- 0:00Speaker 1: He's in and he calls it a darkness. It's darker
- 0:03Speaker 1: than black. And I've heard people commonly say that Jesus
- 0:08Speaker 1: called it the outer darkness where there will be weeping
- 0:11Speaker 1: and gnashing of teeth, meaning like just I don't know,
- 0:14Speaker 1: I guess just horrific, and that's what he experienced. Near
- 0:21Speaker 1: death experiencers are reticent to come forward because they this
- 0:26Speaker 1: is a sacred experience that is hard to describe in
- 0:29Speaker 1: our three dimensional terms, so they don't often come forward readily.
- 0:35Speaker 1: But even of those who have come forward, twenty three percent,
- 0:38Speaker 1: according to one study, came forward talking about having a
- 0:42Speaker 1: hellish experience to some degree or another, and so these
- 0:47Speaker 1: are common. This twenty nineteen European Academy of Neurology did
- 0:53Speaker 1: a study across thirty five countries found that five percent
- 0:59Speaker 1: of the population one out of twenty claims to have
- 1:01Speaker 1: had a near death experience. But they also found an
- 1:05Speaker 1: even greater percentage that had hellish experiences or negative experiences.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So you got to make sense of these as well,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know. Interestingly, Jesus talked about hell a lot as
- 1:24Speaker 1: something real, but not as a scare tactic. I think
- 1:32Speaker 1: it's more as a look, this is reality. And what
- 1:37Speaker 1: he came to do was that no one would no
- 1:41Speaker 1: one would go there, but some do in their near
- 1:45Speaker 1: death experience. So, for instance, I interviewed this atheist college professor,
- 1:51Speaker 1: tenured college professor.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Who was.
- 1:56Speaker 1: He was an art professor who was doing a tour
- 1:58Speaker 1: with students in Europe France and is uh his lower
- 2:03Speaker 1: du autumn dudem ruptured. You usually have like five to
- 2:08Speaker 1: six hours before you're dead because you're spilling all that
- 2:11Speaker 1: junk into your into your cavity. And it was a
- 2:16Speaker 1: weekend so they couldn't find a surgeon in France, and
- 2:22Speaker 1: after eight hours he died. Now he thought, when you die,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's just unplugged. The computer screen goes blank, there's nothing,
- 2:32Speaker 1: And that's not what happened. And instead, he said, he
- 2:38Speaker 1: was standing there by his bed, he felt the worst
- 2:41Speaker 1: he had ever felt in his life, and suddenly he
- 2:43Speaker 1: felt wonderful and he didn't even know he's dead, Like
- 2:47Speaker 1: he didn't realize he's dead because he's sitting there thinking
- 2:51Speaker 1: something happened. I feel wonderful, and he feels these new senses.
- 2:58Speaker 1: This this group of people then come into the hallway
- 3:02Speaker 1: and he can see them. The hallway and they're calling
- 3:04Speaker 1: to him, Howard, come come with us, and he said,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm sick. I need a surgeon. You know, that's what
- 3:09Speaker 1: he's been waiting for. And they said, oh, we know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: we know all about you. Come come with us. Don't
- 3:15Speaker 1: you want us to help you. We're going to help you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Come on, we've been waiting a long time, Come with us. Okay,
- 3:21Speaker 1: so time out. I like to point out that not
- 3:26Speaker 1: every near death experience is as deep as others, like
- 3:29Speaker 1: meaning all the elements. So some just there's an out
- 3:32Speaker 1: of body experience in their back end.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Those can be interpreted in a million ways, right, a
- 3:40Speaker 1: million worldviews can wrap around that. If Howard had at
- 3:45Speaker 1: this point come back to his body and been resuscitated,
- 3:49Speaker 1: his interpretation probably would have been, Hey, it's all good.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Atheists go to heaven. It feels great, it's nice people,
- 3:56Speaker 1: everything's good. But that's not what happened. So he starts
- 4:02Speaker 1: to follow these people and again time and even distance,
- 4:08Speaker 1: it doesn't work the same on the other side, which
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't fully understand that except that by analogy, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: think about you know, from from here to Austin, Texas,
- 4:22Speaker 1: where I live Nashville to Austin. It's a long way, right,
- 4:26Speaker 1: it's a two hour flight, But what if I could
- 4:30Speaker 1: think it and be there?
