2:08
Speaker 4: and again just stuff. Thank you to you the greatest

Speaker 4: Some cool stuff going on with Selango law Light the
2:20
Speaker 4: night over at the Gomart Ballpark. Talked to Ben Selango
2:23
Speaker 4: and Andy Shay about that not everybody hates the snow. We
2:27
Speaker 4: didn't get a whole lot here in the Kanal Valley,
2:29
Speaker 4: but that's not the case elsewhere in West Virginia. The
2:32
Speaker 4: ski lodges are loving it. And we're going to talk
2:34
Speaker 4: to Joe Stevens from the West Virginia Ski Areas Association
2:37
Speaker 4: about that. Bleasannah Gardner will be stopping by his always
2:39
Speaker 4: on Friday with our doubt me please pedal the week
2:42
Speaker 4: from the Canal Charleston Humane Association want to welcome in
2:44
Speaker 4: now though Chris Lawrence, Chris, good morning, Good morning. And
2:47
Speaker 4: Tom braggs somewhere on a sled, how are you, buddy.
2:52
Speaker 4: I'm all right, Dave, I'm doing fine. Let's talk about
2:56
Speaker 4: we finally got some high school football to talk about,
2:59
Speaker 4: and it's not being played in a courtroom, it's actually
3:01
Speaker 4: being played on a field somewhere.
3:02
Speaker 6: Chris, I'll start with you. Yeah, as I mentioned in
3:04
Speaker 6: the promo, court is adjourned. Let's play the game, and
3:08
Speaker 6: they throw it up tonight in Hurricane As the Redskins
3:11
Speaker 6: will host George Washington in the opening round game of
3:15
Speaker 6: the High School Football Quad A Playoffs tonight. That one
3:18
Speaker 6: to be at Redskins Stadium, kick off at seven o'clock,
3:21
Speaker 6: so we'll have to dump out a sports line early
3:22
Speaker 6: for our pregame show and then we'll have the play
3:25
Speaker 6: by play for you coming up at seven o'clock. But
3:27
Speaker 6: we also because we had a Friday night game and
3:30
Speaker 6: we've got another local team in action, we're gonna be
3:32
Speaker 6: able to bring you a couple of games tomorrow. Of
3:34
Speaker 6: course Tom's game that he'll talk about momentarily, but Nitro
3:38
Speaker 6: is in the Class TRIPA Playoffs and they will be
3:40
Speaker 6: hosting Shady Spring tomorrow. So what we're gonna do tomorrow
3:44
Speaker 6: is we're not gonna have a pregame show. We'll just
3:46
Speaker 6: write a kickoff dump out of our Mountaineer coverage and
3:49
Speaker 6: bring you Nitro in shady spring and then soon as
3:51
Speaker 6: the game's over, we'll pop back into Mountaineer coverage tomorrow.
3:54
Speaker 6: So that's our plan, all right, And tom where are you.
4:00
Speaker 7: Home? I was at the grocery store.
4:01
Speaker 4: I didn't mean where are you now? I mean, I mean,
4:04
Speaker 4: where are you going to be tomorrow or whatever?
4:06
Speaker 6: I don't, I don't really What did you get at
4:08
Speaker 6: the grocery store since you brought it up? Yeah, go ahead,
4:10
Speaker 6: you bread and milk? I mean, is that what you needed?
4:13
Speaker 7: I mean, among other things, bread, milk, stuff to put
4:15
Speaker 7: in the fridge. The snow complaining our weekend.
4:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah it was.
4:20
Speaker 7: It was a weekend supply run.
4:22
Speaker 6: As we just completely train wreck Dave's show away from him.
4:26
Speaker 5: I can.
4:27
Speaker 4: I can train wreck it on my own. I don't
4:28
Speaker 4: need your help. But talk about what.
