- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. The haters were saying that the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Chiefs would never make the playoffs. If you knew in
- 0:17Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, we're gonna have the best offense in
- 0:20Speaker 1: the National Football League. Let me hear you saying, Oh, Nana, Nana,
- 0:31Speaker 1: that's a going right there. I like that one right now.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It made me feel like, Oh, Nana, Nana. How about
- 0:41Speaker 1: those celebrating masterpiece catalog Union station at Kansas City. Welcome
- 0:56Speaker 1: to the the NFL Now, Patrick Claybon, Brian Baldinger, the Kelsey
- 1:00Speaker 1: brothers know how to put on performance. Okay. They give
- 1:02Speaker 1: him a microphone, give him a stage. They know what
- 1:04Speaker 1: to do. I would say that the off season officially
- 1:07Speaker 1: begins once the parade is over. By the way, it's
- 1:09Speaker 1: the parade over. They're still going. There are some people
- 1:11Speaker 1: still celebrating trevi Us, maybe one of us. But we
- 1:14Speaker 1: have officially moved to We've got one new coach and
- 1:18Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon that we're set to hear from this hour
- 1:20Speaker 1: here on NFL Now. And speaking of Jonathan again, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: let's get a look at this introductory news conference coming
- 1:27Speaker 1: in Arizona, just days after his kid team came up
- 1:31Speaker 1: just short in Super Bowl fifty seven. Areas with the
- 1:33Speaker 1: owner Michael Bidwell as well as the new general manager
- 1:38Speaker 1: of the Arizona Cardinals, introduced today, described the hiring experience
- 1:43Speaker 1: and highlighted the fact of what got him here to
- 1:46Speaker 1: this job and why he chose Arizona. We're gonna be
- 1:50Speaker 1: very adaptable. This is I'm talking to Arizona Cardinals. This
- 1:52Speaker 1: is what our team is gonna be. We're gonna be adaptable,
- 1:56Speaker 1: We're gonna be violent, we're gonna be explosive, and we're
- 2:00Speaker 1: gonna be smart, and all three phases go into that,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and we will maximize the talents of the players that
- 2:08Speaker 1: we have, and that's how we're gonna win games. I
- 2:11Speaker 1: famously set a line back in when I first took
- 2:14Speaker 1: over as a defensive coordinator of Philly that I don't
- 2:16Speaker 1: have a scheme, and people were very uncomfortable with that,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and I was not because I don't believe in a scheme.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I believe in putting the players that we have in
- 2:25Speaker 1: positions to be successful. So we're gonna look different week
- 2:29Speaker 1: to week predicated on who we have playing and who
- 2:32Speaker 1: we are playing. Uh, the last four or five days
- 2:35Speaker 1: have been very normal for me. You know, you gotta
- 2:39Speaker 1: adapt as things come at your at your door, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: they've been exciting. Um. Obviously I have a lot of
- 2:48Speaker 1: energy and emotion that went into the game and then
- 2:52Speaker 1: losing that game, and then uh, stay in the night
- 2:55Speaker 1: here and not knowing I was going to stay the
- 2:56Speaker 1: night and interview for a head coaching job. But you
- 3:00Speaker 1: take everything in stride and you do the best that
- 3:02Speaker 1: you can. And uh, I'll say that it was a
- 3:05Speaker 1: fun four d eight hours. I'll say that because I
- 3:08Speaker 1: enjoyed myself. And so Jonathan Gannon there again, we'll hear
- 3:12Speaker 1: from him coming up here on the NFL now, also
- 3:15Speaker 1: a Super Bowl coach. This guy on the winning side,
- 3:17Speaker 1: Eric b Enemy visiting the Washington Commanders today with regards
- 3:21Speaker 1: to their offensive coordinator position. This again after scoring on
- 3:25Speaker 1: every possession and the second half against the Philadelphia Eagles
- 3:28Speaker 1: to win yet another Super Bowl championship with the Kansas
- 3:31Speaker 1: City Chiefs. Were more on Eric the Enemy's job prospect
- 3:35Speaker 1: for Britlin, Judy Batista and Mike gar A Folo. Good
- 3:37Speaker 1: afternoon to you, guys. Michael. Let's start with you. What
- 3:39Speaker 1: can you tell us about this visit in a would
- 3:42Speaker 1: be a lateral move for Errick by well, sort of
- 3:46Speaker 1: a lateral move. And I understand what you're saying, Patrick,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but Uh, I think Andy Reid made it clear that
- 3:51Speaker 1: he would love to see Eric B. Enemy become a
- 3:53Speaker 1: head coach or run his own show. Well, if he
- 3:56Speaker 1: goes as an offensive coordinator to Washington, right and there's
- 3:59Speaker 1: no Andy Reid over his shoulder, I think it's pretty
- 4:02Speaker 1: clear at that point. If he performed as well as
- 4:05Speaker 1: he has as an offensive coordinator the last couple of years,
- 4:08Speaker 1: then look, this is a guy that absolutely has the
- 4:11Speaker 1: credentials to take the next step. Right. I think that
- 4:13Speaker 1: that's part of what's going on here with Eric B Enemy.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And Ron Rivera certainly thinks highly of the enemy. Uh,
- 4:19Speaker 1: will give him all the opportunity in the world if
- 4:22Speaker 1: he is the higher for the Washington commanders to run
- 4:25Speaker 1: that side of the ball completely, uh and make his
- 4:28Speaker 1: case to say, hey, look, I know folks have tried
- 4:31Speaker 1: to make it clear the last couple of years, and
- 4:33Speaker 1: Eric the Enemy has been calling the plays, and Andy
- 4:35Speaker 1: Reid has even said that, and he's certainly a big
- 4:38Speaker 1: part of the game planning and everything right. It's it's
- 4:41Speaker 1: Eric the Enemy's offense as much as it's Andy Reid's offensible.
