- 0:11Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to banter with the boys fast laps back from summer break
- 0:19We kind of forgot there's a show actually, but here we are
- 0:23two of us
- 0:24Calls out busy and Tyler as you remember is going to be taking some time away as he welcomes another
- 0:32Children having a kid
- 0:34Children in into the world but with us obviously is Joe our co-host perfect
- 0:41Joe first off. How's your week been and then I'll have a follow-up question
- 0:45So, you know, that's a plane in for a call for how my how my week's been. It's you know, Tuesday
- 0:50It's pretty decent weather, you know, I don't have any you know, I mean I don't really work outdoors
- 0:56I have anything to do with outdoors. So it doesn't really matter much to me, but the weather's good
- 1:01Yeah, whether it's good. So yeah, whether it's good so far. It's good for the car. It's good for your car
- 1:05I feel good with the cooler weather. Oh, I mean, yeah
- 1:09Yeah, I mean, it's I take I take summer weather over snow any day and then yeah, Minnesota State Fair is coming up
- 1:14That's this week as well. So, you know, um, yeah ramping up to some some fun getting close to August
- 1:20Are you gonna get to the fair? I am actually we're doing a team out and at work. So I will get I will get there once
- 1:25Yeah, all right, sweet sweet. What's your favorite food at the fair? Is it on a stick?
- 1:31My in previous years, it's been like fried. Yeah, it's been like fried pickles or the sweet Martha's cookies
- 1:37You just can't go to sweet Mars is yeah, that's a you get the bucket
- 1:40Of course
- 1:43So for those that don't know at the Minnesota State Fair you get sweet Martha's cookies at the bucket
- 1:47like an ice cream bucket kind of but then they fill that up and then they pile more cookies on top of it so you got
- 1:53to eat like
- 1:5520 cookies seriously shut the thing. Yeah 10 to 15 just to shut it
- 1:58So yeah, I'm normally like I'm having a couple and then yeah, I'm just like a balancing act on the way home
- 2:04So I'm bouncing. Yeah, I'm hoping to get a bucket and then spread the wealth amongst my family for sure for sure
- 2:09No, I'm looking forward to the fair to I will definitely be attending next week
- 2:14What have you been doing the last three weeks since we've been on f1 summer break? Yeah f1 summer break
- 2:19It's you know, I've definitely weekends have well weirdly enough. I've been doing more like content stuff
- 2:25So like I you know, I've my weekends have not been any less busy
- 2:29It's a little bit of a blessing that I was so busy because I didn't have to you know find time to watch races or
- 2:35Or you know decline things so I could watch the race which I have definitely done before but I still got a little racing in
- 2:42I think it was like first weekend of August
- 2:44I went to a road America in Wisconsin to see the sports car races or got this hat and couple of these stickers here
- 2:51It was fun time. Yeah
- 2:56Yeah, I got this like
- 2:58Cartoon anvil thing and then I also got where I got the hat
- 3:01There was a McLaren that was driving in the race by faf motor sports. So that's where I got the hat
- 3:06Okay, so I'm urge from that from that booth. Oh, yeah, you bought a lot of merch from that booth
- 3:10I bought a lot of merch from that booth. Yeah, and I always look out for f1 stuff for sure
- 3:14I missed a couple of like f1 stickers that I could have got could have gotten
- 3:18I do have a Lando Norris like kind of cartoon sticker that I'm probably gonna put right here
- 3:22I went I looked out for hats for you man, but they were just very low this year
- 3:25I can hey well and and finding me an alpine gasly has
- 3:28I
- 3:31Usually they have a couple more teams at least have like the big four but they think anything this year
- 3:36So for sure got away with a couple McLaren hats and a few stickers and I think I like a water bottle or something
- 3:41It's awesome cars race around road America. It's a really fun track
- 3:45Yeah, for sure. Nice. Heck. Yeah, I know for me in the summer break. It was just I
- 3:50I coach high school football here locally. So that has started and that takes up a lot of my time as well as work
- 3:59So just you know normal stuff for me, but yeah, we're happy to be back happy to be back
- 4:04You know with a fast laps episode
- 4:07If you tuned in I don't was it last week. I think was last week. We had an NFL preseason show
- 4:13obviously with the NFL seasons coming up if you watch
- 4:16American football and that with the NFL tune into that first episode go
- 4:20It went well, it went well. Well, we're excited. We're gonna have revolving door of guests. So that's actually exciting
- 4:26So, you know, we're just Minnesota fans primarily, but we do talk about the league as a whole
- 4:32So then rotating guests of different teams, it's gonna be a great time this season for sure for sure
- 4:37But with that let's let's get back to f1 obviously and kind of head to our summer break recap or any call it
- 4:44summer break recap or any call it
- 4:46Backslash news. Yeah backslash news
- 4:50transition
- 5:08All right and to start off the news we're gonna start by talking about
- 5:12Alpine actually
- 5:15What was his name Bruno famine? Yep the interim team principal
- 5:20He is we knew he was out heading into summer break and pretty much
- 5:24What did you say right after break is when the Oliver Oaks news kind of hit?
- 5:29I don't know one thing to note that I saw that kind of stuck out to me was that the dudes only 36 years old
- 5:35Yeah, which is kind of young for team principal. I have a fun fact actually
- 5:40Wait on me
- 5:42Guess how old Christian Horner was when he became team principal. I have no idea 31 really? Yeah, I've seen I've seen videos
- 5:49I was not watching f1 and you know early when they were
- 5:53Long as he been team principal like 18 some one years time. I think he was I think I read 2005
- 5:58It's okay. He became team principal cheese
- 6:00but like
- 6:01around like the Red Bull like I mean he was probably he was obviously in his 30s at this point, but like when
- 6:06when when Vettel was winning with Red Bull like he looks like a baby compared to how he
- 6:14Yeah, but 31 yeah still 36 very young. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 6:20Don't know do we do we see any like big tweaks coming for Alpine with with a hire of a new team principal or is this
- 6:26More or less planning for the future at this point? I mean definitely I mean it probably
- 6:31Like Bruno famine is not supposed to be team principal. He stepped in because
- 6:35Amar was not doing well
- 6:38Right he was never supposed to be team principal is he staying with them that he should go back to his what was his original role?
- 6:43I don't even know it was like CTO like
- 6:46Back to that I would imagine he would yeah, or at least be given the option to I would hope yeah
- 6:52I think yeah, I just I think he was probably fine as team principal
- 6:55I just don't think like he wasn't supposed to be it and also I don't think he's great for PR either
- 7:00unfortunately
- 7:02Yeah, yeah, a hundred percent. Yeah, a hundred percent. So, you know, they probably want someone who you know is
- 7:08You know stationed to be a team principal in that spot. Where does Oakley come from? Is he coming from Red Bull?
- 7:13Oh, I don't know where he comes from, but I know I think he's a former F1 driver if I'm not mistaken
- 7:21Which not to go off?
