- 0:13You may never hear this reference for a long time, but
- 0:16meet me in first Samuel chapter 30 because we are almost there.
- 0:22I thought that we were going to complete this studying this book
- 0:25today but when I realized what was left in Chapter 30 I thought
- 0:30no, there's still, there's still too much to be said before we
- 0:33conclude this study, so definitely next week, will be
- 0:38their last study. It may be a shorter one but we
- 0:42have a tradition with Our Bible studies.
- 0:44There's anybody know what that is when we complete a book.
- 0:47Yes. And this may be a longer one and
- 0:53I think it excites people to study a little bit more and I
- 0:57like that I like that it excites people to study more so keep
- 1:00that in mind next week it may happen.
- 1:02Next week, it may happen the week after, I don't know, just
- 1:06come prepared anyway. First Samuel, 30.
- 1:11Minion verse 16, please. And our brother just prayed, but
- 1:18it doesn't hurts to pray again. As long as we are sincere in our
- 1:21hearts, Lord, we thank you for your word.
- 1:27And we open it now. Hello, I thank you for this
- 1:31family. Thank you for Gathering Us in
- 1:33this place or despite our week. Despite even the challenges of
- 1:38today, we've come to the sanctuary of your presence and
- 1:43we come to receive from you. Lord, you are our life, you are
- 1:48our strength, you are Our Hope, Lord, you are a delight.
- 1:52And Lord, we realize that there is a miracle that has taken
- 1:56place in our hearts for us to come here on a Friday night.
- 2:00And to enjoy this, that is your work in our lives and may you
- 2:06manifest the person of Jesus Christ, through the revelation
- 2:10of the word into our hearts, so that we would love him the
- 2:15resurrected. Lord, the returning Lord.
- 2:18Oh, Lord, just win our affections of fresh.
- 2:21When them a fresh for you are, worthy of all of our devotion in
- 2:26Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
- 2:31Amen. Amen.
- 2:33There it is. I hope you remember from two
- 2:36weeks ago where we are at in this study.
- 2:39Don't mind what's happening back there.
- 2:41Just focus on me. They'll figure it out.
- 2:44And first Samuel 30, we know that there is a rescue mission
- 2:48that is taking place and the rescue mission that is taking
- 2:52place has to do with David and his men who have lost their
- 2:57wives and their children to the amalekites while they were on a
- 3:00three-day Journey away from this place called ziklag, the
- 3:03amalekites have come and ransacked their home base.
- 3:08They have destroyed the city. They have taken captives David
- 3:12and his men come back. Back to this horrible sight.
- 3:15And that was the turning point in David's, life to come back to
- 3:20the Lord. After a year and four months of
- 3:22being away from the Lord, and God immediately responded with
- 3:26Divine Direction, and guidance and leading.
- 3:31And now he knows where to go. Because in God's Providence,
- 3:34here is a slave out in the wilderness who is left behind by
- 3:38the amalekites David comes and rescues him and then he receives
- 3:43a reward. Bored Beyond his imagination and
- 3:45it was the exact steps needed to go and find his family and bring
- 3:51them back by God's power and promise.
- 3:54That's where we're at. And as we consider that we read
- 3:58in verse 16, what transpires? And when he had taken him down,
- 4:05behold they being the amalekites were spread abroad over all the
- 4:09land eating and drinking and dancing.
- 4:13Because of all the great spoiled that they had taken, from the
- 4:16land of the Philistines. And from the land of Judah, And
- 4:20David struck them down from Twilight until the evening of
- 4:24the next day. And not a man of them escaped,
- 4:27except, for hundred young men, who mounted camels, and fled,
- 4:33David recovered all that the amalekites had taken and David
- 4:38rescued, his two wives. Nothing was missing whether
- 4:41small or Great sons or daughters spoil or anything that had been
- 4:46taken, David brought back all all David also captured all the
- 4:52flocks and herds and the people drove the livestock before him
- 4:56and said this is David's spoil. Consider verse 16 quickly
- 5:03consider the site. They are there they are in the
- 5:07Blackness of that Midnight Hour, and as they approach with the
- 5:11amalekites were, they can hear in the distance, The Sound of
- 5:16Music and the voices of men, Perhaps singing shouting, and
- 5:23there was dancing. There is music, perhaps, and as
- 5:28David and his men, the 400 with him approach to this site.
- 5:32They realized something quite amazing.
- 5:35They are. They are celebrating what they
- 5:38had just done. They are enjoying themselves.
- 5:42They are indulging in the flesh. After committing such evil after
- 5:47such mischief. David finds his men in a place
- 5:51where they are clearly showing little to no concern about their
- 5:55safety. There seems to be no thought
- 5:59about the possibility of a counter-attack from the very
- 6:03people that they had just harmed the very people that they just
- 6:06assaulted there. Is this relaxed careless even
- 6:11Reckless kind of behavior from the amalekites and my question
- 6:16is, why do you think that is? Why do you think The amalekites
- 6:20seem to be so safe and are not on guard.
- 6:28What was happening in the background?
- 6:30There was another war that was taking place against who between
- 6:34who The Philistines, I heard it whispered, and who the Irizarry
- 6:40lights, right? Where the Philistines in their
- 6:43land, or where they three days away from their land, three days
- 6:46away from their land. Yes.
- 6:48And so you see that there is, this miscalculation, there is
- 6:51this false belief that there was a delay.
- 6:54And so they could be relaxed and they could be laid back.
- 7:00And when you look at something like this, it's a clear picture
- 7:03is a not of the spiritual negligence of Sinners today.
- 7:08And even if some saints, who have unfortunately, been
- 7:11influenced by the flesh who get caught up in the frenzy of the
- 7:15flesh, because they think that there is a delay.
- 7:20And they fail to prepare for that Divine judgment.
- 7:23Just like these men are failing to realize that they are dancing
- 7:27and shouting and singing and parting in the shadow of
- 7:32vengeance. It's incredible.
- 7:36Why weren't the amalekites sober-minded?
- 7:38Why weren't they Vigilant? Why weren't they on guard?
- 7:42What? We just heard it.
- 7:44Perhaps, they didn't believe that an attack would come.
- 7:46Well at least not now perhaps, they thought that they were so
- 7:48Victorious that they so conquered.
- 7:51That did not even think that it would ever happen.
- 7:53Whatever the case may be. You see here, unfortunately, a
- 7:57picture of how the world interprets God's judgment.
- 8:02They don't even believe it exists, and so they eat, they
- 8:05drink and tomorrow, they die. And they can live in their flesh
- 8:09and they can destroy the cells. Destroy others, destroy any
- 8:13conviction left in their conscience and just live it up.
- 8:17Not knowing that the eyes of God's Wrath are upon them.
- 8:22And just like David here is looming with his men to execute
- 8:25Vengeance. Here are people today on a
- 8:27Friday night? I can tell you very much that
- 8:29are living just like these amalekites for themselves
- 8:33without any concern about the safety of their own Souls.
