- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. This week on Yo!
- 0:13Speaker 2: Gavel Gavel, if your friend promises you her guest house
- 0:16Speaker 2: to live in and then says no a week before
- 0:18Speaker 2: you're supposed to move in, does she owe you money?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Judge Millian dips it low. And if you accidentally drop
- 0:27Speaker 1: a vase while you're cleaning it and it cuts your hand,
- 0:30Speaker 1: can you sue the homeowner? Or is the blood on
- 0:33Speaker 1: your hands also on yours? Not a judge. No. Maybelline
- 0:38Speaker 1: tells us real people. Real cases. Fake justice. This is
- 0:41Speaker 1: your gavel gavel. Gavel gavel. Come on, everybody. Let's do
- 0:45Speaker 1: the gavel. Gavel. Gavel. Gavel. Gavel. Come on, everybody. Hi, everybody.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Welcome to Yoga on the Gobble. Hey, that just faded
- 0:51Speaker 1: out really fast, didn't it? It certainly did. It was
- 0:52Speaker 1: faster than normal today. Phew! What's this show about, Brad? Oh,
- 0:56Speaker 1: it's a very simple program, Dan. Every week, you and I,
- 0:59Speaker 1: we both watch a TV courtroom case. It can be
- 1:02Speaker 1: anybody from Judge Judy to Judge Millian to Judge Joe Brown.
- 1:07Speaker 1: It could be all of them. Right? Judge Joe Brown.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I watch one. Dan watches a different one. We don't
- 1:13Speaker 1: watch each other's cases. We don't watch them. We tell
- 1:16Speaker 1: each other about them and we try to guess the verdict.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And that's the game. That's the game. That's the show.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And you can play along at home as you're listening in.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Maybe you can try to guess the verdict. And please
- 1:26Speaker 1: leave a review on Apple Podcasts. We would love to
- 1:28Speaker 1: hear from you. Just like this person did. We don't
- 1:33Speaker 1: have one. Nope, we got nothing. Sorry, there's nothing I
- 1:35Speaker 1: can do for you. I don't know. I got a
- 1:38Speaker 1: short one today. I got a shorty. A pair of teeth? Yes,
- 1:42Speaker 1: a pair of teeth. Two of them. Two teeth. For
- 1:46Speaker 1: the price of one. Maybe it's Maybelline. This is Judge Maybelline,
- 1:51Speaker 1: who I like. I like Judge Maybelline. I do, too.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Kavari Potter is suing Leah Ollie for $ 1, 000. $ 1, 000. The
- 2:01Speaker 1: price of her deductible, which I did last week. Interesting
- 2:06Speaker 1: deductible train we're on right now. Everybody's doing deductibles. Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You get a deductible. Everybody's doing deductibles. Leah Ollie is
- 2:12Speaker 1: countersuing for $ 500 for the price of a vase. A vase.
- 2:17Speaker 1: which she is, I believe, from Peri. And so she says, oh, waste,
- 2:24Speaker 1: which is very funny. Anyway, Kavari got hurt in Leah's
- 2:30Speaker 1: house while cleaning. Okay. Okay. She had already cleaned all
- 2:34Speaker 1: the rooms. She was finishing up the bathroom. When Leah
- 2:38Speaker 1: comes by, and asks her to clean a flower vase
- 2:41Speaker 1: in the living room before she leaves. Okay? Okay. She
- 2:44Speaker 1: goes to pick it up. She has her gloves on.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Gloves on. Leah says, hey, can you clean it without
- 2:49Speaker 1: wearing those gloves? Because I don't know if those are
- 2:51Speaker 1: the same gloves you were wearing to clean the bathroom. Okay. Okay.
