- 0:00So, the boat was still at their home when they showed up at the agreed upon meeting place
- 0:06near Oxbow Park, which meet in public, but how are you going to go and meet with this
- 0:12person to talk to them about selling you a boat, but you don't have the boat?
- 0:17Doesn't that seem odd?
- 0:19I don't know.
- 0:20I'm just saying, I have sold exactly zero boats, but I would think that like you got
- 0:25a half of a boat when you meet the guy about the boat.
- 0:30Probably.
- 0:31I don't know.
- 0:32Hi, Cassie.
- 0:39Hi, Caitlyn.
- 0:41Hi, creepy people.
- 0:43Hello!
- 0:44Hello!
- 0:45We're here.
- 0:46We did it.
- 0:49We got the microphones and the cameras to work all at the same time, but at what cost?
- 0:58Sanity and a few hours.
- 1:01Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:02It's fine.
- 1:03Actually, this is one of our shorter sessions trying to get everything to work.
- 1:09Think about it.
- 1:10Yeah, I guess.
- 1:12It is.
- 1:13It is, for sure, is.
- 1:14I'm knocking on all the way with any huzzle.
- 1:18Should I just jump right into this or should we finish our intro?
- 1:22Like how you feel?
- 1:23Oh, yeah, let's intro it.
- 1:25Okay.
- 1:26If you're new to our creepy corner of the world, this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where
- 1:32we chat about true crime, the paranormal, and all things creepy in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:39And we do this little thing at the end of our show where we do some tarot.
- 1:44That kind of rhymes.
- 1:45The end of our show.
- 1:46We do some tarot.
- 1:47I like it.
- 1:48And that just gives us a little deeper insight into our topic.
- 1:54Yeah.
- 1:55That's the deal.
- 1:57All right.
- 1:58And it's fun.
- 1:59Yeah.
- 2:00We have fun with it.
- 2:01So that's why we do it.
- 2:03So here we go.
- 2:04Give me a little fun in our lives.
- 2:06Yeah.
- 2:07Okay.
- 2:08All right.
- 2:09Well, speaking of fun.
- 2:11Yeah, Caitlin, give us some fun.
- 2:13Let's go.
- 2:14Oh, boy.
- 2:15Okay.
- 2:16We have wine here.
- 2:17Oh, go ahead and grab those glasses now.
- 2:20That'll help my splitting my grain.
- 2:22Yeah.
- 2:23No, not to get today too.
- 2:26Oh, yeah.
- 2:27That's what you get for forgetting your pills and then being in the sun for hours and working
- 2:32all day.
- 2:33I mean, that kind of sounds like you had it coming.
- 2:35Yeah.
- 2:36I did it to myself, you know.
- 2:38Oh.
- 2:39I hate that, though.
- 2:40It's okay.
- 2:41I'm here to listen to some sad stuff.
- 2:43Yeah.
- 2:44Okay.
- 2:45Well, more ridiculousness.
- 2:50Okay.
- 2:51I'm ready.
- 2:52You think so.
- 2:53On February 6, 2009, two men, Gerald Ford and James Pogue were passing by the Gordon Creek
- 3:02Bridge on their way into town.
- 3:05Whatever their plans had been that day, they were abruptly derailed as they'd spotted a
- 3:10badly injured woman.
- 3:13No, look at that.
- 3:15She's like, I don't know how to react yet.
- 3:18I just want to stumble upon a badly injured woman.
- 3:24I, you know, I think probably nobody does.
- 3:26Yeah.
- 3:27It's not not a great situation for anyone.
- 3:30While one man stayed with her attempting to keep her calm, the other Gerald walked away
- 3:36toward an area that he thought he might kind of be able to get better cell service to
- 3:42some emergency assistance.
- 3:45So just picture like those old Verizon commercials.
- 3:48Can you hear me now?
- 3:50Can you hear me now?
- 3:51Can you hear me now?
- 3:52You hold up your phone?
- 3:53Yeah.
- 3:54Your flip phone?
- 3:56Yeah.
- 3:57Oh, God, flip phone.
- 3:58Yes.
- 3:59I don't know about you, but I had a razor and then I also had several side kicks.
- 4:07I had a razor.
- 4:08Yeah.
- 4:09So cool.
- 4:10Hazelyn Stombs was in rough shape.
- 4:16Not only was she seriously injured, but heartbreakingly, her nails were ragged from trying
- 4:22to claw her way up the side of the hill from the embankment where the two men had found
- 4:28her.
- 4:29Geez.
- 4:30She was in dire pain, but didn't let that distract her from ensuring that emergency responders
- 4:36understood her husband still needed help as well.
- 4:41Oh no.
- 4:43So he's like down where she climbed out of or possibly?
- 4:47Yeah.
- 4:48Okay.
- 4:49Yeah.
- 4:50Jerry, her husband, was born and raised in Gresham, Oregon, where the pair met when he was
- 4:5819 years old in 1969.
- 5:00Oh.
- 5:01No, I was like, I'm going to pause because I said 69.
- 5:04Oh.
- 5:05I was just like, oh, 19.
- 5:09Yeah.
- 5:10I didn't even notice the 69.
- 5:11That's how you know my ad hurts.
- 5:13Yeah.
- 5:14Oh.
- 5:15There's quickly became a match made in heaven.
- 5:19However, they would be separated by war as Jerry was called to serve in the Vietnam War.
- 5:25Thousands of miles and seemingly a world away.
- 5:28Oh.
- 5:29Yeah.
- 5:30I bet they wrote each other letters.
- 5:32My next sentence.
- 5:33However, they kept in touch while he was away writing frequent letters that clearly kept
- 5:39the romance alive.
- 5:41I love it.
- 5:42I love it.
- 5:43What's the one to write me letters?
- 5:45I know.
- 5:46God.
- 5:47And if they could put like a really fancy ass wax seal on it?
- 5:52Yeah.
- 5:53Are you going to write me letters, Caitlin?
- 5:57Well, I mean, I bottled the stuff to do the wax seals.
- 6:01So I wish I write letters to her Patreon.
- 6:03That would be fine.
- 6:05Like like an old school like note.
- 6:07Ooh.
- 6:08Like, hey, how's your day going?
- 6:10And like everything has an exclamation point at the end.
- 6:13Oh, of course.
- 6:16And of course, the wax seal.
- 6:19Yes.
- 6:20Yes.
- 6:21Okay.
- 6:22Just to be clear, when Jerry returned from Vietnam, he and Lynn were married.
- 6:27Of course.
- 6:28Of course.
- 6:29You can't not marry the man after you wrote you letters.
- 6:32I know.
- 6:33That is basically, I think it's probably the law.
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:39Not a lawyer, but--
- 6:43where Jerry was a man known for his boldness and fierce
- 6:47self-reliance, Lynn was an exceedingly kind woman who knew
- 6:51how to break through his tough exterior.
- 6:54In 1973, their first son, Jason, was born,
- 6:59followed in 1976 by their son Adam.
- 7:04She took to motherhood and the close-knit family
- 7:07seemed to flourish.
- 7:09They lived out in the country on several acres,
- 7:13giving them abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation.
- 7:19Jerry was a super outdoorsy outdoorsman type.
- 7:22Nice.
- 7:23Like lumberjockey.
- 7:25Yeah, a little bit.
- 7:25Nice.
- 7:27It also provided economic opportunity,
- 7:30the pair resided near the 44,500 block of East Haynes Road,
- 7:37where they ran their roughly 14-acre Christmas tree farm.
- 7:41Aww.
- 7:42That's so cute.
- 7:43That's so cute.
- 7:44I love Christmas tree farms.
- 7:47Like how every single Hallmark movie starts.
- 7:51Seriously.
- 7:51Do you want to know a secret about me?
- 7:53What?
- 7:54My grandparents used to have a Christmas tree farm.
- 7:56So I would like to work there when I was little.
- 7:58And I would like poor hot chocolate.
- 8:01And then I would give people like tours to all the little animals.
- 8:05A door of a wall.
- 8:06I know.
- 8:08I'm so cute.
- 8:09Yeah, that's so awesome.
- 8:11Just like this story, still for all the joy they experienced
- 8:15together, there are always milestones
- 8:18that bring grief in this life.
- 8:22As was the case when, in 1991, Lynn's father died.
- 8:28However, there was a little bit of a silver lining
- 8:32for the couple as her father's passing
- 8:35left her with a nice inheritance of about $1.7 million.
- 8:41Wow.
- 8:42Yeah.
- 8:43Like I want to say nice, but like the circumstance,
- 8:45this is obviously suck.
