Eventually fantastic. By the way, I love how I line this up and
• 0:06
I can't even put on a decent shirt for my guy over here. Oh
• 0:09
whatever, you look good. You look good always, dude. First of
• 0:13
all, so good to catch up with you. Man, I know the
• 0:17
biggest thing you've been up to in life wise, Let me ask this because
• 0:22
I know that you're getting just hammered with wedding questions, right, and you're
• 0:26
like, I also just put out a new song, So the only thing
• 0:29
I want to say wedding wise was from a groom's perspective, right. This
• 0:33
is always a night that girls think about forever and then guys eventually go,
• 0:36
oh, well, I guess I'll get married someday too. What was it
• 0:40
like through your eyes that night, watching your family, watching her family,
• 0:43
and watching the woman that now shares your last name. I mean, one
• 0:49
of the most emotional times in my life, just because I think, like
• 0:53
you said, I mean, I waited a long time for that to happen,
• 0:57
and there was a time of my life I didn't know that it would
• 1:00
ever happened. And everybody always says you'll know when you know and all,
• 1:03
and I just was like, man, I don't know if I'm gonna know,
• 1:07
and and I really do believe that now I think you do and the
• 1:11
girl can change everything for you. And that's kind of how it felt.
• 1:14
Man. We've enjoyed celebrating and you know, having the song around it and
• 1:18
just everything like having something out that I'm literally going through in life is just
• 1:23
I don't know, how's special. So it was a great time. Thank
• 1:25
you for asking about that. Man, it's been it's been wide open a
• 1:29
month and a half for sure. That's nuts. Like I looked at your
• 1:33
schedule, like I thought, obviously I follow you on Instagram, I'm watching
• 1:34
you doing that, and then all of a sudden, now I'm seeing you
• 1:38
with tour dates. You you should have put your wedding on a tour date
• 1:42
t shirt. Right, It's like you're gonna have to get a cut of
• 1:48
that. That's that's really good. What in the middle of it did the
• 1:53
wedding last wedding thing? I promise you, because I know that you're good,
• 1:57
did it lay out perfect? Because it literally felt like you were busy
• 2:01
doing stuff. You were sharing a lot of you know, making new music
• 2:04
and all this, and then like and then like the wedding kind of fit
• 2:07
in like a little lego piece and then boom, you're on the road again.
• 2:10
Was that intentional or were you like, let's hurry up. Yeah.
• 2:14
When we when we got engaged last May, I was looking at the I
• 2:19
actually I did not look at the schedule because I'm like, man, there's
• 2:22
no way that this tour right now, we're on the Wind the Night tour
• 2:24
with Dylan Scott and friends. It wasn't even booked yet, Like the dates
• 2:30
weren't set. So I was like, there's no way I have a show
• 2:31
in twenty twenty four, so let's just pick a date. And we loved
• 2:35
the date, six twelve, twenty four, and so we booked the venue.
• 2:39
And I just happened to look at my schedule a couple of days later,
• 2:43
and I had a show on June fifteenth, and I'm like, oh
• 2:46
my god in Minnesota. I'm like, oh my gosh. Man that I
• 2:49
was like, that's uh, we're not gonna get the honeymoon right away.
• 2:52
We're gonna have to get married. We got to spend the next day in
• 2:54
Napoli doing some wine tours, and then went and did a show in Minnesota
• 2:59
and went to went on a honeymoon. So it was just like I said,
• 3:02
we didn't plan it. Uh, probably the best time, but it's
• 3:06
just like I said, man, it's once in a lifetime thing, and
• 3:08
to be able to to spend it, you know, in the middle of
• 3:10
a tour kind of we we took a little break. Thank thank god for
• 3:14
the guys. I'm sure they were cool having a little break too, but
• 3:17
for me to get to do a little honeymoon and then reception and uh then
• 3:21
how you We're back at it tonight. We're here in Phoenix, and uh
• 3:24
yeah, it's gonna be. We're just gonna play the rest of the year.
• 3:28
You know, I had plenty off time in the beginning of the year.
• 3:30
So now I'm just I'm glad to be back to work and just uh
• 3:32
married man, crazy dude, get after it. Brother. Uh well,
• 3:36
so last thing, I'm just happy for you, dude, because you're a
• 3:38
guy who deserves the world. And I've gotten to know you fairly well over
• 3:43
the over the last gosh ten plus years, and it's you're one of my
• 3:46
favorites brother. Always. I tell everybody that, so that means a lot.
• 3:50
And I feel the same about you. Man. You are one of
• 3:52
the most anytime I can talk to a col Swan Delphan, I'm like,
• 3:54
you picked a good one and picked a good one, dude. Thank you
• 3:59
so musically, you take me through where you're at, because obviously you had
• 4:02
put out some fantastic music. We have the latest single right called Forever to
• 4:06
Me, which is being played all over the country making its way towards top
• 4:12
forty, and then you know, doing what it does after that. Yeah,
• 4:15
where are you musically? As far as you know somebody who myself is
• 4:18
a fan of your music, I'm kind of like, I love this?