- 7:24Topic again with Horner, but was former did Horner former Wow
- 7:28Did Horner ever race like at the top level of a key ever race at the top level, but he definitely race race
- 7:34Yeah, yeah all over Oaks
- 7:39GP3 a little bit 2010
- 7:43British f3 was in 08 09. Okay, so it's been a minute. It's been a minute, but he worked his way up forming the BMW UK
- 7:50forming the Renault
- 7:52Euro Cup international formula and then formula 3 euro
- 7:55And then he's been with like Renault and the euro kind of teams for a while. Okay, that makes sense
- 8:01So instead of getting swapped over from a different team, he just kind of built his way up to it
- 8:05Yeah, that's what it seems like. Yeah, so, uh, yeah, I don't know. Anyway, I don't know much about all
- 8:14Now that I'm gonna be trying to be an Alpine fan since gasly's there for a minute, I guess I should probably figure it out
- 8:21Yeah, I'll get it together I'll get together for fandom, you know, we'll learn about him in next year's drive survive
- 8:27Now for sure we will for sure we will of course
- 8:31Moving right along here actually going to talk a little bit about Red Bull
- 8:38Jonathan Wheatley Red Bulls sporting director is set to leave at the end of the season to become Audi's team principal
- 8:45I think they're gonna be called Audi works. Oh, I did put that later
- 8:48But then it's just like well, what about what do you I don't even remember I'll say his name Benoto
- 8:53I'm Matteo Benoto. You know, Benoto, Benoto
- 8:55We should figure that out, too. I start making a list of names and we need to figure out I brought up the pronunciation
- 9:01I actually looked it up. I had it had the you know, computer speak to me what his name was and yeah
- 9:06It was you know, obviously a summer ago. So fair enough or something like that. Yeah, so
- 9:11Yeah, for a while I actually remember bringing this up like I couldn't I couldn't find if he was supposed to be team principal
- 9:18Right. Yes, I do remember that so we talked about this. Apparently he's not being team principal
- 9:22This guy is I looked up what his his position is and just like it said beforehand
- 9:27I thought maybe they were you know concurrent with each other
- 9:30In team principal and this but he's CEO and CTO which is chief operating and then chief technical officer
- 9:37So who who gets final say or is it like a board or how does that work?
- 9:41You know, I mean, I would imagine when it comes to like the racing
- 9:45Um, it's going to be like on race day its team principal
- 9:48It's got to be Wheatley just like in terms of you know, race decisions team orders all that fun stuff, right? I would imagine
- 9:55Benoto is just upper management at this point. Yeah kind of overseas the whole thing
- 10:00A little bit but still upper management. So I would imagine he doesn't have a ton of say um, but you know, I don't know
- 10:09So I do think he's probably going to be seen a lot more because I think he's good for PR
- 10:14Like I think people know he's definitely they definitely know his face and that's all thanks to drive
- 10:18Maybe so for sure. I think a hundred percent. Yes, you know, that's a good point
- 10:22I wonder if that is more of like a PR move knowing he can probably do the job just fine, too
- 10:26But yeah, that's interesting. Yeah, this face is gonna be back all over drive to survive
- 10:31Sure. I'm sure at least at least a little bit, right? Um, we'll see I mean Audi might we have so much unknown about Audi
- 10:39Like I know it's exciting. It's actually exciting. What I can be a fan of that team. You could
- 10:45I should jump on the bandwagon right off the get-go. Yeah, I'm going to right at the gate
- 10:50I'm gonna be a fan of no more McLaren done screw Lando. Whoa
- 10:53I spent way too much of the McLaren 10. We bought their next car. Okay
- 10:58No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm gonna be like I'm gonna like them though
- 11:02I don't like hate the brand or anything like so I'm going automatically like them coming in for sure
- 11:07I'm excited to see for the first time me watching
- 11:11Well, I guess I saw Aston Martin take over racing points. I guess that's not this isn't true, but like
- 11:16Being as involved in that was exciting to me, but yeah exactly and maybe because we live over here. Maybe it's exciting over there
- 11:24Yeah, because Aston, you know, I don't know just because it was I
- 11:28Think maybe we also saw that transition. I saw that transition
- 11:30He's over there too, right? So I didn't I saw it through the lens of DTS or not live. So maybe only thing
- 11:37Now that I'm super involved in F1 and we've been like, you know, I've been like, you know, I've been like, I've been like
- 11:42So maybe only thing now that I'm super involved in F1 and we've been like talking about it for so long and we're gonna
- 11:48Now see it happen live. I think I'm probably a little bit more invested into well
- 11:51And when Aston was racing point all I can remember about racing point is the whole
- 11:56The owner and the whole deal. Yeah. Yeah, I say I can remember it now. I can't remember it
- 12:01Classic, but you know what I'm talking about
- 12:04You know, I'm saying you know, I'm saying I'm staying with Red Bull though
- 12:07Um, you know kind of as expected as we kind of talked about already checkoff seat was safe heading into summer as far as maybe
- 12:15downgrading to a v-car downgrade but
- 12:17um
- 12:19And now, you know, obviously we're back and that seems to be true. He is keeping his seat in there, you know backing him up
- 12:25Is this is this possibly?
- 12:28I don't want to say a mistake for Red Bull
- 12:30but like if they want to win the constructors and we'll get to mcclaren in a second, but
- 12:35If they want to win the constructors, is this the smartest move for them to keep check on the seat over say?
- 12:40Would Danny rick do any better right now? Do you think or or yuki would would that even be a good move?
- 12:45If for to win the constructor specifically to win the constructors specifically he should have been out long ago. I believe I mean
- 12:54There's an argument to say he should stay with the team for the rest of the year
- 12:58And I can absolutely see sides of that and I can side for part of that
- 13:01Um, there is no argument in my opinion for why he should stay for like one plus two years like that's crazy to me
- 13:07Like you don't think he should start 2025. Oh god. No, no, he should not start 2025
- 13:12Um, the thought that they even have a contract where he's possibility in the car for 2026 is crazy to me
- 13:17Yeah, so in terms of if he should be racing after break
- 13:24He's he's not going to help them when it comes to constructors
- 13:27Hopefully he's worked on himself a bit during the summer and he comes back swinging better. I don't I mean, you know, just
- 13:33I hear you. I mean I say that but we saw you know
- 13:36The whole sergeant, you know, like he he worked on himself over like winter break and he came back the same driver
- 13:42He was definitely better, but he's not performing. What do you think it is though for check? Oh, do you think it's like mental mistakes?
- 13:47Do you think there's more and more pressure especially now with the new deal in place?
- 13:51Like do you think he's feeling some of that pressure maybe for the first time since he's been in the red bull?
- 13:58Because this is definitely you know
- 14:00This this season is the worst he's raced in the red bull. I yeah, it's the worst
- 14:03I mean, I feel like it's probably the worst he's raced in like a while right? I can't fact check that but
- 14:08Um, i'm sure there has been pressure and i'm sure it's like I can only imagine
- 14:14The worse you do the more pressure you you get to like perform to like prove yourself and prove you're worth the seat
- 14:20uh
- 14:22Yeah, it's I just kind of side with him a little bit in terms of why he shouldn't be swapped out
- 14:28I just feel like it's risky not knowing enough about
- 14:31Uh, danny rick and sonota seeing them race and obviously having that to go off of I think
- 14:37They probably still need a little bit more time to get to that level
- 14:40Maybe for sure if let's say right out of the gate sonota and danny rick getting points
- 14:46Consistently every single race. I think that decision's way easier
- 14:49They swap checko in for one of them and they call it a day
- 14:53But because they haven't been at that point and maybe it's the car doing it either way
- 14:57I think they both made some mistakes just makes it harder. Yeah, exactly makes it so much harder
- 15:02Yeah, like
- 15:04I don't know. I think you give them i'm just spitballing. Yeah, but I think you give them
- 15:08I think you give them like three races checko coming out of break
- 15:12Like if you can finish
- 15:15You got to finish six or better
- 15:17If you're checko you have to like there's there's you have one of the better cars as far as we know on the grid
- 15:24Um, we know mcclaren's charging and mercedes is right there. That's what i'm saying six
- 15:27I think you still have to finish in front of the ferraris right now. Sure. Um charles, you know
- 15:32Based on skill could finish in front of checko. So maybe i'll give them a pity point for seventh
- 15:36Yeah, but you have you have to be finishing up there and I just we're not seeing it
- 15:41and then
- 15:42I just
- 15:44If we if we if he finishes out of points at all within those three races
- 15:49I I think you gotta put somebody else in the car and at this point in the season
- 15:53Let's say it's three races from now. Now. It's danny rick for me
- 15:56If it was coming out of summer break, i'd say yuki just to give him a shot like fresh
- 16:00And I can't remember when they took was it albon out of the car?
- 16:04for pier
- 16:06Yeah, they took pier out of the car and put albon in. Yeah. Yeah, was that during summer break?
