- 0:00SPEAKER_09: From the peaks of the smokies to the banks of the Mississippi.
- 0:06SPEAKER_09: This is your hall for the University of Tennessee.
- 0:21SPEAKER_09: It's the fall network.
- 0:26SPEAKER_09: Inside act test, I'd say.
- 0:29SPEAKER_09: From Rocky Top, direct from the coaches.
- 0:34SPEAKER_09: It's time track.
- 0:36SPEAKER_09: Mike Keith starts now.
- 0:40SPEAKER_11: Welcome to the show.
- 0:42SPEAKER_11: It's a huge show.
- 0:44SPEAKER_11: Lady Ball legend Candace Parker was kind enough to give us some time for a huge update from Candace Parker.
- 0:51SPEAKER_11: SEC defensive lineman of the week, Tyree Weathersby tells us the secret of his year four ascent.
- 0:59SPEAKER_11: Inside the orange goes deep with the Metcalf brothers.
- 1:02SPEAKER_11: And Andy Brock hits me with the hard stuff in Andy asks.
- 1:07SPEAKER_11: But first, hoops with Tennessee Basketball Legend, Nashville icon, 1045 The Zone, 3HL host, and ESPN SEC network basketball analyst, Ron Slay.
- 1:22SPEAKER_11: Hello, Ron Slay.
- 1:23SPEAKER_13: Hello, Mike Keith.
- 1:25SPEAKER_11: It is good to see you.
- 1:26SPEAKER_11: Thanks for taking time with us.
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: And even though it's October, we've got to do some hoops.
- 1:32SPEAKER_11: Vols have played two exhibitions.
- 1:34SPEAKER_11: One half against Xavier.
- 1:37SPEAKER_11: Good.
- 1:38SPEAKER_11: The next three halves?
- 1:40SPEAKER_11: Not good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_11: How much stock do we put in what we've seen so far in exhibition play from the volunteers?
- 1:49SPEAKER_13: This is treated as the preseason.
- 1:52SPEAKER_13: So, this is not one of your ordinary teams that you put in, you plug and go.
- 1:59SPEAKER_13: This is not one of those teams.
- 2:00SPEAKER_13: This is actually an entire new team that you're awaiting to jail.
- 2:05SPEAKER_13: So it was a couple of months ago I was asked, what do I expect out of this team?
- 2:10SPEAKER_13: And my exact response was to see this team make a hell of a run in March.
- 2:17SPEAKER_13: Not necessarily win an SEC Championship, an SEC tournament championship, but to make a Final Four.
- 2:25SPEAKER_13: And that still stands today.
- 2:27SPEAKER_13: Because the way it's been put together, it takes a minute for it to jail.
- 2:31SPEAKER_13: Can they score?
- 2:32SPEAKER_13: Absolutely.
- 2:34SPEAKER_13: But the biggest thing that you have to do in all of Coach Mars teams that are really good are teams that have meshed not only off the floor, are they going to games and going out to eat and all of that?
- 2:45SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that's cool.
- 2:46SPEAKER_13: But the communication and everything of knowing instinctively where your guy's going to be on the floor defensively and offensively, it takes time, mate.
- 2:56SPEAKER_13: If it's a scale one to ten, give me give me a give me a six.
- 3:02SPEAKER_13: I'm just fine with that.
- 3:03SPEAKER_13: You know, is it alarming by some of the defensive breakdowns that you see?
- 3:07SPEAKER_13: Yes, but it's also guys that have never played together in a system defensively, regardless of you can guard your man, but can you play in a system defensively where you know where to be at and to help?
- 3:18SPEAKER_13: If the penetration comes, who's recovering, who's helping the other guy?
- 3:22SPEAKER_13: Like it's so much more to it.
- 3:24SPEAKER_13: So I think they're fine where they are.
- 3:26SPEAKER_11: Building this team back after some devastating basketball, especially in Durham, North Carolina, what's the most important thing for this coaching staff to do to build them up as they head toward the opener November 3rd?
- 3:41SPEAKER_13: Me as a player, I would like to hear them.
- 3:43SPEAKER_13: Um, the constructive criticism, I think you've heard it all through the offseason as far as how we got to do it, breaking the take, breaking the guys down and building them back up.
- 3:53SPEAKER_13: But in this instance, after having game tape, you start to question yourself as a player a little bit.
- 4:00SPEAKER_13: Like, man, can we really get this done?
- 4:02SPEAKER_13: So it's gonna have to be something reinforced.
- 4:05SPEAKER_13: It can be small things, a small game to five, like whatever it is, to try to build back up that confidence in one another, not necessarily for each person, individual, but them as a team.
- 4:16SPEAKER_13: Um, and then the other part is man, you gotta just get healthy and we'll be fine.
- 4:20SPEAKER_13: I think that's what you continue preaching.
- 4:22SPEAKER_13: You're gonna get it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_13: You're now starting to get guys in and out of the lineup because of injury, because you're trying to tinker with it.
- 4:29SPEAKER_13: You don't know what the um eligibility thing is gonna be.
- 4:33SPEAKER_13: Long blade be back in time, like so many other things, but you gotta be able to kind of reinforce some constructive criticism with these guys and build and build them back up as a team, though.
- 4:43SPEAKER_11: Ron Dayday Ames is a guy that stepped forward in Durham.
- 4:48SPEAKER_11: When it was all going wrong, he said, Hey, I'm gonna make some things happen.
- 4:51SPEAKER_11: He hit some shots, even at a bad moment like Tuesday night was in Durham, Day Day Ames taking the ball, making things happen, delivering.
- 5:01SPEAKER_11: How important can that be going forward for him to have a leadership role?
- 5:05SPEAKER_13: That's huge.
- 5:06SPEAKER_13: That's huge.
- 5:07SPEAKER_13: Uh, also for everybody to be able to know if you need a bucket, because we heard about it, but it's not we have to call a play for this guy.
- 5:14SPEAKER_13: It's almost create space and let him go operate.
- 5:18SPEAKER_13: So you start to see in closing time when games get tight, if whoever your main scorer doesn't have it going, you can bring him in and he can go get you a bucket.
- 5:29SPEAKER_13: That's needed.
- 5:30SPEAKER_13: I don't think it's anybody in the country that can stay in front of that man one-on-one.
- 5:34SPEAKER_13: Because Duke got some hellacious, tenacious defenders in SAR, even the young fella, Ripping.
- 5:41SPEAKER_13: He's been he was playing great defense.
- 5:43SPEAKER_13: So that was a great test.
- 5:45SPEAKER_13: For those guys to be able to see this guy can go get a bucket, is not just in practice.
- 5:49SPEAKER_13: That's true, true confidence that's being built into not only him, but everybody else watching.
- 5:54SPEAKER_11: What's the next week of practice gonna be like for the Vols?
- 5:57SPEAKER_13: Physicality, that's one.
- 5:59SPEAKER_13: The second one is rewarding guys for being able to keep somebody in front.
- 6:04SPEAKER_13: I think the breakdown, what you saw was so many one-on-one breakdowns, and that's not just in half court, but in transition, the ball being inbounded and a guy just going coast to coast in a sense.
