They gave us a shout out on episode three. ⁓ if you haven't listened to it or seen it, 'cause there you are on video. They're on YouTube and they ⁓ on Spotify you can watch the video too. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah, they're on YouTube. Give them a listen. Pour up a drink and watch it. It's it's fun 'cause he's he's drinking so whoever's listeners just pour yourself one and just watch the show man, it's fun. Shamus: It's one of those it's kinda like ours. Yeah. ⁓ it's one of those ones where they start talking and you're just like, What? Yeah. Herbie: Just good dude friends that are just like hanging out just bullshitting about stuff, man. It's great. Shamus: Like I think the second episode was top five live bands they've seen, and then the third episode they mentioned was worse. And I was like, ⁓ so yeah, give ⁓ a listen, man. You'll find yourself, you know, if you're into music and tattoos and stuff like that. Yeah, you'll find yourself arguing with them as you listen. But ⁓ just wanted to say thanks for the shout out. All right. How was your week, Herb? Herbie: Yeah. It was good, man. I've actually I I have achieved the power of Gray Skull. Because as we all know, the He-Man movie did come out, and a lot of people in my job did not know that He-Man was out, but I was there to ⁓ continually remind them and also about the three ancient relics I was able to bring together. Aka the popcorn bucket and the He-Man sword and ⁓ yeah, dude. I got ⁓ I got I got the three ancient relics, man, and brought ⁓ all together. Shamus: You got it? Okay, what did that cost? ⁓ Herbie: Yeah, it's definitely, definitely, definitely not ⁓ twenty bucks a piece. It was under a hundred and stuff, but I was just like, ⁓ Yeah. It's like but you know what? Like the the sword's definitely worth it. The popcorn, the gray skull ⁓ popcorn bucket, I love it. It's just not that big. ⁓ and the skeletor cup is a definite grab. So all three that those are the three I basically wanted. There was another one that that Brett got. Shamus: We're gonna buy it on eBay. Herbie: It's ⁓ skeletor like with the with the hood on and everything and his eyes light up. And I think that's another cup. And there's another like throne thing, but I just wanted the three. So when I brought ⁓ those three ancient relics together, it was like by the power of gray skull. ⁓ I I cheated. I went on YouTube and I watched so I watched most of it. It's it's it's campy, man. It's he, man. Like I can't really Shamus: Well, how was the movie? Wait a minute, did you go to the theater and watch it? Or you just bought the popcorn? ⁓ okay. Herbie: I bought the popcorn book. ⁓ yeah. Well the you know what's like people now like when you go to the movie theaters they have all these merchandise out before the movie even Shamus: talked about that. Like the top gun shit was sold out before the movie even came out. Herbie: That just drives me nuts. I was like, I had to get this stuff, man. And of course, some of the stuff from the Mando and Grogu movie, you know? So like, you know, this past two weeks, like my my geek, ⁓ my geek needs were met. And ⁓ went to a Yankees game last night. Got rained out a half hour before ⁓ you know the first pitch was out. So got a free t-shirt and had dinner with my friends, had a good time and had my buddy ⁓ ⁓ Rick and his son Tyler from Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania come out. I haven't seen them in years, so that was good. ⁓ And ⁓ you know, did yard work and ⁓ got a little built a little ⁓ a bench for my you know Herbie kayak and the Herbie Yeah. Shamus: Your arm your fleet? Yep. I think you just need one more boat, bro. What do you think? Captain the Admiral. Herbie: I needed to like find like a Viking boat or something like that alongship so I can just like doing raids. Shamus: Well if it's cool with you, man, I'm gonna sail under the Herbie colors, the Herbie flag. Herbie: Yeah, definitely, bro. Yeah, you're in. Don't worry. I'm I was actually d contemplating trying to start a kayak ⁓ gang anyway, so I just need ⁓ some more some some more ⁓ you know, get the leather jackets, you know, get the the group name, you know, start causing terror on the freaking on the water. Shamus: I gonna get my pirate hat and I'll get my Jack Sparrow on. So apparently I do like, and you can my one buddy Kevin who lessens used on a bar in Riverside, and some of the people probably listening know this about me. Like when I get really fried, like really shimmed up, like I start doing the whole thing, like my fingers start to get all and I don't know if it's because, you know, drummer hands are ⁓ you know, old and like it's arthritis or whatever. But I mean, this was when I was in my twenties and thirties. Like I get that whole Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Shamus: And I'm like, dude, you like get all sparrowed up and shit, you're alive. ⁓ Herbie: But why is the rum gone? Shamus: Yeah, so yeah, I was gonna get some pirate shit and do the canoe thing. Herbie: Well you did have like the the house and you called it the pirate ship. I remember I did Yeah man. Yeah, I got you a couple of pirate stuff. I think I got you like a couple of rubber duckies with like the pirate ⁓ like the yeah man. Shamus: Yeah, the one in Delanco. I have it. I have it. So Yeah, we'll have to get to that. My week was all right. ⁓ school's getting ready in so those hallways, the school the kids are just everywhere, man. Like nobody's in class. ⁓ even a teacher's like, The hell with this, let's go outside for recess all day. So, I mean, it's just kind of controlled chaos, but so as long as nobody's showing up to do bad things, I'm good. Yeah. ⁓ So that's been going on. I did ⁓ like we talked about before, I did start acquiring some equipment for our jump to video. ⁓ what's the thing called? It's the roadcaster video, it's the big one, it's not the video s, but we got that coming. We got the countertops. I gotta go get some ⁓ some other materials and stuff, but we're pretty much almost there. Yeah then construction starts. So So yeah, that's pretty much been my week. ⁓ and like I said, with that, ⁓ we don't have a guest. ⁓ we're gonna try to kind of slow down on the guests a little bit because when we start building this thing, it's gonna be quick and fast and we kinda wanna just start doing video. Yeah. So we're not gonna waste anybody's time with them coming in and audio. The people we've already had on the show, we're gonna invite back after some time, you know, to do follow ups, see where they're at and stuff and give them a chance to do the video thing too. