- 0:42Speaker 2: News and your listener feedback. And now reports of their
- 0:46Speaker 2: assimilation have been greatly exaggerated. It's Daniel Reyes and Dan Lombardo.
- 0:53Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Hey, check it out? Check out Dan.
- 0:59Speaker 3: It's so well the first week in November. There's still
- 1:03Speaker 3: a lot of leftover spookiness.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Oh yes, yes, yes, things out.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I think we're good. Just remember, uh, no job is
- 1:18Speaker 3: too big, no fee is too big for all your
- 1:22Speaker 3: supernatal needs. How's your hollowday, guys?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Old enough where my oldest son is in college, and
- 1:31Speaker 2: my youngest son is old enough where he just goes
- 1:33Speaker 2: trick or treating by himself, So him and his friends
- 1:36Speaker 2: right on. So I think that last year was the
- 1:39Speaker 2: last year that I I went trick or treating with
- 1:42Speaker 2: my kids. Well, all right, you grand kids, Before you
- 1:46Speaker 2: know it, you'll be doing.
- 1:47Speaker 3: It all over again.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Oh god, and see I I black out my house
- 1:54Speaker 1: because as a single man living in a home alone,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's weird to be like, hey, you kids want some candy.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:03Speaker 3: You should put an ice cream truck in the driveway.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Oh god, it says that says lots and lots of candy.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And just see if you can make the.
- 2:11Speaker 2: News like a white forty Cono van. That's like, yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 2: it free candy. That'd be great.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Nont do any of those things.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Halloween is that's my wife's favorite holiday. If she really
- 2:28Speaker 2: likes to do it up. I bought her. One of
- 2:32Speaker 2: the surprizes I got heard this year is uh Low's
- 2:35Speaker 2: had a six and a half foot Jack Skellington dressed
- 2:40Speaker 2: as Santa Claus animatronic talks to you. It's got a
- 2:43Speaker 2: little motion sensor. So I bought that for And it's
- 2:46Speaker 2: great because it it's it can it can stay out
- 2:50Speaker 2: for a long time. You can set it up it
- 2:52Speaker 2: like on October first, and because it's Jack Skellington from
- 2:55Speaker 2: Nightmare before Christmas, you can leave it up until Memorial Day, really,
- 2:59Speaker 2: you know, right, which is probably what's gonna happen.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I don't know what's I don't know what's going on
- 3:04Speaker 3: in the rest of the country. But in the Northeast,
- 3:08Speaker 3: all those people that bought those twenty foot skeletons a
- 3:11Speaker 3: few years ago, they've just been leaving them out year round.
- 3:14Speaker 3: There's a couple places where you can you can drive
- 3:16Speaker 3: by in April and there's just a twenty foot skeleton
- 3:20Speaker 3: in the yard.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna work to put up, Like my good Yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 2: one of my friends has one of those twenty foot
- 3:27Speaker 2: skeletons and like an eight foot dog and it's like, man,
- 3:30Speaker 2: that's a lot of I don't have the room for
- 3:32Speaker 2: any of that. Like I don't know where, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 2: you gotta store. You gotta like bury it in the
- 3:35Speaker 2: backyard and dig it up every year.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I couldn't imagine.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Man.
- 3:43Speaker 1: There's there's a house a couple like the next street
- 3:46Speaker 1: over and they just do up their yard giant for
- 3:48Speaker 1: every holiday, like Halloween, Christmas. I think one year they
- 3:54Speaker 1: did it for for Independence Day. They had like a
- 3:57Speaker 1: bald eagle, like a giant one.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Oh my god, you got to pick your battles. Like.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, my wife'savorite holidays Halloween, so you know, she decorates,
- 4:05Speaker 2: she brings out the Halloween decorations. And my favorite holiday
- 4:08Speaker 2: is Christmas. So you know, it just looks like Santa
- 4:12Speaker 2: Claus threw up in our house. And you know, we
- 4:14Speaker 2: do a little bit of decorating for the other holidays.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I'll put out a you know, a green little something
- 4:19Speaker 2: for Saint Patrick's Day, it's a red, white, and blue.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I mean, I love Groundhogs Day, but that's my favorite holiday.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It doesn't love Groundhogs Day. It's so ridiculous, right, So, yeah, Halloween,
- 4:30Speaker 2: fun holiday. Everybody had a good time. I dressed up
- 4:35Speaker 2: as my wife, dressed up as Reddy Krueger, and I
- 4:38Speaker 2: dressed up as somebody that only who lives in this
- 4:41Speaker 2: part of Michigan would understand. There's a I think I
- 4:45Speaker 2: talked about it a couple of weeks ago, but there's
- 4:47Speaker 2: a local farmer named Jean. He's known as Jean the
- 4:50Speaker 2: Pumpkin Man. He passed away last year and he's he
- 4:54Speaker 2: sold He had a big giant farm and sold pumpkins
- 4:56Speaker 2: every year. Oh okay, and he his thing was orange.
- 5:00Speaker 2: He had or you know, he dressed in orange, had
- 5:03Speaker 2: orange stuff, had drove an orange Cadillac orange hat. And
- 5:07Speaker 2: so when he when he passed away. His family had
- 5:10Speaker 2: an a state sale and I actually owned one of
- 5:11Speaker 2: his button up orange shirts, and so I wore that
- 5:15Speaker 2: orange hat like he used to wear that I got.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah. It was one of those like local legends.
- 5:22Speaker 1: We've got a few over here too.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it was good fun. Everybody at the party
- 5:27Speaker 2: that I went to recognized me right away, so cool.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Right on. We we had my my birthday party yesterday.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Happy birthday, yes, thank you, Yes, Happy birthday.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Dan, y, thank you. And we we went to the
- 5:43Speaker 1: Jedi Alliance, a giant arcade here in Spokane. Yeah, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: the kids went nuts, especially the boys. For twelve and
- 5:53Speaker 1: fourteen year old boys, that was like the best place ever. Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 1: they went absolutely nuts. And then we got pizza afterwards
- 6:01Speaker 1: and then got to watch the World Series, so.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, what's better than that playing? Yeah, video games
- 6:07Speaker 2: and pizza and baseball.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, very very Yeah, the boys loved it. Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 3: So I just opened up and it's called it's a
- 6:21Speaker 3: wreck room like recreation like w r ET and c
- 6:26Speaker 3: K and I just saw a Facebook post about it.
- 6:29Speaker 3: But I but I think what it is is like
- 6:31Speaker 3: you go in there and you pay and whatever's in
- 6:35Speaker 3: the room you can you can break it, like you
- 6:37Speaker 3: can choose a baseball.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they have.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm kind of I kind of want to. I
- 6:45Speaker 3: kind of want to check it out with the goal of, like,
- 6:51Speaker 3: I want to get kicked out of this place.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I want to.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I want to, Like I want them to be like,
- 6:57Speaker 3: oh no, no, no, sir, you went too far. You you
- 7:00Speaker 3: broke too much stuff. You know, what do you mean,
- 7:04Speaker 3: sirry you broke the register?
- 7:05Speaker 2: I mean, what's that part of it? I like taking appliances,
- 7:12Speaker 2: you know that we don't use any more drills or
- 7:14Speaker 2: anything with the cord on it, tying it up in
- 7:16Speaker 2: the in the backyard and just shooting at it. Nice.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Okay, you want to you want to get them to
- 7:23Speaker 1: kick you out, Dan stuff your pockets with some fake
- 7:26Speaker 1: blood packs and then put them in the stuff that
- 7:28Speaker 1: you're about to smash, and then I beat it so
- 7:30Speaker 1: bad it's bleeding. They won't know what to do with you.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I'm just gonna I'm gonna start beating up the attendant.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And then I misunderstood. I mis understood.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Then you don't need blood packs. It'll happen inside.
- 7:50Speaker 3: You know, I wrecked him. I thought that's what it
- 7:53Speaker 3: was them you damn here kill them?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh god?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Oh well, what are we what are we doing here today? Yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 2: so'scast that's right.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That's right. We are doing a podcast. Uh, a lot
- 8:15Speaker 1: of different crazy news stories. And then we also got
- 8:17Speaker 1: a review of Star Trek First Contact, so yeah, it
- 8:21Speaker 1: should be fun. Well, we should probably get to it.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So let's play the Star Trek News.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Let's do it Star Trek news.
- 8:33Speaker 1: All right, So our first news story today comes to
- 8:35Speaker 1: us from the Hollywood Reporter, and it is a bit
- 8:38Speaker 1: of sad news. This just came over the wire this weekend.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But from what I've read in another story, Ralph, is
- 8:46Speaker 1: it Sananenski? Since since sin Sinski? I'm sorry if I'm
- 8:52Speaker 1: butchering that name. Uh. He was the last surviving director
- 8:56Speaker 1: from the original series Star Trek. Oh wow, that's what
- 9:00Speaker 1: it's in another article. I don't know if that's true,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but that's what it said. He was one hundred and
- 9:05Speaker 1: two years old. Yeah, that's a run. That's a good run.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And it's like he has so much life to live
- 9:18Speaker 3: taking work, but for a human.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, one hundred is a good good run.