- 4:43Speaker 1: There's gonna be no question if he winds up being
- 4:45Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator of the Commanders and is successful in
- 4:49Speaker 1: that role. So wish you'll see if the Commanders and
- 4:51Speaker 1: Bien Me close it out duty well. Be Enemy has
- 4:55Speaker 1: really become the face of the league's diversity issues on
- 4:58Speaker 1: head coaching hires, and this was a very disappointing cycle.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Five jobs were open, only one went to a each
- 5:05Speaker 1: of color. That'sdamika Ryan's who went to Houston, and he
- 5:07Speaker 1: replaced a coach of color, so no ground gained there.
- 5:12Speaker 1: There is a feeling around the league that perhaps the
- 5:14Speaker 1: Enemy needs to get out from behind Andy Reid's shadow
- 5:19Speaker 1: in Kansas City and maybe that would enhance his resume. Um.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It has been a number of years now that Eric
- 5:24Speaker 1: the Enemy has been what everybody thought was in line
- 5:27Speaker 1: to get a head coaching job really stark this year
- 5:30Speaker 1: he was the offensive coordinator of the team that won
- 5:32Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, and both coordinators on the team that
- 5:35Speaker 1: lost the Super Bowl got head jobs and the Enemy
- 5:38Speaker 1: did not. The concern about Washington is there's quite a
- 5:42Speaker 1: bit of instability there. As you guys know, they do
- 5:44Speaker 1: not have an established quarterback and there could be an
- 5:46Speaker 1: ownership change in the next few months, and obviously that
- 5:50Speaker 1: would put everybody on the hot seat. So possibly not
- 5:53Speaker 1: the best environment to prove your metal if you're Eric
- 5:56Speaker 1: the Enemy, but certainly there is a sense that something
- 5:59Speaker 1: has to change to get the Enemy in line for
- 6:02Speaker 1: a head coaching job. I think this move, if it
- 6:05Speaker 1: happens with Ron Rivera, is a great move for Eric,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and I think the shadow that Andy cass is a
- 6:12Speaker 1: huge shadow. He constantly gives Eric the Enemy credit. He
- 6:15Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes constantly gives him credit. But if he was
- 6:18Speaker 1: to move to Washington where they're looking for that replacement
- 6:22Speaker 1: of Scott Turner with a ton of young talent, although
- 6:25Speaker 1: you know the quarterback that they say right now is
- 6:28Speaker 1: the starter to go into the off season and Sam How,
- 6:31Speaker 1: it's a great opportunity for Eric b enemy to to
- 6:33Speaker 1: really join forces right here with Sam How start to
- 6:37Speaker 1: start to uh install an offense right now to play
- 6:41Speaker 1: to his strengths. I think this can be in a
- 6:43Speaker 1: very exciting time. I think Ron Rivera gives this organization
- 6:47Speaker 1: some stability just from a leadership standpoint that they desperately need.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They've got a very good defense on that side of
- 6:53Speaker 1: the ball. Uh And so I think this is a
- 6:55Speaker 1: good opportunity for Eric, and I think if it's offered,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't think there's any chance that he won't take
- 6:59Speaker 1: this this position. It's been tough. Honestly. We went through
- 7:03Speaker 1: in the news room to try to find the total
- 7:05Speaker 1: number of jobs that Eric the Enemy has interviewed for
- 7:08Speaker 1: in these past five years, and it's a difficult undertake
- 7:12Speaker 1: because it's been so many. And we'll see if this
- 7:14Speaker 1: next step, which feels like something that you know he
- 7:17Speaker 1: has to do to get there, is a successful one
- 7:20Speaker 1: in his journey to be a head coach. But we
- 7:22Speaker 1: do have a a head coach that had his news
- 7:24Speaker 1: conference today is introductory news conference in Arizona from the Valley.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That's Jonathan Gannon and Michael Bitlow, his owner, the owner
- 7:34Speaker 1: of the Arizona Cardal speaking about the opportunity for coach
- 7:37Speaker 1: Gannon as well as Kyler Murray. I think he came
- 7:41Speaker 1: in with a vision and plan that the division aligned
- 7:43Speaker 1: with where we want to be about getting back to
- 7:46Speaker 1: the top of the NFC West and competing in January
- 7:48Speaker 1: and competing to get to the super Bowl and win it.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So that's number one with a vision. His plan he outlined,
- 7:55Speaker 1: some of which he'll get in today, some of which
- 7:57Speaker 1: we're not going to get into, but I'm excited about it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It's the view that he had of our elite quarterback
- 8:03Speaker 1: and getting him back to being the playmaker that he
- 8:05Speaker 1: is and making sure we build around him and put
- 8:07Speaker 1: our players in positions, especially Kyler is our quarterback to
- 8:12Speaker 1: really get after it. And I was excited about what
- 8:14Speaker 1: his plan is in how he outlined it and joining
- 8:19Speaker 1: us now. The new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals,
- 8:21Speaker 1: Jonathan and And fresh off of his introductory news conference,
- 8:24Speaker 1: Thanks for spending time with this coach, because I know
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's a lot going on the combines coming up in
- 8:28Speaker 1: twenty eight days. I mean, on the excuse me, how
- 8:31Speaker 1: do you go about filling a staff? Yeah, we're we're
