- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, welcome to today's Radio Archive Hour, folks, on this
- 0:04Speaker 1: beautiful weekend day. Although you may be hearing this on
- 0:06Speaker 1: a weekday, who knows how we recycle these. But it
- 0:09Speaker 1: is a beautiful weekend here in California, and I'm Phil Henry.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We have one from April of 2003, and it's our
- 0:15Speaker 1: wonderful friend Jeff Dauter. Jeff is a, you know, who
- 0:19Speaker 1: knows what he does. He says he drives a snowplow
- 0:22Speaker 1: for Huntington Beach.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 0:23Speaker 1: He says he's a professor of mechanical physics at Caltech.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Sure.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Sure.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And here he is working for a marina, he says,
- 0:29Speaker 1: scraping the barnacles off the bottoms of boats. I think
- 0:32Speaker 1: it's all just an excuse for him to just hang
- 0:33Speaker 1: at the beach. And if and when he remembers how
- 0:36Speaker 1: to surf, he does that. But here is Jeff saying
- 0:38Speaker 1: that he lost an office bet when the Iraq War started.
- 0:41Speaker 1: In other words, he bet somebody when the exact start
- 0:43Speaker 1: date of the Iraq War was. And he lost because
- 0:46Speaker 1: he says Colin Powell, the overall commanding general of the operation,
- 0:52Speaker 1: gave out erroneous information. gave out erroneous information, and he
- 0:56Speaker 1: wants the government to pay him back.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Here's Jeff. This is Jeffrey Doughter. He's with us.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He's 29 years of age and works at Delcott Marina Sales.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Okay, and that's in Marina Del Rey, California.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You were on at least two TV shows yesterday, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: you've been doing some radio.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Tell us your basic position.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Phil, we just feel, Mr. Henry, that we are the
- 1:20Speaker 5: forgotten Americans in this conflict. There are other Americans... who
- 1:24Speaker 5: have lost personally in this conflict other than the soldiers.
- 1:30Speaker 5: And I think that, you know, we have to remember that.
- 1:34Speaker 5: There are some of us who have lost financially and emotionally,
- 1:37Speaker 5: and we think they're only people the government's paying attention
- 1:41Speaker 5: to are those who actually are physically in the combat theater.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Well, tell me how you got involved in this campaign.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Yes, sir. We had an office pool. I'm not sure
- 1:50Speaker 5: how many of those have been going on in the
- 1:52Speaker 5: country personally, But we had an office pool that we
- 1:55Speaker 5: contributed money to, in my case, $ 200. And it was
- 1:59Speaker 5: for people to guess the day that Baghdad would fall.
- 2:02Speaker 5: And within five days of that, you'd win the money.
- 2:07Speaker 5: And the day it would fall, we had two mechanics
- 2:10Speaker 5: who do most of our refits and boat repairs, and
- 2:12Speaker 5: one of them won the pool. His guess was April
- 2:14Speaker 5: the 12th, which is about within five days of today. Now,
- 2:19Speaker 5: I recognize that this seems to some people not as
- 2:21Speaker 5: important as the military families, but It was $ 200 that
- 2:26Speaker 5: came out of my pocket that I wanted to use
- 2:29Speaker 5: to go toward buying books because I'm going to be
- 2:31Speaker 5: going to junior college this summer and take some classes.
- 2:36Speaker 5: And I feel that we're getting duped by our government
- 2:40Speaker 5: into making these expenditures. And if the government's going to
- 2:42Speaker 5: help out military families, what about those of us who've
- 2:46Speaker 5: lost as well?
- 2:48Speaker 3: You realize the trivia, but you say this is an
- 2:50Speaker 3: office pool.
- 2:51Speaker 5: I understand, Mr. Henry, it's not the same thing as
- 2:53Speaker 5: hazardous duty pay, but there are a lot of Americans
- 2:57Speaker 5: who have been duped, and that's why I think the
- 3:00Speaker 5: government needs to compensate us to some degree.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Why do you say you were duped?
- 3:06Speaker 5: Well, because Donald Rumsfeld said this war was going to
- 3:09Speaker 5: take a lot longer. Tommy Franks, who's the general of
- 3:12Speaker 5: the Army, said it was going to take a lot longer.
- 3:14Speaker 5: And also General George Bush. said that it would take longer.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You mean President Bush?
- 3:22Speaker 5: Yeah, President Bush said it was going to take longer.
- 3:25Speaker 5: And so it didn't. And so I lost that money.
- 3:31Speaker 3: You're fully admitting that this is kind of trivial, though,
- 3:34Speaker 3: aren't you?
- 3:35Speaker 5: It is and it isn't. It is because compared to
- 3:39Speaker 5: the soldiers and what they're doing, it's not as tough.
- 3:46Speaker 5: But it isn't. Because this is what happens when you
- 3:49Speaker 5: believe your government. And because I believe the American government,
- 3:54Speaker 5: when they said that this war was going to last longer,
- 3:57Speaker 5: I dropped $ 200 in the office pool, and Kip Kiplinger,
- 4:03Speaker 5: who's one of the marina refit mechanics, won the office pool.
- 4:07Speaker 1: All right, well, there's also that, that at least somebody
- 4:09Speaker 1: did guess right.