- 8:47Not ideal how you came--
- 8:49Yeah.
- 8:50Yeah.
- 8:51How you got the money isn't probably
- 8:53how you would have preferred, but here we go.
- 8:58This allowed the couple to invest in local real estate
- 9:01and breathe a sigh of relief.
- 9:03It appeared that if they had faced any financial struggles
- 9:06in the earlier days of their marriage,
- 9:09their finances wouldn't no longer be cause for concern.
- 9:13Good.
- 9:14Though things were a bit easier on the financial front,
- 9:18Jerry remained incredibly principled about their finances.
- 9:22This is something that a lot of people commented on
- 9:25in one of the sort of like short form documentary pieces
- 9:30that I watched about this.
- 9:32He refused to have debt of any kind.
- 9:36Well, like bought his cars and cash, anything
- 9:39that they wanted, like they had to save and pay for it and cash.
- 9:43I mean, smart.
- 9:45Yeah.
- 9:47In any case, after the cash infusion from Lins and Heritins,
- 9:51there could hardly be any need to take on debt.
- 9:54This is what I mean.
- 9:55If you've got that much cash, like, yeah, come on.
- 9:59In 2004, the frugal couple had settled into an easy going life
- 10:04as they became grandparents.
- 10:06Oh, I know.
- 10:08Now, a comfortable retirement was the only item left
- 10:12to be ticked off the list at this stage in their lives.
- 10:15I know.
- 10:18However, the events of February 6, 2009
- 10:22brought any plans for their upcoming golden years
- 10:25to a screeching halt.
- 10:29Lynn was taken to the Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health
- 10:33Center for Treatment of the Injuries.
- 10:35She had sustained from a roughly 19-footfall.
- 10:39She would go on to explain that she and her husband
- 10:42had been meeting a prospective buyer of their boat.
- 10:47A man had responded to their ad on Craigslist
- 10:49for the $40,000 boat.
- 10:54Is that a lot for a boat?
- 10:55I mean, probably not.
- 10:56But I mean, anybody who's got 40 grand
- 10:59throw around on a boat.
- 11:01Right.
- 11:02I'm on a boat.
- 11:04I mean, that's just a lot of money to spend on anything.
- 11:07Maybe they have a million dollars, too.
- 11:12Who knows?
- 11:13Yeah.
- 11:14I'm just saying, they doing all right.
- 11:16That's a pretty nice boat.
- 11:18Yeah.
- 11:19I mean, I wouldn't spend $40 on a boat
- 11:23because I would just get sick all over it.
- 11:27Oh, yeah.
- 11:28You can't do-- you get like real motions, like real seasick, huh?
- 11:31Yeah, I do.
- 11:32No cruises and got hard news in my future.
- 11:36Oh my gosh.
- 11:37OK.
- 11:38I didn't decide to do a destination cruise wedding.
- 11:42Yeah.
- 11:43I wouldn't have been there.
- 11:44You're like, I'm going to have to regretfully decline.
- 11:47Yeah.
- 11:50When the couple had agreed to meet in person
- 11:53to discuss the potential sale, Lynn
- 11:55said that Jerry had opted to meet this person nearby,
- 12:00rather than having an unfamiliar individual head
- 12:03straight for the home that he shared with his wife.
- 12:06Most people do that.
- 12:07Yeah.
- 12:08It's a solid plan, certainly.
- 12:09It's just like a good rule of thumb
- 12:11to conduct this sort of business in public places.
- 12:16Yeah, but usually like a public place,
- 12:17like a parking lot of like a target or some shit.
- 12:20Yeah.
- 12:21Exactly.
- 12:21And where they live, it's a pretty rural area.
- 12:25I don't know how far they would have had to drive
- 12:27to get to a target.
- 12:27That's true.
- 12:28That's true.
- 12:29But yeah.
- 12:31But they were doing like the best that they could.
- 12:33They're coming to get us.
- 12:35That's like a fire truck, yeah?
- 12:36We had like four drive by the other night.
- 12:39I have no idea what happened.
- 12:41A fire.
- 12:43I don't think so.
- 12:44Fire's happened every day, Caitlin.
- 12:46They keep some in business.
- 12:47We talked about this.
- 12:50I mean, that's true.
- 12:51There was another like in a very short span,
- 12:55it was like five or six vehicles.
- 12:57Yeah.
- 12:57They had like a EMS vehicle.
- 13:00Yeah, it was not good.
- 13:01I hope everyone's okay.
- 13:03I don't know.
- 13:05Because I have no idea where they were headed.
- 13:07Miracles happen.
- 13:09Yeah.
- 13:10Like in the story you're about to tell us, right?
- 13:13Yep.
- 13:15So the boat was still at their home when they showed up
- 13:18at the agreed upon meeting place near Oxbow Park,
- 13:22which meet in public.
- 13:24But how are you going to go and meet with this person
- 13:27to talk to them about selling you a boat?
- 13:30But you don't have the boat?
- 13:33Doesn't that seem odd?
- 13:35Maybe you're showing them pictures?
- 13:38I guess, but that seems like what the Craigslist ad is for.
- 13:42Yeah.
- 13:43Yeah, because you think they'd want to see the boat, right?
- 13:46Right?
- 13:47And where they're planning maybe to purchase it that day,
- 13:49they would want to take it.
- 13:50I mean, possibly.
- 13:52Yeah.
- 13:53So I don't know if they were like, okay, well,
- 13:54if you're really interested, we'll take you back
- 13:57to the house.
- 13:58You can see it.
- 13:59We'll get the deal done.
- 14:01Maybe they couldn't like tow the boat.
- 14:03So they wanted to like meet this person, and then they would
- 14:06come back to the house and tow it away or something.
- 14:08They definitely had towing capacity of some sort,
- 14:12because you had-- I mean, if you own a boat, you have to.
- 14:15And it was Jerry's truck that they took out
- 14:18to meet with this guy.
- 14:20I don't know.
- 14:20I'm just saying, I have sold exactly zero boats,
- 14:24but I would think that like, you got to have the boat
- 14:28when you meet the guy about the boat.
- 14:29Yeah.
- 14:31Probably.
- 14:32I don't know.
- 14:34The men had intended to fish in the sandy river
- 14:37and discuss the potential sail.
- 14:40Again, how you're going to do that without the boat?
- 14:44From the shore?
- 14:45Fishing from the shore?
- 14:46Sure, fishing.
- 14:48But why are you doing that if you're specifically meeting
- 14:51somebody to talk about buying their fishing boat?
- 14:54I don't know.
- 14:55Well, you didn't mention it was a fishing boat.
- 14:57Yeah.
- 14:58I thought speedboat.
- 15:00No.
- 15:00I can't fish on a speed boat.
- 15:01I'm feeling a speed boat.
- 15:02It was like a fishing boat.
- 15:04Because you know, I'm a pro fisherman and you can't fish
- 15:09from a speeding boat.
- 15:10Yeah, that's true.
- 15:11A speeding boat.
- 15:12I'm not eating boat.
- 15:15God.
- 15:16Clearly, I'm no expert.
- 15:19I know a lot about boats.
- 15:22Only what I had to read for this story, but the speed boats.
- 15:28Yeah.
- 15:29When I turned out unbeknownst to either Lynn or her husband,
- 15:33a second man had shown up with the potential buyer.
- 15:38Jerry exited their vehicle heading in the direction of a small
- 15:42trail near the water's edge.
- 15:46Meanwhile, Lynn waited in their truck.
- 15:49When she exited the vehicle, some minutes later, presumably
- 15:53wondering what was taking Jerry so long, she quickly realized
- 15:57she hadn't been alone.
- 16:00Jerry warned her to run and Lynn took off, but noticed the man
- 16:04who had been watching her as she'd waited in their vehicle
- 16:08had brandished a gun and was now chasing her.
- 16:12Oh, that, no, that's not good.
- 16:16No.
- 16:17I have questions.
- 16:18OK.
- 16:19You said they were planning to fish and talk, and she was
- 16:22planning to just sit in the car the whole time?
- 16:24I thought that was weird, too, right?
- 16:27I mean, I guess--
- 16:28Is it fishing kind of a whole day activity?
- 16:31Right, sorta.
- 16:33I would think so.
- 16:34But I guess I wouldn't want to fish either,
- 16:36so maybe I'd want to sit in the car and read a book.
- 16:38I don't know.
- 16:38Yes.
- 16:39But why did she even need to go?
- 16:41Yeah.
- 16:42Because they don't have the boat, so it's not
- 16:43like he needed help with the boat.
