- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Let's go to Vegas.
- 1:40Dayna Roselli: Hey everyone and welcome to episode 131 of Vegas Revealed.
- 1:45Dayna Roselli: Dana Roselli and Sean McAllister here, ready to tackle another podcast.
- 1:50Dayna Roselli: We've got a lot to talk about, but we wanted to touch quickly again on all the rain we've been having.
- 1:56Dayna Roselli: And I say all the rain, more than usual this summer, because so many people are messaging us and texting us saying, Hey, you guys all right?
- 2:04Sean McAllister: They are.
- 2:04Sean McAllister: And Dana, I'm looking out the window over your shoulder right now, and it is bone dry.
- 2:11Sean McAllister: We have blue skies and sunshine right now, and no wetness on the ground.
- 2:17Dayna Roselli: And I feel like we have that like an hour after it rains, too.
- 2:21Sean McAllister: We do.
- 2:21Dayna Roselli: It's like um, it's hard to explain to people unless you live in the desert, but monsoon is like it pours and then it clears up.
- 2:29Sean McAllister: And it's not even all of Las Vegas, it's like little neighborhoods for the most part.
- 2:34Sean McAllister: Sometimes there have been a couple times when we've had a big storm push through where everybody gets the rain.
- 2:40Sean McAllister: Right.
- 2:40Sean McAllister: But most of the time it's like spotty little downpours.
- 2:43Dayna Roselli: It is.
- 2:44Dayna Roselli: It's funny because I I went actually south toward the Silverton yesterday on Blue Diamond to meet my friend at a Starbucks.
- 2:51Dayna Roselli: And when I checked something, I don't know if I looked at Twitter or I saw one of our local meteorologists say there's a downpour right now in Southern Highlands, which is even more south than that.
- 3:02Dayna Roselli: But my point being the the sun was out near me.
- 3:06Dayna Roselli: I went to the to the to the Starbucks and not a drop on the ground.
- 3:10Dayna Roselli: So it like just rained in Southern Highlands.
- 3:13Sean McAllister: Right.
- 3:13Dayna Roselli: So yeah.
- 3:14Sean McAllister: And I the reason that a lot of people are still sending these messages saying, Oh my gosh, is Vegas underwater right now?
- 3:21Sean McAllister: It's because a lot of national news outlets have been running one specific piece of video that I have noticed of uh flooding on Charleston.
- 3:31Sean McAllister: Charleston Boulevard, right.
- 3:33Sean McAllister: One of our big roads, like kind of in the downtown area.
- 3:35Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 3:36Sean McAllister: Central Las Vegas.
- 3:37Sean McAllister: Um, and some big national TV personalities have said, look at this video coming out of Las Vegas, the flooding down on the strip.
- 3:48Sean McAllister: Well, it wasn't on the strip, it was on Charleston.
- 3:50Sean McAllister: Right.
- 3:51Dayna Roselli: And which is downtown area, which is not considered the strip.
- 3:55Dayna Roselli: It's in the city of Las Vegas.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 3:57Dayna Roselli: It's not even, yeah.
- 3:58Sean McAllister: But then that video is paired with another video that's been going around of Planet Hollywood.
- 4:04Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 4:04Dayna Roselli: And that that is something that was unusual this year.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: And that is, you know, like rain pouring through right onto like some of the gaming tables there, like blackjack and and poker tables and roulette and stuff like that.
- 4:17Dayna Roselli: That definitely was concerned for so many people because I'd never seen anything like that.
- 4:22Dayna Roselli: So I'll give them that.
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: But they're also also another piece of video, which is also going around, is the Link parking garage.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:30Dayna Roselli: And every year this happens, excuse the frog in my throat.
- 4:34Dayna Roselli: Every year this happens.
- 4:35Dayna Roselli: It used to be the Imperial Palace, but what people don't realize, because I even saw it on like ABC News' Instagram, and yeah, it looks like, oh my gosh, this water is flooded, but it's supposed to do that.
- 4:46Sean McAllister: It's a flood channel.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: It's a literage is part of the flood channel.
- 4:51Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 4:51Sean McAllister: So as long as that is flooding and water is running through it, the flood channel is doing its job and making that runoff go in the direction it's supposed to go.
- 5:02Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:03Dayna Roselli: So, right.
- 5:05Dayna Roselli: It's cool to look at when you look at the piece of video, and it does look like, you know, but so yeah, the Planet Hollywood thing, okay, yeah, that was really strange.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: And that's happened twice.
- 5:15Dayna Roselli: So it's very strange.
- 5:16Dayna Roselli: Also, there's word out there that um, you know, a couple people were found in flood channels and had passed away and they were pulling bodies up and and all that.
- 5:25Dayna Roselli: But uh sadly, a lot of our homeless that live in Las Vegas in the tunnels or in the flood channels, they kind of set up camp, hang out there, maybe take a nap.
