- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Leu Terminello. My friend, we haven't had the termino's taken
- 0:10Speaker 2: a low while, but since we last talked, the Giants
- 0:14Speaker 2: have undergone major coaching changes and like firing their head
- 0:18Speaker 2: coach Brian Dable and Mike Kuffka taking over. And you
- 0:22Speaker 2: know we're gonna start with hockey in a second. But
- 0:24Speaker 2: I have to say it would be a real shame
- 0:26Speaker 2: if Dabell's last act was to have Jackson dark in
- 0:30Speaker 2: concussion protocol the rest of the season. Like maybe it
- 0:34Speaker 2: is true he ran him not to the ground, but
- 0:38Speaker 2: to this situation that Jackson's him, maybe he did.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Go too hard with him his first year.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Well, Alex, thanks for having me. Good to be back
- 0:45Speaker 3: with you. As always, I'm not gonna blame the concussion
- 0:51Speaker 3: situation on on Brian Dable. There were other things that
- 0:55Speaker 3: you could you can blame him on. As far as
- 0:57Speaker 3: him getting fired, I was surprised that he was fired
- 1:02Speaker 3: after after the loss last week. I wouldn't have been
- 1:06Speaker 3: surprised if he was fired at the end of the year.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I just was surprised at the timing. Jackson Dart has
- 1:14Speaker 3: as we said, we said, he has to protect himself better.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And of course the guy who protects himself better than
- 1:19Speaker 3: anybody in the league is Patrick Mahomes. Josh Allen's pretty
- 1:23Speaker 3: good at it. Also, he's a rookie, he's uh dart
- 1:27Speaker 3: is and uh he definitely has charisma. The team responds
- 1:32Speaker 3: to him. But now he's when is he coming back? Now?
- 1:36Speaker 3: This is gonna be two weeks where he hasn't cleared
- 1:39Speaker 3: concussion protocol, and as we know, concussions are a major
- 1:42Speaker 3: problem in the NFL. I don't know if he plays
- 1:47Speaker 3: again this year. Maybe they don't play him just to
- 1:49Speaker 3: protect him from himself. I don't know that. Uh, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 3: so we'll see what happens the rest of the way.
- 1:56Speaker 3: The guy has proven that he that he has a
- 1:58Speaker 3: chance to be, you know, a long time starting quarterback
- 2:02Speaker 3: for the New York Giants and in the NFL. But
- 2:05Speaker 3: that did not get that did not get Davel fired.
- 2:08Speaker 3: But Alex, I do believe on that Thursday night game
- 2:12Speaker 3: when they were in the tent when they beat the Eagles,
- 2:15Speaker 3: I think he came back. And I'm no doctor, so
- 2:17Speaker 3: I'm not I'm no neurologist, but he might have came
- 2:20Speaker 3: back with a concussion. And if that's the case, that's
- 2:23Speaker 3: on Brian Dable because you know, we know what happened
- 2:26Speaker 3: at night. He went into the tent. Scatterbu went into
- 2:30Speaker 3: the tent. You know, became you know, it became a
- 2:33Speaker 3: little bit of craziness.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So it became a whole crapstorm. Actually because I did
- 2:39Speaker 2: it was a fine situation and then this, I mean,
- 2:42Speaker 2: it was bad.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And I don't know.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I just feel like there were certain things that Jackson
- 2:49Speaker 2: darts first year has been shaped by, and one of
- 2:51Speaker 2: them is, uh, it is totally this concussion situation he's
- 2:55Speaker 2: got going on. They're gonna go with Winston again this weekend.
- 2:57Speaker 3: We'll have to see.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I want to talk about the Jets. I mean, this
- 3:00Speaker 2: quarterback saga is weird. But what about what about the
- 3:05Speaker 2: fact that we haven't been talked about the loss of
- 3:08Speaker 2: Larry Brooks either.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Maybe we start there. I mean J. T.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Miller scoring in the first goal the first game since
- 3:15Speaker 2: Brooksy's death last Saturday to win it. I thought that
- 3:18Speaker 2: was so fitting because look, Brooksy was very fond of JT.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Miller in all his writings of him.
