- 0:00SPEAKER_01: The worst thing you can do is get away from God's people.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Like once you're alone and away from God's people, uh, we aren't meant to be alone.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: So then what are we gonna do?
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: We don't want to be with God's people because we know the conviction and the shame and all this type of stuff, and we don't want to have to deal with that.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: But you don't want to be alone and isolate yourself.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: So guess guess who you're gonna go to?
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: The background.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Who accepts what you did and they start telling you, oh, it's okay.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: No, it's the the worst place you can be is away from believers.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I got it again, personal experience.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: And I hate that I have this personal experience, but it's personal.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: The reality.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: The reality.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the reality is podcast, where we're here to talk about real life and real faith.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: My name is Joey.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: This is Richard, and man, last week you really hurt a lot of feelings, and I believe you're gonna do the same thing this week.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: But before we get started, would you guys do us a favor, like, subscribe, share this with your friends, and ring the bell so you aren't missing any episodes of the Reality Is Podcast, because this has been a series that you have been going through, and we're only on the fourth one.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: We've got one more after this to still do, and I don't want you guys missing out because I believe this content has been so rich, so deep, and so revealing, I guess is the word I would choose to use because you aren't just listening.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: If you're if you're really paying attention to the things that you've been saying, it's opening up your heart and your mind, and you're checking yourself and you're looking in a mirror and saying, Oh, how do I, how do I judge what you guys have been saying in my own life?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Not just looking at other people and going, oh, yeah, that person's like this, yeah, that person's like that.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: If you look in the mirror and you go through the steps that you've been talking about, how do you see yourself?
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Which brings us to the one you wanted to talk about this week.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Are you concealing that or are you confessing that?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Because those are really the only two choices you have, right?
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: There are no other choices.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: I I do want to make a clarifying statement, though, as we start here.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: You keep saying I offend everyone.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: You do that there are two people on this podcast.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: And and uh, you know, uh but anyway, we'll move on.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, sure.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Um Hey, go in the comment section to tell you tell us who offends you more.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: Joey, Jay.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: So you know, over the last several weeks, we we have talked about how sin sneaks into your life, right?
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: It it doesn't come typically like a freight train, right?
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: It just comes in like a breeze, man.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: It just sort of finds its way in, and the next thing you know, it it owns you.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So the the question is not if we're going to sin.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: The question is what are we going to do when we sin?
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Uh and there's only two responses, like you said.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I I can either try to conceal it, which by the way is a losing adventure, or I can confess it and and let God have it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Don't you always go back to the one that says, be sure your sin will find you.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Every time.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: You always let us know that one.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: So you know, we have a choice, and and in that choice we we will be found out, as you say.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: And so what what do we do with that?
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: Our natural tendency is not toward repentance.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: And and people need to understand that.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: We all know that, right?
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: It's not like that's a revelation that they're going, wow, I never thought about that.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: And the the the natural tendency is not to confess, it's it's not to repent, it's not to remove it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Because we like it there.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: And and if we didn't like it there, we wouldn't do it.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: And and so, and if we didn't like it, the enemy wouldn't tempt us with it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: And and so what we have to realize is is is we have these choices.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: So what do we do?
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Do we confess it or or do we just try to excuse it away and and hold on to it?
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and repent from it.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: I know we've talked about it before with David, and what I loved about David is hey, once he realized, like, look, the brother sinned.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: The brother, he knew how to sin.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: And and even after it, you know, he was like, Oh my goodness, I've sinned.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: The first thing he did was repent of it.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And and and that's the heart of what I think you're trying to get people to realize hey, you're gonna sin, you're gonna do bad things, right?
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Repent from it.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't like, okay, well, after that, David didn't sin again.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: No, he sinned again.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: And then it was revealed to him what he did.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And then he immediately went to the Lord and said, Man, I'm so sorry.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I'm a sinner.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: And and that's where we have to be, you know.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: So when we talk about sin, and let's let's talk about some of our responses to it first, right?
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: And and our first response to sin is typically to try to hide its existence, all right?
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: And and a great place to begin to look at that, and we want to spend a little bit of time just looking at the Genesis chapter three and look at the account of of Adam and Eve and the first sin.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, many times we refer to Genesis three as the story of the first sin, which is true, all right, but it's also the story of the first guilty conscience.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: It it it is the first time, obviously, that they had a guilty conscience about what they had done, and now they had to decide what am I going to do about what I have done.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: So what do we do?
