- 1:40cetera.
- 1:40Who am I?
- 1:41I'm John C.
- 1:42Morley.
- 1:43I'm a serial entrepreneur.
- 1:44I'm an engineer, a marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:48podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong learner,
- 1:53a graduate student at Montclair State University.
- 1:56Yes, and so grateful now to be a
- 1:58published author.
- 2:00Welcome, everyone.
- 2:01Today, on June 20, 2026, Saturday, we begin
- 2:05with a new direction, not about doing more,
- 2:09not about pushing harder, but about protecting what
- 2:15already fuels everything we do.
- 2:18What is that?
- 2:19Your energy.
- 2:20That's an interesting thing, right?
- 2:22Your energy.
- 2:24The core message here is this.
- 2:27Your energy is not random, guys.
- 2:29Nope, it's not.
- 2:30It is directional.
- 2:32It flows where access is granted.
- 2:36And once it flows, it does not return
- 2:39the same way ever again.
- 2:41This is why your circle matters more than
- 2:44your schedule, because the people closest to you
- 2:48shape the pace, the tone, and direction of
- 2:51your entire future, not just today, not just
- 2:54tomorrow, not just the week, the month, the
- 2:56quarter, or even the year, but your entire
- 2:57future.
- 2:59Some important insights I want to share with
- 3:01you today.
- 3:01Number one, not everyone deserves equal access to
- 3:05your time.
- 3:06Access must be intentional, not automatic.
- 3:09And we have to be careful who we
- 3:11give access to.
- 3:12Number two, energy leaks often come from the
- 3:15wrong conversations.
- 3:17Words can drain more than the effort.
- 3:20Number three, you don't need more people.
- 3:25No.
- 3:26You need better alignment.
- 3:27Quality reduces clarity.
- 3:29Alignment increases it.
- 3:32Most people don't think that.
- 3:33They think that if they have more, they're
- 3:36going to have more.
- 3:37More is less when it comes to the
- 3:40circle of you.
- 3:41Number four, access to you should be earned,
- 3:44not assumed or presumed.
- 3:45Your presence has value, and it's high time
- 3:48you start acting like it.
- 3:50Number five, protecting your mornings protects your entire
- 3:54direction.
- 3:55Early energy sets the tone for everything in
- 3:59your life.
- 3:59I think a lot of people, when they
- 4:01hear, oh, I've always got five minutes.
- 4:03Yes, you got five minutes, but five minutes,
- 4:0410 minutes, it kind of eats up your
- 4:07time.
- 4:12And that's something a lot of people don't
- 4:13understand.
- 4:15They don't understand that.
- 4:17And I want to tell you that it's
- 4:19important that you understand that one thing.
- 4:26And I'll tell you that's something that a
- 4:29lot of people miss.
- 4:30Number six, silence is a natural filtering system.
- 4:35What remains when noise is removed is clarity.
- 4:41Number seven, not every invitation deserves acceptance.
- 4:44Saying no is a form of protection, because
- 4:46what no does to others is it allows
- 4:48us to say yes to ourselves.
- 4:52I think that's a very important thing.
- 4:54Sometimes people think they're being selfish or rude
- 4:56by doing it.
- 4:56You're not.
- 4:57You're actually allowing yourself to grow.
- 5:01Number eight, your circle directly influences your next
- 5:05level.
- 5:06Environment shapes elevation.
- 5:08So I think we have to be conscious
- 5:10of it and the people that are around
- 5:12us, because they make up the environment.
- 5:14Number nine, outgrowing people is a normal progression,
- 5:18not rejection.
- 5:19Growth changes proximity naturally.
- 5:22We don't have to force it.
- 5:24Sometimes we just grow out of connection with
- 5:26people.
- 5:27Nothing wrong with that.
- 5:28It happens.
- 5:29We basically grow apart, and it happens.
- 5:36Number 10, loyalty without growth becomes limitation.
- 5:40Stagnation disguised as loyalty is, well, very costly.
- 5:45Number 11, guys, choose people who build, not
- 5:48just entertain.
- 5:50See, contribution matters more than presence.
- 5:54There was a guy several weeks ago on
- 5:55LinkedIn that asked me, do I know any
- 5:58tricks for parties to get people's attention?
- 6:03And I said, yes.