4:30
Speaker 7: You're going to be tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow, I'm going to
4:32
Speaker 7: be out in Elk. You first ever home playoff game
4:35
Speaker 7: for Herbert Hoover. They've been the home team for playoff
4:38
Speaker 7: games before, but they've never had the facility to be
4:41
Speaker 7: able to host a home playoff game on their campus,
4:43
Speaker 7: so tomorrow is going to be the first time they've
4:44
Speaker 7: ever done that. Talk with coach Joey fields this week
4:47
Speaker 7: that whole community is fired up and ready to go.
4:49
Speaker 7: They host Elkins. It's a rematch of a regular season
4:52
Speaker 7: game from about a month ago. Whover won that pretty handily.
4:55
Speaker 7: That's the game where Dane Hatfield broke the school's all
4:57
Speaker 7: time rushing record. So it should be a good one.
5:00
Speaker 7: The teams have seen each other before, they know each
5:02
Speaker 7: other before. Hoops had it rolling. But you know, Cutchfield
5:05
Speaker 7: is one of those guys. He says, he doesn't believe
5:07
Speaker 7: in that whole You don't You don't want to play
5:08
Speaker 7: a team twice. You don't want to see a team
5:10
Speaker 7: for the second time in the playoffs. He said, he
5:12
Speaker 7: thinks every game kind of tells its own story, and
5:14
Speaker 7: he just hopes they've got a good one to write
5:15
Speaker 7: on Saturday.
5:16
Speaker 4: Where are we on the volleyball situation, Chris?
5:20
Speaker 6: It will be played December second and third at West
5:23
Speaker 6: Virginia State. The Supreme Court, for a second time this
5:26
Speaker 6: week sided with the SSAC and indicated that they were
5:31
Speaker 6: authorized as the governing body of high school sports, and
5:35
Speaker 6: so the injunctions that had held up the Class single
5:38
Speaker 6: A tournament were rejected and Tyler consolidated. The injunction came
5:44
Speaker 6: out of Tyler County, whereas the Silver Knights had played
5:47
Speaker 6: all season long as a Class Double A team but
5:50
Speaker 6: felt like they should go into the playoffs as a
5:52
Speaker 6: Class Single A team. The Supreme Court said, no, you'll
5:54
Speaker 6: go in as what you've been all season long, as
5:56
Speaker 6: the SSAC put it, And so they will play that
6:00
Speaker 6: Class A tournament December second and third at West Virginia
6:03
Speaker 6: State because obviously the venue at the Charleston Coliseum and
6:07
Speaker 6: Convention Center will be has other things going on at
6:10
Speaker 6: that time. So it's I mean, I know everybody still
6:13
Speaker 6: has a lot of problems with the way things are
6:15
Speaker 6: set up, but I think the Supreme Court made it
6:18
Speaker 6: pretty clear that this isn't their their place to step
6:22
Speaker 6: in here. If there are changes at the SSAC, they're
6:25
Speaker 6: going to have to come from other places, possibly the legislature,
6:28
Speaker 6: because that who that is who has empowered the SSAC
6:31
Speaker 6: with the authority they have along with the Border Control
6:34
Speaker 6: and the Board of Review.
6:35
Speaker 4: All right, reset the broadcast schedule for us again.
6:38
Speaker 8: Guys.
6:39
Speaker 6: We'll be on the air tonight on five eight WCCHS
6:42
Speaker 6: with Hurricane and George Washington rematch from a couple of
6:46
Speaker 6: weeks ago that Hurricane won. Will be on the air
6:48
Speaker 6: at six point thirty and the kickoff is at seven
6:51
Speaker 6: o'clock at Redskins Stadium.
6:52
Speaker 4: All right, and Tom for you.
6:55
Speaker 7: Tomorrow game goes off one point thirty. We'll be on
6:58
Speaker 7: the air probably about one thirty five one KWS and
7:02
Speaker 7: online and all the apps and all that stuff. Tooting guys.
7:04
Speaker 7: Should be a fun game.
7:05
Speaker 4: And we're also going to be picking up the Nitro game.
7:06
Speaker 6: We will. We'll be on the air at one thirty
7:08
Speaker 6: tomorrow as well on WCCHS radio, so you can check
7:11
Speaker 6: that out amid the Mountaineer coverage that if you want
7:14
Speaker 6: to listen to Hobby and the guys on the Mountaineer coverage.