- 4:11Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying?
- 4:12Speaker 5: Right, but I think we were all duped into going
- 4:14Speaker 5: into the pool... because of these claims by Donald Rumsfeld
- 4:21Speaker 5: and by Tommy Franks.
- 4:22Speaker 1: All right, we're talking here with Jeff Doughter, who is
- 4:27Speaker 1: with a group of people, actually. You call yourselves the
- 4:31Speaker 1: Those Who Suffer in Silence, right?
- 4:32Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Don't you think that's a bit insulting to people who've
- 4:36Speaker 1: actually had war wounds and injuries in the war?
- 4:40Speaker 5: Well, no, we're not trying, Mr. Ritter. We're not... This
- 4:43Speaker 5: is not a group of people who are not patriotic.
- 4:44Speaker 5: We're very patriotic. I'm just saying that while the soldiers
- 4:48Speaker 5: get all the glory, we suffer in silence because no
- 4:52Speaker 5: one knows about this pool. I lost 200 bucks.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Because I had a lady on last week who said
- 4:58Speaker 1: that housewives do more than Jessica Lynch did.
- 5:02Speaker 3: So there's a lot of people, I guess, that are
- 5:03Speaker 3: getting their feelings hurt not being recognized.
- 5:05Speaker 5: No, I don't need any recognition. What we'd want is
- 5:08Speaker 5: compensation from the government. of money we lost in office
- 5:12Speaker 5: pools as the result of them saying the war would
- 5:15Speaker 5: take longer.
- 5:16Speaker 1: All right, 1-800-449-8686 is our number, 1-800-449-8686. This is money
- 5:23Speaker 1: that could otherwise be given to the combat families, though.
- 5:26Speaker 3: You realize that?
- 5:28Speaker 5: I realize that, but they're already, see, they already get paid.
- 5:34Speaker 5: We don't. I don't get paid by the government. I
- 5:37Speaker 5: was lied to by the government. And I think compensation
- 5:40Speaker 5: is due me. The military works for the government, so
- 5:43Speaker 5: they get paid. But I got lied to.
- 5:47Speaker 3: So you see this more as reparations?
- 5:49Speaker 5: I believe it is reparations for the lies, yes, sir. Yes,
- 5:53Speaker 5: I do.
- 5:56Speaker 3: All right, 1-800-449-8686. We got a hold of Jeff Dowder's number.
- 5:59Speaker 1: He has been on a couple of television shows today
- 6:01Speaker 1: talking about how he lost $ 200 in an office pool.
- 6:05Speaker 1: predicting the day that the city of Baghdad would fall.
- 6:08Speaker 1: He lost the pool, he lost $ 200, and he feels
- 6:12Speaker 1: he lost the pool because the government lied and said
- 6:15Speaker 1: the war would take longer. I realize you're not claiming
- 6:20Speaker 1: that you need the money more than the military families do.
- 6:23Speaker 3: You're simply saying you need the money.
- 6:25Speaker 5: No, I recognize that our troops and the hazardous duty
- 6:29Speaker 5: pay they get. I'm just saying... that somebody needs to
- 6:34Speaker 5: recognize what we lost. Colin Powell should come out right
- 6:39Speaker 5: out of the chute and say, this war is not
- 6:41Speaker 5: going to take long, folks, if that's what he means
- 6:43Speaker 5: to say. But he didn't say it. Right out of
- 6:45Speaker 5: the chute, he should have said something like, yeah, listen,
- 6:48Speaker 5: this is going to be, you know, a couple weeks tops.
- 6:52Speaker 5: But he didn't do that.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Well, I don't know that anybody can predict that. You know?
- 6:57Speaker 3: Excuse me, I have to take a drink of water.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I can hear you coughing.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Okay, well, just hold on for a minute.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Oh, man. You want me to call back or something?
- 7:09Speaker 3: No, I'm fine. We're talking with Jeff Dauter here.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So the United States government lied to you, and you
- 7:17Speaker 1: dropped $ 200 in an office pool, and the troops who
- 7:21Speaker 1: are getting paid by the government, these troops.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Should share some of the government money, I guess. Is
- 7:31Speaker 3: that it?
- 7:31Speaker 5: Yes, sir. I think right now they're getting hazardous duty pay,
- 7:34Speaker 5: and I appreciate what the troops do, but I also
- 7:38Speaker 5: have been lied to by the American government, and we
- 7:42Speaker 5: feel we do need compensation. And by the way, Mr. Hendry,
- 7:46Speaker 5: there is precedent for this. The Small Business Administration gets
- 7:50Speaker 5: out business loans, the victims' rights organizations, and we're not
- 7:56Speaker 5: the only people. There's people who've canceled business. trips out
- 8:01Speaker 5: of town, Matchbox 20 is not going to be doing
- 8:04Speaker 5: their tour of Europe. Excuse me. And just all kinds
- 8:08Speaker 5: of stuff. So I think a lot of people are
- 8:09Speaker 5: struggling in business and everything. So that's what I'm saying.
- 8:12Speaker 3: All right, 1-800-449.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I don't know how Matchbox 20 canceling their tour has
- 8:16Speaker 1: to do with this.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Well, they're going to be losing money is what I'm saying.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Do you think they need to be compensated?