- 6:04But I said, really, you should just be
- 6:06yourself and become genuinely interested in the other
- 6:10person and let them become genuinely interested in
- 6:12you.
- 6:13He comes back with a nasty comment saying,
- 6:15oh, John, that's not a trick.
- 6:17I said, exactly.
- 6:18Maybe you should try it.
- 6:20You might actually get people that want to
- 6:22get to know you instead of the false
- 6:24you.
- 6:24But a lot of people are from this
- 6:27false facade, either from their background or from
- 6:30other, let's say, bad mentors around them.
- 6:33It could even be fellow peers that teach
- 6:36them that some things are the right things
- 6:39when really they're the wrong things.
- 6:42But life is about learning, right?
- 6:44It's about learning and growing.
- 6:47And when we grow, we find out something
- 6:50very interesting.
- 6:50You know what that is?
- 6:52It's the fact that we can change, right?
- 6:57We can change whatever we want to change,
- 7:01OK?
- 7:02We can change who we want to change.
- 7:03But we have to be intentional about that
- 7:07change.
- 7:08It's not about drama, right?
- 7:09So drama consumes energy faster than effort.
- 7:12Emotional chaos is expensive.
- 7:15Why do we keep eliciting chaos?
- 7:17We don't do it intentionally.
- 7:20We do it because, well, we're confused.
- 7:22Because we don't understand what side of the
- 7:24coin is up.
- 7:25Is it heads or is it tails?
- 7:27I don't know.
- 7:28And so drama becomes the output of that
- 7:31because of our frustration.
- 7:35That's the real truth.
- 7:37It happens because of frustration.
- 7:38Because it's like that panic button that people
- 7:43press.
- 7:44Do they want to press that button?
- 7:46No, but they press it anyway.
- 7:50And they think that that's the way, but
- 7:55it's not the way.
- 7:56It's just something that a lot of people
- 7:59don't understand.
- 8:02And by not understanding it, I mean people
- 8:07don't get it.
- 8:09They go for the reason that they think
- 8:12is right, but it's not, OK?
- 8:17And they're doing this because they think they're
- 8:21going to make a big impact.
- 8:22But really what they make is more chaos,
- 8:26right?
- 8:29When we try to get somebody's attention with
- 8:33a false motive, we may get their attention
- 8:36short term.
- 8:37But then we're going to lose it as
- 8:38we move down.
- 8:40Number 13, guys, peace.
- 8:43See, peace is not passive, although most people
- 8:46think it is.
- 8:46It is strategic calmness.
- 8:52And it's a performance advantage.
- 8:55It doesn't take a lot of energy to
- 8:57be peaceful, to be calm.
- 9:00But some people feel that, well, it's not
- 9:03going to get anything done.
- 9:04It's not action getting.
- 9:08Sometimes peace, guys, will get more action done
- 9:12than any other thing you do.
- 9:14When people see that you can step back,
- 9:17it changes things.
- 9:22I think that's a very important thing.
- 9:27And we know why people connect for, you
- 9:32know, you think it's about peace and calmness.
- 9:34But when they see peace and calmness, they
- 9:36move away because these people are hardwired to
- 9:41be on aggressive behavior.
- 9:45They think that it's about control, that it's
- 9:48about, you know, I'm the one that's in
- 9:50charge.
- 9:51I don't want to give anybody else charge.
- 9:53That's a wrong kind of attitude.
- 9:55But yet I see dozens, more than dozens
- 9:57of people doing this every day.
- 10:01Okay, it's about that.
- 10:05And when you're calm, things change.
- 10:09Okay, they change.
- 10:14It's calm.
- 10:16It's very peaceful.
- 10:18And it's about us knowing that we have
- 10:22choices in our life.
- 10:23Not because they're shoved down our throat, but
- 10:27because we get the choice to choose.
- 10:32When we have choices, things change.
- 10:44That's important.
- 10:51I think sometimes people, you know, they look
- 10:54for the aggressiveness, okay?
- 10:58But the aggressiveness is not something that most
- 11:01people think about, right?
- 11:05They think about how life changes and how
- 11:11the world is always evolving.
- 11:16But is it a world that people want
- 11:19to be in?
- 11:20Or is it a world that I'm going
- 11:23to say changes?