- 6:16SPEAKER_13: That can't happen.
- 6:17SPEAKER_13: That can't happen on any level, that can't happen in fifth grade.
- 6:20SPEAKER_13: So that's one of the things you have to get back to, the foundation.
- 6:23SPEAKER_13: Just the simple things.
- 6:24SPEAKER_13: And I think the biggest thing, Mike, is communication, man.
- 6:27SPEAKER_13: I don't think they know how important that is.
- 6:30SPEAKER_13: Guessing into instinctively knowing where you're supposed to be, they don't know that.
- 6:34SPEAKER_13: They don't have that instinct.
- 6:35SPEAKER_13: So you have to over-communicate.
- 6:37SPEAKER_13: They're doing a great job at dead balls, but while the game's being played, you gotta continue to over-communicate on those out-of-bounds plays.
- 6:48SPEAKER_13: Like those are things that should not happen.
- 6:50SPEAKER_13: Caden Boozer brought the ball down and threw a about an eight-foot pass to Williams for a dunk.
- 6:57SPEAKER_13: That can't happen.
- 6:58SPEAKER_13: Because you already back.
- 7:00SPEAKER_13: It's not like it's not like it was a three-on-two or something.
- 7:02SPEAKER_13: You were already back and they still were able to get a dunk.
- 7:05SPEAKER_13: So the small things communicating, and somebody got to step up.
- 7:08SPEAKER_13: Um, and I'm I'm saying this from watching afar.
- 7:11SPEAKER_13: I'm sure they got voices in their locker room that they listen to, but somebody has to step up and be a leader, one that you can see.
- 7:20SPEAKER_13: Perfect example was Sar for Duke.
- 7:23SPEAKER_13: He was over-communicating to his guys on the bench, guys in the game.
- 7:27SPEAKER_13: Even when they broke the huddle and started live ball playing, you gotta see somebody do that.
- 7:33SPEAKER_13: You can't think somebody knows.
- 7:35SPEAKER_11: Ron Slay, great stuff as usual.
- 7:38SPEAKER_11: Thanks for joining us on the Mike Keith Show.
- 7:40SPEAKER_13: Anytime, Mike, I can't wait for you guys to have me back.
- 7:44SPEAKER_11: We will have you back indeed.

- 8:50SPEAKER_22: Are you game day ready?
- 8:52SPEAKER_22: This has been asked Coach Hyper with me.
- 8:55SPEAKER_22: Coach Hyper.
- 9:00SPEAKER_06: Let's be real for a second.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: Vaping isn't harmless.
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: Most vapes contain nicotine, and nicotine can lead to addiction.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: Especially while your brain is still developing.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: And once you're hooked, it's not easy to just stop whatever.
- 9:14SPEAKER_04: You've got goals.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Sport, school, friends.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: A future you're building rotten out.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: Don't let a trend decide that for you.
- 9:22SPEAKER_04: Protect your potential.
- 9:24SPEAKER_04: B T and strong.
- 9:27SPEAKER_22: In Big Orange Country, we live for big moments, but we know there are surprises along the way.
- 9:33SPEAKER_22: When you need help with auto, some peace of mind for your home.
- 9:41SPEAKER_22: Are you preparing for the next chapter in life?
- 9:44SPEAKER_22: Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee is there for you.

- 9:52SPEAKER_21: Tennessee Insurance for Tennessee life.
- 9:55SPEAKER_11: Not funny, guys.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: My name is Debbie Holloway.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I am a real estate broker here in Knoxville, and we've been in Knoxville now for about 39 years.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: I've been working with StarterPro for several years now.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I can't say enough good things about them.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: I've never worked with a painting contractor that has come in and been so precise.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: I trust Starter Pro painters and would recommend them to anyone who needs a project done at their home.
- 10:33SPEAKER_06: Cleaner technology, greater efficiency, and smarter ways to meet the energy demands of a growing state.
- 10:40SPEAKER_06: That's the power of natural gas, helping deliver reliable, efficient energy across Tennessee every day.
- 10:47SPEAKER_06: Because progress should move communities forward while helping protect the places we call home.
- 10:54SPEAKER_06: Natural gas, fueled for the future.
- 10:57SPEAKER_07: At Rackley Roofing, we are not a one-man team.
- 11:00SPEAKER_07: We're actually not a two-man team.
- 11:02SPEAKER_07: Everyone is a critical part of the journey.
- 11:04SPEAKER_17: Championship teams are not built by one person.
- 11:07SPEAKER_17: Great companies aren't ether.
- 11:09SPEAKER_07: Like the Vols, coaches and players need to learn to handle the pressure, including the pressure of success.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: We invest in the next generation.
- 11:18SPEAKER_13: We invest in our community.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: And most importantly, we invest in our employees.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Want to change the world?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Change it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: One roof at a time.
- 11:29SPEAKER_09: The Vols come off.
- 11:34SPEAKER_11: Bring on the fast involved A2.
- 11:40SPEAKER_11: And let the capability of the Ford F-150 bring the rest.
- 11:52SPEAKER_11: Your local Ford dealer.
- 11:54SPEAKER_11: Sponsor of Tennessee Athletic.
- 12:00SPEAKER_11: I introduced to you the Mike Keith Show audience delivered by Uber Eats, the SEC's defensive lineman of the week.
- 12:08SPEAKER_11: This is number 18, Tyree Weathersby.
- 12:12SPEAKER_11: There he is.
- 12:14SPEAKER_11: Congratulations.
- 12:15SPEAKER_14: No, I appreciate it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_11: Two sacks against Alabama.
- 12:18SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_11: SEC defensive lineman of the week.
- 12:20SPEAKER_11: Do you get like a trophy or a certificate?
- 12:23SPEAKER_14: I honestly don't know.
- 12:25SPEAKER_11: You like it.
- 12:26SPEAKER_11: So Brent Hubbs and I've been friends for years, and he covered your recruitment.
- 12:30SPEAKER_11: And so he told me your story.
- 12:32SPEAKER_11: And I didn't like physically take notes.
- 12:34SPEAKER_11: I should have, but see if I got this right.
- 12:36SPEAKER_11: So you're from Douglasville, Georgia.
- 12:37SPEAKER_11: Desert.
- 12:38SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 12:38SPEAKER_11: So you come to Tennessee in 2023, and it it really looks good for you.
- 12:43SPEAKER_11: Things are really rocking and rolling.
- 12:45SPEAKER_11: And then you heard a hip.
- 12:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 12:47SPEAKER_11: And so then you're out for the 2023 season.
- 12:49SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 12:50SPEAKER_11: So then 2024, you come back and you start to play.
- 12:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, a little bit.
- 12:55SPEAKER_11: A little bit.
- 12:56SPEAKER_11: 2025, you're in the rotation.
- 12:59SPEAKER_11: Had a sack against Oklahoma.
- 13:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_11: Okay, so I got that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_11: And now you've just exploded.
- 13:05SPEAKER_11: You have six and a half sacks.