- 3:24Speaker 3: He was at J. T. Miller. I have to admit
- 3:26Speaker 3: since the Rangers came back to the Rangers. This is
- 3:28Speaker 3: me just I'm not you know, I'm not a Ranger fan,
- 3:30Speaker 3: but I'm not a Ranger basher. As far as analyzing
- 3:34Speaker 3: their play. J. D. Miller has not performed like the
- 3:38Speaker 3: Rangers thought he was going to perform. And he's got
- 3:40Speaker 3: five years left on an eight million dollars a year contract.
- 3:43Speaker 3: He played a great game in Colorado, so hopefully, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 3: so hopefully for Rangers and the management and their fans
- 3:52Speaker 3: that he takes off from this point. As you said,
- 3:57Speaker 3: as I said to you a couple of times, I
- 3:59Speaker 3: would have made Vincent trotech the captain. But Trochek has
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think this is last year before he goes in
- 4:06Speaker 3: free agency. Maybe that's why they didn't do it. That's
- 4:10Speaker 3: just that's just my view from afar. Right now, the
- 4:13Speaker 3: Rangers are stuck in no man's land, Alex and that's
- 4:17Speaker 3: not a good place to be now. The NHL Eastern
- 4:19Speaker 3: Conference and the NHL in general, everybody's bunched up. But
- 4:25Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't have right now at the
- 4:27Speaker 3: twenty game mark. I know we're at the quarter pole
- 4:30Speaker 3: mark and teams have played twenty twenty one games. I think.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I think the Bruins have played like twenty three. They
- 4:36Speaker 3: played the most. I don't know what. I don't know
- 4:39Speaker 3: how to evaluate this Ranger team. I don't know if
- 4:41Speaker 3: they're just gonna be stuck in the middle. You know,
- 4:46Speaker 3: there's some teams that are on the rise and some
- 4:48Speaker 3: of them that may not make the playoffs this year.
- 4:50Speaker 3: But you look at you look at Anaheim, you look
- 4:54Speaker 3: you look at at the San Jose Sharks, who are
- 4:56Speaker 3: a little bit over five hundred. But look in his
- 4:59Speaker 3: second year, Matt flinched Celebrini. You know, he has he
- 5:02Speaker 3: scored the hat trick the other night. He has thirty
- 5:04Speaker 3: plus points. Will Smith, their center that nobody knows about,
- 5:09Speaker 3: you know in the East because he plays for the
- 5:11Speaker 3: Anaheim Ducks nineteen points, and Chris Krider has ten goals
- 5:16Speaker 3: and for assists, and he gives them a veteran presses,
- 5:18Speaker 3: so does Jacob Truber, and they have other veteran presents
- 5:22Speaker 3: on their team. They're they're an intriguing team to watch,
- 5:25Speaker 3: and right now they're in first place in the Pacific Division.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I don't expect that to hold up, but at least
- 5:30Speaker 3: they're not hopeless neither is San Jose anymore.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Know when when do we say the Ducks were in
- 5:35Speaker 2: first place? Not for a while, So yeah, no, it's
- 5:38Speaker 2: kind of intriguing. And Crider has been such a boost
- 5:41Speaker 2: to Ye.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Absolutely, that veteran, those veteran presents have to help, and
- 5:46Speaker 3: they have. Leo Carlson. I mean, the guy's got twenty
- 5:48Speaker 3: five points, he's twenty years old. He's plus eleven for
- 5:52Speaker 3: the Ducks, and uh, I mean they're an interesting watch now.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Of course in the East, the Islanders aren't have surprised.
- 6:01Speaker 3: They just had an amazing six and one road trip
- 6:04Speaker 3: against tough opponents, and even in the one game that
- 6:08Speaker 3: they lost, they played very well against the Colorado Avalanche.
- 6:15Speaker 3: They've done a good job. And uh, Horvat, I mean,
- 6:20Speaker 3: he's really making a bid to be on the Canadian
- 6:23Speaker 3: Olympic team. He's he's tied. He's either second league goals
- 6:27Speaker 3: or tied, Yeah, tied with for second. He's been tremendous.
- 6:32Speaker 3: He's all around game, power play, penalty kill, He's playing
- 6:35Speaker 3: a two hundred the two hundreds foot game. And of
- 6:38Speaker 3: course we knew that this kid was going to be good.