- 16:10I can't remember. I know that's really reaching and I know it's a while ago, but like
- 16:15I just I just feel like that's the time for that move
- 16:18Yeah, I mean if you're serious about the constructors with how hard mcclaren's charging. Yeah, i'm almost thinking maybe red bull isn't serious about it
- 16:25They want you know the championship and that's it. I'm not sure which they probably still will get at the driver championship
- 16:32Yeah, a hundred percent like I
- 16:34Unfortunately, no matter what I think max is going to take the driver championship
- 16:38the driver championship, um, i'm just really hoping lando or
- 16:43Who's the next closest is it?
- 16:46uh
- 16:48Now we like just talked about this. I know literally the other oh I have it up. I have it up from
- 16:53We know land is the closest charles charles charles is 22 points behind lando
- 16:58I don't think charles is gonna get that unfortunately with the ferrari. Do you think he could reach lando?
- 17:02Probably not. The ferrari needs to get better. Yeah, just straight up like I I think charles as a driver. Absolutely
- 17:07He can do it um with the current ferrari probably not so
- 17:11I just want to see lando get as close as he possibly can and just secure second place iron it
- 17:16I just want him to secure second place. Which would be sweet. Yeah, come back next year and hopefully
- 17:21Hopefully a good car that can face off to red bull. Um, but I think max probably has it
- 17:27Uh kind of just going back to red bull as a whole
- 17:30Yeah, I don't
- 17:32Three so you think three races just to see if serger can do it
- 17:35I would even go as further saying like yeah sixth place. I think
- 17:40Do do you think they have to or do you think they are comparing him to max when considering if he should stay?
- 17:47Because obviously max is max is i don't think you can he's tracks ahead of check. Yeah for sure
- 17:52We know and we know that but like you're saying so are you saying you have to hit this specific placement or you have to be?
- 17:58Within max right because max is 100 the standard
- 18:01I think I think we're already past the part of being within this window of max
- 18:07I think that is already was probably already a thing like you guys have been mentioning all season
- 18:12And I think that just has passed and now that they're sticking with them. Maybe they're adjusting it now. They're like, oh now you got to finish
- 18:20It just where where was he in the drivers because he's he's got to finish he's tumbling dude
- 18:25I know he's in seventh right now last time. Yeah, so he's in seventh. He's 19 points behind louis
- 18:30Who's behind him who's behind checo? Yeah, george rossel with 15 points behind him
- 18:36George would will catch him if he's not careful. That's why i'm saying it's only three races dude for me
- 18:42I think I can only give him three races. I think that's fair
- 18:45I think they're probably going to give him the rest of the season. They probably will yeah
- 18:48Um, and it'll just kind of depend on where he ends up if they do give him the rest of the season
- 18:53They got to swap them. I don't know who you swap them for
- 18:56I don't think danny rick showed me enough this year that yes, i'm 100% inking danny rick to start in the season in the red bull
- 19:02Next year. I just
- 19:03Red bull is just in
- 19:05Like they're in a weird spot. They're in a weird spot right now really weird spot
- 19:09And I mean that leads me into my next thing about red bull kind of like with newie leaving with now wheely leaving does that?
- 19:16Factor in at all for savon's future. Like does he care about about it that much or does he just like I just want a fast car
- 19:23Whoever can give it to me. I'm just gonna drive that thing
- 19:26I
- 19:28Man, it's so hard to read max
- 19:29I think if the other guys are here they would say that he wants the fast car
- 19:32But like I don't I just don't know how like how committed he is to red bull
- 19:35I feel like he's he's gonna be like really committed. I know it was all turmoil earlier
- 19:39Would he just retire and be like i've i've done what I can do. There's no way he's retiring
- 19:44There's no way max max races in two different signs through 2025. He yeah
- 19:49Yeah, so he but he races in two different sports at the same time before he retires. He's crazy like that. Yeah
- 19:56Yeah, I I don't know. I I I don't think it obviously helps
- 19:59But there's a really there's a world where max just doesn't care like he like Wheely leaves
- 20:03He doesn't really care about that
- 20:05You know what I mean?
- 20:05I don't I don't think he does but like it should be a concern though
- 20:09That there's changes happening when you've been producing a championship level car
- 20:13Like kind of want that to keep going 100. I think yeah, I mean
- 20:17I mean, he's still only 26 years old. I thought he was like 29 max
- 20:21He's I feel like we've been watching forever because we have yeah, he's been I think he's been at f1 since he's been
- 20:27Did he race at 18?
- 20:30At the highest level. Yeah, I can't remember when he came in because that's pretty much right when I'm pretty sure
- 20:34I mean, yeah, didn't he come in like 17? He was racing with dandy rick. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, he's
- 20:40Yeah, he's just I mean he's in the like literally his prime
- 20:44If master wasn't his prime like this like stretch of him winning wdc is his prime like I mean
- 20:52And if he has this you're locked up
- 20:54hypothetically
- 20:56How many is that for him again? If he wins this one, this is his fourth. This would be his fourth. Yeah
- 21:02Yeah, he's chasing
- 21:04He's chasing
- 21:06Schumacher I imagine he would want now
- 21:08will he
- 21:10Break the record. I mean, I mean obviously we'd have to like look in the future
- 21:14I don't think he breaks we just don't know about 2026 yet. You do a little bit and we'll probably table that
- 21:19It's just reg stuff
- 21:20It doesn't tell me like who's going to be the best at making it because newie is gone
- 21:24That 2026 car is just a throw up in the air. Like I have no idea. Yeah, nobody knows. Yeah, no idea
- 21:31But with that kind of who's going to be challenging them in mclaren
- 21:35And probably the rest of this season for sure and probably next season potentially for the constructors
- 21:42And maybe the driver championship next year potentially would be nice
- 21:46But andrea stella extends his contract as the team principal. Yep. How do you feel about that move feel good?
- 21:52I think he he does a really good job
- 21:54Excuse me. Um, I didn't think there was anything wrong with uh our last
- 21:59Hour, I think there's anything wrong with their last team principal
- 22:02But stella has obviously he's gotten them. He's I mean he hasn't there's been some questionable strategy
- 22:08Sure, I mean to argue this season which seems to happen with every team. Yeah, at least a couple times a year, right?
- 22:14Yeah, definitely, but he is yeah, he he's doing a good job. He's gotten both drivers a win this year
- 22:20He has like this is true landos first and oscars first
- 22:23Um, somebody said, you know, I I do think so. I mean and the car is not getting
- 22:28Getting worse if anything, it's getting better each each race. So and he's not the only person behind these decisions
- 22:34But he's definitely the face of them and I think it's looking pretty good. Um, I also like how
- 22:41And I say the last guy because I can't remember his name because zach brown is always going to be the face of mcclaren for me
- 22:47Even though he has you know, he's not a team principal, but he's always there front and center
- 22:51um
- 22:51I like how their little setup goes where zach is kind of like the face and then you have the team principal right behind them
- 22:56That's doing all like doing all the hard stuff. Yeah, and zach's just like soaking it all up
- 23:02This is my racing company. Let's go golf
- 23:05Let's go golfing. Um
- 23:08Zach brown come on the show buddy. Yeah
- 23:11I mean mcclaren is only 42 points behind red bull and the constructors and again if we're saying
- 23:18Hypothetically if jack was finishing that six seventh, but mcclaren can consistently finish two three three four
- 23:23Four
- 23:27Like I think it's realistic that mcclaren could win the constructors which is two winning drivers obviously sergio is a winning driver as well
- 23:34um, but
- 23:36Oscar is like a force to be reckoned with I feel like get him a good track and he's going to
- 23:41He's aggressive help perform him. He's aggressive. He's aggressive. He's still he's still rookie-ish. He's got stuff to learn
- 23:48absolutely, um
- 23:49Lando's got to get his starts correct, dude, right? But what is wrong with that? I don't know. I don't
- 23:55I mean, okay and the video game i'm horrible. It starts sure. Yeah, you know doing it the you gotta do the clutch
- 24:01You know, whatever. I know how to drive a manual car not an f1 car
- 24:05but
- 24:06like
- 24:07So I get it. Yeah, but like I don't know. I have literally no idea but at least I think what's good
- 24:12It's not getting better though. That's the thing. It's not getting better. But for both drivers
- 24:17It's very clear what they need to work on and so they can whereas other drivers like
- 24:23Checo who's probably got a lot more things to work on, you know drive the car. Yeah, finish the race
- 24:28Just please finish the race, please get into finishing points
- 24:32And that's sad the thing about you're telling the second red bull car not to go back at red bone or not
- 24:36But tell the second car that just get in points dude when the other car's winning the race. Yeah, it's not
- 24:41Yeah, it's unacceptable. That's why i'm like that's why I went back to that. Yeah gap to max is because that's unacceptable
- 24:47Yeah, it is
- 24:48It's you're in a red bull. You're in a literal rocket ship. That's what I mean. It's I think you're right
- 24:53I think 2025 it's a different driver. He's still with right red bull but at racing bulls probably. Yeah, that's
- 25:00or he's
- 25:01Can you move so if they signed him? Oh dang it. I'm going down the rabbit hole and then we're gonna move on
- 25:05It's okay, but if you sign like they signed uh, treco to the deal, right?