- 13:07SPEAKER_11: So from the time of the hip injury, what what has been the evolution of Tyree Weathersby's game?
- 13:16SPEAKER_14: Honestly, this well, I think the most important part in that is just keeping like a level mind.
- 13:22SPEAKER_14: Like you gotta surround yourself around the right people, have a good support staff.
- 13:25SPEAKER_14: And of course, obviously, like my friends and the trainers helped.
- 13:30SPEAKER_14: And I think the most the hardest part was really the mental part.
- 13:34SPEAKER_14: And you know, then obviously you gotta come coming back from a tough injury like that, you gotta put in work in a weight room, and you just gotta do extra and be willing to do more, like even now, more treatment and yeah, just stand on top of everything, honestly.
- 13:49SPEAKER_14: So yeah, I'd say that was the most hardest part about it.
- 13:52SPEAKER_11: So you had to learn all of the details of what it takes off the field to be a successful football player while sort of regaining your confidence in the hip.
- 14:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_11: Was that hard?
- 14:05SPEAKER_14: Yeah, because I of course it was times like whether I was scared to make this step or anything like that, because the specific play I got hurt on, I was just running a simple uh stunt in the inside gap, and my feet just got caught up wrong, and I yeah, basically just took the wrong step.
- 14:21SPEAKER_14: So yeah, that's why I said just the mental part and being able to trust it, like even in the weight room, like j just simple stuff like jumping or squats, and you know, just being worried about that uh messing up again, or yeah.
- 14:36SPEAKER_11: How much was Derek Owings and the entire strength and conditioning staff a huge factor in getting 2026 Tyree Weathersby to where he is right now?
- 14:47SPEAKER_14: Man, like if you go back and look at my before and after pictures, like my transformation was crazy.
- 14:53SPEAKER_14: So I always speak highly a Dio and the staff, and yeah, that was a very vital, a crucial part in that.
- 15:00SPEAKER_14: And yeah, I'm I'm just so glad we got him.
- 15:03SPEAKER_11: And the but the mental part of getting you to be like, hey, you just gotta cut loose.
- 15:08SPEAKER_11: You've got crazy explosiveness.
- 15:10SPEAKER_11: We see your quickness and speed.
- 15:11SPEAKER_11: I mean, you're 270 pounds.
- 15:14SPEAKER_11: And so the I mean the gifts are there, but just releasing the gifts, that's kind of what Derek Owings is really good at doing, and Rodney Garner is too.
- 15:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that's why I was just about to mention Coach G as well.
- 15:26SPEAKER_14: You know, I he's like one of the reasons I even came here in the first place and trusted the process.
- 15:32SPEAKER_14: So, yeah, uh Coach G and Coach Derek Owens, they I don't know.
- 15:39SPEAKER_14: I can't thank them enough.
- 15:41SPEAKER_11: So what does this year feel like in terms of year four, all that you've been through, to be having the success that you're having?
- 15:51SPEAKER_11: Is it a little bit like a dream?
- 15:53SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it's like a long time coming.
- 15:56SPEAKER_14: Like everybody, I w, like you said, when I first got here, it was looking real good for me.
- 16:02SPEAKER_14: So you'll just feel like a long time coming and everything finally coming true.
- 16:06SPEAKER_11: Coach Hypel said at his press conference on Monday that it's a very unselfish group in the defensive line.
- 16:14SPEAKER_11: And I asked him to describe that because if you haven't played in the defensive line, you may not know what he's talking about.
- 16:20SPEAKER_11: I know how he described unselfish.
- 16:22SPEAKER_11: How does Tyree Weathers be describe unselfish in the defensive line?
- 16:26SPEAKER_14: Man, I look at uh playing unselfish as just doing your job and the play is gonna come to you.
- 16:33SPEAKER_14: Like just being happy for your brother when he makes a play, whether it's on a D-line, linebackers, DBs, everybody just happy and ecstatic when somebody makes a play.
- 16:42SPEAKER_14: You know, we all when turnovers happen, everybody comes celebrate and just yeah, everybody just happy for each other.
- 16:48SPEAKER_14: So I I think that's the most selfless thing.
- 16:51SPEAKER_11: All right, you're going to South Carolina this weekend.
- 16:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_11: What's the challenge of going against a quarterback like Norris, who certainly can make a lot of things happen with his legs and can stand in the pocket and throw the football?
- 17:05SPEAKER_14: The biggest challenge is just keeping him contained in the pocket.
- 17:08SPEAKER_14: We can't let him scramble all over the place.
- 17:11SPEAKER_14: So all the lemon hats for the ball, and yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_14: That's the biggest.
- 17:15SPEAKER_11: What do you say to people who say, oh, don't have a letdown?
- 17:18SPEAKER_11: Don't have you just beat Alabama, you got to go play South Carolina.
- 17:22SPEAKER_11: You Tennessee's due for a letdown.
- 17:24SPEAKER_11: How do you what what do you tell them about how you're gonna keep that from happening?
- 17:28SPEAKER_14: I mean, honestly, I really don't even worry about outside noise.
- 17:31SPEAKER_14: Like our motto in the building is you're only as good as the next one.
- 17:35SPEAKER_14: So we just gotta worry about we week by week.
- 17:38SPEAKER_14: We got South Carolina this week, so we just gotta worry about this week.
- 17:42SPEAKER_11: Tyree Weathersby, the other number eight team who's doing great this year, Tennessee defensive lineman.
- 17:48SPEAKER_11: We've got more of the Mike Keith show coming up right after this.
- 17:53SPEAKER_09: This is your home for coaches and players.
- 17:56SPEAKER_09: One-on-one from Rocky Top.
- 17:58SPEAKER_09: This is your ball network.
- 18:05SPEAKER_11: Tennessee starts Terrence Metcalf at safety.
- 18:09SPEAKER_11: Tevis Metcalf is the top backup at safety and nickelback.
- 18:14SPEAKER_11: The Birmingham brothers are giving the balls excellent play in the secondary and having a great time in the process.
- 18:21SPEAKER_11: As Sarah Detweiler shares in this edition of Inside the Orange, presented by Google Gemini, official Gen AI partner of Tennessee Athletics.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: You guys start together at Arkansas, then go to Michigan, and then come to Tennessee.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: But through it all, you guys were with each other every single step of the way.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: Was that always the plan to play together in college?
- 18:45SPEAKER_16: I mean, initially, I don't really I don't really know for real, but it just kind of happened.
- 18:50SPEAKER_16: Like when I went to Arkansas and he stayed back home, Arkansas recruited him, like me and him just as much the same.
- 18:58SPEAKER_16: So once I got to college, it was kind of already overstood, like, all right, we're gonna be little next.
- 19:04SPEAKER_16: So we just it just stuck, you know, it it made its own course, and I feel like uh, I know I won't have it any other way, to be honest.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: So then came time to make the next decision, which was Tennessee ultimately.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: What was it that you guys both saw in the school that you knew you wanted it to become your new home?
- 19:23SPEAKER_16: Uh really just the culture and the program here, um, you know, kind of went into it like not knowing, you know, what to expect, really.
