- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I got to come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Our two of Off the Bench Live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Canes Studio.
- 0:29Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in I remember too.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Oh TV here live from the Raising Caines Studio. Jake Flynn,
- 0:36Speaker 3: moose Tte here with you, and of course our guy
- 0:40Speaker 3: doctor Stephen Atherridge back from his vacation doc.
- 0:44Speaker 2: We miss you, brother. Hopefully you had a great vacation.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Great time, great time. Good to get away every now
- 0:48Speaker 4: and then. But have you back as well?
- 0:50Speaker 5: Oh?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Let me ask you this.
- 0:51Speaker 6: So you go to the beach, are you a like
- 0:53Speaker 6: a beach sitter, like a beach relaxer or from the
- 0:56Speaker 6: beach too? Remember moving like cause when not go to
- 1:00Speaker 6: the beach, it's like like I love the beach like relaxing.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Isn't that relaxing to me? Like I gotta be kind
- 1:06Speaker 2: of doing.
- 1:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm more in that camp.
- 1:08Speaker 4: And sometimes that's difficult cause my wife is more in
- 1:10Speaker 4: the hass want to go set up camp and chill
- 1:11Speaker 4: and sit in the lounge chair and and and gets frustrated.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I can't do that you know, I got after five minutes.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I want to go, you know, jump in the water
- 1:18Speaker 4: and get a boogie boards, throw a throw a line
- 1:19Speaker 4: in the water, do something. But yeah, you know, yeah,
- 1:21Speaker 4: I have a hard time standing still as well.
- 1:23Speaker 7: So enjoy the beach. Just just it's a different expreed.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You have a hard time sitting still, Flynn.
- 1:28Speaker 6: It's the weirdest thing. Like someone in the chat earlier said,
- 1:30Speaker 6: Flynn seems like a lazy river guy. Like I can
- 1:33Speaker 6: go a few laps. I ain't gonna be there for
- 1:36Speaker 6: an hour.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I can do a little bit of both. Like if
- 1:39Speaker 3: the kiddos want to throw the football, let's go. If
- 1:42Speaker 3: they want to do something in the water, let's go.
- 1:44Speaker 3: But man, I can sit there with a nice cold
- 1:46Speaker 3: do Sechi's in hand, some good tunes on the speaker.
- 1:50Speaker 7: It does help.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I will say, good, good tunes and a cold beverage
- 1:54Speaker 4: makes a difference. I will say that that also does.
- 1:56Speaker 4: That gives me something to do. So I'm doing something there. Okay,
- 1:59Speaker 4: mid motion.
- 2:00Speaker 2: It's going from here.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Yeah, small emotions, that's okay.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Doctor.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Have you ever been in a situation, you know before
- 2:07Speaker 6: we're talking vacation, So there's You've seen it in every movie.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Have you ever been in a situation in a restaurant,
- 2:15Speaker 6: an airplane, a bus, anywhere where something happens and some
- 2:19Speaker 6: lady is trying to help somebody in screams we need
- 2:23Speaker 6: a doctor.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Is there a doctor in there?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Fortunately, not a lot, but I've had a few, you know.
- 2:29Speaker 4: One one was at an airport and you know, actually
- 2:31Speaker 4: was a loud speaker, and I'm like, man, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 4: on the one hand, I don't want to be that
- 2:35Speaker 4: guy comes running kind of looking like a fool, but
- 2:37Speaker 4: you obviously if somebody needs helped, you want to you
- 2:38Speaker 4: want to help them.
- 2:39Speaker 7: And and it was.
- 2:40Speaker 2: A big airport.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I think it was in Dallas, but it was like
- 2:42Speaker 4: I looked at the gate I was at and they're
- 2:44Speaker 4: like a gate away.
- 2:44Speaker 7: I was like, okay, I got to respond to that.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Yeah, So I kind of hustled over as guy that
- 2:48Speaker 4: actually it seemed to have had a stroke, and so,
- 2:51Speaker 4: you know, it was, it happens, and you know, it's
- 2:54Speaker 4: kind of a catch twenty two because you don't want
- 2:56Speaker 4: to be overly eager for something that doesn't need your assistance,
- 2:59Speaker 4: but if you're able to assist, I tried to nothing
- 3:02Speaker 4: too crazy, no fantastic stories.
- 3:04Speaker 6: But that's pretty that's pretty I felt like, that's pretty fantastic.
- 3:11Speaker 6: You don't I want to be like the superhero right
- 3:13Speaker 6: And in point I was set the scope out of
- 3:14Speaker 6: your back pocket.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Well, I don't like the big time people, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 4: because usually you have the scene and somebody's there and
- 3:20Speaker 4: and you know, they seem to know what they're doing.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I kind of I don't want to be like, hey,
- 3:22Speaker 4: I'm a doctor, I do knowing me that guy. But
- 3:24Speaker 4: but on the other hand, if somebody needs help or
- 3:26Speaker 4: you know, I've had a few times where maybe the
- 3:28Speaker 4: person that was doing something, you know, even like some
- 3:30Speaker 4: little league games when I was coaching my son's team
- 3:33Speaker 4: walked out once the kid had gotten hurt, and I
- 3:35Speaker 4: didn't want to, you know, the other coach didn't know
- 3:36Speaker 4: if I was it was one of their kids. I'm like,
- 3:38Speaker 4: you know, I kind of said, hey, let me kind
- 3:39Speaker 4: of step in here, because they were not really handling.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It in a way that was appropriate.
- 3:43Speaker 7: Yeah, but I did. I tried to not you know,
- 3:46Speaker 7: big time people, but it's not.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Talking to you, professor. I would do it all the time. Uh,
- 3:54Speaker 2: I am a doctor. I went to school for a
- 3:56Speaker 2: long out of a doctorate.
- 3:57Speaker 3: This okay, So well, speaking of that, I was thinking
- 4:01Speaker 3: about you the other day because we're watching the World
- 4:03Speaker 3: Cup and and look, I know that all the Tommy
- 4:06Speaker 3: Tough guys like there's too many injuries in soccer, faking
- 4:08Speaker 3: injuries and blah blah blah. And I know it's a
- 4:11Speaker 3: part of the game, but for you, like it's part
- 4:14Speaker 3: of the medical staff, Like, how do you think you
- 4:16Speaker 3: would handle that?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Like not really knowing, Like, Okay, what do we got
- 4:20Speaker 2: going on here? Like, buddy, are you hurt?
- 4:22Speaker 3: They got the magic spree out there, and there's hey
- 4:25Speaker 3: you stopped?
- 4:26Speaker 2: This is safe in your question because you're gonna hate
- 4:29Speaker 2: on it.
- 4:29Speaker 4: You know, I would love to get some of the
- 4:31Speaker 4: magic spray. I've not figured out how it works yet. Yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 4: you know, I'm not sure what was there, Like I'm
- 4:36Speaker 4: assuming it's just like some some ethyl chloride or something
- 4:39Speaker 4: in that cooling spray or something.
- 4:40Speaker 6: But are soccer doctors just way better than football doctors.
- 4:43Speaker 4: You know, they seem to fix catastrophic injuries very quickly
- 4:47Speaker 4: on the field, which I've not been able to.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Do, you know.
- 4:50Speaker 4: But uh, but but well, look, we've talked about it
- 4:53Speaker 4: before with the guys that that you know, and they
- 4:54Speaker 4: just need to breather when the other team's going too fast.
- 4:56Speaker 4: In football, it's kind of the same thing, you know.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I think you have to know what you're gonna do advance.
