Transcript
- 0:00Hello listeners and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:04I'm Luke and this is my wife Amber.
- 0:06We are the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:08The count and Countess of contention.
- 0:10The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:13And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:15We have been together since Justin and Brittany were still a
- 0:18couple. We have argued about practically
- 0:21everything, and yet we've outlasted them.
- 0:24We have a great teenager whose friends don't even think we're
- 0:27all that lame, and most of our families still like us.
- 0:31In this entertainment only podcast, we will bicker about
- 0:34all things big and small and the audience gets the final say on
- 0:38who the winner is. We don't claim to be
- 0:41relationship experts by any means.
- 0:44We will debate lots of things, many of which are frequently
- 0:47submitted by our listeners. So if you have a topic you want
- 0:50us non professionals to battle over before you try it at home,
- 0:53please send it to us at arguinguporafter@gmail.com.
- 0:58Perhaps this completely unscientific method of letting
- 1:01the masses decide who is right can settle your fight before you
- 1:06even have it. So here we go.
- 1:11Yes, this is our very 4th episode folks.
- 1:15We are so excited that we have made it to this major milestone
- 1:20in podcasting. Which it really is a major
- 1:23milestone. Yes.
- 1:25There's been some research which suggests that most podcasts
- 1:28don't make it past the 3rd episode.
- 1:30So we're in the top 50% folks already of being a podcast.
- 1:35So go us. That's awesome.
- 1:38And a lot of that is because we have a few listeners.
- 1:43And a couple people that are followers.
- 1:45I don't know what the difference is, but we're excited about all
- 1:47of it. We're very excited about it.
- 1:49As a matter of fact, we have a couple special shout outs.
- 1:52The first one is to our 25th follower, who knows who they
- 1:57are. Thank you so much.
- 1:59It was awesome. And the feedback we've been
- 2:03getting from like, surprisingly, people who aren't as old as we
- 2:08are, like the youth, the youths, the youths.
- 2:12The youths. Like, you know, I mean, they've
- 2:16been really engaged in it. And so it's pretty awesome.
- 2:20As a matter of fact, while we've been working through how to run
- 2:24this podcast because we don't know, we're like we said
- 2:27everywhere, non professional, we've done like maybe 2 minutes
- 2:31of research. We were, we've been trying to
- 2:35decide what our flow is. And one special sleuth listener
- 2:41named Aurora realized that we are dropping our episodes on
- 2:46Tuesdays. So way to go.
- 2:48Thank you so much for being a loyal listener and we hope to
- 2:52keep up that for you. So we've been really enjoying
- 2:56our engagement. Indeed, and not that I'll try to
- 2:59get too off topic every once in a while, I'm going to.
- 3:02I'm gonna have to resist a lot every once in a while.
- 3:04I can't help it. This being Episode 4, I just
- 3:06need to reference that that was one of the finest movies ever
- 3:09made, Star Wars A New Hope. Oh my gosh, Episode we have
- 3:13needs to come up with the Star Wars thing.
- 3:15I feel like it's. So far, I just needed to throw
- 3:18that in there and carrying on, that's not what we're talking
- 3:21about today. Today we're talking about
- 3:23something totally unrelated. Completely unrelated.
- 3:26And we also one of the things we asked for, like we did at the
- 3:31top of our episode is for listeners to submit ideas.
- 3:35We do have our own list, but we want to know what you all want
- 3:38to hear. And a listener gave us very a
- 3:44very timely topic. And so I'm really excited about
- 3:48that because, well, the other day we did have some issues.
- 3:54This. This is about dishes, people.
- 3:58Everyone's got dishes, and I would be willing to bet that
- 4:01every couple that exists and every parent child relationship
- 4:05that's ever existed had a dishes argument at some point.
- 4:12And we were, when we got together and moved into our
- 4:16first house, we were very fortunate in our first house
- 4:18that we lived in for like, you know, a minute, it had a
- 4:21dishwasher. And the apartments that we.
- 4:23Rented. Oh, the apartments too.
- 4:24Yeah, we must have lived in some luxury living spaces.
- 4:28To have apartments, just know that like if you don't provide a
- 4:33dishwasher, it's going to be a problem.
- 4:35Yeah, you'll have people with disgusting dishes, dirty dishes
- 4:38everywhere. Like we had.
- 4:40Sometimes, I guess, I mean you have roommates and one of you
- 4:44might know. Dog and the roommates.
- 4:49Boom. But definitely we we don't, we
- 4:53don't allow that anymore. But for a long time we lived in
- 4:57a house that didn't have a dishwasher.
