- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to empower your soul with Nicole, and today we are going to talk all about triggers.
- 0:06Speaker 1: That's right.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Spirit has been triggering me left and right, so now is the time to record this.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Well, it's fresh in my mind and spirit obviously needs me to get this message out to people.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So when I talk about triggers, I am not talking about the huge traumatic events that should be addressed by professional therapists, right, like like.
- 0:28Speaker 1: If you do like you, maybe you'll get a little nugget or two here, but I want to more.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So talk about the more subtle triggers that happen on your day to day life and how spirit uses those to help you become your best self, because that's what.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That's what spirit does.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Spirit will purposely put things in your path, as we learned in the spirit guide episode, to trigger you to grow.
- 0:54Speaker 1: They point out and use triggers to identify where things are very uncomfortable for you, where things are difficult for you, where maybe you should be doing things that you're not and avoiding things that you shouldn't be and you're dragging your feet, and spirit will use triggers to get you moving.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And the reason why they're highlighting in my head right now they will use these triggers to get you moving is because when these happen, they stir up very intense emotional reactions, right.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And those intense emotional reactions create adrenaline in your system and that adrenaline brings you that fight or flight mode and then it forces you to do something about it.
- 1:35Speaker 1: So it, or it forces you to think at least about doing something about it, right?
- 1:39Speaker 1: A lot of us get stuck in the limbo of I'm going to avoid the topic.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm having a middle of the night panic attack.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm going to avoid this.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'm just going to la da da stroll on my phone until this feeling of panic goes away and then I'll just ignore it and never address it again, like that's what I'm talking about when I'm talking about these triggers, these panic attacks.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But what's so interesting is, if you ignore it, spirit will just continue to trigger you over and over again until you do it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So pay attention to those intense emotional reactions you have.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You're feeling them for a reason.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Don't avoid them, because they're just going to keep coming back.
- 2:16Speaker 1: So, again, that adrenaline is meant to help you move towards resolution or action that's going to help you reduce this feeling of intense emotion in the future.
- 2:27Speaker 1: A little bit of science, just a little.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It's not my, it's not my forte.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm more of a math girl, so the signs, obviously, that you've been triggered besides these panic attacks are just like overreacting.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So do you have, I don't know, in my mind this is going to be the most ridiculous example, but we're going to go with it.
- 2:47Speaker 1: In my mind is and this doesn't even exist anymore.
- 2:51Speaker 1: That's how this is, how wild spirit is.
- 2:53Speaker 1: This is the example they give me in my head.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You go to a video store Do those even exist anymore?
- 2:57Speaker 1: No, definitely not.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You go to a video store and someone took out the movie you wanted to see and there's no other option.
- 3:02Speaker 1: You go to a video store and someone took out the movie you wanted to see and there's no other option.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So you have a fit about it, right, like like big I don't know why they gave me that example Big overreactions emotionally that are way bigger than the problem itself.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You could also have some physical signs, like tension.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Maybe you feel it in your shoulders, maybe you feel your heart racing Like you feel like you need to like move again.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You're feeling that fight or flight, feeling I need to get out of here, that kind of thing.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But really these are just strong emotions that pop up that you may just receive or interpret different ways in your body and show it might show up different ways in your body as well, but what these actually are are just signs of deeper issues or unresolved emotions, feelings, actions that you need to resolve.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And, let's be honest, like life shouldn't be this hard, we shouldn't have to be bothered by triggers all the time and like constantly, throughout every single day.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But here I am constantly triggered, all the time out, every single day.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But here I am constantly triggered all the time.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But it's important because the triggers highlight where I need healing or I need personal growth, and the more that I ignore them, the more triggers I have that just build up and up and up and then it just comes constantly throughout the day, right?