• 4:21
What else you got? Right? Absolutely, we've got Like I said,
• 4:26
I'm I'm ready to get this album out just as much as you know everybody
• 4:29
else is ready to hear it. I think so right now, we're just
• 4:31
kind of putting out songs until we, you know, have the release date
• 4:34
and whenever we decide is the right time to do that. But got a
• 4:39
new song coming this month in a week or two, and I'm really excited
• 4:43
about that one. Ernest Chase McGill, Jordan Smith's some of my favorite writers
• 4:47
are on that one, and I'm just excited to get it out. It's
• 4:50
a little up tempo, and it's also a love song, man. I
• 4:53
think you know musically, I've always I say it on stage every night.
• 4:57
I've been like the breakup song guy my entire life. And now I got
• 5:00
a little room on the album for some for some love song stuff. But
• 5:03
like I said, I still want it to be I'm not making a wedding
• 5:06
album or anything. Don't worry I I I just you know, I want
• 5:11
to I want to have something for everybody always because even though this is the
• 5:15
phase I'm in in life, I've been through the other phases too, and
• 5:17
there's somebody out there that needs to hear the sad stuff, and there's people
• 5:21
out there that want to hear the happy stuff too. So it's just life's
• 5:25
all of it. And that's kind of how I go into every album,
• 5:28
is just wanting to have a song for everybody on there, no matter what
• 5:31
phase of life you're in. And I'm still trying to get there. Man.
• 5:34
The last album, Stereotype, it did a lot of big things for
• 5:38
us, but it puts puts pressure, and I you know, it's hard
• 5:42
to follow that up. I mean, she had me, it has Carolina
• 5:44
even I mean, it's just a tough thing to do. You're thankful for
• 5:46
those songs, but it's like it puts a good kind of pressure on you
• 5:49
to you got to live up to that, and it's it's it's been interesting.
• 5:55
But like I said, the last album, Stereotype, it took over
• 5:58
three years to make, and it feels like it's coming up on that,
• 6:00
so I think we're we'll know when the time's right. But I'm just still
• 6:03
writing and getting a lot of songs sent that I love, and I'm just
• 6:08
so thankful for the songwriters in Nashville. Man, they are the best of
• 6:12
the best, and I'm glad to just say I can pin a few of
• 6:15
them. You know, the uh you've brought up how it took about three
• 6:18
years to put Stereotype together with how fast music is consumed by people these days,
• 6:24
you're lucky if an album like really last six months, right or at
• 6:29
least because maybe a song or two, well, but like to connect that
• 6:32
Stereotype album, dude, And I'm not saying like, because you're my guy.
• 6:35
That's a great album start to finish, So what does it mean to
• 6:39
put that much time in? It looks three years later, like it's it's
• 6:43
still pretty dominant for you. Yeah, I mean that. To me,
• 6:46
it's just you know, kind of telling myself through these times. You know,
• 6:48
I'm just being real. It's when you don't have new music out,
• 6:51
it kind of you feel like you've been left behind kind of a little.
• 6:55
It's you want to get it out there, but you also know you've got
• 6:58
to put out the best of the stuff can And for me, I just
• 7:01
try to tell myself. Look, you felt the same way in the middle
• 7:04
of making stereotype, like what are we gonna do? We're just not ready,
• 7:08
and then all of a sudden we write she had me at his Carolina,
• 7:10
and it's I can imagine the album without that song. So we're just,
• 7:15
like I said, just taking it, you know, song by song
• 7:16
and making sure that it's it's right because and you're so that's a great point
• 7:23
you made that people, I mean, six months in, they're tired of
• 7:26
they want something new, you know, the way music's consumed. And to
• 7:29
me, I agree with that. I love I want to put out as
• 7:31
much music as I can. But you know, right now, we're just
• 7:34
we got a new song coming here soon called One Day. I hadn't even
• 7:39
told anybody that, so I'm excited to put that out and yeah, we'll
• 7:44
just go from there. But for me, it really is I'm ready to
• 7:46
get it out and just ready to have new music out and new music in
• 7:49
my show, live show too. Let me ask you before we move on,
• 7:54
I want to hit forever. One thing about Forever to me obviously it's
• 7:57
you mentioned it's it's a personal story and it's nice to like live it while
• 8:01
it's kind of living for other people as well, knowing that what you do
• 8:05
for a living. Is there a song and I promise I won't ask any
• 8:07
questions about it? Is there a song that you created for your new wife
• 8:15
that is just something that I'm not saying it's mixed and mastered and you know,
• 8:18
produced, but maybe something you wrote and maybe performed for her, or
• 8:22
saying to her something that exists just from you to her. You know,
• 8:26
Forever to me is pretty much that's the one. You know. I've written
• 8:31
several songs though with her in mind, and that's that's what's crazy about it.