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: ⁓ that's another thing. My buddy Paul hit me off and he's already gotten a couple couple customers from the pod. So and like I said before, Snipe's ⁓ mobile window tinning and PDR, give him a call, I'll give you ten percent off. So ⁓ if you need the phone number, just go to our Facebook and Instagram. ⁓ what we're gonna do today is since we don't have a guest, ⁓ ⁓ gonna interview Mr. Herbie. Woo! We're gonna do a thing called twenty questions where we ask ⁓ you know ⁓ We're gonna do five basic questions, then we're gonna find ⁓ some secret questions. ⁓ then we're gonna ask five fun ones, and then we're gonna ask five goal-oriented ones. ⁓ so you ready, Herb? All right, let's get this ripping. All right. First, what is your first name? Like not just Herbie, but like the whole Herb ⁓ and where does it from? How did you end up with that name? Herbie: Yeah, man. from my father and his father before him. So it's like a like I guess a couple yeah I guess so you know but my my grandfather ⁓ is I guess he took off. He was in the army or something like that and he took off. So like back in the day when I used to go to my grandmom's house I would see like this military picture and it looked spitting image of my dad. And I was like when the hell was dad in the army Shamus: Family tradition. Herbie: Or a navy or something. He one of one of, you know. But and it was like, no, that's that's your dad's that's your dad's dad. And I was like, what the hell? And this is like, you know, when my grandmom had pop up, it was like a second marriage guy, so I was like, just wrecked my world 'cause it's like the dude looked just like my dad. I look a little bit I look like an amalgamation of mom and my mom and dad. Okay. Shamus: You don't look like either one of ⁓ Yeah. Do you know any f famous people named Herbert or any movie or TV characters named Herbert? Herbie 'cause I know one. Well Herbie the V dub, the bug. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, that's that's like, you know, the universal one I heard all the time. You know, Herbie goes bananas, which is true. I do go bananas. And ⁓ Herbie Hancock, you know, of course that's another one. Shamus: Herbert Viola, who was Booger, Curtis Armstrong on Moonlighting. And ⁓ I forget the chick's name who had a big crush on them. They were always making out and doing it in a closet somewhere or something like that. Herbert Viola, one of my favorite characters. Herbie: Yes. ⁓ my god, yeah. Yeah, there's not too many herbies out there, man. Shamus: No, there's not. Where were you born at, buddy? The name of the hospital and all that. Herbie: I was born in the Bron ⁓ Jacoby Hospital in the Bronx, New York. Shamus: Okay. You don't want to give your age or anything, what year it's up to you. Herbie: Nah. Nah. Solid questions, man. It's like after a while we're gonna give all up our information and people gonna be able to track us or some crap or some crazy Shamus: Just know it was a long time No, the way I see it dude is like I said, if you're coming to look for me, you really need to find somebody else to look for. Because I mean, besides the big TV and the two cats, take it. I don't you know, I don't need it. ⁓ what's your favorite food? ⁓ now you could do this in two different ways. You can name like a like no a Japanese American or you could just name like one certain food. It's up to you. Or you could do both. Herbie: My favorite. Right. Well, I definitely, definitely love like Asian and s and Puerto Rican cuisine, you know, Spanish cuisine, because like rice is definitely my staple food. ⁓ yeah, dude. Even like the girls at work, they're like, let me guess what you're having for lunch. Is it rice and chicken? I'm like, pretty much. That's pretty much like my my go-to, but like probably like my favorite one is such like a a meal that no one probably really likes, but I just ⁓ I always have a craving for it and I just devour it. It's just like regular white rice. Shamus: ⁓ no doubt. That's both that's both cultures, right? Herbie: with a can of tuna fish and vegetable oil with like maybe either some onions and tomato and some avocado with ⁓ a little extra olive oil and some salt and pepper or maybe a little bit of hot sauce. But just like, yeah, rice and tuna fish is like Shamus: Really? Yeah. I'm about to try that. 'Cause I'm a big ⁓ chicken and rice guy. ⁓ try to keep it home. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, I'm a big yeah, that's ⁓ that's like basically my staples and stuff, man. Just rice and chicken, you know, beef and rice. It's just you know, potatoes, I'll you know the other starches are like I'll I'll hold off, but I g I can have rice every goddamn day like three meals a day. I'll even have like rice with eggs and spam for like breakfast and corned beef and rice. Shamus: Damn you sweet spam. Herbie: Hell yeah, every once in a while. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow. Yeah. 'Cause sometimes it's like it depends on like ⁓ I either I do like a heavy breakfast and then like a light light lunch or maybe no lunch and then just have dinner. So sometimes I can eat like two times a day or just maybe like s depends on what I have and I could do three times a day. Shamus: Well that's ⁓ and I'll ask this and not it it's I'm not being racist or anything like that, but like spam's like a huge thing with the Puerto Rican culture, right? Herbie: ⁓ yeah, well spam is also for like, you know, people in Hawaii and stuff. So like spam, ⁓ corn ⁓ canned corned beef is a big one, like corn beef. ⁓ I love Yeah. Well there's corned beef hash and there's also like canned corned beef. So he's done that with you know with like onions, a little bit of tomato sauce and says ⁓ I just tear that shit up, man. Mm-hmm Or just like vi Vienna sausages. That's another like Shamus: That I love. Yeah, I've seen that. I haven't had any three of those since I left the military. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Tear it up, man. That's the one thing I used to love about like that Puerto Rican food, because there's always tons of it. You can actually have like maybe a couple of staples of stuff and it's just like it's a big huge meal. Just like rice and beans and chicken and tear it up. Just destroy it. Shamus: All right. So what do you like to do in your free time? I I know we talked about a couple of them, like the canoe, like obviously we just hit on that, but like what are some of the other stuff you like to do? Herbie: ⁓ do magna fishing, hanging out in the woods, some a little bit of hiking, and like they do like the Herbie Ninja missions of carowacking and stuff. So that's that's like, you know, nerd type stuff. Basically a lot of nerd shit really. Just you know, movies. Love listening to music. I love being around people, I love animals. You know, it's if if I i either I could be doing like something every day or I can go through a streak where people don't see me for like a couple of months and I literally can just either just sit in my backyard, listen to some music, have a couple of drinks and Yeah. Just like it's it's almost like you like you recenter yourself. It's it's sometimes people say, Man, I haven't seen you in a while But then there's sometimes like you see me like every day. Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: Or just run around doing stuff 'cause everyone ⁓ that's the one thing I always liked about people telling me stuff. They're like, Man, you're always doing stuff. I'm like, Yeah, it's just yeah it's just natural. But also I have people that invite me to do stuff. And I'm grateful for that. So I just have a lot of opportunities to be able to do things, have hobbies. ⁓ used to like painting like the, you know, miniatures and stuff like that. So that was like a hobby I used to do. I'd like to get back into stuff like that. Shamus: hit on that on the Dungeons Dragons episode. I do remember you saying that. And of course that comes up on my feed now all the time. Anytime we talk about something on this show, it's like a month later. It's like it actually just came up. I was like, you gotta be kidding. Herbie: I didn't. Yeah, I was getting a lot of that stuff too. But yeah, it's just like all that I like the nerd stuff. I like to have like a balance of like nerd stuff and manly dude stuff. So it's like you like a yin and yang of of Herbie. Yeah, pretty much, man. It's just like, you know, like I guess I like to keep it balanced. Shamus: Mm. Okay, I this isn't on the list, but and I just thought of this while you were talking. We've known each other a long time, dude. And to this day, I have no idea your favorite rock band is. Herbie: My favorite rock, but ⁓ my god. Shamus: And we've listened we went to shows together. We've gone whether it was Carfax Abbey or you know, some big shows or something like that. We've been all over Philadelphia, New Jersey, like the music scene. You've come and seen my band. Yeah. ⁓ and I have no idea who you rock with, bro. Herbie: The thieves, baby. I don't know. I've looked you know what's like I when I grew up in New York, I grew up with a lot of Motown and ⁓ you know stuff like that, especially from the Bronx Spanish music. When I came to Jersey, my cousins were able to introduce me to Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, and all that stuff. And then of course, like on my own, I got into like, you know, RB and and rap and like you know ⁓ club music, freestyle music. I just don't do polka. Can't do that, you know. But I do want to learn to play a dig dory do for some damn reason. I just, you know, in our in our group, everyone can play a goddamn instrument, but I just want to be that dude in the back just going, yeah. That's what I want. Because we got like 75 drummers. Yeah. See? How the how how enchanting is that, man? It's like the also the the melodic tunes of the pan flute, you know? Just gonna learn I'm gonna learn some like, you know, different shit. Shamus: Run around. That's awesome. Yeah. Herbie: I always wanted to learn how to play t piano too. Piano and sex. I think that's more like classy and sexy because I was like, you chicks will dig that and if I could play like acoustic guitar really well, like Spanish style, like you know, like mariachi and stuff like that. Shamus: I do remember trying like in in school, like just one day there was a sack sitting there and I was like, Let me see that and you know, you do research on it and like you have to develop like your cheeks start to cause you're holding all that air and that shit hurt so bad, dude. Like after a couple minutes of playing that, I was like, Yeah, I'm done. ⁓ but yeah, sack we definitely need a sax player. We have a piano player, like Big Bob plays piano, but like I would like to learn how to play piano too. Herbie: I think like one of my first loves though was like Metallica as like you know the because I love that like that deep bass like guitar riffs and shit. That it's just ⁓ it just gets my blood pumping, man. Okay. But ⁓ yeah, like Metallica, but also love like you know, Foo Fighters. I love KISS because I grew up with Kiss and stuff too. And I still like their vinyl albums. It's just like there's so many ⁓ beat the the Beatles. Yeah, it's ⁓ there's there's ⁓ even I like a lot of classical ⁓ Vivaldi, I love Amadeus, ⁓ Shamus: You're just like me, man. You listen to everything. Herbie: Bach, Beethoven, it's just you know, just there's like this huge amalgamation 'cause like how beautiful music is and what it actually does and how it makes you feel, man. It's it's it's just it just trans Yeah, it just trans Yeah. Yeah. So I do like the Bee Gees too, man. I grew up with a Bee Gees, so I'm like partial to them too. And freestyle music like Lil Susie and Shamus: Yeah. Who the hell was telling that story? It was a comedian or something like that when he he jumped into the limo with the Begees. He was like, the motherfuckers had a disco ball right in the middle of the limo. ⁓ And the shit was. Herbie: I would I got a disco ball in my room, man. You kidding me? I told you like we even have like a Shamus: There was a smoke machine in there, there was a disco ball, these dudes are just hanging out. Herbie: ⁓ That definitely sounds like a Herbie limo. Shamus: ⁓ no doubt. All right. The last one for this ⁓ subject well, it's basic. Yeah. Five basic questions. what is your biggest fear? Now it could be like a fear of like heights or something like that, or it could be like something whatever. What is your one big fear? Herbie: have a fear of being eaten alive. It's either either by alligators, sharks, or lions. It's just like it's just like a like a paralyzing type of fear. Shamus: Well, it's a good thing you don't live anywhere in that area where you have to worry about the Herbie: Yeah, I don't move that yeah, there's like ⁓ I wanna go to Australia. I'm like, Yeah, your mom, I ain't going there. You know? I think like the also another big fear for me is too is like ⁓ dying like a a dumb death. You know. I just wanna live like a long Shamus: Scribe dumb Herbie: You know, like just something stupid, like you're sitting there walking along the street and you trip over and it's it's almost like, you know, the Final Fantasy movies or whatever the hell you like you trip into a wood chipper or some shit. Something like that, dude. I'll be like, ⁓ really? You know? Just like something hokey and shitty like that, man. Shamus: 'Cause you can't put a quarter in that arcade and hit, you know. Herbie: I almost got chopped up on a tugboat. I was on a jet ski ⁓ I w yeah, it was dumb. I was like on my just hanging out. I was like just trolling behind the the tugboat and the tugboat was parked, but it started up as engines. And when it does that in the back, it's just like this water just drops. And I was right in there. I was like, ⁓ God, if I don't get out of this, I'm just going. ⁓ Yeah. Done and done. just I just I hate like that type of like Shamus: Shaman. Herbie: You know, it's i it's it's almost like if like for kids that are playing video games and you have that one life and you spawn into like that battle and you're running like Rheo Sniper, done. That's that's like Shamus: That's what I was saying. You can't put a quarter in there to extend your time or another three. Herbie: Damn. Yeah. And just like a just like a fear because I know when like when my mother passes I'm just gonna be like a fucking a wreck. ⁓ yeah. It's just like you know, shit like that. But it's just you know, those those are the two main ones. Yeah. Shamus: Eat alive? Herbie: I always have like a weird, it's always like a weird dream, man. Like you have like dreams of like these alligators that live at the lake in my town, or of like I'm in a swamp or I'm in the water and it's like I don't want to move around and or there's like lions around. there was another one that was just like weird. I was at the lake. It's like a lot of them are reoccurring ones. So I was at the lake the one time and I see like this weird looking like salamander thing just poking