- 2:00Speaker 1: going on score.
- 2:01Speaker 2: There's some good ones on here. Oh yeah, there's some
- 2:03Speaker 2: good ones from him or just other people.
- 2:05Speaker 3: There's a there's a list of folks. Okay, I mean
- 2:09Speaker 3: you know anywhere from John Gruden, Oh, which would be
- 2:14Speaker 3: pretty good. Yeah, it's expensive, but he's there.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I bet he is. He is rather expensive, about four
- 2:20Speaker 2: fifty okay, four hundred and fifty for about I think
- 2:23Speaker 2: sixty seconds.
- 2:24Speaker 3: You got, I mean anywhere from you got the uh
- 2:28Speaker 3: Caliendo guy that that that is Jay John Gruden.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Didn't we have Caliendo on a long time ago? Yeah?
- 2:34Speaker 2: It was right, Yeah, Oh, I know we had Larry
- 2:37Speaker 2: the cable guy and his other buddy Billings from or whatever,
- 2:41Speaker 2: and then but didn't we have CALLI Yeah, yeah, the
- 2:43Speaker 2: dude from Hattiesburg. Yeah, right, didn't he put us in
- 2:46Speaker 2: with Calliando.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Okay, all right, when he did a show down there,
- 2:50Speaker 3: yeah the singer. Yeah, that's right. Shooter McGavin's on this list,
- 2:55Speaker 3: Shooter mccabin. Uh, dude, that Twitter account.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It's great. Yeah, that's a good one. It's good.
- 3:02Speaker 3: John Daly's on here, John Daily.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Rockers on here, John Rocker from the Atlanta I
- 3:09Speaker 2: haven't heard that name in twenty years. Oh that's okay.
- 3:12Speaker 2: He's only sixty five bucks. So rock is very very affordable,
- 3:18Speaker 2: very affordable. Okay, all right, I mean got it.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Rick Flair is on here, obviously he'll do them, and
- 3:24Speaker 3: it's five hundred plus.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Emmitt Smith's on here. Michael Irvin? How much is Emmitt? Emmitt? Seven?
- 3:30Speaker 2: Twenty five? That doesn't surprise me for one minute? Okay, Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 2: so that's some pretty good ROI right here here. I
- 3:37Speaker 2: just need you to talk for fifty seconds to sixty
- 3:40Speaker 2: seconds to make seven hundred and fifty bucks.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Okay, because because you once the cameo is man, you
- 3:45Speaker 3: own it, right, I can do what I want with absolutely.
- 3:48Speaker 2: That's mine, I mean my that's my assumption. Yeah, man,
- 3:52Speaker 2: what was Michael Urban? How much is he?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Irvin?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Five hundred is the base. All these are the base numbers.
- 3:59Speaker 3: You can ob get these packages. Look, I mean you
- 4:02Speaker 3: can do vip this video thirty five Irvin. Okay, I
- 4:06Speaker 3: don't know what that business video would consist of, but
- 4:09Speaker 3: I think it's I mean, it's gonna be a lot
- 4:10Speaker 3: longer in a minute.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Got it? Wow? Ed ozeron doing cameos? Okay, who's who's
- 4:17Speaker 2: can you? You know Mike Leach did cameos and but
- 4:21Speaker 2: can you imagine or retired Mike Leach doing cameos? Oh
- 4:24Speaker 2: my god? Oh wow, these are ten minutes because I
- 4:27Speaker 2: think Mike would be on the higher I mean I
- 4:29Speaker 2: think Mike could get two to four hundred bucks just
- 4:31Speaker 2: because he's such a eclectic. Yeah, just what's he gonna say? Right?
- 4:36Speaker 2: What's the can of course? Mike only going sixty seconds?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah right? You know, I just all the times that
- 4:42Speaker 2: I talked to him on the phone, I mean, one
- 4:44Speaker 2: on one was fantastic, and we we would tape him
- 4:49Speaker 2: because he you just didn't know. He couldn't do a segment.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And what I mean by that to our listeners is
- 4:59Speaker 2: you didn't know what direction was you were going to go,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and so you couldn't try to couldn't play one. No,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you couldn't drop Mike in a nine minute segment, Mike Leech,
- 5:09Speaker 2: Eddie Oh, doing cameos. That's incredible, it really and and
- 5:14Speaker 2: Leech was doing it when he was at Washington State.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I don't know if he was set up to get paid.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I assume he was. I just can remember the picture
- 5:23Speaker 2: before he took the Mississippi State job. I guess it
- 5:25Speaker 2: was the year they went eleven and two at Gardner
- 5:27Speaker 2: Minshew and he did some He did a cameo for
- 5:29Speaker 2: somebody and maybe it got sticky on on social or something. Anyway, Uh,
- 5:35Speaker 2: that was cool.