- 8:37Without any sense that things can change swiftly and this life
- 8:42that they thought was the climax of their Bliss will turn into
- 8:46just a transition into the real world and that is eternity.
- 8:50And so, I look here at a sad picture.
- 8:54And is even a picture of many professing believers who delayed
- 8:56their surrender, the total surrender to the Lord.
- 8:59They just want to nitpick here of the world and it doesn't
- 9:02work. We must be ready at all times
- 9:05day by day, hour by hour. Now, we come to verse 17, and I
- 9:10says here in David, struck them down from Twilight until the
- 9:14evening of the next day. That's a, that's a pretty
- 9:16incredible accomplishment. Because think about it, when
- 9:22they were with the Philistines David and his men, they have to
- 9:24go back to ziklag. How many days did that?
- 9:26Take three on foot, they get to ziklag, they realize that
- 9:31there's smoke coming from their homes, there's rubble, and they
- 9:34are exhausted physically. Now, add on top of that physical
- 9:37exhaustion, emotional exhaustion, why?
- 9:39Because they left until there was no strength left in them,
- 9:42David seeks. God, this is emergency protocol.
- 9:44God gives answers right away and now he travels through the
- 9:48Wilderness to try to find. His family.
- 9:50You can imagine how bone-tired these men were.
- 9:55So tired that one-third of David's men, 200 out of the 600
- 9:58stay back. It says they were too exhausted
- 10:01to pursue even though their wives and their children were
- 10:04taken, that says something for warriors, who fight for a
- 10:08living? And yet at the same time, we
- 10:10read that on this night from Twilight, they fought throughout
- 10:14the night, throughout the next day until the evening of the
- 10:18next day and they won. And I look at that and I have
- 10:23one thing that comes to mind, that is determination.
- 10:26That is grit, that is commitment, that is sacrificed
- 10:30even at the expense of your comfort and your even Health,
- 10:35which sometimes, oftentimes can be dangerous with be wise.
- 10:39But when I read this, I see something very, very important
- 10:43number one, they were outnumbered.
- 10:45Because what do we read here? 400 young men.
- 10:48And the last verse, the last part of verse 17, who mounted
- 10:51camels and fled. So we know that there were at
- 10:54least four hundred men because 400 of the amalekites left
- 10:58meaning there is many more amalekites and yet David only
- 11:02had 400 in his rank. That's impressive.
- 11:06Second David and his men though, exhausted.
- 11:12Saw something they interpreted this in a very wise way,
- 11:17because, hey, look, if I'm David after three day journey, and who
- 11:20knows how long to come to this point.
- 11:22I see these men clearly do not a threatening position, they're
- 11:26just living it up, they're distracted.
- 11:30Boys. Let's let's call this an item
- 11:31will go to war tomorrow. Let's just rest for maybe a day
- 11:34or two recuperate spee strengthen and then we can come
- 11:38back and deal with these guys. But that's not how they did
- 11:42this. They saw this scene, they saw
- 11:45the posture of the amalekites and they realize, in this
- 11:48moment, this is to our advantage.
- 11:52This is a unique opportunity. This is a window of time that we
- 11:55cannot afford to lose. So we must act now with
- 12:00everything that is left within us.
- 12:04Whatever it demands of us, let us give it all now because we
- 12:08may not have this opportunity again because these men are
- 12:12intoxicated. These men are not Vigilant.
- 12:15They are defenseless, it's a perfect chance for an invasion
- 12:19even though they are outnumbered I look at this, and I realized
- 12:24that, even though these amalekites were in a drunken
- 12:27stupor, David and his men knew that it's time to act now.
- 12:36There's a spiritual lesson here from this, this King in training
- 12:40and his discipline and it is this.
- 12:45You and I have to seize the opportunities at hand.
- 12:49And our service to God. for whatever reason, it is many
- 12:55Believers are tempted to lose dedication when they realize
- 12:59that they are at an advantage. When a Believer is an
- 13:08environment or in a state where they they have great privilege
- 13:13oftentimes that is damaging to their devotion at least the
- 13:17quality of it. You want an example, look at the
- 13:21majority of Christians and America Look at the, the overall
- 13:28attitude of many people in Christendom in the West.
- 13:32You and I live in a country of great opportunity, even
- 13:38spiritually as wicked as our country is, do you realize that
- 13:42as a church as a ministry as Christians, we still have rights
- 13:46that protect us. We still have laws that we can
- 13:49utilize to our advantage. We still have certain Privileges
- 13:56and benefits that can actually help us move forward for the
- 14:00kingdom of God, with Greater Grace and ease and peace. and
- 14:05yet, at the same time, there seems to be a sense of ease in
- 14:11Zion. There seems to be little concern
- 14:17and a general sense for effort greater effort to be given into
- 14:23this awesome opportunity that we have in this land.
- 14:28Why pray so much, why praise so intensely?
- 14:32At least when there's no persecution when there's little
- 14:34problems. Why plan and invest in
- 14:38outreaches? When there's so many things
- 14:40happening through, so many Ministries already, like just
- 14:43have to be so concerned. Why meet together regularly we
- 14:51got something called livestream. I can access my favorite.
- 14:54Bible teachers Dead or Alive on one, click of the button.
- 14:57I don't have to get out of my pajamas.
- 15:00And so there's this strange Temptation, there's a strange
- 15:04thing that happens when we realize that there is there's
- 15:07much Advantage much much ease. But if we learn anything in the
- 15:13past 2 years, do you know what it is?
- 15:15That? Whatever Advantage you and I
- 15:17enjoy can be taken from us in a moment, right?
- 15:22Whatever opportunity lies before us.
- 15:25Can be swept away. Over a weekend.
- 15:30And Jesus gave very, very wise words.
- 15:33In John chapter 9 to his disciples, we must work the work
- 15:36of him. While it is day for night is
- 15:40coming. When no man can work.
- 15:46I believe with all of my heart that if we learn, if we should
- 15:50have learned anything in the past two years, as Believers is
- 15:53don't take what you have in this nation in this generation.
- 16:00So lightly. It can all flip in a moment.
- 16:08And what we thought was something so casual and just
- 16:10part of our weekly schedule something that we can say yes or
- 16:14no to can offer sudden be gone. And Ministry looks much much
- 16:20much different. I never thought I would see the
- 16:22day where Canadian pastors and 2020 2021 would be meeting with
- 16:28their congregations Underground. Anybody see that coming not me.
- 16:35And so you and I have to realize that while it is day, while
- 16:39there is the light of favor upon us, all the more should we give
- 16:43ourselves all the more we should utilize our technology.
- 16:47All the more we should utilize our strength, all the more we
- 16:50should you utilize our resources because night is coming when no
- 16:53man can work. These men saw the opportunity.