- 4:19Speaker 1: So if you can use these triggers to help recognize old patterns that no longer serve you, old ideas, beliefs, behaviors that no longer serve you, then that's the goal of this right, because spirit guides, our spiritual team, uses these triggers to signal what needs attention.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So let's talk about some examples of triggers that I've had lately, and I'll probably give some more in a little bit.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So, obviously, a few weeks ago I went and I recorded three of these podcast episodes with a muted mic, right, like I think normally I would have gone off the deep end.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I want to go upload these onto my podcast.
- 5:08Speaker 1: My podcast software program, application, whatever and it was like cannot process.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And I was like, what do you mean?
- 5:15Speaker 1: You cannot process?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Is this a technical?
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'm a technical savvy person.
- 5:18Speaker 1: No, you should be able to process, as I and I double clicked and listen to the episode.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And it's just me talking, no audio.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It was like two hours of my life trying to like I even like change the background, made it look good.
- 5:33Speaker 1: No, no, no, I just got to go back to the basics, right, spirit is, and I like prepared each episode and I wrote down what I was going to say.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But I then recorded all on a muted mic, right, so I could have flipped out about it and I think a prior self would have.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But for some reason I kind of like laughed to myself and I'm like, of course, but it was funny to me that I didn't have this huge emotional reaction to it, because to me it was just the signal from spirit that I'm doing something wrong, like it's not that I like it's not that I pressed the mute button by accident.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I did that wrong too, but it was more like this isn't how we want you to approach the podcast.
- 6:31Speaker 1: We don't want you to prepare, we don't want you to write up a script, we want you to just get on like ad lib it and just go with the flow.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Because that's part of my lesson in creating this podcast is not being so structured, not being so perfect, not being showing up to try to do the perfection thing and edit the crap and edit the ums out of this.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You're going to hear me say like a million times and hopefully, now that I've said that, I will try to let that go but I needed to release perfectionism, and that was the lesson in having the muted microphone.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So, again, I took the problem of the muted microphone, which probably should have triggered me, but I was able to regulate that emotion, learn the lesson and move on, and I think that's exactly how we overcome a lot of the triggers that we have today.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Right and, by the way, yes, I did rerecord those.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yes, you've already listened to those rerecorded episodes, so you know I'm cool now I'm net zero with that, so I'm okay with that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So how to overcome some of these triggers, then, is number one recognizing when you are triggered.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest thing.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I think subconsciously we know, but sometimes, like in our conscious brain, we worry and again that fight or flight adrenaline takes over and there's just something else about it.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So you might perceive, but a lot of the times it's just the emotional responses, the trigger, that you need to pay attention to.
- 7:52Speaker 1: So instead of acting on it right away, right, you need to actually just recognize where am I tensing?
- 7:59Speaker 1: Where am I overreacting?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Where is my heart racing?
- 8:02Speaker 1: What's causing it?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Where do I just feel uncomfortable in my day-to-day life where things are popping up, and pausing and reflecting on those and creating space for those moments so that you don't react on them.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And I think that step number two is just remembering that the trigger is just information, it's data, and I have to constantly put my data hat on right, like triggers are data, it's information.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Emotions are data, information.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It does not mean you have to respond right away or have that fight or flight response.
- 8:41Speaker 1: That's just your bodily reaction to stress.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Instead, don't react but pause, breathe.
- 8:56Speaker 1: React but pause, breathe, take the time you need to calm down from that feeling and once you're calm, then you take time to reflect on that trigger and you really think it through from every single angle that you can.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Like.
- 9:06Speaker 1: How did you feel?
- 9:07Speaker 1: How did that person feel that maybe triggered you?
- 9:10Speaker 1: What were the circumstances around?
- 9:12Speaker 1: What was going on?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Like, are there other things in play that maybe you're not paying attention to?
- 9:16Speaker 1: But reflect on the whole situation from every angle that you can and ask yourself why is this triggering me?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Why is this triggering me?
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then what you can do if you're struggling to understand what the lesson is For those of you that are spiritually tapped in.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You can connect with your guides.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You can or you know even everybody else like you can have a meditation where you are setting the intention to ask for clarity on what the lesson is and how to overcome it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And I think this is the sticky part, right, you're not always going to get an answer, and that's okay.
