- 0:18Dan Schulz: I.
- 0:19Jennifer Davis: Well tonight, Thursday, April 23rd from five 30 to seven 30, the Redmond Community Center at Mary Moore Village is hosting a free Earth Day movie night for families.
- 0:32Jennifer Davis: They're setting up a casual all ages movie with popcorn, so it's easy to show up and hang out.
- 0:39Jennifer Davis: Kids need to be with an adult, but otherwise, there's nothing complicated about it.
- 0:44Jennifer Davis: If you're looking for something simple to do tonight, that doesn't cost anything.
- 0:48Jennifer Davis: This is about as easy as it gets.
- 0:56Dan Schulz: Tomorrow, April 24th from six to 8:00 PM Soul Food, coffee House is having live music with a band called Paper Moon.

- 1:36Jennifer Davis: If you've been meaning to see something at Second Story, this is your window.
- 1:42Dan Schulz: Friday, April 24th at 7:00 PM at Saama Sellers, they are hosting a standup comedy night with, I'm gonna butcher your name, Jackie, and I don't mean it 'cause I was looking you up online, Jackie.

- 2:05Dan Schulz: I told you I was looking up Jackie.
- 2:07Dan Schulz: She is one of the comedians who's open for Saturday Night Lives.
- 2:10Dan Schulz: Tim Meadows.
- 2:11Dan Schulz: He handpicked her for a bunch of his shows.
- 2:14Dan Schulz: She seems really amazing and Ricky seems really cool too.
- 2:18Dan Schulz: I haven't been able to research him a lot.
- 2:19Dan Schulz: But I know that he started because I think Amazon was downsizing, and he says, I'm taking my, uh, severance package and I'm getting into comedy and I think he's really a, a really strong up and comer.
- 2:31Jennifer Davis: Pretty cool.
- 2:32Dan Schulz: So if you want something different than the usual dinner plans, this is a really solid switch up.
- 2:38Jennifer Davis: Saturday, April 25th from nine to 11, the Exotics car show is back at Redmond Town Center with a lineup of rare and high-end cars.
- 2:49Jennifer Davis: This is one of those things where you can just wander through, check out cars you'll probably never own, and still have a good time.
- 2:57Jennifer Davis: It's free.
- 2:58Jennifer Davis: Super casual and works whether you're into cars or just want something to do Saturday morning,
- 3:05Dan Schulz: Also at the Redmond Town Center.
- 3:08Dan Schulz: Brick and mortar books is celebrating independent bookstore day with special promos and their blind date with a book set up.
- 3:15Dan Schulz: Basically, you pick a wrapped book based on a few clues, And then you see what you end up with.
- 3:20Dan Schulz: They also have exclusive merch and other small surprises throughout the day if you've been meaning to stop in there.
- 3:26Dan Schulz: Anyway, this is a really good excuse and I think everyone should go to brick and mortar books because it is a fantastic bookstore.
- 3:34Jennifer Davis: Saturday, April 25th, from 11 to 1230 at the Redmond Library, kids can learn how flowers attract pollinators.
- 3:43Jennifer Davis: With the master gardeners, each kid gets a take home kit.
- 3:47Jennifer Davis: So it's not just sitting and listening is designed for ages five to 12, and you don't need to register.
- 3:54Jennifer Davis: But supplies are limited for the first 25 kids, If your kids like hands-on stuff, this one's worth getting there on time for.
- 4:05Dan Schulz: So let's get into some bicycle bling, some bicycle news.
- 4:09Dan Schulz: So here's something kind of cool.
- 4:11Dan Schulz: Redmond is leaning even harder into its whole bicycle capital thing.
- 4:15Dan Schulz: This spring, there's been a big push to improve bike lanes, add better connections between trails and make it easier to actually ride between neighborhoods without dealing with sketchy gaps.
- 4:26Dan Schulz: You'll probably start noticing more riders out now that the weather's turning too.
- 4:31Dan Schulz: So if you've been thinking about dusting off your bike, am I kidding?
- 4:34Dan Schulz: Everyone in Redmond is already dusted off their bike.
- 4:37Dan Schulz: They're ready and raring to go, but just in case, dust off that seat, get out on the trail.
- 4:43Dan Schulz: This is your sign nine.
- 4:45Jennifer Davis: Okay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.
- 4:55Jennifer Davis: So Dan, I've got one for you.
- 4:59Jennifer Davis: did Redmond incorporate as a city in 1912?
- 5:03Jennifer Davis: Was it A, to build a school, B to tax, saloons to build a water system, C to get a railroad stop, or D to keep Seattle from annexing them and your time starts now.
- 5:21Dan Schulz: Okay.
- 5:21Dan Schulz: Okay.
- 5:22Dan Schulz: Think, think, think.
- 5:23Dan Schulz: Again.
- 5:23Dan Schulz: This is something I should know.
- 5:25Dan Schulz: I probably did know, and the fact that I probably did know it at one time means I can probably cut out a couple of them.
- 5:33Dan Schulz: Like the tax, the saloons to build a water system.
- 5:38Dan Schulz: That seems like something I would remember.
- 5:40Dan Schulz: So that is definitely not a, they're not gonna go tax the bar.
- 5:43Dan Schulz: They, they incorporated so they could, uh, get money from bars.
- 5:47Dan Schulz: So they could get a water system.
- 5:48Dan Schulz: No.
- 5:50Dan Schulz: it's, it's it's obviously d to keep Seattle from annexing them.
- 5:54Dan Schulz: You have to understand, Jennifer, in 1912, the people in Redmond, they were suspicious.
- 6:01Jennifer Davis: You think so?
- 6:02Dan Schulz: Uhuh.
- 6:02Dan Schulz: My final answer is,
- 6:05Jennifer Davis: D to keep Seattle for Amanda annexing them.
- 6:08Dan Schulz: yes, yes, 100% I am positive.
- 6:12Jennifer Davis: Well, Dan, eh.
- 6:14Jennifer Davis: Sorry, you're wrong again.
- 6:17Jennifer Davis: You are totally wrong because the answer is B to tax the saloons to build a water system.
- 6:25Dan Schulz: You gotta be kidding me.
- 6:26Jennifer Davis: Most of Redmond's buildings were wooden and there was no public water system.
- 6:31Jennifer Davis: So fires kept wiping out entire blocks.
- 6:34Jennifer Davis: Residents incorporated so they could tax the thriving saloons and finally build a proper water system.
- 6:41Jennifer Davis: Fire basically forced the city into existence also.
- 6:45Jennifer Davis: Those saloons must have been doing pretty well to build an entire water system to put out the fires.
- 7:00Dan Schulz: I am taking over the rumor mill this weekend.
- 7:03Dan Schulz: As you know, I don't know who your gossip birds are and I don't have any gossip birds, but I actually did hear a legit rumor.
- 7:13Dan Schulz: Me, I heard it, I had my ears open.
- 7:16Dan Schulz: Rumor has it that a seafood boil restaurant with robot servers.
- 7:22Jennifer Davis: Robots.
- 7:24Dan Schulz: robot servers is looking for space near the light rail station.
- 7:28Dan Schulz: The concept's been blowing up in Seattle with multiple new spots opening this year, and now it sounds like the east side might be next.
- 7:35Dan Schulz: We don't know which brand it is.
- 7:38Dan Schulz: We don't know how far along things are.
- 7:40Dan Schulz: I wanna know though, would you actually go somewhere where a robot brings you your seafood?
- 7:45Dan Schulz: You don't have to answer, Jennifer.
- 7:46Dan Schulz: You'd go anywhere.
- 7:47Dan Schulz: A robot does anything for you, but you listening.
