- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, here's your last question. What was the cause
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the Civil War?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Actually, there were numerous causes aside from the obvious schism
- 0:07Speaker 2: between abolitionists and anti abolitionists. Economic factors, both domestic and
- 0:12Speaker 2: international data significant.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Yeah, just say slavery, Slaverty, it is sir.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yes, I am a citizen. Now which way to the
- 0:22Speaker 3: welfare office?
- 0:23Speaker 4: What I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I work.
- 0:26Speaker 5: I work Four Finger Discounting.
- 0:45Speaker 6: Welcome to a very special episode of four Finger discount
- 0:47Speaker 6: We're doing a classic review today. We're going all the
- 0:50Speaker 6: way back to the end of season seven, not quite
- 0:52Speaker 6: the finale, but near the end of season seven, my
- 0:55Speaker 6: favorite season of the Simpsons of all time. It is
- 0:57Speaker 6: much pu about Nothing. One of my least favorite episodes
- 0:59Speaker 6: when I was kid, but I really enjoyed it this time.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm Dan though, and I am gay. Yes, back again,
- 1:06Speaker 1: your favorite podcaster talking about much of poolban nothing very
- 1:10Speaker 1: relevant in these times. He's got to do with elections,
- 1:13Speaker 1: got to do with it against That's what I was thinking.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'm just thinking.
- 1:15Speaker 6: You know, Trump's just been put into this, paw. Don't
- 1:17Speaker 6: worry you guys, We're not be going into political tirade.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Here, Who's Trump?
- 1:20Speaker 6: We're keeping politics out of this. I just thought it
- 1:22Speaker 6: would be somewhat relevant to review this episode now because
- 1:24Speaker 6: it's amazing to think that this episode aired in nineteen
- 1:27Speaker 6: ninety six, right, and the jokes land just as hard
- 1:31Speaker 6: now as they did in nineteen ninety six. It's actually
- 1:34Speaker 6: quite amazing.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yes, one one feels I'm sorry to keep bringing up
- 1:37Speaker 1: this particular episode, but one gets the feeling the writers
- 1:39Speaker 1: of E Pluribus Wigham could take a leaf out of
- 1:43Speaker 1: this particular episode. The writing of this particular episode, stay evergreen.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Don't bring in actual named politicians that's going to date
- 1:51Speaker 6: the episode.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So we can talk about political situations, talk about social
- 1:54Speaker 1: situation that you know is always going to stick around.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That people always racist, are always going to stick around.
- 2:00Speaker 1: People are always going to get fired up by hot
- 2:03Speaker 1: button topics. They're going to be herded like sheep or
- 2:05Speaker 1: like cattle, and politicians are going to take advance. Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 6: Now, I brought up that I didn't like this one
- 2:10Speaker 6: much when I was a kid, Right. I think it's
- 2:12Speaker 6: just mainly because I didn't quite understand what was going
- 2:14Speaker 6: on and.
- 2:14Speaker 1: A pooh, it just that's why. I guess that's just it.
- 2:18Speaker 6: I just didn't understand what was going on. I didn't
- 2:19Speaker 6: understand politics or what much. And I still don't even
- 2:21Speaker 6: understand politics all that much now right, particularly American politics.
- 2:24Speaker 6: But as a child, I'm watching this going there's no
- 2:27Speaker 6: jokes here. It's just like a poo's just being picked on.
- 2:29Speaker 6: I don't understand quite why, because when you're a kid,
- 2:33Speaker 6: the idea of us in them that doesn't enter the equation.
- 2:35Speaker 6: You know, it's not to you. You get older and
- 2:37Speaker 6: you start watching the news and you get yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Not that kind of structural bigotary everything like that. I'd
- 2:42Speaker 1: have an immigrant I thought, yeah, just what's wrong with it?
- 2:44Speaker 1: Why can't I pooh? Stay? But what did he do wrong?
- 2:46Speaker 6: Do you understand it?
- 2:47Speaker 1: If you're a kid and you don't like someone, you
- 2:49Speaker 1: just don't like someone. You don't have any underlying reason
- 2:52Speaker 1: for it, just like they stole my lunchables or something. Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Well, I actually had my first dealings with racism with Alliot,
- 2:59Speaker 6: not that that he's racist, but the idea of black
- 3:01Speaker 6: and white the other day because he's been watching Australia
- 3:03Speaker 6: versus Pakistan all right, playing cricket, and he just assumed
- 3:08Speaker 6: because we had remember and stayed recently the eleventh eleventh
- 3:10Speaker 6: right here in Australia, we have remember remembering our war veterans.
- 3:14Speaker 6: And he just assumed, I don't understand why where it
- 3:16Speaker 6: came from. But he goes, did white people win? All
- 3:19Speaker 6: black people win? And I went, that's not what the
- 3:21Speaker 6: war was, buddy, I said, we're all people. Because if
- 3:23Speaker 6: you be watching the cricket, he just assumed white Australians
- 3:26Speaker 6: playing black Pakistan. I think that's where it came into it.
- 3:28Speaker 1: That's where, yeah, you get the feeling, Oh okay, there's
- 3:30Speaker 1: what all conflict is like. Yeah, well, good for you
- 3:33Speaker 1: for sending him straight. And I mean, yeah, I imagine
- 3:36Speaker 1: that's a really interesting embracing part of being a parent
- 3:38Speaker 1: because you sort of think about these things and the hypothetical.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well when yeah, the kid actually says it and you know,
- 3:44Speaker 1: in a wholly innocent way.
- 3:45Speaker 6: That's it. It's innocent. You can't tell him off, you
- 3:48Speaker 6: can't grow he doesn't mean anything by it, no, no, no.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And if I imagine if you did growl at him, yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: that's going to set a bad precedent. Yeah you're going
- 3:55Speaker 1: to have a bad time.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Yeah, you're going to have a bad time. But I
- 3:59Speaker 6: had a really good time watching this episode because as
- 4:01Speaker 6: an adult, I think this episode is absolutely fantastic as
- 4:04Speaker 6: a I'm gonna say as a Simpsons episode, it's not
- 4:08Speaker 6: a great Simpsons episode because I don't think kids can
- 4:11Speaker 6: really enjoy this one all that much. This one is
- 4:14Speaker 6: definitely for the adults at home, I think.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So. I mean, it's yeah, you're right, it's not appealing
- 4:18Speaker 1: to kids. But at the same time, I don't think
- 4:21Speaker 1: it is sidelining or anything like that. I think it's boring. No, no,
- 4:27Speaker 1: it's it's not boring. But the problem I think it's
- 4:29Speaker 1: got some gags in it. You're right, they're not your
- 4:32Speaker 1: traditional kind of boom gags. They require a little bit thought.
- 4:35Speaker 6: They're a little not trimopoline or anything like that. It's
- 4:38Speaker 6: not trimapoline. It's not that kind of notol. But the
- 4:41Speaker 6: thing is, I feel I've gone back to when I
- 4:43Speaker 6: was a kid watching this episode for the first time,
- 4:45Speaker 6: and why it didn't really resonate with me is that
- 4:48Speaker 6: I guess it kind of left me feeling not dumb,
- 4:50Speaker 6: but confused, going, well, this is I guess this is
- 4:54Speaker 6: It must be funny, but I'm not getting it. So
- 4:56Speaker 6: it's kind of like when you go to a trivia
- 4:57Speaker 6: night and it's too hard, you think, well, this isn't fun.
- 4:59Speaker 6: I guess this episode wasn't fun because I didn't get it.
- 5:03Speaker 1: You know, well, how'd you feel about what? How did
- 5:05Speaker 1: you feel watching him there?
- 5:06Speaker 6: I thought it was fantastic. As I said, I just
- 5:08Speaker 6: could not believe how relatable it was still in twenty
- 5:11Speaker 6: twenty four as it was in nine ninety six. Just
- 5:13Speaker 6: Moe's let's get the favorite moments. Okay, my favorite Moe's
- 5:20Speaker 6: use of the word immigrants, slavey, you know what it is, mimigans.
- 5:26Speaker 6: And then the payoff being that he is one. That's
- 5:30Speaker 6: that's his way of covering up for hiding it.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I love that everyone sort of starts to catch his
- 5:38Speaker 1: disease in a way then made bad disease Ben Lee La.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Then I mean, it was a weird looking kid.
- 5:46Speaker 6: It's a weird looking He always looked like the guy,
- 5:48Speaker 6: the guy who was originally hired to play the voice
- 5:51Speaker 6: of Tigger in the Christopher Robin Love action film, who
- 5:54Speaker 6: Jim ended up replacing. He's from the Boat that rocked.
- 5:59Speaker 6: He's in the Boat that rock Uh maybe in the
- 6:02Speaker 6: it crowd. He's one of those English actors who like
- 6:05Speaker 6: almost broke into Hollywood and was in a few movies,
- 6:07Speaker 6: but he never really hit that sort of.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Like top level start it crowd cut. I think it's
- 6:11Speaker 1: it crowd. Chris so Downri dow that's the one, Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 1: Chris down. It looks very similar to each other they do.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Chris O'Dowd is kind of like the is the better
- 6:19Speaker 1: looking version of Bentley. Yeah, well, due respect to Ben Lee. Yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 1: he's married to Ione Sky, the girl from Say Anything.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Oh damn well on Ben Lee, he's probably like what
- 6:29Speaker 1: this podcast, but it was even shots at he was.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Like the Triple J Golden Boy Bentley very much growing. Yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 6: in the eighties and nineties one eighty sorry in the
- 6:38Speaker 6: nineties four.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He started young. He started young. Why was I talking
- 6:44Speaker 1: about that? Catch my Disease? Oh yes, every mode Springfield
- 6:48Speaker 1: is just mangling. The English language reminds me of reminds
- 6:53Speaker 1: you of Django unchained a little bit, because Christoph Walter's
- 6:57Speaker 1: playing this German bounty hunter and he's got a much
- 6:59Speaker 1: better vocabulary even though it's a native German speaker than
- 7:02Speaker 1: any of the native English speakers.