- 9:23Speaker 2: That's in fact, it's one of the best runs.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah he uh he directed multiple episodes of Star Trek
- 9:32Speaker 1: and The The Waltons. He died in a hospital in California. Uh,
- 9:38Speaker 1: they say that he was one hundred percent sharp until
- 9:40Speaker 1: the end. I don't have a cause of death. I
- 9:42Speaker 1: would imagine it's been one hundred and two.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't think you need to cause of
- 9:48Speaker 2: death if you if you go past ninety, no cause
- 9:50Speaker 2: of death.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's it's you've had your run. But yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but uh yes, as Chasmin says, that is a long life.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yes, so his positive death was being born?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no kidding, no kidding, yes, yes, I do
- 10:09Speaker 1: find it funny that says he he produced or directed
- 10:13Speaker 1: six and a half episodes of the original series. I
- 10:16Speaker 1: want to know what's up with that half. I'm sure
- 10:20Speaker 1: I can find out.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Was it a two part episode that he directed the
- 10:24Speaker 3: first half?
- 10:25Speaker 1: Maybe? I don't know. I don't know.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I don't did did Did original series have any two
- 10:30Speaker 2: part episodes?
- 10:33Speaker 1: You're the one watching it right now or I am?
- 10:36Speaker 2: I'm you know? And I can stand watching about one
- 10:40Speaker 2: episode every month and a half, so it's I'm.
- 10:43Speaker 1: He still do the clip show? Maybe like that's it
- 10:46Speaker 1: only counted as half. Many other clips of other people.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Well maybe he co directed an episode.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah maybe maybe. Yeah, so Jasmin says Schattner probably pissed
- 10:59Speaker 1: him off.
- 11:00Speaker 2: M hm.
- 11:02Speaker 1: That that could be so okay, but yeah, that's that's
- 11:06Speaker 1: that story all right. Our next news story.
- 11:08Speaker 3: The Menagerie. The Menagerie was a two part episode.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Oh okay, our next story for we're gonna play this
- 11:17Speaker 1: while we get to since uh, since it's still going on,
- 11:25Speaker 1: but we're still getting some of the fallout from the
- 11:27Speaker 1: Paramount merger. So this new story comes to us from
- 11:33Speaker 1: uh CBR Comic Book Resources and Taylor Sheridan, the the
- 11:40Speaker 1: the wonder Kid behind Yellowstone, is leaving Paramount, and according
- 11:46Speaker 1: to the report by CBR, that might be good news
- 11:48Speaker 1: for Star Trek. So if you don't know, Taylor Sheridan
- 11:52Speaker 1: has produced just a ton of different shows for Paramount,
- 11:56Speaker 1: just hit after hit after hit. He's done basically everything
- 11:59Speaker 1: in in the Yellowstone universe. He's also done like what
- 12:03Speaker 1: is that other show that he did, land Man, and
- 12:10Speaker 1: and the one with Jeremy Renner the.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Mayor of Kingstown.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Kingstown. He's done a lot of your dad's favorite shows.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So so yeah, so he is leaving though, Okay, well,
- 12:28Speaker 1: there you go, there you go. He's he's doing a
- 12:31Speaker 1: lot of these shows. He did Tulsa King, He's produced
- 12:35Speaker 1: that created that. So yeah, you know, so he he
- 12:44Speaker 1: got a better deal from Paramount or from uh Peacock,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and so he's going to be taking his talents there
- 12:51Speaker 1: to South Beach and uh and doing that. It's kind
- 12:56Speaker 1: of surprising that Paramount didn't really try to he them.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Apparently they offered him something, but it wasn't that much better.
- 13:04Speaker 2: What does Paramount have to offer?
- 13:05Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, they They've got a ton of
- 13:08Speaker 1: money right now. The Ellison's have a just basically an
- 13:12Speaker 1: unlimited supply of money. So I mean they spent seven
- 13:17Speaker 1: billion dollars on UFC just because.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Well maybe they're maybe they spent all their money on
- 13:24Speaker 2: Professional rest lated or UFC.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean maybe.
- 13:31Speaker 2: But so he's gone, How could this be good for
- 13:35Speaker 2: Star Trek?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Right? How could this be good for Star Trek? Let's
- 13:37Speaker 1: get to that point. So the idea is, now that
- 13:40Speaker 1: Taylor's gone, the main focus is going to have to
- 13:43Speaker 1: be Star Trek because you don't have the showrunner behind
- 13:46Speaker 1: all these hit shows, so those will pretty much naturally
- 13:49Speaker 1: die on the Vine and uh, and so now you
- 13:52Speaker 1: got to focus on your your main franchises, which is
- 13:55Speaker 1: Star Trek.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I don't know if they'll die on the Vine naturally.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I mean they'll probably die of very long and protracted
- 14:03Speaker 3: death on the ya sety indication. I mean, there's they're
- 14:08Speaker 3: still making the Walking Dead spinoffs as we speak, and uh, you.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Know, right, but Roberts Kirtzman's behind a lot of those,
- 14:16Speaker 1: the brain Trust. So yeah, they're still awful. Oh, I
- 14:21Speaker 1: know nobody watches them, but.
- 14:24Speaker 2: My wife and I stopped watching Walking Dead at a
- 14:27Speaker 2: certain point and then I thought about starting to back up.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Let's start it back up. Let's see this thing to
- 14:31Speaker 2: its conclusion. Because Walking Dead ended and I'm looking and
- 14:35Speaker 2: I'm like, no, it didn't really though, it's just the.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they just spread all the characters out.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's no absolution, there's no ending, there's no
- 14:46Speaker 2: you know, they're just.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Let me ask you out of curiosity, when did you
- 14:49Speaker 3: stop watching?
- 14:52Speaker 2: So we stopped watching. There was two periods that we
- 14:54Speaker 2: stopped watching. We stopped watching and spoiler alert, we stopped
- 14:58Speaker 2: watching after Glenn died.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's everyone stop watching.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Right, And the end of that season the end of that.
- 15:05Speaker 2: We fizzled off at the end of that season, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: then he started watching it again, and once they were
- 15:12Speaker 2: able to kick Naghan out of his home, then we
- 15:15Speaker 2: stopped watching it again. We're like this it was, it wasn't.
- 15:18Speaker 2: And the reason why we stopped watching it is because
- 15:21Speaker 2: the good guys never won. They never got a solid win.
- 15:24Speaker 2: It was just one horrible day after another, and the
- 15:28Speaker 2: show started getting depressed, depressing because they couldn't. There was
- 15:33Speaker 2: no there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And and I don't know about storytelling, but it seems
- 15:38Speaker 2: to me like part of good storytelling is even even
- 15:41Speaker 2: in a show like that, you gotta show him having
- 15:44Speaker 2: a good, good ending every once in a while, like
- 15:49Speaker 2: but they didn't do that in The Walking Dead, so.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You got to give him a reason to live. They're
- 15:53Speaker 1: just at that point.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I told my wife, I'm like, you know, if if
- 15:56Speaker 2: we were in the same exact situation, I would have
- 15:59Speaker 2: eaten a bullet a long time ago. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 2: in the Walking Dead world, that's right, because it's just, yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 2: there's no reason to live.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So but that's the going theory. Anyways, that Taylor sharedan
- 16:16Speaker 1: since he'll be gone the focus on all shifted Star Trek.
- 16:18Speaker 1: What does that mean? We don't know for sure. It's
- 16:20Speaker 1: just a theory at this point, but I thought it
- 16:23Speaker 1: was interesting that we could bring it up. But speaking
- 16:27Speaker 1: of Star Trek, we got a couple other quick little stories.
- 16:31Speaker 1: For those of you who are missing Book David Ayala
- 16:37Speaker 1: Book from a Discovery, have no fear. He is returning
- 16:40Speaker 1: to your TV screens and he will soon be on
- 16:44Speaker 1: Law and Order, so he is set to make his
- 16:46Speaker 1: to be there. Soon. He will be replacing macad Brooks
- 16:52Speaker 1: and he will be the new detective on Law and Order.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So I was like Book as an actor, so that
- 16:58Speaker 1: might be interesting. Don't know if I'll watch it on
- 17:00Speaker 1: order though. Yeah. And then our last news story comes
- 17:06Speaker 1: to us from Cinema Blend. I don't know if you
- 17:10Speaker 1: guys caught it this week, but there was a very
- 17:12Speaker 1: special episode of the new Zachary Quinto show Brilliant Minds
- 17:18Speaker 1: where he got to dress as Spock. So it was
- 17:21Speaker 1: their Holloway saw.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yeah, so that was cute. I just thought that was
- 17:27Speaker 1: fun to mention. So there you go. Zacharundo playing Spock
- 17:29Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. So yeah, there you go, and
- 17:34Speaker 1: that is all the news stories.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Cool.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's sincere.
- 17:44Speaker 2: We're att all. I mean, you know, until until January,
- 17:48Speaker 2: where we can disappoint Dan with start.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Are you talking about it's gonna be the greatest show ever.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Well no, no that's not true. It'll be no Star Trek Scouts,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but it'll be close.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Mean well that legacy show called Star Trek Discovery.
- 18:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But Dan, like I you know, I said this before.
- 18:05Speaker 2: If you're if you're missing, if you're missing Michael Burnham,
- 18:09Speaker 2: she's on the new Boston Boston Blue. So there's a
- 18:14Speaker 2: there's a there's a Blue Blood spin off with.
- 18:17Speaker 1: A noted noted he he's not gonna watch it, but
- 18:22Speaker 1: that's okay, Yeah, all right, or.
- 18:26Speaker 3: If I do, I will, I will watch it despite
- 18:28Speaker 3: her not, because.
- 18:32Speaker 2: That's right. Let should we get out of me. Let's
- 18:36Speaker 2: get have some good news, some awesome stuff.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah all right, let's get to our main topic.