its head out of the water. I was like, what the hell is that? And then ⁓ it was kind of I was backing up, of course. Shamus: Is a dream? Herbie: Yeah. And ⁓ there was people over by the bridge looking at this thing, and this thing just comes out and it's like this huge long black salamander. And I was just like, holy shit. And it just started attacking those people. And I was farther away, but I you know, I'm in me, I know how fast lizards run. Because you just see them like coming at you and they're like you know, look like a Komodo dragon. I was like, ⁓ my God. And I just have like this paralyzing fear. And I was like, I I in my dream it's like I couldn't run away or run away fast enough. So it's just like I always have like these weird dreams like either I can't protect especially like I'll have a dream where I c I can't like help mom. Like if if I like gotta protect her with something and she doesn't listen to me and something bad happens and it's just stuck in my head or just like ⁓ you know being eaten alive by some kind of freaking animal or monster. Yeah. It's always reoccurring dreams like that too. Shamus: Wow. Herbie: I guess it's always sits in the back of my mind just like that type of stuff. I you know, my concern for mama, make sure she's ⁓ cause I, you know, protect her and want to make sure she's okay and and me not getting eaten by a horde of zombies and shit, you know. Or a damn, you know, shark or anything else like that. Or a dumb death. But if I died like a valiant death, like protecting someone that I love then I'd I'd definitely embrace it. You know what I mean? Shamus: Yeah, that's always worth it. That's definitely not dumb. Herbie: So something like that I accept. Shamus: Alright, let's go on to the next subject. It's like secrets. Ooh. ⁓ name a favorite thing about yourself. Herbie: I my sense of humor and the fact that my sense of humor allows me to be surrounded by a bunch of people that love and care about me. And just have you know, great friends like you and man. Seriously. It's just like you have no idea how grateful I am for all you guys in my life. But seriously. There's you know, you guys ⁓ there's so many groups of friends that I have that ⁓ all you guys has ever done has been nice and care about me and and I love you guys for it. And just let me you know, you guys let me be a part of your life and I'm just thankful. ⁓ Shamus: Thanks. ⁓ it's I mean, that works both ways, brother. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say man. Because I'll tell you what, it's an amazing thing. And I'll give a quick story. ⁓ when I first went up to do an episode of the Exciting A New Podcast, ⁓ they were looking for other people to come in. Yeah. And me and Jason were talking. And I said, ⁓ hey man, you should think about having Herbie come up here and do I said, Herbie loves movies. I mean he's all over the place with it, he watches everything. And Dana from the other room was like, Herbie She came around the corner and she's like, You know Herbie. And I was just like, Yeah, you know Herbie? And like she had this look on her face that everybody has. Big smile, kinda like, you know him too? Like ⁓ we're to know you. Like it's just like, ⁓ my god, yeah, I know. How do you and I like, You gotta get that guy up here and she was like, Absolut and you were up there like a what, a two, three weeks later. So Yeah. Yeah, it's ⁓ trust me, everybody who knows you was just like Herbie: It's Right. Shamus: You know Herbie? And I was like, Yeah, man. Or like when we start talking about this podcast, I was like, Who you doing with? And I was like, Herbie? And they're like, You know Herbie. Yeah, man. ⁓ So yeah, ⁓ very grateful that you're in our their lives too. So it works both ways. Like I said, ⁓ on booze and tattoos, Brett was just like, dude, we have to have Herbie, you know, Seamus and Herbie about Herbie, man, that guy is funny as hell. They're like, dude, he'll you know cry like ⁓ that guy you, man. So we all love you too. Herbie: Ha ha ha. Shamus: So ⁓ Herbie: I think that's why I hug all you guys all the time. I don't really do like the handshakes and stuff. I just hug I just hug all my boys. Shamus: Yeah, we said that. So all right, question number two. Okay. Have you ever done something you really regret? Regret, excuse me. Herbie: Yeah, I had like you know, like sometimes I just don't take care of myself. So like, you know, being that like the ankles all jacked up, it's that's that's something that's gonna stick with me. So that's something I definitely regret. Shamus: That is ⁓ that is through the gout, right? Yeah. Yeah. They told you about it early on, you just didn't go get looked at or Herbie: Yeah, pretty much. It's like and I w you I work at the hospital and everyone's like you gotta go see someone like Yeah yeah yeah I'll be right I'll be alright And sure enough and just procrastinated and just like neglected myself. Shamus: Well you're a lot like me then. ⁓ I'm one of those guys that just if I have to work, that's priority. ⁓ just push it off. But the fact of one thing that freaks me out about that is you work in hospital. Yeah. So they could have just looked at I mean like or just walked across the street 'cause they have all them things. ⁓ But I'm the same way. I'm stubborn like that too. Herbie: They've done it before. Yeah. Well I I got diagnosed up, you know, diagnosed with it because I had like a flare up and they, you know, ⁓ drew fluid out of my knee and they're like, Yeah, it's high in uric acid. You got uric crystal uric acid crystals in your knee and they set everything up for me to see the doctors, but I was like, I'll be right. Sure enough. Nah, nah. Yeah, it could added the medication a lot sooner. Yeah. Shamus: Should have should have gone and seen them buddy. But it it could have been worse. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I've seen some dudes like guys who retired from law enforcement stuff that have it and they're I mean, bang I mean they can barely walk. Yeah. Herbie: I know. So God. I still might be like, you cause like, you know, getting back to like the nerd stuff, I always like had that thing of like the zombie apocalypse, which still a lot of people do. So I had all like now, you know, zombie ⁓ doomsday prepping. Finally get all my ninja swords and all the ninja suits that I wanted from Japan and everything, and now I'm just gonna be like, ⁓ I won't be able to def def to destroy the the army of the ⁓ effectively. I I used to be like so much more manoeuvrable. Shamus: You still do? Terry Fox ran across Canada on one leg back in the eighties, man. Like early eight ⁓ that's right. Yeah, yeah. So ⁓ Herbie: I do. I like 'cause you know like me being tiny, I like you know, like I I always worked on like my speed and agility 'cause I d I know I didn't have like, you know, the overpowering strength. So I was always just trying to be like, All right, you're a little guy. You gotta be agile and flexible and gotta be sneaky. Shamus: Okay. Number three. Name one lie that you have told. And it can't be like no, honey, you don't look fat in that Herbie: ⁓ ⁓ Jesus, that's that's a good question. ⁓ Shamus: It doesn't have to be anything epic. I mean nothing too soft. Herbie: Yeah, I was ⁓ just like some Yeah. Just Shamus: It could be a lie you tell yourself. Herbie: ⁓ that's a good idea. ⁓ no I I guess like sometimes like ⁓ Lying to like family and stuff like that. You know what I mean? Just like if if or lying lying to like friends and family, like if something's not not going great. You know what mean? You know, if sometimes if like things I'm bothered with, ⁓ then I just don't I don't like I Yeah. But I don't really s you know, s you know, seek it like I really need it. I'm just like after all like after all this time I've I've able to like adapt and take care of things for myself. So I just don't really try to ⁓ you know, I lie if if if I'm not doing great all the time because everyone's always like, ⁓ Herbie, you're always so happy all the time and and I I'm like, No, I'm not happy all the time mean I'm not suicidal, but you know, of course we've had friends that done that, so it's that that's always in the back of my mind. That's like, you know, things is like not everyone is okay, even if you're in a great mood. I mean I'm not at that point where I'm like low, low or anything like that. It but everyone has those ups and downs, man. And, you know, I'm glad that a lot of people enjoy me being like my like my perky type of ⁓ attitude and stuff. But Yeah, no one's completely happy all the time. I mean, if you are, you might as well check my urine for drugs and shit like that 'cause I must be like perpetually high. Shamus: Yeah, like even the f even the people you see, like it's usually like the over caffeinated like soccer mom. And like e th even those people aren't always happy. No. So and they're usually really miserable people underneath. But I mean like And that and that's another weird thing about society that kind of really freaks me out anymore. Like 'cause I'm the same way and I'm trying not to answer these questions because Herbie: Okay, everybody in the Shamus: The next episode after the mailbag episode, you're gonna ask me the same questions. But like if you tell like I just tell people now I'm good. That's that's always my thing. Like I'm good. Because I'm not telling them like I'm okay, I'm happy, da da da, but I'm good enough where I can get through this and da da da. Because people nowadays If you don't tell them you're happy, you're like, Yeah, everything like they they like do you need to talk to somebody? Do you need ⁓ a suicide hotline for I'm like, listen, I I I'm just having a good run of bad luck right now. Will you get away from me? ⁓ So yeah, but I I'm sure a lot of people do that, dude. So don't don't feel bad about that. A lot of people are like, Yeah, I'm good and when they people walk away, you're like, Motherfuck ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Like you don't need to make it worse. Yeah. Shamus: Hi, number four. Name one thing you could change about yourself and don't make it the foot. you can if you want, but I mean name one thing you could change about yourself if you could. Herbie: Okay. Get back to physical fitness, you know, because I used to go to the gym a lot and stuff too. And you know, when I was in high school, I was like in wrestling, I was in soccer, so I was always fit. You know, so I just like to have that that type of physique and strength again. And definitely hair. This bold shit is fucking horrible. You know, and not for nothing. Like baseball caps are always my thing, even when I had hair. Now it's almost like a goddamn necessity because I don't so I don't blind people from the from the goddamn shine. Shamus: That's one of those myths you heard as a kid. If you wear a hat all the time, you're gonna lose your hair. Herbie: Yeah. I was like Yeah. ⁓ yeah, it didn't matter. Yeah. It just did not matter. Like, God damn it. Shamus: ⁓ don't feel bad about the physical fitness thing. ⁓ one thing I've always done is try to for a while there I was I was out of control with it. ⁓ when you work law enforcement and we were so undermanned, you're not sleeping right, you're eating shitty, 'cause you don't have the time to meal prep. So I I was up to like two hundred and seventy-five pounds at one point in my life. I'm currently at two forty, two forty-one. ⁓ work out three or times a week. Herbie: That's Shamus: I do cardio, like you said, chicken and rice. I do protein shakes, sardines, like small little stuff. ⁓ And still can't drop a fucking ounce of weight, dude. So Yeah. Exactly. It's so frustrating. Herbie: Tissue. Shamus: At our age it's a tough thing, man. It really is. Herbie: Metabolism's a bitch. Shamus: So so don't feel bad. ⁓ All right, here comes a big one, dude, to end this segment. Have you ever been in love? Herbie: Yes. I actually to be honest, like I've I've been in love with like all my serious girlfriends. I just I just love them. Serious relations Like ⁓ God. It's like seven? Like long term relationships? There was there was Yeah, but I didn't know that. Yeah, that would like span like maybe like a year or two, but I I loved I like I loved them, you know? Shamus: How many? How many serious relations? Mokes, dude. Really? Herbie: Not not just like being with but I just I loved them because like they were like you know, they I don't know, just like I would think about them all the time. It was just like they were beautiful, they were sexy, it was just like they were nice to me. And like after a while they got a little some of them got a little crazy and stuff. But there was one that I probably would have settled down with, but I met her at the wrong time. I met her like when I was twenty-one and she was thirty. And I was like, I knew like if if I did this, that all that, you know, like when you especially when you first turn twenty-one, you want to go out and you wanna go to the clubs, you wanna you wanna experience like adult life. ⁓ yeah, definitely dude. I was going dude, I was going to the clubs like all the time. When I worked at the Cherry Hole Mall, dude, I was going to like clubs every goddamn night, man. But ⁓ like I knew that if I did that, then my life would dramatically change and I probably end up with her. And it wasn't like a bad thing, but I knew that I wanted to experience these things of life myself before I had like like a thing of regrets. You know, like I I've seen it with my ⁓ like other friends before too. They're like, Man, ⁓ I wish I didn't settle down early or just like, you know, they're like, I'm happy with stuff that I'm doing, but I really wish I didn't do it that soon. And ⁓ ⁓ actually like I there every once in a while I think about what it'd be like if I was married and have kids. I would love to have kids and ⁓ there's a lot of like ladies out there that say, ⁓ you'd be such a great father and I appreciate that. But ⁓ I I guess so far it's just not in the cards, man. Yeah, I was I was in love. Like like the like the one there was there was another one I was with for a long time and like it I I just wanted her to be stronger. She was like very naive, very sweet. I mean I'm still like close with her to this day and I'm just I'm glad that her life changed for the better when Now that we're not together. You know what I mean? She's got a a loving, caring husband. She's got a good business. She's got ⁓ you