- 0:00Right, where shall we start then?
- 0:02It's been an eventful few days.
- 0:05Jesus.
- 0:08I don't know, Liam.
- 0:10Should we kick off with the news that just hit the press?
- 0:14We all know that the transfer window was a shambles in the end for Everton, but breaking out today is news that the freaking group are looking to, we don't know whether it's going to be a partial sell or a full sell, but they're looking to,
- 0:29to sell shares in the club what is going on what are your thoughts on this he's having to talk into consideration the size of the job haven't he
- 0:44That's what it looks like.
- 0:46I mean, my first response is that they're really smart business people and they know the way around the business world because they own multiple things and are involved.
- 0:56They're already in a football club.
- 0:58But I'm just thinking, have these been fully explained what they've bought?
- 1:03Have these really gone into the details of what they've paid for?
- 1:07Because I don't think they have.
- 1:09And if they have, then it's a cock-up on their half and a shambles.
- 1:13But ultimately,
- 1:15I think these have had the fright of their lives when they've seen what's being done at our place and the state and mess that it's in and these are having to deal with it and now the most recent thing that's coming out is this, we need some backing and that's worrying because they're brand new owners and they need backing which is nuts to me.
- 1:35You've got to put this all into perspective and think you knew all this coming in but did they?
- 1:42I'm not to understand him.
- 1:44I haven't got a clue.
- 1:45I haven't got the slightest clue.
- 1:46That was a shit show.
- 1:47That's what I will say.
- 1:48That was a shit show.
- 1:49What's just happened there?
- 1:51You've made the manager, you've put him in a weaker position and you're asking him for more.
- 1:55That doesn't make sense.
- 1:57So you're like, you've took away from what he already had
- 2:01And you're asking for more than what you've got and what you've had, which is insane.
- 2:06That just doesn't make sense.
- 2:08That is not sustainable in any way.
- 2:11Because if they keep going with the way they're going, there will be no more effort in Football Club.
- 2:16You can't take away more than you put in.
- 2:19No one's stupid.
- 2:20If you keep taking away, ultimately you'll be left with nothing.
- 2:24And that's got to be addressed.
- 2:25Yeah, I think that's a fair shout because, you know, Kinnear came out in a few interviews and said that TFG weren't happy that we didn't get into European places.
- 2:34So then to then have a window like this and not fully invest in the squad and leave us in a position where we do look like we're lacking depth, these two things don't add up.
- 2:44No, and...
- 2:47I mean, because it's only just...
- 2:48I'm still trying to get my head around it, and as Tony was just trying to find ways to understand.
- 2:53Maybe they didn't know, maybe they didn't understand.
- 2:55Well...
- 2:56If they are good businessmen, then they did know.
- 2:59They knew what they were going into.
- 3:01They'll have done their due diligence.
- 3:03They'd have seen, I think they saw an opportunity to get a club with a new stadium on the cheap in Premier League terms, which it was.
- 3:13Maybe this was always the long-term plan.
- 3:16Maybe it was to get in there, establish ourselves and then ask for financial help from other people.
- 3:22Maybe this is part of the bigger plan, but,
- 3:26they must have known what they're doing.
- 3:27They invested a relatively sane amount for, uh, uh, for taking over a debt, which they did.
- 3:34Uh, and then they got the stadium and then they got the football club and, um, they invested, I think, or at least I think we spent a hundred million roughly in the first real transfer window when we got going.
- 3:46Um, um,
- 3:48But if you're talking about the club, when they joined the club, I think I was looking at the numbers.
- 3:53I think the first season, the final year, I think we lost 50-odd million, I think, as the club, the way it was running.
- 4:01I think the season after, or the next season, if I'm reading the details right, our net losses went all the way down to 8 million.
- 4:108 point something million, which shows the right kind of trend, the right kind of way forward.
- 4:16What we're trying, what they're doing is, is working.
- 4:18And I think that was the last one that came out.
- 4:20So, I mean, I may be wrong.
- 4:22I may be reading the wrong numbers here and the wrong articles, but that doesn't scream to me like,
- 4:30they've come in and they lost more money than they expected to, then they lost more money, and then the year after they lost more money, and now it's panic stations because it's going the wrong way.
- 4:38Actually, the numbers, the club's in a better footing.
- 4:41They're reasonable, yeah.
- 4:43It seems to be in a better position.
- 4:45If you've come in and you're only 18 months, two years into owning a football club, like any single business in the world, you'd expect losses in the first year to 18 months.
- 4:53And they're actually upward trend and losses, if you don't understand what I'm getting at.
- 4:59So the projection is that we're on the right path.
- 5:02So that's to start with, which then worries me.
- 5:05But then you've got all of this financial situation over the transfer window, which is an absolute shambles with regards to how many people we let out regards to bringing in.
- 5:20But we also, we made a profit.
- 5:24I mean, we went into transfer window, as you said, saying we need to strengthen the squad and we need to move forward.
- 5:28We need to give the manager every chance to compete and get us back in Europe and move us up the table and big statements.
- 5:35And then sold our best players and made a profit.
- 5:39Now, this transfer window, Roma spent £100 million, I think it was.
- 5:43They brought in seven players, maybe eight players.
- 5:45They actually brought in a right back.
- 5:47They brought in some experienced centre midfield players.
- 5:50They brought in some attack and talent.
- 5:53They've had a net loss, so to speak, a net spend of £100 million.
- 6:00We've made £20 million.
- 6:01And we're the club that actually need...
- 6:04investment more help and more investment at the moment maybe they'll flip that and say oh Roma have got a chance of winning a title so we put all our eggs in that basket but that shows exactly where we are in the basket
- 6:15if you're owning two clubs.
- 6:16And I said in the last pod that every parent, regardless of whether you want it or not, will secretly have a favourite, whether you want to believe it or not.
- 6:26And I think they've just showed us who the favourite is.
- 6:29Do you think it's possible for an ownership to own two clubs as big as an Everton and a Roma and be able to do it fairly?
- 6:37Or is that just an impossible task?
- 6:39If you've got enough money, you should be able to do it.
- 6:42I mean, if money is limitless, then yeah, you just keep investing in both equally.
- 6:48Because again, I'll go back to kids.
- 6:49If you've got two kids, you don't just, even if one is your favorite, you don't just invest financially in one child and leave the other one out to dry.
- 6:58You treat your kids equally.
- 7:00Whereas I think this transfer window doesn't feel like that.
- 7:03Maybe if we'd have got Balogun over the line, we'd be all thinking it's a little bit different.
- 7:08But you'd still say that, you know, we let out just as much as we got in.
- 7:13We were actually hoping to keep our players.
- 7:15I mean, and I go back again, because we'll sure we'll talk about it.
- 7:20Illuminant I, 60 to 65 million.
- 7:23When I'm looking around the rest of the market...
- 7:27I have no idea.
- 7:28There must be something behind that deal that I don't know or the situation I don't know about.
- 7:34But that's not good business, is it?
- 7:35It's not good business.
- 7:36Spurs are trying to get him for 60, 65.
- 7:38But I'm saying there must be something in a clause.
- 7:40There must be something we're all blinded by and we can't see because he's an £18 million plus player and the only bids we were getting in were 60.
- 7:49Is it us as a club?
- 7:50Because Chelsea tried to nick James Garner off us for 65.
- 7:53And if Elliot Anderson's 110, you're not telling me James Garner's half the player he is.
- 7:57And that's not even a conversation.
- 8:00So is it us as a club?
- 8:01Are we that club that everyone thinks they can shortchange us?
- 8:05And if so, we've got to figure out a way of stopping that.
- 8:07You know what?
- 8:08I think when it comes to the Illumina and Daiwan, I genuinely think we've got Jackie.
- 8:12Listen, we're not paying any of his wages.
- 8:15I think that's the only reasonable thing I can think of with Deleman and Die Money because he's got two or three years left on his contract.
- 8:23He might not have been happy to stay, but he would have stayed and we all know that he would have gone on the pitch and give his all every single week.
- 8:29That's what we do know about him because teams have been after him.
- 8:33I mean, we knew the moment was going to come at some point that he was going to go.
- 8:36So I get it with the Illuminati.
- 8:38The Jimmy Garner one baffles me.