- 6:42Speaker 3: We didn't know he was going to be be good
- 6:44Speaker 3: dis early. The amazing Matthew Schaeffer. I mean, he scored
- 6:49Speaker 3: a game winning goal, youngest game winning goal for in
- 6:52Speaker 3: overtime in NHL history. He's averaging twenty three minutes a game,
- 6:57Speaker 3: which is which is which is uh challenging, and I
- 7:01Speaker 3: want to see if he peters out at the end.
- 7:04Speaker 3: He's actually now being considered by Hockey Canada as a
- 7:09Speaker 3: potential for the Olympic team. Alex. I hope he doesn't
- 7:14Speaker 3: make the Olympic team. I'd rather see him get the
- 7:16Speaker 3: eighteen days off and and recharge himself. He's that important
- 7:21Speaker 3: to the Islanders, as I said to you in the past,
- 7:23Speaker 3: and this was before your time. And there's only one
- 7:26Speaker 3: Bobby Or, so I'm not gonna says Bobby Or. But
- 7:28Speaker 3: this kid has Bobby or type skills. And the Devils
- 7:34Speaker 3: I have done off to a great start. They lost
- 7:36Speaker 3: their last two games. But now a freak injury, I
- 7:39Speaker 3: mean with with their best player appointed game guy in
- 7:42Speaker 3: Jack Hughes, cutting his pinky so bad he's gonna be
- 7:46Speaker 3: out two months and needed a major operation, and it
- 7:50Speaker 3: was almost so bad that they thought he might be
- 7:55Speaker 3: out for the whole season. So that's that's disappointing, But
- 7:59Speaker 3: I think it's going to be an interesting winter for
- 8:01Speaker 3: the three hockey teams. I did not think it was
- 8:04Speaker 3: at the beginning of the year. I didn't think the
- 8:05Speaker 3: Islanders were going to play as well as they did
- 8:10Speaker 3: in the first twenty and hopefully they play this way
- 8:12Speaker 3: the rest of the year. But Sorogan's playing great. They
- 8:16Speaker 3: suffered a tough flass. We don't know how long he's
- 8:18Speaker 3: going to be out with Alexander Romanov getting pushed into
- 8:21Speaker 3: the boards the other night by Miko Ranton, and I
- 8:24Speaker 3: don't think it was a dirty play, but that's disappointing
- 8:29Speaker 3: that he'll be out for an extended period. He is
- 8:31Speaker 3: their hardest hitter. But the one thing the Islanders need
- 8:34Speaker 3: the Islanders. The Islanders need are an enforcer too bad
- 8:39Speaker 3: Matt Martin is no longer there. They need him to
- 8:41Speaker 3: protect the kid, and of course the enforcer I would
- 8:45Speaker 3: want because he's a skilled player. Yes we know he
- 8:47Speaker 3: goes over the line, Yes we know he's done dirty
- 8:49Speaker 3: things in the past, but besides being an enforcer, he's
- 8:52Speaker 3: an outstanding hockey player. You know, the.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Islanders are looking pretty good and you know Schaeffer has
- 8:58Speaker 2: been a right light here in the tri said area
- 9:02Speaker 2: and may continue to be. I know, last time you're
- 9:05Speaker 2: worried about his playing time. Do you still think they're
- 9:07Speaker 2: playing him too much?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Or I am? I am? And like I said, I
- 9:11Speaker 3: know he's an outside candidate to make the Canadian Olympic
- 9:15Speaker 3: hockey team. Like I said, I hope he doesn't make it.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I want to see in those three weeks just rest
- 9:21Speaker 3: because the Islanders at the twenty game mark are better
- 9:26Speaker 3: than I thought they would be. They've changed their style
- 9:28Speaker 3: of play that they're a quicker team and I mean
- 9:33Speaker 3: just wrapping up well not always, I hope.