- 7:04Speaker 6: I love that part film that our man let A
- 7:06Speaker 6: Malten doesn't like all that much. Jango unchained, that's true.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We can start talking about the movie guide.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Yeah, it's alive now and it's already top two. Let's
- 7:14Speaker 6: get to number one people for the film interviews. In
- 7:17Speaker 6: Australia it is number two. It is top twenty for
- 7:19Speaker 6: TV and film overall. In Britain it's in top thirty
- 7:22Speaker 6: and in the US it's now top fifty. So let's
- 7:24Speaker 6: boost it up those rankings. The movie guy with Malton
- 7:27Speaker 6: and Davis.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And we got one very nice review from someone called
- 7:29Speaker 1: mclovin in the.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, thank you for your review. If you're out
- 7:32Speaker 6: there listening right now, thank you for that review. And
- 7:34Speaker 6: let It appreciates it as well.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He certainly does. Are we doing more favorite moments? Do
- 7:38Speaker 1: you want?
- 7:38Speaker 6: Yeah, let's do it. But I want to pose this
- 7:40Speaker 6: question in case I forget sure, is Mo racist or
- 7:46Speaker 6: is Mo an immigrant who is posing as a racist
- 7:49Speaker 6: American to hide.
- 7:50Speaker 1: The fact that he's an immigrant?
- 7:52Speaker 6: Is that the layer of joke there?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Or is there something else? Is her self loathing? Yeah? Yeah?
- 7:56Speaker 6: What's as many layers to this character?
- 7:58Speaker 1: There are, indeed, on on the level on.
- 8:01Speaker 6: The top, it just seems like he's just being a
- 8:04Speaker 6: racist because it seems to fit his character. Well, I mean,
- 8:07Speaker 6: he's bitter and he's just you know, but you've.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Got the message at the end of the episode. I mean,
- 8:11Speaker 1: I think it's great how you've got the resolution, but
- 8:13Speaker 1: then you have sort of had this little code at
- 8:15Speaker 1: the end, which is really doing a South Park and
- 8:17Speaker 1: spelling out the message of the episode, which is basically
- 8:21Speaker 1: any Western country or any America Australia like it's built
- 8:27Speaker 1: on immigrants.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's a great salad bowl of all these
- 8:32Speaker 1: different ingredients that you know, retain their own individual flavor
- 8:35Speaker 1: but also contribute to the whole. It's great.
- 8:37Speaker 6: But what else were your favorite moments, because I've got
- 8:39Speaker 6: in mine. I really liked the music at the start.
- 8:44Speaker 6: It was the Simpsons theme, but it had it was
- 8:46Speaker 6: a different spin. I don't think I've actually seen this
- 8:48Speaker 6: version of the theme used all that much, but it's
- 8:51Speaker 6: such a really set the tone of how they wanted
- 8:53Speaker 6: you to feel watching this. It's like Flanners is freaking out.
- 8:58Speaker 6: This is he thinks this massive threat in this bear right,
- 9:00Speaker 6: but the music is playing this bubbly. It's like acknowledging. No,
- 9:04Speaker 6: everything's fine, everything's all good. This bear is not here
- 9:07Speaker 6: to harm anybody. But as people, Aslander says, just freaks
- 9:11Speaker 6: out for no reason.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I guess it's not.
- 9:13Speaker 6: For no reasons. It's a bear. It's a bear, yes,
- 9:15Speaker 6: but the bears not attacking him.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No, but you do want to be worried about that?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Or no? Having said that, are you aware of the
- 9:22Speaker 1: bear color rhyme?
- 9:23Speaker 6: Color rhyme?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yes? No, if you well, I imagine this American black
- 9:29Speaker 1: or brown or whatever. I have heard it. It's brown,
- 9:31Speaker 1: lay down if it's black, fight back if it's white.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Good night? Really yea in trouble Yeah. Mcaulay Colton taught us.
- 9:39Speaker 6: That if you ever see it, well, if you ever
- 9:40Speaker 6: see it, if you ever come face to face of
- 9:42Speaker 6: a polar bear, you deserve it because it means you've
- 9:44Speaker 6: gone out of your way to jump into the enclosure
- 9:47Speaker 6: to zoo or you're going to an tired to go
- 9:48Speaker 6: and come face. Look, it takes a lot of effort
- 9:51Speaker 6: to become face to face of a polar bear right
- 9:53Speaker 6: just roam in the wild. No.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I mean they probably have them at zoos.
- 9:57Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. Either jump into an enclosure, or
- 9:59Speaker 6: you're going to an and you've gone down the wrong way.
- 10:01Speaker 6: But the Simpsons mickey out of that when they go
- 10:04Speaker 6: if it's if it's brown, something down, if it's black,
- 10:07Speaker 6: take it back. It's something. Homer says that with bananas.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Perhaps maybe I'm too sure, and I thought, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I thought you were about to use the toilet code
- 10:17Speaker 1: if it's yellow leaded melon.
- 10:19Speaker 6: I'll franky ate that quote. Why you tell me what
- 10:20Speaker 6: other moments you liked about this episode?
- 10:23Speaker 1: This had bits and pieces that have shown up in
- 10:26Speaker 1: just popular culture in general, or have been used by
- 10:29Speaker 1: various podcasters or vloggers or whatever. I mean, of course
- 10:32Speaker 1: we've got I forgot that this was think of the children,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and this was the one that was really used a lot.
- 10:37Speaker 6: Well, I think, just in this era. I've got that
- 10:40Speaker 6: in my notes as well. I'm like, wow, I've got
- 10:42Speaker 6: how often they use Helen love Joy because she doesn't
- 10:44Speaker 6: get used anywhere near as often anymore. When somebody please
- 10:47Speaker 6: think of the children, whenever there was that crisis mob mentality,
- 10:50Speaker 6: she was always there saying it, Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Please think of the good, somebody please think of the children.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I love that.
- 10:55Speaker 6: I'll make you Roswell.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Something else that I've heard a lot, particularly on political
- 11:00Speaker 1: podcast I found by the way, I found the quote
- 11:03Speaker 1: from Homer po Looser episode we were reviewed in recent times.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Is it true that we have to bring our own water?
- 11:09Speaker 6: We got a little rule back home. If it's brown,
- 11:10Speaker 6: trick it down. If it's black, send it back, but continue.
- 11:15Speaker 1: One that I enjoyed was poo giving a very studied
- 11:19Speaker 1: and knowledgeable response to the reasons of the Civil War.
- 11:22Speaker 6: You might as well.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Just say slavery.
- 11:25Speaker 6: That was honestly, I've gotten my notes. That takes me
- 11:27Speaker 6: back to when we used to do our forkliff license
- 11:30Speaker 6: or our dogging license as we call it as it's
- 11:33Speaker 6: called in Australia. In u k. It's something very different.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It sure is.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Yes, I've got both licenses here in Australia.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Good for you.
- 11:41Speaker 6: But when you have to drive the overhead crane or whatever,
- 11:43Speaker 6: you have to get the license and you go there
- 11:45Speaker 6: and basically the teacher there his job is to make
- 11:48Speaker 6: sure everyone passes. So as long as you are competent
- 11:50Speaker 6: enough to answer the basics, you're going to pass it
- 11:52Speaker 6: and I'll be there going. He's like just fucking yes
- 11:56Speaker 6: or no. I'm like yes, He's like, good, you don't
- 11:59Speaker 6: have to prove anything to me, buddy.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I went to get what's called my white card because.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Them blacks no way just to prove them away. I've
- 12:11Speaker 6: got my white card, people, damn.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Basically, I'm all about the side hustle, and this is
- 12:19Speaker 1: a white card. Is what you get to be a
- 12:22Speaker 1: lot of guys stop a stop gog. I've got one
- 12:24Speaker 1: a traffic and trouble. Could we just have to do
- 12:25Speaker 1: it forward when they were driving stuff around. I've got
- 12:27Speaker 1: a white card. Yeah great, I have not used it.
- 12:30Speaker 6: It makes you feel like a real man when you
- 12:32Speaker 6: got one of those cars, doesn't it. I've got your
- 12:33Speaker 6: crane license, Like.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Whoa, I've got my white cab. My high is good
- 12:37Speaker 1: to go.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Except I've got my because the licenses used to last
- 12:41Speaker 6: eight years, and mine ran out, ran out in November
- 12:44Speaker 6: this month, runs out the end of this month because
- 12:46Speaker 6: that's when Ford closed, and they issue right near before
- 12:49Speaker 6: Ford closed, Like, we'll renew it now for you guys,
- 12:51Speaker 6: just so you've got it for another eight years for
- 12:53Speaker 6: when you want to work some other alp somewhere else
- 12:55Speaker 6: if you do get another job. And it was like
- 12:57Speaker 6: just letting you know, yeah, Crane and your fok of
- 12:58Speaker 6: lis is all going to run out in November twy
- 13:00Speaker 6: third or whatever. And I was like, oh, I feel.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Like a real man. That's man on the roadcast of
- 13:06Speaker 1: these days. I'm doing the real heavy lifting. But yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I've got the wake up of that. But yeah, when
- 13:13Speaker 1: we did the course, for it to actually obtain it,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you're basically given the ass Oh yes, I think that
- 13:19Speaker 1: basically holds your hand.
- 13:20Speaker 6: The teachers hold your hand through the whole thing because
- 13:21Speaker 6: they need you to pass because if they if you fail,
- 13:24Speaker 6: it reflects poorly on the teacher. It was the same
- 13:26Speaker 6: for high school. We had a German teacher who basically
- 13:28Speaker 6: would just give you the answers because the school needed
- 13:31Speaker 6: to for the language classes. The school got special funding
- 13:35Speaker 6: for it. But if if the students don't pass at
- 13:38Speaker 6: a certain level, they cut the funding. So the teachers
- 13:40Speaker 6: basically make sure that you pass so the school keeps
- 13:43Speaker 6: getting the funding.
- 13:44Speaker 1: The whole system. Man, it's a little shunking. I loved
- 13:49Speaker 1: Homer at the end making his speech. If I could
- 13:53Speaker 1: say a few words, it would be a better public speaking.