• 8:35
It's kind of I write, you know, the way I feel,
• 8:37
and these days, like I said, I got a little more room for
• 8:39
love songs. But that one was the one when me and Graylyn and Rocky
• 8:43
wrote that I played it for right away just because I was like, man,
• 8:46
I could not sum up any better. Uh, you know how I
• 8:50
feel about her, and that's to me, that's it. But I'll I
• 8:52
got a feeling I'll be writing songs about her for a long time and just
• 8:58
I can't wait to share them with everybody. Like I said, it's a
• 9:01
  it's a new thing for me. Man. I'm it's a different chapter,
• 9:03
but it's a good chapter and I'm just just thankful for it. So listen,
• 9:07
and you tell her that she can enjoy the love songs. But you
• 9:11
have like a male Taylor Swift in you where if things go south, Cole
• 9:13
Swindell is going to write a banger. Yeah. I think she knows that
• 9:18
she's she's She's heard the rest of them. So but like I said,
• 9:22
man, it's just it's a different place for me. But I absolutely love
• 9:26
it and I'm the happiest I've ever been. So I just I hope my
• 9:30
music shows this. I hope the new album shows that, and we can,
• 9:33
like I said, man, touch everybody with this thing and just try
• 9:37
to try to get it out as soon as we can. So you don't
• 9:39
have full album details shared publicly let yet, but but you did mention that
• 9:43
you're writing and you plan on putting out songs here and there are these just
• 9:48
for the hell of its songs? Or do you act is this like leading
• 9:50
up to reading up? This is leading up to the album and that's you
• 9:54
know, we're just kind of judging by what the single forever to me's doing
• 9:58
and picking the right time. It's it's a lot of people putting on music.
• 10:01
I mean, these days, it's somebody puts out an album every week,
• 10:05
I feel like, So it's just we want to have the right time
• 10:07
and let this album have its moment. And like I said, man,
• 10:11
I'm really excited though, it's just, you know, five albums. When
• 10:15
I moved to Nashville, I didn't I just dreamed of writing one song,
• 10:18
much less having five albums. So pretty pretty cool, dude, One good
• 10:22
song face for a great album, right, That's what I'm saying. That's
• 10:26
what I'm waiting on. Just one one more going. Man, We're we're
• 10:28
working hard, and it's I think it's we've got already got some great stuff.
• 10:33
But I just think these next couple of months are going to be crucial
• 10:37
to to finishing it up and making sure it can follow up stereotype. What
• 10:41
from where you sit? What makes an album complete, because it's more a
• 10:46
puzzle for you then for us, we just hit play and let it rip
• 10:48
right, But for you, it's it's gotta fit right. Yeah, it's
• 10:54
like I said, I mean, I think, you know, touching on
• 10:56
subjects I've never touched on before, I think that's a big part. But
• 11:00
then also having those staples, the you know, whether it's a party song
• 11:03
or a breakup song, whatever it is. I just want, you know,
• 11:05
like I said earlier, I just want to have something for everybody on
• 11:09
there, because even though I'm going through this time of my life, I've
• 11:11
not always been in this phase, and there's somebody out there that needs to
• 11:16
hear stuff that lets them know, Hey, tomorrow's coming and you're gonna be
• 11:18
You're gonna be all right. And that's like I said, that's why I
• 11:22
love country music is because it's there's something for everybody. I mean, whatever
• 11:26
you're going through, you can find a song for it. And you know,
• 11:28
I think that speaks to the stories, the lyrics. That's the reason
• 11:33
I love country music, and I hope that, like you said that,
• 11:35
I can have something for everybody on there, no matter what you're going through
• 11:39
and just let them know. That's what I've always wanted to do, is
• 11:41
relate to people through my music and let them know that I'm just like you.
• 11:45
You know, I get to do what I love. But I've you
• 11:48
know, life ain't always fun. I understand that. So this may be
• 11:52
a tough question to answer because you're still writing, which means the album isn't
• 11:54
done, and you said it needs to have a little something for everybody.
• 11:58
So what is this album missing in your eyes? That has it's not done
• 12:03
yet? I tell you, I think I've got the love songs cover that's
• 12:07
what kind of what I'm going through. But I also have to dig deeper
• 12:11
and realize that, man, remember where you were five years ago or six
• 12:13
years ago. That's there's somebody out there, you know, right there going
• 12:16
through that. And I think we've got a good balance of things. But
• 12:20
I was saying the other day for reference, like beer never broke my heart
• 12:24
like an anthem, break like ain't worth a whiskey that was That's one of
• 12:26
my favorite songs still to play live. And I think I think we're missing
• 12:31
that. So any songwriters watching, let's uh, let's get on that one.