- 16:45Anyways, I think I'm really glad to see that we're
- 16:49picking up on some of the same details that just go like,
- 16:54Huh?
- 16:55Huh.
- 16:56OK.
- 16:57I'm confused.
- 16:57I don't know.
- 16:58Maybe there's something about boats that I just don't know.
- 17:02Boat experts out there.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:04Let us know.
- 17:05You email us that.
- 17:07You know, you'll have to know how much I'd say it's a Gmail.com.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:10Do you have a boat and ghost in story?
- 17:12Ooh.
- 17:13Or a true crimey story?
- 17:14Hopefully not.
- 17:15But--
- 17:15Yeah, I mean, well, you know, boating.
- 17:17You could get into all kinds of shenanigans.
- 17:20Any witchy boaters out there?
- 17:21Witchy boaters.
- 17:23You know, if there was a witchy-ass boat,
- 17:25I might go on it.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:27And risk the sea sickness.
- 17:29Yeah.
- 17:30You're totally--
- 17:31Because there's probably some like spells and charms on it to, you know--
- 17:33Totally.
- 17:34Like get rid of sea sickness anyway.
- 17:36Yeah.
- 17:37There's got to be a charm to that.
- 17:39Yeah.
- 17:40Absolutely.
- 17:41OK.
- 17:42OK.
- 17:43I'm glad we have this.
- 17:44A chance to have this chance.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:46Yeah.
- 17:47Yeah.
- 17:48Yeah.
- 17:49It didn't take long for him to catch up to her.
- 17:50Snarling her backpack in his clutches, he sent her tumbling over the side of the Gordon
- 17:55Creek Bridge.
- 17:56Jesus.
- 17:57While Lin's injuries from the bizarre attack were being treated in the hospital, some sources
- 18:04refer to it as a fractured pelvis or broken hip.
- 18:09No.
- 18:10Yeah.
- 18:11And a broken rib.
- 18:14Police attempted to piece together what had happened to Jerry in the interim and why
- 18:18someone might perpetrate such a brutal attack on the couple.
- 18:23Because the whole thing is just very strange.
- 18:27Like, OK, fine.
- 18:28You don't have to buy the boat.
- 18:29Like, you don't got to beat us up.
- 18:32Yeah.
- 18:33I mean, unless it's like a crazy serial killer who just like goes on Craigslist trying to buy
- 18:38boats and then killing people, I don't know.
- 18:40Yeah.
- 18:41There was kind of a little part of me that said like, mm, I mean, wouldn't be the first time
- 18:46we'd heard that, right?
- 18:47Yeah.
- 18:48That's why you meet in a public place.
- 18:50Yes.
- 18:51Exactly.
- 18:52Exactly.
- 18:53They were far from elderly, but who would attack these nice grandparents?
- 18:59As she's recovering in a hospital bed, eventually, Lynn is able to provide some additional details
- 19:05about the events of that day.
- 19:08According to her statement to police, they left the house around 620, 630 to meet with
- 19:14a buyer whose name was Dave.
- 19:16Reportedly.
- 19:19In the evening or the morning?
- 19:21The morning.
- 19:22OK.
- 19:23It's February, so it would have already been like dark.
- 19:26Yeah.
- 19:27I didn't write it down, but then when I, when I was rereading my notes later, I was like,
- 19:31it wouldn't have been PM, it would have been dark.
- 19:33Yeah.
- 19:34Yeah.
- 19:35Also, that's really early.
- 19:36Yes.
- 19:37Pretty early.
- 19:38But that's like part of the whole fishing time.
- 19:39Yeah.
- 19:40I think fishing is usually even earlier than that.
- 19:43Yeah.
- 19:44Before, some like more am or something.
- 19:46Yeah.
- 19:47It was, you know, fishing experts.
- 19:50Cus fishing.
- 19:51We are.
- 19:52Cus fishing, guys.
- 19:54OK.
- 19:55It took over a half hour for someone to spot her and stop to assist following the attack.
- 20:03Over an hour?
- 20:04Over a half hour is what she said, but still, like those are 30 of the longest minutes of
- 20:09your life.
- 20:10Yeah.
- 20:11Both of the unknown assailants were white males.
- 20:15They then believed Dave to be in his 40s with a medium build, roughly 5, 8, 5, 9 in height
- 20:22with brown hair.
- 20:24So basically any dude, the other unnamed suspect was closer to about six feet tall with brown
- 20:34hair and a stockier build, which is interesting to me because I would think of someone who's
- 20:405, 8 or 5, 9 is having a stocky build.
- 20:42Right.
- 20:43You know, does that mean they're
- 20:45just like thick or thick?
- 20:47Or so they kind of look like thick with two seas.
- 20:49OK.
- 20:50Yeah.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:52Since they didn't have the boat with them and the couple's truck wasn't stolen, the investigators
- 21:00were a bit stumped when it came to motive.
- 21:02Because if you're going to try to steal a boat and the people show up without a boat, kind
- 21:07of boils your plans.
- 21:08Let me just push someone down and then...
- 21:10Yeah.
- 21:11And I'd...
- 21:12Yeah.
- 21:13Not really sure.
- 21:14A forensic sketch artist created composites of the suspects, which were then released
- 21:22to the public in the hopes that someone might be able to identify them.
- 21:27The search team by the scene at the water came up empty.
- 21:31Tracking dogs didn't produce anything in the area either.
- 21:37One of the Corbett Firemen who responded to the scene and assisted in the care of Lynn
- 21:42did have information to add about what she'd said when he'd accompanied her to the hospital.
- 21:49OK.
- 21:50She had told him that Jerry had to run in with someone the week prior and believed it may
- 21:57have been one of the men involved in the attack.
- 22:01Hmm.
- 22:02I have a theory now.
- 22:03Oh, do you?
- 22:04That's OK.
- 22:05I'll keep it to myself.
- 22:06All right.
- 22:07Yeah.
- 22:08Keep it simmering.
- 22:09Detectives worked diligently on developing a timeline of the day of the crime, as well
- 22:14as recent events and whereabouts surrounding the days leading up to the attack.
- 22:21Jerry was known to speak his mind and could often be quick to anger, and investigators wanted
- 22:27to explore the possibility that this may have motivated someone to carry out a violent
- 22:33attack against him and his wife.
- 22:35Hmm.
- 22:37During the time leading up to the attack, it seemed that Jerry's behavior was essentially
- 22:42normal.
- 22:44He'd maintained a fairly typical routine.
- 22:48Lynn said that Jerry had taken hay up to click attack to feed their cows on that particular
- 22:54property.
- 22:56He spent the night on February 4th and returned the next day before noon, according to his
- 23:01wife.
- 23:03The Hood River Access toll bridge sits on the border of two neighboring states, and
- 23:10surveillance cameras would be able to show Jerry in his truck passing between Oregon
- 23:15and Washington states.
- 23:17However, there was no sign of Jerry's pickup truck on the day Lynn said he'd been up to
- 23:24their property in Washington.
- 23:26Oh, OK.
- 23:29Maybe he took a different road.
- 23:31I know, thanks.
- 23:35Investigators were left wondering whether there may have been people or places Jerry visited
- 23:41that he didn't share with his wife.
- 23:43Oh.
- 23:44Oh.
- 23:45Oh.
- 23:46When questioned, Lynn denied the possibility of infidelity on either side of the marriage.
- 23:53How quick was she to say no to that?
- 23:55At pretty quick.
- 23:56Pretty quick.
- 23:57Pretty quick.
- 23:58Yeah, she had some very expressive statements.
- 24:06I mean, if your husband's missing, he's missing, right?
- 24:10Presum missing at this point.
- 24:12You don't want to think that if you're, if all is what it seems to be, I think maybe I
- 24:17would react that way to like no, of course he wouldn't, you know.
- 24:21Well, thank you would react the way that Lynn did though, because like I said, expressive
- 24:26is one way to play.
- 24:29How dare you imply?
- 24:30Yes.
- 24:31So, yeah, definitely expressive.
- 24:36More than 180 searchers spent five days looking for Jerry Stomps, but found no sign of the missing
- 24:45man.
- 24:46Oh.
- 24:48Detectives executed a search warrant on their cluttered home.
- 24:53Despite the obvious disarray in some areas of the home, others appeared to be absolutely
- 24:59spotless.
- 25:00Hmm.
- 25:01A fanny pack was located on the coat rack by the front door.
- 25:06In it was a revolver.
- 25:08Uh-huh.
- 25:09Yeah.
- 25:10No, a fanny pack.
- 25:11Uh-huh.