- 5:35Speaker 4: You pick.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So you pulled up EMMITTT. Smith, Michael Urban, John Rocker,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Eddie Oh, and there's a million other.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a chunk.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Okay, they got him up to, you know, Mike l
- 5:45Speaker 2: Ever to do you a ten minute video. So then
- 5:50Speaker 2: you're getting in the five thousand plus right, Okay, okay,
- 5:56Speaker 2: all right, Well, I mean that's some good that's some
- 5:58Speaker 2: good side hustle money. I mean, if you can make
- 6:00Speaker 2: ten to fifteen thousand dollars a month doing cameos plus
- 6:04Speaker 2: all the other things that these guys do all day.
- 6:06Speaker 2: As far as announcing, and you know they get paid
- 6:09Speaker 2: to show up to golf events and they endorse this
- 6:11Speaker 2: and that. That's pretty damn good. I mean, do you
- 6:15Speaker 2: go there, do you go to like Dolly Parton? What's Dolly?
- 6:17Speaker 2: How much is she price? I would think she's pretty expensive.
- 6:21Speaker 2: In fact, let me guess, hold on, she's gotta be
- 6:23Speaker 2: more expensive than it. I'm gonna say yes, but let's
- 6:27Speaker 2: see because I know you had him it at seven
- 6:30Speaker 2: twenty five ish, and so I'm gonna go, she's more
- 6:34Speaker 2: expensive three five? Oh, she's not. Okay. I wonder if
- 6:39Speaker 2: she would have been in her heyday if we actually
- 6:42Speaker 2: had iPhones in nineteen eighty one. I don't know, something
- 6:45Speaker 2: to think about. Maybe right Island's in the stream her
- 6:48Speaker 2: and Kenny Rogers, who knows we are the out of
- 6:51Speaker 2: Bounds Show, ESPN one oh five nine The Zone. Let's
- 6:54Speaker 2: drop the Drew Brees. Some of the Drew Brees press
- 6:58Speaker 2: conference show was brought to you by Farm Bureau Insurance.
- 7:03Speaker 2: We want you to bundle your auto and home and
- 7:05Speaker 2: save with your local farm Bureau insurance agent. Competitive rates
- 7:10Speaker 2: are powered about Farm Bureau Insurance. You hear Jake Mangham
- 7:14Speaker 2: talk about it go with the home team powered about
- 7:16Speaker 2: Farm Bureau Insurance. This is Drew Brees and his speech
- 7:20Speaker 2: at the Hall of Fame.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 7:28Speaker 5: To the Hall of Fame class of twenty twenty six.
- 7:31Speaker 5: I cannot have asked for a better class of men, players,
- 7:35Speaker 5: and contributors to the great game of football. It is
- 7:38Speaker 5: an absolute honor to join this elite fraternity with you,
- 7:41Speaker 5: and we are now.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Bonded for life. To all the Hall of Famers.
- 7:46Speaker 5: You've inspired generations, You've passed it forward, and we will
- 7:50Speaker 5: do the same. It is impossible to properly articulate or
- 7:54Speaker 5: encapsulate all the feelings, emotions and appreciation that comes along
- 7:59Speaker 5: with a twenty year and AFL career in the time
- 8:00Speaker 5: that we have, but I will do my best to
- 8:02Speaker 5: entertain and enlighten you with the stories, the places and
- 8:06Speaker 5: people who shape my mindset, directed my trajectory, and defined
- 8:11Speaker 5: my career. We may laugh, we may cry. Chance I
- 8:16Speaker 5: make it through this without crying is zero. But most
- 8:20Speaker 5: of all, I hope we leave with a greater love, respect,
- 8:22Speaker 5: and reverence for the virtues of this game. I've always
- 8:26Speaker 5: relished the opportunity to play sports and be a part
- 8:29Speaker 5: of the team I came from a very athletic and
- 8:32Speaker 5: competitive family. In fact, this story best sums up how
- 8:36Speaker 5: important sports was to our family growing up. My uncle
- 8:39Speaker 5: Marty Akins was an All American quarterback at the University
- 8:41Speaker 5: of Texas, running the wishbone offense with future Pro Football
- 8:44Speaker 5: Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. When Marty was in elementary school,
- 8:48Speaker 5: he was called in the principal's office with my grandfather,
- 8:52Speaker 5: Ray Aikins, who is a legendary high school football coach
- 8:54Speaker 5: in the state of Texas.
