last season. I see some
- 37:09Speaker 1: pause moving around over there. Stacey sleeping dogs.
- 37:13Speaker 5: I know that.
- 37:15Speaker 3: I know that from the streaming.
- 37:17Speaker 1: We're in dreamland right now. She is in dreamland. And
- 37:20Speaker 1: you know who's in dreamland right now? All of Detroit
- 37:23Speaker 1: after they took down the reigning Super Bowl champs in
- 37:26Speaker 1: the first week. Let's hear Dan Campbell after that win
- 37:29Speaker 1: before we get back to Stace.
- 37:31Speaker 9: I didn't learn anything. I got verification on what I
- 37:33Speaker 9: already knew and this is a resilient team. It already
- 37:38Speaker 9: was a resilient team. And we added pieces to that
- 37:40Speaker 9: resilient team. So we're built to handle some some stuff.
- 37:45Speaker 9: And and we did that today against a very good.
- 37:48Speaker 8: Opponent, Motor City Dan.
- 37:55Speaker 2: They didn't do that. Hey, they did do that.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Stays.
- 37:57Speaker 1: How different is that building now with that man and
- 38:01Speaker 1: where they are right now, Stacy, where is that building.
- 38:06Speaker 2: In terms of their mindset?
- 38:09Speaker 8: I am so passionate about this, Like, okay, if you
- 38:12Speaker 8: don't believe in the Detroit Lions, and I'll put my
- 38:14Speaker 8: neck out there for this team. These are a bunch
- 38:18Speaker 8: of ballers when you walk in that building, this is
- 38:21Speaker 8: a group of winners. I mean obviously, you know, we
- 38:24Speaker 8: saw them go on the road. I don't care you know,
- 38:26Speaker 8: No Travis Kelcey, no, Chris Jones. I mean yeah, obviously
- 38:30Speaker 8: those are really incredible players and are going to be,
- 38:34Speaker 8: you know, impactful for the Chiefs this season. But that
- 38:37Speaker 8: is as you know, James, you're there all the time
- 38:39Speaker 8: at Arrowhead, that that environment, that's one hundred and forty
- 38:42Speaker 8: two decibels of noise in your ears. Now here's what
- 38:46Speaker 8: I'll say about Detroit that Ford Field is going to
- 38:49Speaker 8: be obnoxiously loud. So when you cover a game at
- 38:53Speaker 8: Ford Field, they've got an open press bock in press box.
- 38:56Speaker 8: So listeners out there, what does that mean? You guys
- 38:59Speaker 8: know it's the there's no shield, there's no glass, it
- 39:01Speaker 8: is open. So when I do a game there, I
- 39:03Speaker 8: literally have to take my noise reducing headsets or my
- 39:07Speaker 8: ear plugs, and I got to put them in because
- 39:09Speaker 8: it is deafening at that field. And the culture is
- 39:12Speaker 8: really incredible. Jared Goff has been revitalized. He's playing I
- 39:17Speaker 8: wrote it down three hundred and fifty nine pass attempts
- 39:19Speaker 8: with that an interception? Are you kidding me?
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yep?
- 39:22Speaker 8: I mean third long streak. Ever, their rookie has been sensational,
- 39:27Speaker 8: so it's an exciting time in Detroit.
- 39:29Speaker 4: And says the fact they're playing a Seahawks team, it's
- 39:31Speaker 4: gonna be desperate. I just want to know the Blue
- 39:34Speaker 4: Man group. Jaunty Gardner. Johnson's calling for everybody in Detroit
- 39:37Speaker 4: to come in with blue scheme mask. You have five seconds.
- 39:41Speaker 4: If you were there, would you be rocking.
- 39:43Speaker 8: One one hundred a HONDI P one hundred pee?
- 39:47Speaker 3: There we go, There we go Stacey.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Dale's You're gonna be back even decumber yet, we're just
- 39:51Speaker 4: clearing our throats to that you are fantastic.
- 39:53Speaker 3: We love you.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Go pet the dog that's in dreamland right now, because
- 39:57Speaker 4: when we come back to the NFL report, we're gonna
- 39:59Speaker 4: take a deep dive on the Aaron Rodgers effect, and
- 40:02Speaker 4: we're gonna hear from Mike Garrifolo and Judy Batista who
- 40:04Speaker 4: were on hand when things fell apart kind of Monday night.
- 40:18Speaker 10: I feel more for Aaron than anyone, you know, he is.