- 5:36Dayna Roselli: The problem is these these rains come so quick that all of a sudden the flood channels full and those people are getting washed away in a sense.
- 5:45Dayna Roselli: Uh so sadly, that actually isn't anything out of the ordinary when we have major rains, but still newsworthy and important to talk about.
- 5:58Dayna Roselli: That you know, we want to do our best to get the homeless out of those flood channels.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: And the the thing with that is is like we're just mentioning, it can rain in one part of the Las Vegas Valley and be bone dry in another part.
- 6:13Sean McAllister: But if it's raining on the west side, guess what?
- 6:18Sean McAllister: All that water is gonna go through the flood channels in the middle of the by down by the strip, and you don't anticipate that wall of water coming down those underground tunnels until it's right there.
- 6:33Dayna Roselli: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 6:34Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's it's a sad situation all around when that happens.
- 6:38Dayna Roselli: Um, we've had a very, I don't even want to say strange summer, but we talked about this.
- 6:43Dayna Roselli: Like, we just haven't had this type of monsoon weather in at least a few years.
- 6:49Sean McAllister: So I think I think this is the wettest monsoon season.
- 6:52Sean McAllister: I could be wrong on this, but I feel like I read that it's the wettest monsoon season in like 10 years.
- 6:59Sean McAllister: And I believe it.
- 7:00Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I believe it too.
- 7:01Dayna Roselli: It's it's been a while.
- 7:03Dayna Roselli: It's convenient, it's consistent.
- 7:05Sean McAllister: Whether it's been whether 10 years is the number or not, it's around 10 years, and it's been a while.
- 7:11Dayna Roselli: And it's been humid, which is consistently humid, which has been such a pain in the ass for my hair.
- 7:17Dayna Roselli: Very meat too.
- 7:19Dayna Roselli: My skin feels good, but anyway.
- 7:22Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 7:23Dayna Roselli: Well, we've got a long list of uh fun Vegas topics to talk about today, too.
- 7:27Dayna Roselli: And one of them uh has to do with the late Meatloaf, and we're talking the singer Meatloaf, a new show coming to the Paris, Las Vegas.
- 7:36Dayna Roselli: It's called Bat Outta Hell.
- 7:37Dayna Roselli: It's new to Las Vegas, but apparently, I think it was um it's been running in London's West End, or at least in the UK, for quite a while.
- 7:48Dayna Roselli: It's got a lot of accolades, and a lot of people have said it's incredible.
- 7:53Dayna Roselli: It starts September 27th, so Bat Outta Hell coming to Paris, Las Vegas.
- 7:59Dayna Roselli: Um, I actually saw one of our friends, Travis Clover, who was in Jersey Boys for many, many years, post about this.
- 8:07Dayna Roselli: He's going to be in the show.
- 8:08Dayna Roselli: Congratulations to Travis.
- 8:10Dayna Roselli: That's what alerted me.
- 8:11Dayna Roselli: And then I started looking into it and I'm going, wait a minute, this is opening September 27th, and it's on the calendar all the way through 2023.
- 8:19Dayna Roselli: And they've even got some nights, what is it, Fridays and Saturdays?
- 8:22Dayna Roselli: I think it is.
- 8:23Dayna Roselli: They have two shows a night.
- 8:25Sean McAllister: And it's so this is a musical that's based on Meatloaf's 1977 album, Bat Out of Hell.
- 8:33Sean McAllister: Uh, Jim Steinman is the one who uh put the musical together.
- 8:38Sean McAllister: And the storyline, which I think is interesting, is loosely based on the storyline of Peter Pan.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: Oh, set in kind of a post-apocalyptic New York City environment.
- 8:51Sean McAllister: This musical premiered uh back in 2017, and then there was an international tour in 2020, and now um, you know, we're getting word that the musical is setting up shop uh, I guess semi-permanently at least uh here in Las Vegas.
- 9:09Dayna Roselli: I know I'm excited about it.
- 9:11Dayna Roselli: You know, Jersey Boys was in that room for so long, yeah, and it was a musical and it did well.
- 9:16Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, they've tried a couple other things in there and it didn't really work, but I think that theater is a great theater and stage and setup for shows like that.
- 9:26Sean McAllister: And I mean, the music on the Bad Out of Hell album, you really can't beat it.
- 9:32Sean McAllister: There are some incredible songs, of course, you like uh I know we just want to sing them, right?
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: I would do it.
- 9:39Dayna Roselli: We'll just sing the we don't know the name of it.
- 9:41Sean McAllister: But I won't do that.
- 9:43Dayna Roselli: And then there's so many.
- 9:45Dayna Roselli: I I mean there's so many, right?
- 9:47Dayna Roselli: I can't even I can't even think of the names either, but you guys know what we're talking about.
- 9:52Dayna Roselli: Everyone knows meatloaf, right?
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: But and you can oh uh something on the dashboard.