- 8:56Speaker 4: The principal went on to say that she.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Had some concerns about what young Marty was being taught
- 9:01Speaker 5: at home. Apparently in class that day, Marty had been
- 9:04Speaker 5: asked to stand up and name before seasons. Instead of
- 9:07Speaker 5: saying summer, fall, winter, and spring, Marty instead said football, basketball, baseball,
- 9:14Speaker 5: and track. I'd like to thank all of the members
- 9:21Speaker 5: of my family for hardwiring this competitive desire and spirit
- 9:25Speaker 5: into my system at a.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Very early age.
- 9:28Speaker 5: To my father, Chip, thank you that the answer to
- 9:31Speaker 5: me whenever I would ask to play catch, to pitch
- 9:33Speaker 5: to me, shoot hoops with me, or drop me off of.
- 9:36Speaker 4: The field was always yes.
- 9:39Speaker 5: My mother, Mina Ruth Akins was the most competitive person
- 9:43Speaker 5: I've ever known. She passed away seventeen years ago yesterday,
- 9:47Speaker 5: So much of her lives inside of me, and I
- 9:51Speaker 5: know how proud she would be of me, but even
- 9:55Speaker 5: more so of her grandchildren. My brother Reid, whether you're
- 10:04Speaker 5: catching crawfish and shoal creek, riding our bikes at the
- 10:06Speaker 5: baseball card shop, or putting dents in our parents' garage
- 10:09Speaker 5: pitching to each other, you were the best brother I
- 10:12Speaker 5: could ever ask for.
- 10:13Speaker 4: And my sister.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Audrey, I'm so proud of your accomplishments and the woman
- 10:17Speaker 5: you've become. I don't take for granted that I got
- 10:21Speaker 5: to play the most coveted position in all the sports.
- 10:25Speaker 5: From as far back as I can remember, I wanted
- 10:28Speaker 5: to play quarterback. I never saw the position as one
- 10:32Speaker 5: of pressure, but rather one of great responsibility. Bill Parcells
- 10:37Speaker 5: described it as the steady hand that steers the ship.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Marty Schottenheim would say there is no position on the
- 10:43Speaker 5: field whose performance has greater impact on those around him.
- 10:48Speaker 5: Bill walshoff and emphasized the great quarterback play is about
- 10:51Speaker 5: making the correct decisions repeatedly. The quarterback is the distributor
- 10:56Speaker 5: of hope and confidence a master of probability, the ultimate
- 11:01Speaker 5: problem solver. I've always seen the game of football in
- 11:04Speaker 5: the quarterback position as a true art form, like a.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Song or a dance. The key to the art form
- 11:11Speaker 4: was controlling the rhythm of the game.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Everything had a rhythm, from the articulation of the play
- 11:16Speaker 5: in the huddle, to the pre snap cues and communication,
- 11:19Speaker 5: to the cadence and the snap of the ball to
- 11:22Speaker 5: your feet dropping back, the timing and flow of your
- 11:24Speaker 5: hitch or your gather, to the point three seconds between
- 11:28Speaker 5: your front foot hit and the ground that set off
- 11:30Speaker 5: a combustion of energy from the ground force all the
- 11:32Speaker 5: way from your toes to your fingertips as it translates
- 11:36Speaker 5: power to the pronation and the spin of the ball
- 11:38Speaker 5: as it releases into the atmosphere. That feeling is what
- 11:43Speaker 5: I live for. I wish I could say it we're
- 11:46Speaker 5: stress free. Quite the contrary, the amount of heads face
- 11:50Speaker 5: this occupied in a given week was all consuming. How
- 11:53Speaker 5: can I visualize every eventuality, every possible scenario. What if
- 11:57Speaker 5: the defense does this, What if it does that? If
- 12:00Speaker 5: they decide to take this player away, what if they
- 12:02Speaker 5: bring that exotic pressure in that crucial situation? Luke Keighley,
- 12:07Speaker 5: but I love the chess match. It was a complex
- 12:10Speaker 5: puzzle to solve. Each drive represented a section of that puzzle.