- 25:12We really just went from zero to gun.
- 25:14Wow.
- 25:15Yeah.
- 25:16Fanny pack gun.
- 25:17Yep.
- 25:18If Jerry was so concerned about meeting with strangers and was also known to take his
- 25:22gun everywhere, why would he have left it at home on the date in question?
- 25:30He takes his gun in a fanny pack everywhere.
- 25:32I guess.
- 25:33Or he takes it everywhere.
- 25:34I don't know if it's always in the fanny pack.
- 25:36I want to think so.
- 25:37Yeah.
- 25:39The gun appeared to have a very fine mist sprayed on it.
- 25:44What?
- 25:46Upon closer inspection, the strange spray of liquid appeared to be blood.
- 25:52The Oregon State Crime Lab examined the gun in order to determine whether the sample was
- 25:57animal or human.
- 26:00And I may not know a ton about guns.
- 26:03Um, I really don't.
- 26:06But I'd be awfully surprised to hear that someone like Jerry, who certainly was, used to
- 26:11be a revolver in a hunting application.
- 26:15Yeah.
- 26:16I mean, like, didn't clean it.
- 26:17Yeah.
- 26:18And since he was also the type of guy who gave bare hunting seminars in his local community.
- 26:26This dude wasn't taken a 22 out to the woods.
- 26:29Damn.
- 26:30Haven't we talked about like bare hunting recently?
- 26:34Have we?
- 26:35I don't know.
- 26:36I feel like we like a bare hunting somehow got mentioned and one.
- 26:39Maintain one of your other episodes.
- 26:41Might have been.
- 26:42Oh my gosh.
- 26:43I don't know.
- 26:44I'm trying to think of what that would have been, but like bare hunting.
- 26:48Yeah, bare hunting.
- 26:50And I don't know if you've seen the revenant, but it typically doesn't end well for people
- 26:55that go up against bears with underpowered firearms.
- 26:58No, especially not if you're really an order to capture.
- 27:01I know.
- 27:02My God.
- 27:03I thought I'm moving the theater.
- 27:05That was intense.
- 27:06Yeah.
- 27:07I'm glad I watched it in the privacy of my own home because the faces and the sounds that
- 27:11I made surely were almost diswarifying as watching the film itself.
- 27:17So unless he came across a horse trailer that had been overturned on the side of the road
- 27:22and channeled his inner dutton or some other similar scenario where he needed to put an
- 27:30animal down as an act of mercy, my money is on human blood.
- 27:35Yeah.
- 27:36Yeah.
- 27:37Yeah.
- 27:38You have never watched Yellowstone have you?
- 27:42No, I was going to say you made a reference.
- 27:44I don't understand.
- 27:45Yeah.
- 27:46I'm sorry.
- 27:47God damn it.
- 27:48It's Kevin Cosmer.
- 27:49It's best.
- 27:50I don't like him.
- 27:52Oh my God.
- 27:53I don't even know who you are.
- 28:00You guys, we have something really exciting to share with you.
- 28:03Let's hear a few words from our new pod besties.
- 28:08Hello twisted humans.
- 28:10Do you find yourself wanting to know more about the latest murder?
- 28:14Conspiracy?
- 28:15Cult?
- 28:16Or haunting?
- 28:17Then this is the podcast for you.
- 28:19We're bringing the most intense stories that will keep you up at night.
- 28:23He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and philonia's assault, but he was only sentenced
- 28:31to five months of probation and this would be the last time that anyone ever saw fear.
- 28:37There are allegedly two women who also drowned in the first month's school.
- 28:42Is this the same glowing green they'd seen in the darkness the night before?
- 28:46He had refused to sit near the wagon cloth because of stains on it, which were most likely
- 28:53blood.
- 28:54Join us every Tuesday for a glass of wine or sangria and a dose of true crime.
- 29:00I'm Alicia.
- 29:01And I'm Sierra and this is twisted and un-court.
- 29:06Check them out creepy people.
- 29:09Their info is in our show notes.
- 29:11Meanwhile, as human search efforts continued around the Gordon Creek Bridge and nearby
- 29:18areas, scent dogs were brought out to the property to explore some areas with freshly disturbed
- 29:26ground in the front yard of the property in the front yard.
- 29:31But they seemingly had no interest in those dirt piles.
- 29:36Yes.
- 29:37Dogs were like, I don't know, man, that just looks like dirt.
- 29:41Were they can ever dogs?
- 29:43Or just dogs sniffing like the scent of the human?
- 29:47I think they, they said specifically scent dogs and I think they're more stereotypically
- 29:53trained to catch the scent of an individual, but like if they catch the scent and that
- 29:59person's dead, they would alert.
- 30:03Okay.
- 30:04And as if they caught their scent just from like an item of clothing or kind of wondering,
- 30:10does your scent change after you die?
- 30:12Yeah, you smelt dead.
- 30:14Well, but like to dog, I was wondering like if dogs like does it change?
- 30:19I don't know.
- 30:20Yeah.
- 30:21It's an interesting kind of thought, but it's, I don't want to know.
- 30:31The organizer of a local search and rescue group had taken his German shepherd around the
- 30:36outside of the couple's house where the dog did eventually lead to an interesting discovery.
- 30:44While the dog didn't outright alert, it showed great interest in a large burn pile.
- 30:52Oh.
- 30:54Okay.
- 30:56How you feeling about your theory right now?
- 30:58Pretty good.
- 30:59Okay.
- 31:00Feeling good about it?
- 31:01Yeah.
- 31:02The dog's owner said he had a hard time getting his dog away from the area and noted that burned
- 31:08petroleum products can make it difficult for canines to smell.
- 31:13So he may not have alerted because he couldn't really tell for sure if he's smelling what
- 31:21he thinks he's smelling.
- 31:23That's my takeaway.
- 31:25Yeah.
- 31:26So, I think it's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the story of the
- 31:35animal.
- 31:36I think it's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 31:40It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 31:44It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 31:49It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 31:53It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 32:03It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 32:06It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 32:11It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 32:15It's a very good idea to have a very good understanding of the animal.
- 32:19They who totally exist, who responded to their Craigslist ad.
- 32:23However, the limb line did not reflect calls from a mysterious Dave as Lynn had stated,
- 32:32"How did they set up this meeting then if they didn't communicate?"
- 32:35They write each other letters.
- 32:36You know they might have, but you know they would have used the wax seals.
- 32:42They were able to determine that no one had spoken to Jerry since prior to the Super
- 32:47Ball.
- 32:48Oh, that was like a couple of weeks before this.
- 32:53That year, I didn't look up the specific date, but that it accounts for roughly about a week.
- 32:59I was trying to quickly remember the date that you had said in February.
- 33:04February 6th is when this all happens, supposedly on the Gordon Creek Bridge.
- 33:10Yeah.
- 33:11A new theory was developing in the case.
- 33:15The investigators began to suspect that sometime between January 30th and roughly early February,
- 33:23that Lynn had murdered Jerry, dismembered his body, and then burned the remains in an
- 33:28effort to cover up her crime.
- 33:32During that time, Lynn babysat the couple's two young grandchildren, one of whom remembered
- 33:40asking where Grandpa was.
- 33:43The couple's sons were initially supportive of their mother as the trial got underway because
- 33:51spoiler alert, this is going to go trial.
- 33:54However, as time went on and they learned about the gun in the Fanny Pack by the door, they
- 34:00were quickly convinced that unfortunately their mom was like, "Prop's off-skill to you
- 34:08of the crime of which she was accused."
- 34:11Yep.
- 34:12Jason said his father had even taken the gun to church.
- 34:18So that's where Lynn's story completely fell apart in their eyes.
- 34:22Yeah.
- 34:23Jerry also didn't have his wallet on him.
- 34:26Okay.
- 34:29Medical professionals were able to point to another irregularity.
- 34:36Lynn did not arrive to the hospital with numerous bruises and scratches, as one might
- 34:40expect.
- 34:41Hmm.
- 34:42There were generally very few indications of physical injury that were consistent with the
- 34:50type of struggle that she had described.
- 34:54Hmm.
- 34:55Another damning detail that came to light by way of statements made by Richard, their
- 35:01renter on the property, he said he had seen smoke coming from the burn pit recently.
- 35:10And obviously that directly conflicted with everything that Lynn was saying because Lynn
- 35:17denied having recently utilized the burn pit.
- 35:21Yeah.
- 35:22Of course she did.
- 35:23Did they catch her going over the bridge on that camera?
- 35:27Not that I was able to find in any of the court records or any, you know, "Huh.