- 8:35Speaker 1: at it right now, Brian Baldi. You know. So that's
- 8:40Speaker 1: the next four or eight hours. I'm gonna talk to
- 8:42Speaker 1: the guys that are here and then get into some
- 8:46Speaker 1: some interviews that need to take place, some guys that
- 8:48Speaker 1: I want to talk to, and ultimately I want guys
- 8:51Speaker 1: that have high capacity, high character and they want to
- 8:54Speaker 1: be Cardinals. So, uh, we'll build this thing out as
- 8:57Speaker 1: we get going. But the other thing with that is
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to rush it just because of the timeline.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm more interested in finding the right people in the
- 9:05Speaker 1: right fit and just filling out of staff. So that's
- 9:08Speaker 1: what we'll do, Jonathan, I don't I don't think people
- 9:11Speaker 1: remember just two years ago when you and Nick and
- 9:14Speaker 1: Shane came on board in Philadelphia. That was a four
- 9:16Speaker 1: and eleven one team, a young quarterback in in Jalen
- 9:20Speaker 1: Hurts that was sort of unproven. It started a couple
- 9:23Speaker 1: of games at the end of the season the year before,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and this thing turned around pretty quickly. You got the
- 9:27Speaker 1: playoffs in the first year, you installed the brand new
- 9:30Speaker 1: offense defense. What can you take from those two years
- 9:33Speaker 1: in Philadelphia to help in this turnaround process with the
- 9:37Speaker 1: Arizona Cardins. Yeah, I mean, you know, you know what
- 9:41Speaker 1: I think about coach Sirianni. He laid out a very
- 9:44Speaker 1: specific vision of how to improve our players on a
- 9:47Speaker 1: day to day basis. And when you do that and
- 9:51Speaker 1: you do see the results of you know, we're process oriented,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but every day was, Hey, let's just get a little
- 9:58Speaker 1: bit better with what we're doing coaches, players, the strength, staff,
- 10:03Speaker 1: the psychological, the arenament, the player development plan. And when
- 10:07Speaker 1: you do that, then you'll you'll start improving everybody, you'll
- 10:10Speaker 1: start winning some games. So you know, it was a
- 10:12Speaker 1: very quick jump, you know, Nick, I don't know how
- 10:15Speaker 1: many guys ever went from there, you know, second year
- 10:17Speaker 1: to a Super Bowl. I think McVeigh was one of them.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But you know, he did an excellent job, and he
- 10:22Speaker 1: really gave me the brew plant of how to get
- 10:24Speaker 1: that done. But a lot of work to be done.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And I'm really not worried about that. You know, I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: not worried about getting back to the playoffs, are making
- 10:32Speaker 1: the super Bowl. I'm just worried about getting the staff
- 10:34Speaker 1: together and improving our players and coach. You mentioned a
- 10:37Speaker 1: few times in your introductory news conference of growth mindset,
- 10:40Speaker 1: and I wonder how that applies for you and your
- 10:43Speaker 1: concept of that when everybody in this league is working
- 10:46Speaker 1: so hard to be where they are. Yeah, I think,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you know, you you got to be curious and you
- 10:52Speaker 1: have to have an open mind so you can learn
- 10:55Speaker 1: if if you think that you know the best way
- 10:58Speaker 1: or you're convicted on a certain methodology or a certain
- 11:02Speaker 1: uh scheme, I think you're gonna all to really get
- 11:05Speaker 1: passed by. And um, you know, I've always been around
- 11:08Speaker 1: people that have challenged you challenged me to you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: keep growing and keep learning. Uh j G. You know
- 11:16Speaker 1: You've got a lot of success coaching the dB saying
- 11:19Speaker 1: it like this and doing it like this, but this
- 11:21Speaker 1: might be a better way. And I was very open
- 11:23Speaker 1: to that. And um, you know, every day I try
- 11:26Speaker 1: to learn something new, and that's about myself, about the coaches,
- 11:30Speaker 1: about the players, and when the code, when the players
- 11:33Speaker 1: have a growth mindset to as long as they understand
- 11:36Speaker 1: the why behind why you're doing things, they'll understand that, hey,
- 11:40Speaker 1: this can improve my game and I can become a
- 11:42Speaker 1: better player. And that's what you're ultimately trying to do
- 11:45Speaker 1: as a coach, is improve the players and make them
- 11:47Speaker 1: hit their ceiling. One of the things I liked what
- 11:50Speaker 1: you did in Philadelphia is you you played this game
- 11:52Speaker 1: if it's a game effort roulette, where you really allow
- 11:56Speaker 1: the players to take ownership with the defense by having
- 12:00Speaker 1: a guy stand up in front of the room and
- 12:02Speaker 1: really evaluate everybody's effort on a given play, and I
- 12:05Speaker 1: feel like when players talk in front of the room
- 12:08Speaker 1: about the other players and can not point fingers, but
- 12:11Speaker 1: saying this is how it has to get done, this
- 12:13Speaker 1: is the way it has to look, this is the
- 12:15Speaker 1: way we have to practice. I like that approach. Jonathan.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Can you explain just a little bit about your philosophy
- 12:21Speaker 1: with that. Yeah, so we you know, we had a
- 12:25Speaker 1: standard of how we wanted to play defense in Philly,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and that was obviously outlined to the guys, and we