- 18:40Speaker 4: I fin will now come out.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Oh man, our main topic. We are talking about Star
- 18:50Speaker 1: Trek First Contact the movie. This was a film from
- 18:54Speaker 1: nineteen ninety six, directed by Jonathan Freaks, screenplay b Brendan Braga,
- 19:02Speaker 1: Braga and uh Donald, Ronald D. Moore, I cannot talk today.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I've had a long day. The budget for this was
- 19:11Speaker 1: forty five million dollars. Box office was one hundred and
- 19:14Speaker 1: forty six million, so it did make a profit. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: can you assure me.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Yeah, we're trying not to, but I mean we do.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Thanks Dad, I love you too.
- 19:32Speaker 3: So this was a great movie. I have to say
- 19:35Speaker 3: this was one of my favorites. It was one of
- 19:38Speaker 3: my favorites. It had a new new title theme. The
- 19:44Speaker 3: music had a new theme to it, which was carried
- 19:46Speaker 3: over into the next one, Insurrection.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 19:52Speaker 3: It's a very recognizable theme. It was the ambient music
- 19:56Speaker 3: in the background at Star Trek Experience for years. If
- 19:59Speaker 3: you were sitting in if you were sitting in the restaurant,
- 20:01Speaker 3: you would you would hear this song come on. And
- 20:03Speaker 3: to this day, to this day, when I hear that theme,
- 20:07Speaker 3: I think just as much about Star Trek the experience
- 20:10Speaker 3: as I do about this movie. So yeah, I love
- 20:16Speaker 3: this movie. I saw it in the theater. I had
- 20:19Speaker 3: a bootleg VHS version of it that I watched over
- 20:25Speaker 3: and over and over and over until I bought the
- 20:28Speaker 3: the you know, a legit copy of it. This was
- 20:34Speaker 3: during like what I think of as the Golden age,
- 20:38Speaker 3: excuse me, the golden age of modern Star Trek. You
- 20:40Speaker 3: had the TG movies going on, you had d Space
- 20:44Speaker 3: nine going on, Voyager was going on. Merchandising for Star
- 20:48Speaker 3: Trek was, yes, yes, it was at its peak. VHS
- 20:55Speaker 3: and you know, all the movies, all the episodes, they
- 20:58Speaker 3: were all on VHS, and DVD was right around the corner.
- 21:01Speaker 3: So it was only a few years later that people
- 21:03Speaker 3: were buying all the same shit they just bought three
- 21:05Speaker 3: years ago. I mean, merchandising was at its peak, merchandizing, merchandizing, merchandizing.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I have great memories of this movie, the the side
- 21:18Speaker 3: effect of it though. Watching it this morning, yeah, I
- 21:24Speaker 3: ended up playing on my phone through half the movie. Yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 3: because because I've seen it so many times, I don't
- 21:31Speaker 3: need to look at the screen. I can hear the
- 21:34Speaker 3: I could hear the audio track and watch this movie
- 21:37Speaker 3: in my head. And there's very few movies. There's a
- 21:40Speaker 3: few movies that that happens for me that I have
- 21:42Speaker 3: a hard time watching them now just because of how
- 21:44Speaker 3: many times I've watched in the past. This is one
- 21:46Speaker 3: of them. And Batman nineteen eighty nine.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 3: So I try and take I try and take several
- 21:54Speaker 3: years off between rewatching those movies, and I think this
- 22:00Speaker 3: one I didn't wait. I didn't wait quite long enough.
- 22:03Speaker 3: But it doesn't mean I like the movie any less.
- 22:08Speaker 3: It's a great movie. I got plenty of other stuff
- 22:10Speaker 3: to say about it. I got my notes here, but
- 22:12Speaker 3: I'll let you go joke in a little bit.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So the fans and critics agree with you.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It's got a ninety three percent critics rating on Rotten
- 22:19Speaker 1: Tomatoes and an eighty nine percent with the fans. Scott,
- 22:22Speaker 1: what did you think rewatching it? Because I know you've
- 22:25Speaker 1: seen it before.
- 22:26Speaker 2: So yeah, you know, to speak to Dan's point about
- 22:30Speaker 2: you know how often you watch it. We did a
- 22:31Speaker 2: Star Trek movie rewatch our family did about four four
- 22:37Speaker 2: or five years ago, and we got up to generations
- 22:41Speaker 2: and then we stopped, like life happened, and we just
- 22:44Speaker 2: we went on to other things, and then we started
- 22:47Speaker 2: doing the rewatch this time. So I hadn't seen the
- 22:50Speaker 2: movie in all the way through in probably five or
- 22:54Speaker 2: six years, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And my experience
- 22:59Speaker 2: watching the movie this time I'm Usually my wife watches
- 23:02Speaker 2: these the rewatches with me. She didn't this time. She
- 23:06Speaker 2: was off doing her own thing, and so I watched it.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I had some wireless headphones on, so I was, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 2: I was late at night. I was able to you know,
- 23:13Speaker 2: listen to the to the sound. It was great, and
- 23:16Speaker 2: I found myself just just doing the dialogue with the characters,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and I mean word per word at ninety percent of
- 23:25Speaker 2: the movie, you know, and which made me realize, yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 2: I've seen this movie probably all the way through.
- 23:34Speaker 3: So I had the headphones on. I had the wireless
- 23:36Speaker 3: headphones on also, Scott. And the funny thing like I
- 23:41Speaker 3: got up to go to the kitchen to get something
- 23:44Speaker 3: to eat. I didn't plause it. I just left the
- 23:47Speaker 3: headphones on, went to the kitchen, did what I needed
- 23:50Speaker 3: to do, continue to watch the movie in my head
- 23:52Speaker 3: while I'm both then and then came back in.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, Yeah, fun movie and just like the last,
- 24:02Speaker 2: we don't need to go through you know, a synopsis
- 24:04Speaker 2: and seen by seeing everybody's seen this movie one hundred times.
- 24:06Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, it's the border attacking Earth. They time
- 24:11Speaker 1: travel back to to ancient Earth you know or whatever
- 24:16Speaker 1: to stop first contact with the Vulcans in in an
- 24:18Speaker 1: attempt to assimilate the Earth in the past.
- 24:22Speaker 2: So yeah, they traveled back to April fourth, twenty sixty three,
- 24:25Speaker 2: which is famously the day before first contact, which is
- 24:29Speaker 2: where we get our Star Trek Day from, which was
- 24:32Speaker 2: just one the The date was just one of the
- 24:35Speaker 2: It was one of the writers. I think their kid's birthday.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Okay, that was it.
- 24:41Speaker 2: But one of the things I wanted to mention about
- 24:44Speaker 2: this is the the broken little ships, the famous scene
- 24:48Speaker 2: with Lily and Picard in the in the in the
- 24:51Speaker 2: room where he breaks the display case. One of this
- 24:57Speaker 2: ties into I've actually seen those ships, those models, the
- 25:01Speaker 2: Golden models in person. Oh wow. The Henry Ford Museum
- 25:06Speaker 2: in Dearborn over by Detroit. And it when I when
- 25:10Speaker 2: I saw that. I had been listening to trek Cast
- 25:12Speaker 2: for a little while, but this was the first time
- 25:16Speaker 2: that I was compelled to post something on the trek
- 25:19Speaker 2: Cast Facebook book group. And so I said, Hey, I'm
- 25:22Speaker 2: going to the I'm going to the Henry Ford and
- 25:24Speaker 2: they got a Star trek blah blah blah blah, And
- 25:26Speaker 2: Daniel reached out on Facebook and say, help, you know,
- 25:30Speaker 2: post some pictures, and so that's the first time I
- 25:32Speaker 2: actually like really interacted with with Trek cast. I went there.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I took one hundred and fifty pictures. I posted every
- 25:41Speaker 2: single one of them. Everybody seemed to love it. The
- 25:44Speaker 2: the it was a it was like a special, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 2: traveling thing that the Star Trek thing was going. It
- 25:50Speaker 2: was at the Henry Ford Museum. They had a special
- 25:53Speaker 2: exhibit and they had a ton of stuff there. There
- 25:57Speaker 2: was so many, so many props, but the ones that
- 26:00Speaker 2: I specifically remember in my mind's eye was that Golden
- 26:04Speaker 2: Enterprise D that they had to You could you could
- 26:07Speaker 2: see where it was broken and they had glued it
- 26:09Speaker 2: back together, and it was It was a fantastic, fantastic experience.
- 26:14Speaker 1: You cannot forget that golden DU.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I cannot forget the Golden D. I saw you smirking, Daniel. Yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 2: I love that big gold D.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Who doesn't. Who doesn't love a golden D?
- 26:27Speaker 2: But I smashed it.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I smashed the heck out of it.
- 26:35Speaker 2: No, it got broken. I had to glue it back together.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I broke the D.
- 26:45Speaker 1: That'll happened with heavy use, I imagine.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Oh, but this movie had experience.
- 26:56Speaker 3: This movie had quite a few easter eggs and callbacks
- 27:01Speaker 3: to other other Star Trek episodes, other Star Trek shows.
- 27:06Speaker 3: I just jotted a few of them down while I
- 27:08Speaker 3: was watching. But in Picard's office, if you look, draping
- 27:12Speaker 3: over the back of his chair, is the min talking tapestry.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 3: The episode I think the episode was was that the
- 27:25Speaker 3: one with the with the like prehistoric vulcans where they
- 27:28Speaker 3: think he's where.
- 27:29Speaker 2: They're Yeah, Wise shoots him with an arrow.