- 9:35Speaker 2: So why, I think he's a very good coach and
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't know why people were down on him. I
- 9:38Speaker 2: think he's a very good coach.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Well yeah, I mean he has He's coached champions in
- 9:45Speaker 3: Canadian junior hockey and he's into the game. Obviously he
- 9:51Speaker 3: doesn't let things get past them. So Rogan's playing great.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Their lines are are deeper. Like I said, I wish
- 9:58Speaker 3: they hadn't enforced. I wish they had somebody like Tom Wilson,
- 10:01Speaker 3: a guy who's an enforcer who scores thirty goals, but
- 10:04Speaker 3: those guys are you can count them on less than
- 10:07Speaker 3: one hand. And I know Tom Wilson's gone over the
- 10:10Speaker 3: line many times in his career, but I actually heard
- 10:13Speaker 3: a report the other day that he might be considered
- 10:16Speaker 3: for Team Canada, the Olympic team. So it's gonna be
- 10:21Speaker 3: a very interesting hockey season. But at the twenty game mark,
- 10:25Speaker 3: the Devils, and I think the Devils are happy where
- 10:28Speaker 3: they are, not happy that they don't have their best
- 10:30Speaker 3: player again for the next six to eight weeks. The
- 10:35Speaker 3: Islanders definitely are happy where they are. Nobody thought they
- 10:38Speaker 3: would be anywhere near this. We'll see if this continues,
- 10:41Speaker 3: and the Rangers are The Rangers need more production from
- 10:45Speaker 3: their top end guys, the top end veterans, they really do,
- 10:49Speaker 3: and they.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I've got Ryan here, he's in his Islander gear. Are
- 10:53Speaker 2: you impressed with the way they've looked the last what how.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Many games was it, Louis?
- 10:57Speaker 1: It was?
- 10:57Speaker 3: It was a dominant seven game road trip. I mean
- 11:01Speaker 3: it looked like the Islands are the eighties, It really did.
- 11:05Speaker 3: You felt like they were gonna win even in the
- 11:08Speaker 3: close games.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Ryan, you're speechless.
- 11:13Speaker 4: I mean to say that this run on the road
- 11:16Speaker 4: has been impressive. Probably a total understatement. I mean, it's
- 11:21Speaker 4: just wild. First off, that they they're doing all. They're
- 11:25Speaker 4: winning away from Ubs after dropping their last two on
- 11:29Speaker 4: the road, one of which was of course a deflating
- 11:32Speaker 4: shootout loss to the hands of the Bruins. But then
- 11:36Speaker 4: to see them just go on this wild run and
- 11:39Speaker 4: you think it couldn't get any better than and I'm
- 11:43Speaker 4: sorry to say this, Alex then by feen the Blue
- 11:46Speaker 4: Shirts five nothing on MSG ice. Yeah, run of overtime
- 11:50Speaker 4: winners in Jersey, in Vegas and then Utah, and then
- 11:55Speaker 4: continuing that with wins in Dallas.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And in Detroit. You're absolutely right.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Lude it's like you're back in the eighties, back during
- 12:05Speaker 4: the glory days of this franchise, where it seemed like
- 12:08Speaker 4: anything was possible to them. I mean, they got a
- 12:10Speaker 4: top ten penalty killed right now, and I and correct
- 12:13Speaker 4: me if I'm wrong, but I believe they're also top
- 12:15Speaker 4: ten in short handed goals this season. And it's been
- 12:18Speaker 4: such a run where you just can't help but think,
- 12:21Speaker 4: all right, these guys can keep it up.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Anything's possible for them.
- 12:26Speaker 3: No, it's true. And the Kyle Palmry go the other
- 12:28Speaker 3: night after the double minor do Horvat you know when
- 12:32Speaker 3: he scored in Dallas, that definitely took a lot of
- 12:36Speaker 3: wind out of out of Dallas Sales where they had
- 12:40Speaker 3: a four minute power play. Then Horrorvard also got a
- 12:44Speaker 3: ten minute misconduct. They score the goal. Then the Islanders
- 12:48Speaker 3: able to get a penalty which wiped out those four minutes,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and you know, they survived the last twenty seconds. And
- 12:56Speaker 3: I don't think that Miko Ranton then hit was a
- 12:58Speaker 3: dirty hit. Yeah, it enough happened, but yeah, yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 2: The one that Wall went crazy over.
- 13:05Speaker 4: H Yeah, and this is something that I talked about
- 13:08Speaker 4: on my own podcast, But you could hear wa screaming
- 13:14Speaker 4: on TV, and it was more prevalent on the Stars broadcast.