- 9:57Sean McAllister: What's the dashboard lights?
- 9:59Dayna Roselli: Dashboard.
- 10:02Dayna Roselli: We're not gonna we're not gonna pause the podcast.
- 10:04Dayna Roselli: We're just gonna keep going.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: I told you.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: Oh, Paradise by the dashboard light.
- 10:09Sean McAllister: See, I knew there was something about the dashboard light.
- 10:12Dayna Roselli: Two out of three ain't bad.
- 10:14Dayna Roselli: There you go.
- 10:15Dayna Roselli: Dead ringer for love and bat out of hell.
- 10:18Dayna Roselli: The award-winning Wild Child musical thunders through powerhouse hits, including I Do Anything for Love, but I won't do that.
- 10:27Dayna Roselli: And then the three that I just mentioned.
- 10:28Sean McAllister: There we go.
- 10:29Dayna Roselli: All those very famous popular songs.
- 10:32Dayna Roselli: I'm excited for it.
- 10:33Dayna Roselli: I'm glad they've got something going in that space.
- 10:35Dayna Roselli: It keeps like sitting empty for too long.
- 10:38Dayna Roselli: And with all those new restaurants opening at the Paris, they need some entertainment, they need some shows in the building.
- 10:42Sean McAllister: They do.
- 10:43Sean McAllister: I think that'll do really well.
- 10:45Sean McAllister: The music, as we were just saying, is great.
- 10:48Sean McAllister: And uh the cast that we've seen so far is uh in top notch.
- 10:53Dayna Roselli: Top notch, yeah.
- 10:55Dayna Roselli: All right, well, across the street, right, and down the road.
- 10:59Dayna Roselli: Isn't that part of a nursery rhyme?
- 11:01Sean McAllister: Across down through the river, over the river and through the woods.
- 11:08Dayna Roselli: All right, well, across the street and down Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 11:12Dayna Roselli: Ocean Prime is gonna be opening in the spring of 2023.
- 11:17Dayna Roselli: And this is a new, get this, Sean,$20 million restaurant.
- 11:23Dayna Roselli: And it's the first Ocean Prime in Las Vegas, but it's the 18th location nationwide.
- 11:30Sean McAllister: It's Cameron Mitchell restaurants that's opening this location.
- 11:34Sean McAllister: It's going to be the flagship location of all of their ocean prime locations.
- 11:40Sean McAllister: Um, but this uh restaurant space is over 14,000 square feet.
- 11:47Sean McAllister: That's huge.
- 11:48Sean McAllister: There's a ton of private dining rooms, there's a main dining room, there's a patio overlooking the strip.
- 11:56Sean McAllister: Gorgeous.
- 11:56Sean McAllister: The renderings that uh we just received uh they look phenomenal.
- 12:02Sean McAllister: And it is a prime location.
- 12:05Sean McAllister: It really is.
- 12:05Dayna Roselli: Listen, and I love when we get a good flagship, you know?
- 12:08Dayna Roselli: I know because it means we're better than all the rest.
- 12:10Dayna Roselli: It does.
- 12:10Dayna Roselli: All the other 18.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: Oh, this is gonna be the 18th, all the other 17 restaurants.
- 12:15Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's right at Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon and right in front of Crystals, the shops at Crystals, right?
- 12:22Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, it's a great spot, lots of luxury shopping over there, and I think it'll fit in perfectly.
- 12:27Sean McAllister: Yeah, and then right next door to the cosmopolitan, uh, across the street from uh Planet Hollywood, Kitty Corner to Planet Hollywood, really.
- 12:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I guess the whole area is called 63 Las Vegas.
- 12:41Dayna Roselli: So they'll continue to fill in with other kinds of, I don't know if it's gonna be shops, restaurants, any kind of type businesses around that area.
- 12:49Dayna Roselli: And they say there's a lot of food traffic in that area, so it's a great place to be.
- 12:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, and this is uh the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 12:59Sean McAllister: Um, that kind of corner of the building has been under construction for a while.
- 13:05Sean McAllister: And we've been wondering like, what is what's going in there?
- 13:09Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 13:09Sean McAllister: And so now we're starting to have some of the the dining retail uh establishments be revealed for that space that we've seen going up over the gosh, over the past year plus, really.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: I mean, a$20 million restaurant, you know, it's gonna be it's gonna be pretty, right?
- 13:31Dayna Roselli: It is.
- 13:32Dayna Roselli: It is.
- 13:32Dayna Roselli: And the good thing about places like that is even if you can't afford to go eat there, you can go, you can probably afford to go in and have one drink at the bar.
- 13:38Sean McAllister: You can go in, you can get an appetizer, some drinks at the bar, say you've been there, snap your Instagram pictures.
- 13:45Sean McAllister: Exactly.
- 13:45Sean McAllister: You know.