- 27:36Speaker 3: And uh yeah, So that that tapestry was over the
- 27:40Speaker 3: back of his chair basically for the rest of the
- 27:42Speaker 3: TG run, and you could see it in the background
- 27:46Speaker 3: in Generations. You can see it in the background in
- 27:49Speaker 3: this one, and I think you can see it in
- 27:50Speaker 3: the background in the next one. And Nemesis. I think
- 27:53Speaker 3: Nemesis is the only one where it doesn't it doesn't
- 27:55Speaker 3: show up.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Dah, the fact that you're bringing up tapestry and naming
- 27:59Speaker 1: it warning warning.
- 28:01Speaker 6: Nerd alert, nerd alert.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Was I where my nerd alerts with Pride.
- 28:10Speaker 1: There you go.
- 28:12Speaker 3: So Wharf was in this in this movie. You know
- 28:15Speaker 3: everyone knows at this point in the chronology, Wharf is
- 28:18Speaker 3: serving on Deep Space nine and he is at times
- 28:21Speaker 3: the commander of the Defiant, so it made perfect sense
- 28:24Speaker 3: that the Defiant, the ship designed to fight the Borg,
- 28:27Speaker 3: shows up at this battle. And uh, you know, whil
- 28:32Speaker 3: A Wharf is back with the TMG crew for the
- 28:35Speaker 3: duration of the movie. This is really the only movie
- 28:37Speaker 3: where it makes sense that Wharf shows up again, like
- 28:42Speaker 3: that fun fact. They had planned They had planned to
- 28:46Speaker 3: destroy the Defiant in this movie, and the showrunners at
- 28:50Speaker 3: Deep Space nine were passed. You know that that line
- 28:55Speaker 3: at the end was thrown in where you know, Wharf
- 28:59Speaker 3: asks about the edition of the Defiant and they say
- 29:01Speaker 3: it's a drift, but it's salvageable, which means you will
- 29:03Speaker 3: see you next week.
- 29:05Speaker 5: On the next Steam nine.
- 29:09Speaker 3: So that they Robert Perccardo shows up as not the
- 29:14Speaker 3: e m H. But Ethan Phillips plays the maitre d
- 29:21Speaker 3: at the the restaurant. They yeah, uh, Nurso Gawa is back,
- 29:29Speaker 3: Reginald Barkley is back. A lot of the extras on
- 29:33Speaker 3: the Enterprise crew were the same non speaking extras that
- 29:38Speaker 3: were on the shelf for for seven seasons. And uh,
- 29:43Speaker 3: Cochrane says the words Star Trek, Yes movie it was.
- 29:47Speaker 3: It was pretty cute the way they worked it in
- 29:51Speaker 3: you guys are astronauts and some sort of star trek yep.
- 29:55Speaker 3: So it was great.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I mean he put it in as best he could.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Yeah, So the board were redesigned, the Borg were redesigned
- 30:03Speaker 3: for this movie. Yeah. Prior to this, they just had like,
- 30:09Speaker 3: you know, pasty white faces and a bunch of mechanical
- 30:13Speaker 3: stuff on them. And they they kind of made them
- 30:15Speaker 3: look more made the organic parts look more organic, and
- 30:20Speaker 3: made the mechanical parts look more integrated with their bodies.
- 30:24Speaker 3: And this design stuck around everything. Everything Borg that we
- 30:29Speaker 3: saw on Voyager. They owe it to this movie right down.
- 30:34Speaker 3: So it's the same costumes and sets that they built
- 30:38Speaker 3: for this movement that they used on that show. For
- 30:40Speaker 3: the next I don't know, four years or whatever, that
- 30:43Speaker 3: the Boorg we're doing everything. Yeah. And then while I
- 30:48Speaker 3: was watching this, was just thinking about the Borg and
- 30:52Speaker 3: I was thinking about the Borg ship, and they make
- 30:54Speaker 3: reference of when they start changing the environmental controls on
- 30:57Speaker 3: the Enterprise to make it more like a Boorg ship
- 31:00Speaker 3: and it was it was hot and it was humid.
- 31:04Speaker 3: And then I'm thinking to myself that a you know,
- 31:07Speaker 3: a cybernetic organism. I don't think they shower, and then
- 31:14Speaker 3: I was imagining what must have borg ships smell like?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Awful humid?
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it must almost be so bad. It must it
- 31:27Speaker 2: must smell like an army bear after at test. It
- 31:30Speaker 2: must be so dank and rank Yep.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Chad, tell us what you think of boring cube
- 31:36Speaker 1: smells like?
- 31:39Speaker 2: I want to see the different descriptions.
- 31:42Speaker 3: And sometimes I walk in, I walk into the karate
- 31:44Speaker 3: school when there's already been class in session for.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Like an hour and a half, and it's hot air.
- 31:50Speaker 3: And I walk in, and I, you know, I have
- 31:51Speaker 3: a thing that I say smells like karate in here,
- 31:55Speaker 3: And I imagine that I imagine that that a borg
- 31:59Speaker 3: cube smells like karate.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Oh man, one hundred and two degrees thirty thirty nine
- 32:05Speaker 2: point one degrees celsius is one hundred and two degrees. Yeah,
- 32:11Speaker 2: thank you, that's warm.
- 32:14Speaker 1: That's desert. Makes a good point, he says, computers like
- 32:18Speaker 1: cool and dry, though you'd think they'd want to be that.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Well. You also you also have to figure that the
- 32:27Speaker 3: borg are made up of how many different species?
- 32:30Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:31Speaker 3: So there are probably different species that operate in higher temperatures,
- 32:36Speaker 3: some that have lower temperatures, some high humidity, some low humidity,
- 32:40Speaker 3: so this is probably the median humidity, not for and
- 32:44Speaker 3: you gotta remember these are these are machines making constant calculations.
- 32:47Speaker 3: They probably the collective probably determined. Okay, there's there's twenty
- 32:52Speaker 3: five borg currently on this ship. They are from these species,
- 32:56Speaker 3: and this is the mean temperature and the mean humidity
- 32:59Speaker 3: for optimum operation in this environment. And as they assimilate
- 33:04Speaker 3: more people, those numbers probably probably shift.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, well we mentioned the hygiene. I
- 33:13Speaker 2: think it has My my theory is that you operate
- 33:16Speaker 2: one hundred and two, it kills all the nasty uh
- 33:20Speaker 2: you know, non nandite little things and you know, the
- 33:25Speaker 2: germs and stuff like that. I think the high temperature
- 33:27Speaker 2: is to keep is a sanitation thing.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Yeah. I would think that they have nanoprobes that are
- 33:32Speaker 3: eating the bacteria as it. Uh.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they probably cured cancer a long time ago. We
- 33:41Speaker 2: got this, Yeah, Okay, they don't even think about it.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like, we cured kids, and we can handle
- 33:47Speaker 3: body ownder this.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Like if the borg like ever like decided to you know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: play nice with the federation, you know, and they just
- 33:54Speaker 2: got together and just you know, started, you know, hanging out.
- 33:57Speaker 2: They'd be like, what is this cancer thing that would
- 33:59Speaker 2: would your friend died of?
- 34:00Speaker 3: What?
- 34:01Speaker 2: It's like, Oh yeah, we took care of that hundreds
- 34:03Speaker 2: of years ago. It's a real simple mechanical thing that
- 34:06Speaker 2: we do. Mm hmm oh, I you know you mentioned,
- 34:12Speaker 2: uh Wharf. I had to say one of my favorite
- 34:14Speaker 2: Easter egg in in this is and I didn't realize
- 34:19Speaker 2: it until I was until like the early two thousands,
- 34:22Speaker 2: mid two thousands, when the first time we see Wharf
- 34:26Speaker 2: when he's picking himself back up off the deck, they
- 34:30Speaker 2: played the Klingon music. Yes, yeah, and I heard it,
- 34:36Speaker 2: but I I didn't realize it until years and years later.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I was I was watching like Star Trek three, and
- 34:44Speaker 2: then I heard that music come out. I'm like, wait
- 34:46Speaker 2: a minute, that's the that's the Defiant theme. No, that's
- 34:49Speaker 2: not the Defiant theme, that's the Klingon theme. That was
- 34:52Speaker 2: That was great. And did you know that the Defiant
- 34:55Speaker 2: helmsman was Adam Scott.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, yeah, he's a few times. Yeah, yeah, that's great.
- 35:05Speaker 2: He's so.
- 35:09Speaker 1: But yeah, no, it's it's a great movie. I had
- 35:12Speaker 1: trouble coming up with what I would do with it.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I did come up with something though, Oh boy, oh,
- 35:22Speaker 1: if you guys want to hear this, I want to
- 35:24Speaker 1: hear it.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Okay, this is like my favorite part.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So I would not call it for his contact. I
- 35:30Speaker 1: would still have the Borg, but I would call it
- 35:33Speaker 1: Star Trek Art of War, and I would start with
- 35:37Speaker 1: a holidack. Wharf is showing off his new training program.
- 35:43Speaker 1: He is there just to show off a new training program.
- 35:46Speaker 1: That's why he's on the enterprise. It's not that anything
- 35:49Speaker 1: has been going on. The training program has got all
- 35:51Speaker 1: sorts of cool adversaries within it. It's got like a
- 35:57Speaker 1: I would have like a like a like a biker
- 36:00Speaker 1: looking nauseaken with like metal spikes on his shoulders and whatever.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I would have a Samurai klingon just whatever cool idea
- 36:10Speaker 1: you can come up with that concept. Art will We'll
- 36:13Speaker 1: put him in there and have it looked that way.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And so they're testing the battle techniques.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Uh.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Picard is watching over it with warf like, oh yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 1: this is a great training simulator, like it's good. And
- 36:25Speaker 1: then as the simulation's going after different crew members are
- 36:28Speaker 1: are trying the combat training, some of the characters turn
- 36:33Speaker 1: and look at Picard and they're like, Licutas were coming,
- 36:38Speaker 1: Locutus were coming after you. We're gonna find you, Locutas.