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: What did they do?
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: They they began a process not of repentance, but they began a process of trying to hide the existence of what happened.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And that's so true in our own lives.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: My goodness.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I I see that with with myself.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I see that with other people, you know.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Like, how do I hide this?
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: So that nobody knows.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Well, when you when you read the story, it right, uh Satan asked Eve, you know, right, had did God indeed say it?
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: And and Eve began to ponder, and and then as we look at that, we know that she realized that it was good for the eye and and that you know it was good to eat, right?
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: And so she took it and she gave it to her husband.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and so, but it all began with this whole idea of entertaining it, and as they entertained it, then we come down to Genesis 3, 7, after the fruit had been consumed, and and then it says, then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: And so prior to this, uh there had been no guilt, there had been no conscience, there had been no problems, right?
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: But sin opened their eyes, and when their eyes were opened, what's the first thing they did?
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: They went to go find some fig leaf and cover themselves.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: And and I have heard, I I don't know, I've never touched a fig leaf, but I've heard they are not comfortable.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: No, I would I would assume not, you know.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: But that but see, and and so I hear that, and I think just as you're saying it, and I think about a fig leaf, I go, they're that desperate.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: They're absolutely that desperate.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: What can I do?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, this this feels terrible, and instead of just uh admitting something, no, I'm gonna hide, but I'm still gonna hide in this terrible feeling.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: And that's not a place you want to be either.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: But we're that willing to hide what we did wrong that we'll make ourselves uncomfortable.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: No, and and we have to remember figs leaf fig leaves never fix the problem.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, their conscience was telling them what their hearts already knew.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Something was broken and and they had to do something about it.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: And so they decided to fix it on their own.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Because we historically have chosen self-salvation over God's plan of repentance.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Uh and so instead of knowing that we've already violated what God said do, they immediately went into cover-up mode.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Guilty.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all of us, you know, let me let me hide this.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Let me let me see what I can do to cover this up.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: And and so that's that's where they were at.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: We we do that all the time in our own lives.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Like there's just so many times where we will get into something and then recognize what we did was wrong.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Well, right?
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: We recognize it.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: And then we say, but I'm just gonna cover it up.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: And that's never helped.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Well, I I would argue many times we we use the fig leaves of religion to to cover up sin.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: So we go through religious activity.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: We we we we come to church, we we go through the motions and we say the right things, but we go home unchanged.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: I told you he was gonna offend somebody.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Well, you know.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: I told you he was going to offend.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: I'm reading what you wrote.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, god, you know.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: It's so true.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: And I know a few weeks ago, like I got really frustrated about that myself.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Because it is just the truth.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: It it is, and so it becomes a fig leaf for us.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: We we hide behind, we know the right things to say.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we know the right things to do publicly in the view of others.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Goes to last week of me saying, hey, we can put on a mask for a couple of hours.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: I I can I mean, I can say the right things, but that certainly doesn't make it right.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, and so it becomes a fig leave.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: And uh now notice what happens, okay.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: So they they sewed fig leaves together, right?
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: And and they had the guilty conscience.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: And then the next thing we find is God came as was his practice in the cool of the evening, and they hid themselves.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: You know, hiding from God is impossible.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: Out of two people that should have known that, right?
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: And and God said, Adam, where are you?
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, where are you?
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: You know, and and Adam said, Well, I'm I'm hiding, you know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: And and he said, Why?
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: And he said, Well, we were naked and ashamed, and who told you, who told you he was naked, right?
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: You can't hide from God, and and so when we're talking about this confess or conceal, we we try all the time.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: We act as if we're hiding it from God.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and there's no way to do that, and and again, you can't hide it from people that know you either.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: No, and that's the problem.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: People know what's up with you, oh, every time.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: And and you know, when we when we stop and we think about the way we hide our sin, right?
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Adam had always had fellowship with God.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: Notice as as Genesis tells us, God came in the cool of the evening to walk with Adam as was his custom.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, you can't tell me that Adam didn't look forward to that every day.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: Every day, you know, Eve, we gotta hurry up with dinner here.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: Lord's coming.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, God's about to come, man.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: And and but I want you to notice sin changed his view and his anticipation of God.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: And and so now that his eyes were opened, he wasn't looking forward to God coming to the garden.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And that's true in our own lives.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Once we do something, it's like, oh, how do I avoid God instead of going to God?