- 13:46Sean McAllister: Uh speaking of Instagram pictures, some place that you might want to snap some pictures of new rooms is over at New York, New York.
- 13:55Sean McAllister: They just announced a pretty major renovation.
- 13:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah,$63 million room remodel project.
- 14:02Dayna Roselli: And I guess they are gonna be redoing 1,830 rooms and 155 of its suites, and expected to kind of be complete around the summer of 2023.
- 14:15Dayna Roselli: So they're just kind of kicking things off there, and they've got to go room by room.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: Apparently, the accommodations are gonna feature some vibrant new designs and upgraded in-room amenities that will appeal to travelers from around the world.
- 14:26Dayna Roselli: So that's exciting.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: I think it's time for New York, New York to do a little upgrade, right?
- 14:30Sean McAllister: Yeah, and in addition to uh the rooms, the the spa, and the marquees at New York, New York are also getting a bit of a facelift, which is you know part of this big renovation too.
- 14:44Sean McAllister: And it kind of goes along with uh uh Mad Apple, the new Cirque show going in, and that uh theater at New York, New York has already received uh some renovations to to accommodate and host that show.
- 15:00Sean McAllister: Right.
- 15:00Sean McAllister: Um, so that's exciting for New York, New York.
- 15:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, lots of upgrades going in and and kind of you know uh an indicator that uh long live New York New York.
- 15:10Dayna Roselli: Because we always say when we see a hotel that doesn't get upgrades after a while, we're kind of like, what's the fate of that hotel?
- 15:15Dayna Roselli: So good to know that MGM and New York, New York are bustling forward and and gonna do some renovations and keep things moving over there.
- 15:22Dayna Roselli: I know a lot of people that have gone to see Mad Apple more and more lately, and they're all really loving the show.
- 15:27Dayna Roselli: So congratulations to Circ on that one, too.
- 15:30Sean McAllister: It's so much fun.
- 15:30Sean McAllister: It really is a great show.
- 15:32Dayna Roselli: All right, you may have seen this clip on our social media.
- 15:35Dayna Roselli: If you go to our Instagram, our Vegas Revealed Instagram, you'll see Bruno Mars and Anderson Pac up on stage performing, but they are not at Park MGM, where their show is.
- 15:48Dayna Roselli: And they have a great show over there, and they are together, Silksonic.
- 15:51Dayna Roselli: In case you didn't know that, you can hear about them in previous podcasts.
- 15:54Dayna Roselli: Uh, they won many Grammys, so I think you know who they are now.
- 15:57Dayna Roselli: But they popped up over at the Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails, and this is inside the Cosmopolitan, which is interesting because it's now owned by MGM, by the way, the Cosmopolitan, because it's near Park MGM, which is owned by MGM.
- 16:12Dayna Roselli: That's where their show is.
- 16:13Dayna Roselli: And now that the Cosmopolitan's owned by MGM, makes sense that they were over there.
- 16:17Dayna Roselli: But they stopped by Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails, hopped up on stage, and just started like jamming to some music.
- 16:24Dayna Roselli: The crowd was going crazy.
- 16:26Dayna Roselli: Apparently, they they kind of did a bunch of like covers.
- 16:29Dayna Roselli: They did like Roxanne by the police, Your Love by The Outfield, Last Resort by Papa Roach, and the crowd was just loving it.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: Like, wait a minute, is that like Bruno Mars and Anderson Pac?
- 16:42Dayna Roselli: Like, we're here for a different band and some live music.
- 16:45Sean McAllister: Right.
- 16:46Sean McAllister: And the musicians who are already performing are, you know, some guys that we've known for a while.
- 16:52Sean McAllister: Uh Justin Carter, Ben Carey, Sean Eiferman were up there on stage.
- 16:56Sean McAllister: They're regular performers over at the barber shop.
- 17:00Sean McAllister: And then I guess when Bruno and Anderson Pac just pop on over and say, Hey, you know what?
- 17:05Sean McAllister: We want to hop up on stage, you say, Okay.
- 17:08Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 17:09Sean McAllister: Um, so that really is cool.
- 17:11Sean McAllister: I was just looking at uh Justin Carter's Instagram, and uh he has a picture of him and and Bruno up on stage, and he says, Well, I guess this is the face you make when Bruno Mars joins you for a jam session.
- 17:25Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 17:26Dayna Roselli: And I was gonna say, when they say, you know, hey, we want to hop up on stage, then they probably say back, like, well, we'll leave the door open.
- 17:32Dayna Roselli: Ah, good one.
- 17:34Dayna Roselli: That was my joke.
- 17:34Dayna Roselli: But Justin Carter, hey, FYI side note, performed at one of your birthday parties.
- 17:39Dayna Roselli: He did in your backyard, remember?
- 17:41Sean McAllister: That was in uh 2021.
- 17:45Dayna Roselli: I think it was 2021, yeah.
