- 0:01And 465 and then go into this next chapter, we close with this
- 0:06idea that when someone gives another person respect, if
- 0:10you're the kind of person that greets everybody in the room,
- 0:16that greets everyone you see, you reach them first.
- 0:18If you're that kind of person, it comes from strong division of
- 0:23humility and the ability to be able to see everyone.
- 0:26A lot of people who don't greet people, it's not so much they
- 0:29fought. They don't even realize that
- 0:31they're there because they're a little bit self, you know, self
- 0:35focused. And because of that, they don't
- 0:37see everyone in the room, literally.
- 0:39So this idea of greeting another person is based on being
- 0:43inherently humble, but it's also being very smart.
- 0:48Why is it smart? Because it creates relationships
- 0:52and makes yourself and you into a warm person.
- 0:55It makes everyone appreciate you and like you.
- 0:57Not in the popular way, but more in the likeable way.
- 0:59Those are two different things, but they're reality.
- 1:01Popular is one kind. You could have some really rough
- 1:03people if that are popular, and you could have, that's just the
- 1:07reality. Why?
- 1:07Because they are charming, they're powerful, they're in
- 1:11positions of authority, they're cool, all those words.
- 1:14But with that comes, you know, problematic person.
- 1:18And you could have a person who's not so popular, but it's
- 1:21very nice. But in reality they're far more
- 1:24well liked than the popular person.
- 1:26Sounds like a deep point, but it's the truth.
- 1:29But then he says with this is based on humility.
- 1:32So humility creates that and it also creates the ends with it
- 1:37creates a very much more enjoyable life.
- 1:41Being humble creates this. It creates relationships and
- 1:45makes you into a warm person, makes you into a person who
- 1:48greets others, who says hello, who recognize everyone who's
- 1:51there, who asked them how they're doing, all those
- 1:54qualities. And that's one area.
- 1:56That's relationships. And secondly, in general, your
- 1:59own personal life, being humble makes you happier.
- 2:02And he says you think it's a funny thing about life.
- 2:07Most character traits, because I'm just telling you on your
- 2:10own, most character traits that are good require cutting down.
- 2:14You cut yourself down a little bit, You humble yourself, you
- 2:17take yourself out of the limelight.
- 2:19You don't make a big noise. All those things, cutting down.
- 2:22So it feels like you're cutting down, you're hurting yourself.
- 2:25Any form of cutting away is cutting away on myself.
- 2:28I'm harming myself. And the reality is with most
- 2:31good character, cutting down is like pruning.
- 2:34Pruning means you cut it down, you make it stronger, you make
- 2:38it more beautiful, you make it healthier, clean it up.
- 2:41Exactly. So there's over here when a
- 2:43person who cut himself makes him humble, he's able to stay
- 2:45everyone else in the room because he's not looking over
- 2:47himself, he's looking at them. That's Part 1.
- 2:49And when you make yourself humble, when you are that way,
- 2:52you also have with this pruning a much more enjoyable life and
- 2:57existence. Why is the humble life a more
- 3:00enjoyable life? I know it's better character.
- 3:02Why is it more enjoyable? Well, all the insults that come
- 3:05your way don't bother you. All the lack of kaput doesn't
- 3:08mean anything to you. You're not running for the same
- 3:10things as the other guy. You're not looking for the same
- 3:13things as the person who wants kaput.
- 3:15You're in a much more steady, healthy state.
- 3:19That's the two things you said from yesterday.
- 3:21I think they're both very important.
- 3:22Humility allows you to greet other people, and humility
- 3:25allows you to enjoy life. Now how does a person, this is
- 3:30on now phase 466. How does a person acquire your
- 3:34mood? What do you do?
- 3:35You beat yourself down. You tell yourself you're
- 3:38nothing. How do you acquire your mood?
- 3:40So he says the only way you do it, the only way.
- 3:45Main way, actually practice. You practice saying to yourself,
- 3:50doesn't matter. It doesn't make a difference.
- 3:52It's not a big deal. They didn't grieve me, OK, I
- 3:55didn't get a value. Fine.
- 3:57I don't need to be the sharpest. I don't need to be the loudest.