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And what a spiritual place that that that's a devastating place to be, to say, oh, now I've got to run from him instead of running to him.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: And and as you said a moment ago, it's the people in our life, right?
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so it's not just that we avoid God, we avoid people who will expose what's in our life.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: That's exactly it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: And and I get it out of guilt, out of shame.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: And that's why you've got to have somebody that you know you really trust and those type of things.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: But we have said that in plenty of podcasts before.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Find somebody, find a few people in your life that you can just be straight with, that you know won't judge you or convict you, but they will speak truth into your life and let you know, hey man, let's let's get this right.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: And the greatest tragedy that we're looking at right now is as we see that they tried to hide from God.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: The tragedy is not that God quit pursuing them, the tragedy is they quit pursuing God.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: God came as was his custom.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: He knew they'd eaten the fruit.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: He already knew all of it.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: And but he still came as was his custom.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: And and the tragedy was they quit pursuing God.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: And and so, you know what?
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: Hiding, hiding from ourselves, if you will, will end in conviction every time.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: And so when we find ourselves trying to hide from God, trying to hide from sin, trying to hide from ourselves, um, it'll end the conviction in our life.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't you can't do that, man.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Please hear this with open ears and an open heart.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Don't run from God.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Don't run from the love.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Run to it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Even though you did something wrong, even though you know you feel bad, you're guilty, you're ashamed of it, run to it.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Because there is restoration waiting to happen.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, what what happened right afterwards?
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: God did a loving act for them and gave them something actually comfortable to put on.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: All right, take take that uncomfortable stuff off, which again, spiritually, is what we do.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: We're gonna be uncomfortable in what we're doing, and and as long as we aren't running to God, we're gonna stay uncomfortable in our fig leaves.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: But once they got to God, and God said, Okay, let me actually give you something more comfortable.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah, what you did was wrong.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: He did not say, It's okay.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: What you did was wrong.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: There's consequences for what you did, and it was wrong.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: But let me still come alongside of you and comfort you in that time.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: And when God came to the garden, they had a choice confession or or to try to hide it, right?
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Confession or conviction.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, conviction will always lead to excuses.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: And so the very next day, very next thing.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Adam, what did you do?
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Wasn't my fault.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Hey it was that woman, bro.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: It was that woman.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: And it's still that woman.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, and and and so it was Adam said, God, it's not my fault.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: And but it wasn't just that woman, it was the woman you made.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, he blamed God for doing it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: You know, if if you've done that too many times.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Lord, you're you're the one that started this, right?
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: And then Eve, what did you do?
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Well, it wasn't me, it was that serpent.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: We always try to excuse away our conviction.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: Yes, we do.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: And so it's it's not my fault.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: I was born this way.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: It's not my fault.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: The person said which made me, right?
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: And so it's never our fault.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: And so we either can confess it or we can live with a conviction, and the conviction is gonna lead to our excuses of trying to explain it away.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: And being uncomfortable in the process the whole time, every time it's living in uncomfort, right?
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Gosh, I people who live with lies, right?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Like now they're constantly trying to keep up with the life, they're uncomfortable.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Now they're always looking over their shoulder and they're trying to keep up with it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Stop.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Get over all that and say, all right, look, let me just lay it all out.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Let me lay it all out.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Great, you've laid it all out.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Now let's work on a path forward to help you.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Well, and and the problem is is we think we're hiding stuff, right?
