- 0:00Speaker 1: On a Thursday afternoon. As we draw closer yet closer
- 0:05Speaker 1: to the weekend, we are still nine days away from
- 0:09Speaker 1: the college Football Playoff beginning. Yeah, I don't know about you, Cam,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but I've detected a little uptick just going around the
- 0:19Speaker 1: city and visiting with the merchants and stuff like that.
- 0:22Speaker 1: At this time of year, this holiday shopping time of season.
- 0:25Speaker 1: That's sorts of folks are getting little jazzed up. They're
- 0:28Speaker 1: geting a little fired up about all this.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fun. The expansion of the College Football Playoff,
- 0:32Speaker 2: the first time we have home field games for College
- 0:36Speaker 2: Football Playoff teams. That always adds more interest. And if
- 0:40Speaker 2: you're the home city for one of the hosts, I mean,
- 0:43Speaker 2: the interest for this game is probably maybe not the
- 0:46Speaker 2: same as it was for the Georgia game, but it's
- 0:48Speaker 2: up there.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You know.
- 0:49Speaker 2: It's probably the second biggest home game for Texas this season.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Of course, they had a you know, a pretty week
- 0:54Speaker 2: home schedule this year with A and M and College
- 0:57Speaker 2: Station and Oklahoma always up at the Cotton. So this
- 1:01Speaker 2: is a fun event. I think everyone's excited. And also
- 1:03Speaker 2: you have the the sudden death nature to it, right,
- 1:06Speaker 2: you win, you advance you lose, you go home. And
- 1:10Speaker 2: but we do know win or lose, it is the
- 1:11Speaker 2: final home game for Textas, no matter what.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And you know you brought this up
- 1:19Speaker 1: about the home game thing, and we went over the
- 1:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty five schedule for the Longhorns earlier in the
- 1:26Speaker 1: program this afternoon. But it does bear some repeating on
- 1:30Speaker 1: this and that. And I know some folks have grumbled
- 1:33Speaker 1: about said, wow, this home schedule is not so much. Listen,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's gonna be what it's gonna be the next two years.
- 1:39Speaker 1: After twenty five, you're gonna have Ohio State at home,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and you're gonna have Michigan at home. Michigan maybe back
- 1:44Speaker 1: up and full throttle again by then. If you ask
- 1:48Speaker 1: Ohio State, people will say they were full throttle a
- 1:51Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. They took care of business on that.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So you know, we'll find out, certainly. But you know that, yes,
- 2:02Speaker 1: San Jose State and UTEP is not gonna exactly jazz
- 2:06Speaker 1: you up that sort of thing, but you're going to have,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know, some some teams at home. You're gonna have
- 2:14Speaker 1: to deal with the Aggies at home. You're gonna play
- 2:16Speaker 1: Arkansas at home. You're gonna have that. So, yeah, there's
- 2:19Speaker 1: there's something to that for twenty twenty five. But as
- 2:22Speaker 1: you point out this, I want to get Georgia. It's
- 2:25Speaker 1: kind of weird to say this, but I see where
- 2:27Speaker 1: you're going with it, that it's the quote unquote second
- 2:32Speaker 1: biggest home game of the season. Now, wait a minute,
- 2:34Speaker 1: it's a playoff. Playoff. Yeah, playoff. If you don't win,
- 2:40Speaker 1: the season's over. So that in itself should probably indicate
- 2:45Speaker 1: that it's the most important game. But I get what
- 2:48Speaker 1: you mean and what others would think as well, because
- 2:50Speaker 1: at the time, remember Texas was number one when they
- 2:52Speaker 1: we're playing Georgia and then fell off of the off
- 2:57Speaker 1: of the pedestal with Georgia's thirty to fifteen win back
- 3:00Speaker 1: on October nineteenth. And there are those who are saying that,
- 3:07Speaker 1: you know, maybe who knows, maybe down the road they
- 3:09Speaker 1: meet one more time. If they did, that would be
- 3:12Speaker 1: once more back in Atlanta Mercedes Benz Station Stadium. It
- 3:15Speaker 1: would once more be Texas and Georgia, and this time
- 3:20Speaker 1: it would be for a national championship if it happened.
