- 0:00Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Kenny Wallace Show,
- 0:03brought to you by Jags, the leader in high performance
- 0:08aftermarket car parks. Remember to go to jagsjags.com
- 0:15where they have everything you need for your hot rod and
- 0:18they're making a big deal out of truck parts and Jeep parts right
- 0:23now. By the way, man, this is a nice
- 0:25hat. You ought to get yourself one.
- 0:27Check out their souvenir lines on jags.com.
- 0:31All right, that Michigan race is over.
- 0:34It was rained away, so they starved the race on Sunday and
- 0:38they had to finish it on this beautiful Monday.
- 0:41And I'm going to tell you what, usually when they drop the green
- 0:45flag on a Sunday race and they go, OK, let's restart it on a
- 0:48Monday. Usually it's a calmer race
- 0:51because everybody has the jitters out of them.
- 0:54However, this race had it all, man, they wrecked their butt
- 0:58off. How about Kyle Larson gets loose
- 1:02in front of everybody in the middle of turns 3 and 4, takes
- 1:05out a load of great race cars, takes out Joey Logano, Bubba
- 1:09Wallace, a lot of other ones. But Kyle Larson says, man, there
- 1:12was a lot of grip. I just got loose and I
- 1:15apologize. That was one wreck.
- 1:17So the reason we're going to do a Kenny Wallace show on this
- 1:21Michigan races, buddy. It had it all, and here's what
- 1:25it had had. Controversy, controversy.
- 1:31Herminator rotors and notes down.
- 1:35Let's let's talk about the winner of the race right now,
- 1:39Tyler Reddick. Tyler Reddick wins the race.
- 1:42He deserved the win. He was the fastest car.
- 1:46So no doubt that Tyler Reddick is the winner.
- 1:48But what we want to talk about is the controversy at hand.
- 1:52What is going on with NASCAR right now?
- 1:55Two to go, 4 to go. Somebody barely gets in the wall
- 1:59caution. They, they, they throw that
- 2:02caution boy, they just caution flag.
- 2:04Oh, look, look, somebody touches the wall caution.
- 2:09I've always believed that late in a race, society hits the
- 2:12wall. There's got to be debris on the
- 2:14racetrack. Now, you might not agree with
- 2:18this, but listen, here are the herminators.
- 2:22Again, this is for the people that don't know me very well.
- 2:26My name is Kenny Wallace and I raced in 905 NASCAR races and
- 2:34here's the way it works. NASCAR employs what they call
- 2:37spotters. So they have spotters around the
- 2:40racetrack. And if they think that when
- 2:45Martin Truex late in this race, OK, four to go, Martin Truex
- 2:50gets loose running about fourth or fifth respond right here
- 2:53since once again, you know it all, Wallace is snarky again.
- 2:59So Truex gets loose, chases it and hits the wall pretty hard
- 3:04because they play the in car camera and you can see he hits
- 3:07it really hard. Well, Tyler Reddick's going to
- 3:10win again. Remember Tyler Reddick?
- 3:12His owner is Denny Hamlin and the great Michael Jordan, the
- 3:16greatest basketball player of all time.
- 3:19If you don't think he's the greatest, respond right here,
- 3:23LeBron. LeBron James is the greatest.
- 3:27No, he's not. Michael Jordan is.
- 3:29Listen, the reason LeBron plays is because of Michael Jordan.
- 3:33So Michael Jordan owns Tyler Reddick's race car, had had
- 3:38McDonald's on it, it looked good, showed up good today's but
- 3:41but Tyler Reddick wins at Talladega about 3 months ago
- 3:46with Michael Jordan there, right?
- 3:48Michael Jordan was at the race at Talladega.
- 3:50Well, Michael Jordan was at the race yesterday on Sunday, but it
- 3:55rains out so he goes home. Michael, he might have had
- 4:00something to do today, so we can't rough him up too bad.
- 4:03Michael Jordan might have had something to do on this Monday.
- 4:07He goes home and his car wins today.
- 4:11So it would have been good because that's a different
- 4:14sponsor. You know, when Tyler Reddick won
- 4:17the race at Talladega, it had the Air Jordan Schwartz on it.