- 2:55Speaker 1: This is very weird. Gloves off. But doesn't the person
- 3:00Speaker 1: wearing the gloves know if those gloves are the same? Yes. Okay,
- 3:03Speaker 1: then why can't they just make a decision for themselves?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Because Leah says, yeah, no gloves. Gloves off. So she's
- 3:11Speaker 1: cleaning the vase over the sink, and she accidentally drops it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: She claims that Leah begins to yell at her to
- 3:20Speaker 1: clean up the vase quicker. And so she's very nervous.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We have a woman who's.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Hired someone to clean their house and is standing there
- 3:32Speaker 2: watching them clean, giving instructions. And then after something breaks,
- 3:38Speaker 2: giving instructions on how to clean that up.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Yes. I hate this person. She is. Okay. So I
- 3:45Speaker 1: hate him. Uh, yeah. Okay.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So the worst person you're the word, if you have
- 3:51Speaker 2: time to sit around and order your cleaner around, do
- 3:57Speaker 2: it your damn self. That's pathetic.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Sorry. Back to you, Brandon. Okay. Um, So she's very nervous. Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And she cuts her hand real good. Real good. She
- 4:12Speaker 1: claims that Leah began to yell at her further, telling
- 4:15Speaker 1: her to get out of her house, which she did.
- 4:17Speaker 1: She goes to the hospital. She gets into this whole
- 4:21Speaker 1: thing where she says that she didn't want to use
- 4:24Speaker 1: her medical insurance because she didn't want it to affect
- 4:26Speaker 1: her premium. But she did it anyway. Yeah. She claims
- 4:32Speaker 1: that this wasn't her fault. She treats me with no humanity.
- 4:36Speaker 1: She makes me scared. That sounds right. And she makes
- 4:38Speaker 1: me sad. Yep. Yeah. So Judge Maybelline asks Leah why
- 4:44Speaker 1: she shouldn't have to pay for this injury. Leah says,
- 4:50Speaker 1: why should I? She's the one who dropped the waist.
- 4:54Speaker 1: The waist? Judge Maybelline's like, the what? The waist. Oh,
- 4:58Speaker 1: the vase. She's the one who cut herself. She's the
- 5:02Speaker 1: one who messed up my house with her blood. She
- 5:06Speaker 1: supplies photos showing all the blood that was left behind.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's a lot of blood. I don't know. I don't
- 5:14Speaker 1: think that this is doing... Her what she thinks it's doing.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Leah says that she thinks that she can come into
- 5:22Speaker 1: my house and make a mess with her blood and
- 5:26Speaker 1: make me pay for it. I just don't get it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Judge Maybelline's ready to roll. So rich people are the worst.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Leah should 100% pay the thousands, should not get money
- 5:39Speaker 2: for her vase, and should never ever show her face
- 5:42Speaker 2: in a courtroom again.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Judge Maybelline says, yeah. She says, let me help you
- 5:49Speaker 1: get it. This woman is not your friend. She came
- 5:53Speaker 1: to your house to do a job. If she gets
- 5:56Speaker 1: hurt on the job in your house while doing that job,
- 6:00Speaker 1: you should have gone to either your home insurance or...
- 6:04Speaker 1: your workers' comp insurance, assuming you have that and are
- 6:07Speaker 1: taking care of your employees. Instead, she used her own insurance,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and you're going to have to pay that deductible. Leah says,
- 6:15Speaker 1: but what about my vase? My vase. My vase. Judge
- 6:19Speaker 1: Maybelline says... what about it get a new one leah
- 6:23Speaker 1: says so i have to go all the way to
- 6:25Speaker 1: italy to get another one she says i don't care
- 6:28Speaker 1: where you get it it's not her fault when you
- 6:31Speaker 1: bring someone into your house and there isn't uh there
- 6:34Speaker 1: you're taking on the inherent risk that something could happen
- 6:37Speaker 1: it was an accident get out of here get them
- 6:39Speaker 1: judge maybelline get them maybelline just judge uh Mathis would
- 6:45Speaker 1: have been like, well, listen, Italian vases are expensive. They
- 6:48Speaker 1: are expensive. You dirty poor person should have done a
- 6:51Speaker 1: better job. Cavari seems like a very sweet lady. Leah, Ollie,
- 7:00Speaker 1: she does come across, obviously, she's just not a nice person, right?
- 7:06Speaker 1: But I don't think that she has a very thick...