- 5:00So anyone out there hand washing dishes because you have to, not
- 5:03because you feel like you want to and we feel you 13 years we
- 5:07lived that life. It was rough, it was rough, but
- 5:12it did teach us that we like well, taught me that an empty
- 5:16sink means I don't need to stress anymore.
- 5:20So I'm really always like, that's always my main thing is
- 5:23let's get the dishes into the dishwasher.
- 5:26But washing by hand, my dishes were always the cleanest, right?
- 5:31And that's, that's kind of an like I, it's a trade off, right?
- 5:36Like if I wash by hand or maybe I have to throw 7 dishes back in
- 5:39the dishwasher, I'll throw 7 dishes back in the dishwasher
- 5:41for sure. But I was watching this thing
- 5:44on, I don't know, one of the, one of the TV, not TV, one of
- 5:47the Internet streaming things. And there was this, this thing
- 5:52about what Americans do. And really it's actually I did,
- 5:54I did a little bit of research that they don't do in certain
- 5:58parts of the world. And did you know that in some
- 6:03parts of the world, and you can look it up, they wash their dish
- 6:09with the soap and put it in the drying rack.
- 6:13No rinsing whatsoever. Why would you do that?
- 6:16It would taste like soap. Well, that's what I thought too,
- 6:19but clearly if it if it like this is a very common practice,
- 6:22it can't taste that much like soap.
- 6:24We've been lied to. I don't, I don't, I don't hold
- 6:28with that because I've had dishes that didn't taste rinsed
- 6:32even out of the dishwasher. That's like on hot water blast
- 6:36for who knows how long. I still every once in awhile
- 6:39think I taste soap in a glass. I'm like, oh, I got to put it
- 6:42back through. It's mind blowing, isn't it, to
- 6:44think that there's people who does that.
- 6:45OK, so one day we might have a listener from one of these
- 6:50places. So I'm not insulting you.
- 6:51I'm just like, wow, like that's wonderful that you're not using
- 6:55it. But they're parts of the UK and
- 6:58the Dutch and maybe not all of them.
- 7:00I'm promising you it's not all of them, but if you're
- 7:02interested in the fact that this is the thing that actually
- 7:04happens, I mean, I was certain when I we.
- 7:07Should reach out to our friend who lived in the Netherlands.
- 7:09Yeah, well, ask her. Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:11And see what she thinks now. I was thinking though, I mean,
- 7:16that's a great trick to just not have to do that.
- 7:18I'm kind of on board. If we ever don't have a
- 7:21dishwasher again I I might try it because I was always told
- 7:26that if you didn't rinse the soap off a it's going to taste
- 7:28like soap but more importantly you're going to get sick and
- 7:32that's clearly not a case. Maybe.
- 7:35Like we'll we'll soap after taste with their food.
- 7:39You know, they might be used to it.
- 7:40They might be used to it. They also might be.
- 7:43I did think maybe they're using different soap, but everything I
- 7:46could do in my very extensive research did not say that their
- 7:51soaps were any different. You'd tell me you went to like
- 7:54Wikipedia or? No, I didn't do that.
- 7:56I didn't do that. That's deep research.
- 7:58There, that's deep. No, no, no, no.
- 7:59I was just like I did actually type in my Google search soap
- 8:04used, you know, ingredients in the soap and all that.
- 8:08But I'm. Coming into this with no
- 8:09research. I know I really, I really
- 8:12studied up for you all. We are giving you the best
- 8:16knowledge of two minutes of quick Internet searching and I
- 8:20just was blown away. And anyone who's listening, who
- 8:23maybe has been told that they have to rinse.
- 8:25I don't do it everywhere so. Don't tell your parents that we
- 8:29said it. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:30Or your spouses. Or.
- 8:32Yeah, it's not coming. From anybody really not coming
- 8:34from we're not giving advice about how to do dishes or rinse
- 8:37them. We are not professionals in that
- 8:39either. Not at all.
- 8:42But you were talking about funny taste.
- 8:43And actually right before this, I grabbed my water bottle and I
- 8:47took a drink out of it and I was like, oh, that water is bad.
- 8:50And I mean, I think we all know that there's bad water, right?
- 8:57That if it sits out for too long, it becomes undrinkable.
- 9:00But nothing changed in it, right?
- 9:02Like it's in a sealed container. It wasn't sitting for so long
- 9:06that there would be any mold. But like, I just couldn't.
- 9:10I'm like, oh, oh, can't drink it.
- 9:11It was awful. It was disgusting.