7:16
Speaker 6: We'll also be simulcasting that over on ESPN and one
7:20
Speaker 6: oh six point seven FM and fourteen ninety tomorrow.
7:22
Speaker 4: All right, Tom, I'm gonna let you go. Chris, you
7:25
Speaker 4: got to West Virginia outdoors tomorrow. Tom, thanks a lot
7:27
Speaker 4: to have a great broadcast.
7:28
Speaker 7: Buddy, Thanks for listen.
7:29
Speaker 4: All right, he's got to get back to his chicken nuggets.
7:31
Speaker 4: I unwing out there. Well, you don't want them to
7:33
Speaker 4: get to get nothing soggy nights exactly. I've always said that,
7:36
Speaker 4: UH tomorrow and West Virginia out Doors. Of course, Monday
7:39
Speaker 4: is the opening day of bucks season in West Virginia,
7:42
Speaker 4: and I always on the Saturday before that, bring in
7:44
Speaker 4: a couple of guys from the Natural Resources Police and
7:48
Speaker 4: we have a conversation about uh specifically game laws, specifically
7:52
Speaker 4: for a dear season, because people have a lot of
7:55
Speaker 4: questions regarding you know, what kind of license do I need?
7:59
Speaker 6: What can I and I hunt? Do I need this
8:01
Speaker 6: various permit? What do I do if people are trespassing?
8:04
Speaker 6: And we'll have a couple of guys in and we'll
8:06
Speaker 6: take calls and we'll from the public tomorrow and if
8:08
Speaker 6: you've got any questions for the Natural Resources Police, I'll
8:12
Speaker 6: have a couple of guys in to address those. As
8:14
Speaker 6: buck season gets started next week, are you gonna get
8:16
Speaker 6: to go hunting?
8:17
Speaker 5: All right?
8:18
Speaker 6: Well, I have a trip planned in December, so I
8:21
Speaker 6: had to forego the opening week here to accommodate my
8:25
Speaker 6: vacation week for that trip. Plus I've had I've had
8:28
Speaker 6: a lot, it's been a rough year and I had
8:29
Speaker 6: I've had to take a lot of bereavement leave, this year,
8:32
Speaker 6: so I just have not been able to take the
8:35
Speaker 6: time off that I've been wanting to. But I'm hoping
8:37
Speaker 6: to catch that up in.
8:37
Speaker 4: December, which you'll be there in Spirit in the woods.
8:40
Speaker 6: Oh absolutely yeah. And who knows, I might get out
8:42
Speaker 6: of here in time to get a couple of hours
8:43
Speaker 6: in a stand, you know, one afternoon after work or
8:46
Speaker 6: something like that.
8:47
Speaker 4: All right, Chris, we'll be listening to Tom. Appreciate it.
8:49
Speaker 8: Man.
8:49
Speaker 4: Thanks, It's Chris Lawrence again talking in high school football
8:53
Speaker 4: payoff action. It's nine to sixteen to Dave Island showing five.
8:55
Speaker 4: Eddie Livee is brought to you apart by Pinnacle Consultants.

9:08
Speaker 4: industrial type settings. Visa Pinnacle Corp dot net. Because what
9:11
Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt you. Let's bring in Hannah
9:13
Speaker 4: Gardner now from the Canal Charleston Humaine Association with this
9:15
Speaker 4: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, good morning,
9:19
Speaker 4: good morning, how are you, and a happy early Thanksgiving
9:23
Speaker 4: you as well. I got to throw this out there
9:25
Speaker 4: because and I forgot to ask Chris and Tom. But
9:28
Speaker 4: with all my guests this week, I've been trying to
9:29
Speaker 4: remember to ask him, what's your favorite part of the
9:31
Speaker 4: Thanksgiving meal?
9:34
Speaker 9: Well, the turkey and the mashed potatoes have to probably
9:38
Speaker 9: be my absolute favorite. And nothing is better than mashed
9:41
Speaker 9: potatoes and gravy.