- 36:42Speaker 1: And he's like cute, who And then he slowly starts
- 36:45Speaker 1: to realizing, oh my god, the border talking to me
- 36:48Speaker 1: through the simulation. They've somehow hacked. And so he's he's
- 36:52Speaker 1: trying to call for the Arch. The Arch isn't coming.
- 36:55Speaker 1: He's trying to break into the wall to figure out
- 36:58Speaker 1: what's going on. He's like, they're they're gonna try to
- 37:00Speaker 1: take over the Enterprise. They're clearly in the system communicating
- 37:02Speaker 1: with us, and Wharf's like, who are you? What are
- 37:05Speaker 1: you talking about? The simulation's running perfectly, like what do
- 37:07Speaker 1: you There's nothing going on, and they keep saying we're coming,
- 37:10Speaker 1: the cutest we're coming. And then so finally the card
- 37:15Speaker 1: ends up ripping out the I don't know, the matrix
- 37:17Speaker 1: of the hologram or whatever breaks the breaks the holidack
- 37:21Speaker 1: and uh. And he looks like a crazy person, right
- 37:23Speaker 1: because nobody saw anything other than him. And so he's
- 37:27Speaker 1: talking to Starfleet and he's like, hey, Starfleet, like they
- 37:30Speaker 1: they got into the Enterprise somehow. I'm having our people
- 37:33Speaker 1: trace the signal trying to figure out where it came from.
- 37:36Speaker 1: But they're coming. We need to be ready, and Starfleet
- 37:40Speaker 1: it's like we're fighting the dominion right now. There's no
- 37:43Speaker 1: evidence of this signal. Yes it would be bad at
- 37:46Speaker 1: the Borg attack us right now, but there's no evidence
- 37:49Speaker 1: behind this. Are you okay? Like something's off about you?
- 37:56Speaker 1: So then he goes talk to Counselor Troy because star
- 38:00Speaker 1: our Fleet's like, we want the counselor to do an
- 38:02Speaker 1: evaluation on you because something's off. Yeah, because you're you've
- 38:08Speaker 1: you've done lost it and uh. And so they have
- 38:11Speaker 1: a conversation and and he basically admits that you know,
- 38:16Speaker 1: he yeah, he doesn't like the Borg, but you know,
- 38:20Speaker 1: they're there and people think he's crazy. And she's like,
- 38:23Speaker 1: I think you believe that, but I there's no evidence,
- 38:26Speaker 1: Like there's there's nothing. And so then like Riker goes
- 38:30Speaker 1: to her and Riker's like, so what do you think?
- 38:33Speaker 1: And right She's like, you needed to take command of
- 38:35Speaker 1: the ship because I'm declaring him mentally unfit right now
- 38:38Speaker 1: because he he can't handle it. And so Riker takes
- 38:43Speaker 1: over and Riker's like, look, I'm sorry, but this is
- 38:46Speaker 1: what we have to do. We're in wartime, like we
- 38:48Speaker 1: have to be ready to go, and and you're you're
- 38:51Speaker 1: losing it. And Picard starts questioning himself and every now
- 38:55Speaker 1: and then the borg will pop up in his head
- 38:57Speaker 1: and they're like, hey, we're we're coming, We're after you,
- 38:59Speaker 1: that kind of thing, right. And then so during the
- 39:05Speaker 1: during the training program also they were testing out these
- 39:08Speaker 1: new weapons that they have. I'm gonna call them the
- 39:11Speaker 1: strategic armored weapons or whatever I once saw to be
- 39:16Speaker 1: the the the thing, and uh, and these weapons are
- 39:22Speaker 1: based off the brain tech from the from the Dominion War, right,
- 39:25Speaker 1: the brain tech they would they would depower a ship, right,
- 39:29Speaker 1: so these weapons could depower a drone. And the idea
- 39:33Speaker 1: was they didn't have the ability to then, uh remodulate
- 39:38Speaker 1: the signal and you know, prevent being you know, like
- 39:40Speaker 1: you couldn't shoot unlimited like they always adjust, right, But
- 39:44Speaker 1: because the drones would be depowered like that, you could
- 39:49Speaker 1: just keep shooting drone after drone after drowning and keep fighting.
- 39:51Speaker 1: So that's that's why these weapons were so good for
- 39:55Speaker 1: fighting the board. And so the card makes the idea
- 40:01Speaker 1: that oh my god, that's what they want. They want
- 40:03Speaker 1: these weapons they want to to take them because they
- 40:06Speaker 1: don't want us to have the strategic advantage. They know
- 40:09Speaker 1: that we have the prototype weapons here in the Enterprise.
- 40:11Speaker 1: That's why they're after us. And and Riker's like, yeah,
- 40:14Speaker 1: that makes sense, but what do we do because we
- 40:16Speaker 1: can't we can't just like go hide and we need
- 40:20Speaker 1: these weapons. Like what do we do? And so uh,
- 40:26Speaker 1: Picard goes, well, they want us to go to these
- 40:30Speaker 1: special like location. He thinks that that's where they're waiting,
- 40:35Speaker 1: like that's where the signals coming from. He thinks that
- 40:38Speaker 1: if we go attack them there with the weapons, we
- 40:41Speaker 1: can stop them before they really get going in the
- 40:43Speaker 1: Alpha Quadron. So Riker decides, Okay, I'm gonna trust you.
- 40:48Speaker 1: You know you're a captain, but I will trust you
- 40:50Speaker 1: and let's go. And so they get there and there's
- 40:53Speaker 1: no Borg. There's like this just like giant portal. And
- 40:58Speaker 1: they figure out that it is a Transworp conduit right
- 41:02Speaker 1: because it'll be the first time we see that. And
- 41:05Speaker 1: with that system, they can then take over the Alpha
- 41:08Speaker 1: Quadrant because they can appear wherever right faster than warp.
- 41:13Speaker 1: So they decide to go into the transport conduit. They
- 41:16Speaker 1: get there, they're now in a completely different you know,
- 41:20Speaker 1: we've heard the Gamma quadrant, we've heard of the Beta quadrant.
- 41:23Speaker 1: We'll give a whole nother one, the the Omego quadrant,
- 41:27Speaker 1: like just completely out of nowhere, right, and it's the
- 41:31Speaker 1: Enterprise alone, and there's multiple word cubes there. It is
- 41:35Speaker 1: the Borg Hive like it is. It is the dead
- 41:39Speaker 1: center of it. And they quickly just take the Enterprise,
- 41:45Speaker 1: and so a Bicard realizes He's like, oh my god,
- 41:52Speaker 1: they're going to take the weapons. We're going to get assimilated.
- 41:55Speaker 1: We're right in the center of all this. We're going
- 41:57Speaker 1: to get killed. And then and he's talking to we're
- 42:01Speaker 1: gonna introduce the Borg Emperor, so no longer the queen.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Like the queens are are like the lieutenants, but at
- 42:08Speaker 1: the top is the emperor, right, and the Emperor is like, hey, uh,
- 42:15Speaker 1: we're gonna we don't want your weapons. We don't give
- 42:18Speaker 1: a shit about your weapons. We've had breams in the
- 42:21Speaker 1: collective for a while. We know about these weapons. And
- 42:24Speaker 1: then the guards like, well, what did you want? What
- 42:26Speaker 1: what is it that you wanted. He's like, what we want?
- 42:29Speaker 1: The reason we wanted you Locutus is because you're a
- 42:32Speaker 1: good tactician and you run on your instinct, and that's
- 42:35Speaker 1: why we put you in the hive originally, is because
- 42:39Speaker 1: we needed your battle instinct in fights, and that's why
- 42:42Speaker 1: you were such a deadly Borg. And so it becomes
- 42:45Speaker 1: like a chess match between him and the Emperor on
- 42:48Speaker 1: on saving his crew and saving the Enterprise. So ultimately
- 42:54Speaker 1: it ends up that the whole problem with what the
- 42:57Speaker 1: whole reason that the Borg wanted him and his instinct,
- 43:01Speaker 1: but the reason it never worked is that the Borg
- 43:05Speaker 1: operates on one in Zero's right binary everything is this
- 43:08Speaker 1: or that, whereas human instinct doesn't operate like that, right,
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's all based off of experience and knowledge and just
- 43:16Speaker 1: gut feeling. And that's why the instinct never worked for
- 43:19Speaker 1: the Borg, and that was their downfall. So that would
- 43:23Speaker 1: be kind of it. Okay, I haven't like fully fleshed
- 43:26Speaker 1: it all out clearly, but I have at stick story.
- 43:30Speaker 2: I'd love to, Yeah, And I'm telling you, in a
- 43:36Speaker 2: couple of years, we're gonna have Ai flesh these all
- 43:39Speaker 2: all your all of Daniel's stories out, That's right. I
- 43:41Speaker 2: want to I want to see, Yeah, I want to seek.
- 43:44Speaker 3: The Daniel files.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and it's coming. You know, we've talked about
- 43:51Speaker 2: the show.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I mean it's yeah, it's it's around the corner for real.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Yeah. So, I I think I said a couple of
- 43:59Speaker 3: different times. I love this movie, but I'm still mere.
- 44:04Speaker 3: So here's my list of nitpicks.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Go for it, go for it.
- 44:08Speaker 2: I've got one too, all right.