- 13:17Speaker 4: But him yelling to rantin In or In Ranton, it's direction,
- 13:21Speaker 4: I should say, Yes, why won't you do that in
- 13:24Speaker 4: New York? You're not uh, You're not gonna stay in
- 13:27Speaker 4: this effing game. And if anything, March twenty sixth is
- 13:34Speaker 4: gonna be a date that Ales fans, if they haven't
- 13:37Speaker 4: already circled this on their calendar, they sure as heck
- 13:39Speaker 4: a gonna do that now. Because the Stars returned to
- 13:42Speaker 4: UBS come March it's gonna be something else now, I
- 13:47Speaker 4: think now, like you were saying, Luke, do it do?
- 13:50Speaker 4: I also think the hit by Ranton it was dirty. No,
- 13:52Speaker 4: I don't think it was. It shouldn't have happened. But
- 13:55Speaker 4: just because he took out Alex Tremanov, it doesn't mean
- 13:59Speaker 4: he's a dirty player, all right, And it's also not
- 14:01Speaker 4: much of a reason to, you know, go flood his
- 14:04Speaker 4: social media with tons of hateful messages.
- 14:07Speaker 3: And all right.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Yeah, but they didn't keep his so Dora after they
- 14:11Speaker 4: hit on Matthew Schaeffer in the Bruins game weeks ago.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Well, a lot of threats and all that. It's not
- 14:16Speaker 2: a good pattern. We're seeing it.
- 14:17Speaker 3: All.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Well, the thing is, I don't know Alex Ryan, excuse me,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I don't know if you heard me a couple of
- 14:22Speaker 3: minutes ago. That's I'm worried about Shaefer. I mean, Appleton
- 14:26Speaker 3: took a run out of them at ubs. They Appleton
- 14:29Speaker 3: was involved again last night. Not with him so much,
- 14:31Speaker 3: but uh with the Islanders. You know, we've seen them
- 14:36Speaker 3: now three or four times. They're taking runs at the kid.
- 14:39Speaker 3: The Islanders are defending him. But boy, I wish I
- 14:41Speaker 3: wish Matt Martin was still in his prime to protect
- 14:44Speaker 3: him a little.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Bit, because if he was on the ice, forget about it.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I mean, there's no question about it. But I mean,
- 14:51Speaker 4: at least you have Scott Mayfield being more than willing
- 14:55Speaker 4: to stick up for his boys when the time comes.
- 14:57Speaker 4: And look, you could say what you want about his
- 14:59Speaker 4: play the PAS couple of seasons and he's been kind
- 15:02Speaker 4: of the whipping boy he had, but he sticks up
- 15:07Speaker 4: for his teammates no matter what.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And the guy's just a warrior. There's no denying.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Two things quickly that I really like. Obviously, I like
- 15:17Speaker 3: the last couple of games with cal Richie's performance, and
- 15:22Speaker 3: I really think that Max shab No is going to
- 15:25Speaker 3: really be a He's a goal scorer. I mean, he
- 15:28Speaker 3: missed twelve games with that injury, which you know, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 3: in the NHL they don't disclose what their injuries are,
- 15:34Speaker 3: which is just ridiculous. I know why they do it.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I know why they do it. But I think he's
- 15:40Speaker 3: going to be a good point producer for them. And
- 15:44Speaker 3: cal Richie looks more confident than did a week ago.
- 15:48Speaker 3: So congratulations to Matthew Dartch for changing the outlook of
- 15:55Speaker 3: the team from being an old team with no prospects
- 15:59Speaker 3: to being a team with a lot of prospects. I'm
- 16:02Speaker 3: over the next couple of years. I'm excited. At least
- 16:05Speaker 3: it's what it's exciting to watch. I don't know if
- 16:08Speaker 3: they're going to make the playoffs. I have no idea,
- 16:11Speaker 3: but I didn't expect the twenty game mark for the
- 16:13Speaker 3: Islanders to be where the Islanders are right now.