- 13:56Speaker 6: I know you'd love this.
- 13:57Speaker 1: It's great I've got to use that all the time.
- 13:58Speaker 6: No one quotes anywhere near enough. It's such a good line.
- 14:02Speaker 6: It feels kind of odd that Homer says it.
- 14:04Speaker 1: It's a very dad joke.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Yeah no, still, but I feel like it's even too
- 14:07Speaker 6: sophisticated for Homer to say. Who would be the perfect
- 14:10Speaker 6: character for that? Do you think be a better public speaker?
- 14:13Speaker 6: Doctor Hibbert?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:15Speaker 6: Maybe, Yeah, it feels right for Homer.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It feels like he he heard it somewhere. He probably
- 14:21Speaker 1: heard it from doctor Hibbert, or he was at some
- 14:23Speaker 1: events like, oh this is boring, and you know, then
- 14:25Speaker 1: someone got it. Well, if I can say a few words, well,
- 14:28Speaker 1: i'd be a bit of public speaker. I think it's home.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I would think that would just be the goal.
- 14:32Speaker 6: I think the great bit about that too, is it
- 14:34Speaker 6: gets backed up with only Bart laughing at it.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it was hilarious.
- 14:38Speaker 6: It was the perfect That is very much how every
- 14:41Speaker 6: groomsman's speech starts. Right, some stupid lame joke like that.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Well, anyone who quote unquote teaches public speaking or will
- 14:52Speaker 1: offer advice. I was like, break the eyes with a joke.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Yeah, how many.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Ted talks have you watched? It's like someone comes out
- 14:59Speaker 1: and does a bit of a self deprecating gag or whatever.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It's get to the fireworks.
- 15:07Speaker 6: What is the damn marine?
- 15:11Speaker 1: One last thing that I enjoyed the Simpsons family history
- 15:14Speaker 1: with I guess it's home as great grandfather grand.
- 15:18Speaker 6: I didn't like this and I'll get to what we
- 15:20Speaker 6: get to the review but continue.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah, not much about it I enjoyed, but the whole
- 15:26Speaker 1: this is America. Someday one day, who knows when you
- 15:31Speaker 1: and I will go there later that day.
- 15:33Speaker 6: That was good.
- 15:34Speaker 1: That was good. But also yeah, all the stuff about
- 15:37Speaker 1: living in the head of the Statue of Liberty. Can
- 15:40Speaker 1: live without it. But later that day, very funny. Next
- 15:43Speaker 1: question you there eating the beast?
- 15:46Speaker 6: All right? Trivia time.
- 15:47Speaker 1: My first question for you is what other names of
- 15:51Speaker 1: a who's fake?
- 15:51Speaker 6: Mum and dad? And where is he from? There's two questions.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Oh my goodness, Herb and Judy okay, And he's from
- 16:00Speaker 6: Montana green Bay, green Bay of course, yeah, green Bay Packers,
- 16:04Speaker 6: the packers of Green Bay. Yes, coming to America. Reference
- 16:08Speaker 6: for you folks. Barney is holding a sign of the
- 16:12Speaker 6: protest saying the only good immigrant.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Is who no, no, what? What is it? It's Rod Stewart. Oh,
- 16:19Speaker 1: we actually named somebody voted to it. Again. I knew
- 16:21Speaker 1: there's one.
- 16:22Speaker 6: When I'll walking past the protesters at the end they're
- 16:25Speaker 6: going to the test. I thought there's gonna be some
- 16:27Speaker 6: sort of question here. I'm sure there's a freeze frame. Gag.
- 16:30Speaker 6: I ain't gonna do it. Okay, so I've used to
- 16:34Speaker 6: I've only had two questions. I'm just gonna skim through
- 16:36Speaker 6: and find one more for you.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:38Speaker 6: What was Kearney's fake name?
- 16:41Speaker 1: Oh? He was Charles Norwal Charles Norwood. Speaking of Kearney,
- 16:44Speaker 1: where does where does he live? According to his fake
- 16:46Speaker 1: id's that's a good question. It's a freeze frame, gag.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Is it somewhere near We don't know Westpringfield is, But
- 16:54Speaker 1: is it somewhere America? Like it's a popular place. Well,
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's it's an address. It's a street address.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Oh sure, I don't know what it is in there.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It's one one eight point drive. Well done, good question.
- 17:02Speaker 1: All right, what else you got for me? I have
- 17:04Speaker 1: one last question for you. How many people were in
- 17:08Speaker 1: Upho's graduating class at cal Tech? Seven million, seven million,
- 17:13Speaker 1: seven million? There we go?
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Also, actually, well one is I going one more? No?
- 17:18Speaker 6: Hear me?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Oh? Okay? At the I don't know. I guess the
- 17:22Speaker 1: hall where Arpou goes to take his citizenship test. They've
- 17:26Speaker 1: gone how many years without a civil war?
- 17:28Speaker 6: Six?
- 17:28Speaker 1: One hundred and thirty one.
- 17:29Speaker 6: One hundred and thirty one. All right, I thought it'd
- 17:32Speaker 6: be something ridiculous, but it's not true. If you're a

- 20:30Speaker 1: And yeah, so if you want to hear me saying
- 20:32Speaker 1: so do you like stepth to Leonond Moulton, Yeah, bio
- 20:35Speaker 1: means tuned into that?
- 20:35Speaker 6: And who is this scypca?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Who is who is?
- 20:41Speaker 6: I was getting to a review of matchhapoo about nothing? So,
- 20:45Speaker 6: as I mentioned earlier. Originally added ninety six May fifth,
- 20:48Speaker 6: nineteen ninety six production code three F two oh to zero?
- 20:52Speaker 6: Should say? Are you Do you ever say oh when
- 20:54Speaker 6: you mean zero? I always say four three two of
- 20:56Speaker 6: my number, but then I got say the rest of it.
- 20:59Speaker 6: But then the end of my number has an seven,
- 21:02Speaker 6: but I say zero seven. It's like I start with
- 21:04Speaker 6: an O but then it ends with zero seven. I
- 21:06Speaker 6: mean we always say we always say four, don't we o?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Four? Three? Eight?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Oh?
- 21:10Speaker 1: It was about to give my whole number? That's right.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I will start with the O, but then I do
- 21:16Speaker 1: have one another I in the middle, but I will
- 21:17Speaker 1: say zero.
- 21:18Speaker 6: It's weird, isn't it. We always say oh, four three
- 21:20Speaker 6: because we're so used to saying oh four, like it's
- 21:22Speaker 6: a it's a brand.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But then we zero is a fun word to say,
- 21:26Speaker 1: it is.
- 21:26Speaker 6: But why don't we say zero four three two four
- 21:29Speaker 6: three two? It's just it rolls off the tongue, doesn't it.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Everyone is like, we've got five of the numbers, six
- 21:34Speaker 6: the numbers. We can get the rest to get Daniel's
- 21:36Speaker 6: phone number.
- 21:37Speaker 1: There's only so many get working on that combination. And
- 21:41Speaker 1: then Frankel dan o'die Heart's contend.
- 21:43Speaker 6: Written by David Cohen, directed by Susie Dieter Cash Gag.
- 21:47Speaker 6: There was no chipboard game at the cash gig. Was
- 21:49Speaker 6: Marge Bart, Lisa and Maggie mounted heads or the heads
- 21:52Speaker 6: amounted on the wall and a big game hunter comes in.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I believe Homer was the skin on the floor right, yes,
- 21:57Speaker 6: the rug a right was Maggie? I do not recall
- 22:01Speaker 6: some I think that she was. Yeah, maybe it was
- 22:03Speaker 6: definitely on the wall as well. Yeah, not good, not
- 22:05Speaker 6: good at all. The episode kicks off with the Bear,
- 22:10Speaker 6: as we were saying earlier, with the nice upbeat music
- 22:12Speaker 6: and really setting the tone of Planners is freaking out.
- 22:15Speaker 6: I think the music made it funnier because Flanners is
- 22:17Speaker 6: freaking out when like the Bears just not really doing
- 22:19Speaker 6: anything and they made the bear look like a dog
- 22:21Speaker 6: or sitting there as panting and whatnot. But yeah, just
- 22:24Speaker 6: the whole I don't have time for the secret knock.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yes, and much like the later Morgetlanda's I can't work
- 22:31Speaker 1: than I'll either. But the whole bear thing reminded me
- 22:36Speaker 1: of something I've read recently as one that I found
- 22:37Speaker 1: quite interesting and also quite saddening. You know, you've got
- 22:41Speaker 1: beers in the US that are, you know, ripping into
- 22:45Speaker 1: rubbish bins and all that kind.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Of stuff in suburbia. Yeah, but yeah, and someone.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Was asking, someone asked, like a forest rangers, like, why
- 22:53Speaker 1: don't you make the bins harder to get into so
- 22:55Speaker 1: bears can't get into it? And the guy said, because
- 22:58Speaker 1: the ben diagram are bear intelligence and human stupidity. Is
- 23:03Speaker 1: the overlap is a lot more than you might think.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's like, oh, no, are you smarter than a beer?
- 23:10Speaker 6: But why wouldn't they want to go into the bins?
- 23:12Speaker 6: Because there's stuff in there they shouldn't be eating?
- 23:14Speaker 1: Or I think so? Yeah, And also yeah, they just
- 23:18Speaker 1: your bin apart and put rubbish all over the place.
- 23:20Speaker 6: Yeah that's who was that.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm messy enough.
- 23:23Speaker 6: I remember recently, I was emptying the bin and the
- 23:26Speaker 6: bag out, and the bag like ripped and rub the phone.
- 23:29Speaker 6: I was like, oh, there's being juice everywhere.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Is there anything?
- 23:32Speaker 6: There's many things worst, but bing juice terrific.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Look, of course there are worse things in life,
- 23:37Speaker 1: but there's a good chance you're going to avoid things
- 23:40Speaker 1: like binge juice.
- 23:41Speaker 6: It's been sitting in there, just seeping.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Up marinate in film fermenting. Yeah, put the pin on
- 23:53Speaker 1: this podcast. I'm not talking anymore.