- 25:08Can they put them in a reserve driver role on that same deal and sign somebody else?
- 25:12I remember I think this is something we touched on a little bit. We don't I don't know if if that's a possibility or
- 25:18That's how that works 100 percent the possibility. It's just you know, depends on what the money the same like
- 25:24I think they probably gotta pay him for what that contract is. I'm sure part of it's guaranteed
- 25:29I mean they got danny like f1 contracts are real
- 25:33Yeah, they paid danny a ton for being a reserve driver
- 25:35So I imagine they can do the same thing with checo if they really wanted to
- 25:39Um, I think it would be a bad move and bring one of them up and put liam in the whatever
- 25:43That would be so nice. I think
- 25:46Unfortunately, I don't know if liam is getting a spot next year. I don't know. I think it was probably going to take one of those spots
- 25:53Because I imagine he wants to stay in the game
- 25:55So that that actually leads me into that last our last topic kind of let's talk about liam really quick
- 26:01Because if he doesn't get a seat next year
- 26:03How does that change the course of his career? Because I think he's only signed through 2025 as the reserve
- 26:09I thought I read somewhere I could be completely wrong, but let's say he is right
- 26:12Yeah, and he doesn't have a seat in 2025. So now he's looking for a contract heading into 2026
- 26:18Is there even a seat available at that point for him? You think? Yeah, there's a lower tiered team going to take a shot
- 26:24at that point
- 26:26if red bull hasn't oh, I mean I
- 26:29I just feel like there are so many there are so many drivers and so many
- 26:34Like I hate to say it better options more experienced options than that people that have actually driven the car for full seasons
- 26:41That's what check was going over. Yeah, exactly. And I think any team like again, unfortunately would probably pick check over liam
- 26:48Just because it has the experience. I probably would yeah as much as I was just hating on check over the last 20 minutes
- 26:54We're in this like
- 26:56Yeah, exactly. I mean exactly he's got the experience. He knows how to drive the car. He's not going to cost you
- 27:01I mean, you know, he's going to cost you millions, but he's not going to cost you millions upon millions upon millions of damage
- 27:07so
- 27:09Red bull is like you said in such a weird space where you have two drivers at vcarb who are like
- 27:14Maybe they can make it at red bull. Maybe you have checko who's not making it at red bull
- 27:19So you had to swap him in for another driver that might not be able to perform as well as him
- 27:23And then you got liam who can't get a spot but deserves a spot and you got I think his name is isaac hadjar in f2
- 27:29Who's doing really well? He's having a good season. Yeah, if it comes to the name
- 27:34I think that is vcarb needing an extra driver. Do they take liam or do they take him?
- 27:38So it's it's such a real it's such a weird season. It's liam
- 27:42We're like vcarb has the pick of their litter and red bull is like is like there's like a bouncer at the gate
- 27:48Like who knows who can be led into that seat?
- 27:50It's so weird
- 27:52That's gonna be tough. Yeah, that's why i'm saying does liam end up
- 27:57Not having a seat ended up being a career reserve. He might I mean, you know, we see which is crazy
- 28:03Like is that a thing? Uh, we saw
- 28:06I'm losing his name
- 28:07Last year he raced he raced with alfatari for half the season. He got booted a devries
- 28:13We saw devries. He was like a career long reserve driver for the mercedes kind of family
- 28:19And then he got moved into that spot. He lasted he lasted um half a year. Yeah
- 28:24He did not play well with history
- 28:26themselves like obviously
- 28:28You know you got onto a red bull team the the carboralfatari at that team if you don't perform
- 28:35Minus checo you're you're out. But I mean simply put we're in agreement
- 28:39So you're not putting liam in the red bull next year. That would be crazy
- 28:43Over like I would I would be very surprised if they put liam in a red bull over yuki or danny or danny
- 28:49That's what I mean. That would be insane just
- 28:53That'd be crazy
- 28:53So if if one of those vcar drivers get that seat liam is probably getting the the vcarp seat
- 28:58I would think so unless for some reason
- 29:01Isaac just has continues to have a crazy good f2 season and they consider him tough. Yeah, he's really young too
- 29:07I think he's like 18 or 17
- 29:09He is like the definition of a driver that needs to be in the vcarp or like the red bull sister team
- 29:14You think so 100 like if he's he's doing so good like they want him
- 29:19I'm sure they want him in the vcarp. Is he leading f2 in points? I can't remember. I know he is doing very well
- 29:25The name's very familiar to me. I just know he's doing really well. I'm not sure if he's leading or not
- 29:31Um, but yeah, I would I would obviously hope liam gets another chance. You know, he got
- 29:35Uh zan he is leading was actually he is leading he's leading by like 30 34 points. Geez. Yeah zanvort is another um
- 29:44Zanvort is actually the first race that he he took part in last year
- 29:49When because that was the same race or that was the same weekend that danny got his injury, right? So we had to step out
- 29:54um
- 29:55Yeah, it would be man
- 29:59It's such a weird situation
- 30:01There's like too many drivers for vcarp and not enough drivers for red bull and i'm starting to think we're not going to know the red bull
- 30:07Seat until the season's done. I don't think so, you know, we're just not going to know
- 30:11And technically right now there is no red bull seat open. We're talking like there is
- 30:15Technically there's not there's a vcarp seat open
- 30:18Which is where we could see liam
- 30:21But yeah, I don't know to uh to kind of bring tyler kind of like
- 30:25Bring through me for a little bit. Maybe chuckle retires at the end of the year
- 30:28Maybe it's you know, they make it a big pr thing
- 30:30Retiring no unless they're like hey retiring because they're getting a ton of money
- 30:34I just say unless red bull's like here buddy
- 30:36Um, either you retire or you're out of the seat
- 30:39But you can come out and say that you're retiring and we're cool with that. If you retire right now
- 30:42We will give you the car
- 30:44Yeah, yeah, right as a retirement gift crashes it on the way out
- 30:48um
- 30:50Alpine seat alpine seat gasly's gasly's partner. We're thinking jack is it dohan?