- 4:32Speaker 2: How far is it now?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah? Right, all of a sudden, distance doesn't mean the
- 4:37Speaker 1: same the same thing, so on the other side, so
- 4:41Speaker 1: he couldn't tell. And he follows these people and they
- 4:45Speaker 1: end up.
- 4:45Speaker 2: He ended up.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He starts to realize they're deceiving him. They're starting to
- 4:49Speaker 1: mock him, they're they're they're cursing him, they're all these
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And and he starts to realize this is not good.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And and then he realizes he's in this darkness and
- 5:02Speaker 1: it keeps getting dark, and he tries to say, hey,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I want to go back, and they're like, you're not
- 5:07Speaker 1: going anywhere, and they start pushing and shoving, and he's
- 5:10Speaker 1: in and he calls it a darkness.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It's darker than black.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And I've heard people commonly say that Jesus called it
- 5:19Speaker 1: the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing
- 5:22Speaker 1: of teeth, meaning like just.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It's you know, I don't know, I.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Guess, just horrific. And that's what he experienced. And so
- 5:34Speaker 1: he finally realizes he's being deceived. By these creatures that
- 5:38Speaker 1: he couldn't fully see completely because they were kind of veiled.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But now it's dark and he can't see him, but
- 5:45Speaker 1: he can feel them, and they start to maul him.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He starts to try to fight to get away, and
- 5:51Speaker 1: they just and they're having fun. So I've had him
- 5:56Speaker 1: talk to me about this four times and he starts
- 6:00Speaker 1: to describe it, and then he says to me, I
- 6:02Speaker 1: can't go any farther because he had PTSD from.
- 6:07Speaker 2: It every single time, and you interviewed him, he couldn't
- 6:10Speaker 2: push past.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a certain point that he would say, I
- 6:14Speaker 1: can't go any farther because it's taken me a long
- 6:17Speaker 1: time to he had what you know that's would call PTSD,
- 6:22Speaker 1: because it's real, it's more real than this. And I
- 6:28Speaker 1: think that's a very important point.
- 6:30Speaker 2: To note that.
- 6:34Speaker 1: What's what's ahead is better than the best we've experienced,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but what's ahead is worse.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Than the worst we've experienced, too.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And I believe that we are in a temporal you know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: time capsule for a purpose. We are we are in
- 6:53Speaker 1: a time of choosing. We're in a time of choosing
- 6:57Speaker 1: what kingdom do we want to be a part of it,
- 7:00Speaker 1: me and my kingdom and I rule, because, as it
- 7:03Speaker 1: turns out, that's what hell is. Hell is the creature
- 7:07Speaker 1: wanting to play god, and it's dominate or be dominated.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And that's what Howard realized in this place. It was
- 7:17Speaker 1: really interesting because he said, I mean, first of all,
- 7:22Speaker 1: picture of the worst prison scene.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Like the worst years ago. I saw the movie Midnight Express.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You ever see that.
- 7:31Speaker 1: No, I haven't a Turkish prison, you know, just getting
- 7:36Speaker 1: brutalized and raped daily and all kinds of a pretty
- 7:40Speaker 1: gruesome movie. That's what was going on, and so and
- 7:47Speaker 1: just being viscerated, and what he said several things he
- 7:52Speaker 1: said that was interesting. He said, you know, I realized
- 7:59Speaker 1: that these people were my kindred spirits.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So what do you mean?
- 8:04Speaker 1: So I realized that they were like me on earth.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I came to a point in my life when I
- 8:10Speaker 1: when I thought, the biggest, baddest bear in the woods wins.