- 8:22Speaker 5: I think it would be good, but they're rich already.
- 8:26Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? They're already rich.
- 8:29Speaker 1: All right, here is, let me go over to Becky. Becky, hi,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you're on the Phil Hendry Show with Jeffrey Doughter of
- 8:34Speaker 1: Those Who Suffer in Silence.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Hi.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Hi, Becky, go ahead.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Okay, well, I would just like to tell this guy
- 8:41Speaker 6: that I think he is one pathetic loser, that he
- 8:45Speaker 6: is mad that our guys are going to come back early.
- 8:49Speaker 6: He is mad that we haven't suffered more.
- 8:51Speaker 5: No, ma'am, no, no, I'm not mad. I'm glad that, well,
- 8:55Speaker 5: but what about what I lost?
- 8:57Speaker 6: You haven't lost anything. You have gained an entire country here.
- 9:03Speaker 6: You have the honor of living in America. What have
- 9:06Speaker 6: you lost, two cents?
- 9:08Speaker 2: You haven't lost anything.
- 9:09Speaker 5: No, ma'am, it was $ 200 in the office pool.
- 9:12Speaker 6: We got our guys back.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Yes, that is good.
- 9:15Speaker 6: We lost fewer men.
- 9:16Speaker 2: You need to buck up.
- 9:17Speaker 6: I think you're a coward. You need to buck up
- 9:19Speaker 6: and be happy these men came back.
- 9:22Speaker 5: I'm happy, but it's not all about them. That's what
- 9:25Speaker 5: I'm trying to say. See how all you want to
- 9:27Speaker 5: do is make it about them?
- 9:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Want to do right now because that's the most important
- 9:32Speaker 6: thing in our country right now are our men and
- 9:36Speaker 6: women safe and going to come home to all these families.
- 9:39Speaker 6: not somebody like you who lost $ 200 because he made
- 9:44Speaker 6: a bet.
- 9:45Speaker 7: Well, all I'm saying is.
- 9:47Speaker 8: You chose your bet.
- 9:48Speaker 6: You knew what the score was, and you chose to
- 9:50Speaker 6: go ahead and place your bet, and you lost, and
- 9:53Speaker 6: now you're whining about it.
- 9:55Speaker 5: No, but what I am saying is that Colin Powell
- 9:57Speaker 5: should in the future say, honestly, okay, this war probably
- 10:02Speaker 5: will be in and out. Just be in and out.
- 10:05Speaker 7: What do you mean, in and out?
- 10:08Speaker 6: What if it's been in and out, and it took
- 10:10Speaker 6: three weeks longer with all these whining Americans that we've
- 10:14Speaker 6: had to deal with because it's taken too long?
- 10:19Speaker 5: A lot of the guys in the Middle East that
- 10:21Speaker 5: are fighting in the Marines shoot themselves in the foot
- 10:23Speaker 5: so they can come home. Should they get money?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Oh, will you come on?
- 10:29Speaker 5: I can't listen to this anymore. You know, that's what
- 10:31Speaker 5: you're doing right now. I should shoot myself?
- 10:34Speaker 6: Well, what are you doing right now, whining over a
- 10:37Speaker 6: couple dollars?
- 10:38Speaker 5: No, ma'am, right now I've got to go down. I've
- 10:40Speaker 5: got to get a boat part with Kippinger. Then we're
- 10:42Speaker 5: going to come back. We've got to refit a guy's
- 10:44Speaker 5: propeller because he's going to Mexico.
- 10:47Speaker 1: She didn't mean what are you doing specifically. She meant
- 10:49Speaker 1: what are you doing right now to help your country?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Our guys are coming home.
- 10:53Speaker 3: They went over. They did the do, baby.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And you lost $ 200.
- 10:57Speaker 3: In an office pool, sir, I think is, you know,
- 11:01Speaker 3: you admit that it's a little silly, right?
- 11:03Speaker 5: Well, no, I'm saying it's nothing compared to the soldiers,
- 11:06Speaker 5: but there are some soldiers that don't do that much.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Oh, well, so what?
- 11:11Speaker 6: They're over there doing their part, too.
- 11:13Speaker 9: And I'd like to make one more point to you.
- 11:16Speaker 6: I think you need the $ 200, because I think somebody
- 11:19Speaker 6: with your.
- 11:19Speaker 9: Mentality needs all the schooling.
- 11:22Speaker 6: They can get.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Hey, Phil Henry, I'm going to hang up.
- 11:26Speaker 3: All right, ma'am, thank you very much.
- 11:28Speaker 5: You're all wrong.
- 11:30Speaker 3: All right, thank you, ma'am.
- 11:32Speaker 5: 1-800-449-8686.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Jeff Dauter, Those Who Suffer in Silence is the organization.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We'll take some more phone calls at 1-800-449-8686. He lost
- 11:40Speaker 1: $ 200 in an office pool predicting which day Baghdad would
- 11:43Speaker 1: fall because he predicted five days later.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I'm going to have to ask him, but he didn't
- 11:48Speaker 3: predict the right day.
- 11:49Speaker 1: He feels the government should compensate him for that because
- 11:52Speaker 1: he was lied to by Colin Powell and Tommy Franks.
