- 0:00Speaker 1: I have here a list.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I know people love a list. Well, that's what I'm told.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll find out.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It's Radio From Hell with another list. Because people love
- 0:11Speaker 2: a good list.
- 0:13Speaker 3: X96. If the list doesn't last long enough, I also
- 0:19Speaker 3: have a story about New Zealand's oldest water skier.
- 0:24Speaker 2: People love a story about New Zealand's oldest water skier.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean old water skiers. That's pretty good.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's not as good as a water-skiing squirrel. No.
- 0:33Speaker 3: But the list I have here is the nine favorite
- 0:36Speaker 3: store-bought cookies that pastry chefs like. That pastry chefs like.
- 0:41Speaker 3: People who make cookies and pastries and so forth. If
- 0:44Speaker 3: you have to have a store-bought cookie.
- 0:48Speaker 1: These are the ones that they say they like.
- 0:49Speaker 2: These are experts.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Many of these pastry chefs, they say, pull inspiration from
- 0:56Speaker 3: the textures and flavors of of their favorite store-bought cookies,
- 0:59Speaker 3: even serving grown-up or modernized versions of them at their restaurants.
- 1:03Speaker 3: But although pastry chefs might be capable of improving on
- 1:06Speaker 3: mass-produced cookies, they do have a soft spot for the
- 1:09Speaker 3: original thing. Here are nine supermarket cookies that they keep
- 1:13Speaker 3: stocked in their pantries for a quick treat.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Okay. Do they keep all nine of them in their
- 1:18Speaker 2: pantries at the same time?
- 1:19Speaker 1: I don't think so. It reminds me that Gina.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Was talking the other day about, and I forget what
- 1:25Speaker 3: the restaurant was, But the restaurant, they had Oreos that
- 1:29Speaker 3: they soaked in red wine. And they were, so you'd
- 1:34Speaker 3: soak it in red wine and then kind of let
- 1:36Speaker 3: it dry out a little bit. And it was surprisingly delicious.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I have to try that again. But here we go.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Number one, and these are not in order of preference,
- 1:45Speaker 3: just numbers. Keebler Coconut Dreams.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Keebler Coconut Dreams.
- 1:52Speaker 3: These are very good. They are very much like Samoas,
- 1:56Speaker 3: the Girl Scout cookie, the Samoas.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I like those.
- 1:58Speaker 3: They're that kind of chewy, and I've had them before.
- 2:01Speaker 3: They've been around for quite a while. They're shortbread cookies
- 2:05Speaker 3: coated in caramel and toasted coconut with a milk chocolate
- 2:09Speaker 3: fudge drizzle.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I can only have like two or three of those.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It's so rich. I get sick of it really fast.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they are. They're very good. More for me.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Several pastry shifts say we really like those. Here's another
- 2:24Speaker 3: one that I've had, and they are good. Tate's Walnut
- 2:27Speaker 3: Chocolate Chip Cookies.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Walnut Chocolate Chip.
- 2:29Speaker 3: They're the only cookies that still taste the same to
- 2:32Speaker 3: me after all these years, says a pastry chef from
- 2:35Speaker 3: the pastry box in New York.
- 2:38Speaker 1: The texture in the chocolate never fails.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I'm sure pastry chefs allergic to nuts would disagree.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Here's another one that you would.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Nabisco Pinwheels. Okay.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Okay. I always pack pinwheels in my cooler for family
- 2:54Speaker 3: camping trips. They're soft chocolate cookies topped with way too
- 2:58Speaker 3: much marshmallow and dipped in chocolate.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It looks like a s'more in a cookie. Kind of, yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Kind of.
- 3:05Speaker 3: They're actually very much akin to a cookie that we
- 3:08Speaker 3: don't have here in the West, Malamar. The Malamars, which
- 3:13Speaker 3: is kind of a chocolate wafer.
- 3:15Speaker 2: What was the cookie you had in the studio a
- 3:17Speaker 2: couple weeks back? It kind of looks like that.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Like a Malamar?
- 3:21Speaker 2: No, you guys, it doesn't matter. I was hoping you
- 3:24Speaker 2: would remember.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Listen, I don't remember what I did 20 minutes ago.
- 3:28Speaker 2: That's true.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And apparently I watched the entire season of Task and
- 3:32Speaker 3: I've forgotten it. Next one on the list. These are
- 3:37Speaker 3: very good. But these I can't eat very many of
- 3:40Speaker 3: because I get that sugar-sweet-six feeling in my stomach.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Mother's Circus Animal Cookies.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Oh!
- 3:47Speaker 1: I love those.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I love those, too. Yeah, they're very good with milk,
- 3:52Speaker 3: but they're really sweet. Sarah Santa is the co-founder of
- 3:58Speaker 3: Heaps Ice Cream and Pies and Thighs in Brooklyn, and
- 4:02Speaker 3: she said these crunchy, yogurt-y, frosting, crumbly, slightly orange-scented animal
- 4:06Speaker 3: cracker and crunchy sprinklers are a combination I never get
- 4:09Speaker 3: sick of.