- 30:56Yeah, so we said it was either I I had mentioned it's more than likely dohan. Um possible other option is
- 31:03For me is going to be
- 31:05uh
- 31:06mick mick schumacher
- 31:08Oh, that's right. There was that dark horse too. Yeah, I forget mick's still out there. Yep
- 31:14Um, and that's only because of this like weird like relationship that toto has with alpine that I don't understand mick in the red bull
- 31:202025 I don't know what what that is, but he got like he got oka on that seat. So like it it you know
- 31:26Its history could repeat itself, but I think they should give it to dohan. He's the one that's been testing the car
- 31:31It just makes sense that he gets put into 100% no, I I agree with that. I think that's exactly what we're gonna see
- 31:37a seat that's now
- 31:39Kind of becoming more of a question mark. Um, but now I've I was reading rumors this this morning
- 31:46That were kind of saying that salvers kind of at the point now
- 31:51That they have to either go with botas or zao
- 31:54For their second seat at this point. You almost have to
- 31:57Just for at least next season. Yep
- 32:00I um, I kind of expected one of them to get retained anyway
- 32:04um after hearing that
- 32:06signs wasn't
- 32:08Coming aboard. Um, I was like well, it's like the driver ranking is so limited and if if they do
- 32:14Do get a contract up do they stay frowny? I don't think so. I think if it's if it's botas or zao
- 32:21Joe joe joe i'm saying zao wow joe everyone. Um
- 32:26I think uh, if it's one of those it's just for 2025 like seriously I
- 32:31Unless you want to be really nice to botas
- 32:33But there's some dutch former dutch driver today that came out and oh, it's on my other computer
- 32:38um that came out and said something about um
- 32:40How he thinks that botas is just taking up space and how he needs to pretty much retire and um,
- 32:47You know just
- 32:48You know, i'm like what I mean crazy. Yes. He hasn't done anything this year, but neither is joe the salvers a bad car
- 32:54Neither is the car. Yeah, I I think
- 32:57I mean you you put botas in like a really like the probably the worst car from the best car like it's
- 33:04You know, he's only gonna be the best car at the time for sure. He left. Yeah for sure. Um, so who do you go?
- 33:09With then if it's between the two
- 33:13Botas if you want the experience and you want someone to well, no, because you got nico nico's already a veteran
- 33:20Right. Well, like are you treating nico like the number one and try to you know
- 33:24Play as a team for 2025 to prepare for 2026. So therefore maybe you sign botas to probably a multi-year
- 33:30So now now remembering that nico is there. Um nico's there. He's the veteran
- 33:36So I would say botas if you want more experience and you want probably better position
- 33:40Um, but joe if you want the money
- 33:43I think because I think he brings in a lot of money for for that team
- 33:46Sure, that's right. Yeah, we've talked about that before or putting on my tin foil hat you get mick you get mick in
- 33:53I knew it mick in there you get a german team two german drivers and a
- 33:59Uh, I don't know oliver oaks. I think he's british. I mean it wouldn't be
- 34:02No, but that is that is a good point maybe they do give mick a shot for 2025 see if that's who they want to sign for
- 34:08I mean, I think mick would be funny even though he's just a reserve driver mick would be like a 2026 contract in my fantasy tin foil hat
- 34:17Um, but yeah that that seat. I think you're right. I think it's probably going to be one of the current drivers
- 34:22I just don't know which one they're going to go with which it would it is tough. It is soft
- 34:26If boatos did not get picked, but I can understand what just a mercedes
- 34:33I'm just kidding. That's another seat. That's still open. I know they have not that's the last seat that we got to talk about but
- 34:38I do feel like antonnelli. I mean we've been talking about him all year. It's pretty much bound to happen
- 34:46I but the comment after the one race that he won sticks with me like I just don't know
- 34:51I don't know if I feel like I'm ready or whatever. I'm like there's your answer like for me, right?
- 34:56Then leave him at f2 for another year and make sure or are they afraid like tyler always brought up are they afraid he's going to get poached?
- 35:02Yeah, you know what I mean? Like that's tough
- 35:04But you do have both of us maybe lurking out there that could be a great number two to uh to george maybe
- 35:11Yeah, get a little on a mercedes car. That's getting better
- 35:14Yeah, I think that's a good point
- 35:16Get me to reach george, yeah. That's a good point. That's a good point. It looks like george maybe
- 35:21Yeah, get a little on a mercedes car. That's getting better
- 35:25Yeah, that's so interesting
- 35:27I, man we were talking before the the app started about how like most things have like, you know, settled down now
- 35:34Now we're like, oh my gosh. There's still so much that has to be announced a lot of it
- 35:38We kind of know what's going to happen, but like there's still so much unknown. Yeah, so I mean
- 35:43At this point, that is the only person I would consider unless Vettel's gonna be like, hey,
- 35:49like I don't, not Mick.
- 35:51I'm not gonna say, I'm gonna bring up for the third time.
- 35:55No, not Mick Schumacher.
- 35:56He's the reserve driver, right?
- 35:57So it only like makes sense.
- 35:59The thing is like, I'm not saying Mick is not first pick for any of these spots in my
- 36:03opinion whatsoever, but there are connections to each of them that could be made.
- 36:11I still like the biggest.
- 36:12Cool, I'm signing Mick.
- 36:13I'm signing Mick in the Merc and then I'm gonna switch him and Carlos immediately.
- 36:16I mean, I sound like the biggest Mick Schumacher fan this episode, which is crazy.
- 36:23But like there are like, you see, I told you though, tin foil, like you can see this, like
- 36:26this map with red lines.
- 36:28We need to get a tin foil hat.
- 36:30Yeah, I'm actually, shout out Kev by the way.
- 36:32I'll make a tin foil hat of one of these.
- 36:34You should, and then you should put it on.
- 36:36And you're gonna have a tin foil hat moment.
- 36:38There was actually a moment, I think right before the break where I was very hard, like
- 36:41considering wrapping one of my hats in tin foil.
- 36:44You should, and bring it.
- 36:45I will definitely bring those and have more of those crazy, crazy moments.
- 36:49Yeah, I'm excited for the rest of the season.
- 36:51I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with that extra Merc.
- 36:53I think it makes sense.
- 36:55I mean, it makes sense and it doesn't make sense that Antonelli gets it.
- 36:58But like, what other choice do you have right now?
- 37:01I think in my fantasy land, and then we'll close out our summer break recap here.
- 37:06But I think in my fantasy land, I'd love to see Boatos in it just to see if he can still
- 37:12perform at that level and see if he could help George maybe get to that next level or
- 37:17not.
- 37:18I don't know, because I think, God, this is gonna open up a can of worms really quick.
- 37:21I'm not sure how committed Mercedes is to George long-term.
- 37:26Like they seem like they are right now.
- 37:28Are they committed to George for 2025?
- 37:29Absolutely.
- 37:30They're all in.
- 37:31Chips.
- 37:32You know, but he's only signed through 2025.
- 37:35I think he could get another contract from Merc, but past that, it would depend on performance,
- 37:41obviously.
- 37:42But does he even get that next contract from Merc?
- 37:45Do you think they're fully committed to George Russell heading into 2026?
- 37:50Absolutely 100% they are.
- 37:52There is no way George is not racing for Mercedes.
- 37:55I'll even go on further.
- 37:56There's no way he's not racing for Mercedes in 2027.
- 38:00He's there for a while.
- 38:02He's got to be.
- 38:03He's been driving the car now for a minute.
- 38:04They've been grooming him for a minute.
- 38:05They have.
- 38:06He was at Williams for a minute.
- 38:07Williams for a minute.
- 38:08He's been at Mercedes now for two years, right?
- 38:12He knows the car.
- 38:13He's now performed.
- 38:14Last year, he was definitely the second driver last year.
- 38:17He's performing this year.
- 38:19He is not going anywhere.
- 38:21He is the person they need in that seat.
- 38:25No matter who his second driver is, Bottas, they need Russell still.
- 38:29Because Bottas, what if it isn't the car in Sauber?
- 38:33What if he's just...
- 38:34Dead in the water, boom, Antonelli.
- 38:35Exactly.
- 38:36That's what I'm saying.
- 38:37I actually weirdly think Antonelli is probably the better pick just because they can look
- 38:41forward with him.
- 38:43Whereas with Bottas, they're just kind of counting their days a little bit.
- 38:47So real quick before we depart, or not depart, but move on.
- 38:52If it is Antonelli, what would your realistic expectation be for him in that Mercedes car,
- 38:58not knowing how the car is going to perform in 2025 compared to the Ferrari, the McLaren,
- 39:02and the Red Bull?
- 39:03Yeah.
- 39:04Where would you like to see him finish, let's say, in the driver points by the end of the
- 39:08season if they go Antonelli?
- 39:11I know this is way too early to be talking about this because he's not in the seat, but
- 39:15just...
- 39:16I mean, just knowing Mercedes track record and how bad they do early season recently
- 39:22and how they kind of bring it back late season, I would expect him by end of season, he should
- 39:27be at least eighth.
- 39:29Eighth, okay.
- 39:30I had seventh in my brain, so we're close.
- 39:33I just think like...
- 39:34I mean, I'm thinking about like...
- 39:35Obviously, he's going to get a little time to prep for it, but I'm thinking like Oliver
- 39:39Baerman, like he jumped in for a race and he was in a Ferrari, so he got points, but
- 39:44he had to really fight for those points.
- 39:45I can't jump on that bandwagon yet.
- 39:47Oliver Baerman?
- 39:48Yeah, I'd like to see more from him.
- 39:49Obviously, great race.
- 39:50It was awesome.
- 39:51It was awesome to see.
- 39:52I was really excited.
- 39:53Obviously, solidified him getting the seat with Hasno, right?
- 39:57Another team I should jump on the bandwagon.
- 39:58I should just get everybody's hat.
- 39:59Might as well.
- 40:00Might as well.
- 40:01But, I don't know.
- 40:02That's another rabbit hole.
- 40:03Oh my God.
- 40:04I'm going to go diamond diving.
- 40:05I love talking about this stuff though.
- 40:08It's super fun.
- 40:09So yeah, you know, I mean...
- 40:10But yeah, eighth is what I expect.
- 40:13He should be consistently getting points.
- 40:17Doesn't have to be a lot of points, but he should be getting points.
- 40:20For sure.
- 40:21And start of the season, next year entirely, Russell will be his target.
- 40:27We need to see how he performs compared to Russell, not the rest of the field.
- 40:31Let Russell set the standard for the person he is.
- 40:33Even as a brand new rookie coming in, brand new, like just...
- 40:36I mean, you can't...
- 40:38Like a brand new rookie, you need to kind of size them up.
- 40:40You don't compare him to...
- 40:41Different car, right?
- 40:42You don't compare him to Oliver Baerman or Jack Doohan if he's in a car, the other rookies
- 40:46of that year?
- 40:48Or is that like unfair to them because it's a different car?
- 40:50I guess you definitely do.
- 40:52I mean, if he's finishing worse than them, that's a problem.
- 40:55No, that's an incredible point.
- 40:57But you definitely do need to compare the rookies together because...
- 41:02And then obviously keeping their car performance in mind, right?
- 41:05So if like, if Jack Doohan or rather even Oliver, if Oliver starts getting more points
- 41:10than Antonelli, that's bad.
- 41:12That's a red flag.
- 41:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:15Not good.
- 41:16But I only say that George is like the standard because he is now...
- 41:21That like George, what he races, this is crazy to say.
- 41:23And it's like, it makes me want to open so many more cans of words.
- 41:26Oh, don't do it.
- 41:27I won't.
- 41:28I'm starting to say it, but I won't open any of those cans.
- 41:31Next year, George is the fastest Mercedes can go.
- 41:36Just straight up.
- 41:37He is the standard.
- 41:39So whatever he does, Antonelli is going to be judged against that just to see how much
- 41:44he has to grow.
- 41:45As a number one driver, I would hope so.
- 41:47Yeah.
- 41:48For the team.
- 41:49Right.
- 41:50There's no more Lewis, right?
- 41:51And I think right now, George and Lewis are already kind of there.
- 41:52It's nice to see that they're already right there with each other so we know next season.
- 41:57It should be pretty close to what the best Mercedes could do is, you know, obviously
- 42:01with the driver in mind.
- 42:03So yeah, he's going to be judged against George.
- 42:06I don't think he's going to be judged by the rest of the field except for the rookies just
- 42:09to see how much he has to grow.
- 42:11I wouldn't compare him to Max.
- 42:12I wouldn't compare him to Charles Leclerc.
- 42:14No, it's not fair.
- 42:15And I would only compare him to rookies to a certain point, you know, like just like
- 42:20a quick temp check on if we made the right choice.
- 42:23Yeah.
- 42:24It's just growing and getting the best performance out of your car as you can.
- 42:27Because they're not just making this choice all willy nilly.
- 42:29They've been planning this for years, you know, down the line.
- 42:33They've been, you know, grooming them like they already know who they've wanted in the
- 42:36car.
- 42:37They've done all the research.
- 42:38They've done their homework.
- 42:40So that's a good point.
- 42:41I might even retract my statement a little bit and say he should almost only be compared
- 42:45to George because he's in the Mercedes.
- 42:48Right.
- 42:49But that's where the car makes the difference.
- 42:51Exactly.
- 42:52So if the car somehow becomes a William, like a Williams, and you know, the other teams
- 42:57go up, right?
- 42:58He's only going to be as good as George can be.
- 43:01That's why I say.
- 43:02Sure, sure, sure, sure.
- 43:03So if the other rookies, let's say, are finishing in front of George as well, that's a problem
- 43:08for sure.
- 43:09With the car.
- 43:10For Mercedes.
- 43:11For the car.
- 43:12And then if they're finishing in front of Antonelli and nowhere near George, now that's
- 43:14a problem that Antonelli's having.
- 43:16Yeah.
- 43:17Yeah.
- 43:18I mean, if Biermann's finishing in front of Antonelli, that's a problem.
- 43:22Yeah, I think that's a problem.
- 43:24But again, it just depends on how the car is doing.
- 43:26I don't think there's any way the car is going to be better than Mercedes.
- 43:29I don't think there's going to be that much drop off.
- 43:31But like, do we see Jack Newhan climb up there?
- 43:33You know what I mean?
- 43:34Alpine's been so weird.
- 43:35It's like it wants to be good on some days and other days it doesn't.
- 43:38Alpine's unpredictable.
- 43:39Straight up.
- 43:40It's so unpredictable.
- 43:41Yay, Gasly.
- 43:42Anyway.
- 43:43I love F1, dude.
- 43:44I love this sport so much.
- 43:47Yeah.
- 43:48With that, let's just wrap our summer break, kind of a recap of summer break, and we'll
- 43:54head to our Dutch preview where Joe's obviously got his masterpiece.
- 43:57Let's do it.
- 44:10And with that, we have the Dutch Grand Prix preview.
- 44:15Actually, I think it, what is it?
- 44:16Is it the Heineken something or other?
- 44:18I got the name.
- 44:19Oh, he's got it.
- 44:20You know what, Joe, why don't you just take it away?
- 44:21Yeah, we're heading to the Netherlands for the Dutch Grand Prix.
- 44:23This year's Grand Prix is called the Formula One Heineken Dutch Grand Prix 2024.
- 44:27Nice and easy.
- 44:28Yeah, that is simple.
- 44:29Got the name, the year.
- 44:31What is it?
- 44:32Emirates, Emirates, how do you say the word?
- 44:35Emirates?
- 44:36Emirates?
- 44:37Arab Emirates.
- 44:38Emirates, yeah.
- 44:39Okay.
- 44:40I don't know why that.
- 44:41Emirates, Emirates Airways, blah, blah, blah.
- 44:42Yeah.
- 44:43It's the, yeah, the Monza Golf.
- 44:44Yeah.
- 44:45All right.
- 44:46So, we're heading to the Dutch Grand Prix, just some fun facts per usual.
- 44:49Zandvoort is the, if anyone doesn't know, is the track with all of those banking corners.
- 44:53Nescar.
- 44:54Yeah, exactly.
- 44:55So, in lieu of like actually kind of compared to that, the final corner features an 18 degree
- 45:00banking which is almost double the number seen at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
- 45:05Wow, well, Indy's very flat.
- 45:06Yeah, Indy's very flat.
- 45:07Oh, fair enough.
- 45:08Okay.
- 45:09For a, for a, like, I can't even call it an oval.
- 45:11It's more like a rectangle because they got four big old turns.
- 45:14Oh, okay.
- 45:15And the road course obviously is a little different inside.
- 45:17But if you're just doing the Speedway, that doesn't surprise me.
- 45:21Those turns are really banked, but those Indy cars still send them.
- 45:24I wonder how it compares.
- 45:25So, it's like the Indianapolis banking is not as much as like another, like Daytona.
- 45:29Oh, no.
- 45:30No, no, no.
- 45:31So, I wonder how those compare there.
- 45:32Daytona is extremely banked.
- 45:33Gotcha.
- 45:34Interesting.
- 45:35Okay.
- 45:36Can't imagine a nightmare set up on a car, like a stock car for Indy and then you go
- 45:41to like Daytona or something.
- 45:42Oh.
- 45:43I can't imagine.
- 45:44Oh, fair.
- 45:45I think every track is different for F1, too.
- 45:46Oh, yeah.
- 45:47Absolutely.
- 45:48Yeah.
- 45:49So, since the Dutch GMP has been on the, has been back on the calendar, it's only been
- 45:52three years, Max has taken all of the pole positions and has won all of the races.
- 45:58So is this the weekend to dethrone the king at his castle?
- 46:01No.
- 46:02It was a little cheesy, but we'll get into it.
- 46:04So, again, starting grid, Max, followed by Lando and then George with a surprise Alex
- 46:10Albon in fourth in the Williams.
- 46:13Very interesting qualifying session for him.
- 46:15He got up to fourth.
- 46:16This is a very interesting race.
- 46:18We'll kind of get into it.
- 46:19Off the line on dry tires, while the rain starts to drizzle onto the track, we saw everyone
- 46:24keep it in one piece through the first corner and through most of the lap.
- 46:27Max already with a decent head start on Lando.
- 46:30From fourth, Alonso made it path boasts, sorry, from fifth, Alonso makes it past both Albon
- 46:36and Russell in the banking hairpin of turn three.
- 46:39By the end of lap one, the drizzle, the starting line turned into what looks like a complete
- 46:42downpour.
- 46:44Everyone passes the pit lane, but at the end of that lap, a couple drivers finally decided
- 46:47to take the pit stop for inters to help fend off that rain.
- 46:51While some of our runners pit, Alonso overtakes Norris on the wet track for second place.
- 46:55This is a huge mix of strategies throughout the entire field.
- 46:59We saw some people decide to stay out and hope for the rain to clear, while others continued
- 47:03to pit to fend off the rain.
- 47:06At this point, however, the inters were much faster.
- 47:08Perez, who made the earlier inter choice, passed everyone ahead on the dries to take first
- 47:12position.
- 47:13By lap six, majority of the field had switched to inters.
- 47:16Soft runners and those who took the late pit stop were paying for it.
- 47:19Perez was still in first with Joe in second, who was up 13 places, just again based on
- 47:24pit strategy.
- 47:25And Verstappen, climbing back to third, 13 seconds away from Perez.
- 47:30He gets past Joe on lap seven.
- 47:33Short bit of rain, very heavy rain, but short bit, and this track dries up very quickly.
- 47:37So we get DRS enabled back on lap 11, and we're pitting for slicks again to begin.
- 47:44Max pits for those slicks on the next lap, having made over 10 seconds to Perez within
- 47:48those six laps.
- 47:49Perez pits on the next lap, giving Max the lead of the race while he's inside the pit
- 47:53lane.
- 47:54Everyone is now on softs, except for Joe, who's on mediums.
- 47:57On lap 16, Logan found his natural resting place into the wall, bringing out the full
- 48:01safety car.
- 48:02His natural resting place.
- 48:03His natural resting place, yeah.
- 48:06Leclerc retired the car in lap four.
- 48:08We jump now.
- 48:09Leclerc retired the car in lap 43 after taking some damage at the start of the race.
- 48:13And on lap 49, Alonso has some pit stop troubles being held up for 8.3 seconds.
- 48:18This allows signs ahead.
- 48:20He fights for the last podium position on lap 52 as he takes back from his fellow Spaniard.
- 48:26On lap 62, we find the rain coming down hard once again.
- 48:30All the drivers switch to enters fairly quickly.
- 48:32On lap 63, Sergio Perez double front locks at the end of the starting straight.
- 48:37He spins, hits the wall, and pushes the barriers back slightly.
- 48:40Doesn't look like he takes any damage here, except for the emotional damage of losing
- 48:44that second position.
- 48:46Later in the same lap.
- 48:47Emotional damage.
- 48:48Yep, emotional damage.
- 48:49Same lap, Joe is seen at the exact same spot Perez hit the wall, except Joe is completely
- 48:54buried into it, ending his race and bringing out the red flag.
- 48:58Unbelievable.
- 48:59At the restart, lap 67 of 72, everyone is on enters.
- 49:04Perez is given a penalty for speeding in the pit lane earlier in the race, so he will need
- 49:08to get 5 seconds ahead of Gasly to keep the final podium position, but he cannot make
- 49:12up that time.
- 49:14Max crosses 3.4 seconds ahead of second place, which was Alonso, after a hectic home Grand
- 49:19Prix.
- 49:20So he got a Verstappen, Alonso, Gasly.
- 49:22Perez pushed to fourth for his penalty and then signs, making Max's 9th consecutive win.
- 49:27Boom.
- 49:29That and that match the record for Vettel.
- 49:31Oh really?
- 49:32It did.
- 49:33Interesting.
- 49:34I got something for you.
- 49:36That's going to really mess with stuff.
- 49:38I looked up the weather.
- 49:39Is it going to be rainy?
- 49:41It is going to be rainy on Friday.
- 49:45And a little bit on Saturday.
- 49:47It is, how do I say it?
- 49:49Zandvoort?
- 49:50Netherlands?
- 49:51Yep.
- 49:52It is, let's see how 50% chance kind of Saturday.
- 49:56Fridays probably won't happen.
- 49:58Friday is only practice.
- 50:02But Saturday, yeah Saturday we got 50%.
- 50:06Sunday looks good though.
- 50:07Sunday looks good.
- 50:08It's too bad.
- 50:09I know, it would have made it a little bit more interesting.
- 50:12I mean that race last year was a bit crazy.
- 50:16It just like, you know, was dry and then rainy and then dry again.
- 50:19That just really throws a wrench into any strategy.
- 50:22Now I'm sure, like we mentioned, I'm sure you have planned A, B, C, D, E for all these
- 50:28other things in the race like coaching a football game.
- 50:31It's third and four and I'm going to call it this play for sure.
- 50:34You know, you got your list of strategies.
- 50:36Yeah and the weather just made it really interesting because like I said, this track dries so quickly
- 50:40that cars were just like, we should just wait out this rain, drive slowly on these softs
- 50:45and then when it comes to softs we don't have to pit again.
- 50:48But it was so wet that they just had to pit.
- 50:51So it makes us some very interesting strategy calls.
- 50:54I think like some of the people caught out was like McLaren.
- 50:58Lando started in second but I think he finished in like seventh or something like that just
- 51:01because he stayed on in softs too long.
- 51:03So very, very interesting in terms of strategy.
- 51:06Too bad it's not going to be a wet race but I still think it should be an interesting
- 51:09one.
- 51:10I think, interesting to say the least.
- 51:14It's definitely going to be interesting.
- 51:15I don't want to get into predictions quite yet.
- 51:19I do think Max will win the race again.
- 51:21It's just a spot, man.
- 51:23It's just a spot.