know, she's got kids, she's got a house. So I'm just like her life, I'm I'm I'm just very happy for her because she deserves it. And I wasn't sure if I was able to give her that. I think that in the back of my mind it was like, would I be able to give her the things she actually wants? You know what I mean? Like the type of house and ⁓ all that type of thing. So I I always projected like in the in the future, like, you know, If we did, ⁓ would she really be happy? And I know she wouldn't, you know, and it would just like probably be a combination of just problems and it'd probably just lead to the divorce or something. So I'm just I'm glad that I was with her for the time I had with her. I still love and care about her. And I s always still feel like a need to protect her 'cause we're we're still like close friends and ⁓ I'm just happy for the life that she has now with her husband and family. Shamus: Great man once said, just because two people love each other doesn't mean they're gonna end up together. Or should end up together, so Yeah. All right, let's get off this mushy shit. Let's go with ⁓ this category's fun. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Hopefully that's a question in the fun section here. All right, number one. Where would you go in time if you had a time machine? Just one place. Herbie: That is ⁓ I Shamus: If you had the DeLorean and you could always set that little times machine thing on the inside before you hit eighty eight, where you going? Herbie: The the normal answers I would give would either go to like feudal Japan or you know, meet Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar or something like that. But I would actually go back in time to meet my grandfather from my mother's side because I never got to meet him. And how like my mom always told me like stories about him. I just always wanted to meet him. You know? I I got to meet my grandmother and all that, but like my grandfather, that grandfather I I always wanted to meet. You know, but my dad's dad, like he he d he ditched out on my dad, like at early age. I mean I'd be like you know, like a side note, but the the main one would actually be like my mother's father. Shamus: Okay. That's a good answer, bro. Like, I go see the birth of Christ or you know Herbie: Yeah. I mean don't give me wrong. You know how fucking crazy I am. I w I would be I would be that dude like right by the manger drinking a cherry weep like holy shit, this is real You know? We're like in feudal Japan like trying to like you know like try to steal a ninja sword or something. I don't know. Shamus: I mean See out in the middle of the desert, these three old wise dudes walking by. I'm like, yo, where you at? You buy if I take a look. It's like, yo, mind my ⁓ catch a ride. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah. He's like, what do you got? There was like frankincense and myrrh and gold or something like that and Herbie brings like a a a wahwa cream soda and a breakfast sandwich, like I brought a I brought something and a skeletal action figure or maybe Shamus: And then right next to the donkeys and the chickens and stuff, you can put like a scoby duck Herbie: Yeah. I bet you they probably were at the manger. SCOE Ducks probably were it. Yeah. Actually, I I know everyone's like asking us about that. They're actually called Muscovy ducks or something like that, but I've been calling them SCOBY Ducks for like over. Yeah, Scott yeah, Scoby. And and those things are still like mutants, man. I don't care what what they say. Shamus: Go redux is cool. Especially the way Len from the Village Candyman says it. Herbie: Especially where the hell they are too, man. It's like there's got like, you know, by the old Cybron Chemic Chemical Company. It's like, Jesus Christ, they're mutant frickin' birds. Right. Shamus: ⁓ Number two, what would you buy if you won the lottery, say for fifty million dollars? What was the first thing you would buy? Fifty million dollars. Herbie: dollars I would actually buy my mother's family's house and one of the at Puerto Rico and I would just have it like redone, refurbished. Shamus: Actually you can give me a couple of things you would do at fifty million. Herbie: Yeah, I would I'd definitely I would take care of that household, you know, and I would it would it's got enough land where it can actually have some other smaller houses so like the immediate family if they need to be together or like it'd just be like like the like the Santiago ho like the cops. Yeah. You know what I mean? But and just like nothing nothing too extravagant, cause even at those houses, like there's nothing too extravagant. Just just safe, ⁓ sturdy, working plumbing. And for them to like self-sufficient so they'd be able to take care of themselves, you especially during like the storms and everything, you know, it'd be able to be self-sufficient. So like if if things go down, they're they're they're taken care of. And then I would just take care of my house, you know, get it redone, or you know, always have like this little dream of like ⁓ having like a little Japanese looking type of house that almost like a like a castle, like out you know, with a castle wall, you know, like nerdy type stuff. like, you know, like if I had a like a house little house now with like a decent amount of land, a high fence, and maybe a moat, that'd be kinda cool. Or drawbridge. I mean, I'm just saying I'm I'm I'm not gonna go completely castle, but yeah, I would I would definitely love to have a castle, man. It'd be frickin' sweet. I mean I already want a tree for it, so ⁓ if I maybe do small, like have a cool, decent American type house that's self sufficient with a little little yard and And stuff like that and just have a kick ass ⁓ treehouse in the back or something. That we all could party in. Shamus: Nice. Absolutely. That's a lot of fifty million dollars buys a lot of beer, man. Yeah. All right, number three. If you could have dinner with one person ever, who would it be? Now I know you said in the time machine you'd go back and see your So you're gonna eliminate him. Cause you already went and talked to that dude in the time machine. Herbie: Yeah, it does. I was gonna say All right, Kanda. All right. True. All right. Bruce Lee. Just like, you know, the type you know, the type of like a thing. I mean, I I would like maybe the Dalai Lama or something like that or you know, I w I would want to talk to Julius Caesar, but Julius Caesar would probably wanna kill me. ⁓ Shamus: I'll give you two people. Pick two. All right. Herbie: All right, Bruce Lee and George Lucas. Yeah, just a little 'cause he like pretty much talks about all the same stuff that I like and that's probably about like there's such a connection to like the type of stuff that he puts out that I just connect with. Shamus: ⁓ Yeah, that's pretty good, dude. Yeah. it's a shame that ⁓ I guess we weren't around when Bruce Lee was around 'cause he w apparently like he had dojos everywhere and stuff like that. Like he was accessible. Like you could have just got on a plane today and went and seen him if he was still rocking around. Herbie: ⁓ I think like for me, like with Bruce Lee, even like even if you met anybody like