- 0:00Speaker 1: Some news regarding Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat. It
- 0:04Speaker 1: is breaking this evening. There's a statement on Jimmy Butler.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Miami Heat are suspending Jimmy without pay effectively immediately,
- 0:11Speaker 1: for an indefinite period to last no fewer than five games.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The suspension is due to a continued pattern of disregard
- 0:19Speaker 1: of team rules, engaging in conduct detrimental to the team,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and intentionally withholding services. This includes walking out of practice
- 0:27Speaker 1: earlier today. Here's their head coach, Eric Spolstra.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, with all due respect to obviously the questions that
- 0:33Speaker 2: may come up, what do you tell your team in
- 0:36Speaker 2: a situation like this with everything that seems to be
- 0:38Speaker 2: happening daily? Doesn't do things need to be said as
- 0:41Speaker 2: it constantly updates us. What the statement today?
- 0:43Speaker 3: But no, we didn't even talk about anything today other
- 0:46Speaker 3: than preparing for the magic I get it. You know,
- 0:49Speaker 3: what do you guys all want?
- 0:50Speaker 4: You know?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Right now?
- 0:51Speaker 3: And I figure that's why this media room is full
- 0:55Speaker 3: right now. We're trying to quiet you know, the noise,
- 1:01Speaker 3: and we're just focusing on the task at hand. There's
- 1:04Speaker 3: no better place to be than just the present moment.
- 1:09Speaker 1: All right, Zeke this is your area of expertise. What
- 1:12Speaker 1: do you make of this situation that has been going
- 1:14Speaker 1: on for over a month now with Jimmy Butler and
- 1:16Speaker 1: yet another suspension?
- 1:18Speaker 5: You know, unfortunately, you know, this is a part of
- 1:24Speaker 5: the NBA, right and it doesn't happen all the time,
- 1:28Speaker 5: But there are times when a player wants to leave
- 1:30Speaker 5: an organization. The organization and the player are not on
- 1:34Speaker 5: the same page. But you also have a collective bargaining
- 1:38Speaker 5: agreement that the players and the owners have agreed on
- 1:41Speaker 5: for players to act and conduct themselves in a certain way.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Eventually this all plays out, and it all works out.
- 1:49Speaker 5: But unfortunately, right now we get to see it in
- 1:52Speaker 5: real time and we get the comment and talk about it. Now,
- 1:57Speaker 5: Who's right, Who's wrong? I don't know, but I do
- 2:00Speaker 5: you know this Jimmy Butler, you know, has proven that
- 2:05Speaker 5: you know, he can lead a team and take a
- 2:07Speaker 5: team to the championship. The Miami Heat have proven over
- 2:10Speaker 5: time that they are organizations that knows how to go
- 2:14Speaker 5: out and find players and win championships. And at one
- 2:17Speaker 5: point in time, this organization and this player was on
- 2:21Speaker 5: the same page and they got to the NBA Finals.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Now that they're not on the same page. You see
- 2:28Speaker 5: where they are. They're struggling to, you know, be in
- 2:31Speaker 5: playoff contention, and Jimmy now is kind of trying to
- 2:35Speaker 5: figure out what's his next move. But the important thing
- 2:38Speaker 5: is when you get an organization and a player on
- 2:40Speaker 5: the same page, like Jimmy Butler, beautiful things can happen,
- 2:44Speaker 5: and when they're not on the same page, ugly things happen.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You know, Vince, We've been asking this question for over
- 2:50Speaker 1: a month, right, is this the last time we've seen
- 2:52Speaker 1: Jimmy Butler in the Miami Heat uniform? Do you think
- 2:55Speaker 1: this now is the lot of demarcation that he'll never
- 2:58Speaker 1: play another game in the Heat?
- 2:59Speaker 4: I do now. I think they're understanding that he's not
- 3:03Speaker 4: willing to comply. He's making his statement, he's trying his
- 3:07Speaker 4: best to get moved. And I think now for the
- 3:11Speaker 4: for the organization being that they said, no, we're not
- 3:14Speaker 4: moving you. We feel like you said that beautiful things
- 3:17Speaker 4: happen when we're together. We're hoping he would come around,
- 3:20Speaker 4: and now that you see that he's not coming around,
- 3:23Speaker 4: it's time to make the best decision for your organization
- 3:26Speaker 4: and move on because it's becoming a distraction and they
- 3:29Speaker 4: still have a chance to still be in the playoffs
- 3:32Speaker 4: and compete. So the sooner you get rid of the
- 3:34Speaker 4: problem or fix the problem, I feel like, the better
- 3:36Speaker 4: you will be