- 23:54Speaker 6: I've got a story for you about bingejuice now, but
- 23:56Speaker 6: I don't hear about keep it yourself saying more.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Just panicking.
- 24:00Speaker 6: Can't get the doornub pretty much like a horror movie.
- 24:03Speaker 6: It always frustrates me. It's like, just open the damn doors,
- 24:06Speaker 6: like I can't. I'm panicking. Sometimes you're in a rush,
- 24:10Speaker 6: the basics. I'm trying to turn the car on. Why
- 24:13Speaker 6: can't I turn this? It's like, stop, take a breath. Humans, man,
- 24:19Speaker 6: we're not smarter than a bear.
- 24:20Speaker 1: We're basically animals.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Yeah, we have basically animals indeed, But the bears just
- 24:24Speaker 6: sitting there panting, having a good time. Well, these guys
- 24:27Speaker 6: are freaking out. To go somewhere else. As we do
- 24:29Speaker 6: that he's wandered into the Simpsons house. We get the
- 24:31Speaker 6: news report Camp Brockman in the sky, No honey pie,
- 24:34Speaker 6: Camp Brockman. I feel like the new episodes now don't
- 24:36Speaker 6: have this anywhere near enough where Brockman was always on site.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yes, always happened to look disappointed that we didn't get
- 24:44Speaker 1: the arney, but always happened to especially when there's bears
- 24:49Speaker 1: in search of food or perhaps employment, perhaps employment.
- 24:51Speaker 6: How good is that?
- 24:53Speaker 1: It's like story in my life? Ken Brockman knows me
- 24:56Speaker 1: I will work for I'm consent, drop pants for food,
- 25:02Speaker 1: search for food or possibly employment.
- 25:04Speaker 6: But he says that everyone just stay in their homes
- 25:07Speaker 6: and Homo seas on the news that it's destroyed. The
- 25:09Speaker 6: Impsign family let a box call it's destroyed. The Yes,
- 25:12Speaker 6: and he says, fine, if I have to be trapped
- 25:14Speaker 6: to my he said, they're gonna find as long as
- 25:16Speaker 6: I have beer in the house. No beer, but I'm
- 25:17Speaker 6: gonna be tated to my house and after great and
- 25:19Speaker 6: get some beer.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Do you have any baking soda in your fridge?
- 25:22Speaker 6: Baking so done in the fridge?
- 25:23Speaker 1: No, you know, like he's got that apparently. You know,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you get a box of baking zone, you open it
- 25:27Speaker 1: up and it sort of absorbs all the sense. Really, Yeah, okay,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I don't know if that's an old wives sale or
- 25:32Speaker 1: actual scientific fact.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Why would you want to absorb the sense? Well, you
- 25:36Speaker 6: know what your fridge stinking? I guess yeah, the dish
- 25:38Speaker 6: is your dish washing, your dishwasher.
- 25:40Speaker 1: No dish washer.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Stinks after it. Like, if we've had dishes in there
- 25:43Speaker 6: for a while, what's this clean? It's fine, but we'd
- 25:45Speaker 6: have been sitting there for meny.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Laugh, because Lou's got the the dishwasher and we'll stuck
- 25:53Speaker 1: it up. I like to wash things by hand. I
- 25:55Speaker 1: find it quite therapeutic and quite calming.
- 25:57Speaker 6: I've got some things that have to be washed by Yeah, certainly,
- 26:01Speaker 6: it depends what mood I'm in. I don't mind it.
- 26:03Speaker 6: But when you got kids, man, like three meals a day,
- 26:07Speaker 6: four people, like, there's just so much shit sometimes, you know.
- 26:10Speaker 1: So much laundry, so many dishes.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean two loads of washing yesterday I loaded
- 26:14Speaker 6: the dish washing though somehow my bedtime your clothes clearly,
- 26:20Speaker 6: But yeah, I agree.
- 26:22Speaker 1: It is.
- 26:23Speaker 6: It is therapeutic doing the dishes.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't know, Maybe it's I thought it was just
- 26:27Speaker 1: a Davors thing because I'm always saying to my Mum's like,
- 26:29Speaker 1: let me do the disappoin Yeah, no, I do it better.
- 26:34Speaker 1: She does and she enjoys it.
- 26:38Speaker 6: I don't like washing frying pants and things like that
- 26:42Speaker 6: have had the food sort of stuck in them for
- 26:43Speaker 6: a while, because we got learn so because when you
- 26:46Speaker 6: when you're washing, right, we're doing the dishes. I wash
- 26:49Speaker 6: the basic stuff first, like cups. I was washing glasses
- 26:52Speaker 6: and cups first because I prefer that's going to be
- 26:54Speaker 6: going in my mouth like that to have the cleanest water.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Stuff that's transparent as well. Yeah, yeah, so I always do.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Don't you happy? We could talk about the Simpsons? Wouldn't
- 27:02Speaker 1: you rather get these household tips I always talk about. Sorry,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I always clean the dishes first, like the glasses first.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Then I do plates or whatever, but I always I
- 27:11Speaker 1: rinse them under the tap first to get any excess
- 27:13Speaker 1: stuff off, and then just basically wash the basic the
- 27:15Speaker 1: rest of the stuff off in the dishwater because I
- 27:17Speaker 1: prefer to wash it as clean dishwater as possible, because
- 27:19Speaker 1: when you start doing the frying pants I say those
- 27:21Speaker 1: the last night because the water goes instant brown. It
- 27:23Speaker 1: certainly does.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Yeah, and I'm thinking around wash it down exactly, and
- 27:26Speaker 6: I'm washing it going is this actually cleaning? Because it's
- 27:29Speaker 6: just washing it in its own filth? It's almost it's weird,
- 27:31Speaker 6: right it is.
- 27:33Speaker 1: You're reminded me of a YouTube channel I discovered the
- 27:35Speaker 1: other day called dad, How Do I No? It's sounding
- 27:39Speaker 1: like four million subscribers, and it's basically just this middle
- 27:42Speaker 1: aged American dude who teaches you how to I don't
- 27:46Speaker 1: know what's the things you're doing? A tap like a sinker.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Or over the water starts spread now and or whatever. Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 6: put on a door handle or whatever. Yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 1: He just seems like a really mellow Guy's like, I mean,
- 27:55Speaker 1: look like your actual dad, who was like Jesus, I
- 27:58Speaker 1: have no son. But he's like, okay, how you do this?
- 28:01Speaker 1: And you know you remove that and then you the
- 28:03Speaker 1: dad everyone wanted. Yeah, he's he's like vice president should
- 28:08Speaker 1: have been Tim Watz, but instead we've got JD. Vance
- 28:11Speaker 1: on Musco. I think, isn't it that No, he's the
- 28:14Speaker 1: actual president? Should I say? The other day? I'm pretty
- 28:19Speaker 1: sure it did? You know you know how Alon sort
- 28:20Speaker 1: of does his jumping jacks. It's the EXE and it's
- 28:22Speaker 1: the X. I mean, it's clever, it's good branding.
- 28:24Speaker 6: Yeah, he's so weird. He can say that he's a
- 28:27Speaker 6: weird cat, isn't he.
- 28:28Speaker 1: He's a weird cat sponsor our show's daddy Elon. He's
- 28:35Speaker 1: promo from forming in this cat.
- 28:37Speaker 6: He's weird cat.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Weird cat. But Bridge, yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 6: Very very rich indeed. So he's going to see the
- 28:43Speaker 6: Simpons house home, is going to get some beer. He
- 28:45Speaker 6: tries to drop gracefully through the windshields and that does
- 28:48Speaker 6: not work as as planned. I really liked if you
- 28:51Speaker 6: look in the background, because it's season seven, they got
- 28:55Speaker 6: the bush house across the street. George was doesn't live
- 28:58Speaker 6: there anymore. Obviously he moved out the end of the episode,
- 28:59Speaker 6: but that continuity stayed with the show at least until
- 29:02Speaker 6: that point. Nice, Yeah, it's not there anymore. But then
- 29:06Speaker 6: the police arrive. They actually shoot Barney first, or get shot.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Then, and he's like, oh this that's not bad.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Yeah, and then shoots the bear and we've got one
- 29:15Speaker 6: count book and loo one count of being a bear
- 29:17Speaker 6: and one count of being accessory to being a bear.
- 29:20Speaker 6: I did like it when the Forest Service takes the
- 29:21Speaker 6: bear away and then Mose takes away Barney and the
- 29:25Speaker 6: whole we have to drink toilet water. Was that just
- 29:27Speaker 6: meant to be a gag on people just freaking out
- 29:30Speaker 6: for the second.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, like yeah, in the early dayest the pandemic, where
- 29:35Speaker 1: everyone's like, I've got to have sixteen sixteen packs.
- 29:38Speaker 6: Of toilet roll past. I remember going to the Aldi
- 29:42Speaker 6: near what do we call that? Service man?
- 29:44Speaker 1: Was his name?
- 29:45Speaker 6: Guy right, who works across the road at the Woolworths.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I remember going, it's sorry cos yeah, the cos not
- 29:52Speaker 6: wiol worse at Cole's and all the past was gone.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Everyone's like freaking out one per person. I go to
- 29:57Speaker 6: Aldi and it's just always past that just across the road.
- 30:00Speaker 6: I'm looking around, going how many of these can they buy?
- 30:03Speaker 6: And the guy's like I don't care. I'm like you
- 30:06Speaker 6: need a few.
- 30:07Speaker 1: You do realize the world's in there, right?
- 30:10Speaker 6: I was just like you just can put out and
- 30:12Speaker 6: he's just like I was just like, there's no one
- 30:14Speaker 6: here and past everywhere. I felt like a king. But
- 30:18Speaker 6: it was just it was a weird time where you
- 30:20Speaker 6: felt like you were cheating asistant because you brought four
- 30:22Speaker 6: packs of pasta. What the hell happened? We all lost
- 30:26Speaker 6: our collect to take tickets and line up for the supermarket.