- 16:58It was an advantage. They went for it because they
- 17:01knew that they could have lost that opportunity if they waited
- 17:04too long. Verse 18, David recovered all
- 17:09that the amalekites had taken and David rescued, his two
- 17:13wives. Nothing was missing whether
- 17:17small or Great sons or daughters spoiler.
- 17:19Anything that had been taken only one explainable possibility
- 17:24for why, this happened for David?
- 17:26And it is this, the sheer mercy of God, the sheer grace of God,
- 17:32the fact that he came to this place and there was not one Hair
- 17:36missing from his children's heads or one wife missing the
- 17:39fact that none of them were destroyed.
- 17:41None of them were hurt. None of them were sold off into
- 17:44slavery. The fact that they were all
- 17:45intact every single one that one socks on.
- 17:49Not one daughter was gone is just a magnificent display of
- 17:54God's compassion. over a man who didn't deserve it, who didn't
- 18:00deserve it and you and I should consider This Truth for our own
- 18:05lives and just take a moment to reflect on our own history with
- 18:09God and the things that he is allowed to remain and the things
- 18:13that remain intact and the blessings that even continue to
- 18:16flow, especially in moments of sin, even seasons of sin.
- 18:21And yet, and yet still God's grace is there.
- 18:23And it's provision, is there, and his love, is there, his
- 18:25promises are still there. And as much as that is true, we
- 18:31can also make the case that there is an element of human
- 18:35responsibility here on David's part that perhaps made this
- 18:40result a greater possibility. Otherwise Meaning David did
- 18:47something on his part. I know this makes people
- 18:50nervous, right? Especially especially because we
- 18:52love Grace and I love Grace of Grace and anybody else I guess
- 18:58At the same time, there is an element, I believe of human
- 19:02responsibility. That is worth noting.
- 19:07Think about it. What if David when he came to
- 19:10ziklag and he saw the city destroyed.
- 19:13What if he had not immediately broken?
- 19:18And come contract before God and sought him.
- 19:22What if in his frustration he complained what if he had run
- 19:26back to the Philistines to ask for help?
- 19:28What if David had delayed his repentance upon the shocking
- 19:34revelation? Of the ziklag situation.
- 19:39Just imagine that for a second if he had stubbornly just paced
- 19:42back and forth and persisted In the Flesh.
- 19:44If he had just said to himself, what kind of God is this?
- 19:50Remember it was him coming before God praying and receiving
- 19:55direction from Heaven, that brought him to this point.
- 19:58But what if he didn't, at least in the moment?
- 20:02There, I believe there is a case that perhaps there have been a
- 20:06greater risk for harm to be implemented upon the very people
- 20:10he loved that there have been a greater Advantage for the
- 20:13amalekites to have their way because God brought David to
- 20:18ziklag in his Providence. Remember David try to go with
- 20:21the Philistines and God shut that door.
- 20:22So clearly it's almost forced David to go back and there was a
- 20:26timing issue in that God needed him to get back there.
- 20:29It was God's love redirecting. Although a I hurt in the moment
- 20:34that rejection could have been painful. and so, this is what
- 20:38I'm trying to say here, is that when you look at this, We also
- 20:42run the same risk in our lives. If we continually resist, God's
- 20:48conviction about a certain wrong that we are persisting in if we
- 20:53continue to ignore God, if we continued delay, the commands
- 20:57that he calls us to walk in knowingly stubbornly as much as
- 21:05we know that God restores and as much as he replenishes and he
- 21:09renews and he recovers that is all true.
- 21:12There is also the risk that our sin can take much more from us
- 21:18if we're not careful to be prompt and Urgent in our
- 21:21repentance Can you think of commands in the New Testament
- 21:25that tell us to act quickly in certain situations?
- 21:31Think about it. Some Whispers here and there.
- 21:38Think about it. Think about The Sermon on the
- 21:40Mount. Think about the the teaching on
- 21:46forgiveness, teaching on. If you know that you have
- 21:49something that's something has happened between you and her
- 21:51brother, somebody has something against you and you have a gift
- 21:54and you go to the altar. What are you supposed to do
- 21:57worship? And then go Yeah, leave it
- 22:00there. Leave it there and then go.
- 22:03And then Jesus says something quite amazing come to terms
- 22:08quickly with your Accuser. I quickly.
- 22:12Don't wait. Don't delay quickly.
- 22:16This is emergency protocol, because again, we run the risk
- 22:20with specific things, especially that if we delay, there's more
- 22:24damage. There's more damage
- 22:27relationally, there's more damage on ourselves.
- 22:29There's more damage to many things.
- 22:32And so even, even Paul says, in like manner, don't go to bed,
- 22:35don't go to bed. If there's if there's that anger
- 22:37in your heart, that's keeping you up.
- 22:39And you haven't communicated, don't even go to sleep.
- 22:44And so there is a call for each of us as Believers to be prompt
- 22:48with conviction and to not delay, because the delay may be
- 22:52too to cause more unnecessary damage.
- 22:56And that happens so much I'm telling you.
- 22:58There are people who have anger bitterness unforgiveness and
- 23:02because they do not deal with it.
- 23:04It deals with them, and here's what I would like to say.
- 23:09How would you act if you knew your family was kidnapped?
- 23:12Would you wait till tomorrow to make a phone call?
- 23:17Would you say to yourself? You know, it's not that big of a
- 23:19deal. I gotta think about it.
- 23:22Would be ridiculous. But if we saw our sin even in
- 23:28seed form as dangerous to our souls as the amalekites were to
- 23:34David's family when they kidnapped him, I'm sure that we
- 23:37would, we would not be slow to pursue God's Conformity and is
- 23:42standard for us as his Representatives.
- 23:45We would be quick, we would be quick and when you and I are
- 23:49quick, what we do is whatever foothold that we have given
- 23:52Satan, it's slams, the door on that foot.
- 23:56But the longer you do that the longer, you keep that door open
- 24:00and that foot there, then a shoulder gets in, then a leg
- 24:03gets in and then you sit with couples who have been married
- 24:08for decades. And there is a long, huge thick
- 24:12cement wall of bitterness, and unforgiveness.
- 24:15Because instead of dealing it with it, when it was a brick,
- 24:19they built upon it more and more and more.
- 24:22And and now you talk and you hear about the silliest of
- 24:25things. Things that seem to be
- 24:26mountainous in their minds because they didn't deal with it
- 24:29when it was a molehill. David.
- 24:35Although he is being showered by God's grace, God's grace was
- 24:39triggered by the appropriate response to his conviction.
- 24:43I hope that makes sense and I hope that stirs you and I Do you
- 24:47see Jesus in the verses that we just read?
- 24:51Nothing was missing whether small or Great sons or daughters
- 24:54spoiler. Anything that had been taken,
- 24:56David brought back all Nothing was missing.