- 9:13And so, you know, that's the stuff you feed to your plants or
- 9:15just throw down the drain. But how does water go bad?
- 9:20I don't even know. I mean, I guess technically if
- 9:23it doesn't move, doesn't it always kind of go bad?
- 9:26I don't know, but that sounds like a scientist job to tell us
- 9:30we have any scientists out there.
- 9:33Put it in the comments for us and we'll probably read them.
- 9:36I got a favorite quote from like a old Greek guy that said
- 9:39something like the mixture which is not shaken decomposes deep.
- 9:45Maybe he knows. Deep, Very deep for you all.
- 9:49I try to keep it. Who is that thought provoking?
- 9:52Around here, OK, but now are we going to be educational?
- 9:54Who said it? I'm not going to pronounce it
- 9:56right because I don't speak ancient Greek, but Heraclitus.
- 10:00Oh, OK, I'll trust you. I have no idea.
- 10:02Or Heraclitus. Sorry, put you on the spot, I
- 10:05realized after I said. That there's any Greek people
- 10:07out there, I apologize. Yeah.
- 10:09We're just defending people left and right to.
- 10:11Trying to, I mean, we, we don't have many international
- 10:17listeners yet and they might one day join.
- 10:20We have one that's really, really fun.
- 10:23So shout out to Germany. And I don't know, we've really,
- 10:29like I said earlier, though, we've been kind of blown away by
- 10:32the support. So it's been fun to see where
- 10:34people come from who are listening and getting into this.
- 10:40But we were, we were talking about dishes.
- 10:44We were talking about the the dishwashing and the soap and all
- 10:50of that. And one of the things, though,
- 10:52where this really came from, when this listener had told us
- 10:55about this topic, why it was so timely, was because less than
- 11:01two hours beforehand, Luke lost his mind.
- 11:06He opened the dishwasher, took one look and said Nope, walked
- 11:11away. Angry.
- 11:13I did. I think I actually said Nope,
- 11:16I'm out. How do you people live like
- 11:18this? Yes.
- 11:19So I mean, can you explain why you were so upset about looking
- 11:25in a dishwasher? I certainly can.
- 11:27And let me just say this comes from a place of my very, very
- 11:34deep past because I grew up with no dishwashers that we used in
- 11:38my houses. My mom and my dad, they didn't
- 11:41have a dishwasher. The dishwasher was me and my
- 11:44brothers. That's who the dishwasher was.
- 11:47So it was always like trying to do everything in a confined
- 11:52space, the sink and you had, you know, like, I mean, everyone has
- 11:57a dish rack that has no dishwasher and they're little.
- 12:00So you got to fit everything all just right.
- 12:03Because if you don't, where are you going to put your stuff?
- 12:06You put it on the counter on top of towels.
- 12:09Well, sure, but there's only so much counter space when you got
- 12:11a family anyways. So part of part of my desire to
- 12:17have things in the dishwasher in a certain way probably come
- 12:20somewhat from that. And it is my belief that the
- 12:25dishwasher's primary function is to be full and clean the dishes
- 12:31and that that's the only way to do it.
- 12:34So we had a bunch of talks about like what the right way or wrong
- 12:40way might be. And I think we've fairly solidly
- 12:45determined that we disagree in what that might look like.
- 12:51And it doesn't surprise me because I happen to be a tidier
- 12:58of things in general. Now you're going to have a
- 13:02counter for that, but. I mean.
- 13:06But I like to straighten things out and put them in little
- 13:09stacks, and somehow that helps things make sense to me.
- 13:12So I think the dishes are also a byproduct of that sort of
- 13:15thinking. Well, I think that the
- 13:18dishwasher tells you how to put things into it, right?
- 13:21I mean, we again fortunate enough to have one, that
- 13:24silverware tray thing, it tells you essentially that your things
- 13:29only going to fit certain ways. So as long as you're within the
- 13:33ways that it tells you can fit, you know, you're fine.
- 13:36That was not OK for Luke. Not the silver.
- 13:39I don't even know if he looked at the silverware thing, but,
- 13:41you know, he just looked and said, this is not organized in
- 13:44the way I think it should be organized.
- 13:47And I just, I, I couldn't believe how instantly triggered
- 13:52he was by just opening it up and it not being the way that he
- 13:58thinks it should be. Now, we do have a total of three
- 14:01people in our house who are putting dishes in the
- 14:03dishwasher. I'm just grateful when they go
- 14:07into the dishwasher and not into the sink.
- 14:09So if you can fit it, it's good. That's all it needs to be done.
- 14:16Fit it without, like overlapping.