- 12:32Speaker 1: showed him examples. This is what's acceptable, this is not
- 12:35Speaker 1: what's acceptable, and there's a grading scale and an outline
- 12:39Speaker 1: to that. But ultimately it's not the players memorizing that
- 12:43Speaker 1: or regurgitating that. It's them understanding that and if they
- 12:47Speaker 1: understand it, because hey, guys like this is if we're
- 12:50Speaker 1: about winning, this impacts winning football games, and if we
- 12:54Speaker 1: say it here we want to win football games, this
- 12:57Speaker 1: is a huge piece to that. So, um, that was
- 12:59Speaker 1: a tool that we used to a little bit of
- 13:01Speaker 1: fun in there, but some major, major accountability. And there
- 13:05Speaker 1: are some people that were uncomfortable because you didn't they
- 13:08Speaker 1: didn't know what play was getting was getting picked. But
- 13:11Speaker 1: some of the guys that did that. Fletcher Cox was
- 13:14Speaker 1: fantastic and I think you know Fletch the play that
- 13:16Speaker 1: I picked, he actually had a loaf and he had
- 13:19Speaker 1: to get up there and say, you know what, nine
- 13:21Speaker 1: one loaf and we're not attacking the person, We're just
- 13:25Speaker 1: attacking the action. We're trying to get better and improve
- 13:28Speaker 1: and um, that was always a cool thing. Our guys
- 13:30Speaker 1: enjoyed it and it's uh, it helped our defense. Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: speaking of helping that defense, we look at some of
- 13:37Speaker 1: the stats here, coach. I don't know if you could
- 13:39Speaker 1: see it, but they were pretty good, especially that number
- 13:41Speaker 1: seventy sex first place, which is fifteen more sex than
- 13:45Speaker 1: the second place team had in two in terms of
- 13:49Speaker 1: duplicating that success. No, that's the goal. But looking over
- 13:52Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball, you said that
- 13:54Speaker 1: you have a very specific vision for the type of
- 13:56Speaker 1: offense that you're going to run. Could you give us
- 13:59Speaker 1: some some clarity on what that vision is. Yeah, you know,
- 14:03Speaker 1: we want to we want to be explosive an offense.
- 14:06Speaker 1: We want to protect the football, and we want to
- 14:08Speaker 1: maximize situations. And you know everything that we do is
- 14:11Speaker 1: going to be built the offense will be built around Um.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Kyler's skill set, and he has a very unique skill set,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and so we're going to use that because he can
- 14:21Speaker 1: put the defense in conflict by what he can do
- 14:24Speaker 1: to them, either running or throwing. Um. So that's how
- 14:27Speaker 1: we're gonna build the offense. But ultimately, it's just not
- 14:30Speaker 1: the quarterback position. It's everybody. There's eleven guys out there.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You know, we've got to make sure that the old
- 14:35Speaker 1: line is playing good football. We got playmakers for him
- 14:38Speaker 1: to get the ball to. We want to be able
- 14:40Speaker 1: to throw it down the field over people's heads, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: we've gotta be able to run it down people's throats.
- 14:44Speaker 1: So um, that's what you need to do. That's a
- 14:46Speaker 1: good pro style offense. But we're definitely gonna have elements
- 14:49Speaker 1: to where, you know, we let Kyler do his thing,
- 14:52Speaker 1: uh and put the defense in major conflict. I know
- 14:56Speaker 1: you had to defend Kyler this year against the Arizona Cardinals, Jonathan,
- 14:59Speaker 1: but you did have a chance to watch Jalen Herbs
- 15:02Speaker 1: day and day out over the last two years. And
- 15:05Speaker 1: as much as anybody at that position that we have seen,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I know Jayen pretty good. We we know a kind
- 15:11Speaker 1: of guy in the character that he has. What what
- 15:14Speaker 1: can you take from watching jail and day and day
- 15:17Speaker 1: out defending him in practice every day Jonathan and the
- 15:19Speaker 1: way he went about his business to Kyle to see
- 15:23Speaker 1: if Kyler can make similar type jumps. We see him
- 15:26Speaker 1: have success in this league, but I think we all
- 15:27Speaker 1: feel like there's another level for him to go. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: Kyler will understand that very clearly. You know, the quarterback
- 15:35Speaker 1: is the closest thing you have on the field to
- 15:37Speaker 1: a coach, and besides between Nick and Shane and Brian Johnson,
- 15:43Speaker 1: Jalen understood that. So he I think they did a
- 15:47Speaker 1: really good job with him of making Jalen understand the
- 15:50Speaker 1: why and how to play fast and efficient and problem
- 15:55Speaker 1: solving on his feet. You know, we we don't. We
- 15:57Speaker 1: didn't script a lot of practices. Guys like everyone has
- 16:00Speaker 1: carded periods and scripted things where people know what's coming.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Our head coach did not do that, and it was
- 16:07Speaker 1: because of the quarterback. He says, well, people, we don't
- 16:10Speaker 1: know how people are gonna play us, So you know
- 16:11Speaker 1: what we're gonna do to Jalen and practice, We're gonna
- 16:13Speaker 1: give him all kinds of on Scott looks he has
- 16:15Speaker 1: no idea what's going on, and he's got to be
- 16:17Speaker 1: able to function, and that's how they really improved his game.