- 5:00Speaker 4: You have to try to do your best to not
- 5:03Speaker 4: you know, be laughing out there and showing it on
- 5:05Speaker 4: your face, because I've had a few of those where
- 5:07Speaker 4: I really had to hold it in. But but I
- 5:08Speaker 4: mean we see it a little bit.
- 5:09Speaker 7: Uh.
- 5:10Speaker 4: You know, soccer it is more dramatic, and that's one
- 5:12Speaker 4: of the things I think that does turn some people
- 5:13Speaker 4: off on it. But on the other hand, soccer injuries
- 5:16Speaker 4: or real soccer is a contact, violent sport. I want
- 5:19Speaker 4: to question number is actually it's very high. It's very high,
- 5:22Speaker 4: and that's something you know. It's funny how I remember
- 5:24Speaker 4: the movie Concussion came out. The Will Smith movie was
- 5:27Speaker 4: based on the true story with and and the number
- 5:29Speaker 4: of people it seemed that pulled their kids those first
- 5:31Speaker 4: couple of years out of football and a lot of
- 5:34Speaker 4: those ship that to soccer because of the concussion concerns.
- 5:36Speaker 4: And I'm like, listen, y'all, you know, probably moving into
- 5:40Speaker 4: golf for something that that's why you're doing it because
- 5:42Speaker 4: case soccer is very I mean again, you'd a lot
- 5:45Speaker 4: of head contact, and.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Women's women's soccer is like the highest number.
- 5:48Speaker 7: It is and NCAA in year by year.
- 5:52Speaker 4: In NCAAA it will fluctuate a little bit, but the
- 5:54Speaker 4: top three are always ice hockey, women's soccer, and football,
- 5:57Speaker 4: and in many of the recent years it's been women's
- 5:59Speaker 4: soccer ice hockey.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Those helmets are like flimsy. Yeah, they're so aggressive. I
- 6:04Speaker 2: love it.
- 6:05Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I gave it.
- 6:08Speaker 3: We did have one of the US stars, Christian Polistic,
- 6:12Speaker 3: went out with injury and his was an ankle deal.
- 6:16Speaker 2: So he went to go shoot a shot at the ball.
- 6:19Speaker 3: The defender puts his leg in front of the ball,
- 6:22Speaker 3: so he kind of kicks the other guys and it's
- 6:25Speaker 3: like right there at the top of the foot and
- 6:28Speaker 3: he just unfortunately for him, he had a really bad tournament.
- 6:31Speaker 3: But then he looked like he tried to go a
- 6:33Speaker 3: little bit and just couldn't go. And in soccer, I
- 6:37Speaker 3: have to imagine your right foot and if it was us,
- 6:40Speaker 3: like you would tape the ankle up and be like, hey,
- 6:42Speaker 3: get out there and go. But I have to imagine
- 6:44Speaker 3: if you have any kind of an ankle spring in
- 6:46Speaker 3: soccer on your main leg that you're kicking with primary leg,
- 6:50Speaker 3: can't really tape it out.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and again that's where the difference in sports is
- 6:54Speaker 4: so important.
- 6:55Speaker 7: You know.
- 6:55Speaker 4: It's again to your point, if a football player, the
- 6:57Speaker 4: number of times we've just spatted that thing up, you
- 7:00Speaker 4: can't even move that foot.
- 7:01Speaker 7: But you know you're gonna be a little bit limited.
- 7:03Speaker 4: You're probably gonna be quite as quick, You're gona have
- 7:04Speaker 4: a hard time pushing off, but you can still do
- 7:06Speaker 4: it whatever it is most of the times in soccer. Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 4: you're right, it just a the kicking aspect changes everything.
- 7:13Speaker 4: And then and then yeah, the side to side, the
- 7:15Speaker 4: lateral movements which are gonna be comple in football, but
- 7:17Speaker 4: it's it's it's tough, and in that scenario, I think
- 7:21Speaker 4: it is gonna be a little bit more of a
- 7:22Speaker 4: limiting injury for sure.
- 7:24Speaker 6: Doc, I've I've heard the argument before and kind of
- 7:28Speaker 6: people debating back and forth about knee injuries. ACL injuries
- 7:33Speaker 6: of course very prolific in football, and the argument has
- 7:38Speaker 6: always been made between football and soccer, like why there's
- 7:41Speaker 6: not as many ACL teyars in soccer, Like, of course
- 7:44Speaker 6: in football it's contact, so you do see that. But
- 7:47Speaker 6: I would say most of the injuries that we see
- 7:48Speaker 6: is non contact injuries to the knee. And people are like, well,
- 7:52Speaker 6: why are these athletes of football tearing their knee up
- 7:55Speaker 6: more than so like soccer is just as you know,
- 7:58Speaker 6: if it's a non contact injuries not contact injury. And
- 8:01Speaker 6: the argument and people talked about and debated about ankle taping,
- 8:06Speaker 6: ankle taping and football is everywhere, right, ankle tape and
- 8:09Speaker 6: ankle braces and soccer it's not. And I guess the
- 8:13Speaker 6: mindset and the argument the debate's all about, well, if
- 8:16Speaker 6: you trained with it, you're strengthening the ankle muscles, which
- 8:19Speaker 6: you know, that's the old song, the tailbones connected to
- 8:22Speaker 6: the leg bone, leg bones connected to the foot bone,
- 8:23Speaker 6: and all that stuff. Like everything gets strengthened around it,
- 8:27Speaker 6: which supports the knee when it goes the wrong way,
- 8:30Speaker 6: Like if your knee buckles out, well you got the
- 8:33Speaker 6: you got the ankle muscles, the calf muscles that have
- 8:35Speaker 6: been trained without the tape to kind of protect it.
- 8:39Speaker 6: And does ankle taping or knee bracing over a long
- 8:46Speaker 6: period of time weaken the muscles and ligaments.
- 8:48Speaker 7: You know that that's one concern with bracing.
- 8:50Speaker 4: You know, even when I see patients with an injury
- 8:53Speaker 4: in my clinic, I don't like to brace them too
- 8:56Speaker 4: aggressively unless it's necessary. You don't like to immobilize when
- 8:59Speaker 4: you don't have to. And again it's always a fine
- 9:01Speaker 4: line because you know, obviously if you have an injury,
- 9:04Speaker 4: or if you're trying to prevent an injury, sometimes there's
- 9:05Speaker 4: things you can do. I think a lot of it
- 9:08Speaker 4: does come down to the footwear, whether you're talking about
- 9:10Speaker 4: the cleat itself, but also the ankle taping and bracing
- 9:13Speaker 4: and all that anything that It's just like in a back,
- 9:15Speaker 4: if you do a fusion on the vertebrae, we know
- 9:18Speaker 4: that the vertebrae above and below are going to be
- 9:20Speaker 4: under more stress and you're going to see more problems
- 9:23Speaker 4: in those areas. So sometimes it's something you still have
- 9:25Speaker 4: to do, but you know doing that that in a
- 9:27Speaker 4: few years those people are likely to have a problem
- 9:29Speaker 4: above or below that that fusion.
- 9:31Speaker 7: Well, it's kind of the same idea.
- 9:32Speaker 4: If you mobilize one joint, you got to kind of
- 9:35Speaker 4: go to the next one in the chain and you're
- 9:36Speaker 4: gonna see a few more issues.