- 4:20Michael's, you know, Nike, they sponsored it, but this time it
- 4:24was McDonald's. So it would have been good to
- 4:26see Michael Jordan in Victor Lane.
- 4:28But you know, once again, the quick caution is that is NASCAR
- 4:36guilty of throwing the caution flag too quick?
- 4:40Yes, yes, they are. But the spotters that I told you
- 4:45about, NASCAR employs these spotters.
- 4:47Their job is to go breaker 19. I see debris on the racetrack.
- 4:53That's my mouse, by the way. So these spotters job are to
- 4:59say, OK, you know, Martin Trux hits the wall, there's debris
- 5:06and that debris could be dangerous.
- 5:09It could flatten other people's tires.
- 5:11So listen, I think they do throw the caution flag a little fast.
- 5:17I think where there could have been debris is in no man's land
- 5:21anyway. It's up there 3 feet from the
- 5:23wall. I don't know if there was debris
- 5:27or not. That is a conversation right
- 5:28here for all of you respond right here in this timeline.
- 5:32Did you see debris when Martin trucks hit that wall?
- 5:36I just say yes, I think NASCAR gets a little caution flag happy
- 5:40because there's an old saying there's nothing better in a
- 5:43NASCAR race than a caution flag to wad them all up for them to
- 5:47try to wreck again because that, my friends, is called a show.
- 5:53Oh Lord, OK, but anyway, it ends up not mattering.
- 6:01Of course it does matter because it causes another wreck.
- 6:05They go green flag they and and William Byron comes off.
- 6:09So let's talk about what the caution did do the caution flag
- 6:14did make a more exciting finish #2 it, it made William Byron
- 6:20when they went green after the caution and made Byron get
- 6:23loose, which was his fault. That was all Williams fault, not
- 6:26the caution flag. But he hit the wall and in
- 6:29return that took out Ross Chastain.
- 6:34I want to talk about that in a minute.
- 6:36Ross Chastain spins out because of Byron getting in the wall.
- 6:40Chain reaction. And now here we go again, Ross
- 6:43Chastain stuck in the grass with that damn race car.
- 6:50I'm going to go ahead and say it right now, then I'll go back.
- 6:53Here's my opinion. NASCAR needs to make a new rule.
- 6:57If you get stuck in the grass with this new turtle shell
- 7:01bottom car and the pace car comes around and laps you, you
- 7:04get your lap back, respond right here.
- 7:07That is not their fault. That's NASCAR's fault.
- 7:11They built a race car that if you get a flat tower, you can't
- 7:15leave because the car's here. You get a flat tower goes here
- 7:20and and the car's dragging the grass.
- 7:22The car's dragging and it can't even go.
- 7:25So that, listen, that's the one. I'm sure there's more, but
- 7:30that's one design that NASCAR didn't see.
- 7:32They got to adjust that rule. So I know NASCAR is watching
- 7:36this right now. Listen, I'm a lover.
- 7:39I'm not a complainer. We're just, listen, we love this
- 7:41sport. We talk about what we see.
- 7:44A man should be able to spin out and have a flat tire.
- 7:47I'm going to say, I'm going to say a man or a lady ought to be
- 7:51able to spin out in the grass and then they cut the grass and
- 7:55it's not wet and you should be able to take off.
- 7:58You cannot take off because this car drags ass and it stuck it.
- 8:03You can even see when you can see Ross Chastain's shield.
- 8:08It's kind of barely like this. And when they went to the in car
- 8:11camera, he went because he knew it.
- 8:14He couldn't get back around and get a good finish because he
- 8:17knew he was stuck. So he's like you could see his
- 8:20face through through his tinted shield.
- 8:23He's like God. So he's like push me, push me.
- 8:27So anyway, let's go through it real quick.
- 8:32I, I addressed a quick caution flag.
- 8:34Yes, I think they're quick on it.
- 8:36OK, Michael Jordan should have stayed the caution flag was all
- 8:45for Naughty because Reddick wins the race anyway.
- 8:49See, this whole this whole caution towards the end of the
- 8:52race, you know, last week at Richmond when Stenhouse and
- 8:57Priest got together and caused a real caution.
- 8:59I mean, they wrecked their asses off.
- 9:01That was a real caution. And then that caused all the
- 9:04drama of the three of Austin Dillon, you know, getting
- 9:08roughed up at the end of the race and not being able to
- 9:10advance into the playoffs. So that's where all this comes
- 9:14from. It's like, you know, why all
- 9:16these cautions at the end? Well, and it's weird too, right?
- 9:19Because they'll be running 30 laps and everybody, everybody
- 9:22strung out. Everybody strung out.
- 9:26It's like no big deal. All of a sudden some some guy
- 9:28wrecks. Like why did you wreck with four
- 9:30laps to go? Why?
- 9:32That man had a straightaway lead.
- 9:34Let him win the race. Respond right here.
- 9:38Damn, that hat looks good. Don't wear that thing very much.
- 9:42I, I, I save these hats for the race tracks.
- 9:44Get yourself one, jigs.com. Get yourself for sure, jigs.com.
- 9:50They probably have some of my die casts left too.
- 9:53That was my super late model. OK, quick cautions.
- 9:58Stuck in the grass, debris. Car flipping.
- 10:05Car flipping. All right, Randy, Lajoie, you
- 10:11know, they made a big deal out about it, and that's why I'm
- 10:13reporting on it. Look, the Hermitian reports on
- 10:16what he sees. OK, here's what I saw.
- 10:19I saw that Lajoie does it himself.
- 10:26I'll listen. I love him.
- 10:28I love him. He's my buddy.
- 10:29But they had a pissing match going on there, as you saw on
- 10:32TV. He run in the back of whoever
- 10:36the hell that was. I got brain fade.
- 10:39Tell me right now. So then they come around another
- 10:41lap. So what happens?
- 10:43They come off at two and and Corey gets this big run.
- 10:46Bam Smith, instead of passing him, hits him hard.
- 10:50OK, so then we come around another lap.
- 10:52Now, now, now he's got this big run and he barely, he barely
- 10:58nips him. He tried to side draft.
- 11:00So he did this on his own. Well, but what he didn't do,
- 11:06it's like when I say a man this, this is what Sterling Marlin
- 11:10used to say. A man ought to be able to spin
- 11:12out every once in a while. He ain't perfect.
- 11:15Well, a man ought to be able to just spin out.
- 11:18Well, when, when he went to get back the car in front of him, he
- 11:22he, oh, I knew who it was. It was the 10 car.
- 11:25Noah Graxson. Thank you.
- 11:27You can also include yourself in here.
- 11:29But it was Noah Graxson. So Corey Lajoie, Noah Graxson,
- 11:33they're in this little pissing match.
- 11:34So he comes back, Corey is going to side draft and he misjudged
- 11:39and and Corey took his right front and ran in to Noah Graxson
- 11:44and he starts to spin and his car flips up, starts flipping
- 11:48and everybody screams they shouldn't have done that.
- 11:51That's NASCAR's fault. We hate NASCAR.
- 11:54That shouldn't have happened. People love just being mean to
- 11:58NASCAR. The car flips and now let's
- 12:01blame it on NASCAR. Don't blame it on Corey ass
- 12:05packing. You know Noah.
- 12:07So Corey started it on his own. But yes, you're right.
- 12:12The car should have never flipped.
- 12:14The reason the car is flipping by the way, NASCAR, I was going
- 12:19to use it. NASCAR sent me a thank you card.
- 12:23NASCAR Foundation. I did the charity ride and thank
- 12:27you, Nicole. They sent me a nice little thank
- 12:29you, sent me a nice little thank you and anyway, I was going to
- 12:35use this. I'm going to use this as a car.
- 12:37So the bottom of these new cup cars look like this.
- 12:40I call them turtle shells because a turtle has a smooth
- 12:44bottom. Well, when Corey went like this,
- 12:47these cars are smooth, so it's a maximum air, so it creates a
- 12:51lift. See, the roof flaps worked
- 12:54better on the old car because the old car had a messy bottom.
- 12:58Air could bleed through. Now with this turtle shell, when
- 13:02it starts to lift up, you get air.
- 13:04Here, the roof flaps kind of pulled it over a little bit.
- 13:08You know, I'm just so listen, respond right here if I don't
- 13:15know what I'm talking about. Everybody says that I do know
- 13:18what I'm talking about. But that turtle shell bottom,
- 13:21once you lift it, you see it on the Indycars, you see it on the
- 13:25Indycars, that smooth surface that makes cars more
- 13:28aerodynamically efficient. But, but it's those smooth
- 13:32bottoms are meant not the cars. It's the smooth bottoms are not
- 13:36meant to be tilted up because then then they get maximum lift
- 13:41like a parachute. So anyway, I wanted to address
- 13:44that and I think that's it. Everybody this Monday race had
- 13:48it all. And listen, I want to say this.
- 13:51That was a legit rain out. That was scary weather yesterday
- 13:55there in Michigan. You're just going to have this.
- 13:58But look, if it was a dirt race, you'd have never even thought
- 14:01about raining. The beauty of asphalt is you can
- 14:05drive a track and keep going. So that race in Michigan
- 14:08yesterday, that was a that was an ugly scene.
- 14:11It was very dark and they just got flat rained out.
- 14:15But buddy, a day later it was worth it.
- 14:17That was some exciting racing. You can't help that you know
- 14:26Martin Truex hits the wall. He he does hit the wall.
- 14:30Was there debris respond right here.
- 14:33If there was debris, where is it?
- 14:35I didn't see it, but this this is about breaking the race down.
- 14:42But was there debris? Respond right here.
- 14:44I say they are. I'm going to end like this.
- 14:47I say NASCAR is a little quick to the caution flag and in their
- 14:53defense, they want to see a show.
- 14:55But but here's the deal. They got to be careful throwing
- 15:00this caution flag. But that will hold up in court.
- 15:05NASCAR throwing the caution flag will hold up in court because
- 15:12Martin Trucks did pound the wall and there was dust and I did see
- 15:16a little piece of something black.
- 15:19There's gambling is legal now. Gambling is legal.
- 15:24If you go back to the Kenny conversation with Tony Stewart
- 15:28two years ago, Tony Stewart said NASCAR's got to be careful with
- 15:32fake cautions because it it changes the outcome.
- 15:37So in NASCAR's defense, I don't think they're going to be
- 15:40throwing any more fake caution flags.
- 15:43Respond right here. However, this will hold up in
- 15:47court because somebody did pound the wall.
- 15:50Shit was flying. And I saw a little something
- 15:53black. I'm an attorney.
- 15:57All right, everybody listen. We are in podcast form.
- 16:02We're Spotify and iTunes. You can listen to this on the
- 16:06way to work, and it's Monday, so listen to this on the way home
- 16:10until the next Kenny Wallace show.
- 16:12We have some Kenny conversations coming up.
- 16:15Yeah, we got a good one. Look through my roll right here.
- 16:21We got one of my local racing nemesis, Rick Kenoyer.
- 16:24Rick's won eight races this year.
- 16:26Shout out to the locals. Why does Rick Kenoyer want to
- 16:30outrun me so bad? His answer is heartfelt.
- 16:33So Stroll here got a lot of good stuff on Bloomer.
- 16:38So, so sorry about Bloomer losing his life.
- 16:42That's another story. Some stuff's going to be coming
- 16:44out on Bloomer. That's a little innuendo.
- 16:47There's going to be some stuff coming out on Bloomer.
- 16:49Don't know when everybody knows about it.
- 16:52Everybody knows. Quit acting like you don't know.
- 16:55The complete racing community knows.
- 16:57Was probably going to come out with Scott Bloomquist.
- 17:01All right, that's it. Everybody got more.
- 17:05No, got Mark to Kid Martin coming up tomorrow.
- 17:08It's called Catching Up with Mark Martin.
- 17:11This will be our third installment of Catching Up with
- 17:15the Great Race Car Drivers. All right, that's the report
- 17:18from Michigan. Tell me about that caution flag.
- 17:22Should they have thrown the caution flag?
- 17:24Respond right here.