- 16:20Speaker 1: And I look forward to doing that with our guy.
- 16:22Speaker 1: But um, you know, and and just my viewpoint of
- 16:26Speaker 1: how you have to defend him, what people are going
- 16:28Speaker 1: to try to do to defend him the right way.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He'll have a very specific vision of how teams are
- 16:33Speaker 1: going to try to play him and what we can
- 16:35Speaker 1: do to counterbalance that. Coach, how are you approaching because
- 16:39Speaker 1: we're not sure when Kyler will be available he still
- 16:42Speaker 1: in the process of recovering from that knee. How do
- 16:45Speaker 1: you approach roster construction when there is that question mark
- 16:48Speaker 1: on when he might be back. Yeah, we definitely have
- 16:51Speaker 1: to have a couple of trigger guys ready to go
- 16:53Speaker 1: until he gets ready to play, because I'm not gonna
- 16:55Speaker 1: rush it. We always do the best thing for our players.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Health always here, um, and that that will be new.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But you know, when he's ready to get back out
- 17:04Speaker 1: there and play, he'll play. But you know, we'll look
- 17:06Speaker 1: at all the different avenues that we have, um, from
- 17:09Speaker 1: the personnel standpoint, to try to build out the roster,
- 17:13Speaker 1: not just the quarterback position, to try to build out
- 17:15Speaker 1: the roster the best we can to put a competitive
- 17:18Speaker 1: team on the field and win football games. Um. And
- 17:20Speaker 1: then when he's ready to come back, he'll be ready
- 17:23Speaker 1: to go. Jonathan, you mentioned that you had unscripted practices, Um,
- 17:27Speaker 1: challenging jail in the offense. Uh. They have a new
- 17:30Speaker 1: coach in Indianapolis. Good buddy here, Shane Styke. And for
- 17:33Speaker 1: fans of the Colts that want to know what they're
- 17:36Speaker 1: getting in change Styke, And what can you say about
- 17:38Speaker 1: their new head coach? Oh Man, he's a straight baller.
- 17:43Speaker 1: He is a straight baller. He just you know, how
- 17:46Speaker 1: he sees the game, his vision of how to play offense,
- 17:49Speaker 1: how to run a team. Uh. You know, obviously, I'm
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'm very close with Shane and we had a lot
- 17:56Speaker 1: of good conversations to the last two years of offense defense.
- 18:00Speaker 1: What's hard on the offense? What's hard on the defense? Hey,
- 18:03Speaker 1: this is what I'm gonna do to you when you
- 18:05Speaker 1: get in this spacing. Hey, this is what I'm gonna
- 18:07Speaker 1: do to you on third down when you show me
- 18:09Speaker 1: this look. So I've learned a lot from Shane. I
- 18:11Speaker 1: value our friendship, our relationship, but that guy knows how
- 18:14Speaker 1: to coach the quarterback, and he knows how to generate points.
- 18:18Speaker 1: That's what I know about him. So that's what he'll do.
- 18:21Speaker 1: And I'm rooting for him unless we play him and
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm going to stop him. Well, the the schedule doesn't
- 18:26Speaker 1: line up that way, but we know that you guys
- 18:28Speaker 1: will be able to have some conversations as you've got
- 18:31Speaker 1: a lot of work ahead and as does he and
- 18:33Speaker 1: coach will let you get to that work. But thanks
- 18:35Speaker 1: for spending time with us. I appreciate Thank you, guys,
- 18:37Speaker 1: big fans. Jonathan take here, buddy, appreciate your coach coming up.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Coach Cannon says, not often you inherit the franchise quarterback. Well,
- 18:45Speaker 1: some folks are gonna try to draft some franchise quarterbacks.
- 18:48Speaker 1: How does Bucky Brooks have class rank? We'll find out
- 18:52Speaker 1: next on NFL new Win Win Win Win back on
- 19:03Speaker 1: NFL Now. Cej A. Stroud has has won the title
- 19:07Speaker 1: at least as far as one point out of the
- 19:09Speaker 1: top five quarterback prospects according to Buckey Brooks, which you
- 19:13Speaker 1: could go to NFL dot com, slash Brooks and bred
- 19:16Speaker 1: right now. Set J. Stroud has that number one spot
- 19:20Speaker 1: in Buckey's top five prospects at the quarterback position. Here
- 19:24Speaker 1: are the remainder It's Higsman Trophy winner Bryce Young, Hendon
- 19:28Speaker 1: Hooker coming back from that knee injury, World Levis, and
- 19:30Speaker 1: Tanner McKee of Stanford. So we have a Stanford representative.
