Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon listeners. Thank you so much for listening
• 0:03
Speaker 1: to lament of hope podcast as you guys know We
• 0:07
Speaker 1: are nearing our 300th episode, which is amazing And so
• 0:12
Speaker 1: many people from around the world with different struggles and
• 0:15
Speaker 1: stories And it's all because of you guys and your support.
• 0:18
Speaker 1: So i'm super grateful I feel like I have to
• 0:21
Speaker 1: say that every time I start because I just it
• 0:23
Speaker 1: always blows me away when I think about it.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: And um With this, it's like someone telling you that
• 0:34
Speaker 2: they're suicidal and you're just handing them a gun instead.
• 0:38
Speaker 2: And we take away the opportunity for hope. We take
• 0:44
Speaker 2: away the opportunity to heal those parts of us that
• 0:49
Speaker 2: can be healed. And that doesn't mean it's an easy journey.
• 0:54
Speaker 2: I'm not saying like, hey, you're going to have somebody
• 0:56
Speaker 2: next to you and everything's going to be better and whatever.
• 0:59
Speaker 2: You know, we're all going to smile and move on
• 1:01
Speaker 2: and tomorrow's perfect. You know, there are some really long
• 1:06
Speaker 2: journeys to go through that are difficult. But there's so
• 1:16
Speaker 2: much love and beauty behind walking through somebody during those
• 1:24
Speaker 2: times of their life. I have family members who have
• 1:28
Speaker 2: recently passed away and I got to be there with them.
• 1:32
Speaker 2: And what an honor to be a part of their
• 1:38
Speaker 2: life at the end of their life. And I think
• 1:42
Speaker 2: that we just, we don't put enough emphasis on everything
• 1:51
Speaker 2: there is to learn and experience at every stage of life.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: You know, you have a really good point about how
• 2:03
Speaker 1: if people are suicidal, we want to get them help.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: But it does seem that when people are choosing to die,
• 2:14
Speaker 1: I guess in a dignified manner, which is how we
• 2:17
Speaker 1: get the phrase deaf with dignity, It seems to switch.
• 2:22
Speaker 1: It seems to be that from what I've seen and heard,
• 2:27
Speaker 1: people will say, well, they want to die and they're
• 2:30
Speaker 1: doing it in a dignified manner that is legal in
• 2:34
Speaker 1: wherever they're doing it. Therefore, it's okay. And I find
• 2:40
Speaker 1: that really interesting. If it's okay to choose... your death,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: which is, I mean, it is suicide because you could
• 2:50
Speaker 1: keep living, you know, but you're choosing to end it.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: So you're putting an end date on your life, but
• 2:56
Speaker 1: you're doing it via a way that is legal or
• 2:59
Speaker 1: via medicine or a way that is really covered, cloaked
• 3:05
Speaker 1: from the world, right? We don't see what's going to happen.
• 3:08
Speaker 1: We just know that's going to happen. And usually when
• 3:10
Speaker 1: it does, it's maybe one family member is there. Maybe
• 3:14
Speaker 1: no one's there. It's just the clinician who's ever doing
• 3:18
Speaker 1: the administering of the drug.
• 3:21
Speaker 2: And they actually have to be in most places I
• 3:25
Speaker 2: believe there's a couple places that have put new twists
• 3:28
Speaker 2: on it but one of the requirements is that the
• 3:31
Speaker 2: patient needs to be able to administer it themselves and
• 3:35
Speaker 2: a lot of people are trying to add more things
• 3:39
Speaker 2: into the law to make it easier for people, which
• 3:43
Speaker 2: is how you get people with depression, anorexia, diabetes, being
• 3:48
Speaker 2: allowed to kill themselves now. Yeah.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: And I wanted to ask you, why do you think
• 3:54
Speaker 1: that is? Why is it that if it's done that way,
• 4:00
Speaker 1: as opposed to when you think of a typical suicide,
• 4:04
Speaker 1: it's a little more messy, right? Or it's just The
• 4:07
Speaker 1: person's suddenly gone. It's not legal. But it's literally the
• 4:12
Speaker 1: same thing except sterilized, if that makes any sense. It's
• 4:16
Speaker 1: so different, but the same. It's just, in a way,
• 4:19
Speaker 1: no one sees it. It's legal. You can do it.
• 4:24
Speaker 1: But it's the same repercussions for people. So why do
• 4:29
Speaker 1: you think that there seems to be a moral switch
• 4:32
Speaker 1: in people's minds between suicide that we think of Since
• 4:38
Speaker 1: the Dawn of Time or Euthanasia.