- 4:00I don't need to be the most well known.
- 4:01I don't need the most famous. You have the gaze of used to
- 4:05practice. Isn't that unsustainable?
- 4:07Because that's like, it's almost like artificial.
- 4:11You're telling you're trying to retrain yourself.
- 4:14I, I think I could when I was reading it one time, I, I think
- 4:19I might have understood it as if you go through the whole book,
- 4:24that gratitudes, like when you realize what Hashem gives you,
- 4:29Yeah, that you're not really worthy of whatever it is that
- 4:31you have more, that you're more fortunate than somebody else.
- 4:35I think that you're able to then have humility good, because
- 4:42you're not worthy. You're right.
- 4:43That is true. At the core of humility is
- 4:46realization that Hashem runs the world.
- 4:48Hashem is in power. Everything.
- 4:49Every single level of success in my life.
- 4:51Every one of them start to finish all God-given.
- 4:54I could easily paint the picture in 5 minutes.
- 4:57How could have gone out of the way, could have marry a
- 4:58different person, could have different children, could have
- 5:00got a different job, could have lived in a different community.
- 5:03All those things in 5 minutes. That's true.
- 5:06His problem with that is alone I think is that the mental mindset
- 5:12of what gets it to humility won't stick.
- 5:15He feels you see from his words. This isn't addressed
- 5:18hysterically, but you see from his words he feels that just on
- 5:22your mind saying stuff, I should be humble.
- 5:24It won't work because we are at the end of the day human beings
- 5:28and we do. Although we know why we should
- 5:30be humble, we also have very much a sense of why we deserve
- 5:35credit and why we're successful. And we feel like, look how I'm
- 5:39doing. We can't get past that point.
- 5:42So he holds it needs to be more practice based than it is mental
- 5:47based. The mental base is core.
- 5:49It's key. You may be saying, but it's hard
- 5:51to keep. And the practice base in his
- 5:54sense is more practical. But if you're going to go down
- 5:59the route of trying to practice humility, don't try to jump to
- 6:05the finish line because it's practice.
- 6:07It has to be small move at a time.
- 6:10You can't go from a guy who has a big position, was well known,
- 6:13who cares about everything, gets bothered by everything, all of a
- 6:16sudden saying one thing, you know, I'm not going to care
- 6:18anymore to heal. I get so nervous every time
- 6:21someone doesn't invite me, someone insults me, someone says
- 6:23I don't want to care at all. You could say that it's not
- 6:26going to work. What's going to work is, is that
- 6:30one thing it doesn't really work out.
- 6:33You say OK, it doesn't matter, big deal.
- 6:35Another thing doesn't it doesn't make a difference.
- 6:38And slowly you start to realize, you start to see the clarity,
- 6:43which is I didn't need to care about everything.
- 6:45I don't need to be so arrogant. I don't need to be so busy with
- 6:47things. And you look at life and you
- 6:48say, hey, it's fine the other way.
- 6:50As slowly but surely, step by step, you get used to it, as
- 6:54you'll see. And you build because mentally
- 6:57alone with your mind alone, you know why, To be humble, but you
- 7:01won't be humble. That's what he's telling you.
- 7:02I want to stick. Let's read it together.
- 7:04Isn't it very important to be able to listen to people, to
- 7:07talk to them, pay attention to them?
- 7:09Yeah, but that's already make. Them feel good, you know?
- 7:12That's all because you're already on my person.
- 7:14You need to get to that point. You can't start off saying I'm
- 7:17going to listen to everyone. You know, the politicians, they
- 7:19work around the Javier for everyone.
- 7:21No, you listen because you need to get you need to get into
- 7:23office. You know what?
- 7:23I'm interested in listening. The moment you get into office,
- 7:27you know they don't follow the wrong word that they said,
- 7:29right? Because they listen.
- 7:31Just because they leave, that's not listening.
- 7:33Let's see it together. Shine him there are two really 2
- 7:38steps. Hamarghulima da Adamela Nava
- 7:41would bring you to humili. Explain why humili is all born
- 7:46and how a person who's humble thinks.