- 14:18I'm good with that, you know. That's a fairpoint you make
- 14:22about getting them into the dishwasher, yes.
- 14:24That's why is that so hard? That's a struggle in life to put
- 14:28them in the dip for some people. Yes, in our household there is
- 14:32at least one who has that issue. But then the other really
- 14:35important part of a dishwasher that I will say is my pet peeve
- 14:41is the fact that once it's done, you know what happens.
- 14:45They got to get put. Away they do.
- 14:46They have to be put away. However, in my household, it's
- 14:52like everyone pretends like they can't see that the dishes are
- 14:55clean. And when I say everyone, I mean
- 14:58everyone but me. And they'll be sitting there and
- 15:02I'll know in the morning because I like to wash my dishes at
- 15:05night. So in the morning we have all
- 15:07the clean dishes that we need. But somehow in the, in the time
- 15:11frame when people get up, have their breakfast early and all of
- 15:15that, they never look to see if the dishwasher that has ran
- 15:20every single night is possibly clean.
- 15:24Nope, they don't. They throw it in the sink.
- 15:27And now this is all but me because I again, like I said,
- 15:31don't like seeing dirty dishes in the sink.
- 15:34So now in the summer, we tried summer.
- 15:37Gosh, this sounds awful. But like in the summer, we try
- 15:40to make sure our kid does chores.
- 15:42And so I, so I try to wait until, you know, she's up to and
- 15:49empty it out. But Oh my God, it's so hard.
- 15:53Like just knowing that there's dishes in there and they're not
- 15:55put away and just waiting for her to wake up to do that.
- 16:00And every time I walk by, I see that light and it just, it just
- 16:03grates on me. I'm like, how, how are we doing
- 16:06this? But when it's not that time, you
- 16:08know, of course I know that my husband's already left for the
- 16:12day. Chances are knowing I know he
- 16:15had breakfast and he knew because he does not put dirty
- 16:20dishes into the sink if there's the dishwasher is not clean.
- 16:25So he's purposefully made a choice to not empty the
- 16:28dishwasher and wait for me to do it, which is a little.
- 16:34Doesn't necessarily mean that I'm waiting for you to do it.
- 16:38That's just how you're taking it.
- 16:40I will say this, I don't have a whole lot of free time in the
- 16:45morning because I have a lot to do and I have a long commute so
- 16:50I'm not like I'm almost never early to work.
- 16:54I'm never early to work. That's fine, you just happen to
- 16:58work from home so it might annoy you more because you see it
- 17:01more. So like if you just waited, I'll
- 17:04probably put them away when I got home.
- 17:06But it never gets that far because I think you've decided
- 17:09that it's time for them to get put away, which is fair, but I
- 17:12don't have the extra 3 to 5 minutes that it takes to put
- 17:16away the dishes. 3 to 5 minutes. No joke.
- 17:20That is not that. I make hard choices in the
- 17:22morning. It's not that long.
- 17:25It's not. Sometimes the choice is do I
- 17:27have time to eat? Sometimes I don't.
- 17:30Well, I think that that's a a simple thing.
- 17:33And I'm sure that there are other people out there who feel
- 17:36the the pain of knowing that people have seen that there are
- 17:41clean dishes and they've just ignored them, let them sit there
- 17:46until another time. And that is unfair.
- 17:48The real truth is the one person in this house with the most free
- 17:52time should be the one putting that stuff away, and it's not
- 17:55you and it's not me. Well, OK, I mean when.
- 17:58Even when school is on, she's only in school from like 7:00 to
- 18:022:00 or something like that. Ain't even full time.
- 18:05Let's go put her to work. I mean, we do, we try to, you
- 18:09know, However, there's also the things that how things get put
- 18:13away and, and being having things get put into the right
- 18:17spot is. Oh, you don't like that?
- 18:19I don't like when things are. Like the mystery of where is
- 18:22that one spoon that I was looking for just today, Just
- 18:27today. I'm like, you literally pulled
- 18:30this out of this drawer and yet you chose to put it into another
- 18:35drawer. Who does that?
- 18:37Our child does. It's so easy to put it back
- 18:40where it should go from where you pulled it from.
- 18:44But the other thing too is like the the it's people putting pots
- 18:50and pans. Oh, another thing, some people
- 18:52won't wash their pots and pans in the dishwasher.
- 18:55That's true. And I remember when I was young,
- 18:59we had to wash all of our pots and pans by hand.
- 19:02And I just have decided I'm not doing any of that work.