- 7:09Speaker 1: Italian accent, right? Yeah. And there is this harshness that
- 7:14Speaker 1: comes with this broken English that did not do her
- 7:16Speaker 1: any favors. Didn't help. Didn't help. She's already mean, but
- 7:20Speaker 1: she came across like a movie villain in this case. Dano,
- 7:26Speaker 1: where are we going now? We're going to Justice for
- 7:29Speaker 1: the People with Judge Millian. This is Judge Millian's show
- 7:33Speaker 1: after the People's Court, which I gotta be honest, I
- 7:36Speaker 1: like better. I like this TV show better than The
- 7:40Speaker 1: People's Court. Can I tell you, where does it air?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Is it on TV or is it a streamer? I
- 7:44Speaker 1: don't know. Can I tell you something that I saw
- 7:46Speaker 1: yesterday and I meant to check it out today and
- 7:48Speaker 1: I forgot? There is a new Judge Judy show. Before
- 7:55Speaker 1: you stop, stop. Before stop, stop. No. And it looks
- 8:00Speaker 1: like it's Hot Bench, but it's not like I see
- 8:03Speaker 1: Hot Bench Lady on there. What's Hot Bench Lady's name?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Not Judge Faith. Ms. Bench. Yeah. I don't know. There's
- 8:11Speaker 1: that white lady with the blonde hair. Yes, Perez. Yes, Perez. Okay,
- 8:15Speaker 1: so Perez is in the picture along with some other judges,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and apparently they watch some sort of surveillance footage and
- 8:24Speaker 1: give legal feedback on it. So that's not really a gavel. No,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it's not, but I wanted to look at it. Cool.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Maybe we can watch it together sometime. Cool. Maybe we
- 8:32Speaker 1: can watch it together sometime. Yeah, when we finish Private Ryan. Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It's been a month. This is ridiculous. Sorry, go ahead.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I like this show better. You don't have the dude
- 8:44Speaker 1: out there doing the interviews with the people on the street.
- 8:47Speaker 1: The TMZ guy? It feels like there's a lot of
- 8:49Speaker 1: bells and whistles to people's court. Did you know that's
- 8:51Speaker 1: a TMZ guy? I did not know that. But those
- 8:54Speaker 1: bells and whistles were maybe cool 25 years ago. They're
- 8:56Speaker 1: just not cool now.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Kathy Manfred is suing Marcia Stevens for $ 640. This is
- 9:05Speaker 2: for the cost of storage. That's important that you know
- 9:10Speaker 2: that brand. Kathy Manfred suing Marcia Stevens, $ 640 cost of storage.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Kathy begins. Your Honor, I've known Marcia for 10 years.
- 9:19Speaker 2: We were ride and die friends. She messed that up.
- 9:22Speaker 2: She messes up several phrases in this particular court case.
- 9:25Speaker 2: You're not ride and die.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You're ride or die. You know what? They rode and
- 9:30Speaker 1: they doed. They ride and die. I think ride and
- 9:34Speaker 1: die actually is more effective because with you, I would
- 9:37Speaker 1: ride with you and I would die with you.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It's not an either or. Ride and die implies you're
- 9:42Speaker 2: going to do both. Ride or die is like we're
- 9:43Speaker 2: going to ride and if we die trying, that's fine.
- 9:45Speaker 2: But one or the other is going to happen. We
- 9:47Speaker 2: can't ride if we're dead. So we ride or die.
- 9:49Speaker 2: We ride or die. And then we die. It's like,
- 9:52Speaker 2: what's that? Not Laverne and Shirley. That's so stupid. Selma
- 9:55Speaker 2: and Louise.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Okay. They ride and then they die. Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 2: You get it. Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Maybe we've been wrong this whole time. Ride and die.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And Kathy's been right. It's a ride and die. That's
- 10:04Speaker 1: exactly right. She's like, Your Honor, we're on the praise
- 10:05Speaker 1: and worship team in church. Lord, I lift your name
- 10:08Speaker 1: on high. Come on, everybody. Get those hands up. Lord,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I love to sing your praises. I'm so glad. I'm
- 10:16Speaker 1: so glad you're in my life. Glad you came to
- 10:19Speaker 1: save us. I'm so glad you came to save us.
- 10:24Speaker 3: You came from heaven to earth to show the way.
- 10:28Speaker 3: From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay.
- 10:32Speaker 3: From the cross to the grave, from the grave to
- 10:35Speaker 3: the sky.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Lord, I lift a name on high. Oh, you raised
- 10:39Speaker 1: the roof. I raised the roof. You went back to, okay.