- 19:32SPEAKER_16: Um, you know, it's kind of a new age or the portal and things like that.
- 19:36SPEAKER_16: But uh if you just look at Tennessee holistically, like, you know, it's a great program, it's a g it's a great school to be at.
- 19:42SPEAKER_16: And I feel like uh since we've been here, it's been exactly that.
- 19:46SPEAKER_16: So it's been everything, you know, we hope for.
- 19:49SPEAKER_16: Um, you know, we see growth of improvement each and every day.
- 19:54SPEAKER_16: And uh the people here are great as well, so that's what makes it uh feel more like a home environment.
- 19:58SPEAKER_16: Got that southern hospitality and stuff.
- 20:01SPEAKER_15: So and for me it was like like kind of the same as I was saying, like who who really wanted like showed the most love to me in the process, and they did that.
- 20:09SPEAKER_15: And then also like was just who was gonna keep it real and just like give me a chance to really show what I can do, and they've they've held up to that.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: So So then a couple games into the season, you guys both find out that you'll both be starting for the first time in your collegiate careers together.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: What do you remember about thinking and feeling what was all the emotions going into the game?
- 20:31SPEAKER_15: I probably say like for that whole week, like I didn't know if I was gonna start anything.
- 20:36SPEAKER_15: I just every week I just go through the process like I'm gonna be the one starting every week.
- 20:40SPEAKER_15: So when they had told me, like right before the game almost, it was just it wasn't no, it wasn't no like shock.
- 20:45SPEAKER_15: I went nervous, it was just like, all right, it's that time for me to show it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_15: And then uh when he found out he came up, we were showing love.
- 20:51SPEAKER_15: So I mean, we get on the field, I mean, it just felt natural because we didn't have reps together in practice, and it's like it it wasn't no drop-off, so yeah, I feel the same.
- 21:00SPEAKER_16: Um just proud of the moment um itself.
- 21:03SPEAKER_16: Uh once I found out, uh coach gave me a little smirk and I kind of put two and two together.
- 21:09SPEAKER_16: And I was like, okay then, well, once I found out, show love and you know, the rest issues.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: Did your parents say anything when you told them the news?
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Were they extra excited to see you both in Neeland playing together?
- 21:20SPEAKER_15: Uh so m my mom actually, this this is the first week, like she couldn't come to a game, so like she had to go to a wedding.
- 21:28SPEAKER_15: So it was just like my older brother had came to a game finally, so it it was big for me to be able to uh like get the play in front of him.
- 21:35SPEAKER_15: And then like my mom, she was kind of like getting hype texting me and all that, so I had to put on the show for her.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I'm sure she took a lot of pictures from her TV screen whenever she was watching.
- 21:45SPEAKER_16: On the fall, watching it during the wedding, so it was crazy.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Yes, of course.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: Well, in that game, you guys both had a great outing, a total of 11 Metcalf Brother tackles.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: But Tevis, that game was your first career interception.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: How special! What was that moment for you guys?
- 22:01SPEAKER_15: Like going through the play, like the way it was designed, it was just like, okay, I I knew I got this in practice before, and then it and then when it happened, and I caught the ball, it was just like, it kind of, I stood up for a second, and then I just started going crazy because it hit me like, dang, I really just caught a pick.
- 22:17SPEAKER_15: It's the end of the game.
- 22:18SPEAKER_15: So it was big, like getting to see the fans come up.
- 22:22SPEAKER_15: And then even in the pictures, like he was the first one to react.
- 22:25SPEAKER_15: When I caught the ball in the in the uh picture, he in the back put his hand on.
- 22:28SPEAKER_15: So it's pretty cool.
- 22:30SPEAKER_16: I seen the whole thing happen.
- 22:31SPEAKER_16: I I had no work backside, so he threw the ball up, he caught it.
- 22:36SPEAKER_16: I already knew it, like game over, he caught him.
- 22:39SPEAKER_16: So it was a pretty cool moment.
- 22:41SPEAKER_16: But all the time, I just, you know, thank God for like giving us the, you know, the chance to really do it together.
- 22:48SPEAKER_16: And that's just what I look back on.
- 22:50SPEAKER_16: Um, each and every day we get another opportunity to, you know, go and, you know, better ourselves and do something, you know, to help our family as well.
- 22:59SPEAKER_16: Because that's all it's been about on the whole family.
- 23:02SPEAKER_16: And, you know, he just blessed us to be able to, you know, come here and, you know, do it.
- 23:07SPEAKER_15: So Yeah, I feel like it's very special to me, like, like going through these grueling workouts, like year after year, like but knowing that you got your brothers in there doing the same thing, y'all both at the end of the day get to go home, talk about it, get to chill together.
- 23:19SPEAKER_15: So like, I feel like that's big.
- 23:21SPEAKER_15: And then like years go by, hopefully we in the league on the same team, or get to play each other, at least something like that, jersey swap.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: So I feel like that's just the main goal with Well, speaking of the jerseys, your dad's got a pretty cool one too.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: He's got one number on the front and one number on the back.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: How did that come to be?
- 23:40SPEAKER_16: I don't know, did did they start?
- 23:42SPEAKER_16: I think they started doing it my his freshman year, my sophomore year.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 23:47SPEAKER_16: Or in Michigan, one of them, and then when we got here, you got the 20 on the front, one on the back.
- 23:51SPEAKER_16: So it's pretty cool how you do it.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, how special is it to have your parents and your family support throughout your entire journey together?
- 24:00SPEAKER_16: Uh, really, it helps.
- 24:01SPEAKER_16: Um, because you know you gotta support a background, you gotta support a family that's gonna, you know, lean on your best interests.
- 24:08SPEAKER_16: Um, they're not gonna sugarcoat anything.
- 24:10SPEAKER_16: Um, our dad is our biggest coach when it comes to the like after the games and stuff like that.
- 24:15SPEAKER_16: You know, he's always gonna keep it real.
- 24:17SPEAKER_16: Um my mom, she's always gonna be supportive.
- 24:20SPEAKER_16: Asking, are we okay, how our body body's feeling, things like that.
- 24:24SPEAKER_16: Um, and you know, they always just show support.
- 24:27SPEAKER_16: Um, I love them for it.
- 24:28SPEAKER_16: Um, I, you know, thank them, you know, any chance that I get to, because I don't know, without them we wouldn't be here, honestly.
- 24:37SPEAKER_16: So it's been real good just having them being able to pour into us.
- 24:41SPEAKER_15: I I feel like it is pretty big because like my dad through the week, he'll be like texting calls and he'll send like a like a like tendencies that the offense got.
- 24:49SPEAKER_15: Like he like he actually coaching us for the week.
- 24:52SPEAKER_15: And then my mom, like she kind of be trying to like, she be like commenting a little bit on different plays and stuff.
- 24:59SPEAKER_15: Even though she never played, like she just be trying to learn every week, so it's pretty fun.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: What's the benefit of having a brother in the system, a blood brother in the system who knows you better than you might even know yourself sometimes too?