- 25:05All of David's, possessions came back to David all that was in
- 25:10his name, came back into his arms and when I see David, I see
- 25:17the son of David, don't you? Because Jesus assures us that he
- 25:24will never ever lose his most prized possession.
- 25:30Would you like to know what that is?
- 25:32It's in John 6 39. Look what Jesus says in John
- 25:366:39. I love this verse.
- 25:53And this is the will of him who sent me that I should lose.
- 25:57Nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last
- 26:02day. That I should lose nothing.
- 26:07Now, what do you mean lose nothing?
- 26:09Well, he tells us in the next year's for this is the will of
- 26:11my father that everyone who looks on the son and believes in
- 26:17Him should have eternal life and I will raise him up on the last
- 26:20day. I will raise him up or he's just
- 26:24a prophet. I is just a teacher.
- 26:25Tell me one Prophet that can raise up the Dead.
- 26:27All simultaneously by one command.
- 26:31I will raise him up on the last day but here's the promise.
- 26:34That those who look on him and Believe on him Christ will never
- 26:39let you be lost. He won't lose you.
- 26:45He won't lose you. And so here's how powerful that
- 26:49is, no matter what you go through in life, no matter what
- 26:52threats. Even something as powerful and
- 26:56as final as death itself, when Christ comes to claim you death
- 27:02has to let go of that body so that it can be glorified in his
- 27:06presence forever and ever. He won't lose you.
- 27:10There's not one part of you that will be lost.
- 27:13There's not one part of you that will be missing.
- 27:15Just like David claimed and reclaimed all.
- 27:19So Christ, when Adam and his race forfeited, so much she in
- 27:24his Redemption will redeem us completely.
- 27:28That's a glorious thought. So I'm going to trust the one
- 27:33who actually conquered the grave so that when I entered into
- 27:36grave, guess what if I'm able to if I'm able to I'll memorize a
- 27:42him and I'll be able to sing it and my dying breath, knowing
- 27:46that he's going to claim me one day.
- 27:49And you can do the same if you're in Christ.
- 27:51There's Christ, and crisis and done crisis, are done.
- 27:54Being shown here in David's life.
- 27:56Look what we look what we see next and first, Samuel.
- 28:00In verse 19. This is so exciting.
- 28:05We see here David also in verse 20 captured all the flocks and
- 28:11herds and the people drove the livestock before him and said,
- 28:14this is David spoil. So there's an additional thing
- 28:17that happens. Not only does David reclaim
- 28:21restore. He also adds he wins a spoil on
- 28:26top of what was his. There is greater reward, and
- 28:30here's the beauty about this reward, this reward on top of
- 28:34what belongs. Long to him was shared with his
- 28:37men. These men were sharing in that
- 28:41spoil and we're also experiencing the great Treasures
- 28:46that was claimed and Juan by David himself.
- 28:51And that's exactly what Christ has done with you.
- 28:53And I that when Jesus conquered death, when he went on that
- 28:57cross, he did not just purchase us, he purchased things for us.
- 29:04He purchased things for us. All you have to do is go to
- 29:07Ephesians 1 and see the list of the spiritual blessings that
- 29:10belong to us. All you have to do is realize
- 29:12what the inheritance of the Holy Spirit does for us.
- 29:16And that's what the blood did. Jesus goes into the enemy's
- 29:20Camp. Yes to save us but then as we
- 29:23walk out with them like these men, there are Treasures that he
- 29:27begins to share with the redeemed.
- 29:31And I find that so true in the New Testament.
- 29:36But you know what I find. So amazing here is that these
- 29:39men who had this this flock, and the herds, this great, great
- 29:44parade of possessions. Guess what they were saying?
- 29:49Well, what was it? Other saying?
- 29:50This is who spoil David spoil? I love that.
- 29:54This is David spoil. I don't know if they chanted it.
- 29:58I don't know if they said it once.
- 29:59I don't know if they said it throughout the Journey Back.
- 30:02But they were affirming that even though this was purchased
- 30:05for them, even though they get to enjoy this, even though they
- 30:08got to enjoy with their families, that it all came back
- 30:11to David, it all belonged to David.
- 30:16And you, and I have to understand that.
- 30:19We're not just forgiving. We're not just headed to an
- 30:21eternal Garden of Eden. We have received rewards, we've
- 30:26been given gifts, even giving gifts in Christ.
- 30:31And I know some people that receive gifts not when they were
- 30:33just born, I believe God gives people when they were born, and
- 30:36they could choose what to do with that gift, either.
- 30:38Use it for the world, and their own profit of, for God's glory,
- 30:41but I believe also that God gives gifts upon conversion.
- 30:46God gives gifts God gives callings, God gives a promise
- 30:50that we will rule and reign with him forever and ever.
- 30:53God ensures us. Also that there are specific
- 30:56reward, just read Revelation to see the specific prizes that are
- 30:59weight that away, those who overcome, and we will be with
- 31:03him, granted by Christ, forever and ever.
- 31:05And what's our response to that? What they say here?
- 31:08This is David spoil. so anything that you enjoy anything that you
- 31:14have experience because of Christ, whatever, Deliverance,
- 31:18whatever, piece, whatever Joy, whatever blessings that your
- 31:21family is knowing what you invited Christ into that home,
- 31:24no matter what kind of success you have known in Ministry, No
- 31:28matter what it is that you have known because of Jesus Christ in
- 31:31the end, you and I have to say the same thing as these men.
- 31:35This is because of Christ and this all belongs to Christ.
- 31:40It's his he gave it, he purchased it and we just enjoy
- 31:47it. And that's what's so incredible.
- 31:50A David, David didn't hoard all of this to himself you're going
- 31:53to read. He's gonna give it all out and
- 31:57that is the generosity of Jesus Christ.
- 32:00Look, I'm good with just getting into Gates, I don't know about
- 32:03you. I'm good with just slipping in
- 32:08and finding some Corridor in heaven and staying there.
- 32:11I don't even need a house. Just let me sleep on the golden
- 32:13street. I'll be good.
- 32:17But he doesn't, he doesn't just do that Isaiah 53 tells us that
- 32:21he divides the spoil with the strong.
- 32:26Meaning he goes beyond that his grace says, I'm going to redeem
- 32:29you. I'm going to bring you into my
- 32:31presence but I want to Crown you and I want you to sit on my
- 32:35throne and my father's Throne. I'm okay.
- 32:39Lord with the gold Street, I don't need to sit up there with
- 32:42you but he wants to he bids us. I mean his grace is so
- 32:48overflowing. That although this is sufficient
- 32:52that the tokens of his love, his wounds should suffice and it
- 32:56will be the theme of our song he says.
- 32:58Now, let me pick you up with these same hands and let me
- 33:00Elevate you, it's absolutely mind-blowing.
- 33:04It really is when you see it when you get deep and study and
- 33:09you see what awaits us even Beyond Redemption.
- 33:13I don't know how you can have a bad day coming to church.
- 33:15I just don't know how you can't sing its glorious.