- 11:26It changes with thoughts, okay?
- 11:29It changes with emotions, all right?
- 11:34But it changes with our choices that we
- 11:38choose to make.
- 11:39Number 14, you don't need permission to evolve.
- 11:42Growth does not require approval from your neighbor
- 11:44or even your friend or significant other.
- 11:47Growth requires you.
- 11:49Growth requires you, requires you.
- 11:55That's important.
- 11:57Okay?
- 12:00I think that's an important thing.
- 12:06Maybe it's about a choice that you don't
- 12:11want to make.
- 12:13And the reason you don't want to make
- 12:14is because other people are telling you you
- 12:16shouldn't make the choice.
- 12:17But don't you dare let someone else prevent
- 12:20you from evolving and becoming a better version
- 12:23of yourself, right?
- 12:28Don't allow that, okay?
- 12:32Don't allow that.
- 12:33Because when you allow that, things change.
- 12:41They change.
- 12:42Again, not because you're expecting them to change,
- 12:46but because of, well, the situation that's at
- 12:52heart.
- 12:53And I think a lot of people, they
- 12:55go one way because of, again, the moment.
- 13:01Because of emotions.
- 13:02Not because it's the right thing.
- 13:07So emotions are great, but sometimes we have
- 13:09to make a decision not based on emotions,
- 13:12right?
- 13:12We have to make a decision.
- 13:19You have to make a decision.
- 13:22And we have to make a decision, again,
- 13:24not for emotions only.
- 13:25Because when we do emotions only, we act
- 13:33without a real reason.
- 13:36We act on emotions, but they're not based
- 13:39on things that are logical.
- 13:40And then we're going to be unhappy.
- 13:43Number 15, guys, distance creates emotional clarity.
- 13:46Separation reveals the truth.
- 13:49We don't always want separation, but I can
- 13:52tell you separation allows us to think, right?
- 13:55It allows us to think about who we
- 13:57are, what we're doing.
- 14:01And that makes a big difference, guys.
- 14:04Because if we can just ponder for a
- 14:06moment, okay?
- 14:09If we can ponder for a moment and
- 14:10we can see what's happening and why things
- 14:12are happening, life can change.
- 14:20I'll tell you that most people gravitate towards
- 14:25something they don't want because of what the
- 14:28Jones are doing.
- 14:29Because of what the whatever you name it,
- 14:33right?
- 14:33The Wagners are doing.
- 14:35Common names.
- 14:38And they do it not wanting to do
- 14:40it.
- 14:41It's kind of a peer pressure.
- 14:43So peer pressure doesn't just exist as adolescence.
- 14:47Kids and teens, it happens in adults too.
- 14:50So as we get older, we need to
- 14:53pay attention to these things so they don't
- 14:55rob us of the pure love and victory
- 14:57our life can really have.
- 15:00Number 16, overexposure weakens your momentum.
- 15:04Not everything should be shared widely.
- 15:07And there are things that are private to
- 15:10you, right?
- 15:12There are things that are for your own
- 15:14moments.
- 15:15They're not to be billboarded.
- 15:17They're to be just expressed with those close
- 15:23in your inner circle.
- 15:24So guarding your inner circle is very, very
- 15:27important.
- 15:28Because if we just allow that circle to
- 15:30be open for everyone, those people could potentially
- 15:34harm us.
- 15:36We're usually very vulnerable to our inner circle.
- 15:39We don't want to do that to other
- 15:40people because we don't really trust those people.
- 15:42Number 17, private growth builds stronger foundations.
- 15:46And then the public validation visibility is not
- 15:50progress.
- 15:51It's hurt.
- 15:53It's discomfort.
- 15:54And this isn't the discomfort that I'd say
- 15:56you need to have to get successful.
- 15:57This is the discomfort that you get that
- 16:01marks you for life.
- 16:02The kind that can stop your dreams full
- 16:06force immediately.
- 16:09Number 18, people reveal their patterns and small
- 16:13behaviors.
- 16:14Consistency exposes character.
- 16:16It does.
- 16:18It's not a one-time thing.
- 16:20Number 19, those who gossip about others will
- 16:24eventually gossip about you.
- 16:27You might say, oh, gee, he's never going
- 16:28to gossip about me.
- 16:29We're friends.