- 44:10Speaker 3: U Picard shouldn't face the Borg is what Starfleet thought
- 44:15Speaker 3: at the beginning. Yeah, despite the fact that he had
- 44:18Speaker 3: faced them several times already. Uh yeah, tail end of TNG.
- 44:22Speaker 3: But that's fine. We understand. They needed him to not
- 44:26Speaker 3: be at the fight so that he could arrive at
- 44:27Speaker 3: the fight. I get it. Picard and Lily defeat to
- 44:35Speaker 3: Borg by luring them into the Holo deck and disengaging
- 44:39Speaker 3: the safeties so that they can use projectile weapons to uh,
- 44:44Speaker 3: to take them out.
- 44:46Speaker 2: If my logic, it's right here.
- 44:51Speaker 3: You ready for it? Yeah, you ready for it. Ten
- 44:56Speaker 3: minutes earlier, Data took her about twenty round of automatic
- 45:00Speaker 3: weapons fire and barely flinched mm hm so right in
- 45:07Speaker 3: the chest and then and looked down at his at
- 45:09Speaker 3: his at his messed up shirt and said, greetings. Yes,
- 45:15Speaker 3: that didn't quite add up to me. I mean, I
- 45:17Speaker 3: think the borger or more sophisticated or a more sophisticated
- 45:21Speaker 3: machine than Data is. But this is my nitpick.
- 45:28Speaker 2: I I don't real quick to interject my nitpick on
- 45:31Speaker 2: that scene was not the Borg part, what was the
- 45:34Speaker 2: Data part? Because Data got shot with an arrow once
- 45:38Speaker 2: and by counselor Troy, and he's like, oh, it just
- 45:42Speaker 2: barely missed the servo mechanism, so you're a good counselor.
- 45:45Speaker 2: But he gets he gets shot by this you know,
- 45:49Speaker 2: automatic weapon and apparently he was fine, even though an
- 45:52Speaker 2: arrow could have damaged him. Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Continue, So after the warp flight and they turn the
- 46:00Speaker 3: ship around and they face it towards Earth. Cochrane says,
- 46:04Speaker 3: is that Earth? It looks so small? And Riiker says,
- 46:10Speaker 3: it's about to get a whole lot bigger, And that
- 46:13Speaker 3: always struck me as being backwards. It's about to get
- 46:17Speaker 3: a whole lot smaller because you're about to meet a
- 46:22Speaker 3: life forms. We're going to clue you into the fact
- 46:26Speaker 3: that you are a part of this intergalactic community. Now
- 46:29Speaker 3: there are all of these other races out there, and
- 46:32Speaker 3: Earth just got a whole lot smaller. So that line
- 46:35Speaker 3: always bothered me a little bit.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Wood a much better line.
- 46:41Speaker 3: My You know, my head canon is that they warped.
- 46:44Speaker 3: They warped that way, and now they need to warp back,
- 46:47Speaker 3: so it's going to get bigger on the on the
- 46:49Speaker 3: ride back. That's the way I justified in my head cannon.
- 46:52Speaker 3: But I really wish it was the other way around.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Things I never noticed before, not that I never noticed them,
- 47:00Speaker 3: but I never like put two and two together. Jeordie's
- 47:02Speaker 3: wearing sunglasses down on the planet. Yeah, not that it's
- 47:06Speaker 3: too sunny, it's that he's got mechanical eyeballs that he
- 47:09Speaker 3: doesn't want people looking at these people from the past.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I don't know how I never picked up on that
- 47:15Speaker 3: since nineteen ninety six to now. And I just got
- 47:19Speaker 3: a few pieces of trivia that I that I looked
- 47:22Speaker 3: up that I'll share it. This one, I was surprised
- 47:26Speaker 3: to read Tom Hanks was supposed to play Exept from Concord.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I knew that. Yeah, Yeah, that would.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Have been crazy.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:38Speaker 3: I sometimes I think I wonder if the how would
- 47:44Speaker 3: that have affected the budget, Like would they have been
- 47:47Speaker 3: would it have been as good a movie? Would they
- 47:49Speaker 3: have had as much money to spend on the movie
- 47:53Speaker 3: or would they have done blocks of funding from the
- 47:55Speaker 3: studio because they would recognize this is not only a
- 47:58Speaker 3: Star Trek movie, this is now Tom Hanks movie, so
- 48:01Speaker 3: we can expect that faction of people to come see it.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Also, Tom Hanks is a Star Trek fan giant. Yeah, yeah,
- 48:11Speaker 2: you know, but he was. He was doing the he
- 48:14Speaker 2: was right in the middle of the hit directing his
- 48:16Speaker 2: starring in That Thing You Do, so he couldn't. Yeah,
- 48:22Speaker 2: everybody knows That Thing You Do because we all have
- 48:24Speaker 2: the DVD.
- 48:25Speaker 1: That's right. I watch it every Sunday.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Yeah, good song.
- 48:32Speaker 3: I still love.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's catchy. It's a catchy little little ditty.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Don Stark played Nikki the Nose. Do you know who
- 48:41Speaker 3: Don Stark is? No, he played Bob Pinciotti on that
- 48:49Speaker 3: seventies show, Oh Donna's Dad.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Why you look familiar? Okay, I was, I was focused.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I watched last night. I also watched the commentary there.
- 49:05Speaker 2: The DVD's got three different commentaries audio and I watched
- 49:09Speaker 2: the one with Jonathan Frakes and it was so much
- 49:11Speaker 2: fun to watch. And he was pointing out that the
- 49:14Speaker 2: guy next to Nicky the knows that he's like that.
- 49:17Speaker 2: The card is like frisky to find a weapon, the
- 49:19Speaker 2: one say hey, I'm taking that personal. That was a
- 49:21Speaker 2: stunt stunt coordinator.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 3: So Jack Shearer appears as Admiral Hayes, and he later
- 49:32Speaker 3: reprised that role in two episodes of Voyager, which is
- 49:36Speaker 3: interesting because his ship was destroyed in this way. So
- 49:40Speaker 3: I guess, I guess he didn't go in with the ship.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I guess he made it to an escape pod. I
- 49:46Speaker 3: don't know. And this one's interesting. I you know, I
- 49:52Speaker 3: saw this, I paused it, and then I looked it up.
- 49:57Speaker 3: At the end, when the Vulcan ship lands, Riker is
- 50:00Speaker 3: talking to Cochrane telling him, you know, hey, they're gonna
- 50:04Speaker 3: want to talk to you, and he's standing right next
- 50:07Speaker 3: to him, and Freaks is clearly looking up at at Cromwell,
- 50:16Speaker 3: James Cromwell, and I know that Franks is not a
- 50:18Speaker 3: short dude, So I looked it up and Frank's is
- 50:22Speaker 3: six three, so he's a tall guy. Uh, Cromwell is
- 50:27Speaker 3: six feet seven inches tall.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Good lord, he is dude, right, Oh my god.
- 50:36Speaker 3: And upon looking that up, I got this little nugget
- 50:39Speaker 3: that he is the tallest actor ever nominated for an
- 50:42Speaker 3: Academy Award.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Wow.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a tall dude.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Go back and now the next the next time you
- 50:53Speaker 3: watch this movie, that part's gonna come up and you're
- 50:55Speaker 3: gonna be looking. You're gonna and you're gonna see Riker
- 50:57Speaker 3: like this. Hey, they're gonna want to talk to you,
- 50:59Speaker 3: and you're gonna back to this moment.
- 51:02Speaker 6: Crazy six seven damn Yeah, he's huge.
- 51:09Speaker 3: Wow. Oh my god, I didn't even I didn't. I
- 51:11Speaker 3: didn't even catch it. You know how tall he is?
- 51:14Speaker 3: Six seven six nonsense.
- 51:23Speaker 1: I finally made the show. That's all I got.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I got one small, I got a knit.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 51:34Speaker 2: The borg Sphere Uh you know it goes back in
- 51:38Speaker 2: time and starts immediately firing on uh Montana, right, okay,
- 51:45Speaker 2: I mean, and it gets off, It gets off a
- 51:48Speaker 2: lot of shots. I mean, we can we can see
- 51:51Speaker 2: from from what we can hear and see, and you know,
- 51:55Speaker 2: it's the green. It's the typical alien green, you know,
- 51:58Speaker 2: barrage boom boo boom. You know, it's just Jews. And
- 52:04Speaker 2: I kept thinking, I'm looking at I'm looking at it.
- 52:07Speaker 2: You know, it's it's Borg it's twenty twenty fourth century,
- 52:11Speaker 2: and I'm like, my truck unit in the army, given
- 52:17Speaker 2: the same amount of time, could have done as much
- 52:21Speaker 2: or more damage to that village than the Borg cube
- 52:25Speaker 2: or the borgear did. What what were they firing at them?
- 52:30Speaker 2: Like harsh language? It just I mean, yeah, some buildings
- 52:32Speaker 2: blew up and and things. But you would think that
- 52:37Speaker 2: that that time period, that species, that technology would have
- 52:42Speaker 2: been able to decimate estimate, Yeah, that entire area. You
- 52:47Speaker 2: would think that one photon torpedo would level the entire town.
- 52:52Speaker 2: You would borg shooting at it.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Yeah, So I went, I went out of order. I
- 52:57Speaker 3: went out of order on my nitpicks, and I skipped
- 53:00Speaker 3: right over this one. Very similar to what you're saying
- 53:04Speaker 3: I have on here. Bord could have traveled back in
- 53:07Speaker 3: time first and then travel through space to Earth instead
- 53:11Speaker 3: of vice versa. Yep, that they traveled to Earth and
- 53:15Speaker 3: then went back in time, but back in time where
- 53:17Speaker 3: you are and then travel to Earth.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Or have the imagination for.