- 12:15Speaker 5: If you failed with one, you could log away that
- 12:18Speaker 5: information and come back to it later with a different
- 12:20Speaker 5: perspective or a different confidence. And to solve it was
- 12:24Speaker 5: euphoric because through the process you saw something take place.
- 12:30Speaker 5: You saw a masterpiece come together, with every teammate and
- 12:34Speaker 5: position playing an integral role in the final outcome. And
- 12:40Speaker 5: that feeling began in high school to this day. One
- 12:43Speaker 5: of the proudest accomplishments in my career was winning a
- 12:45Speaker 5: Texas five A state championship for west Lake High School
- 12:48Speaker 5: in Austin, Texas. Youth sports, and especially high school football,
- 12:55Speaker 5: should always be about character and leadership, development, teamwork, and
- 13:00Speaker 5: positive affiliation.
- 13:02Speaker 4: May we never forget that.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Thank you to Ron Schrader and all of our coaches
- 13:12Speaker 5: at Westlake who built a program that we all strive
- 13:14Speaker 5: to be a part of, one that prioritized discipline, accountability,
- 13:18Speaker 5: and camaraderie. Thank you to Karmick Kiara, the mentor and
- 13:22Speaker 5: motivator for our entire team as we suffered through summer
- 13:25Speaker 5: conditioning at Heartbreak Hill in East Austin on Pernal Street,
- 13:29Speaker 5: end of the class in nineteen ninety seven, who led
- 13:31Speaker 5: with incredible passion and purpose, becoming the measuring stick for
- 13:34Speaker 5: every team that followed. But one of the most life
- 13:37Speaker 5: changing events occurred my junior year of high school. After
- 13:40Speaker 5: suffering a major an injury which put my athletic career
- 13:43Speaker 5: in jeopardy. My identity was challenged. Up until that point,
- 13:48Speaker 5: sports had defined me and I wasn't sure who I
- 13:51Speaker 5: was without it. Sitting in church on my seventeenth birthday,
- 13:56Speaker 5: Christ came into my heart and changed me forever. I
- 14:06Speaker 5: felt protected, connected and directed towards the path that God
- 14:10Speaker 5: had for me. He would equit me for the journey
- 14:14Speaker 5: which led me to places I never could have expected.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Thank you to Pastor Shaan Mitchell, Miles McPherson, Rob Wilton,
- 14:21Speaker 5: and Troy Martin for your Christian mentorship in my life.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Purdue University.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I still don't know how you got this Texas kid
- 14:34Speaker 5: up to West Lofeyett, Indiana, but it was certainly one
- 14:38Speaker 5: of the best decisions I ever made. Sorry Boom. I
- 14:42Speaker 5: chose Perdue because of its academic reputation and the opportunity
- 14:45Speaker 5: to play in the Big Ten Conference. Little did I
- 14:49Speaker 5: know I would leave four years later with the one
- 14:50Speaker 5: of the most respective degrees in the country, a Big
- 14:53Speaker 5: Ten championship, the love of my life, and an opportunity
- 14:56Speaker 5: to live out my childhood dream being a professional athlete.
- 15:03Speaker 5: It is an absolute honor to join Purdue Grace, Bob Greasy,
- 15:06Speaker 5: Lynn Dawson, Rod Woodson, and legendary coach Hate Shram as
- 15:09Speaker 5: boiler Makers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thank
- 15:16Speaker 5: you to Tim Pepplopano, wide receiver coach at Purdue and
- 15:19Speaker 5: the one who claims to have stood on the table
- 15:20Speaker 5: to recruit this six foot hundred and seventy pound kid
- 15:22Speaker 5: out of Central Texas. To coaches Jim Cheney and Greg Olsen,
- 15:25Speaker 5: thank you for pushing me, for preparing me, for testing me,
- 15:29Speaker 5: and always holding me accountable. To our late head coach
- 15:32Speaker 5: Joe Tiller, thank you for creating an environment where we
- 15:34Speaker 5: always had to prove it. You always had that look
- 15:40Speaker 5: in your eye like you knew something we didn't. You
- 15:43Speaker 5: knew how hard to push us, and that was well
- 15:45Speaker 5: past our perceived limits. We trusted your plan, as you said,
- 15:49Speaker 5: a new standard that developed grit, toughness and put a
- 15:53Speaker 5: massive chip on our shoulders.
- 15:54Speaker 4: We carried that everywhere we went.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Two of my best friends in the world were part
- 15:59Speaker 5: of that class of Purdue, Ben Smith and Jason Larzel.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Thank you for your friendship, your loyalty, your unwavering support,
- 16:06Speaker 5: and being there for me during some of.
- 16:07Speaker 4: My toughest moments.
- 16:11Speaker 5: As great as it was to be your teammates and
- 16:13Speaker 5: lifelong friends, what's even better is watching our children grow
- 16:16Speaker 5: up together. So many emotions travel through you during the
- 16:22Speaker 5: NFL draft process. With one pick, your life and circumstances
- 16:26Speaker 5: can change forever. You just hope that you end up
- 16:28Speaker 5: in the right place at the right time, with the
- 16:31Speaker 5: right team, with the right coach in the right system.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Thank you to the Spannos family.
- 16:36Speaker 5: General manager John Butler and coach Norv Turner, who had
- 16:40Speaker 5: everything to do with drafting me to the San Diego
- 16:42Speaker 5: Chargers in the second round of the two thousand and
- 16:45Speaker 5: one NFL Draft. This was exactly where I was supposed
- 16:52Speaker 5: to be, and what made it even sweeter I was
- 16:55Speaker 5: joining the guy they drafted in the first round. Hall
- 16:57Speaker 5: of famer and one of the greatest running backs in history,
- 17:00Speaker 5: Danian Thomlinson. How many people know as LT and I
- 17:07Speaker 5: grew two hours from each other and played on the
- 17:09Speaker 5: South Texas All Star team together in nineteen ninety seven.
- 17:12Speaker 5: We found our way back together four years later as
- 17:14Speaker 5: Heisman Trophy finalists. At the Heisman presentation, we both made
- 17:18Speaker 5: a statement, wouldn't it be something if we ended up
- 17:20Speaker 5: on the same team?
- 17:22Speaker 4: Lt.
- 17:23Speaker 5: I always felt a strong kinship with you. We had
- 17:26Speaker 5: so much in common. Drafted the same year, married the
- 17:29Speaker 5: same year, won the Walter Peate Man of the Year
- 17:31Speaker 5: the same year. We grew up together quickly in this league.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I credited so many things in my career to the
- 17:38Speaker 5: five years I spent with the Chargers. From the first
- 17:40Speaker 5: moment I walked into the facility, there was no question
- 17:43Speaker 5: who the leaders were, Junior Seau and Rodney Harrison.
- 17:52Speaker 2: We're listening to the Drew Brees speech over the weekend,
- 17:56Speaker 2: can't Ohio and it was a great, each unbelievable weekend.
- 18:02Speaker 2: We're going to continue on with it. You know, you
- 18:06Speaker 2: forget we're so Saints driven, but you forget the impact
- 18:12Speaker 2: that the Chargers had on him and that he won
- 18:15Speaker 2: a high school state championship, a Big Ten championship at Purdue.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Who's the worst or second worst football program in the
- 18:24Speaker 2: Big Ten. I guess they're the worst now because Indiana
- 18:27Speaker 2: comes out of nowhere and wins the national championship last year.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I'm not sure what the new Purdue ad was doing
- 18:36Speaker 2: last week when he referenced Indiana and not winning championships.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Maybe no one had told him that Indiana is they
- 18:46Speaker 2: are the national champs going in to this season. But
- 18:51Speaker 2: I thought I thought the Breeze speech was great. Our
- 18:55Speaker 2: Hall of Fame coverage is brought to you by Rick's
- 18:57Speaker 2: Pro Truck RPT Kids, Bedliners, tires and wheels. Ricks Pro Truck,
- 19:05Speaker 2: three locations across the Jackson Metro. Build your truck to
- 19:09Speaker 2: actually work as hard as you do. Go see them today.
- 19:14Speaker 2: RPT trucks live here. This is Breeze and your best leaders.
- 19:18Speaker 5: And that standard was clear with June Bug and hot Rod.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Another one of the great influences early in my career
- 19:24Speaker 5: was Doug Flutie.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Doug, you were ahead of your time.
- 19:27Speaker 5: I saw you throwing backshoulder throws, nowheck passes and manipulating
- 19:30Speaker 5: arm angles long before it became a revolutionary thing. I
- 19:34Speaker 5: modeled so much of my game after you, and I'm
- 19:36Speaker 5: not sure if there was anyone more competitive. Thank you
- 19:39Speaker 5: for being supportive of me throughout my entire career. Well,
- 19:46Speaker 5: Lorenzo O'Neil, one of the greatest fullbacks ever played the game.