something like even if you had it in your mind like how great this in d this specific person is, you can actually find out the truth for yourself. So it's almost like you'd it's like a reassuring thing. Even if you were like kind of let down or whatever, be like, hey, now I know. Yeah. You know? Shamus: Yeah, well they always say, you know, try not to meet your heroes because they end up being douchebags. Herbie: 'Cause I you I can meet George Lucas and he might be like, Hey, you want some orange juice with pulp in it? And I'd have to punch him in the face and leave. Shamus: Well not only that, but that guy, like ⁓ my god, the almost built like millions and millions of fans that probably just show up at his house inside. Like after a while, you gotta be a douchebag. So ⁓ he looks like a really nice guy though. Yeah. ⁓ all right. This is where it's gonna get good. Okay. You're gonna like this one. Number four. If you could have superpowers, just one set of superpowers, what would it be? Or if it makes it easier if you could have one superhero's superpowers. Isn't he a slave for Galactus? Herbie: Sur surfer. Nah, he's free now. But it like he's got like energy projection, molec molecular reconstruction. It's like he can just re ⁓ realign matter and stuff like that. But like, you know, like simpler, I would love to have like Spider Man's powers. Yeah, like, you know, of course. But of course I would love to be able to fly, just have like that invincibility like flying and or ⁓ Shamus: Tatney does it so cool on that board, man. Herbie: Yeah, just like flying and just like, you know, just superhuman strength would be kinda cool, but then like you're kinda weird 'cause I hug everybody, so I'm afraid if I hug people I squeeze the shit out of ⁓ they pop like a grape. You know? Or just have like that thing, you know, with the emperor has like that force lightning. So who the hell would not want to have force lightning? All right. Shit. All right. I would take Shamus: Pick one herb. If you have all those superpowers the next thing you know the Marvel Avengers are fighting you for the Infinity Gauntly. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. I would look cool though, man. And you're right. I wouldn't I wouldn't wait for them to ⁓ dump out their dialogue. I would just have Adam. So yeah, all right, Silver Surfers powers 'cause like you all the other ones I can know just make really. Yeah, Silver Surfers powers. And it looks cool too. So it's like something like that'd be kinda cool. Shamus: All right. Here's a realistic question. and the reason I wrote this down is because I recently seen Project Hail Mary. Yeah. So if you could go into space like on like one of those have you seen a movie? Yeah. Would you do it? Herbie: Yeah, I would go. I would go. if I can actually like especially with that type of scenario, if I can like save the world I would do it. I'd just love to see ⁓ Shamus: Okay. Well like even if even if they were just like, Hey man, like you were walking by like the shuttle launching like, ⁓ no, we got an extra seat, you wanna ride? Herbie: ⁓ yeah, I would do it. Yeah, I would yeah, I I would do it, man. Like I don't like to fly afraid of heights, but once you're in out of space it's just like Jesus Christ, I'd probably be a nervous wreck, but I would just like be cranking out the Star Wars music. So every time like, you Nancy'd be like, Herbie, how you doing? Like just rocking out in space, you know. So yeah, I would definitely do it. Shamus: Okay. All right. This is the last group of questions and this falls under goals. Number one. What do you consider your greatest accomplishments? Maybe two or three. Herbie: Having the friends that I have in my life, ⁓ having a reputation of just having like the respect of that are not just like at my level but also above. ⁓ I just yeah, those things like a like I feel like those are accomplishments to me. It's just like almost like a personality and and how you interact with people. That's those are accomplishments to me. I'm like I mean if I if I was able to like, you know, make like a a cure for something like that, that's a great accomplishment. ⁓ absolutely just to be like a a decent person or or just have people of all levels like respect ya. I th I think is a huge accomplishment. So those are things I like. Yeah. Shamus: There you go, buddy. Okay. Number two. What's your biggest goal right now? Herbie: Basic goal right now is to get a case of cherry wheat and drink ⁓ with Seamus in the back porch and grill up some shish kebas. Cherry wheat. Cherry wheat. ⁓ yeah, just ⁓ I w I I basically I wanna get the house fixed. ⁓ and I just wanna like improve mom's life, my life. Now, dad's always good. He's always he's out doing his thing. He's just, you know, he's retired and stuff, so he's just living the ⁓ retired life hanging out with my cousins and stuff. So I just want to make sure I wanna fix the household, keep that protected, keep mama protected, and just ⁓ keep living a a healthy life, you know, 'cause, you know, I really do realize, especially working in a hospital, how much health is, how important it is. You know, it could be, you know, your life can be cut short. And that's just th those are like major goals for me. That's, you know, physical ones would actually be the ⁓ fix the house. Shamus: Okay, well like we talked about that before. ⁓ I know a ton of people, man. Let me know what you need and I call buddies up and you know, they're usually pretty good with the pricing and stuff like that. Whatever you need. And if anything I could do to like like if somebody were to come over inside your house ⁓ and I'd be like, yo, where do you need me? I'll help and knock some money off and yeah, we'll get you we'll get you squared away and Christ, I mean between Len, Bob, those guys like you know a ton of people. So we'll get that done for you, brother. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah. Shamus: All right, number three. What makes you nervous about the future? Herbie: The way people are to each other, the the the how divisive everything is, ⁓ the the fact that people are able to say racism, but they're racist themselves. It's just it just seems like it's just like a I don't know, it just it feels like an an invasion of just like people just wanting to just get rid of everything. And it's just it just makes me nervous because I just it just people just wanna hurt each other all the time. And that's and I'm I'm I'm not left, I'm not right, I'm not whatever. It's just like, you know, just you know, I don't think, you know, the way people are doing things right is just wrong, man. The way people are just like hurting each other, killing each other, robbing, looting, the way they're conducting themselves. I think like America, you know, a lot of people can always say ⁓ America's ⁓ you know, not doing great, which I agree. The government, they can hate the government, okay, cool. But I there's a lot of blame for me, I believe, is the citizens. Cause there's a lot of bad citizens out there. And it's just like it's it's not it's not that's not a like a a racial statement and people need to get that shit out of their fucking mouth because I'm tired of hearing that shit. If you're