- 25:13SPEAKER_16: Uh to him, uh I feel like he knows me best and you know, anybody that I know, anybody that knows me, I feel like he uh picks up on, you know, the things that I do.
- 25:24SPEAKER_16: And you know, he either critiques me for it or congratulate me for it.
- 25:28SPEAKER_16: But at the end of the day, we both know like each other's best skill set and you know, shooting for you, each other's best interests.
- 25:36SPEAKER_15: So Yeah, just piggyback on that.
- 25:38SPEAKER_15: Like sometimes, you know, like you get to doing things that you're not used that you're not that's not you, like that's what you wouldn't do usually, and like it's good having that person that knows you and knows what you used to do years ago or or now that you were good at, and it like kinda tell you, all right, you need to that's not you, this is what you need to be doing.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: That's your that's what you're good at, so what are you most proud of each other for?
- 26:03SPEAKER_16: I would say uh just like he never gave up.
- 26:08SPEAKER_16: He's never gonna give up.
- 26:10SPEAKER_16: He's always gonna, you know, keep pushing.
- 26:12SPEAKER_16: It doesn't matter what circumstance he's in, what situation he's in, he's always gonna, you know, look past it and still move forward.
- 26:20SPEAKER_16: And I feel like, you know, him having that mindset, him having, you know, being able to do what he does, it it pushes him to, you know, success.
- 26:29SPEAKER_16: And I feel like that's the main goal.
- 26:30SPEAKER_16: It's being successful.
- 26:32SPEAKER_16: Uh the way that he, you know, proves himself each and every day, he's gonna be that way.
- 26:36SPEAKER_15: For him, I'd probably say just being the same person regardless of like like changing in like let's say like years before like freshman year, he didn't get as much playing time to, okay, now you're starting every game sophomore year, but you're still having the same mindset.
- 26:50SPEAKER_15: Being a star guy the next year.
- 26:52SPEAKER_15: So like I really admire people that when they get a higher role, they still be the same person and do the same things off the field.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Now we're about halfway through the season at this point.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: So the countdown is on as to how many games you guys really have left together in college.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: How do you want to make the most of these opportunities before it comes time?
- 27:11SPEAKER_16: Uh sure.
- 27:12SPEAKER_16: Uh I know we want to win every game.
- 27:15SPEAKER_16: Uh uh, I feel like we've, you know, had so much, you know, time and burn on the field together.
- 27:22SPEAKER_16: Um it's just time to, you know, continue to um just, you know, look past all the distract distractions and things like that and you know, just keep working.
- 27:31SPEAKER_16: Uh we know we got all of our brothers on the team and we know we got the love from them as well, and we pour into them just as much as they're pouring to us.
- 27:40SPEAKER_16: I feel like that's what's gonna, you know, keep us having the winning edge um for the season.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: What are you both going to remember the most about the time spent together on the football field?
- 27:50SPEAKER_15: Not even really the game, I would say more so like the process and like really before we even got to college, like what we had to do to get there and get here, like, like wake we up at five in the morning playing the game, getting in trouble, and then like having to work out as punishment, like we worked out as a punishment.
- 28:07SPEAKER_15: So it was like I feel like that that right there just it just keeps us as a reminder.
- 28:13SPEAKER_15: Like keep going.
- 28:15SPEAKER_16: Yeah, I would say um, like just us growing up, every house that we've lived in, uh, my dad always made like some type of environment for us to push ourselves and have us in the basement, have us in the driveway, have us in the backyard, inside the house, lifting ways, running, running the hills, doing all that stuff.
- 28:37SPEAKER_16: I feel like that just uh like helped us build who we are today.
- 28:42SPEAKER_16: And that's you know something I'm so thankful for.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Is there one memory that stands out the most among all of them throughout the journey?
- 28:52SPEAKER_16: I would say the time we lived uh like in Alabama at uh, I think the house was on Tyler Road or something like that.
- 29:01SPEAKER_16: And we had a basement and it was this pole, and we was training for basketball, football.
- 29:07SPEAKER_16: We had the treadmill set up, we had all the weights and things like that.
- 29:12SPEAKER_16: My dad wanted to make a little man cave and all that type of stuff.
- 29:16SPEAKER_16: So just every day going down there, grinding, those are my favorite memories.
- 29:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I'd probably say the saying to be honest.
- 29:24SPEAKER_15: Like, we down on our uh knees on the concrete floor, throwing a baseball at the wall, catching it.
- 29:29SPEAKER_15: I feel like just them times right there.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: You both grew up in the South, in Mississippi and Alabama, and you're playing in the SEC for the University of Tennessee.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: What does that mean to be able to represent the state in that way?
- 29:42SPEAKER_16: Uh it means a lot.
- 29:44SPEAKER_16: Our teammates, um, they pour into Tennessee as just as much as we do, and they got a lot of blessed volunteers here, and we just, you know, here to you know make the fans proud, make our teammates proud, make the coaches proud, and you know, just come out here and give it all we got.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: We look forward to all the rest that you guys accomplished before the year's up.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: So thanks so much for the time.
- 30:05SPEAKER_09: Thank you for having us.
- 30:06SPEAKER_17: You're one-on-one with Mike Key, sponsored by Food City, the official supermarket of the Tennessee Volunteers.

- 30:29SPEAKER_17: By Rackley Roofing, let us fix your lead, the proud official roofer of the big horn.
- 30:35SPEAKER_17: And by UT Medical, the official health care provider of the vault.
- 30:40SPEAKER_12: Being at the vault game saved my life.
- 30:43SPEAKER_12: It was a normal day going to the game with my son, but this time it felt like a sledgehammer hit my chest.
- 30:50SPEAKER_12: The UT Medical team knew exactly what they needed to do and just kept me calm throughout the process.
- 30:56SPEAKER_12: It was probably the most serious heart attack that you could have.
- 31:00SPEAKER_12: The team took care of me, worked quickly, efficiently, and I did catch the end of the game.
- 31:07SPEAKER_20: These are the stories of the region's academic health system.
- 31:35SPEAKER_22: Just like you see First Horizon.

- 31:44SPEAKER_17: Big bank muscle.
- 31:45SPEAKER_17: Small bank hustle.
- 31:47SPEAKER_22: That's First Horizon, the official bank of the Volks, probably serving Tennesseeans for over 160 years.
- 31:55SPEAKER_11: Statter A's are all about the big art.
- 31:58SPEAKER_11: From the roar of Neeland Stadium to the energy of the tailgate, one thing belongs on every game day menu.
- 32:05SPEAKER_11: Calhoun.
- 32:06SPEAKER_11: Whether you're dining in one of Calhoun's nine-area restaurant locations, taking the feast of your tailgate, or grabbing a bike from one of Calhoun's locations inside Neyland Stadium, Calhoun's face 15 seat, so you can focus on curing the balls to victory.

- 33:08SPEAKER_18: Plan on us.
- 33:13SPEAKER_23: Out of here.
- 33:21SPEAKER_23: Out of here.