- 33:19And what we do saying is, is this is David spoil.
- 33:22This is Christ spoiled this belongs to him?
- 33:24This is because of him. And what happens in verse 21.
- 33:32Then David came to the 200 men who had been too exhausted to
- 33:36follow David. And who had been left at the
- 33:39brook before and they went out to meet David and to meet the
- 33:43people who were with him and when David came near to the
- 33:47people, he greeted them, I just try to imagine it, you have
- 33:49David 400 men with all their wives and their children walking
- 33:55back. You can imagine the hugs and the
- 33:57kisses you can imagine the kids jumping in their dad's arms,
- 34:01these fathers putting their arms around their wives.
- 34:04And then these two hundred men who haven't seen their family,
- 34:06who didn't know It happened, we're staying back with the
- 34:09luggage, see them in the Horizon, and they approached
- 34:11them, and they Embrace and they there's a joyful celebration,
- 34:16our righteous celebration, unlike the amalekites, and all
- 34:19for a sudden, this glorious moment is interrupted
- 34:25momentarily, it's interrupted by something that's so
- 34:28disappointing. It's should be disappointing to
- 34:30be found amongst those who claim to be among the righteous.
- 34:34Look at verse 22. Then all the wicked and
- 34:38worthless fellows. Among The Men Who had gone with
- 34:41David said, because they did not go with us.
- 34:43We will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered,
- 34:48except that each man may lead away.
- 34:50His wife and children and depart So as these four hundred come
- 34:58they recognize that David is about to give some of the spoil
- 35:02to these men and their minds ago.
- 35:05That is not, that's not fair, that's not fair.
- 35:09And so, they voiced their frustration and they say, they
- 35:14should just get the bare minimum, they let them take
- 35:16their wives, and their kids, and let them go that they should
- 35:20have no part. They didn't come out with us,
- 35:21they didn't fight with us. And you know what's incredible?
- 35:27I hope you saw it because when I saw, I was shocked me almost how
- 35:30the Holy Spirit. Describes these men.
- 35:35What is he called them? Wicked.
- 35:41Worthless. Huh.
- 35:47Wait. Okay, call call Salzman Wicked
- 35:49and worthless. I get it.
- 35:50You're telling me the men Who followed David?
- 35:56Who trusted God's command with David and under David's lead
- 36:00though? Some of those men were Wicked
- 36:02and worthless. What is that say?
- 36:09I'm actually asking you, how is it that these men or what does
- 36:13it reveal at least that these men because the Bible is not
- 36:15lying about them? It's not an exaggeration.
- 36:17This is a true commentary on their character.
- 36:19They are wicked and they are worthless.
- 36:22How can that be any idea? Okay, so they're not really
- 36:33didn't have their own personal faith.
- 36:35That is trusting a David's leadership.
- 36:36Okay, it's possibility. Their intentions may be sure.
- 36:44They wanted to withhold something that didn't belong to
- 36:46them. We're onto something there.
- 36:48Yes. Anything else.
- 36:51Pride is definite part of it. There's a judgmental attitude.
- 37:01Towards who? Yeah, that's another thing too.
- 37:10I mean, it makes you wonder if the worthless wicked men were
- 37:13the same men that suggested to the others.
- 37:15That's why don't we Stone David possibility.
- 37:20Worthless and wicked men. Here's, here's at least.
- 37:26Three thoughts coming from that truth?
- 37:29The first one, is the fact that these men, these men here, Were
- 37:35among a righteous group. There are among a good and
- 37:41faithful group, who recognize the anointing on David's life,
- 37:45who recognize Saul's corruption, who recognize that there is a
- 37:49high price to be associated with Dave, but we're willing to pay
- 37:52that price. And yet all at the same time,
- 37:56there were corrupt. They were corrupt.
- 38:00Now, pay attention here, this will do some good.
- 38:03All right, this is really important.
- 38:05This is the first time that we have any indication of wicked
- 38:10and worthless men being among David's faithful group.
- 38:16What was the last solid description of this man that we
- 38:18receive go just back a few chapters just to see it and
- 38:21there was no hint of It. Go the first same of 22 verse 2
- 38:24and remember how we were introduced to these men when
- 38:26they join David in the first place.
- 38:29And first Samuel, 22 verse 2. We are told about the same group
- 38:32at least the core group, the first 400. and everyone who is
- 38:37in this dress and everyone who was in debt and everyone who is
- 38:41bitter and sold gathered to him, I read that I don't see that
- 38:47there are wicked people who joined them.
- 38:49I don't see Rebels. I see people who are sick and
- 38:51tired of being on their Saul's Reign who recognize what God had
- 38:55placed on David's life. What God had in mind for Israel,
- 38:57through David and they went out knowing that they could have
- 39:00been killed for doing so risking their lives.
- 39:03Their families lives to pledge themselves to the truth.
- 39:07To pledge themselves to that, which was right.
- 39:12And yet near the end of the book.
- 39:16Among those. Were some Wicked.
- 39:22And worthless men. Here's what I want to tell you.
- 39:27This teaches us that oftentimes it takes time.
- 39:31It takes time for the nature of some to be revealed.
- 39:37It will not be manifested immediately, but eventually will
- 39:40be exposed even those who are joined to an assembly or group,
- 39:44who is for the truth, who loves the truth or willing to pay a
- 39:48price for the truth. That's huge.
- 39:53That's huge. It wasn't there immediately.
- 39:57They just showed up at the right time.
- 40:01That might happen in your life. Is this true?
- 40:07That might happen? It might not happen immediately
- 40:09just give it a few years. Give it a little bit of time,
- 40:13given the right circumstances. And and those suit you suppose
- 40:18were for the truth, Who Loved Bible, who love prayer, who love
- 40:22worship. The real thing comes out.
- 40:29And it can be shocking to discover.
- 40:32As I'm sure it was shocking to you.
- 40:33When you realize that among the 400 there are wicked and
- 40:36worthless fellows. So, if it does happen, don't be
- 40:40too shocked. Even 1 out of the 12 and Jesus
- 40:44group was filled with the Devil. It's just another another
- 40:51reality of our relationships and Christian Living, but there's
- 40:55another thing to learn from this wicked and worthless fellows.
- 40:58And it is this It's not that they were Wicked just because
- 41:02they thought David was unfair. It's because they wanted the 200
- 41:07who stayed behind to be removed altogether.
- 41:11Look back at verse 22. Notice what they say in the end,
- 41:15except that each man may lead away.
- 41:18His wife and children and depart get out of here, go away.
- 41:25We want nothing to do with you anymore.
- 41:28I believe that is the essence at least a part of the reason why
- 41:34they're called worthless and wicked.
