- 2:02a Parmar store near you now there will be soon. Well, we know
- 2:07the fate of a w V basketball coach, Bob Huggins, that announced,
- 2:09but coming yesterday, we're gonna get into that with former mayor City Charles.
- 2:15Danny Jones is going to join us a little bit later on the show're gonna
- 2:16be interesting to get Danny's take on that, as well as other things going
- 2:21on in the city. But speaking of things and the county and the nation,
- 2:23in the world, because he's because he's Danny Jones, he's worldly that
- 2:25way. But speaking of things going on a little bit more closer to home,
- 2:30I want to welcome in the mckensey Spencer, Executive Director of Festival.
- 2:32Mckensey, good morning. How are you learning Return of the Mac that used
- 2:37to be a thing I was waiting for the Song Act to work on that
- 2:39Return Return of the Mac Fest of All is back for the nineteenth year.
- 2:44A lot of stuff going on. There's lots and lots of stuff going on.
- 2:46June ninth through the eighteenth. We've got every seventy events in ten days,
- 2:51so it'll be a busy, busy time in the city of Charleston.
- 2:53Then give us the whole idea behind festival. I mean, it's become a
- 2:57feat you know, has become a thing in Charles nineteen years. But but
- 3:00give us the whole idea behind the whole thing. So basically the impetus behind
- 3:05the creation of festival was there are things that we can go and travel and
- 3:08do and big acts and performances at international talent and things that we could see.
- 3:14Well, why can't we see that right here at home. Why do
- 3:15we have to travel? Why do we have to go somewhere else? And
- 3:19so it's sort of based after Spiletto, which is a wonderful arts festival in
- 3:23Charleston, South Carolina, and some others around the nation. But there are
- 3:28several people that kind of got together, Larry Gross, Danny Jones actually being
- 3:31one of them, Vic Gregoracci, several people in town that said, we
- 3:36want to do something here, and so festival started as a three day kind
- 3:38of long weekend and now we're at ten days in June and then we do
- 3:42another ten days in October. That kind of brings music, art, theater,
- 3:46dance and so much more to the city and the dates are. The
- 3:50first round will be June ninth through the eighteen, correct. Yeah, and
- 3:53you just had the big announcement to announce all of this. We did,
- 3:55yeah, a couple days ago. So yeah, we've got full schedules now,
- 3:59and Festival Charleston dot com has everything that we've got going on. But
- 4:01we really do kind of focus on music, theater, art and dance as
- 4:04kind of our pillars. But you'll see culinary events, you'll see events that
- 4:09surround literature. You'll see things that are very hands on, family friendly.
- 4:14You'll see a lot of things that are interactive and kind of performancy, and
- 4:18so you'll see a little bit of everything with what we're doing, and we're
- 4:21going to throw out a lot of information to you, but the bottom line
- 4:24is we need you to make sure that you just go to the website in
- 4:26the social media give all that in case we forget. Yeah, absolutely,
- 4:30Yeah, Fest of All Charleston dot Com. We'll have the full schedule.
- 4:32It's in a calendar format and you can kind of download which ones you want
- 4:35to do to kind of plan out your time. But we'll have print schedules
- 4:39all over town too. So it's a nice little pamphlet here that you brought
- 4:42in those things. I say, it's a pamplet. This is like it's
- 4:45like a war and peace or something. Here, thirty six pages of events
- 4:49for you and the family to come and do. And I mean a thing
- 4:51that we pride ourselves on too, is a lot of what we do is
- 4:55free and open to the public. We want to make sure things are accessible,
- 4:57We want to make sure that people could come out, try new things,
- 5:00be part of the action. And so a lot of what we do
- 5:03is free, good, good stuff. All right, So how do you
- 5:05decide what to put in festival because there's just so many different things. What
- 5:11goes into that decision? Well, I mean one thing that you know,
- 5:14I don't think we can even say the word festival without saying the word partnership.
- 5:17Because there are so many organizations in town, out of town that reach
- 5:21out to us and say, we want to be a part of festival.
- 5:25We have this program, can we collaborate? And we do. And we're
- 5:29so fortunate to have such a tight knit arts community here that really does support
- 5:34each other and really wants the betterment of Charleston as a whole. And so
- 5:39a lot of things come to us from partners and they say, like,
- 5:43let's work on something together. We're excited about this, We're excited about the
- 5:46time of year, but I mean we do also look at, you know,
- 5:47what our national international things that you may not be able to see other
- 5:50places, and what can we do to bring something new and fresh and something
- 5:57maybe a little quirky and unique been fun to Charleston. And the majority of
- 6:01events again we're talking with McKenzie Spencer, the executive dress a director of festival.
- 6:05The majority of the events are free. Yeah, absolutely, we just
- 6:09want you to come out have a good time. You know, We're going
- 6:12to be doing free concerts at Slack Plaza. We've got the Capital Street Art
- 6:15Fair and Children's Art Fair that are completely free to come hang out all day.
- 6:20We have new musicians every hour on the hour all day long. We've
- 6:24got stilt walkers that will be there. We've got jugglers that will be there.