- 40:23Speaker 10: He's invested so much into this organization, so much into
- 40:26Speaker 10: this journey that he's embarked on and wanting to be
- 40:30Speaker 10: a part of what we've got going here, and how
- 40:33Speaker 10: much he's invested in not only this organization but his
- 40:35Speaker 10: teammates himself. This fan baby.
- 40:42Speaker 1: It was Jet's head coach Robert Salla. Obviously the news
- 40:44Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers were joined. I was watching this game
- 40:47Speaker 1: and the Achilles popping from my couch. Both of these individuals,
- 40:50Speaker 1: and Judy Batista and Mike Carrafulla were there at MetLife
- 40:54Speaker 1: and Mike, I want to know right from the jump,
- 40:56Speaker 1: when you see it happen, do you jump out of
- 40:58Speaker 1: your press box seat. Run me through how you got
- 41:02Speaker 1: to the tunnel and what happened once you were there,
- 41:05Speaker 1: trying to be the intrepid reporter on.
- 41:07Speaker 2: The scene that you are, Mikey g.
- 41:10Speaker 11: Well, when you're in the press boxes, Judy and I
- 41:12Speaker 11: were the first thing that you want to acknowledge. And
- 41:16Speaker 11: if you hear this music, by the way, it's the
- 41:18Speaker 11: music of everybody warming up here before the Eagles Vikings
- 41:21Speaker 11: game is we're getting ready for You want to be
- 41:25Speaker 11: the eyes of the ears of the people who are
- 41:27Speaker 11: watching at home, and they're not getting constant updates. So
- 41:29Speaker 11: as soon as I see the cart headed for the
- 41:31Speaker 11: blue tent, I said, all right, tweat it out.
- 41:32Speaker 3: There's the cart.
- 41:33Speaker 11: And then he leaves on the cart and I said
- 41:35Speaker 11: to Judy that's it. We're not gonna get anything else
- 41:37Speaker 11: from the press box. Let's go down to the tunnel.
- 41:39Speaker 11: We're looking for the X ray room because I have
- 41:41Speaker 11: a strong feeling.
- 41:42Speaker 3: He's headed there.
- 41:43Speaker 11: And I said to Judy, I said, I know where
- 41:45Speaker 11: the giants is. Do the giants have a separate or
- 41:47Speaker 11: did jets have a separate one? And we were trying
- 41:49Speaker 11: to figure that out and Eventually we hit a dead end.
- 41:51Speaker 11: We couldn't walk any further. We said, God must just
- 41:54Speaker 11: be the one X ray room outside the giants locker room.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Let's head back.
- 41:58Speaker 11: So we start heading back that way, and I can
- 41:59Speaker 11: hear on the walkie talkie's of security they're getting ready
- 42:02Speaker 11: for something. I said, Judy, he's coming out any second now.
- 42:05Speaker 11: And all of a sudden, I heard are you ready?
- 42:08Speaker 11: And the guy goes, yeah, they go clear this hallway.
- 42:12Speaker 11: Everybody's got to go inside. I look at you. I go,
- 42:14Speaker 11: these guys got another thing coming. If they think they're
- 42:16Speaker 11: gonna tell us to go inside, Judy's like absolutely. So
- 42:21Speaker 11: then the cart comes by me and I start taking video,
- 42:25Speaker 11: and if you can see, at the end of the video,
- 42:27Speaker 11: the gentleman tries to jump in front of me to
- 42:29Speaker 11: block the video, which was hysterical, and then his supervisor
- 42:32Speaker 11: comes over and says, excuse me, what are you doing?
- 42:35Speaker 11: I said, what do you mean? He goes, you're taking video?
- 42:36Speaker 11: I said I know, I am, and he goes, why
- 42:38Speaker 11: are you doing that? I showed up my put paths
- 42:40Speaker 11: and I said for information distribution purposes. He goes, but
- 42:45Speaker 11: are you allowed to do that? And I said yes,
- 42:49Speaker 11: and he goes but ethically, I said, I'm not worried
- 42:51Speaker 11: about ethically, I'm worried about journalistically. Yes, So I tweeted
- 42:55Speaker 11: the video out and the rest was history.
- 42:56Speaker 12: Hey, on to the fourth of State and Mike Carrofolo
- 42:58Speaker 12: for the hustle, Judy Miyo. Mike was there in the
- 43:02Speaker 12: tunnels doing his job like the A one reporter he was,
- 43:04Speaker 12: And by the way, postgame, he absolutely killed the grasping
- 43:08Speaker 12: of the emotions from pregame to you know, the injury,
- 43:11Speaker 12: to the actual celebration of a win. But Judy, you
- 43:13Speaker 12: were there the following day with the Jets moving forward. Now,
- 43:18Speaker 12: what is kind of the feeling is that, Okay, everybodbody
- 43:20Speaker 12: else you have to gird Zach or is he really
- 43:23Speaker 12: our guy?