- 9:53Speaker 1: So you kind of have to go with your gut and trust what your gut is thinking, perceiving, feeling what the root cause is.
- 9:59Speaker 1: And I bet you you know.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I bet you you know, even if it's uncomfortable to identify it or you're uncomfortable with what the root cause is that's driving that trigger, like you know what that is.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But then you also need to work for towards how do you overcome that right?
- 10:14Speaker 1: So what are some steps you want to take to say, okay, so the next time it happens I'm going to do this instead.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Or hey, that's a really big issue.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Maybe I should do some research or read a book, do some help, self help, maybe do some journaling to overcome it right, because the key is that you want it to not trigger you anymore.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You want to move past it, learn your lesson so that you make space for other lessons that make you continuously the best person that you can be, over and over again.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So sit with the energy of that trigger, sit with the energy of that root cause, sit with journal it, meditate, like really lean into the feeling of it and understand why.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Maybe it's as simple as I always thought I wasn't good enough, but no, actually I am good enough.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You know, maybe it's um, this feeling I know for a lot of us, like maybe I have this financial, like heart, uh, heart palpitations every time I see a bill come in the door right, and then realizing like no, I have plenty of money in the bank to pay for this.
- 11:17Speaker 1: This is just me from 20 years ago, when I was a poor college student and I couldn't pay any bills and I continuously went into overdraft fees.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Right, like, sit with it and recognize what's yours now in the present moment versus what are leftover triggers for things that aren't real anymore.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And rewriting that narrative right.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So really lean into it, look at it from every angle, take different ideas to help you move past, overcome it.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Go with your gut, go trust your instincts on what you think is the best way to kind of move through that emotion.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Talk to a professional if you need to, but don't let it show up and not do anything about it.
- 11:55Speaker 1: What's the point?
- 11:56Speaker 1: What's the point?
- 11:57Speaker 1: So, work through it, like do the work, feel the feels, like like literally feel the feels, like like embrace and embody that trauma, that trigger that is moving through you.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And most of the time when you feel it fully and you don't push it away, that's when a lot of the healing happens and you know what you need to do and how to fix it.
- 12:17Speaker 1: So if you're stuck, just let it all in, let the floodgates open, cry, let the emotions out and take it from there.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But really, you know, as you move through this and as you start reflecting, making changes, trying different things, you might find that next time it happens you respond very differently.
- 12:41Speaker 1: So the whole point of this is when the trigger comes up.
- 12:45Speaker 1: If you make a new, more conscious, more present action or reaction as a result of what's coming up, then you know you've moved through it.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So if you receive the same trigger again and it doesn't bother you check you're done.
- 12:58Speaker 1: That's like spiritual test Are you really done it, did you really do the work?
- 13:03Speaker 1: And also like it's a victory moment, right?
- 13:08Speaker 1: So spirit sends you the same triggers again, not to test you on it as a little bit of a test, but also to prove to yourself that it's not an issue anymore and that you can move past it.
- 13:17Speaker 1: So, case in point, I've had a lot lately where spirit has brought it up to show how far I've come in resolving my triggers.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So, for example, I had a very, very lovely client.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I honestly loved spending the time with her, but I she came in and she follows me on the socials.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Hey, girl, you know who you are.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I could not pull through her parents.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I couldn't do it Like I could feel them there, I, I, but I like.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Everything I said for evidence was no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:49Speaker 1: This hasn't happened to me since the very start of my spiritual career, right when I was just learning mediumship, and I could feel her parents there and I'm like, I can feel them.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And here's the evidence.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And it was no, no, no, no, no, like.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Do you know what that does to a medium?
- 14:05Speaker 1: Do you have any idea?
- 14:06Speaker 1: It is like the worst case scenario.
- 14:09Speaker 1: The worst case scenario to get into a reading, feel like everything is so clear and nothing can be taken.