- 33:28SPEAKER_23: Out of here.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: As number one, I love winning.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Can't help it.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:46SPEAKER_06: Consider I've given the world a take five.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Luck is in my blood.
- 33:52SPEAKER_17: Genetic.
- 33:54SPEAKER_06: See a zero.
- 33:55SPEAKER_06: I see a winner's circle.
- 34:03SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm gonna need a take five minutes.
- 34:06SPEAKER_09: Choose your numbers, or we'll choose them for you.
- 34:08SPEAKER_09: Either way, it's game-changing fun.
- 34:13SPEAKER_11: Mikey's joke continues, delivered by Uber Eats.
- 34:17SPEAKER_11: We are now in the Ray Mears room at the Harper Courtside Club inside Pooch City Center to talk with one of the greatest lady vols ever.
- 34:27SPEAKER_11: One of the greatest women's basketball players in the history of the game.
- 34:32SPEAKER_11: The incomparable, the unforgettable Candace Parker.
- 34:36SPEAKER_11: I so appreciate you taking the time.
- 34:38SPEAKER_20: Yeah, I'm excited to be back home.
- 34:39SPEAKER_11: Okay, so there's so many uh titles we could use for you.
- 34:43SPEAKER_11: But the first one I want to start with, the president of Adidas Women's Basketball.
- 34:48SPEAKER_11: What is that job like?
- 34:49SPEAKER_11: What all do you do for Adidas in that role?
- 34:52SPEAKER_20: You know, it's really exciting to continue to grow the game now like outside of the lines of basketball.
- 34:58SPEAKER_20: Um you know, I was a part of Tennessee when we were Adidas, and that's part of the reason why I'm still with Adidas to to this day is it just seemed right when I left college to then be a professional in Adidas.
- 35:12SPEAKER_20: And I think now in that role it's finding the future of what this game wants us to represent them.
- 35:18SPEAKER_20: Um and to be there to continue to grow that vantage point from where I'm at.
- 35:23SPEAKER_20: And so I really just am just trying to find future talent, trying to continue to put people in sh three stripes and and represent the brand well.
- 35:32SPEAKER_11: And I guess you were pretty happy when Kennedy made the loot.
- 35:35SPEAKER_20: It was it was um super special for me.
- 35:37SPEAKER_20: It was really hard all those years to hide the hide the other logo whenever I would represent the orange.
- 35:44SPEAKER_20: It's a lot easier now.
- 35:45SPEAKER_11: It's a lot easier.
- 35:46SPEAKER_11: Love you on TNT.
- 35:47SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 35:48SPEAKER_11: You do a great job.
- 35:49SPEAKER_11: I have to know who's tougher to work with, Charles Barkley or Shaquille O'Neal?
- 35:54SPEAKER_20: I would say equally tough in different ways.
- 35:59SPEAKER_20: But no, they're um they're amazing.
- 36:02SPEAKER_20: Big bros.
- 36:03SPEAKER_20: Obviously, grew up watching them as a fan.
- 36:06SPEAKER_20: And so now to be, you know, sitting at a desk and to see, you know, how they see the game, um, I have a tremendous amount of respect for them.
- 36:15SPEAKER_11: It's interesting.
- 36:16SPEAKER_11: Lots of jokes.
- 36:17SPEAKER_11: Lots of jokes.
- 36:17SPEAKER_11: Lots of jokes.
- 36:18SPEAKER_11: I I mean they made me love the NBA again.
- 36:21SPEAKER_11: Watching that show made me love the NBA because I would watch that and then I got interested in what they were talking about.
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_11: Because they're so entertaining and they're so funny together.
- 36:32SPEAKER_11: But for you to be where you are at the age you're you are now, you're much younger than they are.
- 36:38SPEAKER_11: Have they been able to really get across to you what the evolution can be of your overall brand as far as basketball ambassador, announcer, and then kind of person in the mainstream, like they very much are?
- 36:50SPEAKER_20: To be honest with you, I think it their show really showed that basketball is entertainment and people want to be entertained.
- 36:57SPEAKER_20: And media plays a huge role in the entertainment of fans.
- 37:01SPEAKER_20: And what I've taken from them is as a player, there are others that really can't see the game the way that you see it.
- 37:09SPEAKER_20: And you see it in a different vantage point, right?
- 37:10SPEAKER_20: Like I see the game different than Shaq, I see the game different than Charles.
- 37:14SPEAKER_20: Um, but it's important to be true to that, right?
- 37:16SPEAKER_20: And like bring the viewers into what it really takes to be an athlete.
- 37:21SPEAKER_20: And um I think the fans appreciate them because they don't lie to them.
- 37:25SPEAKER_20: So if something is bad, they're gonna say it's bad.
- 37:28SPEAKER_20: And so that's kind of where I've learned from is that you know, as an athlete, we've all been hard on ourselves.
- 37:33SPEAKER_20: That's what's gotten us to that point.
- 37:35SPEAKER_20: And in media, you know, that's the same expectation.
- 37:38SPEAKER_20: And they do it with a lot of jokes and we have a lot of fun, but really, like, if you sit down and listen, there's nobody that watches basketball more than Charles.
- 37:46SPEAKER_20: Charles watches basketball more than probably anybody, all sports.
- 37:49SPEAKER_20: And so to be knowledgeable in that field and to really watch it, um, you know, it comes across on television.
- 37:55SPEAKER_11: Well, it's funny because I was just watching Paul McCartney give an interview, and I thought about Charles because Paul McCartney is not afraid to give young performers and songwriters credit.
- 38:05SPEAKER_11: Charles is quick to give young players, coaches, whatever, a lot of credit, and that has to be uh really big for them in terms of their progress and their confidence.
- 38:16SPEAKER_20: Progress, confidence, but also being able to, you know, see things that maybe others don't see in their greatness, which is what I think is super important in breaking down any type of sports.
- 38:28SPEAKER_20: I'm a huge football fan.
- 38:29SPEAKER_20: I don't pretend to know everything about football, but listen, I learn a lot when I listen to Tom Brady just in the booth.
- 38:36SPEAKER_20: Um, I learn a lot when I'm watching, you know, the NFL show.
- 38:39SPEAKER_20: So I think in seeing basketball, you see Chuck break that down for fans that may not have that you know type of understanding of what it takes to be great at that level or why that play was great.
- 38:51SPEAKER_11: Bring us up to speed.
- 38:52SPEAKER_11: What all does TNT sports have you doing now?
- 38:55SPEAKER_20: So right now I'm doing college men's basketball, college women's basketball, as well as unrivaled women's professional basketball.
- 39:02SPEAKER_20: So I'm excited to broadcast with them.
- 39:05SPEAKER_20: And then I'm also with Amazon, um, Amazon Prime right now with WNBA as well as NBA coverage.
- 39:12SPEAKER_20: Golly.
- 39:12SPEAKER_20: Yeah, got a lot of jobs.
- 39:13SPEAKER_11: I was gonna say, uh, Unrivaled, really fascinating.
- 39:16SPEAKER_11: Starts back in January for year three.