- 30:30Speaker 6: So strange, Oh, so strange, so strange. Trying to explain
- 30:33Speaker 6: it to the kids when they're old is going to
- 30:34Speaker 6: be a weird one. But anyway, so, yeah, I probably
- 30:36Speaker 6: have their own pandemic by the Homers. Yeah. Probably Homer's
- 30:39Speaker 6: sick of all these bear attacks. Like a damn bed jamberoo,
- 30:42Speaker 6: randy country bed jamb It just sounds like fun. A
- 30:45Speaker 6: country bear jambarroo. The Flanta says, you know what, I
- 30:49Speaker 6: think this might be the first time we've actually ever
- 30:51Speaker 6: had a bean my whole time of living in Springfield. Well,
- 30:53Speaker 6: if you were bears scaring your children and taking your salmon,
- 30:56Speaker 6: that's your that's your incentive.
- 30:59Speaker 5: We're here, we're queer. We don't want any more bears.
- 31:05Speaker 6: We don't.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Hey, Homer, that's a pretty catchy chant.
- 31:09Speaker 6: Where'd you learn it?
- 31:10Speaker 5: Oh? I heard it the mustache bride to hear every.
- 31:13Speaker 6: Year again, that's a joke that eight year old Brendan
- 31:16Speaker 6: no idea what he's talking about. Even though we're queer,
- 31:18Speaker 6: we're here, that's it sounds funny, but I don't get
- 31:20Speaker 6: what the joke is, you know, so I guess there's
- 31:22Speaker 6: moments throughout the episode for a kid too. I guess
- 31:25Speaker 6: it sounds funny. I know it seems like it's funny,
- 31:28Speaker 6: but properly understanding it, he just wasn't quite there. But
- 31:32Speaker 6: they have an unruly moub or whatever at the door,
- 31:34Speaker 6: but they have an appointment because Skinner caught ahead and
- 31:37Speaker 6: Quimby says that you know, what are we mean to do?
- 31:41Speaker 6: And they're like, it's smarter than the average bait.
- 31:43Speaker 1: You took my pick in the ba.
- 31:44Speaker 6: I never get the great bay off of Quimby with
- 31:46Speaker 6: the pigure what Quimby's a legend, right? I love Quimby,
- 31:52Speaker 6: but we haven't actually touched on just how sweet this
- 31:54Speaker 6: overall story is. This is an Appooh centric story. He's
- 31:58Speaker 6: only had Homer and the where he goes to get
- 32:01Speaker 6: his job back at the Quick Mask Indian and whatnot.
- 32:03Speaker 6: I think we've had any Appoo based stories between that
- 32:06Speaker 6: and this one.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I don't recall.
- 32:08Speaker 6: You might have had a storylines. I've had storylines where
- 32:10Speaker 6: he's been kind of involved in episodes based on him
- 32:13Speaker 6: and I think that what are you gonna do an a
- 32:16Speaker 6: Pooh episode? This is about as spot on as.
- 32:18Speaker 1: You can get, right, I think so? Yeah, I mean
- 32:21Speaker 1: I think you've got heart.
- 32:22Speaker 6: It's got it's witty, it's it's topical even now like
- 32:26Speaker 6: it's it's it's from that perspective. It's actually a great episode.
- 32:29Speaker 1: It's heartfelt, but it's not sappy in any way.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Yeah, not a bear in sight. The bear patrol must
- 32:36Speaker 5: be working like a germ.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That specious reasoning, Dad, Thank you, honey. By your logic,
- 32:42Speaker 1: I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
- 32:45Speaker 5: How does it work?
- 32:46Speaker 4: It doesn't work. It's just a stupid rock. But I
- 32:50Speaker 4: don't see any tigers around here, do you, Lisa.
- 32:54Speaker 6: I want to fight your rock, Lisa.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I want to buy your rock. He doesn't want to
- 32:59Speaker 1: take the money, and it's like eh, and he takes
- 33:02Speaker 1: it like this guy.
- 33:07Speaker 6: But then he realizes he thinks he's getting a paycheck. Well,
- 33:09Speaker 6: he's getting his paycheck, but he's been taxed five dollars
- 33:11Speaker 6: the Bear patrol tax. Let the Bears pay the bad tax,
- 33:13Speaker 6: I pay the Homer tax. Give me whatever. So the
- 33:18Speaker 6: mob is now back at Quimby's again, down with taxes.
- 33:21Speaker 6: They don't want to pay ating taxes. They also want
- 33:22Speaker 6: the bear patrol. There's no pleasing this peak, no, no,
- 33:25Speaker 6: So of course for real leadership.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So what does he do.
- 33:27Speaker 6: He blames the im against well, that's what a real
- 33:31Speaker 6: little does against. I knew it was them against dem immigrants.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Is so good. But then we get somebody pleasing the
- 33:38Speaker 6: children and he proposes proposition twenty four.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Is twenty twenty four? Twenty four definitely twenty four.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah, but then did you see the newspaper, So it says,
- 33:49Speaker 6: I don't know, this is the first one. So it
- 33:50Speaker 6: says quib proposition twenty four. And at the end Quimby
- 33:54Speaker 6: proposes proposition twenty four at ballet. It's got ballot in
- 33:57Speaker 6: the first one at ballet, and there in the subheading.
- 33:59Speaker 6: So now at the school and UDA's being teased, and
- 34:01Speaker 6: this is very much what happens, you know, it's just
- 34:05Speaker 6: mob mentality takes over and you start picking on people,
- 34:07Speaker 6: and you go, you were best friends yesterday and now
- 34:10Speaker 6: you've just been completely brainwashed and now.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You're picking on It happened.
- 34:14Speaker 6: As you said, I'm not going to get political, but
- 34:16Speaker 6: this was felt very much post nine to eleven, how
- 34:19Speaker 6: any Muslim would have felt. Sure anyway, it's just your Muslim,
- 34:24Speaker 6: you're one of them. It's just it's crazy. But UDA's
- 34:26Speaker 6: getting teased here, and as even Skinner is joining in
- 34:29Speaker 6: on it and really tries to stand up for him,
- 34:31Speaker 6: And I want to pick on someone their own size,
- 34:33Speaker 6: So I'm planning to seed here that that Willy's obviously immigrant.
- 34:36Speaker 6: Of course, then right dinner and Least is annoyed by
- 34:39Speaker 6: the whole thing. She can't believe that Homer's buying into
- 34:41Speaker 6: it all. And Homer's like, what's the ideology of kids?
- 34:43Speaker 6: So many immigrants in the school's neck kids like, but
- 34:45Speaker 6: I've lost the wilder. But then this is while I
- 34:49Speaker 6: was touched on earlier Grandpa talking about the Old Country
- 34:52Speaker 6: and how the Simpsons family actually came from immigrants, like
- 34:54Speaker 6: Grandpa immigrated to Springfield. It didn't pay off in any way,
- 34:59Speaker 6: it felt. So we did Family Guy recently for launch Pod.
- 35:04Speaker 6: It felt very much like a cutaway gag like that
- 35:08Speaker 6: it didn't add to the story because you know, I
- 35:09Speaker 6: didn't add to the story because at the end of
- 35:11Speaker 6: it that is go and by the by the time
- 35:13Speaker 6: we filled the heavy garage and we's got to move
- 35:15Speaker 6: out in the end, and that's it. Like, if the
- 35:17Speaker 6: joke is I really know where we're going with this,
- 35:20Speaker 6: then don't include it.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I guess. So yeah, I mean really, there was really
- 35:24Speaker 1: only one good gag in that whole thing, which was
- 35:26Speaker 1: the later that day thing that I mentioned.
- 35:28Speaker 6: Because if you're going to bring up the fact that
- 35:30Speaker 6: the Simpsons are immigrants themselves as.
- 35:32Speaker 1: A plot point, really roll with it.
- 35:35Speaker 6: It's got to. It's going to become part of the story.
- 35:37Speaker 6: It doesn't make sense why home it would still be,
- 35:39Speaker 6: I guess, because wouldn't I guess they'd be legal immigrants
- 35:43Speaker 6: by that point, not illegal.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Well it's it's are they trying to get illegal immigrants
- 35:47Speaker 1: or just immigrants? Just illegal immigrants? Yeah, yeah, but they're
- 35:51Speaker 1: threading through the theme of the shows that everybody came
- 35:53Speaker 1: from somewhere else. I still have just thought that it
- 35:56Speaker 1: seemed it didn't it didn't add anything to this particular store,
- 36:00Speaker 1: and the gags weren't necessarily that funny, so kind of
- 36:02Speaker 1: flopped on both counts. So Grandpa wasn't born in America. Yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 1: Well that's the other thing. I mean, they don't. I
- 36:10Speaker 1: guess it's kind of a gig that they don't say
- 36:11Speaker 1: where they come from.
- 36:12Speaker 6: Just as later on they're trying to when that was
- 36:15Speaker 6: still a thing show where Springfield is or isn't, and
- 36:18Speaker 6: they're doing all the hiding and obscuring, and all that
- 36:21Speaker 6: hiding and the obscuring and all that just somes either
- 36:23Speaker 6: Grandpa who is such a pro war veteran, pro America,
- 36:28Speaker 6: very patriotic, and then turns out he's sort even born
- 36:30Speaker 6: in America.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Then, as I said, you know a lot of people
- 36:33Speaker 1: who yeah, quote unquote come from there, extremely patriotic. Just
- 36:38Speaker 1: look at Arnold. I was pedatic matterlive.
- 36:42Speaker 4: You know what merely aggravates me is them immigrants. They
- 36:45Speaker 4: want all the benefits of living in Springfield, but they
- 36:48Speaker 4: ain't even bothered to learn themselves the language.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Yeah, those are exactly my centimony.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Job you shut a barn?

- 37:29Speaker 6: Simpsons are now at the Quickie Mark, well besides Homer Marge,
- 37:32Speaker 6: but Unleastam Maggie. They're walking around their first customers in
- 37:35Speaker 6: a week. No one wants to go to the Quickie
- 37:36Speaker 6: Mart anymore because a Pooh is a legal immigrant and
- 37:38Speaker 6: he explains here, Hey, he left India after graduating. And
- 37:41Speaker 6: I wanted to touch on this earlier. I thought i'd
- 37:43Speaker 6: say this now. I like the idea that Mandula debut here.