- 16:16Speaker 2: All right, let's go to the hardwood real fast, because
- 16:21Speaker 2: Shams is unbelievable Shaman. I mean, the Knicks need him
- 16:26Speaker 2: and he's coming up clutch, and I guess Brunson is
- 16:29Speaker 2: out here and there, Obie's hit out here and there. Shams, though,
- 16:34Speaker 2: he's the star of the week right now for the Knicks,
- 16:36Speaker 2: isn't he.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Dah No, you know he's bounced around. He played for
- 16:41Speaker 3: the Nets, he played for the Clippers, He's played for
- 16:44Speaker 3: a whole myriad of teams. He did save them this
- 16:48Speaker 3: week Monday Night. I guess he was. He scored those
- 16:52Speaker 3: thirty six points. You need all your guys to help
- 16:55Speaker 3: you win. But the NBA is unwatchable. I'm sorry, I mean,
- 17:03Speaker 3: I'm sorry, And you're talking about a long time NBA
- 17:05Speaker 3: guy who was in the league almost three decades. Sure,
- 17:09Speaker 3: it's an unwatchable product. Then you hear Steve Kerr and
- 17:14Speaker 3: Josh Hart's saying the reason guys are thinking so many
- 17:16Speaker 3: injuries because the season's too long. Well, I'll just tell
- 17:19Speaker 3: you one thing. In his fourteen seasons, Michael Jordan played
- 17:22Speaker 3: eighty plus games eleven times. So I don't buy that crap.
- 17:28Speaker 3: They say that because of the pace of the game,
- 17:30Speaker 3: running up and down the floor, you know, just hoisting
- 17:33Speaker 3: threes and all these runouts. I don't buy that. If
- 17:37Speaker 3: they if they show on the schedule, fine, but I
- 17:42Speaker 3: would make it seventy two. I would have no problem
- 17:44Speaker 3: with seventy two. But don't don't tell me that the
- 17:47Speaker 3: reason we were watching bad games night. I didn't see
- 17:49Speaker 3: the Knicks Dallas game the other night, but from all
- 17:52Speaker 3: reports it was it was horrendous. It was a horrendous game.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And then you have the team eight miles away purposely
- 18:02Speaker 3: looking to win eight or nine games to get one
- 18:05Speaker 3: of these top three or four guys. I mean, the
- 18:08Speaker 3: Nets have the Nets are playing to lose, and how
- 18:13Speaker 3: could the NBA allow that is beyond my comprehension. The
- 18:16Speaker 3: Wizards too. How can you play to get one more
- 18:19Speaker 3: or two more ping pong goals, which still doesn't guarantee
- 18:22Speaker 3: you nothing. Look at the Islanders. They were supposed to
- 18:24Speaker 3: pick tenth and they won the lottery. So first of all,
- 18:29Speaker 3: I would change I would change the NBA lottery, I
- 18:32Speaker 3: really would. I would. I would put and I something
- 18:37Speaker 3: like the teams that don't make the play in the
- 18:41Speaker 3: team with the best record that doesn't make the play
- 18:43Speaker 3: on maybe they should get the they should get the
- 18:45Speaker 3: first pick in the giraffe or the first two teams
- 18:48Speaker 3: that were the best record that missed the play in
- 18:54Speaker 3: toss a coin for the first pick. But a rewarding
- 18:58Speaker 3: losing purpose. And they're charging fans ridiculous amounts of money
- 19:04Speaker 3: for tickets is it is shameful in my opinion, Nicks
- 19:10Speaker 3: have a good now getting back to on the on court,
- 19:11Speaker 3: Knicks have a good team, obviously, the thunder have fantastic team.
- 19:15Speaker 3: The defending champions have only lost one game. I think
- 19:19Speaker 3: Denver obviously is good. But the Knicks are the favorites
- 19:23Speaker 3: in the East obviously. Uh, look at the injuries to
- 19:27Speaker 3: the Pacers. The Pacers have won two games like two
- 19:30Speaker 3: and thirteen, two and fourteen and five months ago they
- 19:33Speaker 3: were in the seventh game of the finals. Things changed quickly,
- 19:39Speaker 3: but uh, well we know, well, we'll see how all
- 19:42Speaker 3: this translate now tanking. Somebody in Detroit will say, well,
- 19:47Speaker 3: we tanked for a couple of years. Two years ago
- 19:50Speaker 3: we won fourteen games. Last year we won forty four
- 19:53Speaker 3: games with Cad Cunningham and a bunch of other good
- 19:56Speaker 3: young players. Uh, we gave the Knicks a great run
- 19:59Speaker 3: in that first round. And now they've wont Alex what
- 20:03Speaker 3: they've won like eleven in a row, eleven in a row.