9:42
Speaker 4: You're exactly right, all right, all right, all right, I
9:44
Speaker 4: get you there. All right, So we got the dog
9:47
Speaker 4: posted as we always do, or adopt me please Pet
9:49
Speaker 4: of the week. It's you can check it out on
9:51
Speaker 4: my social media Dave Oland Radio and Facebook and at
9:54
Speaker 4: Dave a seventy on Twitter. We are talking about a
9:58
Speaker 4: dog named Gretel. Tell us a a not Gretel.
10:02
Speaker 9: All right, Well, Gretel, she is a very very sweet girl.
10:06
Speaker 9: She is around one year old. And of course, again
10:10
Speaker 9: I will say every time we do go by their
10:13
Speaker 9: gums and their teeth. If we do not know, like
10:16
Speaker 9: exactly when they were born, if they were surrendered to
10:18
Speaker 9: us or anything like that, then we checked their guns
10:20
Speaker 9: in their teeth and there is like a scale range
10:23
Speaker 9: that kind of gives you a general idea of what
10:25
Speaker 9: their age is. So we do estimate that she is
10:28
Speaker 9: around one year old, and I do want to mention
10:32
Speaker 9: that she did go. She was one of the candidates
10:34
Speaker 9: that went to Light the Night the other night, and
10:38
Speaker 9: she got to go with a staff member of ours
10:40
Speaker 9: and was excellent the whole time that she rode in
10:43
Speaker 9: the car with them. They said that she had some
10:46
Speaker 9: of the best manners. She was such a sweet girl.
10:50
Speaker 9: I was there as well. I got to witness her
10:52
Speaker 9: being so good. She is such a good girl. She
10:55
Speaker 9: sits on command, and she waits very patiently for you
10:59
Speaker 9: if she's just sitting there, and she loves, love, loves treats.
11:03
Speaker 9: She's very food motivated, so she would do well with
11:06
Speaker 9: some training, probably with some food motivation. But honestly, she's
11:11
Speaker 9: such a good listener and such a good, well mannered
11:14
Speaker 9: dog that she seems like maybe she maybe have had
11:17
Speaker 9: some sort of training at one point or something. But
11:21
Speaker 9: she is around thirty two pounds, so she is the
11:24
Speaker 9: perfect size dog in my opinion. But she is a
11:28
Speaker 9: very very good girl. I think when she was found
11:31
Speaker 9: she was abandoned in a home for a couple of days,
11:33
Speaker 9: and our humane officer went out and got her as
11:36
Speaker 9: soon as I don't think it was ours. Actually it
11:38
Speaker 9: was just a humane officer and we went out and
11:40
Speaker 9: got her as soon as they heard, and she came
11:43
Speaker 9: into the shelter and just has been an absolute sweet girl.
11:45
Speaker 9: You wouldn't even know that she had been abandoned or
11:49
Speaker 9: anything like that. She never even acts like it at all.
11:52
Speaker 9: But she's a very very sweet girl.
11:54
Speaker 4: And the picture that I have posted on on social
11:56
Speaker 4: media again it's Dave Alan Radio on Facebook and at
11:59
Speaker 4: Dave seventy on x the artists for me on to Twitter.
12:01
Speaker 4: That picture was actually taken at the Light to Night
12:05
Speaker 4: a couple of nights ago. So yeah, I mean absolutely
12:08
Speaker 4: it is a beautiful doggler and check it out, all right.
12:10
Speaker 4: How we look at number wise at the shelter this week?
12:12
Speaker 4: Anything better to report from last week? Because I know
12:14
Speaker 4: you were at mega mega capacity at this time last weekend.