- 19:35Speaker 1: We have Buckey's top five back now in the NFL.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Now with Brian Baldinger on Batrick Clay Bond, let's talk
- 19:40Speaker 1: about the top ranked quarterback prospects. According to Bucky Brooks,
- 19:43Speaker 1: c J. Strould takes the spot over Bryce Young. Do
- 19:46Speaker 1: you think that's heightweight, speed related both? Yeah, I think so. Uh,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, I mean, look at brace Young is right there,
- 19:51Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy winner, all that. Um, we're just beginning the
- 19:54Speaker 1: process right now, Patrick Iman, These these lists that Bucky
- 19:58Speaker 1: put out, that Daniel Jeremiah put out, you know, our guys,
- 20:01Speaker 1: I mean it may change, you know, over the course
- 20:03Speaker 1: of the next two months, but you know, it's are
- 20:05Speaker 1: not to watch c J against Georgia in that playoff
- 20:08Speaker 1: game and look at what he was able to do
- 20:10Speaker 1: because you know, the movement that he showed, the ability
- 20:13Speaker 1: to extend plays, the accuracy, I mean, it was a
- 20:16Speaker 1: strong performance. Um, you know, and his best receiver wasn't
- 20:20Speaker 1: out there on the field, although obviously Marvin Harrison racing
- 20:24Speaker 1: pretty special. But like you know, it's it's hard to
- 20:26Speaker 1: kind of pick him apart at this point with the
- 20:29Speaker 1: way that he throws the ball, the accuracy, the touch
- 20:31Speaker 1: right here that he has on the ball, and so, uh,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you know, look, Bryce Young is probably a little more polished,
- 20:38Speaker 1: He's a little more probably accurate with the ball. Uh.
- 20:42Speaker 1: There's hard hardly anything not to like except for the frame,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know, And so Cayler Burry had to go through
- 20:48Speaker 1: this process not that long ago. Patrick, you know, how
- 20:51Speaker 1: tall is he gonna be? What's he gonna weigh? Is
- 20:53Speaker 1: he gonna be a hundred ninety pounds? Is he a
- 20:54Speaker 1: hundred and eighty two? Like all those it's gonna get
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know, we're really gonna pick at a park here, Um,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know. So that's that's what he has to deal with,
- 21:02Speaker 1: because we obviously know the NFL game, you're gonna get
- 21:05Speaker 1: hit and can you keep getting up from the hits?
- 21:07Speaker 1: And we've seen plenty of guys that can and a
- 21:09Speaker 1: lot of guys they can, and so those are some
- 21:11Speaker 1: of the issues. But you know, you look on the
- 21:13Speaker 1: other side there, Hendon Hooker we were just talking about
- 21:16Speaker 1: before the show. I mean, he's got everything that you want,
- 21:19Speaker 1: except that he's coming back from an a c L
- 21:22Speaker 1: all right, that he hurt November this year. He said
- 21:24Speaker 1: he'll be ready in June, you know, for all the
- 21:27Speaker 1: workouts and everything like that. Uh. And he's twenty five
- 21:30Speaker 1: years old, and so you think, okay, is that a
- 21:32Speaker 1: big deal? Well, I mean, Jalen Hurts is twenty four
- 21:36Speaker 1: and he has his team in the Super Bowl, and
- 21:37Speaker 1: we kind of know what Jalen is right now. We
- 21:41Speaker 1: won't know that about Hendry. So that's gonna knock him
- 21:43Speaker 1: down a little bit. Will Levis, you know Kentucky. Obviously,
- 21:46Speaker 1: he's got tremendous size. He played a lot red shirt senior,
- 21:50Speaker 1: very mature, I had a lot of big games. But
- 21:53Speaker 1: maybe the the guy that is most intriguing to me
- 21:55Speaker 1: is Anthony Richardson at Florida just because of his size,
- 21:58Speaker 1: athletic a building. You watch him throw a football, I
- 22:00Speaker 1: mean sixty yards, it's just nothing. It's just a flick um.
- 22:04Speaker 1: You know, There's so much there, but it's pretty raw,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and so who wants to work with them? And we
- 22:08Speaker 1: were talking about like Jalen Hurts three years ago. Patrick,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I mean, nobody thought that he could play at this level.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But it's inside of him. It's in his d n A,
- 22:18Speaker 1: it's in his maturity, it's who he wants to be.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It's helps, he's son of a coach, all this stuff.
- 22:23Speaker 1: But Jalen Hurts wanted to be the best quarterback in
- 22:25Speaker 1: the NFL, and so are any of these guys. Is driven.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts has been and that's the that's the process.