- 19:07I mean again if my sometimes. You need to though if it's like
- 19:13cheese or something like there's some stuff.
- 19:15Off so easy in the dishwasher. Well, some stuff we still do by.
- 19:20Hand very no. My rule is if I can't fit it in
- 19:22the dishwasher then I'd do it by hand.
- 19:25Otherwise I throw it in there. So we should get rid of that one
- 19:28cookie. Shake no.
- 19:29We need that. It's I hate it.
- 19:32We absolutely need it. It's so big.
- 19:35No, it's not that big. I mean, it's big, but it needs
- 19:38to be big for its job. We have another one that's even
- 19:40larger and you have no problem with that one.
- 19:42It's because. That one has the right covering
- 19:45on it, the nonstick, which is great for making all kinds of
- 19:48cookies. Yes.
- 19:49I love cookies. It's like a double batch cookie
- 19:51sheet, you know, more like industrial size cookie sheets.
- 19:55So the other thing people won't put in there and I've I've been
- 19:59told the problem I have is because I put them into the
- 20:01dishwasher is knives like actual.
- 20:04Oh yeah, the knife sharpening folks tell you that that the
- 20:08dishwasher heat makes them dull or something like.
- 20:11Yeah, I mean. Maybe it's the water, maybe it's
- 20:13both. I don't actually.
- 20:14I don't know. We have dull knives frequently,
- 20:16but I am not willing to sacrifice the time it takes to
- 20:20wash them by hand. See, you're making choices too 3
- 20:23to 5 minutes. I'm just saying.
- 20:24Well, I never see you wash knives so.
- 20:28I made that same sacrifice. Yes, yes, But we definitely have
- 20:36our own things about it. And it's, it's amazing how
- 20:41different, you know, when we were washing by hand, like I
- 20:44said earlier, how, how clean the dishes got, but they also didn't
- 20:49get all the weird little Nicks and stuff and all that that
- 20:52happens on dishes. Our dishes we have right now are
- 20:56sold that they're really badly in need of replacements.
- 21:04For the listener, just just to clear the air, she's talking
- 21:08about our dishes like plates, bowls, yes, small plates,
- 21:13glasses, because she gave me this dirty look.
- 21:16If you're not watching, we should start explaining to the
- 21:18people. The eyeballs that I got were hot
- 21:21fire because we've had the same dishes since before we got
- 21:28married, which was. We've had the same dishes in
- 21:331999. I don't know when something
- 21:37becomes an antique, but I'm pretty sure we're about there.
- 21:41If it was a car, I think it could get collector.
- 21:44Plates, right, collector plates. But Luke will not hop on board
- 21:51getting new plates and. Because they still are a plate,
- 21:56so it serves the plate function of being plate like.
- 22:00OK. But the bowls also serve the
- 22:02bowl function. We've had several bowls break.
- 22:06The plates will not break. I will tell you if you want a
- 22:09break a plate that will never ever break to save yourself
- 22:14money for the absolute rest of your life, perfect.
- 22:18Get Corel abundance pattern and you will never need to buy a new
- 22:25plate again. You're going to want.
- 22:28To I'm just going to plug our future sponsors, Corel don't
- 22:31send us more of those because she'll hate.
- 22:33I want a different design, just something else, just.
- 22:35Want to put. That I'm not.
- 22:36I won't buy Corel because your stuff doesn't freaking break she
- 22:40wants. It to break so she.
- 22:42Can I would like something new? I've talked about this with
- 22:45friends and they they've said that I should be able to get
- 22:48some new plates. We had a friend come over to our
- 22:50house who is not that much younger than us, and he looked
- 22:56at me. He's like, Oh, my mom used to
- 22:58have your plates. That's how old they are.
- 23:00Yeah. His mom used to have those
- 23:03plates and. She had great taste.
- 23:05Yeah, and they were they. There's just.
- 23:07I mean, you did. I did 20.
- 23:09Five years ago. 25 years ago and it's OK after 25 years to get
- 23:16something. New I mean, I think you say this
- 23:19like I got you under lock and key.
- 23:21I don't I mean, I don't like you have a job.
- 23:23You could technically buy it. I just think that it's a silly.
- 23:27Expense now when? We have functional plates.
- 23:30This is been recorded, it is enshrined.
- 23:34It's that I now have proof that I can get dishes that I want.
- 23:41Without one of our other topics in the future is when do you
- 23:44need to consult your spouse at what dollar amount and and make
- 23:47that part of the discussion. So totally fine.
- 23:50But I imagine a series of plates the the length of which we have,
- 23:54which is like a lot of plates and bowls we have people over.