- 9:37Speaker 7: So I think that is a part of it.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I think the cleats, you know, typically the soccer cleats
- 9:41Speaker 4: are a little bit shallower, so you're not gonna have
- 9:43Speaker 4: the foot stick in the ground as much. You know,
- 9:45Speaker 4: that's one of the things that's often been talked about
- 9:47Speaker 4: as well. And then just the nature of the types
- 9:49Speaker 4: of motions, you know, with soccer, it's it's a little bit,
- 9:51Speaker 4: you know, typically a little more of more of a
- 9:53Speaker 4: graceful kind of side to side, as you're not planting
- 9:56Speaker 4: and pushing quite as hard as consistently. I think probably
- 9:58Speaker 4: all those apply. I think you gotta consider all that
- 10:01Speaker 4: when you looking at it.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Well, the only sport that ankle taping is commonplace for
- 10:08Speaker 6: every single day, practice, games, everything, you.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Probably so I can't think of another one. We mentioned hockey.
- 10:14Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, I've never take care of a hockey team,
- 10:16Speaker 4: so maybe I don't know what they do. They're in skates,
- 10:17Speaker 4: I guess. So, I mean, you would think basketball has
- 10:19Speaker 4: got to be more aggressive on the knee joint.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, tape, and.
- 10:22Speaker 4: You don't see a cls and basketball tape, basketball tea,
- 10:27Speaker 4: some of them do but not not as consistently, not
- 10:29Speaker 4: not as prophylactically.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Yeah, like football, you got fined if you didn't have
- 10:33Speaker 3: your ankles tape.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah we did. I mean it's still that way. It's
- 10:37Speaker 2: it's you have to have something on the ankle.
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's depending on the team you're with. I will say
- 10:41Speaker 4: some some trainers, some teams have have started to move
- 10:44Speaker 4: away a little bit from the profile active bracing, whether
- 10:46Speaker 4: it's taping, whether it's ankle braces, whether it's knee braces.
- 10:48Speaker 4: You know, because some of the data does suggest that
- 10:50Speaker 4: maybe we shouldn't do quite as much of it. But
- 10:52Speaker 4: you know a lot of people still go back to
- 10:53Speaker 4: the kind of old school mentality, We're gonna tape everything,
- 10:55Speaker 4: We're gonna brace everything. If you're an O line and
- 10:57Speaker 4: you're wearing the big knee brace, you know, it's it's
- 10:59Speaker 4: but if you look at some of the data, it's
- 11:01Speaker 4: it's it's not always supportive of those activities. So it's
- 11:04Speaker 4: it's you're seeing some teams do it. I'm gonna get
- 11:05Speaker 4: because it's so much contact, a lot of rolling up
- 11:08Speaker 4: on your ankles.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And DB's receivers running backs. I would never have them.
- 11:12Speaker 7: I never liked Havin Tape, and I mean personally when.
- 11:14Speaker 6: My high school coach used to make me wear a
- 11:16Speaker 6: knee brace in practice and it was like not like
- 11:19Speaker 6: it was like the sleeve knee brace with the metal
- 11:21Speaker 6: thing that went inside the sleeve, and I would take
- 11:24Speaker 6: it off for game day because I didn't want to
- 11:26Speaker 6: wear it in the game and I felt like my
- 11:28Speaker 6: knee was so weak.
- 11:30Speaker 4: That there's something to that, probably, and whether it's whether
- 11:32Speaker 4: it's a psychological thing, there's also some reality to it
- 11:34Speaker 4: again again, because if you don't use things the normal way,
- 11:37Speaker 4: or if you take some of that stability out naturally,
- 11:39Speaker 4: it is you know, I think that there's something for that.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Like I said, I I try not to overbrace, and
- 11:44Speaker 4: my clinic with anybody, even my patients who are older
- 11:46Speaker 4: that you know, do you think of this little you know,
- 11:48Speaker 4: old lady who broke her ankle. You want to keep
- 11:50Speaker 4: her in a in a boot as long as possible,
- 11:52Speaker 4: and you need to let the injury heal. But I
- 11:53Speaker 4: also want to get them moving as quickly as possible
- 11:55Speaker 4: because it's so hard to get those things strong with
- 11:57Speaker 4: you if you im mobilize them too long.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Let's commission the study let's do it right here, okay, sure,
- 12:02Speaker 2: front of the bill. Well, no, we can do for free. Okay.
- 12:06Speaker 3: One of the things that I do want to go
- 12:08Speaker 3: back to is like the size of your cleats and
- 12:10Speaker 3: the length of your cleat. Some people might roll their
- 12:13Speaker 3: eyes at that, they might think that doesn't matter. It
- 12:15Speaker 3: absolutely does. I always give the example. So we didn't
- 12:19Speaker 3: have rain ever in San Diego. We just didn't have it.
- 12:22Speaker 3: And we were about to play on either Sunday or
- 12:24Speaker 3: Monday night, and it started to rain and they panicked
- 12:28Speaker 3: a little bit because the field wasn't ready to handle rain, right,
- 12:31Speaker 3: and so it was a little bit of water on
- 12:33Speaker 3: the field and they made all of us like immediately,
- 12:35Speaker 3: like change your cleats, change your cleats, put the long screwing.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And so we did all that and it wasn't needed.
- 12:44Speaker 3: And I remember, so we're warming up after that and
- 12:47Speaker 3: I go and my cleats get kind of stuck in
- 12:49Speaker 3: the ground and my foot gets stuck and I can
- 12:51Speaker 3: hear my plan or pop so planet fast, Yeah like
- 12:54Speaker 3: it is you girl, like a lot.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Like I was like, what the hell just happened there?
- 12:58Speaker 3: So go to the side line to take my cleat
- 13:00Speaker 3: off the bottom of my foot is black and blue
- 13:03Speaker 3: like it was.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Just I was like, this looks like h was it?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Is it? Mister Deeds?
- 13:07Speaker 3: Yeah right, yeah, that's what it looked like, the butler
- 13:11Speaker 3: And it was because I didn't need those long cleats
- 13:15Speaker 3: and they put them on and I got stuck in
- 13:16Speaker 3: the ground and my body was going my foot was
- 13:19Speaker 3: stuck behind, and you could like, I don't know if
- 13:21Speaker 3: you could hear it, but in my mind you could
- 13:23Speaker 3: hear it pop.
- 13:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it definitely makes a difference.
- 13:25Speaker 4: And look on both sides of it, I mean, because
- 13:26Speaker 4: you'll you'll see if you don't have the right cleat
- 13:28Speaker 4: or a long enough cleaned or the wrong shit, you're
- 13:30Speaker 4: gonna belipping. I mean, we've all gone out and tried
- 13:31Speaker 4: to run a pass route or your kids practice in
- 13:34Speaker 4: the grass a little wet and you're in your tennis.
- 13:35Speaker 7: Shoes and eat it at as I know I have.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And oh uh so, I mean, you know, obviously there
- 13:39Speaker 4: there's there's there's a give and take there, but but
- 13:42Speaker 4: I think it's not as simple as one thing.
- 13:44Speaker 7: It's probably all the above.
- 13:45Speaker 4: And then you just got to look at the athletes too,
- 13:47Speaker 4: you know, you look at you know, we've talked something
- 13:48Speaker 4: about the physics of the force that's applied. And you
- 13:50Speaker 4: have a bigger, heavier individual with that much mass and
- 13:53Speaker 4: that much motion, you're gonna also have some higher instance
- 13:56Speaker 4: of injuries.
- 13:56Speaker 7: So there's a lot of variables to go into it.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Doc, I just want to say, first, you're welcome for
- 14:03Speaker 6: having the Tour de France on in front of you.
- 14:05Speaker 7: Yeah, to watch this live landscapes.