- 19:48Speaker 4: They don't make them like you anymore. Low lo'neil used
- 19:51Speaker 4: to call me Peb as a young player was PBPB.
- 19:54Speaker 4: One day, loneil said, you know.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Why I call you peb man? It means pro bowler,
- 19:59Speaker 5: because that's who you are. But you gotta believe it. Lo.
- 20:02Speaker 4: You just don't know how much that meant to me
- 20:03Speaker 4: at the time. I love you, Peeb.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Antonio Gates, one of the greatest tight ends to ever
- 20:11Speaker 5: played the game.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I just wish we had more time together.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Marty Schenheim are one of the greatest coaches and motivators
- 20:18Speaker 5: to ever coach this game, and who belongs here in Canton.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Marty was my biggest fan. He would tell me that
- 20:25Speaker 5: all the time, even as he benched me three times.
- 20:27Speaker 5: It made me fight for my job every year with
- 20:29Speaker 5: two greats, Doug Flutie and Philip Rivers.
- 20:32Speaker 4: The first two.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Times I got.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Finished, I deserved it.
- 20:35Speaker 5: The third time I still don't think I deserved it coach,
- 20:39Speaker 5: but nonetheless it lit more than a fire. It forced
- 20:43Speaker 5: me to access a place in my mind and my
- 20:45Speaker 5: heart that I had not yet been. The adversity was
- 20:49Speaker 5: not expected, but very necessary. I would never had reached
- 20:53Speaker 5: the heights I did without it. I knew I needed
- 20:56Speaker 5: to play better, but more importantly, I knew that he
- 21:00Speaker 5: believed I would play better. Thank you to coach Cam
- 21:04Speaker 5: Cameron and Brian Schottenheimer, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for
- 21:07Speaker 5: the Chargers. Never Forget a film session in two thousand
- 21:10Speaker 5: and three. I was coming off a tough game, and
- 21:13Speaker 5: as we watched the tape together, they asked me the question, Hey,
- 21:17Speaker 5: why didn't you throw to this receiver He was wide open,
- 21:20Speaker 5: to which my response was I couldn't see him. The
- 21:25Speaker 5: tape paused, there was a moment of silence. They glared
- 21:28Speaker 5: at me and said, it's your job to see you
- 21:34Speaker 5: reach a point in your career when you stop making excuses.
- 21:40Speaker 5: It's usually a moment or an event where you flip
- 21:43Speaker 5: a switch or make a very conscious decision and it becomes.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Part of your being.
- 21:49Speaker 5: They were right, and never again would those words or
- 21:53Speaker 5: thoughts come out of my mouth. I would need to
- 21:56Speaker 5: find a way to play the game a little bit different,
- 22:00Speaker 5: even if it was in a way that had not
- 22:01Speaker 5: been done before, it would shape me for what came
- 22:05Speaker 5: next New Orleans. When we bought our home in the
- 22:17Speaker 5: hard uptown New Orleans, bride and I could not have
- 22:19Speaker 5: been more excited and scared to embark on this new
- 22:22Speaker 5: journey and chapter in our lives. As we were moving in,
- 22:25Speaker 5: containers of housewarming gifts began to show up at the
- 22:27Speaker 5: front door. As I opened the lid to the first container,
- 22:30Speaker 5: expecting to see brownies or perhaps chocolate chip cookies, it
- 22:34Speaker 5: was rather the smell of butter and onions and Cajun
- 22:37Speaker 5: seasoning and a dark ru that made up crawfish at tufe.
- 22:43Speaker 4: The next day it was jumbalaya. The next day was gumbo.
- 22:45Speaker 4: And we're not talking a small container.
- 22:47Speaker 5: We're talking a big vat of the best home cook
- 22:49Speaker 5: Louisiana flavors.
- 22:50Speaker 4: You could imagine.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Welcome to New Orleans, but nothing compares to what we
- 22:58Speaker 5: experienced every Monday night during my career in New Orleans
- 23:01Speaker 5: for fifteen years straight.
- 23:02Speaker 4: And this is no exaggeration.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Our neighbors, step and Kathy Price would make our family
- 23:06Speaker 5: red beans and rice and cornbread. Whether it was their house,
- 23:09Speaker 5: our house, or with great friends like Trombone Shorty.
- 23:12Speaker 4: It was what we all looked forward to together