- 4:10Speaker 2: They leave a film on your hands if you eat
- 4:12Speaker 2: a lot of them, too. I remember that as a kid.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I can only eat you know, four or five of them.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I have like a texture thing with my hands. If
- 4:18Speaker 2: I have like, you know, any like film left of food,
- 4:21Speaker 2: it drives me insane. Chopsticks.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Chop. Ooh, not. Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Chopsticks and cookies. Chopsticks.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Or Cheetos or whatever. Chopsticks are perfect for Cheetos. Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 2: When I eat Doritos, which do the same thing, my
- 4:34Speaker 2: wife makes fun of me because I, uh, I bird it,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you know, like I take the bag and I pour
- 4:39Speaker 2: it directly in my mouth. Not because I'm a glutton,
- 4:41Speaker 2: but because I'm trying to avoid the film on my hands.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And so what you end up with is crumbs and
- 4:48Speaker 3: pieces of Dorito all over your face and your shirt.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's not on my hands, though, and that's what I
- 4:52Speaker 2: care more about.
- 4:53Speaker 3: The next one on the list, Keebler's Pecan Sandies. Of course,
- 4:58Speaker 3: Pecan Sandies. My favorite store-bought cookies are Pecan Sandies, said
- 5:03Speaker 3: Amanda Perdomo, who is the pastry chef. chef at Junior
- 5:07Speaker 3: & Son in Brooklyn. I'm obsessed with the mouthfeel and
- 5:09Speaker 3: the chew. And they're very good.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Pecan Sandies are great.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Here's one of Gina's favorites. The Biscoff. Lotus Biscoff cookie.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I can never resist a Biscoff cookie, says Sophia Scheinlein.
- 5:24Speaker 3: She's the corporate pastry chef for JF Restaurants. She said
- 5:28Speaker 3: they're wonderful, but man, if you crush them into a
- 5:33Speaker 3: cheesecake crust out of them, they're just great. A lot
- 5:36Speaker 3: of pastry chefs are using them for different things.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Walker's shortbread is the next one on the list. Always good.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Fudge stripe shortbread, also quite good. That's a Keebler, I think.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And then finally, Oreos. Now, I'm just, I think to
- 5:55Speaker 3: me Oreos are just kind of like.
- 5:57Speaker 2: They're fine. I agree with you.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Here's a texter.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I've been a baker for 17 years.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Over the years, my various co-workers and I will absolutely
- 6:05Speaker 3: devour Oreos.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Really? We always need to try the new ones.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I love an Oreo ice cream. Oreo ice cream is
- 6:13Speaker 2: some of the best ice cream out there. But Oreos
- 6:15Speaker 2: by themselves, not really my thing. Tim Tams is what
- 6:18Speaker 2: I was trying to think of.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Oh, I've had, yeah. Tim Tams.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Tim Tams. Those are very good. Those were in the
- 6:22Speaker 2: studio a couple.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Of weeks ago. Yeah, we had those. Tim Tams, yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And those peanut butter bars.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Peanut butter and chocolate. That's one of my favorite desserts
- 6:30Speaker 2: out there.
- 6:30Speaker 1: These peanut butter bars, though, they were a little.
- 6:33Speaker 2: waxy.
- 6:33Speaker 1: The chocolate was a little waxy.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You guys had peanut butter bars?
- 6:36Speaker 1: They were Little Debbie's. Little Debbie's.
- 6:40Speaker 3: So this is just to get us all ready for
- 6:43Speaker 3: the Donut Critics coming up today. Ben will be here
- 6:46Speaker 3: with and you know what?
- 6:50Speaker 1: He's bringing actual donuts today. Yeah?
- 6:53Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Donuts.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Oh yes.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Oh.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I mean like donuts.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Not cookies or biscuits or you know Oh.
- 7:03Speaker 1: This is going to be interesting. Or a slushie, you know.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Going back to Biscoffs, do you guys eat those outside
- 7:10Speaker 2: of a flight? I feel like I only have those
- 7:12Speaker 2: on planes.
- 7:13Speaker 3: We've got them at home to crush on and put
- 7:16Speaker 3: on different things.
- 7:17Speaker 2: They're good with coffee.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we rarely eat them just straight.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Now, that banana pudding, that nana pudding that I got
- 7:25Speaker 3: at CJ's Ribs, which was excellent, had a Biscoff. had
- 7:31Speaker 3: Biscoff crumbled up in it and a Biscoff cookie stuck
- 7:34Speaker 3: on the top of it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Who put Biscoff in my nana pudding? Much better than
- 7:37Speaker 1: Nilla Wafers. Gentlemen. All right.