- 8:14Speaker 2: And that's how I lived.
- 8:16Speaker 1: And he said, I I wasn't good to my I
- 8:19Speaker 1: went nice to my students. I was all about me
- 8:22Speaker 1: and building my my monuments to myself and my ego.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I cheated on my wife a lot. It was all
- 8:31Speaker 1: about me. And he said, what I realized is that
- 8:34Speaker 1: these people were like me on earth, but when when
- 8:39Speaker 1: the good was gone, it just spirals down.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Worse and worse. So he's in this.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Place and.
- 8:51Speaker 2: This is really fascinating.
- 8:52Speaker 1: He hears he said in his like in his solar
- 8:54Speaker 1: plex because yet he still was himself.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And he said he heard pray to God. And his
- 9:04Speaker 2: first thought is.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I don't believe in God, and he feels it again,
- 9:10Speaker 1: pray to God, and he's like, I don't. He's fighting
- 9:14Speaker 1: and this is a very important thing, Sean, because the
- 9:17Speaker 1: ego can imprison us. Our egos can absolutely imprison us.
- 9:23Speaker 2: And here he is.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Literally in a hellish place, experiencing the worst things you
- 9:30Speaker 1: can imagine, and he's hearing this pray to God, but
- 9:33Speaker 1: he's fighting it. And finally the third time he's like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I don't even know what to pray. I don't and
- 9:42Speaker 1: he you know, and he starts just saying this like
- 9:45Speaker 1: God bless America and thy country tis of thee and
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, he's just piecing things together and and he's
- 9:54Speaker 1: saying these things, but when he says the name of God,
- 9:58Speaker 1: they become more angry and are threatening him even more.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But he also noticed backing off. So he keeps doing
- 10:10Speaker 1: it because it's working. And then he ends up just
- 10:15Speaker 1: alone there and he said, for how long? I don't know,
- 10:19Speaker 1: he said, time doesn't work the same. It could have
- 10:21Speaker 1: been decades, but he was just thinking about his life
- 10:26Speaker 1: and he was thinking about you know, how again on
- 10:32Speaker 1: the other side, Truth is truth, there's no hiding, and
- 10:35Speaker 1: he's like, He's like, this is who I become, this
- 10:39Speaker 1: is what I deserve.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But at the same time, he didn't want that. And
- 10:44Speaker 2: he hears in his.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Soul the song he heard when someone took him to
- 10:52Speaker 1: church as a kid, Jesus loves Me, and he couldn't
- 10:55Speaker 1: remember anymore except Jesus loves me, and he had this
- 10:59Speaker 1: thought and he now thinks God was even in that
- 11:02Speaker 1: trying to reach him. You know, in this battle he's
- 11:06Speaker 1: having in his own spirit even then, and he finally
- 11:13Speaker 1: gets to the end of himself. You know, we all
- 11:16Speaker 1: have to hit rock bottom before we look up. That's
- 11:19Speaker 1: a famous recovery principle. Some different people have different rock bottoms,
- 11:24Speaker 1: but you know, many times we have to hit rock
- 11:27Speaker 1: bottom before we look up. And Howard said to me,
- 11:30Speaker 1: my rock bottom was low, and he cries out, you know,
- 11:35Speaker 1: he thinks to himself, even if Jesus does exist, why
- 11:39Speaker 1: would you care about me? I've been so horrible, But
- 11:44Speaker 1: in desperation, he just cried out, Jesus saved me, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: he said, into this darkness, he sees a speck of
- 11:51Speaker 1: light coming, getting brighter and brighter and brighter till again
- 11:55Speaker 1: he described as brighter than the sun. But he could
- 11:57Speaker 1: look at it and it was mesmer and arms reach out,
- 12:02Speaker 1: pick him up, take him out of there, and he's
- 12:06Speaker 1: then standing before these angels being held by Jesus, and
- 12:11Speaker 1: he gives him a life review.