12:20
Speaker 9: So of course we are still pretty high capacity. I'm
12:25
Speaker 9: not exactly sure, haven't gotten to look at the numbers
12:27
Speaker 9: this week yet, but I do know that we are
12:29
Speaker 9: still pretty much at the kind of the same as
12:32
Speaker 9: what we were. I think we're still running on a
12:34
Speaker 9: very very limited intake I think from our admissions department,
12:41
Speaker 9: but I'm not one hundred percent sure. If you do
12:44
Speaker 9: have any questions about that, you are always welcome to
12:46
Speaker 9: call and seek with our admissions department if you do
12:49
Speaker 9: find an animal. We do have resources if we cannot
12:52
Speaker 9: take the animal, so definitely reach out to us and
12:55
Speaker 9: we can let you know like what we can do
12:57
Speaker 9: to help and what other resources we have to get view.
13:00
Speaker 9: But very very very helpful things right now are of
13:04
Speaker 9: course volunteering. We always need to help. We have so
13:06
Speaker 9: many animals right now. Donating is always a big help.
13:10
Speaker 9: Blee each peer in a dog chow and I pick.
13:12
Speaker 9: I think blankets are always needed, blinkets, linen, stuff like that.
13:16
Speaker 9: I think the pillows we don't really need so much
13:18
Speaker 9: of because they shred them up, but the blankets and
13:22
Speaker 9: stuff like that we always always need. So definitely spread
13:24
Speaker 9: the word as well. That definitely helps for sure.
13:27
Speaker 4: All Right, again, we're talking with Hannah Garden for the
13:28
Speaker 4: Kennala Charleston Humaine Association. Before we let you go, you
13:31
Speaker 4: mentioned that the picture that I posted of Gretel, the
13:34
Speaker 4: dog we're trying to get adopted this week, was actually
13:36
Speaker 4: taking it light to night. I do want to mention
13:38
Speaker 4: that there's going to be another. They call these things
13:40
Speaker 4: lights and leashes over the over the ballpark. The next
13:44
Speaker 4: one is going to be on December of the twelfth,
13:46
Speaker 4: so go ahead and make plans on stopping by that
13:50
Speaker 4: night or any night, and you can see the animals
13:53
Speaker 4: that they have on display. Hannah, you will get next
13:55
Speaker 4: week off because I'm not doing a show next Friday,
13:58
Speaker 4: but we'll talk to you the following week as a
14:01
Speaker 4: sound all right, have a happy Thanksgiving. We'll talk here
14:04
Speaker 4: in two weeks. Thanks a lot. You have a chop
14:06
Speaker 4: one had a gardener from the Canal Charleston You Maine Association.
14:09
Speaker 4: Gretel is our dog this week. One year old female
14:14
Speaker 4: weighs around thirty two pounds. As Hannah said, that's a
14:16
Speaker 4: pretty good sized dog, kind of in the middle somewhere,
14:19
Speaker 4: and she was found after being in an abandoned house
14:22
Speaker 4: for four days. She's not fixed yet, but will be
14:25
Speaker 4: very very sweet. Girl loves other dogs, loves riding in
14:28
Speaker 4: the car, loves treats. She can sit on command. They
14:32
Speaker 4: say that she's absolutely just the dang near perfect dog.
14:36
Speaker 4: And when they took her over to the light the
14:38
Speaker 4: night over to Goimart Ballpark the other night, she had
14:40
Speaker 4: a great time, So I got to picture posted on
14:42
Speaker 4: my social media and Stave Island Radio, or you can
14:44
Speaker 4: check it out on Twitter the artist formally actually it's
14:47
Speaker 4: the artist formally known as Twitter, now known as x
14:50
Speaker 4: and it's at Dave A seventy. If you want to
14:52

17:42
Speaker 4: To me and let me welcome in Andy, Shane ben Slango,
17:45
Speaker 4: I am not a snow lover at all. I'm not
17:48
Speaker 4: a fan. However, the snow that we got last night.
17:51
Speaker 4: When I woke up this morning, I looked out and
17:53
Speaker 4: I said, man, my lawn is covered in snow. The
17:56
Speaker 4: rooftop is covered in snow. But there was absolutely none
17:58
Speaker 4: on the ground, none of the road. That's the kind
18:01
Speaker 4: of snow I like.