- 17:47Sean McAllister: It was yeah, because we we had that, and then like a couple days later, we decided to sell the house.
- 17:52Sean McAllister: Oh, yes on a whim.
- 17:54Dayna Roselli: That's right, that's right.
- 17:55Dayna Roselli: Um, yeah, so Justin put on a great show in your backyard.
- 18:00Dayna Roselli: He's always really entertaining.
- 18:01Dayna Roselli: So he was over there at barbershop, and then that's how both of us saw that Bruno had hopped up on stage because we followed Justin, and then we got the press release saying, Hey, yeah, here's what went down, and the crowd went wild.
- 18:13Sean McAllister: Yeah, and this was after the Silksonic show over at uh the Dolby Theater at Park MGM, which is an incredibly high-energy show.
- 18:22Sean McAllister: You know, Bruno and Anderson Pac put on one hell of a performance, and then to still have the energy to go and do a whole nother show after that.
- 18:31Sean McAllister: Yeah, that's pretty impressive.
- 18:33Dayna Roselli: That's what Vegas is about and always has been about.
- 18:36Dayna Roselli: And I'm glad to see some of this happening.
- 18:38Dayna Roselli: I like it a lot because I feel like that was the whole reason people visited Las Vegas for so long, you know, is because you never knew where you were gonna be and someone was gonna pop up or what was gonna happen.
- 18:49Dayna Roselli: And so I love it.
- 18:51Dayna Roselli: I think it's great.
- 18:52Dayna Roselli: Uh, check out the video.
- 18:53Dayna Roselli: It's pretty quick video, but it's kind of fun to watch on our Instagram.
- 18:56Dayna Roselli: We've got it up there at our Vegas Revealed.
- 18:58Sean McAllister: And so that happened at the barber shop, the speakeasy over at the Cosmopolitan.
- 19:02Sean McAllister: We've also seen things like this happen at Brian Newman's show, his late night show inside the library over at the Nomad.
- 19:11Sean McAllister: Yes, that's it.
- 19:12Sean McAllister: So it is.
- 19:12Sean McAllister: It's really cool.
- 19:14Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 19:14Dayna Roselli: Well, if you love comedy, and uh I know I sure do, and I really like Brad Garrett too.
- 19:19Dayna Roselli: He's one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen live.
- 19:21Dayna Roselli: I love him.
- 19:22Dayna Roselli: But he's got a comedy club over at MGM Grand.
- 19:24Dayna Roselli: By the way, we haven't even talked about that.
- 19:26Dayna Roselli: You know, he moved locations, and I've walked by his new comedy club twice recently, and I thought we need to get in there because it's a cool space.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:34Dayna Roselli: It's got this like outer area with like like at a bar and kind of a cocktail tables and lounge area before you go into the comedy club.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: But anyway, um, at that comedy club at MGM Grand, which is now on the way to like when you head toward the Grand Garden Arena, is that called the district?
- 19:52Sean McAllister: The district.
- 19:52Dayna Roselli: The district, right?
- 19:54Dayna Roselli: Um, I walked by when I was going to Nellie's Southern Kitchen that's owned by the Jonas family.
- 19:59Dayna Roselli: Um, but anyway, they are having uh an event there, and it's the main event of the World Series of Comedy, which I didn't even know there was a World Series of Comedy, did you?
- 20:08Sean McAllister: I didn't.
- 20:08Sean McAllister: I knew there was a World Series of Poker.
- 20:10Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 20:11Dayna Roselli: Well, it's the competition semifinal and final rounds, and it's scheduled for Saturday, September 17th at 6 p.m.
- 20:19Dayna Roselli: and 8 p.m.
- 20:20Dayna Roselli: And it's a stand-up comedy festival.
- 20:23Dayna Roselli: And so with the final and the semifinal, you can only imagine the the the guys and gals that are gonna be up on stage are gonna be hilarious because they've made it really far.
- 20:31Sean McAllister: And it's a a massive field of comedians that that started out in this world series of comedy.
- 20:38Sean McAllister: 500 comedians started out, and in the end, only one of them is going to be crowned the champion.
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: So it's a big deal, right?
- 20:46Dayna Roselli: It's gonna be a lot of fun to watch.
- 20:49Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, if you want to get your tickets, I would get them now and hold your place.
- 20:52Dayna Roselli: If you love comedy, this is gonna be the place to be.
- 20:55Dayna Roselli: Again, it's Saturday, September 17th at Brad Garrett's Comedy Club at MGM Grand, the main event of the World Series of Comedy.
- 21:03Dayna Roselli: Sean, I know you wanted to talk about something that you saw just before we were about to record the podcast.
- 21:08Dayna Roselli: You're like, oh yeah, I want to I wanna pop this in because you uh you were telling me about it and it sounds really cool.
- 21:13Dayna Roselli: It's uh something in conjunction with the Neon Museum, right?