- 10:41Speaker 1: That's the difference. Yeah, that's the difference. Go ahead. Different churches,
- 10:44Speaker 1: different churches. Different churches, different churches. Ride and die. Okay.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Uh, she, you know, I thought we were right, right.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And I friends, but she dropped me when I really
- 10:55Speaker 2: needed her. My husband was really sick and his, my
- 10:59Speaker 2: husband is really sick and his health is declining. And
- 11:01Speaker 2: I had to, uh, there was a healthcare facility he
- 11:04Speaker 2: had to go to in Santa Barbara. I lived in
- 11:06Speaker 2: Los Angeles. There was a two hour commute one way. Uh,
- 11:09Speaker 2: we suffered a pretty great financial hardship. I asked if
- 11:12Speaker 2: she could help me out for about six months while
- 11:16Speaker 2: he got the care he needed in this facility. She
- 11:19Speaker 2: lived in Santa Barbara at the time. She said, yes.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And I need you to know that I had done
- 11:24Speaker 2: this for her over the course of our 10 year friendship.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I had helped her out numerous times over the course
- 11:29Speaker 2: of the 10 years. And I asked her for her help.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And she was great. She said, while my husband was
- 11:36Speaker 2: in this facility in Santa Barbara, I could stay in
- 11:39Speaker 2: her guest house for six months. Millian says, were you
- 11:42Speaker 2: going to be paying rent?
- 11:43Speaker 1: She says, no. I asked her as a friend. She
- 11:46Speaker 1: was gracious as a friend to help me out. So Uh,
- 11:50Speaker 1: she said, I can use my guest house. I, my
- 11:52Speaker 1: lease was up. I was going to put my stuff
- 11:54Speaker 1: in storage and I was literally going to live in
- 11:56Speaker 1: Santa Barbara in her guest house for the six months
- 11:59Speaker 1: while my husband was in this healthcare facility. You got it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Got it. Great. So, uh, millions like what happened?
- 12:05Speaker 2: She said, your honor, a week before I was supposed
- 12:07Speaker 2: to move in, she texted me and said her daughter
- 12:10Speaker 2: was having marital problems or whatever and needed to use
- 12:14Speaker 2: the guest house and I could no longer use it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: So wow. A week out.
- 12:19Speaker 2: A Marsha says my daughter and grandchildren, your honor million says, okay,
- 12:24Speaker 2: hold on one second. How many kids does your daughter have?
- 12:26Speaker 2: She says three and she's a stay at home mom
- 12:30Speaker 2: and million goes. So your daughter calls you, uh, and
- 12:33Speaker 2: says she needs the guest house and, but you'd already
- 12:37Speaker 2: promised it to Marsha.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Uh, how big is the guest house?
- 12:43Speaker 2: She says, your honor, it's one bedroom and a full
- 12:45Speaker 2: living room and a full bath Uh, but you also
- 12:48Speaker 2: need to know this. Kathy only calls me when there's
- 12:49Speaker 2: a problem. Uh, I met her 10 years ago. I
- 12:52Speaker 2: moved to Santa Barbara five years ago. I like Kathy.
- 12:55Speaker 2: She's the life of the party. We call her chatty.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Kathy.
- 12:57Speaker 2: When she called me, I opened up the guest house immediately.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I said, no problem. I told her she could come
- 13:03Speaker 2: right away if she needed to. She said, no, she
- 13:05Speaker 2: needed to come in a few weeks, get her affairs
- 13:07Speaker 2: in order. And, uh, A week before she was supposed
- 13:09Speaker 2: to be here, my daughter called crying, saying her marriage
- 13:12Speaker 2: was absolutely over. She was filing for divorce and needed
- 13:15Speaker 2: a place to stay.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm her mother. She didn't have any other options. Yeah.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I said she could come back home. And you're, are
- 13:23Speaker 1: you going to tell me that Kathy is going to
- 13:27Speaker 1: have an issue with her prioritizing her daughter and her
- 13:33Speaker 1: grandchildren who are going through a traumatic experience right now?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Remember, First of all, there's some twists and turns that
- 13:40Speaker 2: are going to make you even more crazy about this,
- 13:42Speaker 2: but you need to know Kathy is suing for storage space, right?