- 20:05Speaker 2: And of course I met Kate at an event for
- 20:07Speaker 2: New York Fashion Week and now he's like tying Jordan
- 20:10Speaker 2: for record.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I'm like, of course he is, because I know.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I mean, so that's what the Nets are trying to do.
- 20:16Speaker 3: They're trying to do an Oklahoma City due. They're try
- 20:18Speaker 3: and do what Houston two years ago when twenty to
- 20:21Speaker 3: twenty three games.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Uh, and you know, OKC is not relented.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Like they look pretty good too. Now. They tanked, but
- 20:28Speaker 3: they also made a brilliant trade getting SGA from the Clippers.
- 20:33Speaker 3: And I'm sure the Clippers really rude of making that
- 20:38Speaker 3: trade to Shade Guildos. Alexander's sure for the trading. Wow, well, Louis,
- 20:44Speaker 3: this has been a great conversation. As always, I didn't
- 20:48Speaker 3: even feel like getting to basketball in the hall. I'm
- 20:51Speaker 3: glad we went a little bit.
- 20:52Speaker 2: But look, it is, Uh, it's a weird time in
- 20:54Speaker 2: sports because normally we're wanning that Giants team or Jet
- 20:58Speaker 2: team to do well. They're not. We're still in the
- 21:00Speaker 2: early stages of hockey and basketball only at the quarter
- 21:04Speaker 2: pole and so much more to go. But hey, this
- 21:07Speaker 2: is why we talk about it because you never know
- 21:08Speaker 2: there could be little tidbits going on. I see Obi
- 21:11Speaker 2: is continuing to score goals, which is pretty impressive. So
- 21:15Speaker 2: much so I bet Gretzkill come out of retirement at
- 21:18Speaker 2: some point.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Well, he got the he had the hat trick last night,
- 21:22Speaker 3: and alex I'm telling you he's going to score forty
- 21:25Speaker 3: this year. So that's gonna put him like a nine
- 21:27Speaker 3: thirty seven. Nine thirty seven age is just a number,
- 21:31Speaker 3: Louis when it comes to sports like that. Yeah, why
- 21:36Speaker 3: should he retire? Why should why he should try again?
- 21:40Speaker 3: He should try to get hit a thousand goals. I mean,
- 21:44Speaker 3: there's no reason why he shouldn't.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And they could win another cup or two with him there.
- 21:48Speaker 3: So yeah, well one last one, last thing. I know
- 21:51Speaker 3: you started you started the podcast by talking about Larry Brooks.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Obviously he was He was an old fashioned hockey columnists
- 22:01Speaker 3: and I read them all the time. In nineteen eighty two,
- 22:04Speaker 3: when the Devils moved to New Jersey, shortly thereafter he
- 22:08Speaker 3: quit the post and he joined the Devils, and he
- 22:11Speaker 3: was there ten years as the vice president of communications,
- 22:14Speaker 3: the Devil's office and the Nets offices in Brendan at
- 22:17Speaker 3: that time Brendan Bernery in before they changed the Continental
- 22:20Speaker 3: than izod well right next to each other. I never
- 22:25Speaker 3: really had a meaningful conversation. I don't recall, but always
- 22:28Speaker 3: you know said hi, and I mean he for ten
- 22:35Speaker 3: years he worked for the Devils as the VP of communications.
- 22:39Speaker 3: He knew he was also the Devil's radio color commentator
- 22:44Speaker 3: for a lot of those years. I don't think for
- 22:47Speaker 3: all ten years. And Alex, I'm saying this because you're
- 22:51Speaker 3: working there now. The Devil's games in those days were
- 22:54Speaker 3: on WNCA, and he was the color commentator. So I'm
- 22:57Speaker 3: trure I'd give you that little kid bit. And they
- 23:00Speaker 3: moved to w ABC. I don't know if, if if
- 23:03Speaker 3: Larry was still there, but he's a Hall of famer.