- 14:09Speaker 2: It's beautiful, it's a it's a fantastic covers.
- 14:11Speaker 6: They got a helicopter flying around film and they got
- 14:14Speaker 6: guys with great accents talking to you. Do you have
- 14:18Speaker 6: any So every time there's all sorts of bike crashes
- 14:21Speaker 6: in this thing, like big ones. Every time like one
- 14:23Speaker 6: of these guys falls off a bike, they pretty much
- 14:25Speaker 6: break their collar bone. Do you see in the clink?
- 14:28Speaker 6: Do you see a lot of You see a lot
- 14:30Speaker 6: of cyclists come through there.
- 14:32Speaker 4: We do, and I and and and I think you
- 14:33Speaker 4: hit the nail. That probably the most common when I
- 14:35Speaker 4: see his broken collar bones. That's you see those a
- 14:37Speaker 4: lot when they you know.
- 14:38Speaker 6: People are like you break your collar butone when you fall,
- 14:41Speaker 6: like putting your elbow down, like trying to brace.
- 14:43Speaker 4: You anything where you fall, right on the shoulder if
- 14:46Speaker 4: if you come down on an extended extremity that something
- 14:49Speaker 4: really impacts in from the shoulder end, you're going to
- 14:52Speaker 4: see that a lot or from the ground up you'll
- 14:54Speaker 4: you'll see it a lot of times as well. And
- 14:55Speaker 4: a lot of these bike injureds that happen so fast,
- 14:57Speaker 4: you know, they're not able to to land and roll
- 14:59Speaker 4: the pro really they got the bike strapped to them,
- 15:01Speaker 4: so they're coming right down the side of their shoulder
- 15:03Speaker 4: and things like that, going over the handlebars. But we
- 15:05Speaker 4: see I see a lot of collarbone injuries and and
- 15:07Speaker 4: and whether it's you know, people who are i'd say
- 15:09Speaker 4: are novice cyclists all the way up to the people
- 15:13Speaker 4: who are doing this, you know professionally, you see a
- 15:14Speaker 4: lot of those. And you know, I've seen a lot
- 15:16Speaker 4: of people they went out like mountain bike in they
- 15:18Speaker 4: come in and see us and all banged.
- 15:20Speaker 6: Does so do you have any recommendations, like like you
- 15:22Speaker 6: could break your collarbone falling walking down the road right
- 15:24Speaker 6: like so they're landing, okay, I just I want to
- 15:27Speaker 6: know how to fall without breaking the collarbone. Like in
- 15:30Speaker 6: my Atlantic is the side of the should like the
- 15:32Speaker 6: delt straight down. I need to try to roll over
- 15:35Speaker 6: to the scap like, how do I need to fall
- 15:36Speaker 6: in the ground? Well, I think you want to go
- 15:38Speaker 6: with the fall.
- 15:38Speaker 4: But like I said, sometimes when you're kind of strapped
- 15:40Speaker 4: in the bike, I think that's part of the problem too.
- 15:41Speaker 4: You know, you can't do it so because typically the
- 15:44Speaker 4: best way to fall. You know, it's funny. I was
- 15:46Speaker 4: learned to snowboard, and because I had played football, the
- 15:49Speaker 4: guy it was like, man, you're really good at falling,
- 15:51Speaker 4: you know.
- 15:52Speaker 7: It's like he's like I was like, well, yeah, great falling,
- 15:55Speaker 7: great faller.
- 15:56Speaker 4: But yeah, because you got to kind of roll with
- 15:57Speaker 4: you got to kind of know how to fall and
- 15:58Speaker 4: and and sometimes you just can't it though you are,
- 16:00Speaker 4: the reflexes kick in. You know, sometimes the worst thing
- 16:02Speaker 4: to do is stick that arm out and fall in
- 16:04Speaker 4: that outstress hand. You're gonna break a wrist, you're gonna
- 16:06Speaker 4: break it an elbow, you have something. And but on
- 16:08Speaker 4: the other hand, you don't want to hit your face
- 16:10Speaker 4: on the pavement too. So again, sometimes it's a you know,
- 16:12Speaker 4: you gotta kind of weigh those options.
- 16:15Speaker 7: You don't have time to think.
- 16:16Speaker 6: About it at the time. Yeah, life doesn't slow down
- 16:19Speaker 6: from no, it doesn't. So would you rather fall in
- 16:21Speaker 6: your face or break a collar?
- 16:22Speaker 7: Bhone, I mean the face plays, so I guess the collarbone.
- 16:26Speaker 2: So all right, so sex sales.
- 16:30Speaker 6: You can't hurt the exactly right, So you're collar with
- 16:34Speaker 6: so we we the screws?
- 16:36Speaker 2: Is it plates? Is it natural healing over time?
- 16:39Speaker 4: Most of them are natural healing. Even you know, the
- 16:41Speaker 4: one thing I'll tell patients collarbones. It's the most forgiving
- 16:43Speaker 4: bone in the body. You'll look at a collarbone fracture
- 16:45Speaker 4: sometimes and it'll look gnarly, it'll be in a couple
- 16:47Speaker 4: of pieces, it'll be overlapping. You're like, oh, you're gonna
- 16:50Speaker 4: fix that, right, and a lot of times like nah,
- 16:52Speaker 4: we're gonna leave that alone.
- 16:52Speaker 7: We're lot of heel.
- 16:53Speaker 4: You might have a little bump there, but functionally you're
- 16:55Speaker 4: gonna be well, you're gonna do fine. Long term, you're
- 16:57Speaker 4: gonna heal just fine with the with the pretty bad right,
- 17:00Speaker 4: Sometimes yes, you will need to go in and usually
- 17:02Speaker 4: it's going to be a plate with some screws to
- 17:04Speaker 4: kind of stabilize it and hold it in place. But
- 17:06Speaker 4: but I will say the vast majority collarbones, even the
- 17:09Speaker 4: ones that look bad, were probably gonna leave them alone.
- 17:12Speaker 4: There's something definitely get fixed. But a collarbone is kind
- 17:15Speaker 4: of like a floating bone to a little bit, right.
- 17:17Speaker 6: I had I had them, say therapist one time because
- 17:19Speaker 6: I had as a thrower, I had a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 6: situations with the right shoulder. It's actually I got under
- 17:24Speaker 6: my collarbone and like lifted it up and it like
- 17:27Speaker 6: stretched the the ligaments and the tent is like connected
- 17:30Speaker 6: that connect there.
- 17:32Speaker 4: But it's yeah, it's a it's a high stress spot,
- 17:34Speaker 4: but it's also kind of it is kind of by
- 17:35Speaker 4: itself in a way. I mean, it's attached on both ends,
- 17:38Speaker 4: but there's not much in between other than muscular attachments.
- 17:41Speaker 8: So it was.
- 17:43Speaker 7: Wi you Yeah, those those issues.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I mean, you know, whether it's the collarbone, the ac joint,
- 17:48Speaker 4: which is the one that's at the shoulder, or the
- 17:49Speaker 4: stonnakle victor the st joint at the chest area, both
- 17:53Speaker 4: those are painful injuries you know when people have them.
- 17:55Speaker 4: So we see a lot of those, a lot of
- 17:57Speaker 4: you know, you mentioned the cycling injuries that sometimes they
- 17:58Speaker 4: don't break the collarbone, but will sprain those joints as well.
- 18:01Speaker 4: It's kind of a similar mechanism. Uh see that in
- 18:03Speaker 4: a lot of sports, football very common to see the
- 18:05Speaker 4: AC injuries. So I mean, why do I have.