18:02
Speaker 12: Man, we had some on the ground, and my dogs
18:04
Speaker 12: love it. What I don't love is after they're rolling
18:07
Speaker 12: in the snow and then they come inside and it's
18:09
Speaker 12: all over the house. It's my house looked like a
18:12
Speaker 12: mud pit this warning. It was awful, but no, I
18:14
Speaker 12: love it. I loved it more when I was younger.
18:16
Speaker 12: As I get older, I'm.
18:16
Speaker 4: Like, yeah, it just creates headach. I mean, and these
18:19
Speaker 4: people that I see on social media and everybody likes
18:21
Speaker 4: what they like. I get that, but it's like, bring
18:23
Speaker 4: it off. Bringing I was like, you apparently don't have
18:25
Speaker 4: to go anywhere, you know you can look at That's fine.
18:27
Speaker 12: Let's see what they say in middle of January February.
18:30
Speaker 4: Andy, you a snow lover.
18:31
Speaker 8: You know what I always have been.
18:33
Speaker 13: I love the cold, but I mean it's been a
18:36
Speaker 13: new a new feeling with light the night. I mean,
18:39
Speaker 13: it is ridiculously cool seeing the entire field, the entire
18:43
Speaker 13: stadium with snow on it. And then the other thing
18:45
Speaker 13: that's been, you know, just fascinating is the amount of
18:49
Speaker 13: pictures and videos that we get, not from people necessarily
18:52
Speaker 13: that are in the event or in the ballpark or
18:54
Speaker 13: with the organization. I mean, the random pictures that we
18:58
Speaker 13: get are so fun to watch, and so you know,
19:00
Speaker 13: I mean, it really is beautiful.
19:02
Speaker 4: And you had your first marriage proposal the other night.
19:04
Speaker 4: Is that acond It was the second week last year,
19:07
Speaker 4: first one of this year.
19:08
Speaker 13: Oh yeah, first one and absolutely and I mean with
19:10
Speaker 13: the perfect I mean it could not have been more perfect.
19:13
Speaker 13: I mean they under the Merry Chistmas sign.
19:16
Speaker 8: I mean it was you know.
19:17
Speaker 13: And I would say the thing that is so amazing
19:19
Speaker 13: with that is that I don't as far as I know,
19:21
Speaker 13: I don't think we posted that sign before.
19:23
Speaker 2: So that's what's so.
19:24
Speaker 13: Cool that people are clearly thinking in advance, I want
19:28
Speaker 13: to have my special lifelong memory at the ballpark, and
19:32
Speaker 13: then when they see that sign, this is the spot.
19:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome. And I saw that posted on your
19:38
Speaker 4: social media the other day and I last time you
19:40
Speaker 4: guys were on the show, I said to you. Then
19:43
Speaker 4: I said, mark my And of course I hadn't looked
19:45
Speaker 4: at a long range forecast, and they're not very accurate
19:47
Speaker 4: sometimes anyway, Sorry Brian Hughes. But but I did say
19:51
Speaker 4: at that time, I said, when you get the first snow,
19:54
Speaker 4: you're gonna have a lot of people. And it started
19:56
Speaker 4: snowing here in the Canall Valley. Midday started out his
19:58
Speaker 4: rain and the snow and then uh so was I right?
20:01
Speaker 4: Would you have a good house? Last night?
20:02
Speaker 13: It was solid, but not all snow is created equally,
20:06
Speaker 13: that's true. Yeah, you said it when it starts with
20:08
Speaker 13: rain and it's wet and in the thirties not But anyways,
20:13
Speaker 13: as it started, honestly, as it started really getting further
20:16
Speaker 13: away from that rain and more into the snow, that's
20:19
Speaker 13: when the crowd started really picking up. And I think
20:21
Speaker 13: that it'll lead into I think this weekend is going
20:24
Speaker 13: to be really special.