- 22:31Speaker 1: As you mentioned, it's Bucky's one point. Oh, and we're
- 22:33Speaker 1: gonna get to see and start meet these guys. And
- 22:36Speaker 1: I think once some coaches get in physical relations right,
- 22:40Speaker 1: they're able to be involved in Anthony Richards and learned
- 22:43Speaker 1: a lot. You'll see a lot and see what he
- 22:46Speaker 1: can do, especially with the football from his hands. Let's
- 22:48Speaker 1: go to some of these tight ends speaking of physicality. Uh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: Bucky's got Michael Mayer, Dalton Kinkaid, Darnell Washington, a couple
- 22:55Speaker 1: of great tight ends on the Georgia roster as well
- 22:59Speaker 1: as last year Luke Musgrave and Tucker Crap. Let's focus
- 23:02Speaker 1: in on Darnell Washington. Baldi, what do you see, Well,
- 23:06Speaker 1: he's an oak tree. He's an absolute oak tree. I
- 23:09Speaker 1: mean just his size. You know, he's very gifted. You
- 23:12Speaker 1: can flex him out, you can run routes with them,
- 23:14Speaker 1: but you can put him in line along with Michael Mayer.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean, both these guys are inline blockers. We call
- 23:19Speaker 1: those are why a true wy. There's Mayor right there,
- 23:21Speaker 1: eighty seven Notre Dame. You put these guys in and
- 23:24Speaker 1: you can you can run strong side runs with those guys,
- 23:28Speaker 1: sealing the line of scrimmage. So I think that's an
- 23:30Speaker 1: advantage right now between Mayor Washington. Uh. Mayor can get downfield.
- 23:35Speaker 1: All these guys can run. Um and so I think
- 23:38Speaker 1: there's a list. I think it's a very strong tight
- 23:40Speaker 1: end group. I think we're gonna see quite a few
- 23:42Speaker 1: guys go early in this draft, um, you know, and
- 23:45Speaker 1: and guys that can step in and play right away
- 23:48Speaker 1: and so uh and then you could always not on
- 23:51Speaker 1: Buckey's list right now, but you can always go to
- 23:53Speaker 1: Iowa and find you know, a tight end. Sam Laporta
- 23:55Speaker 1: has been a very good player for Iowa over the
- 23:58Speaker 1: last few years. You know, we have seen you know,
- 24:00Speaker 1: whether it's Kittle or Kelsey. They were taken later in
- 24:02Speaker 1: the draft, but look where they are right now. It's
- 24:05Speaker 1: it's so much goes into evaluating the prospects and figuring
- 24:09Speaker 1: out how to layer out your draft boarder. A big
- 24:11Speaker 1: step in that is coming up on February the two
- 24:16Speaker 1: thousand and twenty three NFL Scouting Combine again. If you
- 24:20Speaker 1: want to free bucks one point oh position rankings, go
- 24:23Speaker 1: to NFL dot com slash Brooks to read that. But
- 24:26Speaker 1: twelve days from the kickoff of Scouting Combine Night team
- 24:31Speaker 1: prospects invited to attend this year's event, tune in right
- 24:34Speaker 1: here on NFL Network to see the future stars of
- 24:37Speaker 1: tomorrow on February. What do they want to do? They
- 24:40Speaker 1: want to get to this point when the hoisted beverage
- 24:43Speaker 1: doesn't happen. A parade like Patrick Mahomes Another look at
- 24:46Speaker 1: the Chiefs and what they did to hoisted Lombardi coming
- 24:49Speaker 1: up next on NFL not They Can Stop Me. The
- 24:58Speaker 1: Rams celebrating Black History Month with the debut of a
- 25:01Speaker 1: powerful short film, Kingfish, The Story of Kenny Way Shington,
- 25:05Speaker 1: the first black player to be signed by an NFL
- 25:08Speaker 1: team in the modern era. Kingfish, the Story of Kenny
- 25:11Speaker 1: Washington is live on RAMS digital channels including Rams dot Com,
- 25:17Speaker 1: Slash Kingfish Go watch it now, joining us Now on
- 25:21Speaker 1: NFL Now. It is Jonathan Franklin, Bram's executive apart of
- 25:25Speaker 1: the team that produced this absolutely splendid short film, and
- 25:28Speaker 1: it gives us a chance to think back to an
- 25:30Speaker 1: NFL legend, the Jonathan we don't talk about enough. Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's absolutely been a story that's been undertowed and at
- 25:38Speaker 1: the RAMS, we have been working on this for years
- 25:41Speaker 1: and we're excited to give Kenny his flowers, right, and
- 25:44Speaker 1: we've been very intentional to tell the story. We're excited
- 25:46Speaker 1: about the premiere last night and to continue it beyond
- 25:49Speaker 1: that moment as well. And Jonathan, I think for you personally,
- 25:52Speaker 1: right as as the u c l A all time
- 25:54Speaker 1: leading Russia a part of l A sports history, for you,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you get a chance to do this when a lot
- 25:59Speaker 1: of this current generation that's coming up might not necessarily
- 26:03Speaker 1: be aware of Kenny's story. Yeah, being from Los Angeles
- 26:06Speaker 1: going to us A playing running back, there were so
- 26:08Speaker 1: many parallels between Kenny and I, and I was excited
- 26:12Speaker 1: and learning about the story of Kenny Washington. There's so
- 26:14Speaker 1: much hope of who he is, and he's a hero
- 26:17Speaker 1: that we can all look to. Giving all the things
- 26:19Speaker 1: and the traits that he's embodied as a leader, He's
- 26:22Speaker 1: paved the way for myself and so many other individuals
