October 29, 2026. At 8:53 on Wednesday morning a Renfe train struck a stationary Iryo train on Spain's Madrid to Andalusia high-speed line, near Urda in Toledo province. At least 68 people were killed and more than 100 injured. Spain's transport minister says a computer malfunction stopped every train on a 39-mile stretch at 8:30, and that the central command centre then told the Renfe train to proceed with no speed restriction while a stop signal was still active.