- 11:55Speaker 3: The war took a lot quicker than they said it would.
- 11:58Speaker 5: 1-800-449-8686.
- 11:59Speaker 1: You're listening to continuous coverage of the war in Iraq
- 12:04Speaker 1: here on The Phil Henry Show.
- 12:05Speaker 3: We'll be right back. The Phil Henry Show, 1-800-449-8686. Car
- 12:07Speaker 3: dealers in our next life.
- 12:36Speaker 8: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 12:38Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686.
- 12:40Speaker 5: I think a lot of Americans have made some major
- 12:42Speaker 5: adjustments because of this war. It's time we spoke up.
- 12:46Speaker 5: The government explained itself. It's giving money to the military
- 12:49Speaker 5: families who are related to the soldiers. And I don't
- 12:52Speaker 5: want to say nothing bad, but they... A lot of
- 12:55Speaker 5: those soldiers have shot Iraqi civilians, and I know that.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Hold on for a minute.
- 12:59Speaker 1: You're not going to start talking about our soldiers shooting
- 13:02Speaker 1: civilians on this show and tell me they don't deserve
- 13:05Speaker 1: their money.
- 13:05Speaker 5: No, no, but I know they didn't mean to. I
- 13:08Speaker 5: know they didn't mean to.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I don't care whether they meant to or not. You're
- 13:11Speaker 3: not talking about that.
- 13:12Speaker 5: But I entered an office pool, and I knew that
- 13:15Speaker 5: I was doing that, and I think it's him that's
- 13:17Speaker 5: critical about it.
- 13:20Speaker 3: All right, 1-800-449-8686. Let's move over here to Jody.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Hi, Jody.
- 13:26Speaker 3: You're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 13:27Speaker 7: Hi.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yes, ma'am.
- 13:29Speaker 10: I cannot believe that these men and women are over
- 13:32Speaker 10: there fighting, giving up their lives for this guy's.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Freedom, and he has the nerve to want to blame the.
- 13:39Speaker 10: Government because he is stupid enough to put $ 200 in
- 13:42Speaker 10: a pool.
- 13:43Speaker 5: I don't blame the government except that they said.
- 13:46Speaker 10: Well, why should the government give you any money for
- 13:49Speaker 10: your stupidity?
- 13:51Speaker 4: I guarantee you those soldiers are not making enough money
- 13:54Speaker 4: for doing.
- 13:54Speaker 10: What they're doing.
- 13:55Speaker 5: But they're getting more than $ 200.
- 13:56Speaker 4: They did not tell you to put your $ 200 in there.
- 14:01Speaker 10: Have you lost your mind?
- 14:02Speaker 5: No, ma'am. All I've said.
- 14:03Speaker 3: See, the point we're trying to make to you, Mr. Doughter... Well, Mr.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Inter, I can only talk to one person at a time.
- 14:09Speaker 5: If the two of you are going to gang up
- 14:11Speaker 5: on me, I think this forum's not very fair. And
- 14:14Speaker 5: the point that I'm trying to make is... I did not, okay...
- 14:20Speaker 5: I did not say that the government forced me to
- 14:24Speaker 5: do it. What I did say was that they lied
- 14:26Speaker 5: to me.
- 14:29Speaker 10: And so they owe you money for your stupidity.
- 14:33Speaker 5: What?
- 14:34Speaker 10: They owe you money for your own stupidity. They did
- 14:38Speaker 10: not tell you to bet.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Ma'am, the government gives money to businesses that go under.
- 14:42Speaker 5: It gives money to.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But they don't.
- 14:44Speaker 10: Give it to gamblers.
- 14:46Speaker 5: Student loans.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Gamblers.
- 14:49Speaker 5: It was an office pool. It's not gambling. It's gambling.
- 14:53Speaker 10: What world are you living in?
- 14:55Speaker 4: These men and women are fighting and dying, and they
- 14:58Speaker 4: are not getting paid enough, and you're worried about a $ 200.
- 15:01Speaker 10: You're whining over a $ 200 bet that you were stupid
- 15:05Speaker 10: enough to make.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Well, ma'am, that's about the ninth time you've used the
- 15:08Speaker 5: word stupid, and I'm not calling you no names. But,
- 15:11Speaker 5: you know, it is stupid. It is stupid. I'm sorry.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Some of those guys are sitting over in Iraq getting
- 15:17Speaker 5: a Santan, and yet they're going to get my 200 bucks.
- 15:21Speaker 5: I would have had at least bumped up my bet
- 15:23Speaker 5: to April if Donald Rumsfeld had been honest enough.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Those men are sitting over there dodging bullets for your freedom.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Ma'am, I understand that, but Rumsfeld is the problem. I
- 15:34Speaker 5: would have bumped my bet up to April. Oh, good.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:38Speaker 10: Oh, my goodness.
- 15:39Speaker 5: It's hypocritical. They get money and hurt people.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Oh, will you stop?
- 15:44Speaker 10: Well, why don't you go join in, and maybe they'll
- 15:46Speaker 10: pay you.
- 15:48Speaker 5: What?
- 15:50Speaker 11: Go join the service.
- 15:54Speaker 5: What?