- 18:07Speaker 6: A bump here from my AC sprain? I still have
- 18:09Speaker 6: a bump here. It's a gift from the football gods,
- 18:11Speaker 6: is what I like to say. It's just a bump.
- 18:13Speaker 6: It's gonna be there forever.
- 18:14Speaker 7: It's gonna be there forever.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Yet at this point issue, well, you're probably a little
- 18:17Speaker 4: bit of scarring, and more likely than not, you probably
- 18:19Speaker 4: had what we would say was like at least a
- 18:21Speaker 4: grade two a C sprain, which is where the collar
- 18:23Speaker 4: bone comes into the acromium. They were supposed to be
- 18:26Speaker 4: lined up perfectly, but if sometimes the clavical or the
- 18:28Speaker 4: collarbone raises up a little bit because some of those
- 18:31Speaker 4: ligaments that hold it in place get torn. So a
- 18:33Speaker 4: sprain can be a tear. They're kind of the same thing.
- 18:35Speaker 4: So you probably had a grade two. It's probably kind
- 18:39Speaker 4: of settled in, scarred in with calcified light. A kane
- 18:43Speaker 4: that they shot into my shoulder during the Arkansas game, well,
- 18:45Speaker 4: that would never happen.
- 18:49Speaker 2: You never. They didn't get three shots, of course.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Not No, it it's you know, it's it's it's that's
- 18:53Speaker 4: actually a common presentation with ac sprains, where we're just
- 18:56Speaker 4: if it if it is a little bit of a
- 18:58Speaker 4: worse sprain, a little bit more of a higher grade sprain,
- 19:00Speaker 4: you're gonna see that bump there. But again, functionally long term,
- 19:03Speaker 4: just like the collarbone, people do just fine with them.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Where were you at, Jake during that game?
- 19:08Speaker 6: Like in Versity Blues Billy Bob says, like, I swear,
- 19:11Speaker 6: guy that needle comes anywhere near him.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I was like, get a bigger needle to put Where
- 19:16Speaker 2: were you.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Trying to protect all of his that he's probably got
- 19:19Speaker 3: a brace on too.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Yeah, Jake was like, no, I stick more needles in him.
- 19:23Speaker 6: I was out there toting We're a true friend, trying
- 19:26Speaker 6: to protect me. You were trying to come out of
- 19:28Speaker 6: the tonnel like Shane Falco and get the crowd to
- 19:30Speaker 6: go wild and be like me, me.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Everybody, I'm back.
- 19:35Speaker 3: There's no big name plate guy, There's no doubt I
- 19:38Speaker 3: was out there just trying to, you know, get a
- 19:40Speaker 3: victory for our team.
- 19:42Speaker 7: We had now cheerleaders over here.
- 19:44Speaker 2: We had a real want for a win.
- 19:46Speaker 6: You know, we're just giving We're just giving up speed
- 19:49Speaker 6: out routes on fourth and ten five stepped, no hitch
- 19:54Speaker 6: throw first down on fourth and ten. Come on, oh,
- 19:57Speaker 6: Casey Dick quarterback.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Whatever. Anyways, we still won. We're good, uh, Doc, we
- 20:04Speaker 2: appreciate it.
- 20:04Speaker 7: Always a pleasure last week.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So glad to have you back in studio with us.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Thank you, and we're we're excited for training.
- 20:11Speaker 7: Camp right around the corner, right around the corner.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Cause football season. But I gotta I gotta think that
- 20:18Speaker 2: training camp is still a grind.
- 20:19Speaker 4: It's a grind, yeah, because we try to have a
- 20:21Speaker 4: presence with especially early on because there's so much that
- 20:23Speaker 4: can happen those first few prizes between the heat and everything.
- 20:25Speaker 4: So so yeah, Mike, my skeed is a little bit
- 20:27Speaker 4: more chaotic really throughout football, but definitely during camp.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I gotta go on to camp tour. It's gonna be
- 20:33Speaker 3: a oo. It's gonna be a two weeks, Doc. You
- 20:37Speaker 3: you might need to come in and co host with
- 20:38Speaker 3: Flynn here, Bud. All right, Doc, we appreciate it.
- 20:42Speaker 7: It's always a pleasure.
- 20:43Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:44Speaker 3: We'll take great more OTB when we come back here
- 20:46Speaker 3: live from the Raisin Kane studio. Off the bench, all right,
- 20:51Speaker 3: go to fabt dot First American Bank and Trust been

- 20:59Speaker 3: to help you out. But the thing kind of sets
- 21:01Speaker 3: them apart is they're going to know your name, they're
- 21:03Speaker 3: going to know your face, They're gonna have a relationship
- 21:05Speaker 3: with you. You're not just going to be an account
- 21:07Speaker 3: number for them like you would be with some big
- 21:09Speaker 3: national bank. And also, decisions are made right here locally.

- 21:20Speaker 2: Go to the website today fabt dot com.

- 21:31Speaker 6: the last one hundred years, they've been doing business with

- 23:08Speaker 3: lunch bar, the salad bar, the sushi bar, the rotisserie chickens,
- 23:11Speaker 3: the pre made meals already ready to go, and you
- 23:14Speaker 3: go in, you can grab one and it is an
- 23:16Speaker 3: incredible meal. But also, obviously for your groceries, they've got
- 23:20Speaker 3: so much local flavor at your local rouses.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And hey, I.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Don't know if you're into perfect hydration, but you should
- 23:26Speaker 3: be and you're gonna get perfect hydration because all of
- 23:29Speaker 3: your local rouses are going to have my high in
- 23:32Speaker 3: them as well.
- 23:33Speaker 2: So go to rouses dot com today. All right.
- 23:38Speaker 3: One of the for me at least, and I can't
- 23:40Speaker 3: speak for the room. One of my favorite parts about
- 23:42Speaker 3: having our guy Moose here with us is we get
- 23:44Speaker 3: a chance to get a little update on like LSU baseball,
- 23:47Speaker 3: and it is now it's a sport certainly here that
- 23:51Speaker 3: is almost year round, but this is a key time
- 23:54Speaker 3: for LSU baseball. They didn't have the season that anybody
- 23:57Speaker 3: wanted a year ago, and over the last couple of
- 23:59Speaker 3: days and weeks they have added through the transfer portal.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Now we've done a quick hit on Hey, here's what
- 24:04Speaker 3: they added, Here's what he did at his last stop.
- 24:07Speaker 3: But I am not going to pretend to know LSU baseball.
- 24:10Speaker 2: More than our guy Moose.
- 24:11Speaker 3: So Moose, you get a couple of players over the
- 24:14Speaker 3: last couple of weeks, including a big bat from Oregon.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I didn't get a chance, and typically, like on the
- 24:20Speaker 3: way out, I get a chance to at least ask
- 24:22Speaker 3: you some questions before we head out for the day.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Didn't get a chance to do that.
- 24:26Speaker 3: So what is LSU getting in their latest portal edition
- 24:30Speaker 3: A Jelia. Yeah, I mean they're getting first and foremost
- 24:34Speaker 3: a freshman All American this past season at Regan.
- 24:38Speaker 8: I mean, this is a guy great size to very projectable.
- 24:42Speaker 8: He's at six to two hundred already. I mean, you
- 24:46Speaker 8: hear all the time about freshman bursting onto the scene.