- 23:59We would have an expense that would be worthy of the
- 24:01discussion. So that's all I'm saying.
- 24:04OK, but I'm saying I have proof that when when I get those.
- 24:08I'm willing to have that discussion.
- 24:12You're willing to. That's right.
- 24:13OK, OK. Yes, that's amazing.
- 24:18Very, very good of you. This chivalry is just oozing.
- 24:21Oh, it is. So, Luke, let me ask you a
- 24:24question. Oh, and now the moment you've
- 24:28all been waiting for in this corner, we have Amber claiming
- 24:34to weigh in at 135 lbs. Yeah.
- 24:38And with now a record of two wins and one loss.
- 24:43Because I won the last episode, people, that's what I'm talking
- 24:48about. Let's make it 2.
- 24:49Maybe this episode. She has over 25 years of
- 24:54practice in the art of insignificant lover spats,
- 24:56including plate wear. And she is armed with her
- 25:00amazing hair, which she will need today.
- 25:03Amazing hair. It's so amazing.
- 25:06OK, look at it. In this corner we have Luke at
- 25:08his prime weight of 150. Oh yeah, 150 when I was 10.
- 25:14No 185 lbs and sporting a luxurious red beard.
- 25:20Which I've recently trimmed. He's been arguing since he was
- 25:23born to his very competitive family and Luke has finally
- 25:28achieved one win. But don't forget you got 2
- 25:32losses. So tell us Luke, what do you
- 25:40really think is the right way to load a dishwasher?
- 25:46And is there a right way to load a dishwasher?
- 25:51Well, OK. And yes, I believe there is a
- 25:57right way to load the dishwasher.
- 26:00Now. We'll start with some of the
- 26:02Givens. I think this would hold across
- 26:05all people who have dishwashers that you got to put the
- 26:08silverware in, the little thing the silverware goes in.
- 26:12I think everyone's going to agree on that.
- 26:15There's also on the, well, most of them it's I've only ever seen
- 26:19it on the bottom. Maybe there's some that got it
- 26:20on the top. The plates have their little
- 26:23section where you put the plates in and they go all side by side.
- 26:27And I think those are maybe maybe the only two Givens, but
- 26:31those are for sure Givens. I think across the spectrum of
- 26:34dishwashers, no, there's. Mostly.
- 26:38Other stuff that like has always been the way for me, like in
- 26:43places where we have had a dishwasher or where I've seen
- 26:45them used, Generally speaking, it seems like if there's a
- 26:48cookie sheet that fits because we talked about the giant cookie
- 26:52sheets we have that don't fit. But if there's a cookie sheet
- 26:54that fits, you put that on the left side up against the
- 26:58dishwasher wall on the bottom rack, generally speaking.
- 27:03And then there's all kinds of different like dishwasher
- 27:06specialty things that have come out lately that I don't really
- 27:09fully understand or jive with. But like my mom says, a like a
- 27:12tray above the upper tray that's for like, I think it's like
- 27:17knives and long things. I don't really understand If we
- 27:19don't have that, we have a like little super jets in the top,
- 27:24the top rack on the right side, which I don't know what those
- 27:27are for. They're for cups.
- 27:28They're for cups, OK, There's only four of them.
- 27:31So that's ridiculous because like we have more than four.
- 27:34I mean, who doesn't anyways? So outside of specialty
- 27:38dishwasher things and the Gibbons, which I think maybe are
- 27:41across the board, my general answer to how to load a
- 27:46dishwasher is first, it should be all the way full.
- 27:51And what that means is for me, if I've got like our dishwasher
- 27:57holds about 3 bowls lengthwise on the top rack and has like
- 28:03234, it has like 5 across. So you could fit technically
- 28:08like 15 bowls. So if I were to open the top
- 28:12rack of the dishwasher like I did last Saturday and see like 4
- 28:19bowls haphazardly occupying the entirety of somehow 4 entire
- 28:25rows of the top rack, and then see our child put another one on
- 28:31top of the other bowls themselves, that would be cause
- 28:36for concern in my way to properly load a dishwasher.
- 28:39I would line them up and stack them so that I had more room to
- 28:41put in future dishes. And then the the rest of it,
- 28:46sort of like a like a advanced Tetris match.
- 28:49It's can I put all of the pots and the pans and the plates and
- 28:53the bowls and the cups and the water bottles and the big knives
- 28:57and the big spatulas and the, the, the, the baking glass
- 29:03sheets things, the like, what's it called a cake pan?
- 29:06I don't know all it can I fit all the stuff in?