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: And and the only person we're deceiving is ourselves.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Is yourself.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: And and it it's amazing at the the way that that we've tried to defend ourselves, and and the whole time it's because we know what we're saying is either wrong or we know that our life is wrong, and and and we keep trying to do this.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: And so it it gets us there every time.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Every time, and that's why you're so uncomfortable in it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: And and so we remain silent instead of confessing, we remain silent with God.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: David said in Psalm 32 in verse 3, uh, again, talking about his sin with Bathsheba, he said, When I kept silent, my gro my bones grew old through my groaning all day long.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Now, he's not talking about I didn't talk.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: He's saying I kept silent in my relationship with God.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: I kept silent in my confession, and my bones grew old, man.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: It was just so hard on me to try to live like that.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: It really tears you down.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Look, I I'm I say this from experience.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: I wish I couldn't say it from experience.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I say it from experience when you're hiding things, and then just saying, I'm not gonna, I'm I'm not gonna deal with God anymore.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And then you start thinking, because this is the enemy getting to your head, and God doesn't want to deal with me anymore.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: That's a lie.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: That's a lie.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: It just weighs on you so heavy.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Like it's just it's tearing you down.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Thankfully, I've always had loving people in my life that could come and get me out of that pit, but but you're doing it, I was doing it to myself.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: And if you're listening to me, and if you're saying, oh yeah, I'm not you're doing it to yourself.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Just stop, get it off, just get it off your chest, lay it out.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: You know, and and we go back, no one made Eve eat the apple.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Uh we call it the apple, the fruit, right?
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no one made Adam.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: It was a choice, oh yeah, right?
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: And and and so as we stop and we realize that we we can say all day long, it it this person made me, or this made me, or this create.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: No, it everything is a choice, yeah.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: And our choices have consequences.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: And and so hiding our sin is not a solution.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: And so we see where they tried to hide it.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: They tried to they tried to hide it from God.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was not a solution.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: We see where David tried to hide it, it was not a solution.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: We we can go through scripture over and over and see where the attempts to hide scripture was never a solution to this.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: And and at least especially when you're talking about in the Genesis account, hiding themselves, David, hiding the like the worst thing you can do is get away from God's people.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Like, once you're alone and away from God's people, we aren't meant to be alone.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: So then what are we gonna do?
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: We don't want to be with God's people because we know the conviction and the shame and all this type of stuff, and we don't want to have to deal with that, but you don't want to be alone and isolate yourself.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: So guess guess who you're gonna go to?
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: The background, right?
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Who accepts what you did and they start saying, oh, it's okay.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: No, it's the the worst place you can be is away from believers.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I got it again, personal experience, and I hate that I have this personal experience, but it's personal.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Well, we we cut ourselves out from other believers because we're afraid they'll find out, but yet we cut ourselves out and it becomes very evident, right?
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: And so all we're doing is confirming instead of hiding, and and we lose that.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: And and James tells us that's not the process.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: In fact, James says accountability is the key.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: He says, confess your trespasses to one another, accountability, pray for one another that you may be healed.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: And and and so he's reminding us that hiding from sin is never the answer to what we're dealing with.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: No, and and and that's a decision, that's a choice.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Again, last week we were talking about mind and and and how things can get in that mind and keep you from doing this is a choice that you have to make.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: You need to be the one to say, I am gonna do this.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I nobody did it for me.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: No one like I had to make that choice to say, okay, I've gotta I've gotta stop separating myself from these people, and I definitely gotta stop hanging out with these people.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: I definitely gotta stop sitting in this room by myself because all I'm doing is thinking about the the things that I did, and all he's doing is tearing me down.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: I need that hope, I need that restoration, I need that repentance.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, let me the choice that I made to do that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: And you know, again, Adam hiding in the garden, and God called out, where are you?
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Right where you at, bro?
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: And as we stop and we look at this, and and and I want us to catch, and and we've said it a couple of times, but instead of confessing, Adam defended himself.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he sure did.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Right, and and so he was attempting to conceal the sin.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: And so what are some of the most common ways I I think we we can look at our our world today and say these are some of the most common ways, but they're also the most common ways throughout history, I would argue.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: And I think first of all, we attempt to rename sin.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: You know, we uh as one author put it, uh when when we try to change God's dictionary, it's always headed in a bad direction.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sure is.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: It sure is.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Renaming sin is probably the most common thing that most people do.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Because I think here's the problem.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: People don't want to use the word sin.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: They don't want to call themselves a sinner.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: So now it's just I've got to I've got to accept it.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: And no, let's call it what it is, bro.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Put it out there, let the truth be the truth.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: What you did is sin.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: It's called sin.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: You are a sinner, but there's hope for that.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: It's okay, and so you know, I'm I'm not prideful, I'm confident.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm not greedy, I'm ambitious.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: I don't gossip, I just I just want to pray for you.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I'm not bitter, I'm just hurt.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, lust, I'm just appreciating beauty.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: We talked about that, right?