- 26:25Speaker 1: on the field, but off the field as well. And
- 26:27Speaker 1: when we think about from nineteen twenty to nineteen that
- 26:31Speaker 1: period where that you know that the headlines called it
- 26:33Speaker 1: the gentleman's agreement among ownership to exclude black players from
- 26:38Speaker 1: from this opportunity. What can the league do to not
- 26:41Speaker 1: necessarily celebrate that, but to memorialize the fact that we
- 26:44Speaker 1: have this period because we have legends like Jackie Robinson
- 26:47Speaker 1: who integrated baseball that was the first, but it feels
- 26:51Speaker 1: like the people who reintegrated football kind of get left
- 26:54Speaker 1: out of bit. You know, this moment is the beginning
- 26:57Speaker 1: of something different and and the the opportunity that we
- 27:00Speaker 1: have to even talk about Kenny Washington today, right to
- 27:03Speaker 1: have that premiere last night. We all have to do
- 27:06Speaker 1: our part to celebrate. It was seventy six years now
- 27:09Speaker 1: since the signing the nine six, and what an incredible moment,
- 27:13Speaker 1: and that Kenny Washington legacy still lives on what he
- 27:16Speaker 1: was able to do with himself with what he strode,
- 27:19Speaker 1: what Shaq Harris, like so many people amongst the RAMS
- 27:22Speaker 1: organization has been able to break barriers because of Kenny Washington.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And this is an exciting moment. And I recall when
- 27:28Speaker 1: when I heard about Kenny Washington, honestly was when I
- 27:31Speaker 1: got to the RAMS UH and then I went out
- 27:33Speaker 1: to the Kenny Washington Memorial game and was able to
- 27:36Speaker 1: see so many communities come together, you know, seeing that
- 27:39Speaker 1: Kenny Washington was a unifier the barriers that he had
- 27:42Speaker 1: to overcome, not just in the NFL. He was an
- 27:44Speaker 1: l A p D officer, He was a Hollywood actor,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and Kenny knew he was always enough regardless of the environment,
- 27:50Speaker 1: the opposition that he facing. Kenny is an individual that
- 27:53Speaker 1: symbolizes so much for all of us that we can
- 27:56Speaker 1: connect with. And I think that's the powerful moment that
- 27:58Speaker 1: we all can share and tell in the platform that's
- 28:01Speaker 1: so powerful right now. There's so much that he had
- 28:03Speaker 1: to navigate. Of course, the decision has become a part
- 28:06Speaker 1: of a system. There was a problem for for a
- 28:08Speaker 1: lot of people after going through wars multiple surgeries as well,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and you got to work with his family throughout this documentary.
- 28:15Speaker 1: How was that? You know? Kisa Washington last night she's
- 28:18Speaker 1: a granddaughter of Kenny, and she mentioned she was humble, proud,
- 28:23Speaker 1: but very excited because this moment is going to inspire
- 28:26Speaker 1: so much change. We were able to have you've you've
- 28:29Speaker 1: come out and watched this and and the hope that
- 28:31Speaker 1: they can look forward to to know that they are
- 28:33Speaker 1: enough based off Kenny Washington a legacy again and that
- 28:36Speaker 1: Kenny signed seventies six years ago, right and today we're
- 28:40Speaker 1: still celebrating him. We're telling this story and it gives
- 28:43Speaker 1: so much hope for many people and looking at what
- 28:46Speaker 1: he meant and obviously the community as well, uh doing
- 28:49Speaker 1: its part to even give Kenny Washington the opportunity had
- 28:53Speaker 1: a chance to to watch the documentary, and it took
- 28:56Speaker 1: all of Los Angeles essentially, especially the Black residence of
- 28:59Speaker 1: Los Angeles, demanding that he'd be given an opportunity. Yeah,
- 29:03Speaker 1: it takes all of us right to to g to change,
- 29:05Speaker 1: to provide that hope and inspiration and to be able
- 29:08Speaker 1: to have the RAMS organization again for years, come together
- 29:12Speaker 1: and build this moment, to release this film and have
- 29:15Speaker 1: the premier and it's not going to stop there. Our
- 29:18Speaker 1: goal is finding ways to take this to schools. Two
- 29:20Speaker 1: different communities were hosting the event on February and partnership
- 29:24Speaker 1: with aver FI where we're inviting schools and within all
- 29:27Speaker 1: thirty two NFL club cities to come out and view that.
- 29:31Speaker 1: You know, we're looking to have over ten thousand students
- 29:33Speaker 1: watch the film of Kenny Washington and not just watch it,
- 29:36Speaker 1: but have a dialogue about the impact that Kenny had
- 29:39Speaker 1: then but still today. Incredible to look at the opportunity
- 29:43Speaker 1: that you have to reach out to the young folks
- 29:46Speaker 1: and also celebrate the history and remind them of it,
- 29:48Speaker 1: especially in a situation now where that history is being
- 29:52Speaker 1: denied and a lot of other places, and the RAMS
- 29:54Speaker 1: are doing their part to take a part of that job.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much for coming on. Thank thank you
- 29:58Speaker 1: this documentary. Go to the Rams dot com and get
- 30:01Speaker 1: a chance to experience this Kenny Washington documentary on the