- 16:29Don't bet on it.
- 16:32Patterns do not discriminate.
- 16:33You see, when that person runs out of
- 16:35stories to tell, well, you're a story and
- 16:38you're next in queue.
- 16:39So I guess your story is going to
- 16:41be told.
- 16:42The sad thing is it's going to probably
- 16:43break up the friendship and create some heartfelt
- 16:51feelings.
- 16:55But that's what gossipers do.
- 16:57Number 20, guys, energy is a form of
- 17:00currency.
- 17:01Where it goes determines return, right?
- 17:05Whatever we put our thoughts on, that's where
- 17:12the energy is going to go.
- 17:13That's where it's going to go.
- 17:17That's an important piece.
- 17:28That's important to understand.
- 17:33Very, very important to understand.
- 17:39And I'll tell you, that's a problem.
- 17:44Number 21, you teach people how to treat
- 17:48you through access boundaries.
- 17:52Define the behavior.
- 17:54Now, the thing is, you might think that
- 17:57creating these boundaries is rude, is egotistical.
- 18:01It's not.
- 18:02It's a way of protecting your own interests.
- 18:09Yeah, it's a way to protect your interest.
- 18:16You could do that.
- 18:22That's important.
- 18:30And I'll tell you that a lot of
- 18:32people that run into this challenge blame themselves.
- 18:39They don't understand that they got manipulated into
- 18:42this position.
- 18:45Now, I'm going to say something else I've
- 18:46said many times before.
- 18:47No one, no one, no one, no one,
- 18:49no one, no one, no one, no one.
- 18:50Oh, by the way, no one has the
- 18:53right to make you feel inferior about yourself
- 18:54or have you do anything you do not
- 18:56want to do without your permission.
- 18:59Number 22, everyone belongs in your inner circle.
- 19:04Proximity must be selective.
- 19:06That's the game.
- 19:07Everyone does not belong in your inner circle.
- 19:09But being kind doesn't mean everyone gets to
- 19:11be in your inner circle.
- 19:12That doesn't mean everyone gets access to you.
- 19:14Doesn't mean everybody gets your cell phone number.
- 19:19Number 23, mental bandwidth is more valuable than
- 19:22time.
- 19:23Attention is your real limit.
- 19:28Are you aware of these bottlenecks or do
- 19:31you wait until they hit you and say,
- 19:32oh, wow, I didn't see that coming.
- 19:37But if we could be proactive, then we
- 19:44could avoid this.
- 19:51We could be proactive.
- 19:54And that proactiveness is a way that we
- 19:59can safeguard ourselves.
- 20:03It's protection, right?
- 20:09People out there will be at different journeys
- 20:11of their life just like you are.
- 20:15I don't think that because somebody's there, you
- 20:20have to jump in.
- 20:21Because if you don't, well, you know, I'm
- 20:25younger than you and you should be able
- 20:27to do that, they'll say.
- 20:28That's not an excuse.
- 20:31That's a childhood manipulation trick.
- 20:36Number 24, being available to everyone creates instability.
- 20:42Selective availability creates control.
- 20:44It's not an ego thing.
- 20:47Number 25, emotional exhaustion often comes from misplaced
- 20:52trust.
- 20:53See, trust must be filtered, okay?
- 20:57It's not like a hose you turn on
- 20:59and you just let it go everywhere.
- 21:01No.
- 21:02Number 26, your environment either strengthens or weakens
- 21:05discipline.
- 21:07Surroundings influence consistency.
- 21:09We have to remember that.
- 21:10If we remember that, then we'll know something.
- 21:12Then we will also feel more calm.
- 21:15We'll feel more in control.
- 21:20When we're in chaos, we're like trying to
- 21:24figure out how to get off this moving
- 21:26merry-go-round, right?
- 21:29I think that's important to know.
- 21:32Number 27, protecting energy protects future opportunities.
- 21:37Drainage today limits tomorrow.
- 21:40So I'm saying to you, you need to
- 21:42be proactive, guys.
- 21:44Not just today, but every day.
- 21:48In fact, you start being proactive now for
- 21:49the future.
- 21:51We talked about it with fire drills, right?
- 21:53You don't want to plan for a fire
- 21:55when there is a fire.