- 23:06Speaker 3: He made the Hall of Fame. He knew the collective
- 23:08Speaker 3: bargaining agreement inside that, he knew the Rangers, the Islanders,
- 23:12Speaker 3: and the Devils inside out.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And and you and Ryan made the point that he
- 23:17Speaker 2: saved the Islanders coverage on the Post.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Is that right? Well he might have. I that I
- 23:24Speaker 3: don't know, but he might have. And uh, we're lucky
- 23:28Speaker 3: that we have two great beat riders for uh the
- 23:32Speaker 3: Rangers in Molly Walker and Ethan Sears for the for
- 23:35Speaker 3: the Islanders, I don't know why they don't coover the
- 23:37Speaker 3: Devils anymore like they used to. They should, But but
- 23:41Speaker 3: that's I don't work and work for the New York Post.
- 23:45Speaker 2: But when these this that team moved to Newark, I
- 23:48Speaker 2: swear like it's just I mean Newark Meadowlands.
- 23:52Speaker 3: It's it's the same. But Brooks was one of the
- 23:55Speaker 3: most analytical hockey riders who covered the sport I mean,
- 24:01Speaker 3: and he worked at his craft, so uh, anybody who
- 24:07Speaker 3: is trying to emulate him should really look at at
- 24:10Speaker 3: his career closely. But he did he did everything so.
- 24:14Speaker 2: It's funny me and see you have the same story
- 24:15Speaker 2: of our dad's giving us the paper and just we
- 24:18Speaker 2: go right to Larry Brooks and hearing what he had
- 24:20Speaker 2: a right you know.
- 24:21Speaker 3: See, No, I mean, you know you want to talk
- 24:23Speaker 3: about it and we'll wrap up. I know you got
- 24:25Speaker 3: to go. It's the whole industry has changed. Yes, we
- 24:30Speaker 3: we go uh uh, we go to the app, the
- 24:34Speaker 3: ESPN app, the athletic app. But in those days you
- 24:38Speaker 3: had basketball writers, baseball writers, Dick Young, Pete Vessi, Dave
- 24:43Speaker 3: Delessandro with the Star, Ledger, U Tim Moriarity with Newsday
- 24:49Speaker 3: who covered the Islanders inside, how Jerry Eskenazi at the Times. Uh,
- 24:55Speaker 3: you know, it's just different now. And Larry Breed was
- 25:00Speaker 3: Larry Brooks was last of a dying breed. Unfortunately, you
- 25:05Speaker 3: know that we don't have And I missed that. I'll
- 25:08Speaker 3: admit it. I missed that. Those kind of columns you
- 25:11Speaker 3: had Bill Madden in baseball. I mean you can go
- 25:13Speaker 3: on and on, we could talk about we can mention
- 25:16Speaker 3: fifty guys.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Uh you know, yeah, No, it's it's a lot, all right, Louis.
- 25:23Speaker 2: This was insightful and I know our hockey fans are
- 25:25Speaker 2: gonna love the hockey talk today on the One ling
- 25:28Speaker 2: Up Network and of course the tribute to Larry Brooks.
- 25:32Speaker 2: But hopefully we'll have some more content to talk about
- 25:34Speaker 2: because we haven't even touched MLB.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Free agency yet.
- 25:37Speaker 2: That's going to be a bar and burner. I think
- 25:39Speaker 2: in December we were a busy month ahead. My irish
- 25:42Speaker 2: here about ninth or eight, you know, a little higher
- 25:44Speaker 2: than ninth ranked in.
- 25:45Speaker 3: The college football playoffs. It looks pretty good, so we Yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 3: I think they'll be in. They'll be in. Yeah, the
- 25:51Speaker 3: Notre Dame will be in.
- 25:53Speaker 2: And if I don't talk to you before, then happy Thanksgiving, Louie.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And I've asked you this before, and maybe you know,
- 25:59Speaker 2: let's say, wait, we'll do a Terminal's take before Thanksgiving.
- 26:02Speaker 2: You rehash for us your favorite things Giving memory, because
- 26:06Speaker 2: I know you have a few.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I do and that'll be great. I'll be around all right,
- 26:11Speaker 3: Terminalo's take for this week.
- 26:13Speaker 2: After a couple of weeks of business, we've reconnected here
- 26:17Speaker 2: on the One look Up Network.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Thanks again, Louis, Thank you, Alex. Always a pleasure, appreciate it.