- 15:54Speaker 10: I mean, if you're so worried about this $ 200, go
- 15:58Speaker 10: do something for your country.
- 16:00Speaker 5: About what?
- 16:01Speaker 10: You're worried about $ 200 that you made on a stupid
- 16:05Speaker 10: bet I'm telling you, if you want money, go join
- 16:09Speaker 10: the service. They'll pay you.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Also, those soldiers, did you see the pictures of them
- 16:14Speaker 5: sitting on Saddam's gold toilet and stuff? Absolutely, I did. Absolutely,
- 16:19Speaker 5: I did. They're squeezing one out on the gold toilet seat,
- 16:21Speaker 5: and I'm sitting here $ 200 lighter.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh, jeez.
- 16:23Speaker 5: That is insane.
- 16:25Speaker 3: What difference does it make? You know what?
- 16:28Speaker 10: Those gold toilets belong to the Iraqi people.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And if the Americans go in there and use them,
- 16:34Speaker 4: after going across that desert for days and days, being
- 16:37Speaker 4: shot at, they deserve it.
- 16:38Speaker 3: No kidding. And take a shower, too.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Exactly. I'm not saying they don't not deserve it. I'm
- 16:44Speaker 5: just saying.
- 16:45Speaker 10: You want your $ 200 because you made a stupid bet.
- 16:48Speaker 5: All right.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Thank you very much, ma'am. I think that's the bottom line.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 16:52Speaker 1: 1-800-449-8686. Small business loans are given out, Mr. Doughter, and
- 16:57Speaker 1: student loans are given out and some of the other
- 16:59Speaker 1: things that you mentioned. But the government and the government
- 17:02Speaker 1: is trying to help the families of our military as
- 17:04Speaker 1: much as they can.
- 17:05Speaker 3: You were involved in an office pool. You lost your money.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And you're saying you lost it based upon information that
- 17:11Speaker 1: was given to you by Donald Rumsfeld and by other
- 17:14Speaker 1: members of the media.
- 17:17Speaker 5: That is, well, no, by the government. And also, and
- 17:20Speaker 5: I think I have to say it, and I don't
- 17:21Speaker 5: mean any, and you didn't want me to say it,
- 17:23Speaker 5: but I think I should say it. The soldiers have
- 17:26Speaker 5: been shooting and killing people, and yet they get paid.
- 17:29Speaker 5: All I did was make a bet.
- 17:31Speaker 3: They're supposed to shoot and kill people.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Yes, they are. Okay, technically, but it's still morally wrong
- 17:40Speaker 5: for them to do it.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So you're better than them.
- 17:44Speaker 5: I wouldn't say that.
- 17:45Speaker 3: But that's what you're saying. You're better than them.
- 17:47Speaker 1: So you want to get your 200 bucks that you
- 17:49Speaker 1: lost in an office pool quicker than the soldiers in
- 17:52Speaker 1: Iraq should get their money because they're shooting and killing people,
- 17:55Speaker 1: and that's immoral.
- 17:56Speaker 5: It is against the Bible. Yeah. It is against the Bible.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Are you a Christian, sir?
- 18:04Speaker 5: Yes, I am. Yes, I am.
- 18:10Speaker 3: All right, 1-800-449-8686. Here is Kimberly. Kimberly, go ahead. You're
- 18:13Speaker 3: on The Phil Henry Show.
- 18:14Speaker 11: Hi, Phil.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Yes, ma'am. Hi.
- 18:16Speaker 11: I just wanted to ask, or I know it's not
- 18:18Speaker 11: a question-and-answer session, I mean, but this guy's wanting reimbursement
- 18:22Speaker 11: for our government for making an invalid prediction, for lack
- 18:26Speaker 11: of better terms. You know, is he also going to
- 18:28Speaker 11: want money from our editors who predict ball games incorrectly?
- 18:33Speaker 11: I mean, if you go into one office pool, you
- 18:35Speaker 11: go into a multiple.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Because that's a private business. That's a private business. But
- 18:40Speaker 5: General Bush.
- 18:41Speaker 11: Excuse me, a private business? Do you really think that
- 18:46Speaker 11: our military government went in there knowing it was going
- 18:50Speaker 11: to end on a particular day?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Sir, this war is not over.
- 18:54Speaker 5: No, ma'am, but the fall of Baghdad is what the
- 18:57Speaker 5: bet was about. And no, but they knew this was
- 19:00Speaker 5: going to be pretty sweet.
- 19:02Speaker 11: Oh, you think?
- 19:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 3: What do you mean, sweet?
- 19:05Speaker 5: Oh, they had it. With everything that they had, they
- 19:09Speaker 5: knew they'd go in and just, you know, roll over them.
- 19:14Speaker 5: How could they not?
- 19:15Speaker 11: And you're saying that, you know, one guy knows one ball,
- 19:18Speaker 11: you know, one team knows is going to win. And
- 19:21Speaker 11: who says if you don't make a bet against the
- 19:24Speaker 11: opposing team?
- 19:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm curious.
- 19:26Speaker 11: I'm curious of your pool how many of you are
- 19:30Speaker 11: really having this complaint. I mean, if it's the whole gamut,
- 19:33Speaker 11: go ask the.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Guy for your money back.