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Dishonesty.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I left out a few details.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, don't all pastors exactly.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Um, we rename it to try to make it okay.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: But I mean you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: You take the same logic we do with sin and you take it to any other thing in life.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna bring a bottle of of poison in here and and I'm gonna put it in an orange juice bottle.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna drop a little flavoring in, a little food color in it, to turn it orange, and I'm gonna give it to you to drink.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Are you?
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: If I think it's orange juice, I'm gonna drink it.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: But if you if you told me, hey, here's some poison that looks like there's no way in the world I'm drinking.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: It's in an orange juice bottle and it's because I know it's poison.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I know it's going to kill me.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: But it's orange.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: I know it's orange.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: But why do we do sin that way?
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: We rename it, we recolor it, we we make it look different, and then we try to argue.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: What a true statement.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: You know, and so the first thing we do is we rename it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: And Isaiah said it this way: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: And doesn't that describe our culture?
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Boy, are we doing that nowadays.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: There's so many things out there that's evil, and society has called it good.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: That's so good.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: But there are things that are really good and people doing good.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so evil.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: How could you do that?
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding me?
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Man, we flipped it.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: Exactly, all the way.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: And then we we compare our sin to others, right?
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: And and we've talked about this, man.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: That's that's our favorite, right?
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: I just have to find somebody I'm a little better than.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: And when I find somebody I'm a little better than, I don't it eases my conscience because okay, I'm not the best person in the world, but I'm certainly not that person.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: I could say that about a lot of people.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Well, that doesn't make me better.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: But in my mind, I'm gonna claim to be better.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: It doesn't make me better.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: But wasn't that Adam's argument?
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: It's exactly it really wasn't me.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: It was I'm better than her.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, she's the one that started it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: And wasn't that Eve's argument?
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: It wouldn't really wasn't me, it's him.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: It was that serpent, right?
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: And so as we think about that, we find a great story of that in scripture where the Pharisee and went into the temple to pray.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: And the publican or the sinner came into the temple.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: The Pharisee in his prayer said, Lord, I thank you that I'm not like other people.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: And so he goes through all the stuff he does, and then he actually says, I want to thank you, I'm not like him.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: And and oh, how hero.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: And and then the sinner simply said, God be merciful to me, a sinner.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: And the Lord said, Now which one of these went home justified?
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: And so you can you can rename it all day long.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: You you can justify it all day long, you can compare all day long, and it's still sin.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Problem is you share that story, you share that Bible verse, and outside people looking in, reading that go, oh, how dare that guy! Oh, he's so, man, that guy is evil.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Remember, we talked about before, you better be looking in the mirror.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Because that's you.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: You're the one comparing yourself to everybody else, saying, at least I'm not like so-and-so, at least I'm not doing so-and-so.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I didn't do okay, hold on now.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Hold on, watch itself.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: You sound a lot like this person that you're calling bad.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: And so, so we love to compare, but we also love to blame others, right?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: And so if if I can find someone else to take at least part of the responsibility for my sin, then then I I don't have to carry the full load of the guilt.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: And so what I need to do is I I need to put myself in a position to be able to say, well, I wouldn't have if they had.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh, yes.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: It's real easy for me to do that all the way.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Well, the only reason I'm upset is because you did this to me.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be bitter if you just apologize.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, so watching watching movies.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: This is got it's just gotten my wife and I like furious because they're recreating movies of old characters, right?
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to give out anything, any details, but you'll probably figure out I'm talking about.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: But in these new movies, it's the origin of the story of why they became bad.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: And so now we're supposed to sympathize for these people who were bad because this is the reason they became the evil this or the wicked that.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: And it's like because of their past.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Look, just stop it.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: Stop it.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: I ain't blaming anything on my past, I'm not blaming anything on my childhood, I'm not blaming just stop it with these new movies that are trying to say the reason they're so bad is because of their stop it.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Because this is what we have done.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Talk about movies getting into your mind.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: You've talked about this before and how it's shaping us and trying to influence us.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Now we've got a whole generation of people going, well, you know, because of the way I grew up, and oh, because of my past, and it's not my fault I'm this way because stop it.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Just call it what it is.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: You're doing even if you did have please hear me.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: I am not negating a bad past.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I'm not negating that.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: I have watched so many people with bad past, but I've also watched them overcome with the power of Christ.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: And if you would just turn to who you're supposed to turn to instead of making excuses for being the way you are, we can stop all of that.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Well, James 114, each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires, right?