- 21:17Dayna Roselli: They're doing a new kind of tour.
- 21:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, so this is called, it's a whole series.
- 21:22Sean McAllister: It's called Duck Duck Shed.
- 21:25Sean McAllister: And it's a series of events celebrating architecture, design, and culture in Las Vegas.
- 21:31Sean McAllister: And there are a bunch of different ticketed events and tours that uh you can take part in.
- 21:38Sean McAllister: This is all happening uh uh Thursday, October 27th through Sunday, October 30th.
- 21:47Sean McAllister: So giving you a little heads up here.
- 21:48Sean McAllister: I like that.
- 21:49Sean McAllister: But one of the events that I thought was super cool, which is happening uh that Saturday, is a tour, a walking tour of Saturday.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: Siegfried and Roy's home, which is called The Jungle Palace.
- 22:05Sean McAllister: So it's a walk through the home.
- 22:08Sean McAllister: Um, and you're going to hear stories from people who worked closely with Siegfried and Roy over the years.
- 22:17Sean McAllister: Um, you get to see the grounds where you know some of the jungle cats lived.
- 22:22Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 22:23Sean McAllister: And really, Siegfried and Roy had an opulent lifestyle.
- 22:29Dayna Roselli: They did.
- 22:30Sean McAllister: And I mean, the highest paid entertainers in Las Vegas at one point.
- 22:35Sean McAllister: And so that comes with a certain level of living.
- 22:40Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 22:40Sean McAllister: And so you get to see that firsthand.
- 22:42Sean McAllister: Uh, tickets for that are$95.
- 22:46Sean McAllister: Um, which I think is a it's a pretty good price, yeah.
- 22:49Sean McAllister: It's it's a pretty good price to see history.
- 22:52Sean McAllister: I mean, who knows how long the house is going to be the estate, really, I should say.
- 22:58Sean McAllister: Who knows how long it's going to be kept intact?
- 23:01Sean McAllister: This could be like a moment in time to get that glimpse of history and into the lives of Las Vegas legends, really entertainment legends around the world.
- 23:13Sean McAllister: Um, so again,$95 for the ticket to uh tour the jungle palace.
- 23:19Dayna Roselli: I yeah, I thought it was interesting when you mentioned that because I didn't realize that they were going to be opening up their home.
- 23:24Dayna Roselli: And if anyone doesn't know, which I assume most people do, Siegfried and Roy both passed away, I would say somewhat recently, over the last five years, right?
- 23:34Dayna Roselli: Because I know um Siegfried passed away kind of during that COVID period.
- 23:38Sean McAllister: He did, and uh Roy uh prior to that.
- 23:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah, prior to that, but in close pretty close proximity.
- 23:46Dayna Roselli: Close proximity.
- 23:47Dayna Roselli: So uh it was a sad loss for the world and Las Vegas.
- 23:50Dayna Roselli: You know, they were incredible magicians, and obviously everyone knows their story and what happened on stage.
- 23:55Dayna Roselli: It was it was tragic.
- 23:57Dayna Roselli: Roy was was hurt, um, but they still always made visits around Las Vegas, went to shows, stayed involved in the community, and so it was a big loss for us.
- 24:06Dayna Roselli: But I didn't realize they were opening up their home to this kind of tour.
- 24:10Dayna Roselli: So I'm excited to hear that a lot of people who really, really have an interest in them, their lifestyle, where they lived will be able to go in and, like you said, witness history.
- 24:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, and it looks like uh the Neon Museum is going to hold its 10th anniversary celebration uh at their home as well.
- 24:30Sean McAllister: Wow.
- 24:30Sean McAllister: Um, that's a pricier ticket at$1,000.
- 24:34Sean McAllister: Um, but still, I mean, there's gonna be some good people at that event too.
- 24:39Sean McAllister: For more on the duck duck shed uh series, you can go to neonmuseum.org, and that's where you can also uh find more about the regular events that the Neon Museum hosts too, as well as their regular tours.
- 24:56Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 24:57Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 24:57Dayna Roselli: Well, we've got a couple good tips coming up, so why don't we do it and get to it?
- 25:05Dayna Roselli: All right, Sean, the tip that I have is free lunch parking in the arts district, and hallelujah is what I have to say.
- 25:12Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 25:13Dayna Roselli: This started on August 15th, and then apparently the city has decided the metered on-street parking, and they call it the 18B Las Vegas Arts District, will be free Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.
- 25:25Dayna Roselli: to 1 p.m.
- 25:26Dayna Roselli: And I gotta tell you why I love this.
- 25:27Dayna Roselli: Literally, yesterday I went to lunch with a friend of mine, Sherry Swince.
- 25:31Dayna Roselli: She's a local meteorologist on the morning show.
- 25:33Dayna Roselli: We worked at Channel 8 together for eight years.
- 25:35Dayna Roselli: We were meeting up for lunch, and it was downtown.