- 13:48Speaker 2: So like Kathy is suing because she had one storage
- 13:52Speaker 2: unit and now because she can't store all of her
- 13:55Speaker 2: stuff in this, basically this house, she is suing because
- 13:59Speaker 2: the storage is costing her more money because the promise
- 14:02Speaker 2: the friend gave her is no longer there.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Okay? Okay. You got that, right? Yeah. It's important. She's
- 14:09Speaker 1: not suing for the free place.
- 14:11Speaker 2: She's suing because she made a lot of plans based
- 14:15Speaker 2: upon where she was going to live, and those plans changed.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Okay. That is her entire premise. Okay. It's about to
- 14:21Speaker 1: get crazy. You ready?
- 14:22Speaker 2: Judge Millian says, Marcia, how many bedrooms does your main
- 14:28Speaker 2: house have? Marcia says, oh, this is the guest house. Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 2: it's a separate house. It's like, yeah, it's like the
- 14:34Speaker 2: pool house.
- 14:35Speaker 1: It's like the pool house. Got it.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Full bath, full living room, one bedroom. She promised it
- 14:39Speaker 2: to Kathy. Now she's giving it to her daughter, not Kathy.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:42Speaker 2: How many bedrooms does your main house have? Marcia says four.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Millian says, who lives there right now? She says, just
- 14:51Speaker 2: my husband and I. Millian says, so you promised Kathy
- 14:55Speaker 2: the guest house. Your daughter's got three kids. I understand
- 14:58Speaker 2: you want your daughter to have her own place with
- 15:00Speaker 2: three kids. So you give her the guest house. Did
- 15:03Speaker 2: you ever think maybe I could offer Kathy a room
- 15:07Speaker 2: in my main house?
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah. And Marsha says, your honor, I did.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Your honor, I did. I called Kathy several times. I said,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you can have a full bedroom. In our main house
- 15:25Speaker 2: for the full six months, million says, Kathy, Kathy says,
- 15:32Speaker 2: I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I will, but
- 15:38Speaker 2: the main house was just one room and not a
- 15:40Speaker 2: full living space. Million says, I'm sorry. you're saying you
- 15:46Speaker 2: wanted someone to be there for you, and she offered
- 15:48Speaker 2: to be there for you. In a way that is
- 15:51Speaker 2: putting her out way more.
- 15:53Speaker 1: That's right. Like, that's somebody living in your dwelling.
- 15:56Speaker 2: It's not a separate building, right?
- 15:59Speaker 1: She's going to get there. So not only is Marcia
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to have to care for her daughter and her
- 16:05Speaker 1: grandkids who are living in the guest house and are
- 16:08Speaker 1: going through a situation where they're going to need her.
- 16:12Speaker 1: She said, you can live in my house with me.
- 16:13Speaker 1: In her house! With me for six months. God!
- 16:16Speaker 2: For rent free. Ah, she says, you're saying the space
- 16:20Speaker 2: she offered wasn't good enough for you. Where does this
- 16:23Speaker 2: six 40 come from storage? She goes, yes, your honor.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I was inconvenienced. I had a plan to have my,
- 16:29Speaker 2: like I was a week out. Like the storage had
- 16:32Speaker 2: already been booked. I had a plan of all the
- 16:34Speaker 2: stuff that I was going to keep with me in
- 16:36Speaker 2: this guest house that now I had.
- 16:38Speaker 1: To figure out, you know, they say about plans. Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You said plans are for stands and apples and me. Yes. Okay.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I did the assume. Uh, she's like, your honor.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I had furniture. I had things that weren't going to
- 16:50Speaker 2: fit in this one room. And she, and me, I
- 16:54Speaker 2: was like, all right, so this is about storage. She goes,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you were going to store your stuff anyway, regardless, right?
- 16:59Speaker 1: You were. Kathy doesn't answer.