an asshole, you're an asshole. If you're cool, you're cool. That's it. That's and ⁓ if anyone that knows me, that's that's the way I am. So I don't care what the hell you are, I don't care if you're gay, I don't care what your sexual preference is, okay? I don't care if you're a vegan. I don't give a shit. Just be cool. And just be considerate of of the of the people around you and the space that you're in. And I think that's why when I was in Japan, I felt just so relaxed because everything was organized. Everyone was respectful of their own like their own space. If you ⁓ same thing with like the type of feeling I used to get like when I go to Puerto Rico with my family. It's nothing but love, laughter. Everyone's eating, there's music. It's just it's just a wonderful time. I think like there's like a when people go on vacation, they go to other places and they have that euphoric thing of just just complete relaxation. There's no drama, there's none of that bullshit. I'm like, you guys all can have that shit. And I know a lot of people relish in it or they just like just stay in that microcosm or in that general vicinity or area of like that type of trouble and stuff. That that's all you, dude. You You can have it. I don't want it. I want no parts of it. So I just that's the thing that kind of makes me shy away from people and not just you know, and again, not not race, just people. Certain people will just if if if you're you can be whatever color. If you are mean or or bad or you're trying to do bad things, I don't break the law. I'm not looking to hurt anybody. None of that shit. I just don't want to be a part of that. You know, I we my my mom helped. us leave the Bronx because it was just getting bad it was getting bad. And then you know, I always realized too that people shouldn't hang on to the, you know, the gutter 'cause the gutter doesn't give a shit about ya. It really doesn't. So the and my dad's friends, he's lost a lot of friends and I'm like that that type of like street respect, yeah, it's it's cool for like a little bit, but after a while, when you're another corpse hanging in the frickin' gutter, no one's gonna give a shit. So ⁓ what the what the f does the gutter do for you? Get the hell away from it. Just any type of negative thing. Just just as aspire to be better, you know, than yourself. Shamus: Yeah go, bud. Yeah. All right. Number four. Well said, by the way. Thanks, man. Well said. All number four. What quality would you like to have as an old person? Herbie: I would like to be completely with it, like ninety or ninety and just act like I'm like have Alzheimer's. I just want to get away with dealing doing some crazy shit like stealing. Just you know, just being like, you know, not not like Mr. Herbert, like with little kids, but just like, you know, with the ladies, stealing booze, just acting like I don't know what the hell is going on, but just be like a completely like mentally with it old guy. But just having fun with my life and maybe towards the end of my life, I'll start doing those drugs. Like crystal meth all that shit. Cause by that time I'm like, what the hell? You know? I'm like, what was I missing? Like the shrooms and all that? Just try all that shit. You know. Shamus: You gotta let me know we we're tired. We're gonna be a problem. Yeah. Herbie: Like mist Mr. Herbert, you gotta take your Darth Vader helmet off like no I'm Shamus: Try to choke her out with the Jedi like Herbie: Yeah. Mist Mr. Herbert, it's not working. Shamus: That sound is real 'cause you got like the oxygen thing in your nose ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Just let me touch your high knee. I'll give you my watch. ⁓ Shamus: I'll take it if you let me touch your boob. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: All right. Number five, which is the last question. Where do you see yourself in five years? Herbie: Five years I see me traveling more again, seeing friends ⁓ across the pond in Japan I haven't seen in while. ⁓ just trying to improve myself, taking care of mama, ⁓ enjoying all the experiences of life and ⁓ like profession I I've never I don't really have a profession that I'm like super proud of. I mean I work at a hospital and it's in in the kitchen. So it's like I I do it. I this doesn't you know, it's not like I don't think see it as a profession, it's just a job. But I but there's never really any other job I really wanted except like maybe a comedian or something like that, or maybe in the movies, but that's just like, you know very far away from like, you know, the point. But just ⁓ doing the pork with egg and cheese podcast with you. Being with all my friends, man. Just just living my life and trying to stay healthy and just enjoy the time that I have with my friends and my family. That's it, man. Not trying to conquer the world. Shamus: Alright, one last question. This is a bonus question. Okay. When are you gonna buy a new car? Herbie: Never. I love my Jeep. Shamus: With that lottery question. If I won fifty million, I would send that out and have it total redone so it's a brand new jeep. What with all the stickers on it, all the crap on the Herbie: Yeah. All the amenities I want. Like I would actually if like the the the thing I want for my Jeep is like the big huge brush cord that in case there is a zombie apocalypse I could just barrel through people. ⁓ I would like to have almost like a a rack thing on the top where I can actually just like put it like you know, like just almost like you know, like you see like when you people have campers where they sit on top of the camper and there's like, you know, a little table and a chair and shit like that. Shamus: Yeah, you see that the NASCAR races in the infield and shit. Herbie: Something like that, man, or have like a little tent thing on top of it, you know, just like a little multi-functional I don't know, mobile home type deal with like you know badass re and can run over zombies. Shamus: I was gonna say, you ever see them people that that doomsday prep and they take like an old ambulance and make it like a zombie mobile or something or zombie killer mobile? I'm like, man. That's pretty wild. All right, brother. You got anything else you wanna say before we wrap this up? Anything ⁓ that somebody doesn't know about you that you just wanna let fly or Herbie: That's some cool shit, man. ⁓ Jesus. I don't know. But like I mean a lot the people that are listening right now, like either the people that are listening do know me, and then the other ones that don't know are getting to know me. I'm just a weird nerdy dude and I just wanna live life, man. I want to live life in peace. Shamus: Well that's one thing like the people that I know that don't know you who listen to the pot are like, Bro, I gotta meet that guy. ⁓ like I said, they'll you they'll be down the road somewhere and somebody'll be like, You know Herbie? Like, I know Herbie: That'd be cool. Bring them on man because I have all your friends I met so far I'd like too, so yeah. Shamus: You, not me. All right, everybody. This is gonna wrap up this episode. ⁓ like I said, this is part one of ⁓ you know us interviewing each other. Part two will be Herbie asking me the same question.