- 6:28Like, We've got lots of entertainment. And then you've got things like
- 6:30Dizzy Doc who is our balloon sculptor and he brings thousands and thousands and thousands
- 6:34of balloons and makes these huge pieces of art that's gonna be at the Clay
- 6:39Center and you can watch him actually construct throughout the week and see what the
- 6:43final kind of masterpiece looks like at the end. So we've got lots of
- 6:46things to do. And what is amazing to me McKenzie about an event like
- 6:50this in any event, you know, from Regatta to Foam at the Dome,
- 6:54which is going to be happening this weekend and we'll have more of that
- 6:57coming up in the show tomorrow Live on the Levee, is there are some
- 7:00many people and so many moving parts and these things to pull it off.
- 7:02But the thing about festival is is that it's literally all over Charleston everywhere,
- 7:08and so you may you may be here, you know, um you know,
- 7:12Slight Plaza for example, but at the same time there's something going on,
- 7:15you know, on the complete other end of town. It's not all
- 7:17in one area exactly. And that really does go back to we really do
- 7:20rely on our partners. Um. You know, there are days where we
- 7:24have you know, ten eleven events. We have a staff of three and
- 7:28so we can't physically be us. I don't really like the numbers. Thankfully,
- 7:33we are going to have some great interns with us this summer. You
- 7:36know, we could not do this without volunteers. We have so many great
- 7:41volunteers that come year after year after year, and it's such a great way
- 7:45to meet people, but also get tickets to events that we do. If
- 7:47you volunteer, you get a ticket to something that you'd like to go to
- 7:50and all those good things. So we really do kind of have an army
- 7:55that supports this event, which is so amazing. I mean not to mention
- 7:59the city workers that also are a huge part of everything that we do,
- 8:03from police and fire to the guys that close the streets to refuse and recycling.
- 8:07We really could not do it without everybody. Do you need more volunteers
- 8:11at this point? I mean, could you use it? I'm never going
- 8:13to turn out volus. The reason I'm saying this is because, and I
- 8:16bring this up whenever we have these uh, these these things that go on
- 8:18around the city and around the valley, is is that I know that kids
- 8:22have to do so many hours of community service in order to graduate from high
- 8:26school. And so is that something that that that you could still use the
- 8:31volunteers or service organizations your rotaries kuanas thing, I mean continue volunteers. Oh
- 8:35yeah, absolutely, we could always use volunteers, and we really can use
- 8:39you know, high school freshmen, you know, whatever age group you're in.
- 8:43We could definitely um have an event that kind of caters to you.
- 8:46Um. So, if you go to Festival Charleston dot com, you can
- 8:50sign up to be a volunteer. And like I said, every volunteer,
- 8:52every volunteer shift that you do, you get a ticket to a ticketed event
- 8:56during festival, whether that be mountains stage, wine, wine and jazz,
- 9:01one of the concerts that we're doing. You know, things like that.
- 9:03You can get a ticket to one of those things for helping us by giving
- 9:07of your time when you have this many things going on at one time.
- 9:09McKenzie, I think a lot of people don't necessary to think, Okay,
- 9:13that's a festival event, right, you know, like you mentioned wine and
- 9:15jazz and and the other things, and it's all part of it. It's
- 9:20all part of it. And yeah, I mean we bring everything from bringing
- 9:24concerts like I said, dislike plaza to wine and jazz, two rolls on
- 9:26the River with Charleston Monasoria out on Hadad Riverfront Park, to Live on the
- 9:31Levee. All of these things together create festival and really bring the energy of
- 9:35festival to our city. And so we're super proud to have all of those
- 9:39events kind of under our umbrella, all right, And again, where can
- 9:43people get more information Fest of All Charleston dot com. It's and the dates
- 9:46are June ninth through the eighteenth, and then you come back and do Fest
- 9:50to Fall yes in October. Yeah, a lot of good stuff goes on
- 9:54with this. And again, you know, there's so many things that go
- 9:56on here in the Canal Valley in general, but specifically in the city of
- 9:58char Charleston, and when you look at everything that goes on in this it's
- 10:03you know, Regatta is huge, and I know you're not competing with Regatta
- 10:07everything. We're so fortunate in this valley to have all of these things going
- 10:11on. I mean, my gosh, the amount of events that we have
- 10:13going on in the city of Charleston is just phenomenal and we are so happy
- 10:16to be a part of that. But the overall message of there's plenty to
- 10:22do in Charleston, there's always things to do in Charleston is what we want
- 10:26to be a part of it all. It always not to be negative,
- 10:28but it all it always does crack me on McKinzie when people say, and
- 10:31this is not only a Charleston thing, but let's put in South Charleston and
- 10:35Saint Albans in Tay's Valley and people say, there's nothing to do around it
- 10:37there. I just don't. I mean, at any any given time,
- 10:41especially during the warm weather months, on a weekend, you've got five to
- 10:46ten to fifteen different things to do and you can't possibly do them all.
- 10:50No, you can't. And I mean I've lived here my entire life,
- 10:54like around this area, and I don't think I've ever been able to say
- 10:58that. I mean even younger, be in college I went to Uce,
- 11:01Like even those times, I don't think I was ever able to say there's
- 11:05absolutely nothing to do here. I'm bored. I don't have you know,
- 11:09there's something to do. It's just you gotta maybe dig for it a little
- 11:13bit. But I mean, especially you know, live music around here.