- 53:22Speaker 3: Why do why even go to Earth? You know, you
- 53:24Speaker 3: know what you're stopping this first contact with this vulcan
- 53:27Speaker 3: craft intercept the craft, intercept the craft, assimilate that send
- 53:32Speaker 3: that down to Earth, and it's a whole different first contact.
- 53:37Speaker 3: That handshake would go a lot different when the when
- 53:39Speaker 3: the mules come out, and now you got you know,
- 53:43Speaker 3: you got a six foot seven inch tall Bord running
- 53:46Speaker 3: around Montana assimilating people.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Can you imagine he like, he gets assimilated, but he's
- 53:53Speaker 2: still got a ton of alcohol in his system.
- 53:56Speaker 3: He's just falling all over the place.
- 53:57Speaker 1: He's of the three of us, I'm probably the only
- 54:04Speaker 1: one that's been to Montana, So I totally get just
- 54:07Speaker 1: raid shooting on it immediately.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Oh goodness, yeah, such a great movie.
- 54:20Speaker 3: It Oh, we didn't even we didn't even bring it up.
- 54:26Speaker 3: They you know, after the Star Trek generation's wardrobe debacle
- 54:31Speaker 3: h than movie before, they completely redesigned the uniform and uh,
- 54:37Speaker 3: I don't think we've had a better looking uniform since.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I really don't don't think. I did like the Discovery uniforms,
- 54:46Speaker 1: not the show, but the uniforms are pretty cool.
- 54:49Speaker 2: They had a couple of different uniforms throughout its run.
- 54:51Speaker 1: Yeah whatever, but they are they are great uniforms. When
- 54:55Speaker 1: I think of Star Trek uniforms, those are the ones
- 54:57Speaker 1: I think of that the D nine one, this is that.
- 55:00Speaker 2: The Yeah, I also have to mention Literally and Picard
- 55:06Speaker 2: what uh an unlikely and fantastic duo. They had some
- 55:11Speaker 2: great chemistry together, that scene in the ready room, in
- 55:16Speaker 2: the observation lounge, that famous scene, you know they invade
- 55:20Speaker 2: our space and we fall back. Alfred Woodard is one
- 55:26Speaker 2: of my favorite actresses. She's great. Yeah, and she just
- 55:31Speaker 2: her acting in this was so good. It was so good.
- 55:36Speaker 2: And her and Jonathan Frakes are really good friends. They've
- 55:38Speaker 2: been friends for years in real life prior to this.
- 55:42Speaker 2: And but yeah, Herd Picard just had some great, some
- 55:46Speaker 2: great chemistry together. It was I just I just love
- 55:50Speaker 2: their interaction, you know, the.
- 55:51Speaker 3: One one line I always appreciated, you know, when she
- 55:56Speaker 3: compares him to Captain a Hap and and and then
- 56:00Speaker 3: later on in the scene she admits to him that
- 56:03Speaker 3: she actually never read the book. Yeah, yeah, and what
- 56:06Speaker 3: I but what I appreciate about that In Stars and
- 56:09Speaker 3: they did it. They did it twice in this movie.
- 56:13Speaker 3: In Star Trek. It always they always paint this picture
- 56:17Speaker 3: that everyone knows about every piece of literature from Earth's past,
- 56:23Speaker 3: like they've all just sat around reading Shakespeare and you
- 56:27Speaker 3: know all of this stuff. So you know, there's that
- 56:31Speaker 3: where you know, she's she's from our future, and yeah,
- 56:34Speaker 3: I know what Mobe Dick is, but I've actually never
- 56:36Speaker 3: read it, which is most of the people on the
- 56:39Speaker 3: planet right now, you're aware of it. You're aware of it,
- 56:42Speaker 3: you know the basic premise of it, but you've never
- 56:44Speaker 3: you've never actually read the book. So there was that,
- 56:47Speaker 3: And there was something similar when when Picard is rage
- 56:52Speaker 3: blasting his opera music in the ready room and Ryker
- 56:57Speaker 3: walks in and you know, I identify the song and
- 57:02Speaker 3: and Picard corrects him, No, it's actually such and such
- 57:05Speaker 3: or whatever. Okay, you know. So yeah, so not everybody
- 57:12Speaker 3: knows everything about about culture.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Yeah, not everybody graduated from Cambridge University. Yeah yeah, exactly,
- 57:21Speaker 2: just like reality. Yeah yeah, but yeah, like I said,
- 57:25Speaker 2: I listened to the commentary Jonathan Frakes. There's there's three commentaries.
- 57:32Speaker 2: He did one, some producers did one and some I
- 57:35Speaker 2: think one of the writers did one. But the one
- 57:38Speaker 2: that Jonathan Frakes does he obviously loved this movie. Uh,
- 57:41Speaker 2: he had a good time. Yeah, you know, I I
- 57:45Speaker 2: I remember when I had a conversation with Jonathan Fakes
- 57:49Speaker 2: one time when I met him at the as you
- 57:53Speaker 2: do at the Indianapolis Comic Con.
- 57:55Speaker 3: Were you looking up at him?
- 57:58Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a he's an all imposing dude, but uh,
- 58:03Speaker 2: you know. And and I the first thing he said,
- 58:06Speaker 2: and that's how I got my nickname was he said,
- 58:08Speaker 2: that's a strong beard. And when Jonathan Frank says you
- 58:13Speaker 2: have a strong beard, that I think that means something.
- 58:16Speaker 2: And I told him, I said, you know Star Treks and.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Scott said, Scott said, you should see me mount a chair.
- 58:21Speaker 2: That's yeah, I could. I could. I could write her
- 58:24Speaker 2: maneuver with the best of them. And I, uh, I said.
- 58:28Speaker 1: How's your how's your how's your back?
- 58:29Speaker 6: After dropping that name, Oh you know, I mean, yeah,
- 58:38Speaker 6: exactly blue eyes, I.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Said to him, I said, you know, I Star Trek
- 58:43Speaker 2: First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie. I loved
- 58:48Speaker 2: what you did with it. And even my wife chimed
- 58:50Speaker 2: in and she's like, yeah, he says that all the time.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Star Trek is his favorite movie, and you're his favorite
- 58:53Speaker 2: Star Trek director. And I said, you know, if they
- 58:56Speaker 2: had allowed you to direct Star Trek Insurrection or Star
- 59:03Speaker 2: Trek Nemesis instead of that guy that they had directed,
- 59:09Speaker 2: they'd be you'd be directing Star Trek twenty three right now.
- 59:13Speaker 2: And he looked at me and he's like, from your
- 59:14Speaker 2: mouth to God's ears, that's exactly what he said. And
- 59:18Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, yeah, because you know, the douchebag
- 59:23Speaker 2: that directed Star Trek Nemesis Bird or whatever the hell
- 59:30Speaker 2: his name is, destroyed the franchise, the Next Gen movie
- 59:35Speaker 2: franchise because he knew nothing about Star Trek. And and
- 59:40Speaker 2: that's one of the things that Franks was talking about
- 59:42Speaker 2: in the commentary is you know, he understood that he wasn't,
- 59:46Speaker 2: you know, a big name director. They were hoping to
- 59:48Speaker 2: get somebody like Ridley Scott or you know, somebody an
- 59:51Speaker 2: action director, but they also knew that these guys knew
- 59:54Speaker 2: nothing about Star Trek, and so they approached Franks and said,
- 59:57Speaker 2: you know, you've directed a lot of Next Gen Deep
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Space nine Voyager, you know, will you direct this? And
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: He's like, absolutely, he wanted it. He wanted it bad.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: And yeah, I just think that he's you know, I've
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: said it before, I'm a huge Jonathan Fraakes fan. I
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: think that he should be part of, uh the franchise
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: moving forward. I think he should help shape it and
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: guide it. And that's that's my two cents.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: So nice. Yeah, well we've already got jazz is waiting,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: so we should get to listener feedback. So let's do that.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Let me do it.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Listener feedback.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: So uh yeah, so real quick, if you guys want
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: to get into listener feedback, we are on all the
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: social media channels, so you can send us messages there.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: We also have got a voicemail on line that you
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: can leave us a message at. It's five seven zero
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: sixty six to one zero zero zero one. That's five
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: seven zero six one zero zero zero one. And yeah,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: we'd love to have your voicemails. I did ask in
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: our Facebook group if what you know that we I
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: told him that we were going to review for his Contact.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: I wanted people's thoughts and their favorite scenes. Craig said
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: that his favorite was the assimilate This from moreh uh.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: One said this is just a great movie, loved it all,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: and Gabe said there are so many great parts in
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: First Contact. Mike Medina wanted to know what is the
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: deal with Lieutenant Hawk. I'm not sure what the deal
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: he means other than he got assimilated.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: Yeah, that's Neil McDonough yeah, yeah, very well, yes, so,
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: but yeah, we got Chasmis, so let's bring him on
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: there is you.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Know that brings up another knit. Several of the borg
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: uh were were phasered off into space.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: War takes his phaser rifle after he says Captain, they've adapted.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: He takes his phaser rifle and doesn't set it back
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: on the deck with its mag because they show that
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: if the card shows that it will magnetically, it's got
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: a magu He just takes it and throws it. And
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: I'm thinking, where did what happened to that? Did they?
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: What did hello?