- 14:16Speaker 1: This is the moment when most mediums quit.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Right, it almost happened to me at the beginning of my career when I first time it happened, I almost quit and I said I'm done with this.
- 14:26Speaker 1: This is ridiculous.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I don't.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I put all this work in and they couldn't take anything.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm a failure, I'm miserable, right, but instead, what happened with this amazing client is I was honest with them and I was like this is really weird.
- 14:44Speaker 1: This never happens to me, but something is up with this connection and I cannot.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I cannot do this for you, like.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So I, I gave her a refund.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I said I'm going to give you your money back, but she's a lovely woman.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And I said maybe the reason is that we don't like I'm not supposed to be reading for you today, so we ended up talking about other things, right?
- 14:59Speaker 1: She's?
- 14:59Speaker 1: She's a spiritual woman, she's going through her own lessons and education and had a ton of questions for me about, you know, mediumship and energy and how it works and all this, all these things.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So we ended up using the rest of the time just chatting with things, but obviously mediumship was not on the plate.
- 15:17Speaker 1: That's not what I was supposed to cover that day.
- 15:18Speaker 1: So normally I would go and cry in the corner, right?
- 15:26Speaker 1: My worst case scenario is they can't take it and I have to give a refund because I want to do my job well for my clients.
- 15:32Speaker 1: That's why I do this.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I want to be able to connect with spirit, give my clients what they need and promote healing and the resolution of grief and moving on for people.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I couldn't do it and, you know, didn't really trigger me that much.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I was just like all right, I got to trust spirit that what happened was meant to happen and maybe, you know, maybe she had an extra bill that showed up that month and she needed the $200 to pay for that.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I have no idea, but I had to trust that whatever happened was supposed to happen and I let it go.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I literally let it go.
- 16:07Speaker 1: A medium's worst case scenario didn't bother me, let it go.
- 16:10Speaker 1: In fact I gave her a referral to somebody else because I was like I don't know what I could.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't know, but here you go, here's some other mediums that can probably read you.
- 16:17Speaker 1: So you know, I know some mediums needed to hear that message right now, like spirits, like thank you for saying that Because one reading doesn't define me, right, it doesn't define who I am, when 99.99% of every other reading is fine and sometimes it just doesn't work and that's okay.
- 16:40Speaker 1: So I wasn't triggered by that.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So spirit brought that in to say stop worrying about it, it's not an issue, right, which I was very thankful for for that trigger lesson.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And then just earlier today I had a lovely client that came in that cut off a member of her family.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I'm not going to say who it is obviously I don't like to name names on this podcast unless they're cool with it, but I had a client come in that cut off her family member and was going through the really deep, gritty part of it.
- 17:13Speaker 1: For those of you that have done that like it's hard.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It's really hard and I will be fully honest that I cut out my own family for a pretty good period of time.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I needed so you can hear all the ums.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm very uncomfortable with this conversation.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It was it's not something I like to talk about.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I think I need to be more open about it because I needed that time for me like to talk about.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I think I need to be more open about it because I needed that time for me.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I needed to separate from my family to really figure out who I am and what I'm supposed to do, without the expectations and weights of others and a lot of the things that were that were causing, I'm going to say, um, anxiety within myself in regards to the relationship with my family.
- 17:59Speaker 1: It was just shit that I didn't realize I needed to relationship with my family.
- 18:02Speaker 1: It was just shit that I didn't realize I needed to deal with inside myself.
- 18:05Speaker 1: So I actually needed the distance to solve that shit in me so that I could stand up fully in my power and be my best self.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And, by the way, that's when all the spiritual awakening happened for me, in case that clarifies anything for all of you.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But having a client that came my way with the my most traumatic trigger right, cutting off family, which is so hard to do and it like it's literally the strong ones that do it.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Um, there's other strengths too.