- 11:16Every weekend you can find live music in Charleston. There's always events, there's
- 11:20things going on. And I mean I think that people should definitely check out
- 11:26you know, Facebook and things like that because people do a good job of
- 11:28marketing on them too. Yeah. Absolutely, right, mckensey Spencer, the
- 11:31executive director of Festival. It's a June nine through the eighteenth. Will have
- 11:35you on before then again, and we'll have you on after then and daring
- 11:37then all right, perfect, it's your staff of three. Yes, I
- 11:41was gonna say, well, good chunk, carve that chunk of time out
- 11:43now let's do it. Good luck with that, McKinsey, Best of luck
- 11:46with everything. Five Nitty Live brought to you a part by Hustins Pizza this

- 15:01Hooker there for us former mayor Danny Jones. How are you man? You're
- 15:03doing I first learned of his existence fifty years ago. Yeah, he's something
- 15:07man, one of those many California radio stations, all these different genres,
- 15:13and I listen to him. He's good. Well. One of the things
- 15:15that I uh, when when I put together the what we call the bumper
- 15:18music for this show, Like you know, motivational type music that I like.
- 15:22And of course every time I hear that song, I think of the
- 15:24scene in The Blues Brothers. Of course that song and he were around long
- 15:28before The Blues Brothers ever came out, but I just think of him sitting
- 15:31down there in that in the district in Chicago and the Warehouse District just playing
- 15:35that. It's just good stuff. Classic movie, you know, at the
- 15:41beginning your intro, you Struther Martin, what we got here is figured to
- 15:46community. Yeah, and that was in six nineteen sixty seven, The Coolhand
- 15:52loth Oh, yeah, my dad's all time favorite movie. That's why I
- 15:54do that. Well good in nineteen seventy five and watch Hard Times James Colburn,
- 16:02Charles Bronson, who's the bare fisted fighter during the depression. And then
- 16:07Struther Martin is he's not the doctor, but he had spent a few years
- 16:11in the in the medical school, so he became the cut man. But
- 16:21he said, he said, he said, two years didn't make a doctor.
- 16:25He said, well, there was a dark cloud that appeared on campus
- 16:29and it was it was opium, you know exactly. But it's a great
- 16:32movie. And you told me I've got to You've told me that several times,
- 16:36and I'm not watching it. I need to do that. I mean,
- 16:37I really think you'd enjoy it because of the characters and Jill Ireland's in
- 16:42it. The Blonde who's Charles Bronson's wife, and Jill Ireland one time was
- 16:48married to David McCallum is still alive English actor, and he David McCallum introduced
- 16:57Jill Ireland to Charles Bronson named Charles Franson says I'm gonna marry Well, that's
- 17:04one way to end a friendship, and he did. He did, Danny,
- 17:08I got several things I want to get your opinion on. I always
- 17:11appreciate you stopping by the studio here to get your opinion on things. But
- 17:14you know, Greg Greg Carey has a lead story. W Metronews dot Com
- 17:18and Dave Wilson announced the first via ESPN yesterday that the WU men's basketball coach
- 17:22Bob Huggins will be staying at WVUM suspended for the first three games of the
- 17:27upcoming season, takes a one million dollar hit to his salary and that money
- 17:33will go directly to support wvu's LGBTQ Plus Center, as well as other state
- 17:40and national organizations that support quote marginalized communities. There'll be a donation directly to
- 17:45Xavier University, the school that UH coach disparaged on that now famous radio interview
- 17:52with Bill Cunningham on WLWT to Cincinnati. His contract has now been changed from
- 17:56a multi year deal to a year to year deal. Both the university and
- 18:03coach Huggin's release statements about it immediately yesterdayson, as the ESPN reported it.
- 18:10Your thoughts on the whole thing. I mean, this thing that seems like
- 18:11it's been a story for weeks, but it's only been since late Thursday or
- 18:17I'm sorry, Monday afternoon. Your thoughts on the whole thing. I got
- 18:19a text from somebody you know, see that name right there and about the
- 18:25middle the Shelly Capita. No no, no, doun I'll take it,
- 18:29okay, I don't know which one it is, Oh from Hoppy? Yeah.
- 18:32Well, I didn't want to say it loud, but I'll say it
- 18:33Hoppy. Here's what I texted, Hoppy. I didn't think I just compressed
- 18:38that. You have text from Shelley Moore Capital. Well, I'll tell you
- 18:42what I told her, And I texted I got up yesterday morning and text
- 18:48Center a text, and I said, I didn't think they could keep him.