- 21:56You want to be ready for the fire
- 21:58before the fire, and hopefully the fire never
- 21:59comes.
- 22:02Yeah.
- 22:04Number 28, people who drain you rarely notice
- 22:08the cost.
- 22:10They don't.
- 22:11Impact is often invisible to them.
- 22:14They feel you're just being kind.
- 22:17But are you in the beginning stages of
- 22:20burning out?
- 22:22I don't know.
- 22:22How often do you do it?
- 22:25Number 29, boundaries, ladies and gentlemen, are not
- 22:28rejection.
- 22:29Nope.
- 22:31They are structure.
- 22:33And structure creates a stability, okay?
- 22:36Your future depends on what you stop allowing.
- 22:42Protection determines progression, number 30.
- 22:46And I'm not going to tell you that
- 22:47any of these things are easy, because they're
- 22:51not.
- 22:52They're about you making a choice based on
- 22:56a few things.
- 22:57Do you make it only on feelings and
- 22:59emotions?
- 23:00No.
- 23:03You have to look at the situation logically,
- 23:05not just emotionally.
- 23:09I think that's an important piece that many
- 23:11people, I just don't think they get it.
- 23:16And when someone makes this decision, let's say
- 23:21logically, it might hurt emotionally, but it's going
- 23:27to protect you emotionally.
- 23:35That's a hard thing for a lot of
- 23:37people to grasp.
- 23:40They think that if I feel good, then
- 23:42it must be the right decision.
- 23:44Not necessarily.
- 23:45Sorry to tell you that, but that is
- 23:47the way it goes, right?
- 23:51And I think if we realize that our
- 23:53decisions have to come from that, it might
- 23:55be easier for us.
- 23:56It might be easier.
- 23:59Again, remember what I said about access.
- 24:03Limit your access.
- 24:05Give somebody a little access to you.
- 24:06See how they respond.
- 24:08See how they treat you.
- 24:10See what kind of access they give you
- 24:12to them.
- 24:15Make it a little test.
- 24:16If it's not good, cut back the access.
- 24:19If it's good, maybe you'll give a little
- 24:21more.
- 24:21That's totally up to you.
- 24:23You don't have to keep the access at
- 24:25the same level all the time, right?
- 24:30So, guys, in closing, here is the truth
- 24:34as I wrap this episode up here today.
- 24:38We went through a lot of important points.
- 24:42We talked about emotions.
- 24:44We talked about logical thinking.
- 24:47We talked about some boundaries.
- 24:50We talked about how people can use boundaries
- 24:54as a manipulation tactic.
- 24:57To get you to do what they want.
- 25:00Those aren't friends.
- 25:02Those are manipulators.
- 25:06And we don't always figure it out right
- 25:08away until we're either burnt out or hurt.
- 25:13Which is sad.
- 25:14Your energy is not just something you spend.
- 25:26Your energy takes time, doesn't it?
- 25:29It's something that you continue to build with
- 25:35your life.
- 25:38You build it with your life every day.
- 25:40When you're with great people that recharge you,
- 25:44you feel like you have tons of energy.
- 25:45When you're around people that drain your energy,
- 25:47you're like, oh my gosh, I don't want
- 25:48to hang around with those people anymore.
- 25:51Even just the thought of being with them
- 25:53just, like, drains me.
- 25:55That's a good sign that they're probably draining
- 25:58your energy.
- 26:03And some people will be like that, whether
- 26:05you like it or not.
- 26:07The important thing is to recognize it.
- 26:09And when you can recognize it, that's when
- 26:13you're starting to protect yourself.
- 26:22That's when you start to protect yourself.
- 26:28If you protect yourself now, then you won't
- 26:32be hurt later.
- 26:36But many people do things impulsively.
- 26:44And they do it impulsively because they're making
- 26:48the decision on what?
- 26:51They're making it on emotion.
- 26:55They're not looking at the logic, right?
- 27:01They're making it strictly on emotion.
- 27:04That's important to understand.
- 27:09Very important to understand that whole concept.
- 27:12And every person in your circle either strengthens
- 27:17that foundation or slowly withers it away.
- 27:21You do not need to be everywhere.
- 27:24You do not need to be available to
- 27:26everyone.
- 27:27You need to be protected enough to grow.
- 27:32Hey, guys, I'm John C.