- 7:49But let's get you there. How to gilute my 8 pony 1 is
- 7:53practice and other one is thinking.
- 7:55So the truth is the thinking 1 is ABS the first to practice 1.
- 7:59How to gilu 2 she had Adam. The practice method is then a
- 8:06person says Marigilla. That's more he gets himself used
- 8:10to not not slowly but surely made na egg bishi flute.
- 8:17A person slowly but surely gets himself used to being small,
- 8:26being low key. He gets used to low key be
- 8:29shivata MI commot happy routine. He sits in his seat that's not
- 8:34so prominent. He doesn't need to stand in the
- 8:36front, right? He travels, so to speak, in the
- 8:42back of the bus, in the back of the crew.
- 8:44He doesn't need the most prominent stance and everything.
- 8:48The Bush bigots. And he wears modest clothing.
- 8:53Yes, what you wear is actually a main display of humility.
- 8:58There's a way that flashes clothing.
- 9:00Keep going. Dinu Mukhubadi and Bakhuma
- 9:03Farty. Nice clothing, but not so loud.
- 9:06Keep it talk alone. But then it has it because when
- 9:09you get used to these different moves of humility, different
- 9:14acts, these are physical only acts.
- 9:16Sitting in the back, Being in the back of the crew wasn't in
- 9:20the back of the crew. Back of the crew means you're
- 9:22sitting with your family, right? You're sitting in the family and
- 9:26they're all talking, talking, talking, and you can't get a
- 9:28word in. Does it bother you?
- 9:32Some people bothers a lot on the conversation, right?
- 9:34Some people bothers a lot. Some people get careless.
- 9:37You want to be able to careless, guy.
- 9:39If it's your children, different story.
- 9:42But if your siblings and your parents and other people around
- 9:46and you can't get a word in, you ain't lost.
- 9:49I could bother a person. How does a son-in-law able to
- 9:51handle that? He gets used to it and he's
- 9:53accustomed to it. He's OK with it.
- 9:55That's humility. All right, right.
- 9:56There's humility. What do you wear?
- 9:59Will you wear matters? Yes, what you wear makes a
- 10:01difference. If you need to be very flashy,
- 10:03it means you are very conscious of being seen.
- 10:07That is arrogance. People don't realize that is
- 10:09arrogance. Needing to talk a lot is
- 10:11arrogance. Needing to be in the front,
- 10:13seeing no matter what and getting upset because you didn't
- 10:15get a good seat is arrogance. These are the things that are
- 10:18personalized to get used to doing the opposite.
- 10:21If I get used to humility that way, and you could add a million
- 10:23more, a million more examples you and I could come up with
- 10:26which are feelings of your mood, for example, like I said, not
- 10:31getting upset when someone does any wrong to you, that's your
- 10:34mood. Like even random, like you're
- 10:37driving, someone steals your parking spot.
- 10:39Yeah, that's arrogant. That's.
- 10:40Also arrogance, any person who any person right my spot most
- 10:46areas of a here how you supposed to like admit it that, but you
- 10:50like your man and it's not the worst thing, but any person who
- 10:54has a sense that I deserve has a sense that I exist now.
- 11:00That's what a stranger. So a stranger is a little bit of
- 11:02a different angle. It's not because you don't see
- 11:05them as Oh, they don't hold on me.
- 11:07Oh, they don't preview properly. That's not there in that case,
- 11:10and a stranger doesn't know you. So that's a strong over there.
- 11:14You want to know when you drive a car and you pull up to the red
- 11:17light and you got a little too close and the Walker, the person
- 11:21walking the guy on the bike gives you that stare down.
- 11:24My favorite scene because I always laugh.
- 11:25I said this guy, all he has is his bike, but he thinks he can
- 11:29stand me down. That move by those people is our
- 11:32is he? Having the lady.
- 11:34With the walk, no, that's not I. She's upset.
- 11:36That's not ours. I do.
- 11:37But that move by those people that stared out is Gava.
- 11:41They think of that two second moment and they have something
- 11:44on you. That's all moves are.
- 11:46There's a million more getting assaulted, getting upset, D like
- 11:51why they treat me this way? How'd they forget about me?
