Transcript
- 0:11Hello friends, it's Yvonne, Sean's wife.
- 0:15Here it is, Monday the 7th of July and if you're surprised to
- 0:20hear my voice, you might not realise that Sean and I have
- 0:23been reading Song of Solomon together and we have another
- 0:28week coming up and I'm trying my best to enter it with
- 0:32confidence. Thank you for your encouragement
- 0:34if you've been someone who's said kind words to me this week,
- 0:38but you are all going to hear plenty from me in today's
- 0:42reading, so I'm passing you over to Sean.
- 0:45Hello friends. Yeah, that's right.
- 0:47We are going to continue this week reading through the Song of
- 0:51Solomon and this week we're reading through the back half.
- 0:53We've covered the 1st 4 chapters and now we're going to cover the
- 0:56last four chapters as we settle into a completely different
- 1:01rhythm of Bible reading. We are not going to be hearing
- 1:03prophecies about the future. We are not going to be hearing
- 1:07God's declaration to His people. We are going to be reading some
- 1:11poetry, some poetry about the love between a man and a woman,
- 1:17which doesn't feel very much like the rest of your Bible.
- 1:19And we'll talk as the week goes on about different lenses that
- 1:22we can use to approach this. But Avon has introduced herself.
- 1:28I have done the same. So only one thing left to do.
- 1:30Honey, you're ready. Alright.
- 1:34Let's do it. Let's read together Song of
- 1:36Solomon chapter 5. I have entered my garden, my
- 1:51treasure, my bride. I gather myrrh with my spices
- 1:56and eat honeycomb with my honey. I drink wine with my milk.
- 2:01Oh, lover and beloved, eat and drink, Yes, drink deeply of your
- 2:06love. I slept, but my heart was awake
- 2:11when I heard my lover knocking and calling.
- 2:14Open to me, my treasure, my darling, my dove, my perfect
- 2:18one. My head is drenched with dew, my
- 2:22hair with the dampness of the night.
- 2:25But I responded, I have taken off my robe.
- 2:29Should I get dressed again? I have washed my feet, should I
- 2:33get them soiled? My lover tried to unlatch the
- 2:37door and my heart thrilled within me.
- 2:40I jumped up to open the door for my love and my hands dripped
- 2:44with perfume, my fingers dripped with lovely Mir as I pulled back
- 2:48the bolt. I opened to my lover, but he was
- 2:53gone. My heart sank.
- 2:57I searched for him but could not find him anywhere.
- 3:00I called to him, but there was no reply.
- 3:05The night Watchmen found me as they made their rounds.
- 3:08They beat and bruised me and stripped off my veil.
- 3:11Those Watchmen on the walls make this promise.
- 3:16O women of Jerusalem, if you find my lover, tell him I am
- 3:21weak with love. Why is your lover better than
- 3:25all others? A woman of rare beauty?
- 3:28What makes your lover so special that we must promise this?
- 3:34My lover is dark and dazzling, better than 10,000 others.
- 3:39His head is fine as gold. His WAVY hair is black as a
- 3:43Raven. His eyes sparkle like doves
- 3:46beside springs of water. They are set like jewels washed
- 3:50in milk. His cheeks are like gardens of
- 3:53spices giving off fragrance. His lips are like lilies
- 3:58perfumed with Mir. His arms are like rounded bars
- 4:02of gold set with Beryl. His body is like bright ivory,
- 4:07glowing with lapis lazuli. His legs are like marble pillars
- 4:12set in sockets of finest gold. His posture is stately, like the
- 4:18noble Cedars of Lebanon. His mouth is sweetness itself.
- 4:23He is desirable in every way. Such a woman of Jerusalem is my
- 4:29lover, my friend. Oh Lord, thank you that you are
- 4:44not some robotic 2000 God plus no, you are a God who is
- 4:51passionate and a God who loves with your whole heart.
- 4:56Thank you for your word and the full breadth of it and the way
- 5:00that it speaks with such passion of the love between these two
- 5:03people. Thank you that well, you have
- 5:07made us capable of such passion and to receive and to give with
- 5:12big hearts and great emotion. Lord, sometimes this is a good
- 5:17thing, sometimes this is a painful thing.
- 5:19But Lord, this is part of the experience of life that you have
- 5:22given us. So we thank you for the lives
- 5:26that we we have, that we live that we enjoy.
- 5:28We thank you for our big heartedness, but most
- 5:32importantly for your big heartedness, for your love for
- 5:36us, your passionate love for us, sending us your only Son in
- 5:40sacrifice so that we can be with you.
- 5:44We love you and we pray all of this in Jesus name, Amen.