- 19:35Speaker 1: What?
- 19:36Speaker 11: Had you won the money, you wouldn't be on the
- 19:38Speaker 11: Phil Henry Show.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Right, exactly. Thank you very much, Kimberly. Hold on, Mr. Doughter. 1-800-449-8686.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Should the government compensate people who've lost office pools predicting
- 19:47Speaker 1: the fall of Baghdad?
- 19:49Speaker 3: Phil Henry Show.
- 19:49Speaker 12: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 20:04Speaker 7: 1-800-449-8686.
- 20:06Speaker 3: On the line with me is Jeff Dowder.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He's formed a loose organization of people called Suffering in Silence,
- 20:12Speaker 1: people who have lost money because of this war and
- 20:15Speaker 1: are not getting compensated the way the soldiers do.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I want to be very clear. Do you think you're
- 20:19Speaker 3: equal to our fighting men?
- 20:20Speaker 5: No, sir, I do not. But I'm just saying. I
- 20:23Speaker 5: entered an office pool based upon what I had been
- 20:26Speaker 5: told by the military. And I said June 1st. That's
- 20:31Speaker 5: my pick. Some people said the end of April. Some
- 20:34Speaker 5: guys said that it would be December 9th. So there's
- 20:37Speaker 5: quite a bit of, you know, kind of a differentiation.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And the problem is that this war was conducted, I think,
- 20:44Speaker 5: in a way that imperiled the troops' lives. I mean,
- 20:46Speaker 5: it was conducted too fast for average Americans who may
- 20:49Speaker 5: be involved in this kind of recreation, office pools and
- 20:53Speaker 5: the like, to make extra income by winning the pools.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Okay. Well, wars vary in length.
- 20:58Speaker 5: I understand, but I did research. The Gulf War lasted
- 21:02Speaker 5: 42 days. World War II lasted between September 1st of
- 21:06Speaker 5: 1939 to May 3rd of 1945. That was 2,406 days.
- 21:12Speaker 5: But the technology today is better. That's why wars don't
- 21:15Speaker 5: last 2,000 days anymore, because of the technology. And I
- 21:19Speaker 5: took a lot of these variances, and as a result,
- 21:23Speaker 5: I said June 1st. And I got taken down to
- 21:27Speaker 5: the tune of $ 200.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Do you honestly believe the U.S.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Government should cover this money that you lost as they
- 21:33Speaker 1: send battle pay to the troops? I do.
- 21:35Speaker 5: And I realize to a lot of Americans it doesn't
- 21:37Speaker 5: sound right, but there is precedent.
- 21:39Speaker 3: As I said. All right, 1-800-449-8686. Miriam, go ahead. You're
- 21:44Speaker 3: on The Phil Henry Show. Miriam?
- 21:48Speaker 10: Yes?
- 21:48Speaker 3: Go ahead, ma'am. You're on the air.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 21:50Speaker 2: My name is Miriam. I'm calling from Miami. I'm not
- 21:53Speaker 2: a fully American citizen, but I live here. I do
- 21:58Speaker 2: have a nephew that is in the front lines in
- 22:00Speaker 2: the Marines. And I don't know if this is a
- 22:02Speaker 2: prank that you have with this guy on the line,
- 22:04Speaker 2: but if it's not, okay, just now I just heard
- 22:07Speaker 2: him saying something, oh, that the Gulf War lasted 45 days,
- 22:11Speaker 2: the Vietnam War.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Yeah, 42 days.
- 22:14Speaker 2: How did you last it with your IQ of zero?
- 22:18Speaker 2: How have you lasted to survive in this world, okay,
- 22:22Speaker 2: for this long?
- 22:23Speaker 5: What do you mean?
- 22:24Speaker 2: You talk about morals. Do you know what that word means?
- 22:28Speaker 2: Because you have none, okay? You have none. Morals, how
- 22:32Speaker 2: can you come and say that they don't have morals
- 22:33Speaker 2: because they go and they have to defend themselves by
- 22:36Speaker 2: killing whoever is threatening their lives, okay? But you have,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you think that moral is for you to come and
- 22:43Speaker 2: bet on their lives here for $ 200?
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I think that you are a parasite, but even you
- 22:51Speaker 2: are not worth $ 200, because I don't think your mom, okay,
- 22:56Speaker 2: will think that your life is worth $ 200. I think
- 22:57Speaker 2: that you are a parasite. I think that you need
- 23:01Speaker 2: to get.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Your butt over there and work.
- 23:04Speaker 2: If you think that you are such a masochist, okay,
- 23:07Speaker 2: I'll gladly, when my nephew comes back, I'll give you
- 23:10Speaker 2: one of his uniforms, and I want you to go
- 23:12Speaker 2: and do what he did. You just love that you
- 23:15Speaker 2: live in the United States, okay? And they're giving their
- 23:18Speaker 2: life for you to come and open your mouth and
- 23:20Speaker 2: have all the trash that comes out of it.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Okay? Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 2: First of all, you are insulting the families, the moms
- 23:28Speaker 2: and dads and sisters of every soldier, okay, that have
- 23:32Speaker 2: died in this war.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Well, that's a good point.