- 18:53Right now, these words belong to the coach and are part of his
- 18:56brand. If the school does let him go, then the school owns the
- 19:02words, and the words become part of the school's brand. Now I didn't
- 19:07realize. I mean, maybe this should matter. Maybe he shouldn't a lot
- 19:11of money involved here with donors, with recruit and the football program's not doing
- 19:21that well, So do they really want to throw that away? So I
- 19:26there's a basketball program. But but I mean, yeah, no, I
- 19:29understand what you're saying. Don't understand what you're saying. But he the guy
- 19:33from Bluefield on on Jeff's News this morning, he said, um, he
- 19:38said, uh, well, you know, coach Higgins is the face of
- 19:44West Virginia w VU something like that, Kevin Cander, I think for Blue
- 19:48and Gold News. I think the point is maybe that's the reason he should
- 19:51go. So you think he should have I'm asking you, you don't think
- 19:56you should have been fired. I don't think you should have been I thought
- 19:59I thought but he would have. I thought they would have. But but
- 20:02but I was wrong, and I'm and I'm actually not unhappy about that.
- 20:04I'll tell you one I thought he was gone. I read the New York
- 20:07Times every day, big feature article. Oh yeah, you know, Washington
- 20:11Post him and uh because they are the leaders in cancel culture. And I
- 20:17was with Huggins once. I want to tell you I'm not into WV sports.
- 20:21I'll watch a football game occasionally, but I was into um when I
- 20:26was a mayor. I was with him and he was gonna make a speech
- 20:30to the Civic Center and I got to be with him and introduce him,
- 20:34go up and sit with him. And you know, he's a man's man.
- 20:37Yeah, he's an old school guy. You can tell just because of
- 20:41his personality. Speaking for one, you can tell he's he's done arm exercises.
- 20:48Okay, that's one way to put it, but okay, And but
- 20:52he stood up there and did stand up for thirty to forty minutes with no
- 20:56script and every once in well, I was sitting next to him in a
- 21:00coat and tie, and hec you know what, mayor, they really believe
- 21:06this stuff, you know, like that. So I became the straight guy,
- 21:08right. I mean, the guy is really good and I'm sure he's
- 21:11a good coach. He has friends that are good friends of mine actually relativism
- 21:17that are really good friends to him. And if it was me, what
- 21:21I've done by the school, And of course I want to deal with somebody
- 21:23I know, I'd call Andrew Schneider Right then, I said, West Virginia,
- 21:30help us get through this. And I don't. I don't know about
- 21:33this national money. Don't send it to do it locally here, do it.
- 21:38I mean, let Andrew Snyder take he's a reasonable guy, and let
- 21:42him deal with it. And then you can pick people to help and do
- 21:45things with. And the lesson in this whole thing is and I did it
- 21:52twice. I did it once in my restaurant, and I did it once
- 21:56on the air. In nineteen ninety two, ninety three, there was there
- 22:03was a guy I'll do them on everything. First I was down the dial
- 22:07and I use that term. I don't remember what contexts. I don't know
- 22:12if I was referring to somebody or quoting somebody, but that particular term,
- 22:17that particular term, okay, so heck, I remember when Harold or used
- 22:21to use that term on his TV show. So a guy called me the
- 22:25next day. I think his name was Kevin and he says, you know,
- 22:30I listened to your show every morning, and I really enjoy what you
- 22:33do. But I'm gay, and you've really hurt my feelings and you ruin
- 22:38my day. And I decided right then i'd never ever say that word again.
- 22:42And I don't. It's really a good idea not to say stuff in
- 22:48private. Yeah, that you won't say in public that includes that word or
- 22:52the N word or anything. Don't say it. Yeah, I mean,
- 22:56for those of us in this profession, you're absolutely right. And I'm in
- 22:59anybody. Yeah, No, you're right, you're right. And I will
- 23:02say this as I think that I am and I have, and people that
- 23:07listen to the show have heard me rail against cancel culture so much, but
- 23:12I think you've got to draw the line on there's a difference, and here's
- 23:17here's and hear me out on this, the listeners and mayor and UH and
- 23:21others, just to hear me out on this. We have free speech in
- 23:25America, and I've saw so many people on social media last couple days say
- 23:30what about free speech? What about free speech? Yeah, absolutely, you
- 23:32one hundred percent have free speech, but that does not protect you from the
- 23:36consequences of and you have to understand that Bob Huggins was on that show as
- 23:41the coach of West Virginia University. He was not at the bar, he
- 23:45was not at the car. That's why he was there and it and he
- 23:52was representing West Virginia. And in today's culture, like it or not,
- 23:59you just simple cannot say things like that and think that it's not going to
- 24:03happen. And if you think the courts are proven Danny, that free speech
- 24:07does not extend to when you're on the job. I have free speech.
- 24:12I can say pretty much whatever I want to on this radio show, but
- 24:17I'm going to have Joe Parsons and Dale Cooper standing outside the studio with my
- 24:21stuff packed up. If I say something wrong at the next break, yeah
- 24:25exactly. If I even get that, I may not even get that.
- 24:27And I use this example of somebody earlier this morning, I was talking to
- 24:30friend of mine and I said, you know, if you're selling and I'll
- 24:33use Thornhill for example, because they're sponsored the show Thornhill aido Group. If
- 24:36I am working Thornhill atdo group and you come on the lot and I say,
- 24:41you know, you could get a much better deal going to another dealership.
- 24:45Well I can say that, but I'm gonna get fired for it.