- 43:26Speaker 13: I don't know if they're talking themselves into it, but yesterday,
- 43:29Speaker 13: which was the first time that the team was gathered
- 43:31Speaker 13: since then, you know, he is their guy and they're
- 43:35Speaker 13: going to line up behind him. Frankly, they don't really
- 43:37Speaker 13: have much of a choice.
- 43:38Speaker 5: He's right now.
- 43:39Speaker 13: He is certainly their best option. He knows the offense,
- 43:42Speaker 13: he's been there, and they all talked about how improved
- 43:45Speaker 13: he has been since OTA's and training camp. So I
- 43:48Speaker 13: think the message had come from Sala, like, Okay, you
- 43:51Speaker 13: had like the forty eight hours to sort of mourn
- 43:54Speaker 13: this injury, and now you've got the Dallas Cowboys and
- 43:57Speaker 13: you've got sixteen games and you're one to zero, and
- 43:59Speaker 13: so it's time to get ready. With Zach Wilson. You know,
- 44:03Speaker 13: Dalvin Cook, who is like basically the newest member of
- 44:06Speaker 13: the New York Jets. I thought I had the most
- 44:09Speaker 13: interesting balance of emotions because he was a little bit wistful.
- 44:12Speaker 13: He said he had come there hoping to get a
- 44:14Speaker 13: handoff from eight, he said, from a great Obviously that's
- 44:17Speaker 13: not going to happen this year. But then he said,
- 44:19Speaker 13: like Zach knows, we've got his back, like we've all
- 44:22Speaker 13: got to play better for Zach. And then he talked
- 44:25Speaker 13: again about how much confidence he has, which is a
- 44:28Speaker 13: big thing for the Jets because last year that was
- 44:30Speaker 13: a shattered quarterback and so the fact that he's got
- 44:33Speaker 13: confidence in himself and that the team around him has
- 44:37Speaker 13: confidence him is a big, big deal if this is
- 44:40Speaker 13: going to work.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Mike, I want to ask you about that shattered quarterback.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Have the Jets looked elsewhere. Yet I'm assuming that started
- 44:49Speaker 1: and he'd look at a backup, a veteran backup. What
- 44:52Speaker 1: are their options around Zach Wilson.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Yeah, backup is.
- 44:58Speaker 11: The key word, because they don't want to bring anybody
- 45:00Speaker 11: that anybody else would be clamoring for, any of the
- 45:03Speaker 11: fans would be clamoring for. They want to make it
- 45:05Speaker 11: clear that Zach Wilson's got a clear runway here, So
- 45:08Speaker 11: any of the options would be uninspiring for the starting extent,
- 45:11Speaker 11: but not that there are any inspiring ones. Jet Sores
- 45:14Speaker 11: told me here immediately, Zach Wilson gives us the best
- 45:17Speaker 11: chance to win, so they definitely want to make sure
- 45:20Speaker 11: that he's got his right mind about him. Right now,
- 45:23Speaker 11: they're going to elevate Tim Boyle from the practice squad.
- 45:25Speaker 11: They've got three elevations that they're allowed to do before
- 45:28Speaker 11: they have to add him to the roster permanently. So
- 45:30Speaker 11: wouldn't be surprised if Zach Wilson is the only quarterback
- 45:33Speaker 11: on the active roster, perhaps for the next couple of
- 45:36Speaker 11: weeks while they bounce Boiled back and forth, and then
- 45:38Speaker 11: maybe add another long term sinus.
- 45:40Speaker 4: All right, Michael Judy, we know you guys are on
- 45:42Speaker 4: the clock, So look to Mike Gara follow for talking
- 45:44Speaker 4: through the sound checks. That is a very difficult part
- 45:47Speaker 4: of the things that we have to do. So props
- 45:49Speaker 4: my brother Judy great cooms at credit cale dot com
- 45:52Speaker 4: slash Batista, So make sure to check out the column
- 45:55Speaker 4: on the Jets' future and JP that Aaron Rodgers' injury
- 45:59Speaker 4: has sparked a new conversation about artificial turf versus grass.