- 37:50Speaker 6: Even though I mean, well, I suppose the age differentiations,
- 37:54Speaker 6: it didn't feel that much when they were actually married.
- 37:56Speaker 1: No, but here is like a child well not old bride,
- 38:00Speaker 1: but child bride to be is like, oh boy.
- 38:03Speaker 6: But it makes that that episode when he marries Manjuela.
- 38:06Speaker 6: For the hardcore Simpsons fans, that's a really good payoff.
- 38:09Speaker 6: Oh yeah, it's just because she was just a joke here,
- 38:12Speaker 6: but then she becomes an actual character.
- 38:13Speaker 1: It's an easter Egg.
- 38:14Speaker 6: Yeah, it is an Yeah, an Issa Egg. It's like,
- 38:18Speaker 6: we watched TV last night and someone said newsletter. I
- 38:21Speaker 6: was like, did ever say it?
- 38:23Speaker 1: Like that?
- 38:24Speaker 6: Newsletter? It's like newsletters some words.
- 38:29Speaker 1: It's fun to occasionally put the emphasis on the wrong
- 38:32Speaker 1: on the newsletter.
- 38:36Speaker 6: It's newspaper. So now he explains how he studied under
- 38:40Speaker 6: Professor Frink, the Great Professor Frink talks about the computers
- 38:43Speaker 6: and how I didn't live through this era you did.
- 38:47Speaker 6: What was the mentality of computers was the idea of
- 38:49Speaker 6: they're going to be massive or they're going to change
- 38:52Speaker 6: the world. What was it?
- 38:53Speaker 1: It happened like a lot of things gradually and then
- 38:57Speaker 1: very suddenly. Yeah. I mean, we were studying computer at
- 39:00Speaker 1: school when I was young, but it was all It
- 39:03Speaker 1: was kind of like going to art class or something
- 39:06Speaker 1: like that. Today you're gonna learn how.
- 39:07Speaker 6: To protect class.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah. You'd go in for like half an hour and
- 39:11Speaker 1: code for whatever and blah blah blah blah. Oh look
- 39:14Speaker 1: I made a squiggly line or something like that. As
- 39:18Speaker 1: I was in secondary school about to leave schools like, well,
- 39:22Speaker 1: computers seemed to be becoming more of a thing. Maybe
- 39:25Speaker 1: I should learn about it. No, I think I'll just
- 39:27Speaker 1: go get drunk instead. You know, schools out forever. Baby,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I was full. I should have learned about computers. But yeah,
- 39:33Speaker 1: I mean you could see, oh, these are becoming more
- 39:36Speaker 1: of a thing. Apple was sort of we had Apple Macintosh.
- 39:40Speaker 6: So I went to Northseiall Primary School here, a really
- 39:42Speaker 6: poor school, and I remember we had like the computer lab,
- 39:46Speaker 6: but it would have been maybe like Tank computers in
- 39:48Speaker 6: there and it or had Apple macintoshes in there. Macintosh
- 39:52Speaker 6: just seemed to dominate. Oh god, world at that point
- 39:55Speaker 6: in came to computers. It's just my idea of when
- 39:57Speaker 6: I was a kid off a computer was a Macintosh,
- 39:58Speaker 6: but it's called It wasn't called a computer.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It was called a Macintosh.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, they had that branding and it was
- 40:03Speaker 6: just over like you play the games and it was
- 40:04Speaker 6: the floppy discs you put it in and it was
- 40:06Speaker 6: like green. Oh yeah, yeah, time to be alive. I'm
- 40:09Speaker 6: just trying to look up here. We had like these
- 40:11Speaker 6: electric typewriter things at school. We all had them. They
- 40:15Speaker 6: weren't but they weren't typewriters. There was sort of this
- 40:16Speaker 6: weird what were.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Called well was it like half a laptop yes, kind
- 40:23Speaker 1: of thing.
- 40:23Speaker 6: Yeah, what were they called me? This is like early nineties.
- 40:26Speaker 1: They were electronic typewriters. That's well, that's certainly what I
- 40:30Speaker 1: had then when I was leaving school and first years
- 40:33Speaker 1: of UNI. It was kind of like what almost almost
- 40:36Speaker 1: kind of like.
- 40:37Speaker 6: What ET used, you know, like a speaking like speaking,
- 40:40Speaker 6: it's kind of like that, but more fancier, more fancyer.
- 40:44Speaker 1: No, no, I know, I know because Margaret Mary had
- 40:46Speaker 1: one and I pinched it because it had a little, tiny,
- 40:48Speaker 1: little electronic screen. Was like, oh, I can actually see
- 40:51Speaker 1: the words I'm typing. Alpha Smart that might have been
- 40:53Speaker 1: That wasn't it. But there was a brand called Brother Brother. Yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 1: that's this is the Alpha Smarts here. So it's kind
- 41:01Speaker 1: of like that, I get what you mean. That wasn't it.
- 41:04Speaker 1: It's sort of like a really big, unwieldy BlackBerry.
- 41:08Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, but we it was so you got to
- 41:11Speaker 6: play on that.
- 41:11Speaker 1: It was like, oh my god, like it's it was cool.
- 41:13Speaker 6: It was really cool.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah. When I was working in Forte at the
- 41:16Speaker 1: street paper down here had a bunch of like old
- 41:19Speaker 1: desktop computers, but there was one quote unquote laptop except
- 41:23Speaker 1: if you put it in your lap, you just you know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: your legs will be paralyzed because it was so heavy.
- 41:27Speaker 6: It was like when when Chandler buys a laptop on
- 41:31Speaker 6: Friends and it's like it's got like five hundred megabats
- 41:33Speaker 6: of ramp his massive box of a thing. Yeah, but yeah,
- 41:38Speaker 6: it's it's makes you feel oh when you look back
- 41:40Speaker 6: and go, and that was cutting.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:44Speaker 6: When Apple did the the screens, you could see inside.
- 41:48Speaker 1: All the oh those Imax Imax Yeah, well yeah, we
- 41:52Speaker 1: had one of the Adam at school.
- 41:53Speaker 6: It is like, look at the computer. They got the
- 41:55Speaker 6: Imaxe inside, and.
- 41:59Speaker 1: It's weird because you sometimes you get the pink one.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You're like, oh, yeah, we have one in a place
- 42:04Speaker 1: I was working. We thought it's pretty wild.
- 42:06Speaker 4: You know.
- 42:08Speaker 1: It took a very short amount of time for that
- 42:10Speaker 1: to become terribly naff and uncool, that kind of design,
- 42:14Speaker 1: because I think you had the iMac and around the
- 42:17Speaker 1: same time you had that new version of the Volkswagon.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Do you remember that from the late nineties, and it
- 42:23Speaker 1: was you know, I had the traditional sort of Volkswagen shape,
- 42:26Speaker 1: but it was a little bit more streamlined and it
- 42:28Speaker 1: came in funky colors and all that. Like the iMac.
- 42:31Speaker 1: It was a very late nineties kind of design, and
- 42:33Speaker 1: I think maybe from the mid two thousand and were
- 42:35Speaker 1: oh god, that sucks. Even probably in the nineties we
- 42:38Speaker 1: were doing that because I think there's a scene at
- 42:40Speaker 1: five Club where Brad Pittnea when Norton's I don't come
- 42:43Speaker 1: across one of those volkswagons, just laugh at it and
- 42:46Speaker 1: kick the shit out of it with well, beat the
- 42:47Speaker 1: shit out of it with baseball bats. Now we're looking
- 42:50Speaker 1: at it because everything's so bland and bloody.
- 42:52Speaker 6: It's just the same.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, you go the soup, you go
- 42:54Speaker 1: to the supermarket carpack, you gat the sheep market carpats.
- 42:57Speaker 6: It's gray white or black.
- 42:58Speaker 1: You can't find you can all the kinds of gray
- 43:00Speaker 1: white and black, and they all look the same. And
- 43:03Speaker 1: every time I'll look over the car park and go, well,
- 43:08Speaker 1: this world used to be colorful. And then occasionally you'll
- 43:10Speaker 1: see like a bright green carryinger.
- 43:12Speaker 6: This is Wanka'd say, And this don't get the fancy
- 43:15Speaker 6: cond You're like this dickhead, but a hero is showing off.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Oh dear, But.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I predict that within one hundred years computers will be
- 43:24Speaker 4: twice as powerful, ten thousand times larger and so expensive
- 43:29Speaker 4: that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Who did to be used for dating?
- 43:34Speaker 4: Well, theoretically, yes, Black the computer matches would be so
- 43:38Speaker 4: perfect as to eliminate the thrill of romantic conquests more
- 43:42Speaker 4: herven Way.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Nine glorious years later, I completed my PhD thesis two
- 43:48Speaker 2: hundred thousand precisely ordered punch Guards, comprising the world's very
- 43:52Speaker 2: first tick tactor program. Only the top human players could
- 43:56Speaker 2: be dis.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Hey, what's this one for?
- 43:58Speaker 5: Oh?
- 43:59Speaker 1: Maybe I have undiagnosed OCD or something like that. I
- 44:03Speaker 1: wanted to kill.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Him amount of time it goes into that maybe he's
- 44:08Speaker 6: so angry. It's like when I built this lego, right,
- 44:11Speaker 6: this this thing, and Elliott just goes, what is this one?
- 44:13Speaker 6: He pulled it and one of the parts fell off,
- 44:14Speaker 6: and I was like, I don't quite remember where this
- 44:17Speaker 6: one goes. Now, I know I can putting here and
- 44:19Speaker 6: it looks fine, but that's not where it was.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it will never be the right way.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Now.
- 44:29Speaker 1: We might we might be ill people. There might be
- 44:32Speaker 1: something wrong with.
- 44:33Speaker 6: Oh, there's definitely something wrong with us. I mean everyone
- 44:35Speaker 6: has something wrong with him.