- 8:41Enzo Fernandes goes one way, but it's coming in with 60 odd million.
- 8:44It's just pathetic.
- 8:45I mean, these clubs must think that... Do you know what?
- 8:48Do these clubs... Do they all piss in the same pot and they all know each other's financial position?
- 8:53That's the only thing I can think of here that makes sense.
- 8:55Everybody knows each other's financial position and they're going, we know Everton, they're struggling in FFP here.
- 9:01but boys, we know they need to sell.
- 9:02So let's just truck them a bone.
- 9:04And that's the reason why they come in low for Harrison Armstrong.
- 9:07That's the reason we let Illumina and Dago.
- 9:09And that's the reason they're throwing cheeky bids in for the likes of Jimmy Garner.
- 9:12Because Jimmy Garner is a £120 million player every single day of the week and twice on a Sunday.
- 9:17There's just no getting away from that.
- 9:18That boy is phenomenal.
- 9:20And keeps the ball as good as anyone.
- 9:22I hope it's twice this Sunday.
- 9:24I hope it's ten times this Sunday, to be honest.
- 9:29I kind of understood Chelsea trying to get a midfielder because they were after, obviously having lost Enzo Fernandes, they were after Lemire Kamara from Monaco and that got wrapped up in they needed to sell one of the players and they'd rather sell Balogun to us and when that looked like it was collapsing, that deal...
- 9:48went up and Chelsea thought they were getting him as a cover and then that collapsed.
- 9:51And I mean, the whole thing was absolutely crazy.
- 9:54And I think they just tried to nick Jimmy at the last minute.
- 9:56But I mean, it's ridiculous.
- 10:00That's what worries me about us.
- 10:02You know the way football works though.
- 10:04And I think they obviously hadn't planned for Enzo Fernandes going and that bit coming at the last minute.
- 10:09They obviously gave City the ultimatum.
- 10:12You better be done by this Friday.
- 10:14And this is the one.
- 10:15And they didn't do it.
- 10:16But ultimately...
- 10:17Football is so statistically driven now that if you look at the statistics and over the last season, if you look at Jimmy Garner's stats and his rolling numbers and his passing numbers and all of these things, he is a player who fits the criteria.
- 10:29So I understand why the bid come late because I didn't think they'd foreseen Enzo Fernandes going.
- 10:34But Jimmy Garner fits the bill.
- 10:36It's like when you look at the statistics around Illman and Jai.
- 10:39He fits Man City's criteria 100%.
- 10:42He does the hard miles.
- 10:43He does the running.
- 10:44He does the chasing back.
- 10:45He is creative.
- 10:46He does score goals.
- 10:47He wins you three games.
- 10:48All of these statistics, they get players sold.
- 10:52I just think that's the world we live in now.
- 10:53It's so statistically driven.
- 10:56And these pen pushes and these iPad gurus and these masters of tech, that's where they earn the money because they identify these players.
- 11:07Yeah, but still, Chelsea knew that Enzo Fernandes was more of an 80% to 90% possibility.
- 11:18He was going to go, yes, they put an ultimatum out there, but they knew Chelsea wanted him.
- 11:22They knew Enzo Moresca wanted him.
- 11:24They knew they didn't really want him.
- 11:26And he wasn't even in the last matchday squad.
- 11:29So this is what baffles me about Chelsea,
- 11:33the window in general, everybody always seems to wait.
- 11:37They're always haggling.
- 11:38They're always hoping if they wait till the last minute, they'll get a better deal or someone will pay more or they'll be able to nick something off or whatever reason, you've got the whole summer.
- 11:47So you've got, you know, two months to do these deals, maybe even three months to do these deals.
- 11:51And then you see all of this happening on the, on the last minute.
- 11:54Chelsea,
- 11:55Enzo Fernandez going up there so now they're trying to nick a player so then they're going to Monaco and the knock on effect that that all has every single transfer window if you do your deals and business like that somebody or more than somebody two or three clubs are going to get burnt and this time it's definitely us it's definitely Monaco
- 12:18Chelsea a little bit and if you play with fire you end up getting burned so rather than getting stuff done rather than this happening last week it's a last minute job Chelsea being burned out they've got a squad mate I mean there was less people on Noah's Ark than there is in Chelsea's squad I mean it's just it's ridiculous I mean we've been decimated
- 12:42Do you think our problem is the lack of organisation then?
- 12:46So that we've left that later.
- 12:48Is that the bigger issue than saying they weren't willing to spend money?
- 12:51Because actually, if you look at it, they were trying to get Balogun over the line.
- 12:54Do you think they've just left themselves in a really bad position to the point where they're scrambling?
- 12:58And actually, that's where the real issue lies.
- 13:03It looks like that, doesn't it?
- 13:04I mean, as I say, if you leave it to the last minute, what you're trying to do is hope that the person you're dealing with's desperation is more than yours.
- 13:14So we actually tried to deal with Monaco and we knew Monaco needed to sell.
- 13:17So that makes us think that we can get that done on the cheap.
- 13:21But then obviously it was the player that ended up dying.
- 13:24They're starting the dominoes that they're actually ended up.
- 13:27And we'll get onto that in a minute.
- 13:28But if you wait till the last minute in the hope that you can get a better deal because of the club you're dealing with or people do that to you, and that's why people come to us because maybe we need to spend, then there's a chance it's not going to happen.
- 13:40There's a chance that whatever business you want doing is not going to materialise.
- 13:45And if you're...
- 13:49If you've got plans and you've got ideas of seeing the way that the transfer window's going, it always makes sense if you get in early and do it.
- 13:57It might cost you an extra $5 million.
- 13:59It might cost you an extra little bit of this, but...
- 14:01In money terms, in Premier League terms, $5 billion isn't that much these days.
- 14:07It really isn't.
- 14:09And maybe there's restrictions.
- 14:11And again, we touched on it before.
- 14:12There's trying to sell Arnison Armstrong out the blue, sell an element for the price that he went.
- 14:16Maybe it just seems actually coming out with the way the club's coming and they're actually after investment.
- 14:23Maybe it seems that we couldn't do any business because we needed money off Peter to feed Paul or whatever it is.
- 14:29But...
- 14:31It just doesn't sit right for me, can we not?
- 14:34we're not all know about this a little bit early.
- 14:36Maybe they were keeping, I'm thinking out loud now, because maybe they were trying to keep this information quiet so that nobody tried to take advantage of us.
- 14:44And maybe that's why clubs have took advantage of us in that way.
- 14:48But it just doesn't sit well for our club when we were saying we've now turned the corner.
- 14:53We've got this new stadium.
- 14:54We've got a new manager.
- 14:55We've got new owners who've got all this money to invest in.
- 14:59And I just feel like we've not even took a step back.
- 15:01We've took a leap back.
- 15:03I think it's just a joke.
- 15:05I live my life by a motto.
- 15:06I've even got it tattooed on my arm.
- 15:09And it's fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
- 15:12And you live by the five Ps.
- 15:16Poor preparation prevents poor performance.
- 15:22Simple.
- 15:25and that's where we are no one's prepared nobody's prepared the only person who's prepared here for the season ahead is David Moyes and you know why he's been prepared because he's been asking to strengthen a squad he's been asking and asking telling you what he needs to stop the poor prevention of a poor season and he's told you you haven't given me now you've left a manager you're asking for more
- 15:54than someone's actually got previously.
- 15:57How can you get more out of them when you've got less?
- 15:59That doesn't make sense.
- 16:01If you keep taking away, what are you going to assume?
- 16:04Be left with nothing.
- 16:05Simple as that.
- 16:06That's just the top and bottom of it.
- 16:08And that's what they've done.
- 16:10It's a joke, me.
- 16:10It's just...
- 16:13They are good businessmen.
- 16:14And you just...
- 16:16So I can't give this one up of, oh, well, they didn't know.
- 16:20They did know.
- 16:21They had to know.
- 16:24Because a good businessman is thorough and a good team around and they will have a good team.
- 16:30And I don't get why they're spending so much money at Roma.
- 16:33The Premier League is the best and the most financially efficient league in the world.
- 16:39You're making three times, five times, possibly even ten times more in England than you are in Italy.
- 16:46Why are you spending more in Italy?
- 16:49Our league is worth ten times more than the Italian league.
- 16:52Why are you spending more in Italy?
- 16:54Our league is ten times more important than the Italian league.
- 16:57I'm sorry, the Italian league hasn't been great since someone was screaming, Go Lazio on Channel 4.
- 17:05No one cares anymore.
- 17:07The Italian league is just irrelevant.
- 17:10And I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but it's just the way it is.
- 17:14English football dominates world football.
- 17:16The Premier League is what it's all about.
- 17:18Everyone wants to be here.
- 17:19We've had the best managers ever in this league.
- 17:23You know, it's financially driven.
- 17:26Just what are you... What's going on?
- 17:28But I agree, but...
- 17:30No matter where the clubs are financially, Roma are in Europe and they're potentially challenging for a title this season, albeit outsiders.
- 17:40Apparently, if they would have invested right, they could be outsiders to be in a title race.
- 17:45But financially...
- 17:48I don't know exactly, but there is more potential in the Premier League for earning money than there is anywhere else.
- 17:55That's true.
- 17:56And I don't know this, but I'm sure someone will come in and tell me I'm wrong.
- 18:00But I reckon if you finish second in Serie A, I think you don't get as much money as you might do for finishing fifth in the Premier League.
- 18:09I would even go as far as staying in the top ten.
- 18:12I will go as far as staying in the top ten.
- 18:15So there is potential to earn money for the club by investing in us.
- 18:21And we haven't, and it just seems straight away now, well, we actually haven't got enough money to do that.
- 18:27What we've sort of been saying, we can't quite,
- 18:30make materialise and we need to sell players and then you go and sell... That, Skriona Harrison's your very first option because he's pure profit.
- 18:40So that's the way they see it, pure profit.
- 18:41And again, numbers we brought Illy for 15 to 17, something like that, maybe...
- 18:48And if you think about it, Harrison would have been £40 million, pure profit.
- 18:53We sold Illiman for £60 million with add-ons.
- 18:56That's pretty much close to the £40 million profit we were going to get there.
- 19:00And then James Garner's, I think he was £65 million.
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:03there's pretty much a similar amount there's pretty much a similar amount that's making me start questioning does everyone know we need £40 million?
- 19:11do we need is there a figure that's out there that everyone knows we are £40 million behind PSR or whatever it's called now once again we need someone from the club £40 million off need someone from the club to come out and say we asked for this on the last episode somebody's got to come out from the club and address this situation
- 19:29They've got to.
- 19:30It's got to be done.
- 19:31There's just no two ways about it.
- 19:33We need to know what's going on.
- 19:35Because everyone being silent isn't good.
- 19:38And now you've got this thing coming out about we need investors.
- 19:42What do you mean we need investors?
- 19:44We've only just recently been born.
- 19:45You've only been in control for five minutes and now you need help.
- 19:48I mean this...
- 19:50This feels like a bad nightmare all over again.
- 19:52I feel like Freddy Krueger's gonna come out of the next door.
- 19:56It's like a nightmare, it is.
- 19:59It's not a nightmare now, it's a nightmare coming out of Brown anymore.
- 20:04It's just frightening.
- 20:06I'm so happy we've got the right manager back, but ultimately, he can't do anything if his hands are tied.
- 20:12You're taking away the players that he's got, that he's been doing well with.
- 20:15I mean, we were on for Europe with four games to go, it was in our hands, and it slips.
- 20:20Could you imagine if we'd have got Europe?
- 20:22Could you imagine?
- 20:23Could you imagine?
- 20:24Well, I think that's what they want.
- 20:25I think that's why they came out and acted like they were so furious because it would seem now that despite it being a stretch from where we started at the start of the season, it not being a thought process, I think they've got to a position where they thought, wow, if we get in Europe, this will paper over the cracks that we've got.
- 20:42Suddenly people won't notice.
- 20:43We'll be in Europe and that'll do it.
- 20:47And then the reality hits.
- 20:49We don't get there, although we should.
- 20:51And then it becomes, oh, then your anger comes out.
- 20:54We've nearly been able to pay for all the cracks.
- 20:57You should have been able to do that.
- 20:59But as you said, how are we going to do that with half a squad?
- 21:04One striker?
- 21:06One striker.
- 21:09We must be the only club in the history of world football to have more stadiums than strikers.
- 21:15I don't know what you're going to say.
- 21:16We own more stadiums than we do strikers.
- 21:20Let that sink in.
- 21:22We've got Goodison Park and Hill Dickinson.
- 21:27Where does the book lie here then?
- 21:29Is TFG to blame?
- 21:30Is it poor planning from the people that they employ in the club who make the football decisions of who Moyes is going to sign?
- 21:36I think we're all in the clear that this isn't Moyes, this isn't players.
- 21:39That's obviously completely separate and we're looking good on that side.
- 21:42But is this a TFG problem or is this a CEO ball problem within the club?
- 21:52Because CFG could say we were willing to spend And then we've let people do their jobs And then they've made a hash of it By not bringing in who's meant to come in The honest answer is I don't know right now I mean this is only just all coming out It's yesterday, tonight, this morning Thinking through
- 22:16with regards to the transfers and with it's alright with regards did you hear me statement about the two stadiums bit I already knew it mate absolutely brilliant you only haven't could do it more stadiums than strikers it's fantastic isn't it unbelievable but anyway we're talking we've got more stadiums than left backs we've got more stadiums than right backs than right backs than left backs we've got more stadiums than forwards it's just it's an embarrassment you know you might as well put the chuckle brothers in charge of us
- 22:47Sounds like they are Look That's about the third Decent joke you've made But I'm just not in a laughing place At the minute I just can't I can't bring myself I can't bring myself to laugh I'm not laughing I'm going to cry It's that sad It's ruining my life I'm only two weeks into the season It's ruining my life When we're two weeks into the season I'm not
- 23:08Yeah, so Liam was just asking and I didn't quite know the answer and I was trying to figure it out as I was going.
- 23:15Is this the hierarchy of the club's fault or is this the ownership's fault?
- 23:21Yeah, with the point being... Is that the same thing?
- 23:24Well, no, because TFG could say
- 23:26that we were willing to spend.
- 23:28And then there's people who we've got at the club who are paid to make the decisions of who we bring in.
- 23:33Now, obviously, they're going to be involved in transfer business and in those conversations, but they're not going to be the ones on the phone with Balogun's agents.
- 23:41I wouldn't think so anyway.
- 23:42I might be wrong, but I would think that we've got people in the club who are employed to do that.
- 23:47Definitely.
- 23:48Could TFGs turn around and say, look, we were willing to spend.
- 23:50You could see that we put the money there to get Balogun.
- 23:54But the people in charge of bringing in the right players have actually caused that much of a mess and left it that late that actually this is on them.
- 24:03Right, I think a bit of both.
- 24:04I just haven't had the time to work it through because as much as your CEOs and your people have got the job to do, they are still doing it within the restrictions and the fines of what the ownership are allowing them to do.
- 24:20So, for instance, if the ownership said to...
- 24:25people buying the players, Angus Kinnear, whoever it might be, you've got 150 million, go and get us five players, good luck, report back later, then that's easy.
- 24:34But if they're saying, right, we need you to get, if their message to him and his working mandate through this situation is, we want you to buy at least five players, a full, right back, a striker, but we've actually only got
- 24:49In fact, no, you're going to have to make money while you do it.
- 24:51So you're going to have to sell our players to make that money, but make sure you buy these five players.
- 24:56If that's the story coming out, then wow, you're hoping you've got Adele boy on your hand who's an amazing wheel and a dealer.
- 25:04So it depends on the messages from the top, but
- 25:09when you're going and leaving it all to the last day, when things go against you, when you are the team getting burnt, I mean, this may have happened and Ballingham gets done and we all say, oh, that was great and it all worked out great.
- 25:21But the fact that we were the team to get burnt, there is obvious uproar.
- 25:25There is obviously people at fault, at blame.
- 25:29People didn't get done.
- 25:30And that's even before we got on to the actual, what the player decided to do.
- 25:35So...
- 25:36It depends on the messages from the top, but the messages from the top seem like we need to make money as we're trying to improve our squad, which is for even a CEO.
- 25:45I'm happy you're liking this to Del Boy and Only Fools because it was Rodney and Dave who've been working and Del Boy was telling them off trying to get them to do what he wanted them to do.
- 25:57And Rodney and Dave took over the plans.
- 25:59That's exactly what's happened.
- 26:00So how many brushes did we sell?
- 26:03We've had the same brush for 20 years, 14 handles and 16 new heads.
- 26:10That's it.
- 26:12That's it.
- 26:14That's it.
- 26:14That's what's happened.
- 26:16It's ridiculous.
- 26:17And it's worrying.
- 26:18It's petrifying to me.
- 26:20It could be the end of the football club.
- 26:22Because if you keep going with this, like what you're doing is you're taking away our assets slowly but surely and just not replacing them.
- 26:31And I don't want to hear of like, oh, well, we've got Illumina and Jai and we've got Jack Eilish.
- 26:36No, no, no, stop.
- 26:38Five players have gone out the door.
- 26:40Five players who were in and amongst the first team.
- 26:44And what have we got back?
- 26:45Two, three taps.
- 26:50The numbers just don't lie.
- 26:51It feels to me, personal opinion, that it just feels like poor planning.
- 26:56Yeah.
- 26:57It looks throughout the window that they were willing to spend.
- 26:59And the reports that came out across the window, it seemed like they knew what priorities they had.
- 27:05They just didn't go out and do it.
- 27:07And I'm not sure whose responsibility it was to get these deals over the line, whether it was CFG, whether it's the board, whether it's whoever.
- 27:14But I think it's unforgivable that we've got to this point now and we are the club that has been because we should have been a club that was, you know, our goal over the last two years has been stability.
- 27:23We've all said that a million times.
- 27:25So now to turn around and be in this position where we actually look a lot more unstable than what we were is not right.
- 27:31It just shows that, you know, we were quite loud and criticised a little bit for saying, when people were saying, let's change manager now, let's go and get a manager that can make us win, let's go get a manager that...
- 27:42And we were saying we need at least one more year to actually prove this stability.
- 27:47And this shows we weren't ready.
- 27:49We're not ready for that.
- 27:51We are far from stable at the moment.
- 27:54So I would say it's good that we've got a manager that, whether you like his football or not, whether you believe him or not, knows how to get Premier League results.
- 28:03But it also makes me realise, I mean, that press conference last week, and we spoke about it when he basically said, the questions were asked about people coming in and going, money within the club, things working in the background, all of the above.
- 28:18And he struggled to answer it, David Moyes, but then said, the one message I tell you is his,
- 28:25I'm an Evertonian.
- 28:27And we all understood that.
- 28:28That he's tried his best forever.
- 28:30And he's got his best interest.
- 28:31He's trying to maybe let the non-businessman people know.
- 28:37that there is an Evertonian voice in there somewhere.
- 28:43And he said it through a bit of anguish, it seemed, a bit of pain, a bit of tiredness even, of maybe having the same fight.
- 28:50But it shows that the club is far from stable at the moment.
- 28:55And this transfer window and the players going out, and as Tony said, five players out.
- 29:00And then three of them might have been fringe, as new.
- 29:03Yes, he was a left-back.
- 29:04He didn't play last season.
- 29:06He accepted like a cup game and something.
- 29:08So he made a bit of a place.
- 29:11Probably did need a little bit of loan.
- 29:13So I kind of understood the Asnew one.
- 29:16I understood that move.
- 29:18He needs a bit more physicality.
- 29:19He needs to go play regular football.
- 29:22Patterson was never getting a game, and I didn't think he was capable of playing, despite what other people's opinion might be.
- 29:29Mine is that he wasn't quite to the standard.
- 29:32So I understood those two.
- 29:34Irabunum, okay, maybe we had a few midfielders, but I still would have kept him, because he could play either full-back as well.
- 29:42He's played right back.
- 29:43He's covered there.
- 29:44He can do...
- 29:45a good all-round job.
- 29:48Illiman and Dye, Jesus, didn't want him to go.
- 29:52If he is forcing his way out the club, which I didn't think he forced his way out, but if he did, it had to be for a lot more money.
- 29:59It really, really did.
- 30:01It had to be for a lot more money.
- 30:03And then Beto, who...
- 30:06We cannot sell until... We can't be that team that sells thinking, it's fine, we've got one coming.
- 30:12Most of the teams, like... Well, most of the teams, they will let one player go once they get the next one in.
- 30:18That's the way the dominoes work.
- 30:20We can't let him go.
- 30:22until we've got a player.
- 30:25I didn't think the price was bad.
- 30:26I didn't think the thought of letting him go if we're getting another striker in was the wrong idea.
- 30:31But we cannot let him go until...
- 30:34So two of them I understood.
- 30:35Two of them I was against.
- 30:36And one of them was just poor.
- 30:39Do you know he was having soft scoring last season?
- 30:41Yeah, he was.
- 30:42Beto, yeah.
- 30:43Do you know we've just lost 17 goals?
- 30:44I think we scored 47 goals last season we scored.
- 30:48Do you know between Illiman and Beto, that's 17 gone?
- 30:52I didn't realise it was as high as that Yeah, because I don't think as much as Jack will bring chances I don't think Jack brings goals He's not a goal scorer Illy didn't score loads last season I loved Illy and wanted him to stay But he didn't actually score a lot of goals Not badly, it's what he gives you It's what he gives you going backwards, going forwards It's what he creates Yeah, I totally agree And that's what Manchester City are going to see in Illy and Menendie
- 31:20The more Illumina Dye plays at City, the more people go, oh, wow, oh, really, he was that good.
- 31:27I think he will shine brightly there, but it's just worrying, mate.
- 31:31If he brings them end product, that's the one thing he didn't do enough.
- 31:34The worry he's trying to give end product to us, I think.
- 31:38Yeah, maybe, yeah.
- 31:40Plays it through to Erling scoring goals, isn't he?
- 31:43You keep putting in the Viking, it's over.
- 31:47Trust me, because he's the best number nine I think I've ever seen in my life.
- 31:52He's frightening.
- 31:54And Illiman and Dye will just create, create, create.
- 31:56He will win you free kicks.
- 31:57He will win you penalties.
- 31:59Tricky, quick.
- 32:01I will say he'll enjoy playing there.
- 32:04Playing in the same team as Foden and Cherky.
- 32:08Yeah.
- 32:08Cherky one on each side.
- 32:10And then you haven't even got Dockle on the picture.
- 32:12No.
- 32:13No.
- 32:14They've just signed a new winger, Alan, from Palmeiras as well.
- 32:19I mean, they have... How many did he once could he get, as usual?
- 32:23We were talking about Chelsea being the greatest rivals and City having a drop, especially if Rodri left.
- 32:31That was my thought.
- 32:32But, wow, talk about buying your way back into the title race.
- 32:36And, again, coming back to that, making the point is...
- 32:39We're always up against it.
- 32:40Us, Villa, Newcastle.
- 32:42We wouldn't be able to spend that much money.
- 32:44I don't know how Tottenham still can.
- 32:46But because they did it at the start, Chelsea, Man City have bought their long-term success.
- 32:55Now, no one else is in a position to be able to invest and do it.
- 32:58So owners who see the opportunity to buy in Everton now are thinking,
- 33:03There's always going to be a limit to what we can do and what we can achieve and what we can spend until they change the rules.
- 33:09There's always going to be a cap.
- 33:12And if I can only invest money to a certain point and there's always a cap of where we can go, maybe that's not really worth it.
- 33:19Maybe that's not for me.
- 33:20Because the likes of, obviously, Liverpool, City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal...
- 33:26They can kind of spend what they want.
- 33:27And I saw the graph of the other day.
- 33:29I don't know.
- 33:30Did I take a picture of it?
- 33:31The other day of how much teams have spent since the Premier League started.
- 33:36And Chelsea have spent £2 billion.
- 33:40Yeah, it did, yeah.
- 33:41Chelsea have spent £3.83 billion on players.
- 33:46since the Premier League started.
- 33:47Michael spent a billion on his own and Arsenal.
- 33:49Michael spent a billion.
- 33:50Man City have spent 3.21 billion on players since the Premier League started in 92-93.
- 33:57How much have the side spent?
- 33:59United have spent 2.66 billion and Liverpool have also, it says here, spent 2.66 billion.
- 34:05And then numbers might be slightly wrong.
- 34:07I'm not saying they're exact, but apparently they're the top four spenders in the Premier League era.
- 34:12Now, Man United and Liverpool are historical...
- 34:15historical teams in that sense.
- 34:17But City and Chelsea have bought their way into success.
- 34:21They don't have the long-term, older success that generated the revenue.
- 34:26Those two got in and spent their money at the right time.
- 34:28Maybe Chelsea did it.
- 34:30Maybe they both did it wrong, but they both did it under the radar.
- 34:33And now no one else, they've basically cut that loophole off and no one else can do it.
- 34:37And now that's one of the reasons why we struggle.
- 34:40It's a big can of worms, though.
- 34:41It's a can of worms, isn't it?
- 34:42Because...
- 34:44I totally think that, I don't know how you would change the rules to make sure that every team has a fighting chance to try and do that based on how much money they bring in and whatnot.
- 34:51But if football continues to go in this way, where then Aston Villa can spend what they want, Newcastle can spend what they want, Tottenham can spend what they want, Everton can spend what they want, transfer prices then go sky high.
- 35:01Everyone starts buying people for £120 million.
- 35:04In sort of financial terms, there's going to be a time when that balloon pops because the amount of money that is being spent...
- 35:11in football it's not sustainable so is this just the way the football is inevitably going no do you know what the way is do you know what the way do you know the best way to do it is spend what you want take the hit next season you'll be sad
- 35:22Because if you spend what you want and get the job done, you're not going to get relegated.
- 35:25You're going to have enough points to be able to take the hit.
- 35:28I mean, it doesn't matter.
- 35:29Whoever spends it, they're just going to deduct Everton 10 points anyway.
- 35:32So we might as well just do it.
- 35:34Nottingham Forest spent, when they came up, they spent a lot of money, took a points deduction the next season, but got enough points with the players they'd bought to stay up.
- 35:44Ipswich might be having a go at it now.
- 35:46I didn't know if they did, but Ipswich has spent well over £100 million.
- 35:49Should have been?
- 35:50this year and on one player now brings me back to them I'm glad I remembered that on one player I probably would have had a look at they've just spent £20 million on Zayam Fleming Zayam Fleming from Burnley right he scored 12 goals in the Premier League for them last year I think it was 12 in the Premier League for them last year more than any of our strikers scored and he's played for Burnley
- 36:10And from what I saw from his game, I thought it was all right.
- 36:13And that was £20 million.
- 36:14For a striker, that's a drop of hat.
- 36:16How old was yours?
- 36:1920, mid to late 20s.
- 36:20All day.
- 36:22All day.
- 36:23But still got time ahead of him.
- 36:26So just when we think there's no business out there, I thought that would have been...
- 36:31I'd have been one to have a look at.
- 36:33He holds the ball up well.
- 36:35He's not a top of the Premier League striker by any stretch of the imagination.
- 36:37Checking your goals though.
- 36:39But he's going to get your goals and he can hold the ball up and he runs the channels and he's technically okay.
- 36:45What we can all agree on is he's more of a sure thing than Balogun would have been coming into the Premier League.
- 36:53Because he's proven.
- 36:53He's Premier League proven.
- 36:55So that's what you've got to just say.
- 36:56Quite simply, he's more proven than Balogun.
- 36:58And if you're willing to take a 50 million risk on someone who hasn't played in the Premier League yet, why aren't you willing to go and throw 20 million quid at this fella?
- 37:06Who scores, like you said, 12 goals.
- 37:08That's the exact same way as people listening will get wrapped up in the sense of... That's why...
- 37:16Johnny, sorry, David Moisinho would be, sounds like a great manager, but David Moyes sounds like a terrible manager.
- 37:24Just the foreign uncertainty and unknown always makes managers, oh, we've never heard of him.
- 37:32Who's he manager?
- 37:32Oh, he must be great.
- 37:34So, for instance, Pierre Sarge and Marco Roser have come in this year.
- 37:41And Yassler, Yassler for Newcastle.
- 37:46They've come in, haven't done well for other clubs.
- 37:48They better all be brilliant then.
- 37:51Just worry, I say worries me.
- 37:52I mean, as soon as he, an American, comes into the Premier League, I'm not going to lie, I'm worried.
- 37:57Because, you know, who was teaching him to play football?
- 38:01I mean, what has he learned in high school?
- 38:03He grew up at Arsenal, though.
- 38:05Sorry, he came through at Arsenal.
- 38:07He's classed as a homegrown player.
- 38:10and we've had some success with Americans down the years we have Brian McBride Joe Max Tim Howard Landon Donovan Tim Howard we've had as much success as anyone Tim Howard's the best one but you've got to understand he's using his hands and he's a goalkeeper
- 38:26Yeah, he played basketball all his life.
- 38:28Do you know what I'm saying?
- 38:29He's not going to drop the ball, is he, at the end of the day?
- 38:31And he's going to keep it out.
- 38:33He was too short to play wide receiver, so he became a goalie.
- 38:37That kind of thing.
- 38:39It's just worrying, mate, as I said.
- 38:41This should have been...
- 38:42There's so many, and then now you're looking at the free market now, and I don't know much about this.
- 38:46I'm sure you'll know more, but the likes of...
- 38:50Jamie Vardy are in there Karim Benzema is in there I mean what do you do now because you're in a position where you have to get someone through the door like I'm sorry but you've you've got to like I was no one looking at Callum Wilson
- 39:06I was no, I mean, they're going on Tammy Abraham and stuff like that.
- 39:10And Alan Wilson's just signed for... Brentford?
- 39:14He's at Brentford, yeah.
- 39:15But he went to the earlier.
- 39:16He just signed for Brentford this summer.
- 39:18Yeah.
- 39:18And why was no one just loving him as a quick fix?
- 39:20For a free.
- 39:20I'm not saying he's the permanent thing to do, but, you know, and sign someone who just scores against Defton.
- 39:26Because if I swear to God, if I see that fella walk on the pitch when we play them, I'm running at him.
- 39:31I'm tackling him before he gets on the pitch.
- 39:33Because I can't take any more of him coming to Goodison or coming to Dickinson.
- 39:37That fella just loves to score against Devon.
- 39:39So just if you can't beat them, join them.
- 39:42So what your transfer policy is, basically, is which of the strikers out there that love to score against Everton, let's sign them so they can't do that anymore.
- 39:52Yeah.
- 39:52So let's go and get Haaland.
- 39:53Let's go and get it.
- 39:54Let's just get them all.
- 39:56If everyone scores against Everton, I don't know.
- 39:58I'm just so beaten up by it all.
- 40:01It's just so disappointing.
- 40:02And I felt great yesterday, but now I just feel so low thinking about what's ahead.
- 40:10because I was hoping someone would have come out with an explanation to explain why what's being done has been done.
- 40:16Before we move into the team ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester United, what do you actually then think is the answer now to see from the club in light of all this?
- 40:28They've got to let people know what's going on.
- 40:30You know, you've got people...
- 40:32who make the flags or the Tfimo whatever the cold going we're not doing it no more we spend a lot of our hard earned time and a lot of our hard earned money trying to provide things that pick the club and lift the spirits to the ground then you've got other people putting in you know we can't spend in the club very few people I'm not going to lie very few are going to listen to them
- 40:51You know, but there will be a part that does listen to them and they will find a way of getting to them.
- 40:58But ultimately, this can all be stopped and put to bed.
- 41:01If someone at the club just comes out and tells us what's going on, because we're all big enough and ugly enough to deal with it and accept it.
- 41:09But if you give us the facts and say, you know what, guys?
- 41:12we're adhering to financial fair play, we're behind him, we had to get money in, you know, we thought the best way possible was to sell the youngest player who we didn't think was playing enough, that's why we agreed to sell him, we wanted to keep Illumina and Die, but he's not signed a contract, so we've got to let him go, you know, before we lose more value in him, and I'm just saying things randomly, off the top of my head, he's trying to help people out, I don't know,
- 41:34I haven't got a clue.
- 41:35I'm the same person as everyone else.
- 41:36I'm paying season ticket all day.
- 41:39I ain't got a clue.
- 41:40And, you know, so I don't know any more than anyone else and all else I ever get on my social media is abuse going, ah, he's Mr. Freebie, Mr.
- 41:47Dark, because he's Bill's mate.
- 41:50I'm sorry to inform you all, but,
- 41:52couldn't give a shit about any freebie ticket or anything like that.
- 41:57I turn up at the match, I pay for my season ticket every year, and have done for many years, and I go as a fan.
- 42:03I don't know anything more, anything less.
- 42:06It is what it is.
- 42:07And...
- 42:08I'm coming out and saying it because I'm a passionate fan because that's all as I am and we need an explanation exactly we're all the same we're all in the same boat whether we're in the media whether we know people at the club we're all still in the same boat because no one's speaking to the owners I mean they haven't even been to the ground yet and I believe this weekend's going to be the first time they've ever been to the ground
- 42:28I'd be surprised if they still come.
- 42:29I was going to say, retreat.
- 42:32So you're here, but it would be fitting if it was this week, because then we can get some of the answers that we just need.
- 42:39Because if we don't get answers this weekend, it's not going to be a nice atmosphere at the Hill Dickinson.
- 42:45That's as simple as that.
- 42:47It'd be a stronger stance if they did come, actually, and say that we're happy to own our mistakes and say what they were or not say what they were and just say, we've made mistakes.
- 42:56But if they come on and say something.
- 42:58We still want to invest in this club.
- 43:00But if they come out and say something, maybe it's not mistakes.
- 43:02If they come out and just tell us the truth, maybe it's not mistakes.
- 43:05Maybe there's reasons why they've had to do what they've done.
- 43:07Ozzy might be spot on with how they've had to balance the books.
- 43:10But if you're not telling us, it's all cloak and dagger, no one knows.
- 43:14So just tell us the harsh truth.
- 43:17Like I've just said before, we're all big enough and ugly enough.
- 43:19And believe you me, mate, we're all...
- 43:23mentally strong enough to take whatever you tell us because we've been through that much at our football club we can take anything so just tell us the truth it's not you don't think anymore i don't think they're coming sunday and the reason i'll say that is just this morning uh i got asked if i wouldn't if i would like to sit and watch the game in the boardroom which
- 43:47They're going to let you know.
- 43:49Which, first of all, I was like, oh my God, what an opportunity that is to sit on a boardroom and watch the game.
- 43:53And then I was like, oh my God.
- 43:57That's going to be...
- 43:58I might be so abusive at the boardroom.
- 44:01I'm going to say, yeah.
- 44:02I'm not sure I want to... You'll be standing there and they'll be like...
- 44:05It's Aussies, falsies and cahoots.
- 44:08Aussie looks great with his flat cap on.
- 44:09Believe you, he'll have that flat cap on this week.
- 44:12I'm not turning it down.
- 44:13I usually use the season tickets when I can go to the game that I have with the kids, as you were just saying.
- 44:18But I think I'm going to go and see what happens.
- 44:20But I've only just been asked to be empty.
- 44:24So that tells me that there are suddenly seats available that...
- 44:28that weren't supposed to be available that weren't going to be available because I've only just been asked so I'll be going I'll be having a few glasses of wine get me into my very talkative asking questions position and see how I go see how I go from there but just thank you just before we move on to the game now I want to talk quickly about I want to know when you talk about how you want things to come out
- 44:54I want to know the insides from our club about the Balogun situation and how it materialised and what the club steps were.
- 45:07Because at the minute, I think the club are getting a bit of criticism because he was in the door and...
- 45:15And then they said he's not past his medical and they're asking a few questions and the deal was getting renegotiated, whatever.
- 45:20Personal terms didn't change.
- 45:22And then the player turned around and walked away.
- 45:24And everybody's blaming Everton for that.
- 45:25And the other situation can be, you know, a player's now thinking, do you like me?
- 45:30Do you not want me?
- 45:31They went for Xerxes.
- 45:32They went for Xerxes and the other fella because literally it looked like the Balogun deal's falling down.
- 45:37If I'm a player and I'm nearly getting this deal done...
- 45:43no one's blaming the player.
- 45:44I'm blaming the player.
- 45:45At the very last minute, once we've actually passed your medical now, we're ready to go, he's now turned around and said, oh, you didn't love me enough.
- 45:52You didn't show me enough.
- 45:54I mean, come on.
- 45:55I know this generation are different from our generation, but come on.
- 45:59Do you just think that's soft?
- 46:01Well, I just think that,
- 46:03A club has every right to go and find out the ins and outs.
- 46:06Now, I'm hearing rumours that it was...
- 46:09Some people are trying to say it was just to get the price down.
- 46:12I don't agree with that.
- 46:14There's another side I've sort of read somewhere that Balogun...
- 46:19hasn't actually trained much since the World Cup because Everton were asking for show me I know you're saying he's not quite ready to play but show me his data show me the fitness show me the running that he's been doing to show that he's fit and they've said oh we haven't got any we haven't got any data at all we haven't got any data on any of the fitness work he's doing which now it says to me hang on so he's not done anything so is he is he injured
- 46:41And it's, oh, no, he's not injured, but he's just not done anything since the World Cup.
- 46:45And now you're like, oh, well, hang on, that's raising a few alarm bells.
- 46:48In which case, well, now we need to do more tests.
- 46:50And hang on.
- 46:51So he's not fit.
- 46:51And now we're not sure.
- 46:53So if someone turns up without all of their data, which this is a world of data these days.
- 46:57If someone turns up without any data like that, my alarm bells are starting to ring.
- 47:01So the club have got every right to try and sort all that.
- 47:04And once they do, and then you're like, okay, they still said, right, we're still prepared to sign the deal.
- 47:10And he then turned around at the last minute and went, no, you just didn't love me enough.
- 47:15I'm going back there, which killed Everton, killed Monaco, killed Chelsea.
- 47:19But I think that is just such...
- 47:21throwing the toys out the pram situation where you just didn't shower me with love to start with.
- 47:26You didn't do this, you didn't do that, you didn't do the other.
- 47:28I expected to be signing for, because after the summer in the World Cup, he expected to be signing for Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea.
- 47:35He expected to be getting a... Yeah, he was like the American sweetheart.
- 47:40His stock was high to the point he thought he was going to sign at one of the big clubs across Europe.
- 47:46Yeah, so I think his ego's took a hit for that.
- 47:49Then he's come in and he thinks that we're not loving him as much and he spat his dummy out.
- 47:53I think it's...
- 47:55Is he nervous that people were going to find out his medical records and that actually he's got some injuries there?
- 48:01Exactly.
- 48:01I don't know, but I would like, we haven't really heard both sides.
- 48:05I'd like the club to come out and say, look, this is what happened.
- 48:09And whether the club are then right or wrong, I'll make a new decision off that.
- 48:13But at the minute, I've not heard enough.
- 48:15Does it matter?
- 48:15And I don't like what I've seen.
- 48:17Does it matter though?
- 48:18We haven't got them, so does it matter?
- 48:21Well, the club are under a lot of criticism, scrutiny at the minute.
- 48:25And if they've done what I've just said, then...
- 48:29Would the club be wrong for wanting a little bit of more data and a little bit more understanding?
- 48:32And then still saying, okay, we're okay with that.
- 48:36Now let's sign.
- 48:38Not every agreement, not every situation goes smoothly.
- 48:43I'd still expect a player to go, but I'm fit and I'm fine.
- 48:45Don't worry, I'm going to have a great time here.
- 48:47I'm going to come here and score goals here.
- 48:48Because when I go back to Monaco, I'm not really going to do much.
- 48:51I'm probably going to sit on a bench.
- 48:52I'm going to come here and score goals.
- 48:53I'm in the Premier League.
- 48:55you'd have that attitude, wouldn't you?
- 48:57Why would you have that?
- 48:57Well, if you don't love me, I'm going to go home and sit on my couch on a Saturday.
- 49:01I get that, but it just comes down to the same thing I said before.
- 49:04I said it.
- 49:06Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
- 49:07You should have had backups.
- 49:09All your eggs can't be in one basket, especially when you're dealing at the 12th hour.
- 49:13I suppose I'm saying that we should have known that data or requested that data a couple of days ago, yeah.
- 49:22Last week?
- 49:22If you know he's the target.
- 49:24A couple of days ago.
- 49:24But I still think the club should come out and let me know their version of what happened.
- 49:30I really want to know.
- 49:31They've got to let us know a lot more than that Balogun deal.
- 49:33They've got to let us know just what's going on.
- 49:35We also need to know why he'd accepted 40 million by Harrison Armstrong our best youngster in a decade.
- 49:40You've got to let us know why.
- 49:43You've got to let us know why a club's offering 65 million for Jimmy Garner.
- 49:46Is there a reason?
- 49:48Because he's a 125 million pound player.
- 49:50Because whatever Anderson is, that's what Jimmy Garner is.
- 49:55I don't care what... Because Jimmy Garner's been exceptional.
- 49:58Jimmy Garner's been brilliant.
- 49:59Been called up to the England team while playing for Everton.
- 50:01That tells you everything you need to know.
- 50:03Look at how powerful and strong the England squad is.
- 50:05Jimmy Garner got called up to that England squad.
- 50:08The proof is in the pudding.
- 50:09Why are they offing 65 million?
- 50:11Thankfully, he plays everywhere for us because he's going to have to play everywhere for us in the next few months.
- 50:16So what did you think about the actual players we got in, though?
- 50:21What do you think of Ainsley Maitland-Niles as a right-back?
- 50:25Proper player.
- 50:25I'm not sure.
- 50:27So the stories have been told, and this is from a couple of Arsenal fans who are now is,
- 50:33He's actually a brilliant right back, but doesn't like playing right back.
- 50:37He doesn't like playing there.
- 50:38Have you seen the clip?
- 50:40I haven't seen the clip.
- 50:42He's not mates with Jake O'Brien, is he?
- 50:46But the first thing that comes to mind is, I'm sure, and this is one thing I will say, there's nobody who's coming into that football club who hasn't spoken to the gaffer.
- 50:56And I'm pretty sure he will have laid down the rules before getting him into that dressing room and going, listen here, son, I need you to play where I ask you to play.
- 51:04Can you do it for me?
- 51:06I'm pretty sure that will have happened.
- 51:08He knows he's coming as a right back.
- 51:10So he knows what he's coming for.
- 51:11And listen, he might be a brilliant fan, whatever it is, but I remember him at Arsenal first coming to the scene and thinking, oh, you're a player.
- 51:18And if he was going to play there, he's still a player now, in my opinion.
- 51:22So I'm really hopeful on that one.
- 51:25I don't know if he's as defensively solid as Moyes would have liked, or we will like, but he's comfortable playing right back.
- 51:31He knows the positions to covers.
- 51:32He gets up and down.
- 51:33His output's decent, going up and down.
- 51:37so and he can actually play multiple positions which Moisey likes because he could play left back he could go over and play left back if you need him to he'd be comfortable enough doing that so that's especially the price 4.2 million for a player these days Argan 4.2 million poof
- 51:55Not only what he is, is that they want him out.
- 51:57How does he fit in the dressing room?
- 51:59But then it goes back to the original point that I just said.
- 52:01I'm pretty sure the manager will have spoken.
- 52:03He'll have spoken to anyone he's bringing into that dressing room.
- 52:07That's one thing I would guarantee.
- 52:09He's spoken to the players he's brought in or the players that have been brought in.
- 52:12He's been able to speak to them first.
- 52:15Yeah.
- 52:17And what about Jack?
- 52:18Jack's back.
- 52:19Sorry, Liam, do you want us to talk something else first?
- 52:21Days.
- 52:22No, I was just going to say, I was going to put Jack in the same conversation actually and say Maitland, Niles and Grealish, do they go straight into the starting XI on Saturday?
- 52:31Are we in that much of a position now where we don't have to definitely go in and perform?
- 52:36I think Jack does.
- 52:40I think Jack probably does because we had Illum in the last game playing off the right and George playing off the left it just worries me about George's Tarek George's sort of limited opportunities if he's now fighting because Jack and him both only play on the left but you need a little bit of experience if we start with we could start with Tarek George on the left and Brennan Johnson on the right potentially because you'd get an uproar if you brought Jack on later in the game
- 53:08But I just think that a little bit more now, so I think you probably start with them.
- 53:11Honestly.
- 53:12I don't think you start with Maitland-Niles.
- 53:14I think Merlin Roll's done enough in the last few games to not be dropped, so to speak, straight away.
- 53:20So that's the way I'd do that.
- 53:22How did you feel?
- 53:23I'll come back to Jack.
- 53:25How did you feel about the way the club dropped the donut thing?
- 53:31to announce he was signing right in the middle of everything that was going on.
- 53:36That was crazy.
- 53:37So, what on earth are you doing?
- 53:40Do you know what my cop I made stupid sense was the Everton person who's in charge of social accounts is absolute gold.
- 53:48He's got to be a Liverpool fan.
- 53:51he's just brilliant and I just thought and I know the person he's a boss fella he's a mad at a Tony but yeah oh my god you couldn't write it you couldn't write that honestly of all the things to put at the time you put it just the time that gets rough I mean he'll have been thinking he'll have been thinking that up for ages you know and you've got a good idea socially now if everything had gone great that would have been a great post yeah we bought enough doughnuts yeah it would have been a good tongue and cheek joke but
- 54:20But in the sense of the room, know what's happening, know when you're dropping jokes.
- 54:27I mean, he could have kept it up his sleeve and dropped it next month when you're doing an interview with Jack.
- 54:31He could have started an interview with it.
- 54:32The idea just needed to be put on hold, man.
- 54:36Yeah, for sure.
- 54:37Just went too soon.
- 54:39Story of my life.
- 54:41Yeah.
- 54:43Well, behind the donuts was Jack Grealish.
- 54:45So we're looking at Saturday.
- 54:48I think I would start him.
- 54:49Sunday, sorry.
- 54:50I would start him.
- 54:52I think the crowd need a bit of a lift.
- 54:54And I think Jack is that person to give us a. Yeah, he can be.
- 55:01And he'll certainly take the ball.
- 55:02And I think it's going to be a tough game.
- 55:04We need somebody who's going to hold the ball up.
- 55:06I wonder how long he can play.
- 55:10he looks in great shape he does and he's had a good pre-season and he's come on he's come on for City in the first game so he's he's fit in terms of preparation needs game time so you wonder how many minutes he can play yeah I might start because it's
- 55:29there's going to be a lot of anger and animosity within the stadium that could be abated.
- 55:36If we start the game, well, if we start well and we go a goal up, then does that mean, um, sort of relaxed, chilled out a little bit, sort of avoided, um, you know, sort of that kind of thing.
- 55:50If we, um, just go start the game quickly and go a goal ahead.
- 55:56Whereas if we,
- 55:58play rubbish to start with, go a goal behind, that is going to be a tough place to play.
- 56:05Whereas if we start the game well, get in the front foot, score a goal, take the game to them, be aggressive, tackles in everywhere, everyone can take their aggression out on tackles, then I think it could be a great game to be honest.
- 56:18I think one thing we've all got to agree is
- 56:21we're so lucky we've got this man in charge because if anyone's going to get a tune out of this lot now it's going to be him if anyone's going to box against the walls we've got to fight for each other there's 14 of us here it's him it's David Moyes Are you working on a security job for Moyes at the minute?
- 56:39I feel like you're trying to build yourself up to be his minder for the next five or ten years I think
- 56:45He's going to need it.
- 56:46He's going to need it.
- 56:47We're going to end up with a mixture of... Keno's going to have to play up front.
- 56:52Tariq George is going to have to play up front.
- 56:54Oh, come on, mate.
- 56:55We can't be from a centre-half up front.
- 56:58I'll stop it.
- 57:01What if Barry's injured?
- 57:02What if he gets injured for a month?
- 57:04I'm not, because we'd be the laughingstock.
- 57:05We can't stick a centre-half.
- 57:07I love Keno, and I'll tell you what... No, I'm not going to say it, but...
- 57:12You can't put a centre-half up front, Os.
- 57:14Can you imagine what that's going to do for everyone's self-confidence?
- 57:17Yeah, but everybody knows within the club, this is literally all we've got.
- 57:21Because you've got, okay, people will say, well, give the young lad Braden Graham a chance because he's banging goals in at your team level and 21's level.
- 57:28Yeah, I can't do that.
- 57:29Just get a centre-half up front, Os.
- 57:30No, but the problem with that...
- 57:32I get you, but the problem with that, because he's scoring goals, there's an expectation that Braden Green could come in and do it.
- 57:38And I hope an opportunity comes to see nothing better than a young kid stepping up and scoring goals.
- 57:43But he doesn't play centre-forward for the team because he's not physically big enough to handle it.
- 57:46He plays off the left.
- 57:48And you're now saying that we'll just come in and play him up front.
- 57:50And Chunkino goes up front and scores a brace.
- 57:52And then you've got to start him next game against Arsenal.
- 57:55I mean, you can't do that.
- 57:59I mean, just can't book him off front and he's up against Gabriel Saliba.
- 58:02A centre-half up against centre-halves.
- 58:05Best finisher at the club, mate.
- 58:06Best finisher at the club.
- 58:07I know, I agree.
- 58:08Well, I shouldn't have said that, but yeah, he is.
- 58:09He's brilliant.
- 58:10He's finished.
- 58:11He's gold.
- 58:12And he's scored some world.
- 58:13I know, but I thought he does the same.
- 58:15What are you doing?
- 58:16Stick him up the top as well.
- 58:17Flick it on.
- 58:18Run the channels.
- 58:19Get in the box.
- 58:20That's all I'm asking for you, big man.
- 58:20Run the channels as if he's catching and he left all night back.
- 58:23Big Fergie made a career of it.
- 58:25Oh, stop it.
- 58:26Hold the ball up, lay it off.
- 58:28Hold the ball up, lay it off.
- 58:29Get in the box, big man.
- 58:30No, yeah, next time I might as well.
- 58:31We might as well just put Tarky on him up top then and just play Jake and that.
- 58:35I'll tell you this, though.
- 58:36I'll tell you this, though, right?
- 58:38Back in the 90s, and probably even before that, but my proper stint of watching football was late 80s, early 90s.
- 58:45That was quite a normal thing to do.
- 58:47Chris Sutton started off as a centre-half, became one of the top-scoring Premier League centre-forwards.
- 58:522026, Leon.
- 58:54Dion Dublin started as a centre-half before he went up front.
- 58:56Oh, mate, come on.
- 58:57I'm telling you, it's a thing.
- 59:0020-26.
- 59:01Okay, let's just go 4-4-2.
- 59:03And up top is James Tarkovsky and Michael Keane.
- 59:08Oh, they'd be tough to deal with, though.
- 59:10We'd have Brantwight and Jake O'Brien at the back.
- 59:14Tarky and Keane are up front.
- 59:16Oh, imagine us set pieces.
- 59:18Imagine us at set pieces.
- 59:19Yeah.
- 59:20This is the misery of being an Everton fan that we've got.
- 59:22The conversation has led to this.
- 59:24This is what it's done to us.
- 59:25Our forwards are Jared Brown.
- 59:27Our forwards now are James Tarkovsky and Michael Keane.
- 59:32That's a point for Evan.
- 59:33What does that do though?
- 59:35Because Ciano Barry's played 1,050 minutes in a week.
- 59:40I'm tongue-in-cheek with regards to all that with the front two, but...
- 59:43We may have to try and go to like a 4-4-2 and play.
- 59:47Go back to old school, big man, little man.
- 59:49Because if you played Keanu up front, then you could give the young lad Braden Graham a chance up front.
- 59:55Big man, little man, just chase the flick-ons.
- 59:57Old school football.
- 59:59We can't do that.
- 1:00:01We can't do that.
- 1:00:02Thanks, Liam.
- 1:00:02At least somebody else has talked and seen me.
- 1:00:05We can't do that.
- 1:00:06All out of us has gone nuts.
- 1:00:08He's lost his mind.
- 1:00:09He's lost the clock.
- 1:00:11Watch this space.
- 1:00:12If he scores, I'm not coming on the pod.
- 1:00:15Keno.
- 1:00:17Keno is going to play more.
- 1:00:18Yeah, there's a statement for you.
- 1:00:19Keno's going to play more games up front for us from this.
- 1:00:22Keep track, Liam.
- 1:00:23From this moment till the end of the season, Keno's going to play more games or more minutes up front than he's going to play setter half.
- 1:00:30Oh, flippity.
- 1:00:31I can't wait to see what happens.
- 1:00:32Ozzy, one thing I wanted to ask you to leave us off was you know Moyes and you've been in his changing room.
- 1:00:39After all the chaos that's happened over the last week, what do you think Moyes' message is going to be to that Everton squad and to us as a fan base?
- 1:00:49Well, I think there's a chance he'll be flat.
- 1:00:52There was moments, Joe does have a career where he was really upbeat and there was fights in him.
- 1:00:56There was moments where he was a little bit flat and he needed help.
- 1:00:59And I think getting a result would help him.
- 1:01:02But I think it goes into the dressing room.
- 1:01:04and probably says, look, look around.
- 1:01:07This is it.
- 1:01:08This is who we are.
- 1:01:09This is every face that's going to be available from now at the end of the season.
- 1:01:15How we get success, where we finish, top, bottom, wherever we finish, only these faces in here can affect that.
- 1:01:22And there might not be many of us.
- 1:01:23We might have to stick together.
- 1:01:24We might have to play when we're not all fit.
- 1:01:26We might have to play out of position.
- 1:01:28But look at each other, demand the best from each other, work hard for each other.
- 1:01:33It'll be along them lines in terms of now go out and give everything you've got for each other.
- 1:01:39There's no other noise.
- 1:01:40Don't listen.
- 1:01:41No, not necessarily dogs of war because you can play top football within that.
- 1:01:45But Jack Grealish might be there and you're thinking, well, shall I stay in position?
- 1:01:49And now you think, no, I'm going to run the extra 10 yards to make a pass for him.
- 1:01:52I'm going to run this.
- 1:01:53I'm going to do a bit more.
- 1:01:54It's just us.
- 1:01:55It's basically the mentality like if you've got 10 men.
- 1:01:59And it'd be that type of thing I'd be buying into if I was given that speech.
- 1:02:04It's not a bad start at 11, is it?
- 1:02:05That's probably because I've listened to Moisey make speeches like that before.
- 1:02:10So, no, do you know what?
- 1:02:12We've not got a bad start at 11.
- 1:02:14We really haven't.
- 1:02:15We just Yeah Can you imagine Every time we get an injury From now until the end of the season There'll be a massive Oh Yeah Within the stadium So again it's just Everton isn't it It's just Everton for you Yep
- 1:02:34It is.
- 1:02:35But honestly, I think I fancy us Sunday.
- 1:02:37After all that.
- 1:02:39Let's try and end on a positive note.
- 1:02:41I do think...
- 1:02:42I fancy us Sunday.
- 1:02:44It'd be the most evident thing ever to go and get a result on Sunday.
- 1:02:48Win three nil's here, nobody gets it atterick.
- 1:02:50Yeah, fancy us Sunday.
- 1:02:52He was the most informed striker in the world last week.
- 1:02:54Don't start me off, our cards have been on that.
- 1:02:58It's all he ever says.
- 1:03:00You know, let's just hope.
- 1:03:02Just get the rosary beat out.
- 1:03:03Everyone's turning up on Sunday with the rosary.
- 1:03:06Speak to your vicar, speak to your priest, speak to your father, pray.
- 1:03:10And I tell you what, if we do win, I know what you're saying, but if we do win seven points from three games, that'd be a hell of a start.
- 1:03:18Yeah, and it's easy for God or not because of all the chaos that we have actually started the season pretty well.
- 1:03:23And that should continue, all this chaos aside.
- 1:03:26Hopefully, fingers crossed.
- 1:03:27Yeah, there's going to be a lot of us going there with frustration.
- 1:03:29My kids and family are very frustrated going to the game on Sunday.
- 1:03:34But through it all, we still need to just be, which we are, the best supporters in the country.
- 1:03:40Just get behind the team as much as we can.