- 25:39Dayna Roselli: And I'm telling you, Sean, and we talked about this before.
- 25:41Dayna Roselli: It took me like five minutes to pay for my parking, plug in my license plate, do this, put the card in, wait, read it, get the receipt.
- 25:50Dayna Roselli: I was like, oh my gosh, I'm like tak, you know, like wasting half my lunchtime here paying for this parking.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: So I'm excited about this free parking in the arts district from 11 to 1.
- 26:00Dayna Roselli: I think it's a great idea.
- 26:02Sean McAllister: It is.
- 26:03Sean McAllister: And, you know, I think that is one of the challenges that downtown Las Vegas has is the parking situation.
- 26:11Sean McAllister: And I know that they're doing some things to try and address that.
- 26:16Sean McAllister: There are apps that you can use to pay for parking, all that.
- 26:19Sean McAllister: Um, but people need to know about that in order to make it easier.
- 26:24Sean McAllister: Right.
- 26:25Sean McAllister: You know?
- 26:25Sean McAllister: So that is part of the evolution of the downtown area.
- 26:30Sean McAllister: But this is a great step in the direction to get people down there.
- 26:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it really is.
- 26:35Dayna Roselli: And I think there's a lot of construction too, which is adding to it, you know, and that always is frustrating because they're like sometimes it makes makes it so there's like less spots on the side of the road because there's some construction.
- 26:45Dayna Roselli: So it's really limited.
- 26:47Dayna Roselli: But just so everyone knows, all on-street meters in the Arts District will be free.
- 26:51Dayna Roselli: And this area is bounded by, write this down, Charleston Boulevard to the north, Commerce Street to the west, third street on the east, and Oakie Boulevard to the south.
- 27:01Dayna Roselli: So check it out.
- 27:02Dayna Roselli: If you want to hop in for lunch, you won't have to pay for parking.
- 27:05Dayna Roselli: I put in, let's see, I think a two hours yesterday.
- 27:09Dayna Roselli: It said, How long do you think you're gonna be?
- 27:10Dayna Roselli: And it costs four dollars.
- 27:11Dayna Roselli: So it's not very expensive to begin with, but you know, it'll save you four bucks.
- 27:16Sean McAllister: There we go.
- 27:17Sean McAllister: All right.
- 27:18Sean McAllister: Love free parking.
- 27:19Sean McAllister: Uh, so obviously we know football season is coming up, and football season always a big deal here in Las Vegas.
- 27:28Sean McAllister: And someone who's making an even bigger deal of football season is the owner of the circa resort, Derek Stevens.
- 27:36Sean McAllister: Uh, and circa sports is the sports betting venture that's you know put on by Circa.
- 27:43Sean McAllister: And it's in more places, you can bet at Circa Sports venues in more places than just Circa Sports.
- 27:49Sean McAllister: Right.
- 27:50Sean McAllister: Um but what's cool is that uh Derek Stevens and Circa Sports is hosting this Circa Sports panel.
- 27:59Sean McAllister: This is the uh third year that they've uh done this to kick off football season.
- 28:04Sean McAllister: They have uh former pro players Brian Erlocher and Sean King coming in to be a part of this.
- 28:13Sean McAllister: It's going to be a QA session, also with some uh leading experts in the sports betting field, also some sports analysts taking part.
- 28:24Sean McAllister: They're gonna give their insights on the new uh professional football season so you can really prepare your bets as you move through uh the fall, which is pretty cool.
- 28:36Sean McAllister: And this is also taking place in uh it's gonna be one of the first events in Circa's new meeting and convention area, which is uh just going to be kicking off.
- 28:49Sean McAllister: So this panel is taking place on August 27th over there at Circa.
- 28:56Sean McAllister: You can go to their website and get all the details on that.
- 28:59Sean McAllister: But I know that you know, as football season kicks off, as uh fantasy football kicks off, people are ready for the season.
- 29:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, there's such an interest in sports betting, you know.
- 29:12Dayna Roselli: It's been such a obviously what we're really a lot of times known for is being the place to I know other places you can bet sports now, but we were the originals, all right?
- 29:22Dayna Roselli: Um, but anyway, and let's let uh I love this idea of the panel, and I think it's gonna be great for everyone to learn, engage, and have a good time over at Circa.
- 29:30Dayna Roselli: But can we also talk about um preseason football?
- 29:32Dayna Roselli: Like the Raiders have won both games.
- 29:34Sean McAllister: I know.
- 29:35Dayna Roselli: It's exciting, right?
- 29:36Sean McAllister: It is exciting.
- 29:37Sean McAllister: And the the last game we just had here at Allegian Stadium, and uh the reaction from people who were there inside for the game, they said they have never experienced the energy like that for a preseason game.
- 29:53Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 29:54Sean McAllister: They said it felt like regular season.