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: I guess I imagine before they before they head back
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: to the future, they kind of they kind of zip
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: around the solar system being up, beaming up all the
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: crap that they left lying around that shouldn't be there.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: Yeah, what about the remember, oh, I've got one more
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: I've got I've got one more knit. Uh the deflector dish.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: He says, don't shoot the deflector. This charge of the
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: anti prioritize. That'll straight off the ship. Boy, I hope
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: the Romulans don't get wind of this information. And and
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: also how did my last knit? And then I'll shut up.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: How did Riker, Jordie and Cochrane get back to Earth?
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because they were using it looked like they were
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: using Apollo type technology or you know, well that's a
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: splashdown situation, right.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: Are there any Are there any big lakes near Bozeman, Montana?
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: I have landed like Elon's rocket, So.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And then.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: They drove a truck for something I don't know, I.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Think because and maybe Elon West was alive, he'd be
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: like a hundred.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: So yeah, he'd be robo Elon by then, so probably
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: be a brain and a jar and a.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Oh god, one of those heads like in Futurama, just
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: the head.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Yes, did you rewatch the movie chats Bis?
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: I didn't rewatch it, but I saw in the theater
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: a couple of years ago. It was the first time
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: I ever seen it in the theaters, so.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: And and that's the thing about watching something in the theater,
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: because like Dan was saying earlier that he can just
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: listen to it and not watch it. But when you're
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: in the theater, you don't use your phone. You're one
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: hundred percent invested in the movie.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: So that's right.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: That's right, and and it's awesome to see it in
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: the theater because until you release the well, you kind
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: of like, because you're such a big screen, you're usually
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: not like looking at other parts. You're just like sometimes
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: look for mistakes. You're looking for other things, and you
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: know time you pick up different dialogue too, So.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it demands your attention.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: I think the weakest part of this movie is the
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: Earth parts.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: M I think that's part a true you primus saying
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I thought it was on time and said eight am.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: I got here for listening feedback. I think the time
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: has changed, got you, buddy, Yeah, I think that's that's
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: what happened.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: Hey, it was nice having the sextra hour though.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I was like, oh yeah, man, I used.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: To wat ten am.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: It's kind of nice.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Actually, well, are you the kind of person where the
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: time change is going to affect you for the next
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: month and a half or y just crush it off. Yeah,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: I've already forgotten about the time change.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I'll be back to normal by tomorrow.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: I'm looking at the clock. It says eleven o'clock. It
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: feels like eleven o'clock.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Except when the light goes down at like five thirty.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: That's well, there's that.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I work third shift, so you know, I'm not used
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: to that. Every once in a while in the summertime,
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I see that giant glowing orange orb.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: So I'm like, light the light. I hate the light.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: It blinds us. Yes, yeah, what do we got this week?
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: The last of con? Is this week the last episode?
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Are you guys going to review that now?
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: Next week?
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Like finish her up?
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: We'll finish up the movies. I think we can get
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: to CON after after Thanksgiving and all that.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: So okay, Yeah, Hey, Glen Glenn Lake is in Bozeman,
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Montana and it's three hundred and one acres, So I
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: don't know how there for a splashdown.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: But uh I got another question is you know when
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: they're fighting where the missile silo was with, you know,
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: and they're just shooting all the guns in there, it's like,
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: think how dangerous that might have been?
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a warp core.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean a warp core a missile, you know,
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: because in a missile, it's like basically if you hit that,
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: it's gonna leak, you know, yep, it like it'd be
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: so dangerous.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I heard some people say, well, where did they get
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: the anti matter? Where did they get the you know,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: the you know and all that.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: It's the future. We figured it out.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. All these things like the Romulins
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: use a quantum singularity. The Federation uses matter and antimatter.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what your fuel sources. You just need
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: energy for the warpels to create a warp drive. Okay,
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: so you could use electricity or or some other form
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: of something that creates energy is what the mis cells need.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: So you don't need animatter to do it. You could
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: use a nuclear reactor to do it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: So that and this, this wasn't a trip. This was
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: an experiment, right, you know the right the right brothers
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: said Kitty Hawk. You know, yes, they achieved flight. They
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: didn't fly anywhere.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: No, they didn't go anywhere. They're just.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Oh, it's working, it's working, it's working, it's working. And
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: then it crashed.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yeah, so uh while both says it is
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: our future, they probably improved landing tech and uh A
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: tree prom says he watched Stargate for the first time
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: this weekend. It was awesome. Next rewatch, maybe I guess
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: the next one we're having so we're doing the next movie, right,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: that's the next Yeah, which one is the Insurrection?
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Insurrection?
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Yeah, the the okay, the Lost episode that yeah movie.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Ever we're watching Sea.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: There you go and Dan Dan. I figured out Glenn
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Lake is about three and a half hours from Quarterlane,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: so it's drivable.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: I can go.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I can go inspect it and let you.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Yeah go check it out. Yeah, you're gonna report back
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: to us.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: There you go. My next week, I'll just take off
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: forget it. I'll just go drop everything and go do that.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: I'd like to see how accurate like the Apollo missions,
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: like where they landed, how close it was to where
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: they wanted to land. Yeah.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: I think there's the reason they used the ocean.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: The ocean.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's the biggest thing in the world.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Because I would imagine even like Michigan would probably be
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: too small of a target.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Well, like I said, you know, Elon scot those rockets
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: can land, so this is what how many?
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe it was something like that.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: Names for the ocean, it'd be easier to land now
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: than you know, fifty years that's true.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Yea is part of star trek lore captain.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, yeah, that's nice.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: We'll probably have a flying car coming out soon.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: So, like you mentioned him in the same breath as
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Zephan Cochran, Yeah, the same same group.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Uh yeah, well we got playing car prototypes now so.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, And then I was listening he was. He
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: was on some podcasts. He was talking about he's gonna
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: invent a flying car.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of people say that. We'll see what
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: it happened.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Anybody, anybody is crazy enough to actually attempt a real one.
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: It's Elon Musk, yes, and as the funds to do
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: it right.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Has the funds to do it? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: The dude's worth half a trillion dollars.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: We could have a flying car WHI should be crazy
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: and then have nobody like drive. It will be just
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: a I. And we got to depend on AI working right.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Occasionally.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: I see all my prompts turn out. I mean I
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: can't even get like Dan with the phaser right. And I.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: Love his handsticks out. I love those AI things that
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: you're doing, chazzz I absolutely love them. Yeah, they're great.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: It was crazy because I just took your pictures off
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: you know your profiles, and then I can bind him
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: on touch GPT and I was like, make these guys
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: into extra figures. And then it was just weird, how
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: like half ass did it?
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: And then that new Sora you know, that's how I
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: went on there and boom, yeah, just like typed out
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: a prompt.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: I appreciated it because my character in that looked very felt.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Yes, I.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: Want white guys look like legends, you know, like yeah, legends,
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: or they're all buff everything.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: She combat and she's like, I want to talk about
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: this scott action figure. She was like, what do we
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: want to talk about here?
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: She's gonna get you.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Some protein powder and you know your low carbonate buddy.
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: No more, let's get to this. And so it's only
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: egg white Scotty.
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: Go back, go back and ask it to make an
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: inaction figure and then you'll get a true representation.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: I just try that. Now, Danielle, you're gonna see Paddington
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: the musical.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Oh God, after that horrific thing. No, it's too scary looking.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: I put a I put a trailer in in the
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: in the group, they have announced a Paddington musical is happening.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: And in the trailer. They show what Paddington's gonna look like,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: and it looks horrifying. It looks like.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: I still do.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we'll get to that.
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: We'll get you really don't.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: What's talking about is amazing.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Hey, patting it's on Netflix right now.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah they all are.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: So check it out.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Paddington and Paddington and wrestling. That's where I drove the line.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: Understand wrestling.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Hey. At the at the Jedi Alliance, they had the
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: trick pinball machine right next to the wrestling pinball machine
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: and between those two.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: All right, well we should.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Probably can I can I just do a little bit
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: of house house Yeah, number one. I started listening to
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: the Shatner Verse books.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: Uh, okay books.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Uh, they're good, They're good. They were written by William
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: Shatner himself. He tried and and there's a lot of Kirk,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: you know, making love. They made you read.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: Them in your in your in your mind's ear. Do
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: you read them in William Shatner's voice? Do you read them?
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: I'm listening to them William Shatner.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: There it was a dark and stormy night.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of there's a lot of sensuality
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: about it. He's uh, he's he's got this beautiful Klingon
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Romulan girlfriend. You'd have to listen to this. The thing
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: his resurrection, Yeah, his resurrection. Oh all right, listen.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: Yeah you said his his red erection.
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: But that's a whole other d I think I downloaded
- 1:14:30Speaker 7: the Frog audio book.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: God. Uh. Yeah. So there's a prequel and then the
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Return is the one where it's that next generation era
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: and I just got done with the sequel, that one,
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: the Avenger.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: I gotta this up there you go.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: So I also played Star Trek Resurgence. Uh, it's a
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: download for I played it on the switch.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: It's kind of like a choose your own adventure kind
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: of thing. There's there's no action. There's a few puzzles
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: that you have to solve, but they're not very complicated.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: It's a very passive game. Ninety five percent of it
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: is you just watching the story take place, which is
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: a good story. The Uh yeah, it's I don't want
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: to give away anything. If you want to check it out,
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: it's like twenty bucks. It's fun to if you don't
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: want if you don't want a lot of controller action,
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: you just want to you know, make a few decisions
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: every once in a while, you can choose. Most of
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: the time you're choosing between like three dialogue boxes depending
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: on if you want to be a jerk, a nice person,
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: or something in between. There's a few puzzles to evolve.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: It's it's you're playing two characters. One you're playing the
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: captain of a ship, and you're also playing a lower decker.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Oh that's cool.
