- 0:26Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:30We're on part four of the series, making a guilt-free drop. Here's Annie.
- 0:36We've honestly shared many times on this platform about the work Dan is doing
- 0:41and will continue to do in us through transformation.
- 0:44I'm truly grateful that I no longer have to navigate the season alone.
- 0:48My husband Ray is with me and I can see God's grace in his commitment to anchor
- 0:54our lives in marriage in Christ. despite the challenges we face.
- 0:57Honestly, I wish I had been more intentional about my faith journey much earlier.
- 1:02I believe my life would have looked very different.
- 1:06But even now, experiencing God's presence today, He is slowly revealing things
- 1:11about the past and how everything has been working out.
- 1:14As we continue walking this journey, I have to admit, Satan is very active intending
- 1:19me to respond in ways that aren't pleasing to God, especially when guilt tries to take over.
- 1:26The narratives and expectations surrounding womanhood today are so strong that
- 1:31they can influence who we perceive and respond to guilt.
- 1:34I used to think that my active involvement in church activities would keep me
- 1:39strong in navigating guilt.
- 1:41But I've realized that good works alone aren't enough.
- 1:44In fact, those efforts can truly deliver us from the temptation to respond wrongly to guilt.
- 1:51Here are practical ways I can see guilt trying to distract and derail me.
- 1:56And I've also observed many fellow wives journeying alongside me facing the same. 1.
- 2:02Guilt over perfection isn't from God.
- 2:05As we wives and moms, we often felt guilty for not being perfect.
- 2:09But remember, nobody is perfect.
- 2:12God's grace covers our flaws. Instead of beating yourself up over every mistake,
- 2:18learn to extend grace to yourself and rely on God's strength daily.
- 2:22Let's cling to the truth that God's grace is sufficient, and as mentioned in
- 2:272 Corinthians 12 verse 9.
- 2:292. Guilt about not meeting every expectation.
- 2:33Trying to meet everyone's expectations, whether from family,
- 2:37friends, or society, can lead to overwhelming guilt.
- 2:41Focus on doing your best in God's strength, not trying to please everyone.
- 2:46Your worth is rooted in Christ, not in your performance.
- 2:50Galatians 1 verse 10 reminds us, For am I now seeking the favor of men or of God?
- 2:57Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men,
- 3:02I would not be a servant of Christ.
- 3:053. Guilt from past mistakes as a mother or wife Past mistakes might haunt us,
- 3:11but God's forgiveness is complete.
- 3:13Instead of dwelling in regret, choose repentance, accept God's grace,
- 3:18and move forward with faith and humility.
- 3:21His mercy is new every morning. As Lamentations 3 verses 32-23 says,
- 3:27The Lord's loving kindness indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail.
- 3:33They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
- 3:374. Guilt when we feel we're not measuring up spiritually.
- 3:41Missing quiet time or routine spiritual practices doesn't mean we're distant from God's love.
- 3:47Our identity is in Christ, not in our spiritual checklist.
- 3:52Spiritual discipline is good, but if we're doing it just to check boxes,
- 3:56we're missing the heart of it.
- 3:58We can't do anything apart from God.
- 4:01As John 15 verse 5 reminds us, daily dependence on the Holy Spirit helps us
- 4:07grow even in our imperfect moment.
- 4:115. Guilt over not spending enough quality time with our kids or husband.
- 4:16While quality time matters, the pressure to always be perfect in every moment isn't from God.
- 4:23Focus on building meaningful connections, trusting that your ongoing love and
- 4:28presence matter more than perfect routines.
- 4:31Ephesians 5 verses 25 to 28 can serve as a reminder when Satan tries to deceive
- 4:37us about our roles as wives and moms.
- 4:416. Guilt about balancing everything, from work, ministry, home, and even kids.
- 4:48Juggling multiple roles can be overwhelming. But remember, God's grace is sufficient for each day.
- 4:55Prioritize your relationship with Him first, and He'll guide your steps with peace.
- 5:00Matthew 6 verse 33 says, But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
- 5:06and all these things will be added to you.
- 5:08When guilt strikes, let it be a signal to turn to God's grace instead of a reason
- 5:14to be harsh on ourselves.
- 5:17Daily communion with God and His Word helped me tremendously.
- 5:21When I remind myself of His message on that morning, I'm better equipped to
- 5:26handle everything the day brings.
- 5:28Let's keep in mind that Jesus' love and mercy are enough to transform our guilt
- 5:32into growth and healing. Embracing His grace daily is especially vital amid
- 5:38the busy, often overwhelming roles of wife and mother.