- 29:10And then when I fit as much as I can fit in there, so long as
- 29:13it's all Tetris and not overlapping, then I'm good And I
- 29:17start the dishwasher. So that's for me the correct way
- 29:21to load a dishwasher. And there's not a lot of
- 29:25exception to that. I don't think that I would like
- 29:27put less in. I certainly wouldn't try to put
- 29:30more in, but I would also wait, which I think is one of the
- 29:34differences is like if there's still room for enough, like let.
- 29:40I'm not saying don't start the dishwasher if there's room for
- 29:43one more bowl, but like if I've got another spare row where I
- 29:47could put two or three bowls, well that might be breakfast the
- 29:50next day with cereal and yogurt or something like that.
- 29:52Or maybe I got room for 3-4 more plates.
- 29:55Well, that's that's dinner. So I might leave that open and
- 29:57not start the dishwasher. And for me that is the correct
- 30:01way to load a dishwasher. OK, I hear what you're saying on
- 30:07some of it. Now.
- 30:10I'm going to say anytime I'm going to get a win right here
- 30:13with my daughter, Anytime a dish makes it into the dishwasher,
- 30:17that's a win for a teen. Thank you for getting it in
- 30:22there. Even if it's upside down, inside
- 30:24out, on the wrong track, even like if it's I don't care.
- 30:27You made it in there. That's a win.
- 30:29We are going to celebrate that. We don't have to celebrate.
- 30:32That I'm celebrating it. That's where they go.
- 30:35But I think really, if it fits, if it's not like going to not
- 30:42get washed, who cares? Life is too short to spend any
- 30:48amount of time fussing about how a dishwasher is for me.
- 30:54Now, again, I remember the awful times of having to wash all of
- 31:01those dishes. And you know, maybe it's, it's a
- 31:04little bit of a response. I have to see dishes in the sink
- 31:06and think about that's just work.
- 31:08That's work on on my plate, no pun intended.
- 31:12Oh my goodness. Yes, you're welcome.
- 31:15It's work on my plate that I don't want.
- 31:18I just like why? Why?
- 31:19I just can't get into the dishwasher immediately and then
- 31:23I don't care if it's half full because I know in the future,
- 31:27not too far, we don't have one of those, you know, industrial
- 31:31sized dishwashers. We're going to need to run it
- 31:34again or we're going to run out of dishes and all those things.
- 31:38And that's way worse to me, running out of dishes.
- 31:40Just yesterday we ran out of forks and that was pretty awful.
- 31:45I did not enjoy not having forks.
- 31:48I mean, luckily we have a different kind of fork, but you
- 31:52know, I mean, I that's a deeper into that silverware drawer than
- 31:55I wanted to go. So I just think if it's in
- 31:58there, if the machine can do its job, it's good enough.
- 32:04And again, if it misses something not the end of the
- 32:08world, it can go right back in. So my answer is mostly no,
- 32:16there's not a right way. There's a few wrong ways, but
- 32:20there's not one right way to load a dishwasher.
- 32:26OK, just a couple little I got to recap.
- 32:28A couple things. Because I can't resist.
- 32:31First of all, one of the reasons we ran out of forks was because
- 32:35we ate a lot of cake because it was my birthday.
- 32:39It was I. Just want to point that out.
- 32:41OK, but no birthday votes. No birthday votes.
- 32:44That's why you birthday shares. You don't have to vote for my.
- 32:46Birthday shares. But cake is delicious and that's
- 32:49why we ran out of forks. And like she said, we have other
- 32:52forks because we have like a whole nother suite.
- 32:54This is probably another thing you want to replace is
- 32:56silverware. But we have a normal set of
- 32:59silverware and then we have with the tiny forks or with a salad
- 33:02fork. Is that right?
- 33:03Yes, appetizer forks, I don't know.
- 33:04We got littler forks, but there's still forks and fully
- 33:07functional and there's like 10 to 20.
- 33:09I don't actually know how many 12 second twelve.
- 33:13One of the reasons I completely fill a dishwasher.
- 33:17This is probably from my dad probably is conservation of
- 33:22water. Now his motivation would be
- 33:26because he's cheap and the likelihood he's ever going to
- 33:29watch this is really look like little.
- 33:31So dad, if you ever watch this, I'm sorry that I called you
- 33:33cheap, but you are cheap as hell.
- 33:35Now the other good reason to load the dishwasher to conserve
- 33:41water aside from saving money, which who knows, maybe it's
- 33:44pennies, but but the other reason is if you use less water
- 33:48in your home, you're consuming less of the natural.