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: And so it I can't blame someone else.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: It's it's the desires of my heart that become the problem.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: And then I would argue that we minimize the consequences of our sin.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: You know, we can sell it by statements like, well, it was just one time, right?
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: It's only a little compromise, okay?
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: It's not like I nobody got hurt.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, really?
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: Why are you so upset?
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: It's not like anybody got hurt.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Um, and then of course, our favorite one is I can stop anytime I want to.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Well, we minimize the consequences of what we're up against.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we we I I remember sharing the story before.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: We talked about and laughed about this one.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: People who come to know Christ, who come to know the Lord, they get saved, they're on this brand new path for Jesus.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna keep this one aside for a day.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: What, dude?
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Like, what turn it over, get rid of it all, dude.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Like, so again, conviction for me, you know, I get saved and everything, but we've talked about this before.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: There are some CDs that I'm still listening to and I'm still jamming to.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: And you know, instead of just throwing the whole thing out, going, you can't be listening to that no more.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Like, you need to stop that.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, okay.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: And so then I remember the conviction.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm listening to this song.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm going through all my discs.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, throw away, throw away, throw away, throw away.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, I really like that one.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Throw away.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Why are you holding on to that one?
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: Stop it.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: No, stop.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: It literally says parental guidance, explicitly.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Like it says it right there on the thing.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: And you just want to keep that one aside for the day where you want to jan.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: No, get rid of it all.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Stop putting things aside, man.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Just say, done with it.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: Well, again, James says we're drawn away by our own desires in verse 14.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Then he hits verse 15 and he says, when desire is conceived, it gives birth to sin.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Sure does.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: So that desire leads to sin.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: And it says, and then when sin is full grown, leads to death.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: And so we downplay the consequences, even though scripture is clear.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Once we get trapped in this, it's it's the consequence is death.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's that's that could be spiritual death, that could be the death of a reputation, that could be a number of things.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: And so we have to realize listen, David didn't begin with adultery.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: He began with a look, right?
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: Judas didn't begin by betraying Christ, he began with greed.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Peter didn't deny Christ three times until he became self-confident.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Christ said, Peter, this is what's gonna happen.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Peter said, May happen to them, it won't happen to me.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: It ain't gonna happen to me.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: And and so was at the time.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: I ain't like those other people.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, watch what you're about to become like.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: And and then I would argue that we resist the correction for our sin.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: And this we've talked about, you know, Proverbs 27, verse 6 says, Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: You know, it's that person that says to you, man, it ain't your fault.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, he shouldn't have pushed you like that, and they shouldn't have said that, or or it's not your fault, you know, this this situation.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Listen, faithful are the wounds of a friend, the one who will come alongside.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: And and you and I've talked about it on past, we have that kind of relationship.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: In the years we've known each other, we both called each other out, right?
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: We both also come alongside one another.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: And faithful are the wounds of a friend, right?
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: You don't need people in your life that are gonna keep justifying your sin.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: None at all.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: And I and I will just add to what you're saying there.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: When we are resisting correction of our sins, like somebody can tell you something and say, hey, this is the this is what you need to do, and you can reject what they're telling you at the same time.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Like the you've said things to me, I've said things to you.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: There are times where we have listened to each other, but you can testify just like I can testify to you.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: There's been times you say, nah, I'm gonna still do this anyway, and it came back to bite you, it's come back to bite me.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: It happened.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: You've got to take it, listen, and go with it.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: That's why you have that trusting relationship.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: So exactly.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: And so, what is the cost of that?
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: We we've we do these five things, and and so the the cost of that.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: I think in order to look at this, there's there's a great example of that.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Again, we've made mention of this, Numbers 32 and verse 23.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Be sure your sin will find you out.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: It's the one I wrote earlier.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: You love that verse.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're not you're not gonna hide from it.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: So, what are some things that happen?
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: First of all, it breaks our fellowship.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it breaks our fellowship with God, it breaks our fellowship with others.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Again, David said, When I kept silent, right?
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: My bones grew old.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: And listen, he says, for day and night, your heavy hand was upon me.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: It it man, it breaks the fellowship we have with God, it breaks the fellowship we have with others.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it starts breaking you down, too.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: It tears you down from the inside.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: And that it like nothing is gonna change that.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Nothing until you start making changes.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: And and then it still is the joy of our salvation.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: Not our salvation, but the joy of the joy of our salvation.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: And in Psalm 51, which is David's repentant psalm, right?
