- 0:00Speaker 1: Dave bar two Matrix Analytical on the at a bound ship.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I do want to start with Levy, and we're going
- 0:07Speaker 1: to hit a lot of Levy and John David Baker
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Golding and sold and possibly.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Okay, what we need to do is compare John David
- 0:15Speaker 2: Baker last year to Kiffen Weiss last year. Yes, what
- 0:22Speaker 2: are the differences, run pass ratios, aggressiveness on third down,
- 0:25Speaker 2: fourth down, you know, red zone, all of that stuff.
- 0:29Speaker 2: So put a pin in that one. We are going
- 0:32Speaker 2: to I think we're going to try to preview John
- 0:35Speaker 2: David Baker versus Weiss and Kiffin five. Okay, that should
- 0:41Speaker 2: be I'm hoping it's fascinating. There's always nuggets in here
- 0:44Speaker 2: where they're very, very different. You know. Another example on
- 0:48Speaker 2: that Will Stein and Kenny Dillingham right at Oregon, and
- 0:53Speaker 2: Kenny is a run heavy guy. Will came in pass
- 0:57Speaker 2: heavy and it didn't fit, and so each year it
- 1:02Speaker 2: got more and more run heavy till now. Will Stein
- 1:05Speaker 2: when he left was almost like Kenny Dillingham. You could
- 1:08Speaker 2: almost see Dan and his offensive line go, you need
- 1:11Speaker 2: to do this and run the ball more. But it
- 1:14Speaker 2: tells me Kentucky, even though he's not going to be
- 1:16Speaker 2: the play caller. I bet Kentucky's gonna be throwing the
- 1:18Speaker 2: ball a whole well, it doesn't matter who it is.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Kentucky's throwing the ball a whole lot more than you
- 1:24Speaker 2: ever seen with stoops. But and maybe even successfully so.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But I think from a Kentucky standpoint, I think you're
- 1:34Speaker 2: gonna see the pass game really get bumped up, because
- 1:37Speaker 2: that's what will Stein really likes and gravitates to.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, bar two on the Out of Bounds Show, brought
- 1:43Speaker 1: to you by Pearl River Resort. Okay, So some numbers
- 1:47Speaker 1: as you were flying over here, Jeff lebes in the
- 1:51Speaker 1: year three's on the hot seat. He's seven and eighteen overall,
- 1:54Speaker 1: one in fifteen in conference play. Last year was okay,
- 2:00Speaker 1: the year one was an absolute disaster. And and you
- 2:05Speaker 1: were talking about situationally yep, play calling, situational play calling.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So give us a rundown on Jeff Levy, his tendencies,
- 2:14Speaker 1: what he likes to do.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Third and three, third and four, third and five more.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Two. Okay. So I when when I'm when I'm parsing
- 2:21Speaker 2: through data, one of the things that I really like
- 2:25Speaker 2: to do is I don't like data as a whole
- 2:28Speaker 2: because run pass ratios can get skewed. You know you're
- 2:31Speaker 2: up twenty, you're up twenty eight, it's fourth quarter, you're
- 2:34Speaker 2: taking knees, you're running the clock. Numbers can get skewed.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So I tried to look at head coaches and play
- 2:41Speaker 2: callers when games are close one score games.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Okay, you're not worried about when they play a G
- 2:48Speaker 1: five team and they win forty five to ten.
- 2:50Speaker 3: No, you want to know what's happening in conference.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Right, right, I want to know what Jeff Levy's doing
- 2:54Speaker 2: one of the games on the line against Arizona State,
- 2:57Speaker 2: right against Toledo, right where it's where it's one the
- 3:00Speaker 2: whole dang game, right and so uh And to me,
- 3:05Speaker 2: when I when I look at situational analysis, I'm always
- 3:07Speaker 2: looking at third and fourth down, okay, And so as
- 3:11Speaker 2: we are sitting down, I asked, I literally ask, give
- 3:15Speaker 2: me a write up on Jeff levy situational football third
- 3:17Speaker 2: and fourth down in one score games in the SEC.
- 3:21Speaker 2: So on, overall, on third down attempts, he ran the
- 3:27Speaker 2: ball forty percent of the time and had a forty
- 3:32Speaker 2: one percent overall conversion rate. Fourth down, he only ran
- 3:36Speaker 2: a thirty eight percent of the time, but he had
- 3:37Speaker 2: a fifty four percent conversion rate on fourth down, so
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's really solid there. But what it says the overall
- 3:44Speaker 2: story of his numbers is Lev'ssissippi State offense is middle
- 3:48Speaker 2: of the pack in tendency, but struggles with execution. I know,
- 3:55Speaker 2: I heard everybody out there day right, right, but it
- 4:01Speaker 2: says particularly on third and long where the run game
- 4:04Speaker 2: completely breaks down. So third and seven to third and ten, Okay,
- 4:14Speaker 2: oh for seven didn't in a one score game, third
- 4:18Speaker 2: and seven to third and ten? No, it was oh
- 4:21Speaker 2: for seven on third down that was four. You know,
- 4:25Speaker 2: it was bottom of the bucket in the sec uh
- 4:28Speaker 2: third and eleven, oh for four? No, no conversions where
- 4:35Speaker 2: he ranks low on some of these things, third eleven,
- 4:38Speaker 2: passing one for thirteen. So when they passed on third
- 4:42Speaker 2: and eleven, they were one for thirteen in what I
- 4:45Speaker 2: call high what would we call that high leverage? High
- 4:48Speaker 2: pressure situation? Sure, and I know maybe it's the first quarter,
- 4:52Speaker 2: but man, a Missippi State, you're trying to win a
- 4:53Speaker 2: damn ball game, right, Everything is high pressure, high leverage
- 4:56Speaker 2: situation right now, you know, especially going into year three.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So the passing game really broke down in third and
- 5:05Speaker 2: eleven plus fourth down. Overall, they were eleven of sixteen
- 5:11Speaker 2: for fifty three point eight percent, but SEC average sixty percent.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So I mean that's that's six percentage points below the