- 23:34Speaker 2: You are insulting, no, they're doing it, okay. You're insulting
- 23:39Speaker 2: the American troops, you're insulting the British troops, and you're
- 23:42Speaker 2: insulting the poor Iraqi, innocent Iraqi people.
- 23:46Speaker 5: May I say something, Mr. Henry?
- 23:47Speaker 11: Mr.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Henry, could I say something?
- 23:49Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Go ahead. I'd like to ask the lady if her
- 23:52Speaker 5: nephew's uniform is from Taco Bell.
- 23:54Speaker 1: She said he's in the military.
- 23:59Speaker 2: He wouldn't be in the front line, okay?
- 24:01Speaker 5: Oh, he's in the army.
- 24:01Speaker 2: He wouldn't be in the front line.
- 24:03Speaker 3: What do you mean, is it from Taco Bell?
- 24:04Speaker 5: Well, I didn't know what it was.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Didn't I just say, you know, sir? No, you said
- 24:11Speaker 2: he wore a uniform. You need to cut him off
- 24:13Speaker 2: the air, okay? Because if I knew where you live...
- 24:17Speaker 2: At my five feet, two inches, 110 pounds, I will
- 24:21Speaker 2: go and flop you silly.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Wait a second.
- 24:23Speaker 2: That's what an imbecile you are.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Cinderella Rice said that the war would take longer. Now
- 24:29Speaker 5: it's not.
- 24:29Speaker 2: How can you go and bet on anything? How can
- 24:32Speaker 2: you bet on anything like that? How can you bet
- 24:34Speaker 2: on anything like that?
- 24:35Speaker 5: Because it was an office pool.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Why don't you?
- 24:38Speaker 5: Okay, you know what?
- 24:39Speaker 2: I'll put on my visa as one-way ticket for you
- 24:44Speaker 2: to go and live in Iraq. I'll find out where
- 24:47Speaker 2: Saddam Hussein is, and I'll send you to live with him, okay?
- 24:50Speaker 5: Why would I want to live there?
- 24:51Speaker 8: That's where you deserve to be.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Why would I want to live there? They don't have
- 24:54Speaker 5: Boston Market.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Listen to me. I come from a country which we've
- 24:58Speaker 2: had a dictatorship.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Which one? Which one?
- 25:00Speaker 2: In Nicaragua. I come from Nicaragua. Okay, so you have
- 25:03Speaker 2: no crap. You don't know anything.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Do you know Costa Rica?
- 25:07Speaker 2: Oh, do you know where that is, though?
- 25:10Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of friends of mine surfed Costa Rica,
- 25:14Speaker 5: and they said it's sweet.
- 25:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:18Speaker 3: They serve Costa Rica.
- 25:19Speaker 2: They don't even own a military thing.
- 25:22Speaker 5: OK, because they're all right.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Miriam, Miriam, you've made a very good point.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And I think you need to cut him off.
- 25:29Speaker 5: What is that?
- 25:30Speaker 3: What is that sound?
- 25:32Speaker 2: What is that guy's phone?
- 25:34Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 25:35Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 25:35Speaker 2: I'm going to hang up.
- 25:37Speaker 5: All right. Thank you.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Thank you, Miriam. Thank you very much for your call.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Yeah. Does your son work at Taco Bell?
- 25:43Speaker 3: It's her nephew. 1-800-449-8686. Damaris, go ahead. You're on the
- 25:50Speaker 3: Phil Henry Show.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Hi.
- 25:52Speaker 13: Your caller is probably one of the biggest jerks I've
- 25:56Speaker 13: ever heard. Number one, I don't know what kind of
- 25:57Speaker 13: people work in his office, but I'm appalled that they
- 26:01Speaker 13: would even conduct a pool like that. number two, this
- 26:11Speaker 13: guy claims that he is a Christian. Well, I don't
- 26:15Speaker 13: know any Christian that gambles, and they especially don't make
- 26:21Speaker 13: bets on people's lives.
- 26:22Speaker 5: What? No, I didn't say about lives. I don't know
- 26:25Speaker 5: what church.
- 26:26Speaker 9: He's going to, but if he would have put as
- 26:29Speaker 9: much energy... into doing research and doing something worthwhile to
- 26:36Speaker 9: serve his country.
- 26:38Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I worked for Delicat Marina Company.
- 26:43Speaker 9: Excuse me, in doing.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Research to find out.
- 26:47Speaker 9: How long the Vietnam War lasted, then this country would
- 26:52Speaker 9: be a better place.
- 26:53Speaker 8: But obviously, this.
- 26:55Speaker 13: Guy has no license.
- 26:56Speaker 9: And he's got invested in researching the length of the
- 26:59Speaker 9: Vietnam War to make his bet.
- 27:03Speaker 5: I'm a Christian, okay, number one.
- 27:05Speaker 9: Then can you pronounce Bible correctly?
- 27:07Speaker 5: What's that, ma'am?
- 27:08Speaker 9: Then can you try to pronounce Bible correctly?
- 27:12Speaker 5: I did pronounce it correctly. I said, well.
- 27:14Speaker 3: You said Bible.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Uh-huh. I'm sorry?
- 27:17Speaker 3: You said, sir... I said Bible.
- 27:19Speaker 10: You said Bible.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Bible.