- 18:36Speaker 1: That's not what I mean you can pause the hate mail, um but the fact that she came to me with this story and I was able to read for her, pulling her departed grandparents, read for her, talk about this story, talk about you know from the grandmother what she needs to do, how to heal, how to move through it and not bring my story into it and giving her space for her story and her experience.
- 19:01Speaker 1: It and giving her space for her story and her experience, like that was a huge, huge trigger that could have come up in me.
- 19:08Speaker 1: But again, it didn't, because I've gone through and I've resolved it and this is spirit coming to me saying good job, you have worked through that trigger, it doesn't bother you anymore, right?
- 19:20Speaker 1: So this is what I'm talking about, like, these are the different signs that you've overcome the triggers.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Obviously, this the client did not just come to prove that I don't have a trigger.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I'm so glad she came to me so that we could work through and give her like the help and direction she needed.
- 19:36Speaker 1: But this is what spirit does.
- 19:37Speaker 1: They need you to work through these things so that you can show up and help people with it in the future.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So, mediums out there, are you listening, because you need.
- 19:47Speaker 1: This is why you keep getting the clients that drive you nuts, the clients that bring up the triggers, because you need to fix it so that you can help the clients.
- 19:56Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I have a whole bunch more.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm not going to go and go there because spirit is just constantly reminding me how many triggers I have.
- 20:02Speaker 1: A whole bunch more.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm not going to go and go there because spirit is just constantly reminding me how many triggers I have.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's great, it's a journey.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's a journey.
- 20:08Speaker 1: So signs that you're overcoming your triggers, obviously, like I was just mentioning, once you've been triggered, if you're not affected anymore, great.
- 20:16Speaker 1: They send you tests.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You handle them calmly.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Great, right, you feel more grounded and control in control of your emotions when these triggers happen.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Great, like these are all signs of progress.
- 20:26Speaker 1: You're doing great, fantastic.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So again I want to reiterate that triggers don't happen to you, they happen for you.
- 20:35Speaker 1: They are growth opportunities from spirit.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So when you stop reacting and start learning from your triggers, know that you're evolving, you're becoming closer to the best version of yourself and if you're ever wondering why these triggers are popping up or you don't understand the root cause, like work with your spirit team and they will gladly gladly show you the way.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I hope this was really helpful for you.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I do want to say, if you have triggers or you know someone that's struggling with triggers God isn't everybody feel free to share this podcast, especially if you have, like someone like me that just brings up the same topic over and over again, be like hey, I think you should listen to this.
- 21:18Speaker 1: There's a there's, there's a reason why that keeps happening to you are the same people keep showing up in your life over and over again because you have something you need to work through.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I will also say, if you have triggers and you're not sure how to move past it like if these are bigger things I'm gonna say more traumatic things or you keep having them and you're trying to do these steps and it's not working.
- 21:41Speaker 1: This is like a really good case for working with an expert and when I say an expert, like I love therapists.
- 21:48Speaker 1: They have their place, but also.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Spiritual guidance is also immensely, immensely helpful, immensely helpful for things like this.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And do you know what I'm just gonna?
- 21:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna close it with you know what?
- 22:02Speaker 1: How I got over the trauma of, or the trigger of me, cutting off my own family.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I had an Akashic Records reading that said I chose my family because I needed to prove to myself that I could raise myself and be responsible for myself independently myself and be responsible for myself independently.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So that's why I chose the family I did and that's why I felt the need to cut them off, because my journey here is independent self-sufficiency and I can't do that when I'm latched onto people and doing things for other people.
- 22:35Speaker 1: How cool is that?
- 22:37Speaker 1: Akashic Records people.
- 22:39Speaker 1: It's real, it's real.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So hope, hope.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You all enjoyed me dishing about all of my drama and my triggers.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I hope you've got something out of it as well.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Work through those triggers, keep me posted, tag me if you're working through things like I love to hear the stories of success and overcoming and you becoming your best self, because that's what I live for.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Thanks so much, everybody.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I hope you take care.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Have a great day.
