Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Formula One hits Japan this weekend. Liam Lawson to race
- 0:02Speaker 1: for the first time since dropping to the Racing Bulls.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Lawson's replacement, who we've already heard from this our, Yuki Sonoda,
- 0:08Speaker 1: will be racing for the main team on Sunday. Eric
- 0:12Speaker 1: Thompson is a motoring journalist and has got up early
- 0:14Speaker 1: for us. Good morning to you, Eric, Good morning Andrew.
- 0:17Speaker 2: How are you.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I am good. Do we expect any bitterness or awkwardness
- 0:20Speaker 1: or maybe some elbow out racing between Liam and Yuki?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Maybe some elbow out racing. Lawson has already shown that
- 0:29Speaker 2: he's not scared of anybody on the track. You know,
- 0:31Speaker 2: he's upset Fernando Alonso and a few other people. So yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I think I don't think elbows out will be an issue.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Is certainly not going to hopefully he's not going to
- 0:40Speaker 2: try and change his driving style. But those two have
- 0:42Speaker 2: been friends since junior junior days, so I think there
- 0:46Speaker 2: will be a little bit of a strain on there.
- 0:49Speaker 2: You know, it's like your best you know, you get
- 0:52Speaker 2: the big gig and then all of a sudden, you
- 0:54Speaker 2: know you're still mate because you've got the big gig,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden you'll sort of move
- 0:58Speaker 2: sideways for your your best mate to get the big gig.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So and you know, egos are a play in that
- 1:05Speaker 2: sport supports, and.
- 1:07Speaker 1: This is what makes it so watchable. So look, this
- 1:09Speaker 1: is a test for Liam, but it's also a test
- 1:12Speaker 1: for the rebel car. Lawson claimed it was a dog,
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yuki said this week it's okay Liam. Fans will want
- 1:19Speaker 1: to see Yuki at the back of the track to
- 1:20Speaker 1: prove that Liam wasn't as bad a driver as some maccount.
- 1:25Speaker 2: What a great soumation Andrew, yes, exactly. But the thing
- 1:28Speaker 2: is Liam Lawson, after his days on the simulator, said
- 1:32Speaker 2: a very similar similar thing to Sonoda before the start
- 1:35Speaker 2: of the sea. He said, Oh, the car's not that bad.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I quite enjoy drying it. But although simulators are close,
- 1:41Speaker 2: they're not the real thing. It's like having virtuality goggles
- 1:45Speaker 2: on and you're playing your immerse inside a game. You know,
- 1:48Speaker 2: you think it's real, but it's not real. And I
- 1:51Speaker 2: think in about fifteen minutes pre practice starts, so in
- 1:56Speaker 2: about half an hour we'll see how good a Sonoda
- 1:59Speaker 2: Isn't that.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I have one last question for you. I have one
- 2:02Speaker 1: last question for you, because this has been worrying me.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Do you think UB's RB twenty one, the Red Bull
- 2:08Speaker 1: car has been fixed in the fortnight since the last race,
- 2:11Speaker 1: changing conditions.
- 2:13Speaker 2: No, because that car's fundamental problem is in the chassis.
- 2:16Speaker 2: It's very nervy at the rear and very pointy at
- 2:20Speaker 2: the front, which means everything's on the front. And there's
- 2:22Speaker 2: very few drivers in the world that can drive a
- 2:24Speaker 2: car like that makes the step and just happens to
- 2:26Speaker 2: be one of them, So there's no way they can
- 2:28Speaker 2: completely change the geometry of their car in a couple
- 2:31Speaker 2: of weeks. They can't try the air over and other things.