- 44:36Speaker 1: I've got well yeah, true, But I mean I've got Basic,
- 44:40Speaker 1: a lovely cat. He's got claws because he's a cat.
- 44:43Speaker 1: He will occasionally crawl me. And if I'm like, I'm
- 44:46Speaker 1: wearing a jumper that I don't want a threat to
- 44:48Speaker 1: come loose on it, and you're gonna your claws are
- 44:51Speaker 1: kind of sharp, and you won't let me cut them
- 44:53Speaker 1: because you're You're as Eurotic Eurotic as your owner. I'm like,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I've got to pick you up and very g and
- 45:00Speaker 1: throw you away because you're up slowly, and throw because
- 45:03Speaker 1: then i can't wear this jump anymore. If I've got
- 45:06Speaker 1: one thread loose on it? What's wrong with this?
- 45:09Speaker 6: Could you know?
- 45:10Speaker 1: When we now return you to much appoo about nothing
- 45:12Speaker 1: getting in progress?
- 45:13Speaker 6: But Pooh mentions here how he stayed because he wanted
- 45:16Speaker 6: to pay off his student loan first, and then he's
- 45:18Speaker 6: made friends and he's like, well, I do want to
- 45:19Speaker 6: go anywhere. I love the people that I'm living with
- 45:21Speaker 6: or my friends and family, not family but friends.
- 45:24Speaker 1: A good citizen, yeah, a solid dude.
- 45:26Speaker 6: He stayed because he owed a debt to the country.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Someone you'd someone you'd want as a neighbor, a friend,
- 45:32Speaker 1: a member of your.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Community, doing the job that no one else wanted to
- 45:34Speaker 6: do as well running the quick you man't true? Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 6: and as much says, the only crime committed was violating
- 45:40Speaker 6: US law. I'm going to vote no, much as she's voting.
- 45:43Speaker 6: Know at least is happy about this. Then we have
- 45:45Speaker 6: Kurney arriving with his fake ID for Charles Norwood was
- 45:49Speaker 6: a B and three of the finest cheapest cigars, and
- 45:52Speaker 6: Pooh realizes the fake ID, but he says, look, he'll
- 45:54Speaker 6: he just wants to know where the idea is. And
- 45:56Speaker 6: if you come with the idea where the ID came from,
- 45:58Speaker 6: he'll overlook. The ice cream sandwich is concealed in his armpits.
- 46:01Speaker 6: So he buys the fortunate documents from fat Tony. Indeed,
- 46:07Speaker 6: sure not gratitude andy, courtesy, you're an American now, so
- 46:11Speaker 6: now the quaking mark and he's dacked it all out
- 46:13Speaker 6: like a true American. Very uncle, Samy, She's a very
- 46:16Speaker 6: stereotypical American, very fourth of July American store.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I love that he can't keep up the vasava too
- 46:22Speaker 1: long though, just particularly he's looking at Yes, what we
- 46:27Speaker 1: all thought was the loving forever marriage of Tom and Nicole. Yeah,
- 46:32Speaker 1: how one did that finish. I think that wrapped up
- 46:34Speaker 1: sometime in the early two thousand.
- 46:36Speaker 6: The two thousand, wasn't it, because it would have been
- 46:37Speaker 6: what two thousand and five before the two five when
- 46:39Speaker 6: he was with Katie. Yes, I think what the world
- 46:43Speaker 6: was two thousand and five, and I think.
- 46:45Speaker 1: They split up post Eyes Wide Shut, which came out
- 46:47Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Who needs the infinite compassion of Gurnesia when I've got
- 46:54Speaker 2: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kitman stating at me from Entertainment
- 46:59Speaker 2: Weekly with that.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Dead eyes look at me.
- 47:02Speaker 3: I betrayed my Indian heritage, Sir? What would my parents
- 47:06Speaker 3: think of me?
- 47:06Speaker 1: Now? Make us prown son. Never forget who you are.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Don't make the same mistake I did.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Ooh oh, forgive me mother, father?
- 47:21Speaker 4: I fail you.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Well?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Am I kidding? I am no citizen.
- 47:31Speaker 3: This passport is a cheap forgery, A cheap two thousand
- 47:35Speaker 3: dollars forgery. Brought shame to my parents, to my home London,
- 47:40Speaker 3: to myself.
- 47:41Speaker 5: Don't forget an issue.
- 47:43Speaker 6: So how many brings a poo home? The whole Simpsons
- 47:45Speaker 6: family now behind him. So unfortunately there are three blow
- 47:49Speaker 6: the voting age, and Homer's not registered to vote either,
- 47:51Speaker 6: but suggests that maybe she's get married to somebody, So
- 47:53Speaker 6: Homer calls up someone. She says no, because she's already
- 47:55Speaker 6: got various.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Last names married an American ninety day fiance style.
- 47:59Speaker 6: Yeah, she's only going to marry one more time, possibly
- 48:03Speaker 6: for money. Yes, then, Grandma Suggess, you should live in
- 48:05Speaker 6: a balloon. Grandpa adds nothing to this episode. No, because
- 48:09Speaker 6: that doesn't go anywhere either. So Lista points out that
- 48:12Speaker 6: as a grandfather clause and this he has been declared.
- 48:14Speaker 6: So Apoo can go for his citizenship as long as
- 48:17Speaker 6: he passes the test before Tuesday. That's when the vote's
- 48:19Speaker 6: going to be and then he has two hundred years
- 48:22Speaker 6: of history to get through. They can't be that many.
- 48:26Speaker 1: This is the kind of thing.
- 48:27Speaker 6: Is Nicholas going to be going for her citizenship soon?
- 48:29Speaker 6: She has to get certain jobs in the government field.
- 48:33Speaker 6: She's looking at these questions. I'm like, I never know
- 48:35Speaker 6: the answers to these. Isn't it funny we expect these
- 48:37Speaker 6: people to know these sit about the country. Most of
- 48:39Speaker 6: the people who live here don't know the answers to
- 48:41Speaker 6: these questions. It's just that he can become the tutor. Yeah,
- 48:44Speaker 6: and everyone's like, oh, that's not a good idea.
- 48:46Speaker 5: Please identify this object.
- 48:49Speaker 2: It appears to be the flag which disappeared from the
- 48:51Speaker 2: public library last year.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Correct.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Now we all know the thirteen stripes over good luck,
- 48:57Speaker 5: But why does the American flag here precisely for seven stars?
- 49:01Speaker 2: Because this particular flag is ridiculously out of date. The
- 49:05Speaker 2: library must have purchased it during the brief period in
- 49:08Speaker 2: nineteen twelve after New Mexico became a state, but before
- 49:11Speaker 2: Arizona did partial credit.
- 49:14Speaker 6: So he points out the town here, where the town is,
- 49:17Speaker 6: And this was just in the nineties. This still felt
- 49:19Speaker 6: like a thing of where the Simpsons actually from. No
- 49:22Speaker 6: one gives a shit anymore. But I think in the
- 49:23Speaker 6: Simpsons movie, Flanders points out the various states surrounding where
- 49:28Speaker 6: they are. So I think you can actually work out
- 49:31Speaker 6: which Springfield it is. But there's I think Springfield's the
- 49:33Speaker 6: most common town name in the US, which is why
- 49:35Speaker 6: he picked up that scans. Yeah, yeah, so the now
- 49:39Speaker 6: it's tide of the paper again. This is police are
- 49:40Speaker 6: preparing for their deportation, and it's a sign through the
- 49:44Speaker 6: thing science foot and the way Chief. There's also the
- 49:48Speaker 6: subheading you've been mentioning it earlier about the bear that's
- 49:50Speaker 6: right with the bombs, the bombs squad or something like that. Yeah,
- 49:54Speaker 6: so now the studying, it's not going very well at all.
- 49:56Speaker 6: Poo's just not letting anything from home. Home is giving
- 49:58Speaker 6: you the wrong answers. It tested in six hours. So
- 50:01Speaker 6: Homy gives him his ninth grade history book, says go
- 50:03Speaker 6: learn this while go to bed and falls asleep straight away,
- 50:05Speaker 6: wakes up realized he's forgotten everything. Perfect, Thank goodness, let's go.
- 50:09Speaker 6: So walk pasted all the protesters and in there we've
- 50:11Speaker 6: got I think Luigi, doctor nick Mo's in there with
- 50:13Speaker 6: his mustache under Maybe see Captain might have been in there,
- 50:16Speaker 6: Not too sure.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I forgotten exactly how many, but yeah, there were
- 50:19Speaker 1: certainly some familiar faces in there.
- 50:21Speaker 6: Yeah. And the police are preparing to round everybody. First
- 50:25Speaker 6: round up the tired, then the poor, then the hundred
- 50:28Speaker 6: up masses were getting to breath free. That a Pooh
- 50:33Speaker 6: gives his long witted answer about the Civil War who caused,
- 50:35Speaker 6: as he said, a.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Very student answer, and he's right on ye, just say slavery,
- 50:38Speaker 1: just say slavery.
- 50:39Speaker 6: Just I thought the reading of that guy was great.
- 50:41Speaker 6: The delivery.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Just say slavery. Shut up, just say slavery.
- 50:47Speaker 6: So he says, slavery it is, and then which way
- 50:50Speaker 6: to the welfare office.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I'm not going to work.
- 50:54Speaker 6: So now it's throwing a party for a Pooh at
- 50:56Speaker 6: the Simpson's house. He says, I'm an Indian American. Lisa says,
- 50:59Speaker 6: all immigrants, you know, except for the Native Americans, the
- 51:02Speaker 6: Indian Americans like me. No. Then Homer's speech so a
- 51:06Speaker 6: few words, I'd be better public speaker, very funny. Basically,
- 51:10Speaker 6: Homer's point here is that we all take the country
- 51:13Speaker 6: for granted, except for the people who come here and
- 51:14Speaker 6: realize just how great it is. And I say, it's
- 51:16Speaker 6: so many people who ran and rave for hawshit Australia is,
- 51:18Speaker 6: and like, go somewhere else there and you realize how
- 51:21Speaker 6: lucky you are.