- 24:48Yeah, because you don't have free speech when you're on the job. That's
- 24:52just that's just the bottom line. Now that have eve Ben said, I
- 24:56am not in any way, shape, form or fashion to quote or a
- 24:57governor. I'm happy be that that coach Huggins is still going to be around.
- 25:02I am very happy about I was wrong. I predicted that he would
- 25:04be fired. I was wrong, and I own that, and I'm happy
- 25:07that he's not because I think I think there's such a cultural and such an
- 25:14age divide, because I mean, he's not a young guy, you know,
- 25:17and he's quite he's and he's dealing with you know, eighteen to nineteen
- 25:21year olds every day, which may as well be centuries apart, you know,
- 25:25as far as what ages are. And I think they can certainly learn
- 25:27a lot from him, if they learn the right things. But but we're
- 25:30in a different time, Danny, than what we were twenty years ago,
- 25:37you know, let alone you know, fifty or sixty years or thirty.
- 25:40Yeah, I like when I use that word, Yeah, I'm just trying
- 25:42to think, all right, so a decision has been made. I like
- 25:45the decision. Once again, I'd have bought Andrew Schneider in front of the
- 25:49camera because I like the guy, and he's he's a gay guy, and
- 25:53he used to be with the SLU. And he's a smart guy. Yeah,
- 25:56and he's practical. He's a smart, practical guy. Only what you
- 26:00want to do, let him help you with this. But maybe they're doing
- 26:03that. But I'm glad he gets to keep his job. And I'm hoping
- 26:08that they're the backlad there won't be a backlash against the decision. In other
- 26:12words, if in White New York Times, Washington Post, if all of
- 26:17them start running ads, and then if Joe Scarborough or all of them start
- 26:21beating up Western University, I hope they don't. I have a feeling maybe
- 26:25they won't. I hope they well, I hope it's a done deal.
- 26:27I wonder he's over at this point. I don't know. If I mentioned
- 26:30he got suspended for the first three games of the season. Who who coaches
- 26:34one of the assistants. I mean, you know, college basketball, much
- 26:38like college football, normally, the first few games of the seasons are just
- 26:41creampuff games anyway, So I mean, you and I could probably coach some
- 26:45of those games so that they have. But I mean, and I heard
- 26:48somebody say that, well, if they really wanted to hurt him, they
- 26:52could have suspended him for the tournament, you know, when the Big twelve
- 26:55tournament comes around, or if they make the NCAA tournament. You know.
- 26:57Bottom line is, you're not going to make everybody happy with every decision.
- 27:00I think, considering the culture we live in now, I don't necessarily agree
- 27:06with all of it, that possibly that was about the best decision they could
- 27:08make at this point. I like it. I think it's a good,
- 27:12good decision, and I hope there's not a lot of backlash. And I
- 27:15wonder this week on Bill Maher Ifh'll deal with it though. I I'm a
- 27:22big Bill mar fan and I have been for a long time. But I
- 27:23because even on weekends, you know, me staying up till eleven o'clock is
- 27:26probably not happening. But I recorded the show and I'm about four or five
- 27:30weeks behind. I need to go back and watch it. I mean,
- 27:33I got some text here, uh text says hugs should see what I skipped.
- 27:37One. They went way too far in the punishment forced funding of LGBT
- 27:42groups there's nothing short of plan of paying reparations. That's not fair, that's
- 27:48not true, um Ith. The first thing you have to find out where
- 27:52the money goes. But that's why it goes to lgbt Q groups on campus
- 27:56and in other areas. They have a center, an LGBTQ center, and
- 28:00I don't have it in my notes here of the name of it. They
- 28:03actually have a center on campus for LGBT WVU. I think I'm right about
- 28:08that. Yeah, I didn't know that. Yeah, but that's but I
- 28:12think that, you know, they it costs money. They go up there
- 28:15and try to lobby as the legislature and that doesn't do a bit of good
- 28:19with this crowd. But I've actually contributed to that, and uh, Andrew
- 28:26is up there during the session. Maybe they can help them with their activities.
- 28:30Tech says hugs should just push back on this crazy punishment and just resigned
- 28:33instead of doing all this woke reparations crap. It's true, it's not fair,
- 28:37not true. Can't just say stuff like that. Tech said, I
- 28:41figured Huggins would have been fired for insulting Catholics before insulting the LGBT community.
- 28:48Got gotta be careful with humor mhm. And here's the thing about it is,
- 28:53I was having, you know, talking to somebody about this the other
- 28:56day and we were just kind of going back and forth about this. I
- 29:00am a I'm the biggest free speech advocate in the world in the right setting.
- 29:03Dave Chappelle. I love Dave Chappelle. I know people want to cancel
- 29:07Dave Chappelle or whatever. I love the guy. I think he is a
- 29:11comedic genius. Okay, But there's a difference between in what you say in
- 29:15a comedy club and what you say on a flamethrower of a radio station,
- 29:21which that's an industry term meaning a powerful radio station w LW on the Bill
- 29:26Cunningham Show. There's a big difference between that you walk through that doors of
- 29:30that comedy club, whatever you say, it's fair game and m P.