- 5:21Speaker 2: conference average. So the decision to go was better than
- 5:24Speaker 2: a coin flip, but it was still under the conference numbers.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And then fourth and short converting fourth and short running
- 5:32Speaker 2: the football in a close ballgame, went for it four times,
- 5:36Speaker 2: and fourth and short is fourth and one two or
- 5:38Speaker 2: three went for a four times, only got one of
- 5:41Speaker 2: them worse than the SEC. Didn't have a running quarterback,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know, and you know, well, did you have a
- 5:47Speaker 2: running game? Right? Not really defensive line, see, because one
- 5:52Speaker 2: one of the things that I find really interesting is
- 5:55Speaker 2: when you look at the run to pass ratios for
- 5:58Speaker 2: Jeff relative to the the conference. He ran the ball
- 6:02Speaker 2: a lot in third and four, third and five, third
- 6:06Speaker 2: and six. He ran the ball was He was top
- 6:09Speaker 2: five in the conference in run pass ratio in third
- 6:14Speaker 2: and four, third and five, third and six, which is
- 6:16Speaker 2: not what we would expect from a passing offensive coordinator. Wow. Right, well,
- 6:21Speaker 2: so here's the question, right, here's the subjective side of it.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Does he have faith in the offense, faith in the
- 6:27Speaker 2: offensive line, faith in the quarterback? Why is he running
- 6:30Speaker 2: the floor? This is a This is a guy that
- 6:32Speaker 2: has coached quarterbacks at FAU or what ucf UCF oh,
- 6:40Speaker 2: miss Oklahoma? You know, I mean this guy has coach
- 6:44Speaker 2: quarterbacks everywhere and those quarterbacks have been really good. So
- 6:50Speaker 2: is there lack of faith in something in the offense
- 6:52Speaker 2: to be running the ball like your Georgia, Because that's
- 6:57Speaker 2: what it looks like when if you looked at all
- 6:59Speaker 2: of this stuff right here, it goes Okay, teams that
- 7:02Speaker 2: run the ball a lot on third and four, third
- 7:04Speaker 2: and five, third and six. Last year, Georgia, right, Alabama, Tennessee,
- 7:11Speaker 2: misssippis C what Mississippi C.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You know, it's just not the same personnel.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It's not the same line, it's not the same personnel.
- 7:21Speaker 3: The same coaches.
- 7:22Speaker 2: No, no, now, but now, Josh is a is one
- 7:27Speaker 2: of the top offensive coordinators in the SEC in the country,
- 7:30Speaker 2: right and he's still running it a lot. But it
- 7:35Speaker 2: surprised me that in these situations in close games, he
- 7:40Speaker 2: was going to the run when I think a lot
- 7:43Speaker 2: of fans would think, oh, he's got to be passing
- 7:46Speaker 2: the ball a lot. You know, we got Blake, we
- 7:49Speaker 2: got his offense, we should be throwing the football and
- 7:52Speaker 2: for whatever reason, you know, and you know, maybe there's
- 7:56Speaker 2: a logic behind it. I'm sure there is, but it
- 7:58Speaker 2: just seemed odd to see them caught up with something
- 8:00Speaker 2: like that. And again the rate, Yeah, he ran the
- 8:05Speaker 2: ball a lot for the conference. Okay, at third and four,
- 8:11Speaker 2: five and six. Yep. Actually third and short, third and one,
- 8:14Speaker 2: two and three. Uh, he was number four in the
- 8:17Speaker 2: SEC and run rate seventy seven point one percent.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Now here's the flip side. I actually want him to
- 8:22Speaker 1: do that this year with the six foot four, two
- 8:24Speaker 1: hundred and thirty pound QB. You know, last year, you know,
- 8:28Speaker 1: Blake's six feet one ninety and he wasn't a mobile,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know, threat this guy, I'm hoping let me find
- 8:37Speaker 1: some you know, mojoe in a path, because now you've
- 8:41Speaker 1: got a guy who can fall forward at sixty four
- 8:43Speaker 1: and get your yard.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Right right and and look at look at state though, right,
- 8:47Speaker 2: Cario Taylor, go ahead, Yeah, I just say third, third
- 8:49Speaker 2: and short. The run rate with seventy seven percent third
- 8:52Speaker 2: and short run conversion rate seventy four percent, top five
- 8:56Speaker 2: in the SEC. So third and short, you know, three
- 8:59Speaker 2: and under, they committed to the run and they converted
- 9:02Speaker 2: a lot better than the rest of the SEC. And
- 9:05Speaker 2: so that that third, four, five, and six, that's kind
- 9:08Speaker 2: of the big question mark there. And fourth and medium
- 9:14Speaker 2: pass conversions two out of four in close game situations,
- 9:19Speaker 2: and third medium run conversion is still sixty two percent.
- 9:23Speaker 2: He was running at at a higher rate, but his
- 9:25Speaker 2: conversion rate was still solid in the SEC. I just
- 9:30Speaker 2: I just thought it was interesting that I expected him
- 9:33Speaker 2: to have higher pass to rush ratios when really he
- 9:36Speaker 2: had higher run to pass ratios, and then at some
- 9:39Speaker 2: point it just falls off. I was talking to Elis Johnson,
- 9:42Speaker 2: a former defensive coordinator at I think, yeah, ell, it
- 9:46Speaker 2: has been everywhere. And I think he's got a championship
- 9:49Speaker 2: ringer too. And he always told me, he was like,
- 9:51Speaker 2: you know, one of the things he would do is
- 9:53Speaker 2: map out win the offense stopped calling runs at one
- 9:58Speaker 2: point third, fourth or five, third, six, and he said
- 10:02Speaker 2: it would take you know, a week to do the
- 10:05Speaker 2: previous seven weeks getting ready for the next game. And
- 10:09Speaker 2: I was like, hey, what's this. And there's Alex Golish
- 10:12Speaker 2: last year, third and seven stopped running the ball all together.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So he was it was. It was funny because he's
- 10:19Speaker 2: just laugh at how we can take any offensive coordinator
- 10:22Speaker 2: in the country and give him exactly what he said
- 10:25Speaker 2: to spend weeks on. Yeah they did that. Yeah, I
- 10:29Speaker 2: mean before this, it took him forever.