- 51:24Speaker 1: You must be fine at parties.
- 51:27Speaker 6: I knew I was getting old when I Nick would
- 51:29Speaker 6: go to events and there's younger people there saying it extreme,
- 51:33Speaker 6: and I'm just like, you have no idea how good
- 51:36Speaker 6: you've got it.
- 51:37Speaker 1: None at all?
- 51:39Speaker 6: Kids, Oh my goodness, gracious me. But I did also
- 51:43Speaker 6: love the cut straight to yes I'm twenty four, resounding
- 51:48Speaker 6: ninety five percent, and some points that democracy doesn't work,
- 51:51Speaker 6: and a pooh I liked this year democracy doesn't work,
- 51:54Speaker 6: and then a pooh immigrants saying, don't knock the country
- 51:56Speaker 6: that I love. It's just from both sides, you know
- 51:58Speaker 6: what I mean. Yeah, I guess the jury duty throws
- 52:00Speaker 6: it in the bin. I've never done it. I've been
- 52:02Speaker 6: asked twice, never done it.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I think I've been asked once and have not done it.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I've been asked twice, I've never done it. Yeah, I
- 52:08Speaker 1: kind of regret it now. Maybe I never get asked again.
- 52:11Speaker 1: But I'm like, I'd be perfectly fine with that.
- 52:13Speaker 6: But I think fun unless you get a really fucked
- 52:16Speaker 6: up case obviously.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Yeah, But Nichola's like us, I'm just afraid I didn't
- 52:20Speaker 1: have like during number two the Clean Eatwood movie.
- 52:24Speaker 6: Well, Nicholas says to me, you know, you realize if
- 52:26Speaker 6: I was going to do it. The second told you, guys,
- 52:27Speaker 6: if you do it, you might be aut a commission
- 52:29Speaker 6: for like three four weeks, depending on the case. And
- 52:30Speaker 6: I was like, ah, yeah, I don't want to be
- 52:32Speaker 6: doing this.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I can't podcast solo. I don't know which buttons.
- 52:38Speaker 6: He's just sitting here talking to the microphone. Nothing turned
- 52:41Speaker 6: on yet, It'll work itself out, can you hear me?
- 52:45Speaker 2: Now?
- 52:49Speaker 6: But things have worked out for the people they care about.
- 52:51Speaker 6: Cut too really on a ship, lows he in greats
- 52:53Speaker 6: and he's off on his way home. That is our review.
- 52:55Speaker 6: I've much chapoo about nothing. Fantastic episode. Really enjoyed a.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Good episode, very relevant in these times. Yes, yes, we
- 53:02Speaker 1: are occasionally getting upset about immigrants when we really shouldn't.
- 53:06Speaker 1: We're all, you know, passengers on the on one big
- 53:09Speaker 1: boat called the SS Earth. What do we learn, Bomber?
- 53:12Speaker 1: What did you learn about the episode? Oh?
- 53:16Speaker 6: What did you learn from this episode? Not about?
- 53:17Speaker 1: What do you learn from this episode? The more can't
- 53:20Speaker 1: work the knob? Yes?
- 53:21Speaker 6: Apparently so I learned that there's ever a problem, it's demimigans.
- 53:31Speaker 6: I asked the patrons for some questions. Got a couple here.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Oh okay.
- 53:34Speaker 6: James Daniel says, what are the best three episodes to
- 53:35Speaker 6: show someone that never watched The Simpsons as a kid
- 53:37Speaker 6: and doesn't get the hype. I've started off with Homer's Enemy,
- 53:40Speaker 6: but it's so referential to other episodes that I'm thinking
- 53:42Speaker 6: that was a bad idea.
- 53:43Speaker 1: I think so as well.
- 53:45Speaker 6: One of the appeals widespread. You're gonna have like a
- 53:48Speaker 6: mixture episode to You're gonna have one that has emotional
- 53:51Speaker 6: I think, like, uh, Maggie Makes three has to do
- 53:53Speaker 6: it for her at the end because you can't watch
- 53:55Speaker 6: that and not cry. One that's just full of gags.
- 53:59Speaker 6: Gag gag, gag gag gag. Are you throwing like a
- 54:02Speaker 6: large rest of the monorac? And I think maybe yeah?
- 54:05Speaker 6: And what would another one be? I think have a
- 54:08Speaker 6: story that's incorporates the town.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Because twenty two short films about Springfield, that one.
- 54:16Speaker 6: That one doesn't give a good reflection of what the
- 54:17Speaker 6: show is though, but it does give you good understanding
- 54:19Speaker 6: of what the characters are. Twisty short films could work.
- 54:23Speaker 6: Maybe something like a Bart's comet where they all sort
- 54:25Speaker 6: of like just on the involves Radio Bart, but involves
- 54:28Speaker 6: the whole town doing something together. Anyway, It's all right,
- 54:31Speaker 6: Andrew JP final and here, what's your favorite Fish out
- 54:33Speaker 6: of Water sitcom? He used to love Perfect Strangers as
- 54:36Speaker 6: a kid.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I knew he was going to say Perfect Strangers. It's
- 54:38Speaker 1: like the ultimate Fish out of Water city. Okay, I
- 54:41Speaker 1: don't think I ever watched it Perfect Strangers. No, no,
- 54:43Speaker 1: BALKI do you know the same? No idea? What it is?
- 54:47Speaker 1: Perfect Strangers? Perfect Strangers? Well, I think it was basically
- 54:52Speaker 1: created because the actor Bronzon Pinchot, who was Serge in
- 54:56Speaker 1: the in the Beverly Hill Cop where he's like, oh,
- 54:58Speaker 1: this guy can do accidents and people seen to like that.
- 55:00Speaker 1: How about we have him as a wacky foreigner who
- 55:02Speaker 1: comes from it's like a pro borat comes from like
- 55:05Speaker 1: some weird European nation, comes to New York City. He's
- 55:09Speaker 1: got a distant cousin of the seasons, yeah, moves him
- 55:12Speaker 1: with his with his cousin is a bit straight laced,
- 55:15Speaker 1: and you know, this guy doesn't really know anything about
- 55:18Speaker 1: the West and it's customed. So he's also always you know,
- 55:22Speaker 1: being inappropriate and embarrassing. But he's got a really good
- 55:25Speaker 1: heart and everyone comes to love him and you go,
- 55:28Speaker 1: fat that guy is? Now have you seen it? Which
- 55:30Speaker 1: one the main actor Bronson? Check this out? Even twenty
- 55:33Speaker 1: twenty three? That could be anyone? What's what's his name?
- 55:37Speaker 1: Mark Lynn Baker, Mark Lynn l I double Len Baker.
- 55:42Speaker 6: Have a look see that big fat Dynamo. It's literally
- 55:44Speaker 6: like Home in the movie, wasn't it.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Yah? I think that's him.
- 55:47Speaker 6: I reckon if someone is playing funny buggers to get
- 55:49Speaker 6: me to clickbait on the vote on the article.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Why would anyone on the internet do that. I have
- 55:54Speaker 1: no idea. No, you look at him.
- 55:56Speaker 6: He's not fat. I mean he's not He's not thin thin,
- 55:59Speaker 6: but he not fat. Someone someone's I'd be furious if
- 56:03Speaker 6: I was Mark.
- 56:08Speaker 1: You're trying to think of another fish out of water city.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I have watch a different straketions as a kid. That's true,
- 56:13Speaker 1: and Nanny's fish out of water. It's it's really a
- 56:16Speaker 1: sitcom statele, isn't It's like you should Prince the bel Air.
- 56:19Speaker 1: You don't belong in this situation.
- 56:21Speaker 6: Prince of bel Air the nanny.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Yeah, bes ex actually a fish in water as the
- 56:26Speaker 1: one guy who actually knew what was going on from
- 56:28Speaker 1: the sun. Many fishes out of water, actually many fish
- 56:32Speaker 1: out of water. Well, they say sip with the fishes.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Apparently the plural of fish is fish. But when you're
- 56:38Speaker 1: talking about different types of fish, that's when you say fishes.
- 56:42Speaker 1: English is so weird, isn't it. Why would you come
- 56:45Speaker 1: to America when you have to learn this fuck doublank
- 56:49Speaker 1: oh man, all.
- 56:50Speaker 6: Right, well that is I said our of you. I've
- 56:51Speaker 6: much approved about nothing. Would love to hear your thoughts
- 56:53Speaker 6: on the episode. I do read all of your emails,
- 56:55Speaker 6: so it's just mailbag a figure discount dot com dot au.
- 56:59Speaker 6: I'd love to hear from you. I send through some
- 57:00Speaker 6: mailbag questions for future episodes as well.
- 57:03Speaker 1: I will read them, I promise, yes.
- 57:05Speaker 6: And also please don't forget to rate and reviewers on
- 57:07Speaker 6: Apple Podcasts, Spotify whereby do you find this show? Got
- 57:09Speaker 6: over three hundred and fifty reviews now on Spotify, so
- 57:12Speaker 6: please keep them coming much appreciated.
- 57:14Speaker 1: And we've got over a fourteen.
- 57:15Speaker 6: Hundred I think on iTunes on Apple Wow, yeah, so
- 57:18Speaker 6: keep those coming as well.
- 57:19Speaker 1: It takes yet although all the star ones where people
- 57:21Speaker 1: actually write nice things.
- 57:22Speaker 6: Yes, so that's five star ratings, but also got plenty
- 57:24Speaker 6: of reviews coming through as well. We did read them
- 57:26Speaker 6: more and it's much appreciatid it boosts my ego when
- 57:28Speaker 6: I nearly throw in the towel like oh this one
- 57:30Speaker 6: person li like.
- 57:31Speaker 1: But I keep going and then Dan I boost my ego.
- 57:34Speaker 6: Screenshot and saying see soone late that well we do listen.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Ah, it's not just us talking the into the void,
- 57:41Speaker 1: not at all.
- 57:42Speaker 6: It's any final words for those incredible listeners out there.
- 57:44Speaker 1: We hope you've enjoyed this country. Bear Jamb Route