- 29:56Sean McAllister: Vegas fans were there in full force, hyped up, ready to root on the Raiders.
- 30:01Dayna Roselli: I mean, we're coming off a pretty decent season, and they've made some great, they brought some great players on this year.
- 30:07Dayna Roselli: I think the morale is up.
- 30:09Dayna Roselli: They have a new president of the team.
- 30:11Sean McAllister: So coach, yeah, coaching staff.
- 30:14Sean McAllister: It's all it's all new.
- 30:16Dayna Roselli: It is, it is all new, everyone.
- 30:19Dayna Roselli: So uh go Raiders.
- 30:21Dayna Roselli: We're excited about that.
- 30:22Dayna Roselli: Um, some good tips today, and both of those tips in downtown Las Vegas area.
- 30:27Dayna Roselli: Reminder: if you want to sign up for the Vegas Near Me app beta version, go to the show notes.
- 30:35Dayna Roselli: It's uh uh written there with a link.
- 30:37Dayna Roselli: You click the link, put in your information, you'll get an email, and it's really easy to download the beta.
- 30:44Dayna Roselli: Uh Vegas Near Me sponsoring the podcast this week.
- 30:48Dayna Roselli: We're grateful to have them on board because we've played around with it and we have the app on our phone, and it's really useful.
- 30:54Sean McAllister: It is.
- 30:55Sean McAllister: There have been so many times I've been looking for, you know, an attraction, a restaurant.
- 31:02Sean McAllister: Um, and the app really has helped out big time because it sees where you are and then you know shows you what is near you.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: Exactly.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: Vegas near me.
- 31:14Sean McAllister: Right.
- 31:14Sean McAllister: It's not just a clever name.
- 31:16Dayna Roselli: Well, it's funny because when I talked about earlier about how I went to the Starbucks near the Silverton, I was texting with my friend and I said, Hey, where are you?
- 31:23Dayna Roselli: He said, I'm at the gym.
- 31:24Dayna Roselli: And I said, Gym, what part of town?
- 31:26Dayna Roselli: He said, Blue Diamond near the Silverton.
- 31:28Dayna Roselli: And I said, Okay, so I went to Vegas near me and plugged in coffee shops near the Silverton.
- 31:34Dayna Roselli: And the Starbucks came up that was right near there, and I said, Okay, this is where we're going.
- 31:39Dayna Roselli: So it's kind of a cool, it's it's a cool, quick, you know, if you need like just a quick thing of where I mean, because we even living here, we don't know where every single thing is all the time.
- 31:48Dayna Roselli: And if it's it's in a neighborhood that I don't travel too often, like I haven't been to Blue Diamond in a while, it's easy to find.
- 31:56Sean McAllister: And let me tell you something else about uh the listings on Vegas near me, they have put a ton of time and effort into making sure that uh the listings are all up to date so that when you you click on uh casino to see what restaurants are there, the latest, newest restaurants are listed with the correct times.
- 32:20Sean McAllister: And even uh they have a feature that shows you the last seating time.
- 32:26Dayna Roselli: I like that.
- 32:27Dayna Roselli: That's a good good one.
- 32:29Sean McAllister: Even because sometimes a restaurant might be open until 11 p.m., but the last time that they'll actually seat somebody is at 10:15.
- 32:38Sean McAllister: Right.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: You know, so if you show up later than that, you're out of luck.
- 32:41Sean McAllister: So really great, useful uh information on the Vegas Near Me app.
- 32:46Sean McAllister: Again, it's all free.
- 32:48Sean McAllister: Click the link in our show notes to download.
- 32:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and another quick story we called the Paris Las Vegas asking if Martha Stewart's restaurant was open, and they said it was from 5 to 10, but it wasn't, by the way, because then she had an opening the following weekend.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: But we then checked the Vegas Near Me app, and that was all up to date.
- 33:05Dayna Roselli: So um the app kind of knows more than some of the hotels themselves.
- 33:09Dayna Roselli: It does.
- 33:10Sean McAllister: It does.
- 33:10Sean McAllister: It's good.
- 33:11Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 33:11Dayna Roselli: Check it out, send us some feedback.
- 33:13Dayna Roselli: You can write reports right in there if you're like, oh, it would be really cool if you could do this or this needs to be improved, or hey, so we love it.
- 33:20Dayna Roselli: Um, again, like Sean mentioned, go to the show notes.
- 33:23Dayna Roselli: Okay, that was episode 131, and we'll be back for 132.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: Sean and I going to Wakuda, a new restaurant at the Venetian tonight for cocktails.
- 33:32Dayna Roselli: We're meeting our friend there.
- 33:33Dayna Roselli: So we'll have some video of that.
- 33:35Dayna Roselli: We'll talk about that next week.
- 33:37Dayna Roselli: Have a great week, everyone.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Let's go live, baby.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Let's go in my baby.
- 33:50unknown: Let's go live.