- 33:51Oh my gosh, he does not even care about this.
- 33:55Put that out there. Does not care about this, he
- 33:57takes like hour long shower. I do not.
- 34:00He will wash 2 shirts at a time, so let's just say.
- 34:05Just the really sweaty ones. Yeah, let's just say that.
- 34:08That car is partially hybrid. OK, here we go man.
- 34:13It's. OK, come at me.
- 34:14I'm this. I'm done.
- 34:14I rest my K I'm sorry. Go ahead.
- 34:18I'm just. What you got?
- 34:20I I'm telling you, as long as they're washed, that's the
- 34:24important function of a dishwasher.
- 34:26If it's not full, not the end of the world.
- 34:29We don't need to lose our mind over, you know, someone maybe
- 34:33stacking the dish wrong. We could, I mean like it's, it's
- 34:37not like I, I think that perhaps it might be causing you a little
- 34:44more stress to think that there's a right way than if you
- 34:47were to just say the right way is that it's turned on soap in
- 34:52there. Let's make sure the soap gets in
- 34:54there and that it can do its job.
- 34:56I feel like that would save some stress for you and so.
- 35:00Let it go like Elsa. Yes, yes, let it go and just
- 35:06accept that if it's turned on and if it can run, it's the
- 35:09right way. And for anyone out there who's
- 35:13thinking no, there is Amber's wrong, I might be, but it's so
- 35:21much nicer to just let it go and let it run and then put it away
- 35:29quickly because Oh my God, why does it need to sit in a
- 35:33freaking dishwasher for a day and 1/2 for it to get put away?
- 35:37So that is my rebuttal. Now everyone, if you would like
- 35:45to vote, the best way to do it is through the polls on Spotify,
- 35:49which if you don't know by now, Spotify is free.
- 35:55And then if you feel really super strongly about either one
- 35:59of our arguments or not at all. Either way, if you ever even if
- 36:04you listen to this, hit the follow and then share our show
- 36:09with your friends and families. Or give it a link and a or a
- 36:14download. If you want, you can listen to
- 36:16these more than one time. You could, I mean, I know I have
- 36:19had to listen to them more than once.
- 36:21You're welcome for my wonderful editing skills.
- 36:25And but it's, it's just been, it's been a lot of fun.
- 36:30I know earlier we talked about our listeners and I again want
- 36:33to just like big shout out big thank you.
- 36:36It's been really fun. And and like it's, if nothing
- 36:41else, I'll tell you all this. When you listen like or follow
- 36:46or anything like that, you have put a smile on somebody's face.
- 36:51Mine and. So far, no money in our pocket.
- 36:54This is just about support and love.
- 36:56For fun, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:58So you have. Speaking of support, just
- 37:01briefly, okay, we're currently working on with a friend of the
- 37:05podcast, some theme music, some some background song action.
- 37:10We still got a lot to work on as far as like cutting it in and
- 37:13figuring it out, but something for people to look forward to in
- 37:16the future. We're definitely excited about
- 37:18it. Yeah.
- 37:19And I don't know, maybe I'll figure out a way to go back and
- 37:21I don't know how to add it in, but we'll, we'll, we'll learn
- 37:25all of that again. That's one of the great, great
- 37:27things we've gotten from this is we're building and enhancing
- 37:32relationships. And I'm just really grateful
- 37:36that you all have decided to take the time, that you could
- 37:39have been doing anything else to listen.
- 37:42Our special selves are you. And, and hopefully, you know,
- 37:46next time you're doing dishes or loading or unloading, you know,
- 37:50hey, streamos, you can do it, get it all done at the same
- 37:53time, you know, or if you make your kids do your dishes, like
- 37:57it happened to my house growing up when we didn't have a
- 38:00dishwasher, we did eventually get 1.
- 38:03So I'm going to say I was that bougie kid, but, you know, turn
- 38:07it on for them. You know, they'll, they'll hear,
- 38:09they'll maybe get a few special, special bits of advice from not
- 38:13you. And it's a lot easier to learn
- 38:16something from someone else than your own parents.
- 38:18And, and if you like a dishwasher, set up a specific
- 38:23way. And if Luke's way sounds right
- 38:25to you, then this is a free lesson for you and your
- 38:29children. So again, thank you.
- 38:33And we look forward to the more things that are coming.
- 38:35And we're we really will be very excited to share the new sounds
- 38:39that we will have soon. Heck yeah.
- 38:42So again, if you have any ideas for the podcast, please submit
- 38:46them to arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 38:50Thank you. Bye y'all, thanks.
