- 0:00If someone was to ask me what story, what bottom line script.
- 0:06Goes with my book.
- 0:08This story is it, it's the story of the little black dog and it has so much meaning to it.
- 0:15Hurt people hurt people.
- 0:17Bottom line.
- 0:18It happens in life, but also we are not victims of our circumstances.
- 0:24And on top of that, take responsibility for your attitude and your feelings in life and watch everything shift.
- 0:34You're listening to the stop, the mind screw podcast.
- 0:36I'm your host, Kathie Owen.
- 0:38I have been a certified fitness trainer and certified life coach since 2002.
- 0:44On this channel, we talk about fitness, having a growth mindset, healthy habits.
- 0:50Even some Reality Transurfing.
- 0:52And today we are talking about.
- 0:55A little story that goes along with my new book, the truth, bubbles up, let's get into the episode.
- 1:03Back when I was in junior high school, as an awkward 12 year old kid, I used to have to walk to school every day.
- 1:10And I lived in a privileged white middle-class neighborhood, which meant that these kids were all having a ride to school.
- 1:21And I walked along this busy street and yes, kids bullied me because I was walking and yeah, it was very awkward.
- 1:31But I had a little bright spot because every morning without fail, I had this little black dog meet me.
- 1:40And this dog would come out of nowhere, but he met me at the same corner every morning.
- 1:47And he greeted me with a wag of his telling a smile of his face and he walked with me for about two blocks and then he'd go home.
- 1:56And the next morning he'd be there.
- 1:57And the next morning he'd be there.
- 1:59Well one morning it was a dreary cloudy morning.
- 2:04And I'm walking and here he comes and he's greeting me and walking with me.
- 2:10And all of a sudden, he randomly decides to run out in the street.
- 2:16And it car hits him.
- 2:18My heart stops.
- 2:20I'm like, oh my God.
- 2:21What happened?
- 2:23And the car drives off.
- 2:25He runs over to the side of the road towards me and he's crying and I'm like reaching out to help him.
- 2:32He tries to bite me of all things.
- 2:35He tries to bite me.
- 2:36And I don't have enough life experience to know that when a dog gets hurt, it's going to bite you no matter how much it loves you.
- 2:45And so.
- 2:47I'm traumatized.
- 2:49Because this car hit this dog in front of me.
- 2:52And I had to just decide what to do.
- 2:55I couldn't help him.
- 2:56So I walked to school, I sat to myself, I'm going to call my mom.
- 3:00She'll know what to do.
- 3:03So I walked to school and go to the office.
- 3:06Now, mind you back in 1977, we did not have cell phones.
- 3:10So I had to go to the office and call my mom and I'm trembling and crying and tears.
- 3:16I call her on the phone and my Nana was in town and my mom really didn't understand what was going on.
- 3:23So, I don't know.
- 3:25It was weird.
- 3:26It was.
- 3:27Very traumatic.
- 3:29I don't know what happened, but that afternoon, my mom picked me up from school, my mom and my Nana, and we were driving back down the road and I'm peering over the side of the car, out my window to see if.
- 3:44The dog was there.
- 3:46I think I saw a little black body laying there on the side by the corner where he met me.
- 3:54But I am not a hundred percent sure.
- 3:58I like to think what happened to that dog was he was so traumatized that he went home and got fixed by his family and was never seen again because I never saw him again.
- 4:08Is that sad?
- 4:09Absolutely.
- 4:11And this story is in my book, the truth bubbles up for a reason.
- 4:17And it's at the very beginning of the book because my mom read the book.
- 4:24And she told me something.
- 4:28I was very worried that she was going to be hurt and she probably was because she told me," I could have done things different." But, you know what.
- 4:39We all could say that.
- 4:41The whole story itself, everybody in the story could have done something different.
- 4:48But the way I look at things is everything happens for a reason because that story right there.
- 4:55Taught me when I was only 12 years old that I was.
- 5:01In charge of the circumstances that happened in my life, whether they were good.
- 5:06Or bad.
- 5:07That dog getting hit by the car was horrible.
- 5:10It was traumatic.
- 5:12And it's sad.
- 5:13But it happened for a reason.
- 5:15My mom not being there to help me as that young age, that happened for a reason, because what I learned about myself was incredibly powerful.
- 5:25Because what's going to happen to us in life in general, as we all have.
- 5:32Demons that we must battle in life.
- 5:34We have demons of jealousy, greed, anger, resentment, fear.
- 5:39Jealousy.
- 5:41All of those things are demons that we must battle.
- 5:45It's how you combat them.
- 5:47That makes all the difference in the world.
- 5:49And that is the truth that bubbles up.
- 5:54So do you battle those as a victim?
- 5:57Or do you battle those as a victimizer?
- 6:01That is a theory of psychology that Sherri taught me the victim and the victimizer, the vicious circle.
- 6:08I talk about it all the time on my channel.
- 6:10I talk about it on my blog.
- 6:12And I do talk about it in the book because the lessons I learned from that, the victim or the victimizer.
- 6:19Is.
- 6:20What life is all about.
- 6:22Picture this, an argument takes place who is the bigger idiot.
- 6:27The victim or the victimizer and any argument you ever witness?
- 6:32It is always the same.
- 6:34It's always the same vicious cycle.
- 6:37And guess what?
- 6:37It happens more inside of yourself than it does anywhere else.
- 6:43So, what is the solution to that?
- 6:46The solution to that is to live in Victor.
- 6:49And Victor lives very much like Victor Frankel explained to us in his bookMan's Search for Meaning how we are responsible for the attitude that we choose, despite what's going on around us.
- 7:04Despite his family being killed right in front of him, he chose his attitude.
- 7:09That is what makes the difference in everything.
- 7:13That's what keeps you in flow.
- 7:14That's what keeps you in the zone.
- 7:16That's what keeps you going.
- 7:18In times of trouble because what's going to happen in life.
- 7:22Life is not fair.
- 7:23There is going to be lost.
- 7:24There is going to be people that hurt you, hurt people, hurt people.
- 7:30So that little dog tried to bite me.
- 7:33He was hurt.
- 7:35He symbolic of everything.
- 7:37We all get hurt.
- 7:40And what do we do when we hurt?
- 7:42We victimize those who hurt us.
- 7:44But there's a way out of it that way out of that little incident.
- 7:50Is this.
- 7:52That little dog is now an angel in my mind.
- 7:56He's a guardian protector of me.
- 7:59I see that little dog and every dog I've ever had in my life at every dog.
- 8:04I love.
- 8:06I see that dog in people who have hurt me.
- 8:09I see that dog in people who victimize me, myself, included.
- 8:17I see that dog in my mom.
- 8:19Where she feels bad because she could have done something different, but don't you see that because she didn't do something different.
- 8:27She didn't protect me from what happens in life.
- 8:32And I'm so grateful for that.
- 8:35The reason why I'm grateful for that is because.
- 8:39I don't look at things like everybody else.
- 8:41I noticed that.
- 8:42I'm not a victim of what happens to me.
- 8:45I'm not a victim of my circumstances.
- 8:47And that is what I've learned through my whole journey because I go on this journey, that's full of trauma loss, being bullied, being victimized over and over and over again.
- 9:01But I still come back and I say, what's next?
- 9:06And I do.
- 9:06And I invite you to do the same.
- 9:10All right.
- 9:10That's my episode for today.
- 9:12I hope you liked it.
- 9:13It's a little bit different than I usually do.
- 9:16So please, if you know someone who can benefit from this, please share it with them.
- 9:21And until next time.
- 9:23I'll see you next time.
- 9:24Peace out and Namaste.