- 3:23Speaker 1: But there's a lot of hay to go into the barn. First,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I don't know about you. Cam. Also the other thing,
- 3:30Speaker 1: what is quickly becoming I think one of the most
- 3:36Speaker 1: oft asked questions, not questions, one of the most off
- 3:42Speaker 1: repeated phrases that I've heard of the past five days.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And I quote this is the quote from talking to
- 3:53Speaker 1: lots of different long worn fans. The quote is I
- 3:57Speaker 1: like our path. That's I've heard that quite a bit.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If I'll be I'll be honest with you, if I
- 4:04Speaker 1: had a dollar for every time I heard somebody say
- 4:07Speaker 1: I like our path or I like the path, because
- 4:10Speaker 1: I've heard both, I like the path or I like
- 4:13Speaker 1: our path. In terms of Texas, if if if I
- 4:16Speaker 1: had a dollar for, I could probably get us like
- 4:21Speaker 1: lunch at Sonic or something or you know someplace you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: who knows, maybe we'd see uh. But a lot of
- 4:31Speaker 1: long worn fans like it. But long worn fans, like
- 4:36Speaker 1: most fans of big college football programs, tend to get
- 4:40Speaker 1: a little cart before Horsey. There are games we played,
- 4:43Speaker 1: starting with this Clemson game, and then if you win that, yeah,
- 4:45Speaker 1: you got to go to Atlanta and a second time,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and you've got to beat an Arizona State team that
- 4:53Speaker 1: people have been counting out all season long, that was
- 4:56Speaker 1: picked to finish in dead last in the Big Twelve Conference,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and they he won the Big Twelve Conference. And they
- 5:01Speaker 1: have a talented quarterback in Sam Levitt, and they have
- 5:04Speaker 1: one of the best running backs in the nation. And
- 5:06Speaker 1: Cam Skataboo in fact, and I'm on record as saying this,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I get Travis Hunter. He's gonna win the Heisman Trophy.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He's gonna win. He was named the AP Player of
- 5:17Speaker 1: the Year today and he'll win other like water Camp
- 5:21Speaker 1: and other awards, probably today tonight at the College Football
- 5:26Speaker 1: Award Show. He'll do that. But I don't think he
- 5:30Speaker 1: was and I certainly don't think Shaduur Sanders was the
- 5:35Speaker 1: best offensive player in the Big Twelve this year. I
- 5:37Speaker 1: think it was Cam Skataboo, the running back, and he's
- 5:41Speaker 1: got the numbers to back it up, so they'd have
- 5:43Speaker 1: to deal with them. Yes, Texas has done well against
- 5:45Speaker 1: the run this year, but my point is that sometimes
- 5:47Speaker 1: folks get a little cart before Horsey on this kind
- 5:51Speaker 1: of thing. So you got to deal with those two
- 5:53Speaker 1: and then even after that, if you win those two games,
- 5:55Speaker 1: in all probability, you're in Jerry World. You're in Arlington
- 6:00Speaker 1: in the Cotton Bowl game in the semi finals. And oh,
- 6:02Speaker 1: by the way, it's Oregon number one team in the country,
- 6:05Speaker 1: the only unbeaten team left in college football if if
- 6:09Speaker 1: you handle your business in those first two games. So
- 6:13Speaker 1: things are far from a sure, but it is cool
- 6:16Speaker 1: that they're getting to participate in this twelve team playoff
- 6:19Speaker 1: for the first time. It is cool also that they
- 6:21Speaker 1: get to host a playoff game first time ever in
- 6:24Speaker 1: the twelve team field for in first time ever to
- 6:27Speaker 1: have home playoff games. So I think that's pretty cool.