- 46:04Speaker 4: So when we come back on the NFL report, what's
- 46:07Speaker 4: it going to be like underguy's feet.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Well before it.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Back in the NFL report, and Aaron Rodgers' injury sparked
- 46:24Speaker 4: another huge debate, JP, and that is to turf or
- 46:28Speaker 4: to have natural grass. As the NFL PA came out
- 46:31Speaker 4: and said that all fields should be natural grass. David Botiari,
- 46:36Speaker 4: the left tackle for the Packers during the game, said,
- 46:38Speaker 4: this is another incident of artificial turf leading to an injury.
- 46:44Speaker 3: But JP, we've heard the discussion. We know it's not
- 46:47Speaker 3: going to happen.
- 46:48Speaker 4: There are some teams that are just not going to
- 46:51Speaker 4: put in natural grass. It could be to climate, it
- 46:53Speaker 4: could be to a dome.
- 46:54Speaker 3: There's no natural.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Grass going in Mercedes Benz in Atlanta or the super
- 46:57Speaker 4: Dome in New Orleans. So this is going to be
- 47:00Speaker 4: a continued debate, James, And so to tell people really
- 47:05Speaker 4: about it, we're thinking about stadiums a lot when it
- 47:08Speaker 4: comes to artificial term for grass.
- 47:10Speaker 3: But this is practice.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Fields, this is indoor facilities as well. There's a lot
- 47:15Speaker 4: more to it than just natural grass at stadiums.
- 47:19Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I was at Broncos when Russell Wilson talked about this
- 47:23Speaker 1: this week and it was actually, I don't know, maybe
- 47:25Speaker 1: it's a rarity, a very honest moment from Russell Wilson
- 47:27Speaker 1: where he took a stance Dave.
- 47:29Speaker 2: He had an opinion.
- 47:30Speaker 1: He said, specifically practice He wants to be on grass
- 47:33Speaker 1: fields for his ankles, for his knees. He brought up
- 47:36Speaker 1: the indoor facility that the Broncos have and it's a
- 47:38Speaker 1: newer endoor facility that they have. And if that doesn't
- 47:40Speaker 1: show you the way veteran players that we talk to
- 47:43Speaker 1: Steve around the league feel about indoor practice facilities. Usually
- 47:46Speaker 1: if there's weather or something that happens, the team has
- 47:48Speaker 1: to go indoors. There is every veteran on the team
- 47:51Speaker 1: that is throwing on the sneakers and they are like,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I am done for today. I am doing a walkthrough.
- 47:56Speaker 1: That is the extent of what I'll do on this
- 47:58Speaker 1: indoor practice facilit That's usually what happens yep, during the week.
- 48:02Speaker 1: It's funny that that's their thinking, right Steve. But at
- 48:05Speaker 1: the same time, then on Sunday they're going to go
- 48:07Speaker 1: out and play on a turf field. And you brought
- 48:10Speaker 1: this up earlier their first instance into the NFL as
- 48:13Speaker 1: a young prospect, that the NFL combine is on what surface.
- 48:16Speaker 4: It is not on natural grass, it is on turf,
- 48:19Speaker 4: I mean, and that's part of it. And this is
- 48:21Speaker 4: where Joe Burrow, JP and you were talking about this
- 48:24Speaker 4: when he came out to if we're going to have turf,
- 48:26Speaker 4: it should be universal turf at all of those sites idea,
- 48:30Speaker 4: And speaking with the NFL, it is up to each
- 48:32Speaker 4: individual team on which turf manufacturer they want to use
- 48:36Speaker 4: for their stadiums and for their practice facility.
- 48:38Speaker 3: So that is a good idea by Joe Burrow. Why
- 48:40Speaker 3: don't you elaborate.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that Joe came up with that idea,
- 48:44Speaker 1: considering he's a guy that's also had an ACL in
- 48:46Speaker 1: the past, right, and also is somebody that spends a
- 48:48Speaker 1: lot of time on the turf depending on how his
- 48:50Speaker 1: offensive line plays. But having a universal turf from field
- 48:54Speaker 1: to field, at least in his mind, would give players
- 48:57Speaker 1: an understanding of what they're going to be playing on
- 49:00Speaker 1: and a knowledge before they get to that game on
- 49:03Speaker 1: what playing surface they're going to be playing on. But
- 49:05Speaker 1: again we'll find out if that happens. There's a lot
- 49:07Speaker 1: that goes on in these stadiums moving forward in different
- 49:09Speaker 1: types of events, monster trucks, all sorts of stuff. Steve,
- 49:13Speaker 1: it was a pleasure. I'm going to see you Monday.
- 49:15Speaker 1: We'll recap some Week two games on the NFL Report.
- 49:19Speaker 2: See you guys on Monday,