- 24:48Speaker 8: I mean, look at Derek Curry Ill. Obviously in twenty
- 24:50Speaker 8: twenty five we got on the list of LSU, But
- 24:52Speaker 8: if you look at Angela burst on the scene kind
- 24:55Speaker 8: of an understatement. In ten of his first twelve college
- 24:58Speaker 8: games ever, he had at least one hit, and he
- 25:00Speaker 8: just kind of carried that over throughout the entire season.
- 25:04Speaker 8: And look, I understand the Big Ten is not the
- 25:06Speaker 8: best baseball conference in the world, but it's still powerful competition.
- 25:11Speaker 8: As a freshman, that's a guy who went and finished
- 25:14Speaker 8: second on the team in HOMERS as a freshman and
- 25:17Speaker 8: second on the team in RBI as a freshman. So
- 25:19Speaker 8: I mean you're getting a major bat, a guy who's
- 25:21Speaker 8: going to come in an impact immediately, most likely play
- 25:25Speaker 8: right field for LSU. But the thing I like most
- 25:28Speaker 8: about him, guys is when he's a freshman, he's got
- 25:31Speaker 8: two years left. I mean, that's a guy you can
- 25:32Speaker 8: get in and you can have him impact immediately, retain
- 25:37Speaker 8: him and have him in your program for two seasons
- 25:39Speaker 8: and maybe even take a step up again in his
- 25:42Speaker 8: draft year. It's just it's an area that LSU, especially
- 25:46Speaker 8: under Jay Johnson, has had a lot of success with
- 25:48Speaker 8: multi year transfers. I mean, think about Tommy White, you
- 25:50Speaker 8: think about Riley Cooper, you think about Chris Stanfield, Michael
- 25:54Speaker 8: braswell even. I mean, those guys contributed on championship teams
- 25:57Speaker 8: and we're here multiple years. Tension doesn't always have to
- 26:01Speaker 8: be your high school class. It can be multi year transfers.
- 26:04Speaker 8: You've seen them out a handful of those in this group.
- 26:07Speaker 8: Lia's just kind of the first position players. I mean
- 26:09Speaker 8: that's a look.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Man.
- 26:10Speaker 9: That's a guy who you expect probably take a.
- 26:13Speaker 8: Little bit of a jump, maybe even in power again
- 26:15Speaker 8: this year and be a stalwart for you in the
- 26:17Speaker 8: outfield for two seasons.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Now, Moss I got you learn life's best lessons through failure, right.
- 26:24Speaker 6: I tell my children that all the time, like take failure,
- 26:27Speaker 6: make it a positive thing. What'd you learn? What you
- 26:29Speaker 6: just did? What did you learn? What did Jay learn
- 26:32Speaker 6: this past year through the I don't even I don't
- 26:36Speaker 6: know if it's mistakes mistakes is the right word, but
- 26:38Speaker 6: through not hitting in the portal going into this past year.
- 26:42Speaker 2: What lessons do you think you learned?
- 26:44Speaker 8: But I would say mistakes is the right work. That's
- 26:46Speaker 8: the word he used. I mean that's his own words.
- 26:50Speaker 8: There was mistakes And Roster Building said that after the
- 26:53Speaker 8: during the A and M series, Uh, what they learn?
- 26:58Speaker 9: For one, they learned they had to be a lot
- 27:00Speaker 9: better on defense.
- 27:01Speaker 8: Hey that much because everybody they've went out and Yacht
- 27:05Speaker 8: is a guy who contributed on both sides of the ball.
- 27:07Speaker 8: You look at Dawson Park, who was gonna play infield
- 27:10Speaker 8: for UK. Curlin obviously is a fantastic defender. You've retained
- 27:14Speaker 8: Steven Milom. I mean, I think they like what they've
- 27:17Speaker 8: got defensively in the outfield. It's probably not to the
- 27:20Speaker 8: scale that it could have been last year. I also
- 27:23Speaker 8: didn't get to really see Stanfield, Curiele and Brown play
- 27:25Speaker 8: that much together. That was three center fielders. So maybe
- 27:28Speaker 8: you're not there to that scale. But you have definitely
- 27:31Speaker 8: corrected the issues on the infield because that cost your
- 27:33Speaker 8: pitchers last year. And you've also seen a much bigger
- 27:37Speaker 8: emphasis on proven strike throwing here as well. And I
- 27:42Speaker 8: would tell you too, the guys they've the majority of
- 27:45Speaker 8: the guys they've gotten are power for guys.
- 27:47Speaker 9: When you look at the bats you you.
- 27:50Speaker 8: Struggled offensively with your transfers year ago, York dar R Simpson, Carraway,
- 27:55Speaker 8: like those guys didn't hold up there into the bargains.
- 27:57Speaker 8: They went out and they got proven production like Bino Waters.
- 28:00Speaker 8: I mean, it's the number one player in the portal.
- 28:02Speaker 8: He's career three hundred hitter at Notre Dame. Angel we
- 28:05Speaker 8: just talked to comes from Oregon, a really good program there.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Kate Curlin, Florida.
- 28:09Speaker 8: So I mean they went out and they got proven
- 28:12Speaker 8: production at the college level and high major college level.
- 28:15Speaker 8: They got better on defense, and when you look at
- 28:18Speaker 8: the pitchers, they got guys who are gonna come in
- 28:20Speaker 8: and throw strikes, and I mean that's those are all
- 28:23Speaker 8: the things that really hurt you a year ago, and
- 28:25Speaker 8: they look like they've corrected all of them. But I
- 28:26Speaker 8: would tell you defense is one thing that really stands
- 28:29Speaker 8: out in this class on the infield.
- 28:32Speaker 3: So one of the things that we were talking about
- 28:35Speaker 3: yesterday Moose was you don't really go out and get
- 28:38Speaker 3: a frontline starter in the portal. Now there's not a
- 28:42Speaker 3: lot of those guys in the portal. This year was
- 28:45Speaker 3: not heavy with starting pitching options.
- 28:47Speaker 2: But it also to me, at.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Least, and I'd love to get your opinion, it does
- 28:51Speaker 3: feel like that is a sign pointing to Jay Johnson
- 28:54Speaker 3: and the staff believing that Evans and Schmidt and like
- 28:58Speaker 3: what they have Coop coming back from injury, like they
- 29:02Speaker 3: believe that that three can really still be the three
- 29:06Speaker 3: that they throw out there right, wrong or indifferent?
- 29:09Speaker 8: Yeah, No, I mean you're right, Yeah, that's exactly what
- 29:11Speaker 8: it tells you there's definitely some risk involved in that.
- 29:14Speaker 8: I'd be lying if I told you I feel you
- 29:15Speaker 8: know perfectly okay and great about that. I think all
- 29:18Speaker 8: of those guys can do it, like I There's no
- 29:21Speaker 8: doubt in my mind. William Schmidt can be a great
- 29:23Speaker 8: starting pitcher in the SEC case and Evans could be
- 29:26Speaker 8: a starting pitcher in the SEC Coop more as well. Like,
- 29:28Speaker 8: those guys can absolutely do that. They are capable. They
- 29:31Speaker 8: have the stuff. But what you saw this past year,
- 29:35Speaker 8: and the players are allowed to improve, and everybody improves
- 29:38Speaker 8: at their own rate. Not everybody is Kate in hardly
- 29:41Speaker 8: anybody is Kate Anderson when that happens.
- 29:43Speaker 9: Like it did.
- 29:44Speaker 8: There was an unfair expectation to put on those guys.
- 29:47Speaker 8: So they can absolutely take a step forward and be
- 29:49Speaker 8: better than they were a year ago. Is it good
- 29:52Speaker 8: enough for you to compete at the highest level and
- 29:53Speaker 8: win a national title. We're only going to find that
- 29:55Speaker 8: out when we watch the season. They have the stuff.