- 27:22Speaker 5: I said Bible. Uh-huh. Bible.
- 27:24Speaker 11: Mm-hmm.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Okay, well, what, does that make you a genius? Christians
- 27:27Speaker 5: don't bet, sir. Okay, you're a genius.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 27:31Speaker 5: What do you mean Christians don't bet? I don't know
- 27:32Speaker 5: what book you're reading. I read the Bible. And it
- 27:35Speaker 5: says right there that Jesus changed the water into wine.
- 27:40Speaker 13: And how is that betting?
- 27:42Speaker 5: It's drinking. How is that betting? Same thing.
- 27:47Speaker 9: How is that betting?
- 27:48Speaker 3: All right, thank you very much, Damaris. 1-800-449-8686. Adela, go ahead.
- 27:53Speaker 5: General Bush isn't a Christian either.
- 27:56Speaker 8: Hey, look, what you've got to do is go get
- 27:59Speaker 8: yourself a better job and stop gambling because those who
- 28:03Speaker 8: gamble have to, you know, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
- 28:07Speaker 8: And when you lose, you have to shut up and
- 28:09Speaker 8: take it. Take it as a man. You're man enough
- 28:11Speaker 8: to do the research. You're man enough to go ahead
- 28:13Speaker 8: and gamble. Then you be man enough and shut the
- 28:16Speaker 8: hell up and stop blaming the poor Americans who are
- 28:19Speaker 8: out there fighting for the world, fighting for peace everywhere.
- 28:23Speaker 5: Have you ever been in an office school before? In
- 28:26Speaker 5: an office pool? No, you haven't. You don't know what
- 28:29Speaker 5: an office pool is because you're not from America.
- 28:32Speaker 8: Who said I'm not from America?
- 28:35Speaker 5: You said you came from Puerto Rico.
- 28:38Speaker 8: I am not Puerto Rican.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Didn't you say that?
- 28:41Speaker 3: No, she didn't.
- 28:42Speaker 5: No, I did not. No.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I have not said that at any point.
- 28:47Speaker 8: An office pool, no matter how you look at it,
- 28:50Speaker 8: is gambling.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Where are you from?
- 28:52Speaker 8: I am from Miami.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Yeah, sure.
- 28:55Speaker 8: And you're just a lazy-bound person who would rather have
- 28:59Speaker 8: it easy.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Than gamble for it. You sound like you come from
- 29:03Speaker 5: some kind of an island.
- 29:04Speaker 8: Pardon me?
- 29:06Speaker 5: You sound like you come from some kind of an island.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Look, where are we going with this conversation? The government
- 29:11Speaker 1: is not going to compensate you for your bet. The
- 29:14Speaker 1: government isn't going to do that.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Well, Mr. Henry, then there's going to be trouble. You're
- 29:18Speaker 5: going to get compensated.
- 29:19Speaker 11: Go work.
- 29:21Speaker 5: I do work. I work at Delcott Marina Sales, and
- 29:24Speaker 5: I scrub the barnacles off of boats.
- 29:28Speaker 8: Well, then maybe you should scrub some more in your
- 29:30Speaker 8: free time, see and find out who else wants you
- 29:34Speaker 8: to do some extra work for them, and go make
- 29:36Speaker 8: a decent living instead of just being wanting to take
- 29:41Speaker 8: the money away from the government that's putting the food
- 29:44Speaker 8: in so many people's mouths that need it a lot
- 29:47Speaker 8: more than you do.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Could you repeat that?
- 29:49Speaker 3: Never mind. Thank you very much. Let's go over to
- 29:52Speaker 3: Jeremy on the Phil Henry Show. Jeremy?
- 29:55Speaker 7: Yeah, this guy over here talking about how the government
- 29:58Speaker 7: ought to pay him back his money he's lost.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Yeah, because it was an office pool, and I predicted
- 30:03Speaker 5: June 1st.
- 30:04Speaker 7: Well, speaking of morally right, you shouldn't have even been
- 30:08Speaker 7: betting on it in the first dang place. And if
- 30:11Speaker 7: you're talking about how our soldier over there is shooting
- 30:14Speaker 7: and killing people, if somebody's shooting at me, you're damn
- 30:17Speaker 7: right I'd be shooting back. And them idiots ought to
- 30:19Speaker 7: be right over there.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Why would you?
- 30:22Speaker 7: Why would I?
- 30:23Speaker 5: Yeah. You wouldn't? I wouldn't be over there in the
- 30:27Speaker 5: first place.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Look, I'm not going to argue. I ain't arguing the
- 30:31Speaker 3: merits of the Iraq war, okay?
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm just saying the government ain't going to pay you
- 30:35Speaker 1: back for your small business loan.
- 30:38Speaker 3: What is that?
- 30:40Speaker 5: What?
- 30:40Speaker 7: I think it's in the bong or something, man.
- 30:43Speaker 2: What?
- 30:44Speaker 8: Are you here?
- 30:45Speaker 3: Are you smoking dope?
- 30:47Speaker 5: Got to be. Okay. Since when is that against the law?
- 30:52Speaker 7: Hey, it's against the law in the state of Arkansas.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Hey, buddy, why don't you just go finish shaving your