- 35:33Yeah."
- 35:34Interesting.
- 35:35While some of this may have initially been easily dismissed as circumstantial by Lynn's
- 35:42supporters, the mitochondrial DNA of the bones and the blood on the revolver were tested
- 35:51against Jerry's and proved to be a match.
- 35:54Oh.
- 35:55So the blood on the gun in the fanny pack by their front door on the coat rack and the bones
- 36:02that were being burned on their property.
- 36:06It matched.
- 36:07I mean, I like assumed that they would, but yeah.
- 36:11I'm hoping that you were going to say no.
- 36:13Yeah.
- 36:14I mean, the bear theory was a pretty good one.
- 36:16He's bear hunter.
- 36:17Yeah.
- 36:18Good to be.
- 36:19Those are big bones.
- 36:20Yes.
- 36:21Cooking the bear meat, eating it.
- 36:22You don't waste it.
- 36:23Yeah.
- 36:24Do people eat bear meat?
- 36:25Yeah.
- 36:26I mean, I would think so.
- 36:28I don't know what the legality is depending on like the type of bear because I would assume
- 36:35probably there are some types of bears that are protected.
- 36:39You know, they may be close to extinction or, you know, just already over hunted.
- 36:46Yeah.
- 36:47That makes sense.
- 36:48Yeah.
- 36:49I don't know.
- 36:50Should have looked deeper into the bear thing.
- 36:52You should have.
- 36:53Yeah.
- 36:54How could you have known?
- 36:55You know, all I saw was the one newspaper notice about Jerry giving a seminar about bear
- 37:02hunting.
- 37:03And I just didn't know what a major role it was going to play in this case.
- 37:06You never know what I'm going to latch on to.
- 37:08You really tell us.
- 37:10Lynn, well, she was still recovering in the hospital from the injuries detectives now
- 37:16believed to be self-inflicted when she was arrested.
- 37:20Mm-hmm.
- 37:21When she was arrested, they literally, there are pictures of her in her hospital bed.
- 37:25And it's like her mugshot.
- 37:29Her mugshot is in her hospital bed.
- 37:32And you can totally tell.
- 37:34Holy shit.
- 37:35I didn't know they did that.
- 37:37Yeah.
- 37:38They for sure do that because they're like, hmm, listen, right now she's got this whole
- 37:42like broken body situation.
- 37:45But if she decides to book it, I was going to say, didn't you say her pelvis and her ribs
- 37:50were broken?
- 37:51Yeah, so it was described either as her having a broken hip or a broken pelvis and then yes,
- 37:59also additionally a broken rib.
- 38:02So she actually did have some like pretty serious injuries.
- 38:05She did.
- 38:06But they were.
- 38:07And the theory of Wulgitha.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:11Nope.
- 38:12She for sure actually broke these bones, but she faced three charges, murder, abuse,
- 38:21of a corpse in the first degree, both felonies and the misdemeanor charge of initiating a false
- 38:29report.
- 38:30Got to throw anything again in there.
- 38:33I mean, yeah, they kind of do.
- 38:36At her arrangement, she pled not guilty to all three of the charges.
- 38:41Pre trial, the judge suppressed any statements she made while undergoing treatment at the hospital,
- 38:47which was a super hot debate.
- 38:51But the long and the short of it is basically that defense council was saying like, you guys
- 38:56like she was in pretty extreme pain.
- 38:59She started having drugs pumped into her.
- 39:03Like none of what she said should be admissible in this case.
- 39:06Yeah.
- 39:07And the judge was like, it's kind of a pain in the ass, but like true.
- 39:11Yeah.
- 39:12I mean, was she being like, well, I guess she was probably being like formally questioned.
- 39:16Well, yeah, they were doing so under like, it was a totally different context.
- 39:23Because she was like, because she was for a crime.
- 39:26Right.
- 39:27I mean, she was being, she was being interviewed as the victim.
- 39:34Yeah.
- 39:35Versus now, you know, if they knew going in that she had been, you know, potentially a perpetrator,
- 39:41obviously, they probably would have, it probably would have been a little bit different.
- 39:45Yeah.
- 39:46You would have gone down a little bit different.
- 39:47She wouldn't need a lawyer.
- 39:49Yeah.
- 39:50Yeah.
- 39:51But the judge allowed in the physical evidence found during the search that Lynn had allowed
- 39:57of their property.
- 39:58Because the lesser two charges would later be dismissed, though she was denied bail prior
- 40:06to trial.
- 40:07Which like, okay, even if she had bail, it kind of seems like it was going to take her
- 40:14three or four minutes to be like up to moving around and doing anything.
- 40:18Yeah.
- 40:19You know what I mean?
- 40:20I don't know.
- 40:22Then shortly before her trial was to begin, Richard, the couple's render died of an apparent
- 40:30suicide.
- 40:34Jesus.
- 40:37It was ruled that his statements regarding the burn pile and seeing smoke on the property
- 40:42could not be shared at trial posthumously.
- 40:47Because he died?
- 40:49Why?
- 40:51He wasn't there to testify to it anymore.
- 40:53Oh, but oh, I see.
- 40:55Yeah.
- 40:56But they couldn't take a statement still like.
- 41:00I know I thought that seemed a little bit odd as well, but despite how sus this looks, he
- 41:07did have a history of depression as well as a previous suicide attempt.
- 41:11And based on the evidence found when his death was discovered, detectives were really confident
- 41:17that this was a suicide rather than a homicide intended to quiet a witness.
- 41:24Yeah.
- 41:25The good news is that another nearby neighbor was able to be called to testify to witnessing
- 41:31the very same smoke coming from the burn pile on the property.
- 41:35Okay.
- 41:36No.
- 41:37At least someone else saw it.
- 41:39Exactly.
- 41:40It's really sad, though.
- 41:41It was not awful.
- 41:42Yeah, I mean, a lot of people were like, "That looks super scared."
- 41:47But she was in custody, right?
- 41:51Right.
- 41:52Not to say that she couldn't have had somebody else.
- 41:55That's true.
- 41:56Yeah.
- 41:57Doesn't seem like she did.
- 41:59Yeah.
- 42:00I was going to say, are you going to tell us that she had to help with the first one?
- 42:05That would be really interesting, wouldn't it?
- 42:08I guess we'll see.
- 42:11Lins trial got underway in January of 2011.
- 42:15So this is almost two years after.
- 42:17Wow.
- 42:18It's crazy.
- 42:20And it lasted just a couple of weeks.
- 42:23So goddamn, I thought it's not the classic example of hurry up and wait.
- 42:28It's like two years to get there and then it only takes a couple of weeks.
- 42:33The prosecutor explained that they believed Lins had injured herself on a walking trail
- 42:39near the Sandy River while attempting to plant evidence that Jerry was swept away
- 42:45by the river in a fishing accident.
- 42:48Oh.
- 42:49Yeah.
- 42:50Okay.
- 42:51She had to scramble up.
- 42:56Try to get herself some help and that's where this cockamimi story about trying to
- 43:01sell the boat and these mysterious Dave and yeah.
- 43:07She had to come up with that one real fast because they're playing me, playing me.
- 43:11Yeah.
- 43:12I felt a cliff.
- 43:13That's like really funny though, to be trying to do a crime and then you fall off a cliff.
- 43:21Yeah.
- 43:22Or a bridge or maybe you just stub your fucking toe so badly.
- 43:25No.
- 43:26I don't know.
- 43:27I don't know why I keep thinking cliff because like calling up a bridge seems kind of hard
- 43:31to do.
- 43:32Yeah.
- 43:33Well, no exactly.
- 43:34I think their point was that she probably didn't actually fall off the bridge.
- 43:41It was probably some other way that not quite as extreme of an example, but like that's
- 43:47how she was out and about in the wilderness and like who knows.
- 43:51Maybe she tripped over a log and like the way she landed like cracked her bone.
- 43:57Damn.
- 43:58I mean, she has a grandma.
- 44:01Well, exactly.
- 44:02Yeah.
- 44:03I'm gonna take care of them hips, you know.
- 44:06Yeah.
- 44:07Furthermore, the investigation had uncovered several thousand dollars she had lent to their
- 44:13son Jason as well as over fifty thousand dollars in debt that she had accrued.
- 44:22All of this without Jerry's knowledge.
- 44:24But you know how he feels about that.
- 44:29Yeah.
- 44:30That's a lot of debt.
- 44:31It's a little too of debt.
- 44:32Yeah.
- 44:33And then, you know, lending money to the son.