- 29:33I don't care if you insult every every possible group in the world, because
- 29:37you know that going in that that's that's what you're in for. You know,
- 29:42he is one of the people. He and Bill Maher are and what
- 29:48Joe Rogan, there are three of people that police the cancel culture. I
- 29:52mean, they get on the cancel culture. They don't like it. Howard
- 29:55Stearns another one. Yeah, they don't like it that there are people on
- 29:57both sides of the aisle. There's what I think about the people that battle
- 30:00the cancel culture. There are people on both sides of the aisle, liberals
- 30:04and conservatives that kind of come together against us. You know, in the
- 30:07sixties, David, because I'm old enough to remember this, liberals were much
- 30:14different. I mean, there was a guy that used to speak on college's
- 30:18campuses named George Lincoln Rockwell, and he was the head of the American Nazi
- 30:22Party, and he was a frequent speaker on college campus. The point with
- 30:30the liberals in those days was I may not agree with what you say,
- 30:33but I'll fight for your right to say. Voltaire, that doesn't happen anymore,
- 30:37not at all. Tex says, wasn't he on the radio? It's
- 30:38a former Cincinnati basketball coach. Good point, because you know, Cincinnati had
- 30:44that rivalry and still do with Xavier, and you know, of course Huggins
- 30:48was a coach at a UC for a number of years. And uh,
- 30:52yeah, that's that's a good point. I understand what you're staying their.
- 30:53Texa or Texas says, great to hear on the radio, Danny Hope,
- 30:56all is well from Carrie. Oh that's great, that's uh Jeff's niece.
- 31:02Um, that's that's a link to a story. I can't read that when
- 31:07I'm on their appreciate it. Um all right, you ready for a negative
- 31:12text? Go? The text says I heard Mayor Jones had a bunch of
- 31:15gay pride protesters to get the blank out of Charleston. I did. I've
- 31:19seen the video on YouTube. They were from Michigan or somewhere. I told
- 31:25the woman to go take a bath. I'd do it again. My my,
- 31:30my idea was that that the first thing, what's she doing down here?
- 31:33This is West Virgins and her business. But she's out there on the
- 31:36boulevard. And I stood out there kind of at parade were at rest,
- 31:41and then Steve Cooper came out and stood next to me. And my idea
- 31:45was to have a line of straight people to protect the gay people so they
- 31:51could make their their parade to go down to the because the parade went behind
- 31:55us, right, I mean, I you know, I'm for Charleston,
- 31:59and there's lat urban areas you're gonna find it a lot of gay folks and
- 32:02I grew up a lot of them, So tex says, if there's no
- 32:06free speech of the job, then why didn't that apply to all of the
- 32:08pro athletes that took a knee during our national anthem? They were on the
- 32:12job. I agree, well, their brand, they could have done it.
- 32:15I mean, the owners of those teams could have done something about that
- 32:19if they wanted to. But they're caught in the middle of something which they
- 32:22don't quite understand, and a lot of us don't. Texas. Dear Dave,
- 32:25I will likely be shouted down for this, but Huggins should have been
- 32:30fired yesterday. Bad optics in the state that really doesn't need it. WVU
- 32:34could have scored some points in the eyes of the rest of the country.
- 32:37Is swing and a miss, Texas. Danny Jones from mayor in twenty twenty
- 32:40four, Now, that's not going to happen. Oh, come on,
- 32:43announce it now, Danny, Come on. I don't want to be mayor.
- 32:46I like just coming on here and being on the show with you.
- 32:51Tex says the West Virginian legislature is placed a target on the backs of LGBTQ
- 32:57citizens and their legislation regarding transgender is shoes and their failure to pass the Fairness
- 33:00Act. Huggins' actions have further harmed the LGBTQ community and further as to portrayal
- 33:06that West Virginia is unwelcoming and inhospitable to gay folks. No wonder our population
- 33:10continues to decline year after year in the long run. In the long run,
- 33:15I disagree with that. In the short run, yes, but did
- 33:17in the long run, no tex says, so the apology is never enough,
- 33:22an acknowledgement, apology and acceptance of punishment from the school are just not
- 33:25enough. So he and the school must do what the mobs want and send
- 33:29the money where they want. Otherwise his apology means nothing. Question mark.
- 33:31That is the mob rule we are now in Texas. Dave Huggins received proper
- 33:37reprimand considering what University of Michigan basketball coach Jwan Howard did, the Wisconsin assist
- 33:43to coach Howard should have been fired fine old texts on this subject. We'll
- 33:46go to break. Didn't listen to the conversation on the radio, so I'm
- 33:49not sure what was asked that prompted the discussion. Doesn't the radio person have
- 33:52some responsibility for bringing up the subject talking about Bill Cunningham. Yeah, but
- 33:57you yeah, there is, yeah, there are some truth that wish had
- 34:00a second seven to second second. But you gotta you have to know Bill
- 34:06Huntingham and what Bill Cunningham brand is. He's not as nice as I know.