- 39:19SPEAKER_11: The progression of that, eight teams in the eight cities, how do you feel like it's gone and and how do you feel like it's expanding the game?
- 39:27SPEAKER_20: Well, I think first and foremost, it's um important for the brands of these women because they don't have to go overseas now.
- 39:35SPEAKER_20: They stay in the public eyes.
- 39:36SPEAKER_20: And a lot of times with endorsements and you know, with coverage, you don't want your players to go out of the public's mind, you know?
- 39:46SPEAKER_20: And so I think the NBA has done an amazing job of that with making their season as long as it is, but then also, you know, being able to have summer league and being able to have the draft, and so you're always constantly thinking about the NBA.
- 39:57SPEAKER_20: That's what Unrivaled has done.
- 39:59SPEAKER_20: The women aren't going abroad, um, and now they're able to be here, they're playing a style game that has, you know, brought attention, but also um honing in on like matchups.
- 40:11SPEAKER_20: People want to see competition, they want to see matchups, they want to see one-on-one.
- 40:15SPEAKER_20: Like to me, that was the biggest thing, too, is getting the players to commit to playing one-on-one and you know, playing one-on-one to see who's the best in the world, which is huge.
- 40:26SPEAKER_20: And so I think they've made a lot of steps in bringing viewers to it.
- 40:30SPEAKER_11: The WNBA's growth is uh inarguable.
- 40:33SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's tremendous.
- 40:35SPEAKER_11: You have said that you believe social media is a huge catalyst for what's happened with the WNBA.
- 40:42SPEAKER_11: Why?
- 40:43SPEAKER_20: Well, for so long, I think there were places like the University of Tennessee, there were places like Yukon, and nobody thought that that could translate to the found, you know, to the WNBA and that platform.
- 40:57SPEAKER_20: Well, it turns out it wasn't the athlete, it was the actual platform.
- 41:00SPEAKER_20: Like it had to be ready for that.
- 41:02SPEAKER_20: And so I think social media it allowed women to kind of take hold of their own brands and to show um through numbers, through all of that, through NIL, that people will pay attention and they do want to watch women play basketball.
- 41:18SPEAKER_20: And um, you know, I know that Iowa gets a num a lot of credit, which it should.
- 41:24SPEAKER_20: And I also think it was that the world was ready for that.
- 41:27SPEAKER_20: Social media was able to capture the lines that wrapped around the buildings.
- 41:31SPEAKER_20: Social media was able to capture the sellouts and capture the young girls in the t-shirts, and a lot of times media wasn't showing that because they weren't there to capture this.
- 41:41SPEAKER_20: And so, you know, I think in women's basketball, we hold true that there were places like the University of Tennessee where that happened.
- 41:48SPEAKER_20: There was just no social media, there was no NIL, there was none of that.
- 41:52SPEAKER_20: And so to be proud now to see that the world is ready for it, and I think that WNBA as well was ready to take hold and and be ready to provide that platform.
- 42:05SPEAKER_20: And they even have controversies, which Oh, they're not short of that.
- 42:08SPEAKER_11: Well, but that's not bad for business, it's not bad for business.
- 42:13SPEAKER_20: I think the only hesitation that I will say was when is when controversy supersedes the sport.
- 42:18SPEAKER_20: And I think for so long that within women's sports coverage, it was only controversy.
- 42:24SPEAKER_20: And so now we're seeing that the level of play, the star power, we've gotten all of that, and now it just seems like sometimes controversy is used as fuel and and kind of like put into the flame a little bit, where I want to see it about basketball more so.
- 42:42SPEAKER_20: I want to see it about this person against this person and not anything else.
- 42:48SPEAKER_20: I think that's the biggest thing within women's basketball.
- 42:50SPEAKER_11: What would Pad Summit like about women's basketball right now?
- 42:53SPEAKER_11: The competition, 100%.
- 42:56SPEAKER_20: I think that there are a lot of women that are putting in the work, and you can tell by the way that they're playing on the court, they're putting the hours in the gym, which is what Coach Summit always preached.
- 43:07SPEAKER_20: Um, to be able to perform in front of, you know, 25,000 people and be able to hit the winning shot, you know how many hours that had to take in a gym by yourself.
- 43:16SPEAKER_20: So I think she would be just proud of the level of play and the details and the skill set that the women have today.
- 43:24SPEAKER_11: What would Pat Summit not like about the game still right now?
- 43:28SPEAKER_11: What would bother her?
- 43:29SPEAKER_20: I think the TikToks, um maybe more so like uh other stuff, the fits, the you know, pregame fits.
- 43:38SPEAKER_20: I don't know if she would have been cool with uh the pregame fits, like the fit walks and all that stuff.
- 43:43SPEAKER_20: She'd be worried more about if you know the scouting report and not if you know what you're gonna wear to the game.
- 43:48SPEAKER_20: Don't you think she would adapt?
- 43:50SPEAKER_20: I mean, she was Coach Summit was fly.
- 43:53SPEAKER_20: If you look back at all her suits, yeah, Coach Summit was one of the most flying.
- 43:56SPEAKER_20: She showed up to work like that.
- 44:00SPEAKER_20: That it wasn't about that, if that makes sense.
- 44:03SPEAKER_20: Like that was sprinkles on the cake and not the icing or the cake batter itself.
- 44:10SPEAKER_11: There are names that go with Lady Vol's.
- 44:12SPEAKER_11: Obviously, Pets will always be the biggest, but yours is one of this is the 50th anniversary of the Lady Volks.
- 44:18SPEAKER_20: That's crazy.
- 44:19SPEAKER_20: I did not know that.
- 44:20SPEAKER_11: So as we kind of just wrap up, just tell me from your experience and with other female athletes in whatever sport and what you've experienced and what they're continuing experiencing today, what's most special about being a Lady Vall?
- 44:36SPEAKER_20: When you put Lady Vol on your chest, you understand like you're representing, and I think there's cliche words that you can say like more than just yourself, but it really is like representing more than just yourself.
- 44:47SPEAKER_20: Like there's the power tee, and then there's the Lady Vall T.
- 44:50SPEAKER_20: And everybody understands like what went into that.
- 44:53SPEAKER_20: Whether it's um the pioneers like Joan Cronin and Pat Summit that were actually behind Title IX and were there before, whether it's Coach Summit driving the bus, washing the clothes, you know, going from Stokely playing in front of 75 people to then having sellouts for UConn at 25,000 people.
- 45:13SPEAKER_20: I think it's the growth of women, it's the leadership by women.
- 45:17SPEAKER_20: Um we were one of two, I think, universities in the country that had a separate women's athletic department to make sure that things were fair.
- 45:26SPEAKER_20: And so to me, I think a Lady Vol, it was it's built for women by women.
- 45:31SPEAKER_20: That to me is what's so important.
- 45:33SPEAKER_20: Um and I just think that every time I put it across my chest, I understand like what went into it.
- 45:39SPEAKER_20: I think the people before us, but also just you know, the power that you have when you, you know, that you when you put it on.
- 45:46SPEAKER_11: That would not be where it is without what the lady balls contributed to it.