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: And and it's when he finally quit running from his from God and confessed his sin.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: His prayer was restore to me the joy of my salvation.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we brought that one up the three weeks ago.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Like I love that verse.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Just restore it to me, the joy of your salvation.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Not restore salvation, restore that joy.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: There's only one way to do that.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: You gotta confess the sin and live all the way.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: It's if you're holding on to that, again, tearing you up from the inside.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: And you know, when we can sell our sin, it produces that guilty conscience.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: We we talked about that it the garden was not only original sin, it was the original guilty conscience.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: David, again, day and night your head hand was heavy upon me.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: And and uh we can pretend all we want, but but but our conscience is just going to continue to eat away at us.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, yeah, absolutely.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: And and then spiritual dryness, you know.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: When I think about what we do with sin, we just become dry.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: David again said, My strength was dried uh up as the heat of summer.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: That's a picture of David's.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: And I feel like you can't again, I can only go back and speak about myself.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: You can't do the things that God's calling you to do when you find yourself in this type of situation as much as you want to, as much as you know you should, especially when you know the calling in your life.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Hey, this is what God has called you to do, this is what you're passionate about, and then you you have this sin in your life, it stops you.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: And that I uh for me, that's the dryness you're talking about, it dries everything up, and I can't even be used by God anymore, which goes back to the joy you talked about before because I have so much joy in serving the Lord and the way he has called me to serve him, but because of this, I can't do it, so I've lost the joy, I'm drying up spiritually.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: It's a hard place, man.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Real hard place.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: All the way.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: And and you know, I think one of the most important things when when we talk about the consequences of sin, the the refusal to confess, and so we continue to conceal, it is what I call the shrapnel of sin.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: When when you're in a situation where you know you throw a hand grenade and and it it goes off, yes, it it kills your intended target, but there's also unintended targets with that.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: And and so that's that sin, listen, it it destroys my relationship with God absolutely, but then it impacts the relationship with my wife, with my kids, with my grandkids, with my fellow church members, with my I mean, boom, here it goes, and it just it just flows.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Whew, that's some good stuff that you I don't know who was hurt today, but you but but I was gonna say I know I was there's some personal conviction in the life of what you have been saying, and this is why I say please, when you're listening to to these four that we've done, we've got one more that we're looking at doing.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Don't look at it as, hey, he's talking about other people, even as we are talking about ourselves.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: We're looking in the mirror at ourselves, just as you should be looking at yourself in the mirror and saying, are these things that I'm doing?
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: And if so, I need to, especially with this last one you said, I need to confess rather than conceal because concealing it is just gonna bring me down.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: And that last one, the last two you said, the joy will be removed from you, and you're just gonna dry up.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: That's a hard thing to think about, man.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: But but I appreciate you bringing all these things forward because we do need to look at ourselves and we do need to take it seriously.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: So wrap this thing up for for me.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: Bring it home with what is the reality for us.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Because looking on, I go, man, these are these are some good things that you have said, but application is always the main thing that we'd like to do.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: You know, I I think every one of us are four more far more like Adam and Eve than we want to admit.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: And and so when they sinned, they didn't run to God, they ran from him.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they covered themselves with the leaves, they hid among the trees, they blamed someone else.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: And ever since that day, we have followed the same pattern.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: And and you know, when we think about that and and we begin to understand the danger, but we look back to the garden, and you know, when God came looking for them and he called out, Where are you?
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: that wasn't the voice of an angry God searching for someone to punish.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: That was the voice of a loving father pursuing his children.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: And his children lied.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: And and man, we need to realize that.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: We need to realize that God still pursues us today.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: First John 1 9, if we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: And we absolutely have to see the reality of that.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: That's wonderful, man.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: And I love it because we've got one more, and the last one you want to talk about is walking in the Spirit.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna conclude this whole thing and talking about the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: And as we replace these sinful habits, we're gonna discover the Christian life isn't just about avoiding sin.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: There's no way to avoid sin.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: We're going to sin.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: But how do we live every day with our sin in the power of the Holy Spirit?
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: And that is exciting.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: So please tune in next week as we wrap up this series.