- 10:31Speaker 1: A par two on the out of bounds shift brought
- 10:33Speaker 1: to you by the Goldenman Casino. Okay, So Levy, we
- 10:38Speaker 1: went through some of those numbers, John David Baker, you
- 10:45Speaker 1: expect him. I think people don't realize how much Lane
- 10:49Speaker 1: likes to run the football.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Okay, great example. Look at this while we're here. Third
- 10:53Speaker 2: down run rate in the SEC last year. So where
- 10:56Speaker 2: does Levy fall relative to the leaders? So third and
- 10:59Speaker 2: short one to three yards seventy seven percent, number four
- 11:03Speaker 2: in the SEC. Georgia was number one. They ran at
- 11:06Speaker 2: eighty four percent of the time. Alabama was last. They
- 11:10Speaker 2: only ran at fifty four percent.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Of the time. They couldn't run it last year. They
- 11:13Speaker 3: were awful.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Rhich is not Bama like, No, it's it's it's a
- 11:17Speaker 1: second remember life, Bama has run the football, even on
- 11:20Speaker 1: years they didn't do what they wanted. They have run
- 11:22Speaker 1: the football, right, But then look at a third and medium, four,
- 11:27Speaker 1: five and six, Mississippi State seventh in the conference. Ole
- 11:32Speaker 1: Miss led the conference forty six percent. They ran it
- 11:36Speaker 1: on third and four, five and six. Damn, third and seven, eight,
- 11:40Speaker 1: nine and ten Mississippi State tenth in the conference, Conference
- 11:45Speaker 1: leader ole Miss thirty five percent.
- 11:48Speaker 2: How about that third and long? All right, Mississippi State
- 11:55Speaker 2: number seven leader ole Mis. Ole Miss had the big
- 12:00Speaker 2: run to pass ratio in the SEC last year. Who
- 12:02Speaker 2: thunk Trinidad champs in close games? Close games? Mind you?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Mind you? This is this is one score games Lane
- 12:12Speaker 2: and or Charlie. I don't know who the hell it is.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I don't care right it is, but but the Rebels
- 12:18Speaker 2: ran the football and they kept running it in close games.
- 12:23Speaker 2: They were not afraid of running the football, and I
- 12:25Speaker 2: maybe maybe that's the sign of the strength of an
- 12:29Speaker 2: offensive coordinator that is really comfortable in mixing up the
- 12:33Speaker 2: play calls.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So Lane, Lane was willing to run it almost regardless
- 12:41Speaker 1: on third down of if it was seven eight yards,
- 12:44Speaker 1: but if at four, five and six.
- 12:47Speaker 3: He led the conference, So.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He's like, hey, I got Trinidad, I got Key one Lacy,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and I think we can we can go get yards.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Right, right, And then you look at states conversion ratios. Right,
- 13:00Speaker 2: when they ran on third and short, they converted it
- 13:04Speaker 2: seventy four percent of the time. When they passed on
- 13:06Speaker 2: third and short fifty percent of the time, eleventh in
- 13:10Speaker 2: the SEC, third medium run conversions sixty three percent, pass
- 13:15Speaker 2: conversions thirty nine percent. Okay, and then third and long
- 13:20Speaker 2: seven to ten yards they converted that at thirty four
- 13:23Speaker 2: and a half percent, ninth in the SEC. And then
- 13:26Speaker 2: once it was once it was third plus eleven, it
- 13:28Speaker 2: was just everybody went to go get a beer while
- 13:31Speaker 2: they waited for the punt, right, and it was it
- 13:33Speaker 2: was a seven point seven percent conversion right now. If
- 13:36Speaker 2: nothing worked, they didn't run the ball at that point.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So but you look inside these numbers and you go, okay,
- 13:43Speaker 2: passing on third and short, passing on third and medium,
- 13:46Speaker 2: they were both remarkably worse than running the football, remarkably worse.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And so Jeff would never say it, right, this is
- 13:55Speaker 2: SEC media week, so it's just going to be a
- 13:57Speaker 2: word salad of blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But I looking at these numbers, I don't think Jeff
- 14:05Speaker 2: had any faith in his quarterback passing the football last
- 14:09Speaker 2: year Wow, and had a lot more faith in the
- 14:15Speaker 2: run game, and it produced. It produced, And maybe it
- 14:18Speaker 2: wasn't the maybe it was the schemes in terms of
- 14:22Speaker 2: how the run game match with the offensive line or whatever.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But these pass numbers inspire no confidence. I'm gonna look
- 14:29Speaker 2: at this. Fifty percent on third and short, far below
- 14:33Speaker 2: the rush rate, barely under forty percent on on third medium,
- 14:38Speaker 2: and they're running it. They're converting rushes in the sec
- 14:43Speaker 2: third and four, third and five, third and six at
- 14:45Speaker 2: sixty three percent in tight football games. So I think
- 14:50Speaker 2: the best thing to take away from this is Jeff
- 14:53Speaker 2: is doing really well in the running game. All the
- 14:57Speaker 2: running numbers conversion wise situation football close games, they're all
- 15:02Speaker 2: in the top six of the SEC. Everything in the
- 15:04Speaker 2: passing is all on the bottom half, which goes against
- 15:07Speaker 2: everything we would think it should be logical. So maybe
- 15:10Speaker 2: the quarterback just wasn't very good.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Okay, and that I think there was something to that.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And Blake didn't run and when he did he didn't
- 15:17Speaker 1: run effectively. And Camaro Taylor is a runner first, and
- 15:21Speaker 1: he's huge at six foot four, two thirty, so it'll
- 15:24Speaker 1: be interesting to see next year at the end of
- 15:26Speaker 1: the year, when Bartwo and I are going over this,
- 15:28Speaker 1: what Jeff's decides to do, right, Like does he stay
- 15:32Speaker 1: with this, you know, play calling right, especially knowing that
- 15:35Speaker 1: now you've got Camrio who can run it with a
- 15:37Speaker 1: tailback he was having success with without AQB, who was
- 15:42Speaker 1: a threat. That's something to think about and look at
- 15:45Speaker 1: as we get into the season.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It is and I think I think one of the
- 15:48Speaker 2: things in our discussions that kind of sparked an idea
- 15:51Speaker 2: in my mind is that look at the end of
- 15:56Speaker 2: September and how what is the run to pass race?
- 16:00Speaker 2: What does the go for it on fourth down ratio?