- 41:37Essentially what this group of men wanted to do was divided the
- 41:40group They wanted to sow Discord, they wanted to to
- 41:45remove people for no righteous purpose for no significant
- 41:50reason. All they wanted to do was
- 41:52satisfy their frustration, all they wanted to do was was deal
- 41:57with their greed. And these people stood in the
- 41:59way of their greed, You want us to spread it with and there's no
- 42:03way we want them to go and the scriptures are abundantly.
- 42:07Clear? Like, so scary clear about the
- 42:10great crime. It is when someone intentionally
- 42:13seeks to bring Division if it's just between 2 or 200, To
- 42:20achieve a selfish end. Whether that end is to deal with
- 42:25some anger or to acquire something that you think someone
- 42:30departing will give to you. In God's eyes.
- 42:34When there is a plan and an execution to bring about a
- 42:40ripping of relationships, among the Brethren God has a very
- 42:44strong word for it, and it is this abomination.
- 42:48That's, that's kind of crazy because I read the Old
- 42:50Testament. I see that bestiality is known
- 42:52as an Abomination and I can see how but in God's eyes, when
- 42:57there is an intention to bring division among people, it's
- 43:03equal in his eyes as an abomination.
- 43:06That's significant. Actually the scripture tells us
- 43:09that there are six things that the Lord hates seven.
- 43:14That are an Abomination to him. Bible study.
- 43:17Yes, let's name a few lying lips.
- 43:22Yes. Shedding of innocent blood.
- 43:28Absolutely Haughty eyes, very good.
- 43:35False witness. Absolutely.
- 43:40Sowing Discord among Brethren. Yes, already have five down, I
- 43:45believe if I counted right there, a couple more.
- 43:48Seven things that the Lord considers an abomination.
- 43:54The two last ones are a little harder.
- 43:56So I I'll be very impressive, somebody can get the last two.
- 44:03Say that again. Yes.
- 44:05Feet that are quick to do evil. One more.
- 44:14Somebody said something, I think they got it.
- 44:18Yes Bravo yes. A Heart That devises Wicked
- 44:22plans. So if you want to know where
- 44:24this list is because look, I don't want to know just what God
- 44:27loves. I want to know what he hates.
- 44:29And the list is found in Proverbs 6, 16 to 17.
- 44:32I want you to look there quickly.
- 44:35And Proverbs 6 16 to 17, there are six things that the Lord
- 44:41hates seven that are an Abomination to him.
- 44:45Abomination is like abhorrent listen.
- 44:48That word means disgusting. now, if I were to ask you to give me
- 44:54your top 10 7 list of the most heinous and ugly and vile
- 44:57things, you can think of Obviously, this is not limited,
- 45:02this is not an exclusive list but it's amazing what God
- 45:05highlights. Verse 17, haughty eyes, a lying
- 45:10tongue hands, that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises
- 45:13Wicked plans feet, that make haste to run to evil.
- 45:16A false witness who breathes out lies that somebody who like,
- 45:21like they lie and they don't even know they're lying.
- 45:24Like, it just, it's as easy as breathing and one.
- 45:27Who sews Discord among Brothers. Here's my question.
- 45:31What do all these sins have in common?
- 45:36Since we're here. What all these things have in
- 45:42common? You got it?
- 45:48It's something that one commits, another against another, it's
- 45:51relational. Every single one of these sins
- 45:54has to deal with how someone treats another person.
- 45:57Even down to haughty eyes. Now he could have said a proud
- 46:00heart, but this is showing that it's a pride that has seen a
- 46:04pride that looks down on someone else.
- 46:06So even the sight of The Proud is a statement to others.
- 46:13And this is what God is saying that, what he considers, an
- 46:17Abomination is how we would treat someone and the following
- 46:22ways. You know, what's another thing
- 46:26that's significant about this list of abominable practices,
- 46:30they all happen to the Lord Jesus.
- 46:34Each of these things happened to him throughout his ministry.
- 46:38Each of them, if you really think about it haughty eyes, a
- 46:42lying tongue hands. That shed innocent blood.
- 46:44Think about it, a heart that devises, Wicked plans feet, that
- 46:48make haste to run to evil a false witness who breathes out
- 46:51lies and one who sows Discord among Brothers.
- 46:54How was that have when the Pharisees were in the crowd
- 46:56before Pilate? And they were convincing the
- 46:58crowd to have Jesus crucified? All of these things.
- 47:03Jesus Christ himself experience and this is what so profound
- 47:07about this. If these things are so
- 47:09abominable to God when when it is done from one party against
- 47:13another, how much more was it? For him to be the recipient of
- 47:20all of these things. If he absolutely hates it.
- 47:25When one does it to another? What was going through God's
- 47:29mind? When all of it was poured out on
- 47:31him? How did he tolerate it?
- 47:37And the answer is very simple, as much as she hates these
- 47:41things, as much as they are. Absolutely vile.
- 47:45He did it because of love. That's How Strong his love is
- 47:50that he was willing to endure it and, and I'll allow it.
- 47:55Without retaliation without judgment immediately because he
- 47:58wanted to accomplish a greater, and he wanted to redeem the very
- 48:01same ones who are doing these things to him.
- 48:03That's the strength of God's love.
- 48:06It's incredible. and when you see here that the seventh one is
- 48:12one who sows Discord among Brothers, some would believe
- 48:16that this is actually being the seventh, the climactic The
- 48:21climactic expression. Of his hatred.
- 48:27And this collection of Evil's, it's as though, to say, ulis one
- 48:31after the next. And then he's like and the top
- 48:33of the tier, the one that really gets my Fury moving is when
- 48:40somebody shows Discord among Brothers, Says, something about
- 48:45our God. And these men were doing that.
- 48:49They were trying to cause Discord the vision.
- 48:52And we come to David's response and closing and verse 23.
- 48:55But David said, You shall not do so my brother's how he calls on
- 49:01my brothers. Still, it's incredible.
- 49:05With what the Lord has given us. He has preserved us and given
- 49:08into our hand, the band that came against us, who would
- 49:11listen to you in this matter. I love that because he can call
- 49:16him my brothers but he can also rebuked them.
- 49:17Like your what you're saying is ridiculous.
- 49:20My brothers. Who would listen to in this
- 49:23matter for as his share is who goes down into battle.
- 49:27So shall they share be who stays by the baggage?
- 49:30They shall share alike. I wish we had the time we're
- 49:36already getting to the clothes. I wish we had the time to just
- 49:40really dissect there's so much in David's response.
- 49:42Here's a here's a brief comparison.
- 49:45Notice verse 23 and compared to verse 22 notice how David
- 49:48interprets the victory compared to the men.
- 49:51What did the men say? The middle of verse 22.
- 49:57We will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered.
- 50:03And look at David, says, in verse 23, you shall not do.