- 29:58Speaker 8: I also think Landon Hood's gonna get an opportunity to
- 30:00Speaker 8: break into that into that rotation, especially now after Marco's
- 30:03Speaker 8: pause hit the portal.
- 30:04Speaker 9: I mean that is just a a shot.
- 30:07Speaker 2: That's a brutal blow off for that team man.
- 30:09Speaker 8: But yeah, and he's gonna be in the league too,
- 30:12Speaker 8: and that's you You're gonna end up probably facing him
- 30:14Speaker 8: before he leaves college, which stinks, but so especially after that,
- 30:19Speaker 8: I do think you see land in hood get an
- 30:20Speaker 8: opportunity to break into there, and he certainly could, and
- 30:23Speaker 8: you love the stuff that he has, but yeah, I
- 30:25Speaker 8: mean there's risk and that like just running it back,
- 30:27Speaker 8: that doesn't it doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence
- 30:31Speaker 8: in me.
- 30:31Speaker 9: I know they can do it.
- 30:32Speaker 8: I believe they can, but it's just kind of one
- 30:36Speaker 8: of those things now where it's like all right, right,
- 30:38Speaker 8: wrong or indifferent.
- 30:39Speaker 9: You kind of have to see it, uh to to
- 30:41Speaker 9: believe it.
- 30:42Speaker 6: Well in fairness, like Kate Anderson wasn't Kate Anderson until
- 30:45Speaker 6: he was.
- 30:46Speaker 8: Right in right, and that's why and that's again that's
- 30:48Speaker 8: why it's like, that's just guys don't go from having
- 30:51Speaker 8: a twenty seventy r A in the SEC to the
- 30:53Speaker 8: number three overall pick in one year very often like that.
- 30:57Speaker 2: That doesn't happen.
- 30:58Speaker 9: It can happen, but that's in unfair expectation to put
- 31:01Speaker 9: on somebody.
- 31:02Speaker 6: I think the question does it deserves to be asked.
- 31:04Speaker 6: Do you think Jay missed He's swung at some pictures
- 31:09Speaker 6: and missed. Or do you think there just wasn't enough talented,
- 31:13Speaker 6: starting caliber SEC starting caliber pitchers that went into the portal.
- 31:19Speaker 8: And I'm sure there's a few misses in there. I
- 31:21Speaker 8: mean Berdie Truss Clayer obviously. I mean they wanted Bertie
- 31:23Speaker 8: tross Claire. He into the Tennessee. That was their their
- 31:25Speaker 8: lefty that they really wanted. Now would he have come
- 31:27Speaker 8: and immediately been a starter like not? Because I because
- 31:30Speaker 8: I do think they are. They believe they are content
- 31:33Speaker 8: with Evan Schmidt more like that. That's what they want
- 31:36Speaker 8: is as their rotation. Their actions have just shown you that,
- 31:40Speaker 8: like there were starting pitching options in the portal that
- 31:42Speaker 8: oft else you wanted to go out there and pay
- 31:44Speaker 8: for it, and they believe come in and make the difference.
- 31:46Speaker 9: They could have done it. I mean they've they've shown you.
- 31:48Speaker 8: That by getting a Jeli a beIN no waters like those,
- 31:51Speaker 8: aren't you beat those who in college baseball for that
- 31:55Speaker 8: you had pay to do that. So I mean it's
- 31:57Speaker 8: just really their their approach more than anything I think
- 32:00Speaker 8: to this is they really wanted to show up the
- 32:02Speaker 8: lineup in the defense, and they thought that would really
- 32:04Speaker 8: help the pitching.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Uh, you know, come along it.
- 32:07Speaker 8: It just this team reminds me a lot of the
- 32:10Speaker 8: twenty three team in the way that it looks like
- 32:12Speaker 8: it's going to be constructed. It looks like they're going
- 32:13Speaker 8: to score a bunch of runs and you're probably gonna
- 32:17Speaker 8: give up some, but you're gonna have a pretty good
- 32:19Speaker 8: bullpin and you should be able to win games that way,
- 32:22Speaker 8: which you don't have a Paul Skiings obviously, which was
- 32:24Speaker 8: a massive part.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So I don't I gotta want to omit that.
- 32:27Speaker 8: But I mean outside of that, I mean, you relied
- 32:30Speaker 8: on your offense a lot that year in your defense
- 32:31Speaker 8: behind your pitching.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yep, Kate Anderson right now in the minor league. Call
- 32:38Speaker 2: him off.
- 32:39Speaker 3: He's eighth to one with a one to three six ERA,
- 32:42Speaker 3: fourteen games started, seventy two and two thirds, one hundred
- 32:46Speaker 3: and eight strikeouts, zero point six to nine WIP.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Is good, not a fluke. I mean, what are we doing?
- 32:52Speaker 10: That sounds pretty good?
- 32:54Speaker 8: Professional baseball is Like, I know, it's not the makings
- 33:00Speaker 8: sessional baseball.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Why I know, because he's twenty two.
- 33:04Speaker 8: Probably I would imagine there's got to be some type
- 33:06Speaker 8: of service time deal there is why they haven't called.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Him up yet.
- 33:09Speaker 8: But I mean because we're past May, after the All
- 33:12Speaker 8: Star break here coming up, that would uh. And I'll
- 33:14Speaker 8: tell you what the other interesting thing is the email
- 33:16Speaker 8: be drafted is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, So I mean.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Just more even more uh storyline.
- 33:22Speaker 3: There definitely, I guess like too. You know, the Mariners
- 33:29Speaker 3: are still in first place in the West, so like.
- 33:32Speaker 2: What are them?
- 33:33Speaker 3: The ridiculous division for them, they're probably like thinking, like, Okay,
- 33:36Speaker 3: let's just continue to see if we can hold on
- 33:38Speaker 3: a little bit. It's a bad division, so bad we
- 33:40Speaker 3: hold on for a little bit, and then like we'll
- 33:42Speaker 3: make a splash. We'll call him up and he'll be
- 33:44Speaker 3: like he might be a I don't know, he might
- 33:45Speaker 3: be a playoff bullpin arm Like we've seen that before
- 33:48Speaker 3: and that's like your first introduction into the big leagues.
- 33:52Speaker 3: So we'll see. But he definitely Uh. To say he
- 33:54Speaker 3: deserves to be caught up would be an understatement. All Right,
- 33:57Speaker 3: we'll step away, we'll take a break. We've got more

- 35:42Speaker 6: Eight forty two, eight hour number two Flynn, mos t Jake,
- 35:50Speaker 6: who knows what he's doing. Hey, at the break we
- 35:53Speaker 6: were talking. I want to bring it up here. Former
- 35:57Speaker 6: Saints head coach Sean Payton is making headlines right now.
- 36:01Speaker 6: I mean he's not really doing anything. There's articles being written.
- 36:04Speaker 6: Seth Wickersham read an article and it talks about something
- 36:12Speaker 6: I guess Sean Payton was talking about in jest.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Maybe maybe he suggested it.
- 36:18Speaker 6: But for whatever reason, this article is coming out now
- 36:22Speaker 6: and we're just kind of reading it and.
- 36:23Speaker 2: It's the weirdest thing.