- 11:54My plate doesn't have a fork, right?
- 11:57I meant there's not enough food for me, right?
- 12:01They didn't invite me, get everyone in the car for me, all
- 12:04these different, I didn't exist enough type things.
- 12:07They made a party, they go on a trip and they didn't think to
- 12:10call me. All these things and there's a
- 12:12million more and every one of them hurts.
- 12:17Every one of them are based on some degree of not bad.
- 12:21But Gava and humility says I don't deserve this, I don't
- 12:25deserve that. I shouldn't expect this, I
- 12:27shouldn't expect that. I'm perfectly fine the way I am
- 12:30and I'm very good being alone, being on my own corner.
- 12:34Humility and confidence are one of the same.
- 12:37And it's never clearer than this because when a person dresses
- 12:42flashy for his examples that he gives a person dresses flashy,
- 12:45what are they saying? I need other people to build me
- 12:48up. When a person gets upset for not
- 12:51being brought to something, not being asked to speak, not being
- 12:54recognized as a big deal, what he's saying is I need to be
- 12:58present here to build me up. That's that's insecurity.
- 13:02That's all insecurity. So a person has to get used to
- 13:06the confident, humble structure, which is I'm good, I'm good no
- 13:10matter what. I'm good alone.
- 13:12I'm good on my own. I'm good on my own family.
- 13:14I don't need all these things. I don't need promise among other
- 13:17people. I don't need so much promise
- 13:19among my broader family. I'm good.
- 13:21When you get used to that humble and confident at once, you get
- 13:26used to that constantly, you will become the most confident
- 13:29man alive at the same time, the most humble man alive.
- 13:33And you look and laugh, really laugh.
- 13:36You laugh. And what bothers people, and you
- 13:38say to yourself, that guy is losing his day on that.
- 13:41That guy's getting upset about the other thing.
- 13:43That person is he's so furious because they forgot to call him.
- 13:47They know he knows. Everyone knows who's a mistake.
- 13:49You know there was, you know, the other cases where a mistake
- 13:52happened and the person's furious, right?
- 13:54Happens mostly in shul. Right, exactly.
- 13:57And these types of places and religious get togethers and
- 14:00gatherings and parties and weddings and things.
- 14:02So mistakes. Basic and maturity.
- 14:04It is it's lack of knowledge of the scene.
- 14:07But why is it there? Because the insecure slash
- 14:10arrogant person, which to me is one of the same, by the way,
- 14:12that person saw the scene and because you saw arrogant, he
- 14:16didn't give it a chance to see the full picture.
- 14:18That's very clear. They forgot to call you.
- 14:21Apologies so much. They forgot to call you.
- 14:24Yeah, That means I don't rate. They didn't forget to call so
- 14:27and so and forgot to call me because I'm not a big deal.
- 14:30You know, maybe it's because you're a nice person.
- 14:31You don't like it, but you don't make a big deal out of.
- 14:34It I agree, but the levels of deals that people do, some
- 14:37people get crazy, other people get a little nervous.
- 14:40Everyone's human. I'm fully understanding of that.
- 14:42He's telling you over here, get used to it and build on it a
- 14:46step by step. A small thing, another small
- 14:49thing, another small thing, because inevitably it's going to
- 14:52happen thousands of times throughout your life.
- 14:55You name the person, they've been disparaged in this angle
- 15:00constantly, and they need to get past it.
- 15:02This is this point. When you do this solely right,
- 15:05you have experience. Haven't you been left out of
- 15:08something a million times? How many times did you have a
- 15:12person who forgot about you, who didn't make the phone call, who
- 15:16didn't invite you to the party and they should have, who didn't
- 15:18give you the better seat? Who, like I said, you buy a
- 15:21family meeting, a meal or meal or whatever, and you get a
- 15:24chance to talk all these different things.
- 15:27I did all the same exact thing. There wasn't enough of me in
- 15:31that situation. And that's because I'm a little
- 15:34insecure, a little arrogant, and if I get humble, I'm in a far
- 15:38better spot. Prune myself.
- 15:40But I grow, I'm beautiful, and I'm successful.
- 15:43That's the idea, all right.