- 45:51SPEAKER_20: 100%.
- 45:51SPEAKER_20: I think Tennessee was before its time.
- 45:54SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 45:55SPEAKER_20: And I mean that from top to bottom.
- 45:57SPEAKER_20: I mean that in community, I mean that in athletic department, I mean that in coaching, I mean that in vision, um, and I mean that in fans.
- 46:06SPEAKER_20: You know, I I remember on a random Sunday against Vanderbilt, 25,000 people in TBA.
- 46:13SPEAKER_20: Um, I remember selling out on the road and leading the nation in attendance.
- 46:18SPEAKER_20: And so I think what we have here is special, and I think it holds a place in women's sports.
- 46:24SPEAKER_20: That's why the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame is here.
- 46:27SPEAKER_09: Getting you ready for the game, the Mike Keith Show delivered by great in your ball network.
- 46:39SPEAKER_11: What a big Mike Keith Show it's been.
- 46:41SPEAKER_11: We've had Ron Slate, Candace Parker, Tyree Weathersby, inside the orange, and now Andy Brock with Andy Ask.
- 46:51SPEAKER_11: Presented by First Horizon Bank official Bank of the Balls.
- 46:54SPEAKER_08: You are you're the top you're the show's No, that is so tough to follow.
- 46:58SPEAKER_08: You are the guest doesn't feel right at the end.
- 47:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and it doesn't feel right at all.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: Back on back in the day, though, the that guest on like the tonight show with Johnny Carson and David Letterman stuff, that guest would get bumped a lot.
- 47:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 47:11SPEAKER_11: I'm surprised I'm still here.
- 47:13SPEAKER_11: I'm surprised there's still they'd be like, we don't have time to visit with Andy Brock tonight, but we wish him well and we'll have him on another time.
- 47:20SPEAKER_11: But that's not the way the Mike Keats show works because you have a contract.
- 47:23SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 47:24SPEAKER_11: So Andy asks questions at 865-657-1278.
- 47:31SPEAKER_11: Let it rip, my friend.
- 47:32SPEAKER_08: Okay, let's start.
- 47:33SPEAKER_08: Obviously, a lot happened this past weekend.
- 47:35SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 47:35SPEAKER_08: So a lot of people want to know from your experience about the game.
- 47:38SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 47:39SPEAKER_08: We got one from JC in Memphis.
- 47:41SPEAKER_08: JC wanted to start out off with how about them balls?
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: How about them balls?
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: How about it?
- 47:45SPEAKER_08: And then he asked, How much does this just change the season?
- 47:48SPEAKER_08: How much does a win like that do for a team?
- 47:50SPEAKER_11: You're guaranteed nothing, but you've put yourself in the race with five games to go.
- 47:55SPEAKER_11: Will you be able to say that with four games to go?
- 47:59SPEAKER_11: Will you be able to say that with three games to go?
- 48:01SPEAKER_11: You know, that's the test now.
- 48:03SPEAKER_11: I I laid out a scenario for some friends after the Texas loss.
- 48:08SPEAKER_11: And I said, you know, if you can go get Auburn and Arkansas, and then beat Alabama, and then you can somehow get through South Carolina, you're seven and one at the end of the month, and you're right in the middle of everything.
- 48:23SPEAKER_11: And that's where you want to be, especially with a team that's improving.
- 48:26SPEAKER_11: But but now it's in your hands.
- 48:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 48:29SPEAKER_11: If you take care of your business and you win out, it's going to be a special season.
- 48:34SPEAKER_11: If you lose one, it still can be.
- 48:37SPEAKER_11: But you've put yourself in that position.
- 48:39SPEAKER_08: So on Instagram, we we posed the question to ask you questions.
- 48:43SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 48:44SPEAKER_08: And we got one from Hey, it's Jordan 10 shout out on Instagram.
- 48:47SPEAKER_08: They asked, Do you get nervous calling each Tennessee game?
- 48:52SPEAKER_11: Everyone.
- 48:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah, whatever it is.
- 48:54SPEAKER_11: Very nervous.
- 48:55SPEAKER_11: Um, once you get into it, you kind of get over that.
- 48:59SPEAKER_11: But the first part, you just really, you know, you feel I feel exactly like I did before I was about to play in a game.
- 49:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 49:08SPEAKER_11: The exact same feeling that I had getting ready to cover the first kickoff.
- 49:14SPEAKER_11: It's it's totally like that to this day.
- 49:18SPEAKER_11: I was having a hard time before the game, and then I started having a hard time in the fourth quarter, too.
- 49:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, once it gets down to it.
- 49:25SPEAKER_11: Well, it's like I think you care.
- 49:27SPEAKER_11: Well, I think we're gonna win this game.
- 49:29SPEAKER_11: And you and you really want it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_11: You want it for the fan base, and you want it for the coaching staff, you want it for Coach Eippel, and you certainly want it for the players and the students, and uh that's what was really cool.
- 49:40SPEAKER_08: So, Britt wants to know what was your reaction with everyone getting on the field, and I guess follow-up if if there were somehow a slide from the press box to the field and you could still do post-game, would you have done it?
- 49:51SPEAKER_11: I would have gone down to interview players.
- 49:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:53SPEAKER_11: Um, I was on the field in 1982, so I've done that.
- 49:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I don't feel the big need to do that again, but you know, from a reporting standpoint, would I have taken the slide down to the field to try to interview people?
- 50:06SPEAKER_11: Absolutely, yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_11: Because I think that would have been a lot of fun.
- 50:10SPEAKER_11: You know, I think that's such a moment for the entire university, and what it shows off is so much more than the athletic department or beating Alabama.
- 50:23SPEAKER_11: That shows people the experience of going to school here.
- 50:28SPEAKER_11: And the experience of going to school here is about being part of something, is about being involved in something.
- 50:35SPEAKER_11: And think about the amount of social media that Tennessee got out of that in terms of trying to recruit prospective students and prospective student athletes athletes.
- 50:47SPEAKER_08: Visuals are incredible.
- 50:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 50:49SPEAKER_11: Why would you not want to be a part of the whole thing?
- 50:51SPEAKER_11: Is we if I see that and I'm thinking about school X, school Y, and Tennessee, yeah, I'm thinking that's where I'm going to school.
- 50:58SPEAKER_08: Well, there's so many current students that saw 24, 22, right.
- 51:03SPEAKER_11: That that to me is a great thing about the experience because you want to take those memories, and wherever you go, you want to be able to come back someday because you want to experience that again.
- 51:14SPEAKER_11: You want to send your kids, you want to tell people about it.
- 51:17SPEAKER_11: It's sales.
- 51:18SPEAKER_11: Fun is fun.
- 51:20SPEAKER_11: Fun is fun.
- 51:21SPEAKER_11: Fun is fun.
- 51:21SPEAKER_11: And remember, fun is good.
- 51:24SPEAKER_11: Yes, all good.
- 51:25SPEAKER_11: Andy Brock, I'm so glad we held on to you as the the top guest on this show.
- 51:31SPEAKER_11: The top guest, the top guest.