- 50:06So, my brother's with what the Lord has given us Isn't that
- 50:11awesome? We're not going to give them
- 50:15what we have recovered and in David comes and goes this is
- 50:18God's. This is a Lords And David here
- 50:22in this simple. Revelation of his thought
- 50:28process shows us the great cure, the great cure against
- 50:32covetousness jealousy Envy a lack of generosity or
- 50:38Hospitality an unwillingness to extend a hand that might cost
- 50:43you something. There's a great cure and it is
- 50:46this very simple. You have to really believe that
- 50:49everything you have is God's. That's it.
- 50:53So many things fall off with that belief.
- 50:58So many things are solved with that belief and you see it when
- 51:03we get to 2nd Samuel, when we get 2 Chronicles, who knows when
- 51:08especially Chronicles that mindset live with David until
- 51:11his dying breath? He really believed it.
- 51:13He believed that now when he was a fugitive and he believed it
- 51:16when he had access to resources, that you could not even imagine
- 51:19the whole time, you believe this is God's, this is God's.
- 51:25I remember somebody long time ago, told me to take something
- 51:30and give it to somebody else. and they just said, just give it
- 51:34to them and just, you know, Just don't even say who it came from.
- 51:38I said, okay? And when I went to the person, I
- 51:40gave them that gift that person looked at me and thanked me and
- 51:46I said, look, it didn't come from me and there was nothing in
- 51:49my heart that was hesitant to extend it because it didn't even
- 51:53belong to me. Anyway, I was just extending it.
- 51:55I was just passing it along. It came from someone else.
- 51:58And there's such a liberty and there was a joy, seeing the
- 52:01person's Joy, but I knew who was the source of that.
- 52:04Joy who was the person that contributed to this person's?
- 52:06Ting and I was just there to experience.
- 52:08I was just there to give it and to just see the see the person
- 52:11feel and know that they have been blessed.
- 52:14Okay. That's how you.
- 52:15And I have to live with everything with absolutely
- 52:18everything. Not only do you, do you feel a
- 52:21liberty there? But you also know a humility
- 52:24there. If I bought a cake for our
- 52:27fellowship, this Sunday, I came down, open it up cut into pieces
- 52:30and gave it to everybody and people start saying you're a
- 52:33wonderful Chef. I'm not going to be able to take
- 52:35that to my heart. I didn't.
- 52:36Good thing I didn't bake at her maybe using the right
- 52:38terminology. I bought it and I brought it to
- 52:41you. This isn't mine.
- 52:44I didn't purchase it. I just delivered it.
- 52:48And so, if you have to do whatever you need to do to
- 52:52instill this and embed this, in your mind.
- 52:54Nothing belongs to me like tell yourself as much as you can.
- 52:57Not Lord help me believe that. Nothing nothing really belongs
- 53:00to me, and when you get there and you see slow victories,
- 53:04small leaps of great. Great Conquest there.
- 53:09And that belief system, you will know greater Liberty.
- 53:11In generosity, Hospitality freedom from any type of
- 53:15jealousy or lust for things. It's an incredible truth and
- 53:20David is showing that here, but listen and closing David is
- 53:24telling us a third possibility of why these men were Wicked and
- 53:27worthless. You know why?
- 53:32Perhaps you would debate me on this, but I believe one reason
- 53:34is because these four hundred or at least some among them, not
- 53:37all of them. Did not see the value or the
- 53:41worth, from those 200. They did not calculate what they
- 53:48brought to the table. They despise them, they want
- 53:54nothing to do with them. And they fail to see how
- 53:59dependent upon them. They actually were And perhaps
- 54:05that. That in God's mind.
- 54:08Cause them to be labeled as such You Don't See.
- 54:14What they have to offer, you don't see that apart from them,
- 54:18you could not be where you are now.
- 54:23And David says, they they deserve just as much as you too.
- 54:27You went to war. That's great.
- 54:29But they stayed back and they watched over our stuff and they
- 54:32risk their lives in a different way.
- 54:34Their service is not less significant than yours.
- 54:37Each of us deserve to be rewarded and that is an awesome
- 54:40picture of how Jesus. Our captain views all of his
- 54:47servants in whatever Ministry that God has called them to do.
- 54:52And we often can fall into this same trap by by praising that
- 54:59which is obvious. And under appreciating that
- 55:03which we don't think plays a significant role in the
- 55:06advancement of God's kingdom or blessings in our own lives
- 55:09happens, a lot happens, directly happens indirectly, And I want
- 55:14to just show you one example of how God thinks from the New
- 55:17Testament and this is, this is the last verse reference for the
- 55:20Bible study. This is going to, this is going
- 55:24to encourage you. I hope and First Chronicles
- 55:26rather Corinthians chapter 12 28, God list some gifts.
- 55:33And perhaps you'd be amazed to see how he lists these gifts at
- 55:36least in this passage of scripture.
- 55:39And First Corinthians 1228. And God has appointed in the
- 55:48church first apostles, second prophets third teachers, then
- 55:53Miracles, then Gifts of healing. Helping administrating, and
- 55:57various kinds of tongues. And most people come to this
- 56:03verse and say, what are the various kinds of tongues?
- 56:07I get the Curiosity. But maybe you're missing
- 56:11something that's very, very significant.
- 56:15Anything stand out to you year. Here's what stands out to me
- 56:20that when Paul lists the gifts of healing.
- 56:24Right away, he lists the gifts of helping. and so who do you
- 56:31think would get more attention and appreciation in the church,
- 56:36the one that has a gift that whoever you bring to and he
- 56:38prays for God has some favor, that works through him that
- 56:40people get healed or the one that helps in the background to
- 56:43make the service a little bit, less distracting and more
- 56:46graceful I think we know the answer to that.
- 56:53God's mind. They're all important.
- 56:57They're equally needed. They are just as much as gifts.
- 57:02No matter what kind of power or what kind of miraculous
- 57:04abilities behind? One God sees no greater one next
- 57:09to the other. They're connecting forces that
- 57:13are necessary for the overall health and the overall happiness
- 57:17of the church. Gifts of helping gives of
- 57:22helping, I find that amazing gifts of healing.
- 57:25And then in the next breath, the gift of helping.
- 57:31And whoever has the gift of helping.
- 57:35Will be rewarded just as much as the one who is faithful as a
- 57:39gift of a teacher. We have to believe that not just
- 57:44for ourselves, but that when we come together and we see
- 57:47somebody operating the gift of administration or the gift of
- 57:50helping who who have an eye to see a need and move upon that
- 57:54need, who are willing to be the first one to volunteer their
- 57:57time or energy to contribute to a gap in the church.
- 58:00When we see that we should, we should praise God.
- 58:03The same way he Praises them in a verse just like this, for
- 58:06example, And I wonder if these men back in David's story.
- 58:12I wonder if they're, they're ugly Behavior. is because they
- 58:18don't know the worth that each person offers in their own
- 58:23group. And could it be that there are
- 58:26people who cause trouble? Who caused issues within the
- 58:30church family because they can't look and see that every person
- 58:35in this place is needed and valuable.