- 17:02Speaker 2: You're moving out to Santa Barbara and you want her
- 17:05Speaker 2: to pay because the amount of storage you have to
- 17:08Speaker 2: get is changing. Uh, Because she's offering you a free
- 17:12Speaker 2: place to stay. Even though she did promise you the
- 17:14Speaker 2: guest house, the guest house no longer available. Where'd you
- 17:17Speaker 2: end up since you turned down her free room? Where
- 17:20Speaker 2: did you end up? She was like, your honor. I
- 17:23Speaker 2: ended up, I'm paying rent in Santa Barbara. Wouldn't it
- 17:26Speaker 2: have been better? To just stay in the room. She
- 17:29Speaker 2: offered you, she was like, your honor, I needed space
- 17:33Speaker 2: for my stuff. I wanted to be in the guest house.
- 17:35Speaker 2: She promised me the guest house. And then she told
- 17:38Speaker 2: me a week out. I couldn't have it. I was
- 17:40Speaker 2: in a tough spot stuff. Was she bringing her husband?
- 17:44Speaker 1: I mean, she's older. her and her husband had a
- 17:45Speaker 1: whole life together and they were paying rent. So, but
- 17:48Speaker 1: it's still, you're going to somebody else's. What I'm assuming
- 17:51Speaker 1: is a furnished guest house already. Like how much stuff
- 17:54Speaker 1: is of her own? Is she bringing with her enough
- 17:56Speaker 1: to where the storage was going to change? Yeah. Million says,
- 18:00Speaker 1: so what should happen? She's like, should she have let
- 18:04Speaker 1: you keep the guest house and then let the daughter
- 18:07Speaker 1: and kids have the main house? Is that what she
- 18:11Speaker 1: should have done?
- 18:12Speaker 2: And she goes, your honor, she, promised me the guest
- 18:15Speaker 2: house Lord. And it was a week out and I
- 18:19Speaker 2: had had plans and millions. She's still offering you a
- 18:22Speaker 2: free place to live for six months. And there's four
- 18:25Speaker 2: of them. And there's one of you.
- 18:26Speaker 1: And now she's being inconvenienced because you are living in
- 18:30Speaker 1: her main house, right?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Marsha says, no, Your Honor, not only did she turn
- 18:35Speaker 2: me down, she got mad at me. I offered her
- 18:38Speaker 2: a place to stay. She read me the write-out, and
- 18:39Speaker 2: she got angry. And this is a Christian woman who's
- 18:42Speaker 2: at the front of the church every Sunday, but she's
- 18:44Speaker 2: getting mad at me, and she's one of those people
- 18:45Speaker 2: that's at the front of the church but with Advil
- 18:47Speaker 2: in her coffee. Millian says, what does that mean? She goes,
- 18:51Speaker 2: you know, from having too much fun the night before,
- 18:53Speaker 2: but still in the front of the church, then million
- 18:55Speaker 2: gets really mad at Marsha.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So wait a minute.
- 18:58Speaker 2: What's church for? Isn't having what's wrong with having fun
- 19:01Speaker 2: on Saturday night and then going to church on Sunday morning.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And then Kathy says, you who have sinned, cast the
- 19:06Speaker 2: first stone, swing and a miss Kathy.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Uh, it's you. No sin. You missed that one. You
- 19:12Speaker 1: can say ride and die. You missed that one. Kathy,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you missed that one.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Uh, But Millian does read Marsha the Riot Act for going,
- 19:20Speaker 2: you can't judge people in church, which good on you, Millian.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Millian's ready to rule. 640 for storage. I can't, in
- 19:28Speaker 2: good faith, give her any money. Like, I think anybody
- 19:35Speaker 2: that is thinking even remotely clearly would see this situation
- 19:40Speaker 2: and have any sort of sympathy for this person's, this.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Woman's your friend's daughter who is clearly something has happened, right?
- 19:52Speaker 1: Something traumatic happened to where her daughter called her and crying, saying,
- 19:59Speaker 1: this is it, I was over it.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Like, just to put it in perspective, like, you and
- 20:03Speaker 2: I are really close. In 15 years, when our kids
- 20:07Speaker 2: are in their 20s, if I really, like, if you
- 20:09Speaker 2: and I had something we needed to do, and we
- 20:11Speaker 2: had been on the books for a year, and it's important,
- 20:14Speaker 2: we both have to do it. And the day it's
- 20:16Speaker 2: supposed to happen... One of my kids calls me or
- 20:19Speaker 2: one of your kids calls you and says, I need
- 20:22Speaker 2: you right now. You are bailing on me without question.