- 6:30Speaker 2: For sure. It is And I think what Texas fans
- 6:32Speaker 2: and even the narrative from the media about having the
- 6:35Speaker 2: best path the College Football Playoff Championship is that you
- 6:39Speaker 2: avoid Oregon or Georgia in the second round. And I
- 6:42Speaker 2: think that's huge. Whether it's Arizona State or Boise State.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think you'd rather play a Boise State than Arizona State.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But you still get Arizona State, who, for all the
- 6:50Speaker 2: reasons you mentioned Craig a good football team, but they're
- 6:53Speaker 2: not in the same level as Oregon or a Georgia
- 6:56Speaker 2: team that has beaten Texas twice. You know, Georgia just
- 6:59Speaker 2: appears to be the a Killes Seal for Texas, and
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm sure they would love to see them one more
- 7:02Speaker 2: time in Atlanta. You know, it's hard to beat a
- 7:04Speaker 2: team twice, certainly hard to beat him three times in
- 7:07Speaker 2: one season. But for Texas, a Clemson team that I
- 7:12Speaker 2: think a lot of people don't believe they should be
- 7:14Speaker 2: in there now. They won their ACC championship, and a
- 7:16Speaker 2: lot of that has to do with, you know, Miami
- 7:18Speaker 2: falling apart in their secondary. But it's a Clemson team
- 7:20Speaker 2: that has struggled this season. But they do have Kaid Klebnick,
- 7:24Speaker 2: who's got the Austin ties. Of course, you have Ian
- 7:26Speaker 2: Reed who has the Austin ties. In Dabo Sweeney, he
- 7:30Speaker 2: understands the underdog narrative. And it's a Clemson team or
- 7:34Speaker 2: a Clemson program that is upset Alabama twice, right, and
- 7:36Speaker 2: they won of those games as underdog. So you know
- 7:39Speaker 2: DABA will be preaching the underdog sentiment. I mean, SMU
- 7:43Speaker 2: was favored I think over Clemson. I'm sure he went
- 7:45Speaker 2: with that underdog narrative and he'll be using it again
- 7:48Speaker 2: next week.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I agree with all of that, and it's a
- 7:53Speaker 1: good enough football team to beat you if you're not
- 7:56Speaker 1: on your game. Any of these teams that are in
- 7:58Speaker 1: the twelve team playoff, any of them are good enough
- 8:01Speaker 1: to beat any of the other teams. Look at Boise,
- 8:04Speaker 1: he State in Oregon. It was a three point game
- 8:05Speaker 1: in Eugene at the start. Any of these teams are
- 8:09Speaker 1: good enough to beat any other of the teams in
- 8:13Speaker 1: the field. Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon. No matter what you
- 8:17Speaker 1: say a notre dame, that these teams are all good
- 8:21Speaker 1: enough to beat one another if the other team is
- 8:23Speaker 1: not completely on its game. That's the point. That's the
- 8:26Speaker 1: point I'm making about this. Having said all that, I
- 8:29Speaker 1: understand and don't necessarily disagree. In fact, I don't disagree
- 8:34Speaker 1: with those who say they like the path that Texas has.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It's a workable path to get to the semifinals if
- 8:42Speaker 1: you handle your business and play as was right. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'm also curious to see how the guys kind of
- 8:47Speaker 1: heal up. You know, quin yours is not one hundred percent.
- 8:51Speaker 1: We know that hasn't been. And he's on the mend.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Having a bye week this week helps. He's on the
- 8:58Speaker 1: mend with the ankle and the over league. And then
- 9:01Speaker 1: you worry about Kevin Banks won the Lombardi last night.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Great for him. He's you know, he's working toward being ready.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I mean, he did go through warm ups before the
- 9:12Speaker 1: Georgia game and then they just deemed he could not go.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So one would imagine if he was good enough to
- 9:17Speaker 1: go through warmups probably two weeks later, that he might
- 9:22Speaker 1: be ready to roll. I would imagine he probably would
- 9:25Speaker 1: be ready to roll against Clemson. So we'll find out,
- 9:27Speaker 1: all right. Up next, we're going to hear the second
- 9:29Speaker 1: part of Rodney Terry's meeting with the media from yesterday
- 9:34Speaker 1: previewing tonight's matchup on the floor at Moody Center between
- 9:39Speaker 1: Texas and New Mexico State. So we'll hear more of
- 9:42Speaker 1: that coming up from RT, and we'll continue here in
- 9:45Speaker 1: this four o'clock hour. Of course, you can hear the
- 9:47Speaker 1: game six thirty airtimes seven o'clock tip off right here
- 9:52Speaker 1: on AM thirteen under the Zone, as well as on
- 9:54Speaker 1: ninety eight point one FMKVET, so it'll be on there
- 9:58Speaker 1: as well. So we'll bring that to you tonight. But
- 10:01Speaker 1: we'll hear more from Rodney Terry coming up next here
- 10:03Speaker 1: on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone
