Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Andrew Ordison, he's here for sport. Good morning.
- 0:02Speaker 2: You think it nice to be nice to be with
- 0:04Speaker 2: you role with that question, that's just roll that grenade
- 0:07Speaker 2: rolled in my direction.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I mean my theory is that and what do I know,
- 0:12Speaker 1: But we're more progressive as a country when it comes
- 0:15Speaker 1: to women's involvement in sports, and potentially I like that theory.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's maridown that hasn't always been the way.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Plus I think there's more. Well, it's a fact that
- 0:27Speaker 2: there's definite balance now can cross the competition. So women
- 0:30Speaker 2: are getting, you know, fifty percent of the positions to
- 0:32Speaker 2: even test in these events. So once upon a time
- 0:35Speaker 2: they are quite skewed in favor of men some of
- 0:38Speaker 2: the like the fragmants late the rowing or kayaking even
- 0:42Speaker 2: and those sorts of things. And that has now gone
- 0:43Speaker 2: back rightfully so so that you do have genuine equality
- 0:48Speaker 2: rather than just paying lip service to it. So that's
- 0:51Speaker 2: that's a good thing. And I think, yeah, I'm reluctant
- 0:53Speaker 2: to sort of weigh in on the you know, or
- 0:55Speaker 2: the women are better than men are better whatever argument,
- 0:57Speaker 2: because I think some of those athletes it just could
- 1:00Speaker 2: be celebrated the middle of the Olympic Games. That takes
- 1:03Speaker 2: a hell of an achievement to do that, and yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 2: it's it's a probably testament to the system and hopefully,
- 1:09Speaker 2: I mean just in the wider context of the Games
- 1:11Speaker 2: now for New Zealand, hopefully we're addressing the well being
- 1:14Speaker 2: element versus the performance and we're still coming up with
- 1:16Speaker 2: the medal, so hopefully that will continue, you know, in
- 1:19Speaker 2: the wake of you know what was some pretty devastating
- 1:21Speaker 2: scenes with the post Tokyo.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Absolutely and sticking with with cycling some fantastic yes results.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's that's the key sport, isn't it really with if
- 1:32Speaker 2: you're talking about the you know, the devastation with Olivia
- 1:34Speaker 2: Podmore posts Tokyo, and it just seemed to me, I'm
- 1:38Speaker 2: just just engauge here and anecdotally that they seem to
- 1:41Speaker 2: speak pretty authentically the cyclist this time. Andrews is a
- 1:44Speaker 2: terrific front person for that. I mean, winning the two
- 1:47Speaker 2: gold and the one silver, but even today we had
- 1:52Speaker 2: Ali Wallaston as well with the bronze to add to
- 1:54Speaker 2: her silver. I just thought they were great and just
- 1:57Speaker 2: it seemed that, yeah, that things may have changed in
- 2:00Speaker 2: their regard, which is an awesome thing in their program.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I watched the Simone Barles documentary yesterday on Netflix. Have
- 2:05Speaker 1: you seen that?
- 2:06Speaker 2: No? I haven't, but I've heard of it. Brilliant little
- 2:08Speaker 2: co quoted something out of it on the weekend when
- 2:10Speaker 2: she when she won so.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And she just talks about that. That's gear change that
- 2:15Speaker 1: they've had to have over there and coaching, where it
- 2:18Speaker 1: was just hard, hard hard work work, work, train train,
- 2:22Speaker 1: train until we break you, whereas now they'll take into account,
- 2:25Speaker 1: you know what you're actually thinking.
- 2:26Speaker 2: About all for the balance, you know, because just well
- 2:30Speaker 2: in the otherwise you're becoming like a the East German
- 2:33Speaker 2: system of the eighties or the Russian system, et cetera,
- 2:35Speaker 2: where you're expendable and you're yeah, like you say, until
- 2:38Speaker 2: you break and then okay, you're worthless to us. Now, Yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 2: that's that's not that's not sport at the at its
- 2:44Speaker 2: optimum level.
- 2:45Speaker 1: No, speaking of sport, not at its optimum level.
- 2:49Speaker 2: They've picked a good weekend to lose.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I think, yeah, well exactly that they're only losers in town, right,
- 2:56Speaker 1: everyone else's winning gold. But tell me what happened, because
- 2:59Speaker 1: I actually started watching it and I thought, no, this
- 3:01Speaker 1: will win, this and I just went, I did something
- 3:04Speaker 1: else and then we lost.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Well, I didn't see much of either because we were
- 3:07Speaker 2: commentating the Olympic Games, but it's I think, from what
- 3:10Speaker 2: I can gather, the Argentina just gritted it out more
- 3:13Speaker 2: and they've got that incredible forward pack et cetera. And yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 2: just they were better for the tasking Neil Blecks probably
- 3:19Speaker 2: just need to assess where their game plan is at. Yeah, especially,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I mean I think, yeah, it makes makes the Rugby
- 3:27Speaker 2: Championship all the more intriguing against you know, Straighters to
- 3:29Speaker 2: African Cita.
- 3:30Speaker 1: They true and that actually is They're playing an Auctord
- 3:33Speaker 1: next week coming Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Well, I mean I know they're talking about not that
- 3:36Speaker 2: many tickets were sold for Wellington, but I'll bet they'll
- 3:37Speaker 2: be sold out this weekend. Andrew, looking for the retribution.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We'll look forward to the game. Thank you very much, Andrew.