- 16:02Speaker 2: Like the article I did on comparing Hypel and Goalish,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and we'll get to both those guys in other segments,
- 16:09Speaker 2: but Goalish went for it on fourth down forty five
- 16:12Speaker 2: percent more than Josh did last year.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Forty five percent.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Right, I mean, you know? And so is that indicative
- 16:21Speaker 2: of the type of play in the SEC and the
- 16:24Speaker 2: AAC or is it indicative in the kind of quarterback
- 16:30Speaker 2: that Alex think he thought he had and the kind
- 16:33Speaker 2: of quarterback Josh thought he had, right so so, and
- 16:38Speaker 2: to carry that over to Levy. If we look at
- 16:41Speaker 2: third and short, third and medium, fourth and short, fourth
- 16:45Speaker 2: and medium, is he going for it more or less?
- 16:50Speaker 2: And is he passing or running more or less? That
- 16:53Speaker 2: may be a window. Not just Jeff, but by the
- 16:56Speaker 2: end of the Stember, we can go, oh, look at
- 16:59Speaker 2: fourth down attempts are down passed, the run ratios down.
- 17:03Speaker 2: This guy won't admit it, but he thinks's quarterback isn't
- 17:06Speaker 2: as good as the other guys.
- 17:08Speaker 1: So I want to ask you Ques. You mentioned Georgia
- 17:10Speaker 1: at eighty four percent. Yeah, and people, it's funny that
- 17:15Speaker 1: you threw that out with Kirby smart and I very
- 17:18Speaker 1: much understand why he would do that, but especially pre
- 17:22Speaker 1: before everything got fractured and splintered. I wonder if they're
- 17:26Speaker 1: having the success that they want and if he's actually
- 17:30Speaker 1: running it a little too much, or if you just
- 17:34Speaker 1: have top five talent that you know you lean on
- 17:37Speaker 1: that and you feel like X amount of whatever percentage
- 17:40Speaker 1: of the time, whatever that good number is that you
- 17:43Speaker 1: have devocation line or whatever you know, is that is
- 17:50Speaker 1: that two run heavy? I guess is Well, let's let's
- 17:53Speaker 1: look let's look at Georgia. I mean, Georgia was running
- 17:56Speaker 1: it on third and short and they were converting it
- 18:00Speaker 1: eighty one percent.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Then that's a win, right, which was in the run game,
- 18:05Speaker 2: they had the third best conversion run game behind Tennessee,
- 18:09Speaker 2: who was running the Valentine right in Missouri.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I'm not hearty with Missouri from this from Mississippi.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Right, And what's amazing? Get this? Get this, so third
- 18:21Speaker 2: and short, Alabama's run game converted more, Arkansas's run game
- 18:26Speaker 2: converted way more. Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State.
- 18:33Speaker 2: When you passed on third short, it was fifty percent. Right,
- 18:37Speaker 2: everybody but Oklahoma, Texas, A and M and Vanderbilt had
- 18:42Speaker 2: a better pass conversion rate than a run conversion rate.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Oklahoma didn't have a run game, and am had a quarterback,
- 18:50Speaker 2: and Vanderbilt obviously was fueled by Pavia. Right. And so
- 18:56Speaker 2: I'm starting to think that there might be a window
- 18:59Speaker 2: in the number to what the head coach and the
- 19:02Speaker 2: offensive coordinator think about their quarterback without saying it, right,
- 19:06Speaker 2: how much? How do they utilize them in specific situations
- 19:11Speaker 2: going forward? So yeah, I mean Georgia ran it, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 2: exclusively third and short and they just converted eighty percent.
- 19:19Speaker 2: It was just that simple. But then you go over
- 19:22Speaker 2: to third medium and again eighty percent conversion rate. When
- 19:27Speaker 2: they ran it, they had a run.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Game, and some people didn't think they were as good
- 19:33Speaker 1: whatever that means. But I mean, again, that's just all
- 19:36Speaker 1: the eyeball tests and gut and that's just watching games
- 19:39Speaker 1: and drinking beer and eating means and thinking, you know
- 19:42Speaker 1: that what we see, you know, we sell X, Y.
- 19:45Speaker 2: And Z, right, and so I'm really one of the
- 19:49Speaker 2: things that I'm excited about is trying to find behaviors
- 19:52Speaker 2: inside the numbers that tell us what they think of
- 19:54Speaker 2: their players and they're lying.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Okay, and tying that in with either having a dual
- 20:00Speaker 1: threat quarterback or a statue right or somewhere in between,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know, like Trinidad bounces around, runs around. Now Camrio
- 20:09Speaker 1: this year, I mean, he may say he may be
- 20:11Speaker 1: able to save Levy's job because of being six foot four,
- 20:15Speaker 1: two thirty and being able to run the football. We
- 20:17Speaker 1: don't know, but it gives Jeff an option for that
- 20:20Speaker 1: because he hasn't had one the last two years.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Right right, Yeah, so we're gonna find out.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Hey, day bar two on the Out of Bounds Show,
- 20:29Speaker 1: brought to you by Ice Cold, michelob Ultra and Wings
- 20:32Speaker 1: for the win. We're having a great time here just
- 20:36Speaker 1: bssing about coach effect.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I love the war too.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I like that you redid coach effect and I love
- 20:42Speaker 1: the war thing because people have loved war in baseball
- 20:46Speaker 1: forever and then when fantasy baseball and war just came football.
- 20:52Speaker 2: At how about the UH the U instead of the
- 20:55Speaker 2: last ten years, how about the last five years? The
- 20:58Speaker 2: Whiskey sixty one lowest performing program over the last five
- 21:02Speaker 2: years in power for football, U U C l A
- 21:10Speaker 2: Mississippi State, No, A lot more talent. Who in the
- 21:17Speaker 2: SEC just makes you go.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Auburn, Yeah, Auburn. Gosh, Harson and Freeze just.
- 21:26Speaker 2: And Freeze was only minus point eighty seven. Harrison just
- 21:29Speaker 2: just smoked it.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Harson was just that was It's going to be interesting
- 21:33Speaker 1: to see if they should have, you know, just pulled
- 21:37Speaker 1: the belt tight on the waist and said, you know,
- 21:43Speaker 1: DJ is It looks like DJ is really really good
- 21:45Speaker 1: on one side of the ball. This is the weirdest
- 21:47Speaker 1: thing in the world. Whatever happened to Hugh on offense,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but because of what he did on this and Liberty
- 21:52Speaker 1: were good we're gonna, we're gonna do this one more time.