- 34:09He's the one that called Barack Obama a Muslim when John mccam was on
- 34:15the air. Ye, John McCain had to disavallee. Yeah, all right,

- 37:30Former mayor Danny Jones is here. Ryan Nicholson is our producer today. Um,
- 37:34and you know sometimes things happen off the air that would make good stories
- 37:38on between the show Now now, Now Now and Ryan, this may be
- 37:43something we may want to roll on this. Okay, So Danny, Danny
- 37:47gets a phone call while we're talking here and I can here Here's phone is
- 37:52vibrating, and of course you can't take it because he's talking to me.
- 37:55Then Danny, in the break two minutes ago, picks up the phone and
- 38:00calls doctor. It was your doctor, my throat doctor, your throat doctor,
- 38:06and I had what was the verdict down? I had a bob see
- 38:08last Friday because if you remember every year ago, I almost couldn't talk on
- 38:12him. I mean I literally I came out a couple of times, and
- 38:15then my voice would come and go, and then finally, uh, I
- 38:21want to see doctor Phillips down in Knaal City, who I'd recommend, and
- 38:24the VA paid for it because I have VA Healthcare. But I've also both
- 38:29made a care by now and they just called me and said I do not
- 38:31have cancer. So that's good for me. There's more people in here we
- 38:36would applaud. But yeah, no, no, that's just great news for
- 38:37me. That's great, I mean, and that's that's great news because it
- 38:40happened literally two minutes ago. And Danny had the doctor's office on speaker phone
- 38:45and I just heard them say you do not have cancer. Yeah, and
- 38:47I was. I was in my close friends and Dave's one of them,
- 38:50and the sales guys and Tim and Ron and all my close friends to know
- 38:54about this, and uh so I was, I actually had presupposed if you
- 39:00do it, it's not as bad as what you had before because they can
- 39:02do it with a radar microwave or whatever they use there. And even though
- 39:07it would cause me some issues, I would be able to get rid of.
- 39:10My dad had it and of course he started smoking literally when Coolidge was
- 39:15president. I'm not kid yet. You told me that story before, and
- 39:21but good news. Yeah, you do not know answer, And we literally
- 39:23just got the breaking news right here. We just got it, tex,
- 39:27says Danny, who go back to go back to the fight here. Danny
- 39:30if a Michigan lgbtwo, these letters all run together. I'm sorry LGBT protester
- 39:37had no business in Charleston because it's not their business. Does that also apply
- 39:40to other civil rights groups, such as black rights groups because it's not their
- 39:44business? I don't quite understand. I think what they're saying is is you
- 39:49told the Michigan protesters this wasn't your town to get out. It wasn't one
- 39:53of those people didn't use What was the I think what the text is trying
- 39:57to say was what was the difference between civil rights people that went to all
- 39:59these different states that they didn't belong in or that they weren't exactly what?
- 40:02And this is a subjective analysis. They don't have a come on. The
- 40:07people that I've got in front of don't have a claim. They don't have
- 40:10a legitimate claim. They operate on negative ativity. These gay people aren't hurting
- 40:15people. They have a gay pride gathering and a parade. They've they've rewarded
- 40:21me awarding and I'm very honored by it, and I feel badly for people
- 40:25that don't grow up around all kinds of people. Well, I don't know
- 40:30how to say that, but when you're down into logan did they have any
- 40:34gaze when you're growing up? Yes, a lot. No. Okay,
- 40:37well, well they were there, they just weren't. They weren't very Gays
- 40:43tend to. They don't stand rural areas. They if you ever watch Brokeback
- 40:47Mountain, you don't know why, and which is a terribly sad movie.
- 40:52But if you they moved to Charleston, a lot of them live on Jackson
- 40:55Street. I mean it's there's a there was an area when up forty years
- 40:59ago, there was an area of Jackson Street and we we counted they had
- 41:04they had like fifty six gays in one block, you know, because that's
- 41:07where they clustered. Who cares let these people out? They're gathering and who
- 41:13is this woman that comes down here and wants to nullify them? It's they
- 41:19don't have this woman doesn't have a legitimate beef. That's a subjective analysis on
- 41:22my part. I'm proud I made it. I don't hate anybody. And
- 41:30the gays weren't protesting anybody. They were just having fun. They were having
- 41:35a gathering and making speeches and all that stuff. There's another fun. That's
- 41:40not me, that's not you, that's somebody else who else is in here?
- 41:44There's nobody else. Well, my phone's ringing, but it wasn't.
- 41:46Texter says, did you or Danny c or here? Donald Trump's CNN town
- 41:52hall last night. Interestingly, I was watching h talk show on YouTube this
- 41:59morning and some outtakes from it, And it depends on who you who you
- 42:04listen to. Drudge Reports said that Trump went back the same old did I
- 42:10didn't watch it, but I read all that, but I saw some outtakes
- 42:13from it where he didn't do bad at all, and he was folks.
- 42:16I'm not a fan, but he said that now he's so he exaggerates so
- 42:21much, I want him call him wise. He said he said that under
- 42:24Biden, gas went to nine dollars a game, and then he said,
- 42:30we can't get rid of guns because there's nine hundred million guns out there.