- 20:26Speaker 2: If period, and I'm bailing on you.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Period. Yeah. End of story. If my kid, if
- 20:32Speaker 1: my 25 year old kid is in a jam. That
- 20:35Speaker 1: is it. That's the end of the discussion. And you
- 20:39Speaker 1: would just go, well, that sucks for me, but I
- 20:41Speaker 1: get it. And I would do the same thing. What
- 20:44Speaker 1: are we doing here? And not only that, she did
- 20:49Speaker 1: everything that she could to make sure that she still
- 20:52Speaker 1: had a place in a way that I got to
- 20:54Speaker 1: be honest with you, I don't think I would want
- 20:56Speaker 1: this woman living in my house.
- 20:58Speaker 2: No, Kathy, very quickly. You know, the thing about Milyan
- 21:01Speaker 2: is real people, real cases. And Kathy immediately was somebody
- 21:05Speaker 2: that just.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Takes advantage of people. Immediately.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Now, Milyan is obviously not going to give her the money,
- 21:10Speaker 2: but the way that Milyan rules makes it sound like
- 21:13Speaker 2: she is going to give her the money.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But I want you to know that ahead of time
- 21:15Speaker 1: she didn't freak out. I am going to, yeah, obviously
- 21:17Speaker 1: no money. She says, normally in a contract, someone's hired,
- 21:21Speaker 1: someone pays. So both sides give something up in a contract.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's quid pro quo. This is not a contract. It's
- 21:28Speaker 1: a promise.
- 21:29Speaker 2: If I said I'm going to give you a million dollars,
- 21:30Speaker 2: I don't give you a million dollars, you can't sue me.
- 21:33Speaker 2: But every once in a blue moon, there are specific
- 21:35Speaker 2: promises that are made, if agreed upon, that do require
- 21:40Speaker 2: some backing of the law and a place to stay
- 21:42Speaker 2: is one of them. The problem is that... You're saying
- 21:45Speaker 2: she promised you a specific space and then didn't provide it,
- 21:49Speaker 2: and so it cost you more money in storage. But
- 21:51Speaker 2: the problem is you're paying rent right now. If you
- 21:55Speaker 2: had taken the guest room.
- 22:00Speaker 2: And then said, I need the money for storage, you
- 22:04Speaker 2: would have possibly had a case based upon the fact
- 22:07Speaker 2: that Marcia's in the courtroom saying, I promised you the
- 22:10Speaker 2: guest house and then didn't give it to you. But
- 22:12Speaker 2: you didn't do that. What you're saying is not true.
- 22:15Speaker 2: You don't need the money for storage because you're using
- 22:17Speaker 2: it for rent right now. She offered you a place
- 22:20Speaker 2: to stay and you didn't take it. You cannot possibly
- 22:23Speaker 2: ask her to pay the money that you clearly have
- 22:25Speaker 2: to pay yourself.
- 22:26Speaker 1: No money for you. Fascinating. At the end of the day,
- 22:30Speaker 1: it seems like she didn't want to spend her money
- 22:35Speaker 1: on rent, but she did. She had clearly has at
- 22:38Speaker 1: one point, she starts to say a sentence, the money
- 22:40Speaker 1: I was supposed to save. And then she stops. Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Because it's not like it is. It costs money up
- 22:48Speaker 1: front to get into an apartment, right? To get into
- 22:51Speaker 1: a rental house. That is one of the big hurdles
- 22:54Speaker 1: for people, lower income people, for getting a place. That
- 22:57Speaker 1: is a big chunk of change that a lot of
- 23:00Speaker 1: people don't have. You got it. She clearly did. So tough, tough,
- 23:04Speaker 1: tough boat there. Tough boat. Tough boat. Tough boat. We gaveled.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Put that on a shirt. Tough boat. Tough boat. All right.
- 23:13Speaker 1: We'll be back next week with two more cases. Come
- 23:15Speaker 1: on back for that. Tell your friends. Tell your family.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Tell your enemies. Until then, all rise. Why is this
- 23:22Speaker 1: button so weird?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Yo, Gabble Gabble's a Bramble Jam podcast produced by Brandon Gray.
- 23:27Speaker 1: That's why the button went wrong. It's in that Greenville,