• 12:33
That's what That's what I think I'm missing, Just an anthem party,
• 12:37
whether it's breakup song or not. Just I just want something that people can
• 12:41
have fun, to raise a glass too, and just forget about whatever's bothering
• 12:45
them. You know, I was a big fan of aint Worth the Whiskey,
• 12:48
and Telly was said me. So next date wise, in between now
• 12:54
and the end of the year. Obviously, you have a lovely new wife,
• 12:58
you have all these all these adventures that you guys are going to start
• 13:00
to have together. Outside of that and the touring. What are things that
• 13:03
you yourself are looking forward to when it comes time to unplug. Yeah,
• 13:09
I mean golf, anytime I can play golf. Still not any better,
• 13:13
but still love it the same. We're taking a little trip up to Corterline,
• 13:18
Idaho next week, so we're excited about that, just to kind of,
• 13:22
you know, get out and get on the lake and just relax.
• 13:26
You know. It's been, like I said, we've had some off time,
• 13:28
but it hadn't really felt like off time. We've been wide open,
• 13:31
back and forth, and but we've got to see a lot of family,
• 13:35
and to me, that's always important. Like I said on the road,
• 13:39
it's amazing, but we don't always. We still miss people back home and
• 13:41
we got to spend a lot of time with them. But just me and
• 13:43
Courtney getting away and getting to hang out in Idaho should be. Should be
• 13:48
pretty cool. Speaking of that golf downtime, when you're back in Middle Tennessee
• 13:52
here, your boy hasn't swung clubs in like ten years. So if you
• 13:54
need to beat the hell out of some of the nah, no, we
• 13:58
don't. We just have fun. I guarantee me and you could have a
• 14:00
good time. So let's let's plan that. Seriously. When I'm back,
• 14:03
man, I'd love to take you out distributor and let's just have a day.
• 14:07
Let's rock. That sounds good to me. Ay, last thing I
• 14:09
want to ask you before I let you run, And you don't have to
• 14:11
answer either, but I gotta try. You said, an album is coming.
• 14:16
Do we have a date or months? Or do you know what the
• 14:20
album is called yet? You know, I hadn't picked a name for the
• 14:26
album I've thought about. I mean, it's that that is something that's important
• 14:28
to me. I mean, every song that you record is like, could
• 14:31
that be an album title? And I think we've got a few good options,
• 14:35
but and also a release date. I don't have an exact date,
• 14:37
but you know, I want to put an album out before the year's over.
• 14:41
Obviously. It's just kind of the way things work and the way people,
• 14:45
you know, watch singles and you kind of want to release it when
• 14:48
when it's peaking and doing all that. So it's kind of kind of tough
• 14:50
to call at the moment. But like I said, I think that just
• 14:54
gives me more time to make sure it's just right. And you know,
• 14:58
I'm hoping to have it out by the end of the year. The label
• 15:00
feels the same way, so just trying to We've got a few more things
• 15:03
to record, uh, me and Jordan Schmidt Zach Crowell has already done several
• 15:07
things and me and Jordan are getting in the studio soon and trying to finish
• 15:11
this thing up, so hopefully by the end of the year. And but
• 15:13
I'm like I said, I'm excited about giving y' all new song very soon.
• 15:18
Uh call one day and like I said, I hadn't told anybody the
• 15:20
title of that, but that's uh, that's the next one. And I
• 15:24
think you are gonna love it. It's a it's a fun one and just
• 15:26
upbeat and just it's fun. So I appreciate it, my man. And
• 15:31
last thing, I missed the stash. That's it. I missed the stash
• 15:33
that key West it was you gotta take it all to get back. I
• 15:39
mean, yeah, she likes it, so I may, I may bring
• 15:41
it back. I just she did and I do that. It's like yes,
• 15:45
Like after a long night, I'm like, why did I do that?
• 15:48
Like why did I think that was a great idea? You know what?
• 15:50
You know? Why she likes an interview or some kind of big event
• 15:52
coming up. I'm like, they're gonna think I'm the biggest idiot and I
• 15:58
might be wrong. She like she likes it because ain't no girl coming to
• 16:02
steal a guy with him. That's exactly probably why she loves it. It's
• 16:04
like, well, I don't. I ain't gotta worry about it now.
• 16:07
I look at that guy. Hey, dude, I know you're busy and
• 16:11
you fit us in last minute. It means the world, dude, and
• 16:12
I think the world are you? So thanks, brother, I've been waiting
• 16:15
on this talk for a while. Brother, good to see you, and
• 16:18
I just appreciate you always being on my side. Man. I'm pull for
• 16:22
you too and big fans, so I hope to see you soon soon,
• 16:26
all right, you hollered me. Love you brother, Be safe, Love
• 16:29
  you buddy,
