Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jenjag.com and fueled by brass tax coffee right now We were talking Jaguars obviously we were talking Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line The Jaguars have all of their starters back from last year and They've got like all their depth back from last year too on the offensive line.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: They've got nine players That
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: got reps last year in the regular season back on this offensive line and it's an offensive line last year that I think, especially once, you know, Colvane Lane and entered the starting line up at left tackle, it's an offensive line that was very good in past protection and an offensive line that probably some, some, some, um,
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: missed opportunities by running backs made the the offensive line and the running game look a little bit weaker than it was overall, you know, Travis C. T. N. his vision has improved throughout his career.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: H. N. I should say, but I think it's still like the weakest area of his game.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think there was a little bit of a lack of confidence from basal to early on last year, just
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was trying not to make the mistake versus just like being himself.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: He has a level of creativity as a runner of wiggle, quickness, agility, all that stuff that I don't think you saw him full display last year.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the Jack Wars Offensive Line, if Colman Lannon is healthy, if he is able to play
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: However, I think that there should be competition.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there has been enough investment on the offensive line over the last couple of years that there should be legitimate competition at multiple spots.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna dive into that here today.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know in the comments section below.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: who you would like to see potentially get pushed, who you would like to potentially see enter the starting lineup.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: And for me, it's not.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like X player needs to not be on the field.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's like have competition at these spots and whoever wins the job wins the job.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: These coaches have the benefit of knowing how strong a player is mentally, knowing how strong a player is in the meeting rooms, in the weight room, on the practice field, the coaches get to go back and rewatch practice over and over and every rep, over and over.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: and really get a good idea of who is executing at a higher level and who deserves to be on the football field.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying X player needs to be out of the starting line up and X player needs to be in the starting line up.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm saying is, specifically for me, at right guard and center, I think there should be competition, but even at left guard.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm about as big of Ezra Cleveland fan as you'll find.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: But look, Emmanuel Pregnons a third round pick and Ezra Cleveland is not going to be in Jacksonville next year.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Bregnon probably should have been a second round pick.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: If he can compete for that job, let him.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying he'll be able to, as a rookie, because I think Ezra Cleveland is playing really, really strong football right now.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think Ezra Cleveland was,
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: the Jaguar's third best offensive lineman last year by a wide margin.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for me, it was Anton Harrison and Cole Van Lannon and then Ezra Cleveland.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Those were the Jaguar's best offensive lineman.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think all three of those players were rock solid and really good.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: And when I look at tackle,
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Anton Harrison obviously does not need competent push him.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously you want to push him, but that doesn't mean he needs to be in any danger of not being on the field.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean that guy has all-pro potential.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Colvin Lannon, so good.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: You just paid him, right?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: As long as he's healthy, he should be your starting left tackle, as long as he's able to actually play like he was before his knee injury at the end of last year.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: So Colvin Lane and Anton Harrison, I feel really good about the tackle spot, starting tackles.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Colvin Lane and his health is key to that, but I feel really good about those guys.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: I feel really good about Ezra Cleveland, but I like Emmanuel Pregnant a lot too.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, I am fine with seeing some competition there.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I look at right guard and Patrick McCarray, who's
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: main role throughout his career has been like your top backup chess piece that can literally play any spot on the offensive line.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's last year say, look, we're going to pay him to be a starter on the offensive line.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Not just a backup, but a key starter.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: $13 million per year and it wasn't a great year for him.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Was he playing through injury?
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that you need to get him off the field at all cost when healthy.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: What I am saying is I would like to see competition between him and why at my lumb and I thought why at my lumb when he was on the field and limited opportunities as a rookie equated himself well, this was a day to pick, right?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, let's see what why at my lumb's got.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to Patrick McCary.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: You signed him to a three-year deal before last year, but there is a team out after year two where the Jaguar is gonna save $13 million in cap space heading into 2027 if the Jaguar is decided to move on from a carry.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying they should, I mean,
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're not saying that at all, but I'm just saying they could if they want to.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: And $13 million is a lot to save against the cap for sure, especially when you got all these young players you want to keep around, Parker Washington, Antonio Johnson, you already signed Britain Strange and Travelling Walker, which is great Anton Harrison, potentially next off season.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot going on for sure.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think why at my home, I think
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Even Emmanuel Pregnant who has played more left guard in his train more at left guard could still compete at right guard and look if Patrick McCary holds them off can hold them off.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's absolutely great.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I think you've got
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Replayers that should really be competing for that job and then when it comes to center You know Robert Hansie is somebody very familiar with Liam Cohen very familiar with this offense I think he is like a team captain level leader and and just kind of a communicator upfront But in my opinion there's too many games
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: against really, really good competition, where it's like, how well is Robert Hainesy going to hold up in this game?
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think on an average week, Robert Hainesy's level of play is good enough.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: More than good enough.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: But there's times when you see him go up against elite players that it's not good enough.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, any center at times is going to struggle with players like Jeffrey Simmons, or, you know,
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: insert super star, you know, Chris Jones, but like there was games last year where like the Rams really kind of had their way with Robert Hansie, I thought the Texans did at times a little bit.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Jeffrey Simmons did.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: John O'Monheim is a really talented young player.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that he was able to play tackle and center at USC really impressive, I think that Jonah Monheim has a lot of potential.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And some little while at my home, like when he actually had to get on the field last year, I thought he played pretty well.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that Jonah Monheim deserves to be the Jaguar starter this year.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying I would like to see legitimate competition at the center.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's possible that Monheim could be a higher level center than Robert Hainesy.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's possible that Emmanuel Pregnant, or why at mylam, can be higher level guards than Patrick McCarrier as a Cleveland.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: And look, I may, again, once again, a huge, huge Ezra Cleveland fan.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he's a very good starter in this league and a very good starter in this offense.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I think competition is going to breed success on the interior of the offensive line for the Jaguars.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: There should be no competition at tackle.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And hey, I mean, a player I haven't mentioned yet, Walker Little.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I have no problem for him competing at guard either.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know a lot of fans probably want to get rid of them and the jag wars might be looking to deal him for the right price, just given his contract situation and everything and maybe a team needs him as a starter, but at guard last year he played really well.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't play so well at tackle obviously, but at guard he did.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely some things to be keeping an eye on throughout training camp is where about two weeks away from training camp now.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be fascinated to see is there any legitimate competition at center and right guard and even left guard.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: If there is, awesome, if there is not, I don't think it's the end of the world, like I think you can certainly make the playoffs and win a lot of games and be a very good team with with Hainsey, McCary and Cleveland, but I would encourage to push just for the best
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And if that's those three, that's great.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: But if one of those young guys or a couple of those young guys could step up and show their worth, that would be huge for the Jaguar's too.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content here, please like and subscribe.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a good one.
