- 0:00Final segment with Gino as the Huskies take on Providence tomorrow six o'clock on the
- 0:04radio from the Excel Center over in the River one oh five nine and Friars
- 0:08had a chance to watch them. On Sunday, Fox FS one did a
- 0:11doubleheader. They had a Creighton in the Paul the first game around four o'clock
- 0:16and then Providence Saint John's and Saint John's is your next opponent after Providence at
- 0:21Alumni Hall. Friar's a little different new coaching staff that includes Kylie McLaren and
- 0:26like Yukon dealing with injuries, particularly in their backcourt. No Kylie Shepard,
- 0:30no grayci Fosa, So it's one of the grad assistants that's at time.
- 0:35Left is how they're starting point guard. That's crazy. I told you it's
- 0:40an epidemic. Man, I don't know what the heck is going on,
- 0:42but it's interesting that you know the way the Big East is going right now,
- 0:54you have no idea who's going to beat who anymore. There used to
- 0:58be some semblance of border you know, one, two, three, four,
- 1:03dse four teams are going to be really really good. This fifth one
- 1:07is going to upset everyone and then six seven, eight nine, you know
- 1:10whatever, Now you have no idea anymore, You have no idea. You
- 1:15know, people people lose home games to people. You go, I can't
- 1:19believe they lost that game. People win games. Then you go, that's
- 1:23a huge upset, and you start to say, you know, I don't
- 1:30think you can take any game lightly really, I mean, yeah, we've
- 1:33made we've made the biggiest look really easy this year during those first three games,
- 1:38yes, I get that any even going back to the Butler game,
- 1:44right right, Butler scored sixty two against us, by the way, Yeah,
- 1:49to a good start, Yeah, exactly, So Providence were a new
- 1:55coaching staff. Then you get the injuries. Now you go, okay,
- 2:00I wonder what they're gonna do. And you know that went against the Poul
- 2:07at home, right, Yeah, they went against the Paul. They go
- 2:10down a seat and home and beat Seaton Hall, who'll beat UNLV by twenty
- 2:15who's in the top twenty five. So there's no rhyme or reason to some
- 2:19of the stuff. But I know, you know, that's a great coaching
- 2:22stay up. They got great people over there, and they play great defense.
- 2:28I mean same with Georgetown. You know, teams that are challenged scoring
- 2:34wise, they do a really good job of keeping the keeping the game,
- 2:38you know, low scoring, and I would expect the Providence we try to
- 2:40do the same thing against us, and Saint Johns is always a pain of
- 2:44about to play oh, always always, you know, that's never changed in
- 2:50the two times in the Big East, you know. And we went out
- 2:52there to play them in that Ubs Center a couple of years ago last year
- 2:57and it was a blowout. We won by one hundred. Yeah, and
- 3:00I couldn't believe it. And then they come here and they beat us.
- 3:02So there's no rhyme or reason to what, you know, just it's funny.
- 3:08We just had that conversation with our team today, the way you prevent
- 3:13any nonsense from happening the best of your ability, not that it won't happen,
- 3:16but I said, don't we just do the same thing for every game?
- 3:22I said, we just watched film on Providence, and you would not
- 3:25know if we were watching film on Providence or South Carolina. We just went
- 3:30through our scattering report on Providence and you wouldn't know whether it was Providence or
- 3:36UCLA. Everything we do is exactly the same. There's a reason for that,
- 3:39so you never have to feel like, oh, this is a really
- 3:43big game today, Oh this is not a big game. Throw all big
- 3:47games. Throw all big games, and if you want to win the biggest
- 3:52championship in my mind, win them all. Then you don't have to worry.
- 3:55That's right. Well, over the weekend, the Huskies of course not
- 4:00class last week, so it was Creighton the DC where they had some downtime,
- 4:03Arlington on Friday and they did the Holocaust Museum or the African American History
- 4:10Museum and Culture, one of the Smisonian buildings. On Saturday. You did
- 4:14Arlington. That's a powerful place. And of course you saw the changing of
- 4:16the guard once again. Yeah. Yeah, I can't tell you how many
- 4:20times I've been there. And actually when I was coaching the Olympic team,
- 4:28me and the two captains went out with General Dempsey and we changed the wreath
- 4:31that they that they have there at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. And
- 4:35I don't care if you've been there one hundred times. It is such an
- 4:40emotional ceremony when they changed the guard and Nica just turned around one point and
- 4:45said everything is perfect. I said, yeah, everything is perfect. There
- 4:56is no what was that there is no my bad, there is no mistakes,
- 5:02none, zero. So afterwards we were asking one of the guys there,
- 5:08we said, how did they get to do this? Well, they
- 5:10train, they train every day. There's like forty of them and they rotate
- 5:15and you have to be selected. You have to have a perfect record,
- 5:17you have to whatever you have to do. And she said, and the
- 5:21tour guide said, and they never get anything wrong, even at practice.
- 5:28And I turned around and looked at the team and they all went, oh
- 5:30God, really, did he really just say that? So that was a
- 5:34lighter moment. But and to me, you know, you know, my
- 5:42grandfather is buried in Egypt, you know, during World War Two. Kathy,
- 5:47my wife's father was a ship commander in World War Two. He's buried
- 5:55at the Long Island National Cemetery. So I think there's every family in America
- 6:01if you look back far enough, that has a history of you know,
- 6:04military service. And it's just so impressive and so incredibly moving. And then
- 6:12for them the next day, I have been there and I needed to,
- 6:16you know, I needed to do some stuff. But for them to for
- 6:21a lot of those that's the first time they've probably been to the Holocaust Museum,
- 6:25you know, and an the African American Culture Museum. Some of them
- 6:33have never been there, and they have to know the history, you know,
- 6:39they have to know the history. I don't know the history is being
- 6:42taught that much in school these days, but they have to know the history.
- 6:46It's our job to teach them the history. So at one point,
- 6:49you know, when we told them what the schedule was, and then we
- 6:53said, you know, when we go to New York, we're going to
- 6:55try to go to nine to eleven Memorial. I think one of them at
- 6:58some point goes, are we ever going to do anything that's like fun and
- 7:00lighthearted? Like everything is like heavy, heavy, heavy, right, And
- 7:05we laughed about it, and he said, well, it's part of the
- 7:09history of this country that you know, I don't think should ever be forgotten.
- 7:13So I'm proud of them. They were really they were really caught up
- 7:18in the whole thing. And I'm glad we did it. We always do
- 7:24it, but I'm glad we did it with this group, right, And
- 7:26We'll leave it at that. Gino is always a pleasure. We'll talk tomorrow
- 7:28night for the game, Okay, Bob, Hey, coach Gino ramble with
- 7:30us on the Coaches Show. Stay tuned. K k Arnold is next on
- 7:33the Wells Fargo Bank You kind of women's basketball Coaches Show from Deerfield