- 21:55Speaker 3: But right couldn't do it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Then? Look at so I just pulled the list of
- 22:02Speaker 2: I asked that to pull me the list of the
- 22:04Speaker 2: biggest boom to bus. Okay, Sadderfield plus three point twenty
- 22:13Speaker 2: five games at app State minus point five to six
- 22:17Speaker 2: in the Power four. Now at Cincinnati, Billy Plush plus
- 22:22Speaker 2: three games at G five. Right now, can consider Uh,
- 22:27Speaker 2: some Roll's done it at two places, and he's a
- 22:29Speaker 2: plus three point sixty seven. Okay, so Billy's plus three
- 22:33Speaker 2: minus one and a half at Florida, huge drop off. Wow,
- 22:39Speaker 2: Darryl Hazel really good at ken State, horrible at Perdue
- 22:43Speaker 2: at Wells, I mean Perdue. Yeah, I know, I know, brutal.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Other than Joe Tiller, I know, I'm Drew Brees the
- 22:53Speaker 2: biggest disappointment so far. I think we'd agree. Uh, and
- 22:57Speaker 2: I call these guys outliers because we have a lot
- 22:59Speaker 2: of eyes. Most guys that are really high at the
- 23:02Speaker 2: at the group of five, group of six don't crash,
- 23:06Speaker 2: you just don't. These are really anominalies. Hugh going from
- 23:09Speaker 2: plus four at Liberty to better than minus one at
- 23:14Speaker 2: Auburn is you know, unbelievable Parson, unbelievable, Sadderfield, Billy Napier. Uh.
- 23:25Speaker 2: And then you know one at another guy who's on
- 23:28Speaker 2: the super hot seat right now, dude, how good was
- 23:30Speaker 2: Mike Norvella Memphis? Right? Yeah, wasn't he just smoking it?
- 23:36Speaker 2: And then you have Scott Frost. There's number one or
- 23:42Speaker 2: up there. Frost was the biggest disaster of all and
- 23:45Speaker 2: it's not even close. So his his his time at UCF,
- 23:49Speaker 2: he was almost plus five games a year. Wow. At
- 23:53Speaker 2: Nebraska he was worse than minus two day. What what
- 24:00Speaker 2: I mean he was basically he was basically Bill Snyder. Yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 2: you know, I mean the blood read for Okay, here
- 24:11Speaker 2: it is for you. You love this. Scott Frost is
- 24:14Speaker 2: the poster child for how misleading a single spectacular season
- 24:17Speaker 2: could be.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Well, and we see that bar two like Sam Pittman
- 24:22Speaker 1: jumped up in one nine games, Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And then it was just a matter then they had
- 24:27Speaker 3: to re up him.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Look look right here in your backyard, good old Larry Fedora. Yeah, dude,
- 24:32Speaker 2: he smoked that one season, parladed into North Carolina, had
- 24:35Speaker 2: three crappy years, had a huge top twenty five year.
- 24:38Speaker 2: They renew him for another four and he does the
- 24:40Speaker 2: same thing again, right. I mean, you want to talk
- 24:44Speaker 2: about one hit wonders, you know.
- 24:47Speaker 1: A fortune rich, Wow, I love it, Larry Fedora' Southern
- 24:51Speaker 1: Miss and No. One one big season at each And
- 24:56Speaker 1: that's what you got to think about. Like Pittman jumped
- 24:58Speaker 1: up in one nine, Beamer jumped up in one nine
- 25:01Speaker 1: or ten two years ago. But and eighties automatically renew them. Yeah,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but you don't have to do that now with that
- 25:11Speaker 1: boy jumping You don't have to have a coach where
- 25:13Speaker 1: you have to say he's got a five year deal,
- 25:15Speaker 1: a four year deal.
- 25:18Speaker 2: But like, would you renew Jeff Levy if.
- 25:21Speaker 3: He goes six and six? No, you shouldn't know you,
- 25:27Speaker 3: I mean maybe maybe you keep him.
- 25:29Speaker 2: What's the benefit?
- 25:31Speaker 3: What's the benefit of reupping it? In the just paperwork? Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 3: it's not. Well it's money.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Well, I mean, the problem is what they had to
- 25:39Speaker 1: pay Sam Pittman and what they had to pay some
- 25:41Speaker 1: of these other guys that Fedora North Carolina. The problem
- 25:45Speaker 1: is when they have that one season, then you re
- 25:47Speaker 1: up them and then you fire them.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Two years later. You're still on the hook for a
- 25:51Speaker 3: bunch of dough.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So all right, Uh, Dave bart two on the Out
- 26:00Speaker 1: of Bounds Show brought to you by Pearl River Resort
- 26:04Speaker 1: and Philip M's Steakhouse. Yeah, Championship golf at Dancing Rabbit
- 26:11Speaker 1: Golf Club and the Bone and Rabbi Philip ems is
- 26:16Speaker 1: fabulous saffron chowder. We'll sit in the bar. It's gonna
- 26:20Speaker 1: be great looking forward to that. Also the Steaks and
- 26:24Speaker 1: Kessler Prime Bar two is going to get some of
- 26:26Speaker 1: that to tonight, so that'll be that'll be great. All right,
- 26:31Speaker 1: Where do we want to go from here? Let's see
- 26:34Speaker 1: war I had a question here?
- 26:37Speaker 2: Well, there's there's got places we can go, right, I
- 26:41Speaker 2: mean we got Golish and Venables and Clark Lee and
- 26:44Speaker 2: I mean there's just we got a lot and we're
- 26:48Speaker 2: going to cover this in shows later too.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Now, let's I want to look at Old miss at Florida.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Can we do that? Or is that? Is that too
- 27:01Speaker 3: far off the beaten path?
- 27:02Speaker 2: Oh?
- 27:02Speaker 1: Okay, I just or do we go ahead and do
- 27:05Speaker 1: the Ole Miss Lsu Super Deep Dive or do we
- 27:07Speaker 1: go Florida since it's the game after we know Bar
- 27:09Speaker 1: two is going to be on huh deep Dive tomorrow. Okay,
- 27:13Speaker 1: all right, m yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, we can deep
- 27:17Speaker 1: dive live.
- 27:18Speaker 3: That'll be good.
- 27:19Speaker 2: All right, which way we're going? Now, what do you think?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Well, Mississippi State and Ole Miss play Auburn and now
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's Goalish. Should we do that and and brame that
- 27:34Speaker 1: up because Levee should have a chance to win. I
- 27:37Speaker 1: mean the way I see at Auburn sixty percent chance
- 27:40Speaker 1: to win Mississippi State forty I.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Mean that's rough bar two.
- 27:44Speaker 1: May like run those numbers a week of it, maybe
- 27:46Speaker 1: fifty seven to forty three.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 27:49Speaker 1: My point in that is, it's still a winnable game
- 27:52Speaker 1: at home for Levey. It's not like Auburn is maoson
- 27:56Speaker 1: seven years, eight years ago where they were.
- 27:58Speaker 2: And it's not like Goalish is really done anything. I mean,
- 28:03Speaker 2: he had he had a he had he had one
- 28:05Speaker 2: good year. He had two negative coach effect years and
- 28:07Speaker 2: a positive one. Okay, I mean you know, you you
- 28:10Speaker 2: look at his profile and at at South Florida and
- 28:19Speaker 2: his first year actually, you know, I'll give it to him.
- 28:22Speaker 2: His first year he was he was minus point eight four,
- 28:24Speaker 2: so he's minus one game six and six. Next year
- 28:27Speaker 2: he was six and six, minus one game, and last
- 28:30Speaker 2: year he was plus two games. But he didn't beat
- 28:33Speaker 2: anybody last year that he didn't out recruit. I got
- 28:37Speaker 2: you right, you know. And then you take a look
- 28:40Speaker 2: at his his ability to generate momentum in a game.
- 28:45Speaker 2: If he doesn't have peak momentum in a game, he's
- 28:49Speaker 2: fifteen fift fifteen, right, And so his career coach effect
- 28:55Speaker 2: after three games uh is is plus point twenty four.
- 29:00Speaker 2: So he is since twenty ten. Remember, with three years now,
- 29:04Speaker 2: he's qualified right to be in the in the look
- 29:07Speaker 2: at it so far, listeners, he was the head coach
- 29:11Speaker 2: at South Florida for the Bulls for three years and
- 29:15Speaker 2: basically he was pretty just yeah, not awesome, not terrible.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Yeah, he is a landed the Auburn job.
- 29:22Speaker 2: He's forty fifth percentile of all head coaches since twenty ten,
- 29:27Speaker 2: and his current coach effect ranks him seventy four out
- 29:36Speaker 2: of one nineteen thirty eighth percentile, so below average. Right now,
- 29:42Speaker 2: his floor is a negative one game, his ceiling is
- 29:45Speaker 2: plus two, and so you look at his projected wins. Now,
- 29:50Speaker 2: his projected wins, it's his first year and the hardest
- 29:55Speaker 2: move in college football is G six head coach to
- 30:00Speaker 2: power fore head coach. Okay, Okay, the easiest one is
- 30:04Speaker 2: the opposite way is Dan going from Florida to UNLB.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Guys that go out of the Power four are usually
- 30:12Speaker 2: who they're going to be right out of the gate. Okay.
- 30:16Speaker 2: The guys going from Alex Golis from South Florida to Auburn. Yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 2: take away a game, just like that. Take away a
- 30:22Speaker 2: game from everybody, John Summer, all take away a game. Okay.
- 30:27Speaker 2: So you look at Alex and his projection with his
- 30:33Speaker 2: with his coach effect is six point eight wins. But
- 30:38Speaker 2: we got to take one away for it being the
- 30:39Speaker 2: first year. So it's five point eight. Now, the market
- 30:42Speaker 2: line is six and a half. That's the over under.
- 30:45Speaker 2: That's the total on Auburn right now. That was fan
- 30:49Speaker 2: duel and or DraftKings as of a couple of weeks ago. Okay,
- 30:52Speaker 2: so we're at six and a half. The projection is
- 30:55Speaker 2: six point eight, so it's right on it. But you
- 30:58Speaker 2: take one away for it being his first year. Now
- 31:03Speaker 2: you may say, depending on how you analyze it, if
- 31:05Speaker 2: this is something you want to bet, you go, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 2: I bringing over a quarterback? You know what did he
- 31:11Speaker 2: bring from South Florid. Yeah, Baron Brown start round, right,
- 31:15Speaker 2: and everybody loves him, right, so maybe that makes up
- 31:18Speaker 2: for it, right right, But it still tells me we're
- 31:20Speaker 2: straddling between six and seven wins. It projects the most
- 31:24Speaker 2: likely number for him is six and six. The next
- 31:28Speaker 2: most likely number is five and seven at twenty four percent,
- 31:31Speaker 2: and then seven and five at nineteen percent. So the
- 31:35Speaker 2: Brown might be worth one more game, But so far
- 31:42Speaker 2: in his career we got two down and one up
- 31:44Speaker 2: in terms of coach effect, and overall that averages out
- 31:47Speaker 2: to be a pretty sene beemersh head coach right now?
- 31:53Speaker 1: Oh wow, okay, so there you go. Alex Golish is Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 1: he didn't do anything remarkable. Jackson is South Florida.
- 32:03Speaker 2: He had a really good year laf.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So, by the way, Florida has to go all right,
- 32:06Speaker 1: so you're talking about summerroll, you're talking about Golish, Florida
- 32:11Speaker 1: has to go to Auburn week three. So you got
- 32:17Speaker 1: summer all, you got the two G five guys who
- 32:20Speaker 1: just made the jump to Power four week three at Auburn,
- 32:24Speaker 1: Florida at Auburn.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And if you look at at Golish, he
- 32:32Speaker 2: is let me, look at these numbers here for him.
- 32:36Speaker 2: There was something that I found that was remarkably interesting
- 32:42Speaker 2: with Golish versus Hypel, depending on what point of the
- 32:47Speaker 2: game it was at. So fourth quarter, so Hypel in
- 32:56Speaker 2: the and these are all close games, right third down?
- 33:00Speaker 2: Hypel passed one hundred percent of the time on third
- 33:04Speaker 2: down and more than eight but then flips it to
- 33:09Speaker 2: under sixty seven percent. It's it's the it's the it's
- 33:18Speaker 2: the passing. This is what's interesting because we talked about
- 33:21Speaker 2: your better offensive coordinators running and passing and so forth,
- 33:25Speaker 2: and goali Ish is just way more aggressive on fourth down,
- 33:33Speaker 2: uh and passing on lower yardage downs.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I wonder if he'll be more conservative in the SEC
- 33:40Speaker 1: or maybe Brown's that good, or maybe he'll just continue
- 33:43Speaker 1: to like, yeah.
- 33:43Speaker 2: What if it's Brown right right? So it's it's gonna
- 33:47Speaker 2: be interesting again that.
- 33:48Speaker 3: And it also you're talking about the runner passed.
- 33:51Speaker 1: How much autonomy does the coach give the player to
- 33:54Speaker 1: go the line of scrimmage and figure out if the
- 33:56Speaker 1: box is loaded or if it's a light box. And
- 33:58Speaker 1: you got to you know, a lot lot of times
- 34:00Speaker 1: guys have a run in a pass play, and what
- 34:02Speaker 1: is that quarterback, Like, what is his tendency to does
- 34:06Speaker 1: he want to make the box favor him whichever way
- 34:09Speaker 1: that is?
- 34:09Speaker 3: I mean, you know, there's all sorts of.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Variables and things going on, right, But look at the
- 34:16Speaker 2: look at the Golish balance though, right, so once you
- 34:19Speaker 2: hit look at these look at these numbers though Golish
- 34:22Speaker 2: and Hypel. Uh, since we're since we're on Auburn and
- 34:25Speaker 2: sticking in the sec third and nine last year rush
- 34:30Speaker 2: rate or I should go the other way, I should
- 34:31Speaker 2: go pass rate. Okay, Josh passed eighty nine percent of
- 34:35Speaker 2: the time on third and nine. Golish only seventy one
- 34:41Speaker 2: percent of the time third and ten. Uh, Josh always
- 34:46Speaker 2: passed third and eleven. Josh always passed third and twelve.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Josh always passed Goalish. And this is Brown, right, I
- 34:53Speaker 2: don't know. I'm guessing Brown can run a third of
- 34:56Speaker 2: the time on third and ten, ran the football the
- 35:00Speaker 2: quarterback third of the time, third and eleven quarterback third
- 35:04Speaker 2: of the time, third and twelve quarterback or a draw.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So Goalish is a lot less predictable last year than
- 35:13Speaker 2: Hypel was now. Hypel may have the ultimate eraser in
- 35:17Speaker 2: terms of talent, with that running back right. So to me,
- 35:21Speaker 2: million dollar question is Brown the speed of the SEC?
- 35:26Speaker 2: How quickly can they adapt Alex in twenty twenty five,
- 35:30Speaker 2: what's much less predictable and much more aggressive than Joshua was.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Will that carry over into the SEC?
- 35:38Speaker 1: And Tennessee fans are frustrated with hypel, which is shut up,
- 35:43Speaker 1: shut I mean, he's done it.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Getting who you getting? Who you get? Who's better?
- 35:48Speaker 1: OC, that's that's that's a great question. Who can you
- 35:53Speaker 1: actually go get that's better?
- 35:55Speaker 2: And you're also firing your new defensive coordinator. You paid
- 35:58Speaker 2: a fortune two to help win a national title.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Jim Leonard No, No, the guy that you state at State?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah Knowles, Yeah, Jim, Jim Knowles.
- 36:08Speaker 2: So you get rid of that too. So you got one.
- 36:10Speaker 2: So now I don't think he is that great because
- 36:15Speaker 2: his defenses are highly complex and it takes about three
- 36:17Speaker 2: or four years for everybody to catch up to him.
- 36:20Speaker 2: And he got a little lucky at Oklahoma State because basically,
- 36:25Speaker 2: as a starting defensive eleven was six year COVID seniors
- 36:30Speaker 2: and they've been in his system forever. So yeah, he
- 36:33Speaker 2: had a top five defense. But there's a little special
- 36:35Speaker 2: circumstance to put all of that together. But again, when
- 36:38Speaker 2: you're getting rid of Hypel the head coach, you're getting
- 36:41Speaker 2: rid of Hypel the play caller. And he's a national
- 36:43Speaker 2: championship level play caller for his career in my opinion,
- 36:47Speaker 2: and you have Knowles who's good, not great, but still
- 36:51Speaker 2: really good and inside the numbers. One of the things
- 36:56Speaker 2: that we have been seeing is it's very very consistent.
- 37:01Speaker 2: The more turnover you have, the harder it buries your program.
- 37:05Speaker 2: At some point you have to just shut up and
- 37:09Speaker 2: eat it and let the guy cook for a while,
- 37:12Speaker 2: just to bring some stability, you know, like a Stoops
- 37:16Speaker 2: at Kentucky. Look, he did a good job with talent,
- 37:18Speaker 2: but he never really coached about the talent his entire career, right,
- 37:22Speaker 2: But they were churning through guys. You just had to say,
- 37:26Speaker 2: we've got to hit the brakes and just balance this.
- 37:28Speaker 2: So that's another thing is we were just talking about
- 37:32Speaker 2: what if Jeff goes five and seven, six and six,
- 37:34Speaker 2: can you get rid of him? Sure you can, but
- 37:37Speaker 2: that would make what fifth head coach in seven six years,
- 37:41Speaker 2: seven years, eight years? Stand right? I mean, we can't
- 37:45Speaker 2: get into this cycle.
- 37:48Speaker 1: But if you know that, you can't get it done right, you.
- 37:53Speaker 2: You got to cut the cord. So what's your line
- 37:56Speaker 2: in the sand? Six and six minimum?
- 37:59Speaker 1: I would I think six and six, but but I'm
- 38:02Speaker 1: I also leaned that he needs to go seven and
- 38:04Speaker 1: five to retain his to to get another year. Okay
- 38:07Speaker 1: and done anything that should say we should keep him
- 38:11Speaker 1: and done anything. Well, No, he's seven and eighteen overall
- 38:14Speaker 1: and one in fifteen in conference play. And that's a
- 38:17Speaker 1: that's against an interim coach, and Bobby Petrino in Arkansas
- 38:22Speaker 1: last year that was you know, So that's that's that's
- 38:25Speaker 1: where we are. If I if you were, if you're
- 38:30Speaker 1: a head coach and and I was an athletic director
- 38:33Speaker 1: and I walked in and said to you, bar two,
- 38:38Speaker 1: I want you to fire Pete Kaikowski and hire Will Muschamp.
- 38:41Speaker 3: What would you.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Say, are you cutting the jack? Yeah? I mean I
- 38:48Speaker 2: oh man, that one hurts.
- 38:49Speaker 1: We're talking about Texas defensive coordinator was fired by Sark
- 38:54Speaker 1: and Sark hired Will Muschamp, who's a bigger name, especially
- 38:57Speaker 1: in this area. And I think the common fan believes
- 39:01Speaker 1: must Champs better than Kaikowski because they can't pronounce his
- 39:03Speaker 1: name and they they have it, they didn't know anything
- 39:06Speaker 1: about him, or two go ahead, I said, Dave, I
- 39:10Speaker 1: really feel strongly that we need to fire pe Kaikowski
- 39:13Speaker 1: and hire Wilmas champus DC.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Actually, that is a good little curveball you threw at me,
- 39:19Speaker 2: because I have the defensive coordinator grades in here since
- 39:26Speaker 2: twenty ten. When did must chav last call plays?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Now, that's a good question. Did he call plays for
- 39:33Speaker 1: a year or so with Kirby? Prior to that he
- 39:40Speaker 1: was the South Carolina head coach. Prior to that he
- 39:43Speaker 1: was the Florida head coach. I think he was the
- 39:44Speaker 1: Auburn in Texas DC for a window before going on
- 39:49Speaker 1: his head coaching deal. Yeah, Texas and Auburn or Auburn
- 39:55Speaker 1: in Texas, and then got the Florida job fired, got
- 39:59Speaker 1: the South Carolina fired, and then Kirby hired him at Georgia.
- 40:04Speaker 1: He was in house on the field, and then I
- 40:07Speaker 1: think back in house or something.
- 40:09Speaker 3: It's a good question.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I think there was one year with Georgia, but maybe
- 40:13Speaker 1: that's just as much Kirby as it is, you know,
- 40:19Speaker 1: must Sham. I mean, obviously you've talked about how Kirby's
- 40:22Speaker 1: number one along with Venables and I think kay Kowski
- 40:27Speaker 1: since two thousand.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Yeah, kayak Kowski. Look, Pete was with Chris Peterson. A
- 40:34Speaker 2: lot of people don't know his background.
- 40:35Speaker 1: He was with Chris pH at Washington, not Boise, in Washington, Washington.
- 40:40Speaker 3: I knew he was there at Washington.
- 40:42Speaker 2: And he got to Washington and that defense that there's
- 40:44Speaker 2: a reason the defense went to that were incredible. The
- 40:48Speaker 2: d and the players drafted were incredible. H And he
- 40:54Speaker 2: did it everywhere, right, I mean, it was it was.
- 40:57Speaker 2: It was at Boise, it was at Washington, and I've
- 41:02Speaker 2: always felt I remember, I remember seeing his numbers and
- 41:05Speaker 2: it reminded me of Dave Randa. And when Dave Randa
- 41:07Speaker 2: went to l s U, I was like, Okay, Dave
- 41:09Speaker 2: Randa is going to leave with the national title at
- 41:11Speaker 2: LSU because of l s u's talent. Sure, right, I
- 41:15Speaker 2: mean it's just naturally there in the state and at
- 41:17Speaker 2: that program. Uh. And Dave was able to do that,
- 41:21Speaker 2: not so much head coach, but good DC, great DC.
- 41:26Speaker 2: And kayak Kowski when he went to Texas, I'm like, wow,
- 41:28Speaker 2: is he good enough to overcome Sark being an average
- 41:32Speaker 2: head coach? Okay? Because oh, while we're on the subject
- 41:36Speaker 2: of coach effect Steve Sarkisian eleven seasons, zero point zero
- 41:46Speaker 2: six coach effects.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Yeah, of course you.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Want to talk about you want to Actually, Steve and
- 41:55Speaker 2: and and Shane Beemer look almost the same on paper
- 41:58Speaker 2: in terms of their effect on time.
- 42:00Speaker 1: So basically Start coached at Washington Southern Callan Texas, where
- 42:04Speaker 1: he had the better talent majority of the time, and
- 42:07Speaker 1: he doesn't take advantage of it.
- 42:10Speaker 2: No, in fact, without the last couple of years at Texas,
- 42:15Speaker 2: which has been really good years, right, he's he's he's
- 42:18Speaker 2: like minus one. He's bad, just not good at all.
- 42:23Speaker 2: And and I did I thought I thought kay Kowski
- 42:25Speaker 2: could overcome him, and kay Kowski was carrying it. This
- 42:30Speaker 2: is this is a Texas is a program that has
- 42:33Speaker 2: regressed its offensive scoring efficiency every year for three years.
- 42:37Speaker 2: And the defense is what has been winning football games
- 42:40Speaker 2: in my opinion, at least on paper. And but then
- 42:44Speaker 2: Steve came out and said, oh, I'm having to do
- 42:46Speaker 2: too much running the offense and the defense or something
- 42:49Speaker 2: like that. Oh that's why he did say, right, he
- 42:51Speaker 2: totally threw him under the bus. And then I was like, oh,
- 42:54Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley, here's your opportunity.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Oh, that would have been that would have been filthy.
- 42:59Speaker 1: It would have been Lincoln waving glorious. But then he
- 43:02Speaker 1: goes out Southern hires.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Gary Patterson has been falling naked through broken glass for
- 43:08Speaker 2: ten years trying to get a job and finally got
- 43:11Speaker 2: somebody to buy.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Oh my goodness.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Gary Patterson, who is at TCU forever, is back as
- 43:17Speaker 1: a DC for Lincoln Riley, and kait Kowski's at the
- 43:20Speaker 1: Beach and nobody.
- 43:22Speaker 2: I don't think kait Kowski's in the NFL, no kidding, yep, yeah,
- 43:28Speaker 2: yeah he is. I think he is in. I think
- 43:33Speaker 2: he's at Arizona, allrights, just some some random one. Well,
- 43:37Speaker 2: I mean, look at the defensive coordinator Simmons at SMU
- 43:41Speaker 2: went to be a linebacker the Cowboys and that guy
- 43:45Speaker 2: was wicked good too. But Pete Kayitekowski, uh, excellent, excellent
- 43:54Speaker 2: defensive coordinator did it? I mean he posted top five
- 43:58Speaker 2: scoring efficiency defense is at Boise, at Washington and at Texas.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I'd love to know how many guys have done it
- 44:05Speaker 2: three different places.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Will must Shaff has it