- 42:32There's probably four hundred million guns out there. But for for the there's some
- 42:40parts he looked good and some parts he didn't. He had some of his
- 42:44people in the audience. But I think that mister Trump should muster up the
- 42:49courage to get on the stage with the rest of the of the Republican candidates
- 42:54and don't have BONESPURSSI thank you. He was found liable for sexual battery and
- 43:00defamation of via false statements, but not guilty of the rape of writer Egene
- 43:06Carroll, the person who accused Trump with the charges. She was awarded five
- 43:08million dollars in compensatory impunitive damage. Last night on the interview, he called
- 43:13her a wacko and said he didn't know who she was, but then before
- 43:17it said she's not my type because that justifies sexual assault. I gains somebody
- 43:22who say something like, it doesn't understand rape because rape power. Yeah,
- 43:25it's it's it comes out a sexual bent. It has nothing to do with
- 43:29sex. Yeah. And so he could get in trouble again by coloring their
- 43:35names. He needs to shut his mouth. Well, good luck with that.
- 43:37And Texas free speeches, protection from the government, except when you work
- 43:43for the government. Texas nice to no paining reparations is objectionable. Imagine for
- 43:47four hundred years you were less than human, two hundred of which you were
- 43:51literal property, and you were subjected to assault, murder, rape, lynching,
- 43:53and all forms of terror. Imagine your grandparents were property. Imagine that
- 43:58those who owned your ancestors were paid compensation because they lost him of property when
- 44:01slavery was ended. If you endured a minute of this, perhaps you want
- 44:05compensation. I think that I'm grateful and proud to come from the state of
- 44:09West Virginia that succeeded to stay in the Union. Even though I have one
- 44:16of my lineages of the four lineages, I have won one of my lineages

- 44:49that, you know. Someday the next time I come on here with you,
- 44:52I want to I want to do a show about the America First Movement.
- 44:55Okay, and I because that's being used a lot, and we used
- 45:00before World War Two. And the head of it was a guy named Charles
- 45:04Lindbergh. And there are pictures of Lindbergh meeting with Gurring and having his arm
- 45:12up. And Roosevelt told one of his one of his cabinet members, said,
- 45:16if I die to morrow, remember I said that Charles Lindberg's a Nazi.
- 45:21And the America First Movement was discredited by what happened in Japan and thereafter
- 45:28we've never gotten into war because we were too too strong. We're too weak,

- 48:19wasn't I was out there finish the text Minnesino, California had the most expensive
- 48:22gas in the United States, coming in at a whopping nine sixty per gallon
- 48:27June ninth, twenty twenty two. All Right, well, I'm not gonna
- 48:30argue with you. Sound like you know what you're talking about. But I
- 48:32was in Long Beach in twenty twenty two and the gas was like six ninety
- 48:37nine or yeah, six dollars something like that. But okay, I'm not
- 48:44I mean, that's a stretch. Well, it's California in the United States,
- 48:47though, are they really part of us? A couple of things he
- 48:52reminded me of something. If you are a remember of the Republican Party,
- 49:00we all do research on our lineage in our background who were related to but
- 49:06as a Republican, you need to know where your DNA comes from. And
- 49:09that's why you need to watch the nineteen sixty four acceptance speech of Senator Barry
- 49:15Gowater. I mean, it is really, really so good, and you
- 49:21will understand partly of where you came from and where your thought process, not
- 49:27all of it. Now, he wasn't into the religious right. Abortion wasn't
- 49:30an issue, but then in nineteen eighty it change because Reagan bought into religious
- 49:34right. So please watch this speech. You don't have to like Gowater.
- 49:38And he told he said, make no mistake about it, folks, don't
- 49:44don't brush don't brush this one under the rug. He says, we are
- 49:50in Hey, we are at war in Vietnam. That's what he says.
- 49:53I said, please not for the record, he said, folks, Okay,
- 49:57because it almost I know he did say, folks. Tex says all
- 50:01the questions came from Trump supporters last night. Trump was at his outrageous worst
- 50:07last night. Well, I see Ann's trying to chase their change their brand,
- 50:12and the young lady asked him some tough questions. Look, if you
- 50:16believe I mean, you know, he lost the election, Folks, he
- 50:23lost it's not a crime. But instead of embracing it and say I'll be
- 50:29back to fight another day, he makes people embrace a lie and he's it's
- 50:35almost destroyed the Republican Party. You mark my words. If he's the nominee,
- 50:39it's over tech, says Dear Dave. Trump didn't gain any new support.
- 50:44That's the important thing. Wasn't enough wackos in twenty twenties certainly won't be
- 50:49in twenty twenty four. Reparations says a Texter might be okay post to generation
- 50:53or even a second generation, but we're legitimately eight generations back. There's a
- 50:58little, but too much sins of the fire. For me, reparations are
- 51:04not this gay thing. It's not reparations. It's it's actually public relations of
- 51:09money. That's what it said. That's that's a good way. That's what
- 51:12it's gonna turn into. U. If paying all that money to the groups
- 51:15is not reparations, then we need Danny to explain why it's not, because
- 51:19it's that's not what it's gonna go for. It's not gonna be individual payments
- 51:22to any individuals. Most gay people are just regular folks. They're just they're
- 51:28everywhere and what this will go to is like fairness West Virginia, and it'll
- 51:32it'll evolve in lobbying efforts and they'll work something they won't work up here.