- 36:25Speaker 6: And I don't know if you've heard about it, but
- 36:29Speaker 6: it's he makes a suggestion for you know, we could
- 36:34Speaker 6: say one of the greatest head coaches of all time
- 36:36Speaker 6: in the NFL, Bill Belichick, who is fourteen wins shy
- 36:41Speaker 6: of Don Shula's all time record of I think three
- 36:44Speaker 6: hundred and thirty three regular season wins as a head coach,
- 36:48Speaker 6: made the suggestion that Bill Belichick come and be the
- 36:52Speaker 6: official on paper head coach for the Denver Broncos, while
- 36:56Speaker 6: I guess Sean Payton sits in the shadows and actually
- 37:00Speaker 6: runs the team and calls the plays so he can
- 37:03Speaker 6: get fifteen wins to be the all time leading have
- 37:07Speaker 6: the all time leading wins as a in the regular
- 37:10Speaker 6: season as a head coach. I read this and I'm like, what, Like,
- 37:15Speaker 6: what what is he talking about? For one, this is
- 37:18Speaker 6: happening during a playoff run for the Broncos. Is when
- 37:22Speaker 6: he's talking me, So you just said it before we
- 37:25Speaker 6: came home. Yeah, he's this past playoffs when he's taying
- 37:28Speaker 6: like Seth Wickersham's just like hanging out with the team
- 37:32Speaker 6: and following them or doing whatever.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Uh.
- 37:35Speaker 6: And Sean likes to talk like I was with the
- 37:37Speaker 6: Saints for a while. He likes to talk and tell
- 37:38Speaker 6: stories like this story is such bs. Yeah, he's he's lying,
- 37:44Speaker 6: but he is absolute just lying because of his I'm
- 37:48Speaker 6: assuming like ultimate respect for Bill Belichick, right, And maybe
- 37:52Speaker 6: it was like one of these things they joked about,
- 37:54Speaker 6: maybe we should bring him just be the head coach here.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. Well, if you're a.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Decent team, that's going to take two years to get
- 38:02Speaker 6: fifteen more wins.
- 38:03Speaker 10: Right, You're not going fifteen and two your first year
- 38:06Speaker 10: in Denver. That's not happening. And it would have been
- 38:08Speaker 10: Botnicks's a rookie year. Yeah, So this was like following
- 38:12Speaker 10: the twenty twenty three season. Yes, with Russ, this was
- 38:15Speaker 10: his first year in Denver and they just drafted Bodnicks
- 38:22Speaker 10: first round.
- 38:23Speaker 2: You got a new quarterback.
- 38:25Speaker 10: The guy that fits his system I think perfectly. Yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 10: and you're going to bring him in, let him be
- 38:30Speaker 10: under a coach for two years, then you take back over. Also,
- 38:35Speaker 10: like so much didn't break, kind of cheapens the record.
- 38:37Speaker 10: Stillochick's gonna stand there on the sidelines. Peyton's still calling
- 38:41Speaker 10: the plays, he's still running the offense. He's probably still
- 38:44Speaker 10: running practice. Who the hell knows of Belichick's even going
- 38:47Speaker 10: to practice at that point. Also, two huge egos in
- 38:50Speaker 10: the room like that. I heard this this morning and
- 38:52Speaker 10: they said I wonder how those two egos would work out.
- 38:55Speaker 10: And my thought was, well, if Sean Payton's serious about this,
- 38:58Speaker 10: then hell I got a much bigger ego than Sean Payton,
- 39:01Speaker 10: because there ain't no damn way I'm stepping aside and
- 39:03Speaker 10: letting somebody else coach the team for two years. It's
- 39:05Speaker 10: not happening. And I don't think Peyton's doing that either.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Yeah, obviously this would have been like a like not
- 39:11Speaker 6: a real position. But somebody's got to pay him. He's
- 39:13Speaker 6: got to be like an employee to be able to
- 39:15Speaker 6: do it. But and you know, it's also suggested in
- 39:18Speaker 6: the article that like, all right, this was just kind
- 39:21Speaker 6: of Sean Payton thinking out loud, but.
- 39:27Speaker 2: It's still very strange situation. It's done.
- 39:30Speaker 9: I even think that doesn't make any sense.
- 39:32Speaker 10: She's just lying like that he is lying. He's not
- 39:36Speaker 10: going to do that. You think Sean Payton's gonna relinquish
- 39:40Speaker 10: control for two years even though he's running things like
- 39:43Speaker 10: I'm not. And I guarantee you I don't have half
- 39:45Speaker 10: the ego that Sean Payton does. And if one of
- 39:47Speaker 10: you no offense to all love you, I like all
- 39:49Speaker 10: of you, was like, hey, can I take over?
- 39:52Speaker 2: You know?
- 39:52Speaker 10: I would really like to come back and be like, man,
- 39:54Speaker 10: you had a hell of a run. Let let's not
- 39:56Speaker 10: do that. Let's let's let's not. Let's not let that happen.
- 40:01Speaker 6: The only thing I can think of in his defense,
- 40:04Speaker 6: he just went through a year with Russell Wilson as
- 40:07Speaker 6: his quarterback, so maybe he was like, you know what,
- 40:10Speaker 6: until this thing plays out, you got it?
- 40:12Speaker 2: Bill, who are talking about?
- 40:13Speaker 6: You?
- 40:14Speaker 2: Deal with it?
- 40:14Speaker 6: Sean Payton lined everybody what well, he said that he
- 40:19Speaker 6: would let Bill Belichick come in and be the head
- 40:22Speaker 6: coach so they can get fifteen more wins, so he
- 40:23Speaker 6: could pass the all time win record as a head coach.
- 40:26Speaker 10: This was going into twenty twenty four, so Nixon's rookie year,
- 40:29Speaker 10: and I just think he's hould the crap.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Some mind people. Yeah, that's a lie. Yeah, and it's okay.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Look we all have egos to some extent, now some
- 40:39Speaker 3: bigger than others.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Sean has no doubt about it. Yep, that would never happen.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Never let that. Sean also likes Sean stories. That's also true.
- 40:54Speaker 2: What's a really good story.
- 40:55Speaker 6: I'd sit there listen to you, like the guy's got
- 40:58Speaker 6: a crazy cree memory, like telling.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Stories about is Jimbo a little bit?
- 41:03Speaker 6: So much like we would say there Saturday night before
- 41:05Speaker 6: games like you just telling stories to like eleven PM,
- 41:08Speaker 6: like bro, I got it, Like I gotta go to bed,
- 41:11Speaker 6: like these are a good story. I remember every little detail,
- 41:14Speaker 6: and I'm like, Lee, I don't remember what I had
- 41:16Speaker 6: for breakfast.
- 41:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:18Speaker 10: If you saw the clip from the coaches meeting, like
- 41:21Speaker 10: the NFL one, it was everybody sitting around the table.
- 41:23Speaker 10: Peyton was standing up telling a story and they were
- 41:25Speaker 10: all watching.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Yeah, this was a couple of weeks ago, just holding
- 41:28Speaker 6: court right there. I'm telling you Sean likes a Sean story, yep.
- 41:32Speaker 6: And he's good at him. Maybe some embellishment going on,
- 41:39Speaker 6: like Bill Belichick being the head coach for your team.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Yes's not going to have for two seasons. It'll still
- 41:45Speaker 2: the coach of North Carolina. By the way, what is
- 41:47Speaker 2: he really?
- 41:49Speaker 10: Bill Belichick and Deon Sanders or college chead coaches at
- 41:52Speaker 10: the same time.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Yeah, what's It's quite the world and neither are doing great.
- 41:57Speaker 3: And on that note, we'll take a break. More OTV.
- 42:00Speaker 3: I'm'n come back your life in the Raisin King studio