- 44:35I don't know if he would have been against that necessarily, but I would like to think that
- 44:42probably because he had such a strong minded, you know, perspective on debt that he probably
- 44:49would have been like, this is not a good thing to be doing.
- 44:52You know, don't encourage our son to like take on debt or not be financially responsible.
- 44:57Yeah.
- 44:58But who knows.
- 45:01The jury was said to have deliberated for five hours before she was found guilty on January
- 45:0824th, 2011, her sentencing following the next day.
- 45:14She received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
- 45:21So it was also hit with a financial assessment that came in at a total of sixteen thousand
- 45:27one hundred thirty six dollars and eighty eight cents.
- 45:32To date, there are payments and credits totaling nine hundred eighty six dollars and eighty
- 45:38three cents that have been applied to the debt.
- 45:42Sadly, though Jason inherited roughly a hundred and ninety thousand dollars from his parents
- 45:49of the state, once he had paid outstanding bills, it actually left him in a pretty rough spot
- 45:55financially.
- 45:56Oh, no.
- 45:57Yeah, that's not fair.
- 46:01I know.
- 46:03Both of the couple's sons intended to give victim impact statements, but Jason got pretty
- 46:08choked up and he ended up deciding that he couldn't move forward with what he had planned
- 46:15to say.
- 46:17Some however had no problem delivering some very harsh words to Lynn.
- 46:23It was a C-Snap.
- 46:24Good.
- 46:25I just thought how ironic that in the end she's still left with a mountain of debt rather
- 46:33than living the high life as the queen of their shared estate.
- 46:38And that's why I put in the stuff about her financial assessment and how little of it has
- 46:44been paid today.
- 46:45It's just like...
- 46:46Like what?
- 46:47Like you had it all.
- 46:51Yeah.
- 46:52But I mean, you know, I guess you don't really know what went on in their life and their marriage
- 46:56and you know, probably wasn't an angel, you know?
- 47:01Yeah.
- 47:02Not that he deserved to die, obviously.
- 47:03No.
- 47:04No, but you know.
- 47:05I would never say that.
- 47:06A lot of people felt like, you know, they kind of, they danced around it, but it seemed
- 47:12like some people thought that, you know, Jerry was kind of a dick.
- 47:15But, Mel, the control wafting off of it.
- 47:19Yeah, a little bit, but, you know, I think ultimately it seemed like he wanted the best for
- 47:26his family.
- 47:28And I've heard kind of through the course of research some different things about like
- 47:34how it was that Lynn got into that crazy amount of debt after she inherited like over a million
- 47:42dollars.
- 47:43Yeah.
- 47:44And the math ain't math in just, it just makes me think of like there was stuff that she
- 47:50wanted that she like wasn't allowed to get it.
- 47:52Oh, yeah.
- 47:53Just like people just leave.
- 47:56Yeah.
- 47:57Isn't it her money?
- 47:58I guess if you're married, maybe you would have to split it.
- 48:00Yeah, maybe, but like half of something is better than having $15,000 in debt to the state
- 48:08while you rotten prison.
- 48:10Yeah.
- 48:11Like you're never going to get away with it.
- 48:14I just, yeah, I mean, certainly not if you left the bloody gun in your house, you didn't
- 48:22even try to clean it.
- 48:25Yeah.
- 48:27Not exactly sure how that was supposed to work.
- 48:30Yeah.
- 48:31Like how do you burn, you burned a body, but you left the smoking gun in your house.
- 48:37And you really didn't burn the body.
- 48:41Like if you want to get rid of all of the evidence from that person's remains, like it
- 48:50is very difficult to burn a body.
- 48:53And that is why people that choose that mode are so frequently caught because they think
- 48:59they've burned the body.
- 49:00But those are charred bones and they were able to get mitochondrial DNA samples to match
- 49:09it.
- 49:10Like if they can find fucking carpet fibers, they can find pieces of bone.
- 49:17Yeah.
- 49:18Okay.
- 49:19Yeah.
- 49:20And I don't know.
- 49:21Maybe she just thought like who knows?
- 49:22I didn't watch CSI.
- 49:24No, no, I don't think so.
- 49:26Or maybe she really thought she could pass that off.
- 49:28And she was like, oh yeah, those are, you know, it's bones from one of his hunting trips.
- 49:33Well, why are you burning animal bones?
- 49:36I don't know.
- 49:37I just none of it makes any sense.
- 49:41It doesn't.
- 49:42Yeah.
- 49:43And she let them search the house knowing that the gun wasn't there.
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:48I mean, unless she forgot, like there's like, senility isn't a defense though.
- 49:54So yeah.
- 49:55Yeah.
- 49:56It doesn't really matter.
- 49:57That's just, it's just weird.
- 49:59Yeah.
- 50:00It's very strange.
- 50:02Yeah.
- 50:03Maybe her plan was to grow to prison because she wasn't so much dead and she was like, well,
- 50:07I don't know.
- 50:08I don't know.
- 50:09I don't know.
- 50:10I don't know.
- 50:12I, you know, it's interesting because I feel like even the two men that came to her rescue
- 50:19from the roadside, they were like, yes, stuff just didn't add up about her story, like
- 50:24right off the bat.
- 50:26And they testified in court to that.
- 50:28Well, yeah.
- 50:30I mean, she couldn't even fool her own family either.
- 50:35Like her son's pretty quickly came to the conclusion like, our mother did this because
- 50:41some of what was being said or some of the evidence that was being shared, it just, it
- 50:46didn't make any sense.
- 50:47Jesus.
- 50:49Well.
- 50:50Should we do some tarot?
- 50:53Let's do some tarot.
- 50:54Do you think they'll make us feel better?
- 50:56I think a little bit.
- 50:57Okay.
- 50:58I mean, I won't get rid of it all, but couldn't hurt.
- 51:01Yeah.
- 51:02Couldn't hurt.
- 51:03Yeah.
- 51:04Okay.
- 51:05Do you think?
- 51:06All right.
- 51:07Do your witchy tarot thing.
- 51:08I think we're feeling like that area.
- 51:15Yeah.
- 51:16Yeah.
- 51:17Oh.
- 51:18Oh.
- 51:19What is it?
- 51:20What does it?
- 51:21Oh.
- 51:28Oh my gosh.
- 51:29We got the magician.
- 51:31Interesting.
- 51:32Okay.
- 51:33Got the magician in Ravas.
- 51:34Oh, we got it in reverse.
- 51:35Okay.
- 51:36Okay.
- 51:37The magician.
- 51:38You didn't light your crystals on fire.
- 51:42No.
- 51:43Cause I mean, they're going to drip wax everywhere.
- 51:47That'll be like a special setup.
- 51:50Do we even have any actual crystals on the altar?
- 51:53I don't think so.
- 51:54Not this time.
- 51:55What is wrong with you?
- 51:56I mean, a lot of things.
- 51:58We need at least one.
- 52:00I mean, we have our crystals.
- 52:05We have crystals.
- 52:06Okay.
- 52:07I'm wearing our crystals.
- 52:09Oh, there you go.
- 52:10Me too.
- 52:11I have a story about these.
- 52:12I can tell you later.
- 52:13Okay.
- 52:14Okay.
- 52:15Okay.
- 52:22Okay.
- 52:29Okay.
- 52:30Okay.
- 52:31Our key words are hidden power, magical ability, mastering unseen forces and inner guidance.
- 52:34A powerful and wise figure.
- 52:36The magician represents the ability to understand and command the unseen forces that operate in the universe.
- 52:44The magicians' knowledge enables him to manipulate the material world by aligning it with the spiritual
- 53:07plane so he can create the circumstances he desires.
- 53:12Huh.
- 53:13Sounds like someone did in a negative way though.
- 53:17Oh, possibly.
- 53:18Like manipulating things to look like something else.
- 53:22Yeah.
- 53:23It says, "That's what you do when you cast a spell."
- 53:27That's the essence of magic.
- 53:31When the magician shows up in a reading, he indicates you have special powers, but you
- 53:36may not realize them yet or you may not be using your powers.
- 53:42Use your intellect, intuition, and talents as well as practical skills to manifest your
- 53:48dreams.
- 53:49The magician reminds you that you're constantly creating your reality and that your thoughts
- 53:55are the four runners of manifestation.
- 53:58Yeah.
- 53:59So if your thoughts are all negative, you're going to manifest the negative shit.
- 54:02Yeah.
- 54:03That makes sense.
- 54:05He can represent your inner guide who, if you listen carefully, will help you fulfill
- 54:10your potential.
- 54:12Someone needed this card before she killed her husband.
- 54:15Probably.
- 54:16Extra exuberant.
- 54:19Magic is believing in yourself.
- 54:21If you can do that, you can make anything happen.
- 54:26Someone didn't believe in themselves.
- 54:28Yeah.
- 54:29Themself?
- 54:30You know what?
- 54:31I know because probably don't believe in yourself killing people.
- 54:36Oh, I meant like she didn't believe she could like leave him and go out on her own and
- 54:41your own thing instead of had to get rid of them.
- 54:46Yeah.
- 54:47Yeah.
- 54:48Okay.
- 54:50The magician reverse suggests you may be experiencing self-doubt or you can't yet see
- 54:56the way clearly.
- 55:01Perhaps you haven't fully developed the skills, knowledge or confidence you need to take
- 55:03on a challenge or to follow the course you've chosen.
- 55:09Continue strengthening your latent power and wait until the time is ripe.
- 55:15Sometimes the magician reverse can indicate your energy is too low now to accomplish your
- 55:20objective.
- 55:22Interesting.
- 55:25In a reading about money, the reversed magician can represent manipulation or using underhanded
- 55:32means for personal gains.
- 55:34Yeah.
- 55:37Power struggles or deception may cause losses or setbacks.
- 55:42No shit.
- 55:43Yikes.
- 55:44A lot of loss.
- 55:45Yeah.
- 55:46If the reading is about your job, watch your back.
- 55:50Someone may be working behind the scenes to gain power or control.
- 55:54This card can also suggest hidden factors in your workplace that you're not aware of yet.
- 56:01Remain watchful and play your cards close to your chest.
- 56:05Hmm.
- 56:06Oh God.
- 56:07I feel like it's going to be like the same type of thing with a loved one.
- 56:11Yeah, but it hits different.
- 56:15In a reading about love, you or a partner may be engaging in power struggles or manipulative
- 56:22behavior.
- 56:24This card can also represent deception or keeping secrets.
- 56:30In some cases, the reversed magician means you're lonely and tired of a solo existence.
- 56:36Oh, that's sad.
- 56:40Yeah.
- 56:41Hmm.
- 56:42Now she really has a solo existence.
- 56:46Yeah, you got that right.
- 56:48Was that it?
- 56:49Yeah, man.
- 56:50That's it.
- 56:51Wow, that was a good card.
- 56:52There's not a lot I can discuss.
- 56:54It was pretty straightforward.
- 56:56I know.
- 56:57I feel like we've never gotten the magician in reverse before.
- 57:01I don't think so.
- 57:02Yeah.
- 57:03I didn't know.
- 57:04It was totally negative.
- 57:07Like one of those opposite cards that is opposite in reverse.
- 57:11Yeah, it definitely seems more opposite than a lot of the cards can be where sometimes
- 57:18it's just a slightly different interpretation.
- 57:22Yeah.
- 57:23Well, that was short.
- 57:24Did you want me to tell my little story about my crystal bracelet?
- 57:27Yes.
- 57:28Unless you have anything else to...
- 57:30No, I think, discuss.
- 57:31I think that really tidies that up.
- 57:33I think, you know, story time.
- 57:35Let's do it.
- 57:36I peek at this one.
- 57:37Oh, she is kind of like in nature.
- 57:40It kind of looks like a cliff on the side.
- 57:42It does.
- 57:43Okay.
- 57:44I'm glad you kept feeling the cliff.
- 57:46I'm glad I looked at the card.
- 57:50Bracelet story time.
- 57:51Bracelet story time.
- 57:53So my mommy wanted to go through the veil with me so that we could get little matching bracelets,
- 58:00love it.
- 58:01And she really wanted tiger's eyes.
- 58:03So we're looking around.
- 58:04Really?
- 58:05Originally, we were just looking for crystals, not specifically for bracelet.
- 58:10And so we're looking for tiger's eyes.
- 58:12And she was like, well, they're only finding what she wanted.
- 58:14And then like made her way to the bracelets and we didn't see any tigers eye on the bracelet
- 58:20thing.
- 58:21So we pulled it out.
- 58:22And Courtney was actually there at the owner.
- 58:24She helped.
- 58:25She was on the pod.
- 58:26Hi, Courtney.
- 58:27Hi, hi, hi.
- 58:28So she was there.
- 58:29She helped us.
- 58:30She pulled off the bracelet thing.
- 58:31And then we're like, do you have any tiger's eye?
- 58:33And she was looking through them and she's like, oh, we have like a purple tiger's eye bracelet.
- 58:37And my mom was like, oh my gosh.
- 58:39Well, that was a thing.
- 58:40We didn't need there.
- 58:41And her favorite color is purple.
- 58:42Love it.
- 58:43Perfect.
- 58:44And then I was like, oh, yeah, that's really cool.
- 58:46I have a red tiger's eye.
- 58:47Like, that's my favorite tiger's eye is my red tiger's eye.
- 58:51And then so we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 58:54Love it.
- 58:55Yeah.
- 58:56So those are people found like our favorite color in the like one tiger's eye we were looking
- 59:02for.
- 59:03And then we were looking around for just like a stone of it too.
- 59:06And we ended up finding blue tiger's eye.
- 59:09Oh, which is gorgeous.
- 59:11Yes.
- 59:12And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:13And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:14And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:15And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:16And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:17And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:18And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:19And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:20And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:21And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:22And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:23And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:24And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:25And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:26And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:27And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:28And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:43And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:44And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:45And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:46And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:47And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:48And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:49And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:50And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:51And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:52And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:53And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:54And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:55And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:56And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:57And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:57And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:58And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 59:59And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:00And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:01And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:02And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:03And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:04And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:05And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:06And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:07And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:08And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:09And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:10And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:11And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:12And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:13And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:28And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:29And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:30And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:31And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:32And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:33And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:34And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:35And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:36And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:37And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:38And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:39And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:40And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:41And then we found a red tiger's eye bracelet.
- 1:00:42Yeah, same.
- 1:00:43So I'm obsessed with my new bracelet.
- 1:00:45Yeah.
- 1:00:46It's pretty.
- 1:00:47Thank you.
- 1:00:48I whack things with little beads all the time.
- 1:00:51Oh, for sure.
- 1:00:52All right.
- 1:00:53Well, if you know what am I trying to say?
- 1:00:59If you have any other interpretations for this card as it relates to the story, or maybe
- 1:01:04as you're listening and you're like, oh man, that relates to my life.
- 1:01:08Is this card for me?
- 1:01:09It's card for me.
- 1:01:12Could be.
- 1:01:13Could be.
- 1:01:14Could be.
- 1:01:15If you think it is, probably is.
- 1:01:16Yeah.
- 1:01:17Yeah.
- 1:01:18No, it's all of the interpretations.
- 1:01:20It's like, you're just kind of meant to take what is useful to you.
- 1:01:26What feels applicable to you.
- 1:01:28So, yeah.
- 1:01:29Yeah.
- 1:01:30Oh, you know what?
- 1:01:31I do kind of have a fun story, actually.
- 1:01:33I knew it.
- 1:01:34I was stalling because I knew you had something.
- 1:01:36Yeah.
- 1:01:37I mean, I've spent a lot of time looking at like catering menus and stuff.
- 1:01:41And that's not very exciting to share.
- 1:01:44Unfortunately.
- 1:01:45But I got a text from our friend.
- 1:01:50I referred to his.
- 1:01:52Windsor.
- 1:01:53Hmm.
- 1:01:54Hi.
- 1:01:55From Yeeled crime.
- 1:01:57And she.
- 1:01:58We'd sent her a deck.
- 1:02:00Oh, and she was asking about kind of what she needed to do.
- 1:02:06To set up and like how to go about doing her first reading for someone.
- 1:02:11I don't know if it was for herself.
- 1:02:13I.
- 1:02:14The way that she ordered it, I presume it was for someone else.
- 1:02:19So I kind of talked her through.
- 1:02:21I was like, I sent you that deck cleanse because obviously I'm not an animal.
- 1:02:26I pre cleanse all of the decks that we've sent to like any of our, you know, podcast friends.
- 1:02:33Yeah.
- 1:02:36So I just let her know you know, you can kind of do whatever you want.
- 1:02:39It's all just supposed to be, you know, kind of intuitive and have fun with it.
- 1:02:45So you can do anything from just a single card draw to we like to, I like to do the, the past present future.
- 1:02:55But you can do like I think the Celtic cross.
- 1:02:58What is that?
- 1:02:5910 or is it 12 cards?
- 1:03:01I mean, it's massive.
- 1:03:03It's massive.
- 1:03:04And having done one a few months back for someone, I can tell you that it's like that's a lengthy
- 1:03:10reading.
- 1:03:11It is.
- 1:03:12And most of the little books have like, especially those three like setups in there to show you
- 1:03:17like what they mean or just a quick Google.
- 1:03:20Yeah.
- 1:03:21I mean, you can find all different types of tarot spreads if you really make a wrong.
- 1:03:26Yeah.
- 1:03:27And I feel like you want it to be more guided than there's a ton of them out there.
- 1:03:32But yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:33And I've probably said it before, kind of like an easy way.
- 1:03:36If you feel like you need to cleanse it or whatever, I just cleanse while I'm shuffling.
- 1:03:41And like my first couple of shuffles I'm thinking about just cleansing the energy out of the deck as it flips around.
- 1:03:48And then I shuffle the energy I want back into it.
- 1:03:52Yeah.
- 1:03:53Because I am a lazy ass which and that's what I do.
- 1:03:55Yeah.
- 1:03:56Some people are green witches, some people are lazy ass witches.
- 1:04:01Yeah.
- 1:04:02Yeah.
- 1:04:03It's funny because that was kind of the last thing that I had said to Lindsay.
- 1:04:09I just said, you know, it's, I sent it to you pre cleanse.
- 1:04:13But when you feel like it is maybe ready for a cleanse and it's just sort of like a feeling that you might get.
- 1:04:19There's not like, you do it every 30 days or yeah.
- 1:04:23There's not, there's no like hard rules.
- 1:04:25I was like, you know, it can be a little bit intimidating when you start like kind of in your baby witch days or baby terro days looking online because there are some people that have boy, did they have opinions?
- 1:04:40Yes.
- 1:04:41They have opinions like all of us have assholes, especially TikTok.
- 1:04:46Yeah.
- 1:04:47But I'm like, I just don't really subscribe to a lot of the hard and fast rule type.
- 1:04:53We don't like rules.
- 1:04:54We've covered this.
- 1:04:55Yeah.
- 1:04:56I feel, yeah.
- 1:04:57I just don't think it's necessary in most cases.
- 1:04:59I think, you know, probably there are some things for sure stick, you know, stick clear of.
- 1:05:05But I just said, you know, when you're ready for a cleanse, let us know because we have several really good options for how to cleanse it.
- 1:05:15And you can just figure out what works for you.
- 1:05:18Yeah.
- 1:05:19Because there are a number of different ways that you can do a cleansing type ritual, whether it's for terro cards or for something else.
- 1:05:28Anything.
- 1:05:29Yeah.
- 1:05:29And if you like a rule, follow it.
- 1:05:31Yeah.
- 1:05:32I'm not here to say you can't follow rules.
- 1:05:34Oh, absolutely.
- 1:05:35Sometimes I read a rule and I'm really like, okay, yeah, that makes sense to me.
- 1:05:39Yeah, but I do it.
- 1:05:40Yeah.
- 1:05:41So really just do whatever you want.
- 1:05:43Yeah.
- 1:05:44Just be who you want, do what you want and please be who you want to be.
- 1:05:50Yeah.
- 1:05:51We don't like people who be who they don't want to be.
- 1:05:55You know what?
- 1:05:56I'm sorry.
- 1:05:57We just don't like that journey for someone who feels like they have to hide who they truly are.
- 1:06:02I am channeling Lady Gaga because I just watched her concert on HBO last night and it was fucking amazing.
- 1:06:08And so I'm just like, view you are.
- 1:06:13I love you.
- 1:06:14Oh, you monster.
- 1:06:15I love her.
- 1:06:16She is awesome.
- 1:06:17Yeah.
- 1:06:18She is awesome.
- 1:06:19Did you know that she was also in the movie A Star Is Born?
- 1:06:22Are you kidding me?
- 1:06:24She literally sang shallow at her concert and I bald my fucking eyes out.
- 1:06:30I was not expecting that.
- 1:06:32Do you remember why I'm saying that?
- 1:06:34No, I don't.
- 1:06:35I was not smart as.
- 1:06:38Do you remember I was telling you that we were watching the preview of A Star Is Born and all of a sudden she comes on and I was saying something about like, oh, you know, Lady Gaga blah blah blah.
- 1:06:50And Chris goes, what?
- 1:06:53Like, oh, he had no idea that Lady Gaga.
- 1:06:57Lady Gaga.
- 1:06:58Gaga.
- 1:06:59Some would say.
- 1:07:00He had no idea she was in that movie and he was like, yeah, I've never seen it and I've never, I don't think he'd even seen the trailer.
- 1:07:10And I was just like, that's just.
- 1:07:13Yeah, I've seen that movie exactly one times.
- 1:07:17Because it's too sad.
- 1:07:18I will never watch it again.
- 1:07:20Oh, I will totally watch it again.
- 1:07:22Just like that fucking wrestling movie I was telling you about the iron claw.
- 1:07:26Yeah, that sounds too sad.
- 1:07:28Literally the saddest movie I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 1:07:33I just wanted to see Zach up on that fake it.
- 1:07:36I feel like there's a lot of other films where you can accomplish that goal.
- 1:07:40And it had the guy who's in Murder at the end of the world.
- 1:07:46He's in it too.
- 1:07:48Okay, now I see why you really watch the movie.
- 1:07:51And that was worse.
- 1:07:53I can see that.
- 1:07:58It was really hard movie to watch.
- 1:08:00It was good.
- 1:08:01I'll never watch it again.
- 1:08:03Just think about it every day and cry myself.
- 1:08:06I mean, she says that now, but you know, we'll see.
- 1:08:10You're going to make me watch it later.
- 1:08:12We're going to watch it again.
- 1:08:14Because I don't want to watch it by myself.
- 1:08:16You have to watch it alone.
- 1:08:18Do you like crying in front of other people?
- 1:08:20Because you can't hold it in.
- 1:08:21I'm giving it a fuck.
- 1:08:22I can't.
- 1:08:23I can't.
- 1:08:24I mean, I know you're skilled at disassociation like me, but.
- 1:08:29No, honestly, I invented it.
- 1:08:33I perfected it and now give experts seminars on it.
- 1:08:38I probably think if there was people in the room, I couldn't have cried that much.
- 1:08:41But I was alone.
- 1:08:42So I just like, let it let it lose.
- 1:08:45Just made a good cry though.
- 1:08:47But I feel like I would just cry in front of you and probably Chris, just like as if nobody
- 1:08:53was there just about.
- 1:08:54Yeah.
- 1:08:55Yeah.
- 1:08:56Yeah.
- 1:08:57We cry in front of each other.
- 1:08:58That's all we did.
- 1:08:59All right.
- 1:09:00Well, I think it's normal and healthy.
- 1:09:02Yeah.
- 1:09:03So get over it.
- 1:09:04We've rambled a lot.
- 1:09:06Yeah.
- 1:09:07There we are.
- 1:09:08Should we go?
- 1:09:09I guess.
- 1:09:10Yeah.
- 1:09:11All right.
- 1:09:12Let's go.
- 1:09:13Bye.
- 1:09:14Oh.
- 1:09:15I was so confused.
- 1:09:17I'm just going to have a creepy ass day.
- 1:09:20See you next Tuesday.
- 1:09:21Or maybe sooner or just depends on who you are, what you do.
- 1:09:27Defer and how much you pay us.
- 1:09:29Different stiff.
- 1:09:30Yeah.
- 1:09:31Well, we will see you next Tuesday as long as you do not attempt to frame your husband's murder.
- 1:09:40Wait, what are you trying to say?
- 1:09:42I can't evidence for your husband's murder and then end up hurting yourself and then come
- 1:09:47up with a crazy story that makes sense.
- 1:09:50And then everyone's just sad.
- 1:09:52If you're going to try to foil the detectives, like you should probably frame an actual person.
- 1:10:00Yeah.
- 1:10:01Not just some random guys.
- 1:10:02Not in five days.
- 1:10:03Not in five days.
- 1:10:04Didn't exist.
- 1:10:05Yeah.
- 1:10:06Who placed zero calls to your house?
- 1:10:08I mean, I just can't.
- 1:10:09Get a phone.
- 1:10:10Come on.
- 1:10:11Jesus.
- 1:10:12Yeah.
- 1:10:13Yeah.
- 1:10:14Any hose all right.
- 1:10:16Bye.
- 1:10:17Bye Dave.
- 1:10:18Bye.
- 1:10:19(laughs)
- 1:10:21- You did it. (pnwhauntsandhomicides.com)