- 51:25Chako, where do you realistically see him finishing this week?
- 51:30I would like to think in points.
- 51:32I don't think, I actually think this is not a comeback weekend but I definitely think
- 51:39he's going to do better than he has been doing.
- 51:40Bounce back weekend maybe?
- 51:41Yeah, I think so maybe he's like top six probably.
- 51:46I hope so.
- 51:48That's what I'm saying.
- 51:49He's got to finish that sixth and then if I'm going to give him pity points, it's going
- 51:53to be seventh.
- 51:54I don't know.
- 51:55We got to see it from him this weekend.
- 51:58Can the McLarens, can Lando, I mean or Oscar really, can one of the McLarens actually catch
- 52:03Max here?
- 52:05Is it actually a realistic possibility?
- 52:08It's going to be so tough.
- 52:10I mean, at this point last year, the McLarens weren't the best car but they were getting
- 52:17better and Max still cleaned up here easily.
- 52:22So I don't think, I agree, I don't think there's any way Max doesn't win.
- 52:26If someone else does win instead of Max, that would be wild.
- 52:29Yeah, I would think so.
- 52:30But changing of the guard, especially if it's a McLaren car.
- 52:33Yeah, oh, that would be so good.
- 52:34I think if like George or Lewis somehow pulled it off or Charles, which I don't think is
- 52:39going to happen, but if like a Merc somehow won, it'd be like, oh, okay.
- 52:42But like if McLaren beats Red Bull at Max's track, like I just, I don't know, I don't
- 52:49know.
- 52:50It makes 2025 more interesting right off the bat for me, which is already going to be more
- 52:53interesting.
- 52:54Especially after the summer break, like it's just like a tonal shift, right?
- 52:57The end of the season is going to be different.
- 52:58Yeah.
- 52:59Think about the DTS story.
- 53:01This race would be, yeah, no, this would be a tone setter though.
- 53:05If McLaren comes out of break and beats Max at his own track, that is a tone setter.
- 53:11We are in for a ridiculous second half.
- 53:13That would be so crazy.
- 53:14That being said though, Max is very good at this track.
- 53:17I don't think he's going to lose it.
- 53:18There's that.
- 53:19Yeah.
- 53:20So why don't you give us, so Cole obviously is not here with us tonight, but he did give
- 53:24us his predictions.
- 53:26And so did Tyler.
- 53:27We're going to keep Tyler in the standings just in case he's able to return for us by
- 53:31the end of the season.
- 53:32So why don't you go ahead with Cole's predictions?
- 53:35Yeah.
- 53:36Again, this is just for the podium.
- 53:38There's no bonus points this week.
- 53:39We'll go back to the bonus points next week.
- 53:41Yeah.
- 53:42So this is just straight up podium who we got.
- 53:45Yep.
- 53:46Cole's prediction is Hamilton, Norris, and George.
- 53:49Which is wild.
- 53:50Wild.
- 53:51Max is not on that podium.
- 53:52I wonder, did I tell him, is it in there?
- 53:55Did I say it's a Dutch GP?
- 53:57No.
- 53:58Hey, that's up to him for not looking.
- 54:01I'm sorry.
- 54:02Lewis, who and who?
- 54:04Lewis, Lando, and George.
- 54:06Lando and George.
- 54:07Yeah.
- 54:08That's insane.
- 54:09Lando wins.
- 54:12And that at least George gets podium, or Lewis.
- 54:16Joe, what is your podium going to be?
- 54:18My podium is obviously Max, and then just kind of throwing out two competitors, Lando
- 54:24and George.
- 54:25Lando and George?
- 54:26Yep.
- 54:27I was thinking about, I think initially I had Lewis on there, but he had a little bit
- 54:33of trouble last year, I think here.
- 54:36So I'm just going to go George, just hope for the best.
- 54:39Fair enough.
- 54:40Fair enough.
- 54:41Tyler, in no particular order again.
- 54:44However, interestingly enough, he sent Lando first, but Lando, Max, Charles.
- 54:51Ferrari coming up.
- 54:52Which is interesting.
- 54:53It would be interesting if Ferrari was, does he know something we don't?
- 54:57I did not see anything about any upgrades for Ferrari coming up.
- 55:00Brake.
- 55:01Neither.
- 55:02They're falling behind and they didn't look strong this point last season, so I think
- 55:08they're probably still going to be third team on the grid.
- 55:13Third team on the grid?
- 55:16Or third or fourth.
- 55:18I'm thinking they're fourth.
- 55:20Well, I mean, you got Checo who isn't, you know.
- 55:23I know.
- 55:24He's not really, that's what I mean.
- 55:25They're like third and a half team.
- 55:27If Checo can do his job for me the rest of this season, beat Ferrari.
- 55:31Is doing your job for me, for Checo.
- 55:34If you can at least beat Ferrari, you know, but.
- 55:37Oh my God, yeah, Checo.
- 55:41It annoys me.
- 55:43I'm going to go with Max Lando, Oscar.
- 55:46I think McClane.
- 55:47I like that.
- 55:48Heck, you know I like that.
- 55:49I think I know.
- 55:50That's why I was waiting for you to say it.
- 55:51I was like, darn it, I'm going to have to change it up to make it interesting.
- 55:54But I'm glad you did it.
- 55:55Oscar had a really good last race.
- 55:56I think, you know, we just got to cool off a little bit.
- 55:58Yeah, you guys got to cool off.
- 56:00I haven't been choosing them, so I'm going to go ahead and take my risk.
- 56:04As it stands for our standings heading into this race, Cole's actually leading.
- 56:11But he's not here, so we don't count that.
- 56:13Tyler comes in second, one point behind Cole.
- 56:16He's not here, we don't count that.
- 56:17And then me, two points behind Tyler, so I'm in first.
- 56:20No, I'm in third.
- 56:22And then Joe's bringing it up, but he's only four points behind me at 21.
- 56:25Oh God, that's awful.
- 56:27I said only.
- 56:28You guys are like one point and then two points.
- 56:33You got to chip away.
- 56:34You got to focus on me first before you go step up to the big dog, Cole.
- 56:37I used to be at the top.
- 56:39It's true.
- 56:40It's true.
- 56:41I was taking risks early and now look at me.
- 56:43Well, I'm only in third too.
- 56:45But.
- 56:46I'm the Ferrari of this podium prediction.
- 56:52Yeah, for sure.
- 56:53Strong out the gate and falling behind.
- 56:55You're going to need some upgrades.
- 56:56Yeah, I'm more accurately, I'm probably the Aston Martin.
- 57:01Just consistently.
- 57:03Super strong at the front and then just consistently awful.
- 57:08Any parting thoughts for the Dutch GP here?
- 57:11I'm just really happy to be back.
- 57:12I'm looking forward to F1.
- 57:13I had a blast talking to you today.
- 57:16For sure.
- 57:17A lot of checko talk.
- 57:18We're going to be watching him very, very closely.
- 57:20We're on a checko watch right now.
- 57:22I think we're on a checko watch until the beginning of next season or at least off season
- 57:27and see if there's any rumblings this off season.
- 57:30Which I think it's going to be quiet immediately.
- 57:32Probably.
- 57:33Yeah, probably quiet pretty close to the end.
- 57:36But I mean, last off season, Hamilton moved to Ferrari.
- 57:40I know.
- 57:41Things can happen off season.
- 57:42Yeah.
- 57:43So on the checko watch for the rest of this season.
- 57:45But obviously, thanks for being here today, Joe.
- 57:48Thanks for having me.
- 57:49We'll have Cole back with us next week as we recap the Dutch GP.
- 57:54With that, obviously, don't forget to like, comment, subscribe, wherever you listen to
- 57:58the banter.
- 57:59And yeah, we'll see you next week on Fast Laps.
- 58:02See you.
- 58:03Don't forget to follow, like and subscribe.
- 58:04Tune in next time for more banter with the boys.