- 58:41When you have somebody who believes that, it's all about
- 58:44them, and without them, nothing that person's going to cause
- 58:47trouble that person's going to start saying stuff that person
- 58:50is going to start bulldozing. And even causing some to depart.
- 58:58And I know one thing about those who refuse to be part of a local
- 59:01church, by the way, at least one thing.
- 59:05Those who are quick to vocalize their disgust with the bride of
- 59:08Christ, those who are quick to criticize and despise what she
- 59:11has to offer. They don't understand that they
- 59:15need that group of people to be more successful, in whatever God
- 59:20has called them to do their our spiritual selves.
- 59:27And David institutes a law from this.
- 59:30I close here. It says, you're back in the
- 59:34verses that we were covering and he and verse 25 made a statute
- 59:37and a rule for Israel from that day.
- 59:39For to this day, he made that a law.
- 59:42He made that a law to solidify the unity of the people of
- 59:46Israel. And I look what he does when
- 59:49David came to ziklag, he sent part of the spoiled his friends.
- 59:52The Elders of Judah saying here is a present for you from the
- 59:55spoil, the enemies of the Lord and then he lists the different
- 59:59towns and cities. So he goes, even Beyond his
- 1:00:04immediate group, there were such a great spoil that he goes out
- 1:00:06and he sends different packages to these different towns.
- 1:00:12And he's exemplifying, what he's preaching.
- 1:00:14What he is saying is law, what is so important to hold on to
- 1:00:18his living it out. And the question is, why look at
- 1:00:21verse 34, all the places where David and his men had roamed.
- 1:00:27So, he is rewarding and blessing, those that throughout
- 1:00:30his Wilderness, Trek, escaping and hiding from Saul, there are
- 1:00:35certain people in the land of Judah who are hiding him and
- 1:00:38taking care of him and providing for him and some time had
- 1:00:41passed. But David had not forgotten, I'm
- 1:00:44going to bless you for that. And so it wasn't just those who
- 1:00:49had swords who fought that were rewarded.
- 1:00:51It was those who even played a role to say we're going to just
- 1:00:53take care of you for a night to we're going to we're going to
- 1:00:55provide for you and your men here and David bless them
- 1:00:59equally as he did to those who went out into battle and that's
- 1:01:03the same picture that's the same.
- 1:01:05God, God is going to reward things that are going to shock
- 1:01:08us. Some telling you he's going to
- 1:01:11reward people, they're going to shock us.
- 1:01:15But he's especially going to reward a certain group of
- 1:01:17people. And who's that group of people?
- 1:01:24for all the places where David and his men had roamed, David
- 1:01:28had reward his men. Yes, because of their great love
- 1:01:30and care and concern when he was in his lowest point.
- 1:01:33But David is going to reward these men because these men,
- 1:01:37these groups of people, these families, these Elders did
- 1:01:40something. They did something for David,
- 1:01:43that very few people did when he was at this point in his
- 1:01:45ministry and that was showing him loyalty.
- 1:01:51Loyalty. They stuck by David when it was
- 1:01:55unpopular. They stood by David when it
- 1:01:58would cost them much, they stood by David.
- 1:02:02When the arrest when the majority under Saul's Reign were
- 1:02:05causing trouble for David. And reading this be encouraged.
- 1:02:13That the Lord. We'll take into consideration
- 1:02:17your loyalty and mind especially when it is a costly thing to be
- 1:02:23associated with Jesus. What are you going to do?
- 1:02:30What are you gonna do? What am I going to do?
- 1:02:34When people that we love turned their backs on Christ?
- 1:02:42What are we going to do when people forsake the ministry?
- 1:02:46Will you be loyal? Help sell.
- 1:02:50I want to tell you something, the longer become a Christian,
- 1:02:54the sweeter it gets its true but also at the same time, it's
- 1:02:59hard. It's hard.
- 1:03:06And you will know it sooner, if you haven't realized that yet.
- 1:03:10I was speaking to a group of people, most of them were young,
- 1:03:12and I was preaching on a certain subject, and I had the, I had
- 1:03:15the inclination that most of these people probably are not
- 1:03:17going to get what I'm saying. And I had to say it out loud.
- 1:03:19I said, some of you, I just have to stop and say, there's some of
- 1:03:21you haven't lived long enough. You haven't been smashed by life
- 1:03:25yet to understand what I'm saying.
- 1:03:29So, remember what I'm saying? When it does happen though, just
- 1:03:33continued on from there. And I'll say that to some here.
- 1:03:36Not because your rebellious or Disobedience because you haven't
- 1:03:38walked long enough. Yet, Paul said that through many
- 1:03:43tribulations. We must enter the kingdom of
- 1:03:46God. I was meditating on that verse
- 1:03:48all afternoon today. Through many tribulations, we
- 1:03:51must enter. That's Christians, many
- 1:03:53tribulations. Do you know what that tells me?
- 1:03:54And it dawned on me, it tells me this that the description of the
- 1:03:59experience of the average Christian who has made Jesus
- 1:04:03Christ Lord and Your is this many tribulations through life?
- 1:04:10Not few not sporadic men. Many.
- 1:04:16So all of us we have different giftings, different callings,
- 1:04:20different backgrounds, different cultures.
- 1:04:22Sure. One thing a common among many in
- 1:04:25Christ. And this is this, many
- 1:04:27tribulations, are you? And I going to walk through, you
- 1:04:31know, what Christ is calling for, because he deserves it
- 1:04:34loyalty. Loyalty.
- 1:04:38Why? Because he's worthy as simple as
- 1:04:43that, he is worthy. Would you tell him that he is
- 1:04:46worthy today as we close? This Bible study Lord, we thank
- 1:04:51you for this study. And these final verses of this
- 1:04:54chapter, thank you for giving us the grace to receive these words
- 1:04:59with attentive Minds though. We know that it is a difficult
- 1:05:02time of the week for many who work all week.
- 1:05:05But Lord, we pray that what we've heard, would have an
- 1:05:09impact on our souls and we ask Lord Jesus.
- 1:05:12Oh, help us in these times to know that you will look upon us
- 1:05:17with great favor. When you see that we are
- 1:05:21Overcomers in Jesus, help us be faithful.
- 1:05:27Help us know that though, at this time there may not be great
- 1:05:30reward, a reward is coming and Lord from the depths of our
- 1:05:34heart. We admit that the greatest
- 1:05:36reward is the smile on your face.
- 1:05:39Nothing else means anything. We just ask Lord, that you would
- 1:05:42prepare us for the tribulations that we have now and that will
- 1:05:46come, we ask Lord that you would help us not be B.
- 1:05:51Worthless. Or Wicked to wear one another.
- 1:05:57But that old God, we would see the value that each of us have.
- 1:06:02The role that we each play in each other's lives, open our
- 1:06:05eyes to see it. We worship you tonight in this
- 1:06:09place. We give you.
- 1:06:09Glory and praise. Amen.