20:25
Speaker 4: But they've onland showing five adyline presented in apart by
20:27

20:39
Speaker 4: that this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week
20:42
Speaker 4: from the Canal Charleston Humane Association Gretel. Gretel's picture that
20:45
Speaker 4: I have posted on my social media guys, was taking
20:47
Speaker 4: it Light the Night a couple of nights ago when
20:49
Speaker 4: they did the leashes. What I forgot what do you
20:51
Speaker 4: call lease light lights and leashes?
20:53
Speaker 5: Yeah?
20:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so that's pretty cool.
20:55
Speaker 8: That was a blast.
20:56
Speaker 13: I mean, you know, we've been talking about the light
20:58
Speaker 13: the night is for literally everyone and it definitely extends
21:01
Speaker 13: to man's best friend. So there were some there were
21:04
Speaker 13: a lot of dogs out there, and we're already pumped
21:06
Speaker 13: and planning for the next one, which will be on
21:08
Speaker 13: December twelfth.
21:09
Speaker 4: All right, and so how does that work? I mean,
21:11
Speaker 4: is that open? I know you had the animals from
21:13
Speaker 4: the Animals shelter, but can anybody bring their animals those nightsolutely?
21:16
Speaker 2: Please do?
21:18
Speaker 4: All right? All right? So what else you got going on?
21:20
Speaker 4: I know you guys got by the way, you guys
21:23
Speaker 4: got to officially kick off the Christmas music across the
21:25
Speaker 4: hall of V one hundred. I was in there for
21:27
Speaker 4: that with Steve and Jenny. They flipped the switch at nine.
21:29
Speaker 4: We didn't actually have a switch, but you got a bell.
21:32
Speaker 12: We found a bell there was there was a random
21:34
Speaker 12: bell in there, so we just we smacked that around.
21:36
Speaker 4: You never know what you're gonna find in a radio studio,
21:39
Speaker 4: I could tell you, but they found a bell. So
21:41
Speaker 4: you got to be the ones the I guess the
21:42
Speaker 4: Grand Marshals of you, if you will, of the Christmas
21:45
Speaker 4: music on their sister station, V one hundred.
21:47
Speaker 12: That was that was actually really cool. I didn't know
21:50
Speaker 12: that we were going to do that until this morning
21:53
Speaker 12: I got a call and say, hell, by the way,
21:54
Speaker 12: you'll be flipping the switch. I was like, wow, that's uh,
21:58
Speaker 12: that's that's an honor. So that was a lot of fun.
22:01
Speaker 12: And you know for the Light to Night, we've we've
22:04
Speaker 12: got Sensory Night coming up every Tuesday in December, Sinsury
22:08
Speaker 12: Friendly Night, so you know the autistic kids, uh, even
22:12
Speaker 12: old adults, they can come in and they'll have headphones,
22:16
Speaker 12: they'll have all kinds of things that you can do
22:17
Speaker 12: that so that it's you know, it's open to everyone.
22:20
Speaker 12: So that's that's a that's a really good thing that
22:22
Speaker 12: Andy Shay and the Dirty Birds are doing.
22:24
Speaker 4: And what night is that again? Every Tuesday? In every
22:26
Speaker 4: every Tuesday December. And I would think that there has
22:29
Speaker 4: been quite a bit of demand, uh for for for
22:32
Speaker 4: those not just at Light to Night but h but
22:34
Speaker 4: in other activities.
22:35
Speaker 12: Absolutely, well, you want to make an inclusive so folks
22:37
Speaker 12: that have mobility issues, you know, you can come in.
22:40
Speaker 12: It's it's uh, it's wheelchair accessible. I think they come
22:44
Speaker 12: through the center field. Remember the first couple of nights
22:47
Speaker 12: last year, Uh, we hadn't really put that out and
22:50
Speaker 12: and one of the most frequent questions we would get
22:52
Speaker 12: on social media, so Lange Law would be, uh, is
22:55
Speaker 12: it accessible? And it absolutely is, and so they've done
22:57
Speaker 12: a really good job making it even better this year.
23:00
Speaker 12: But the people with mobility issues you can come in
23:03
Speaker 12: as well, so feel free to bring grandma or grandpa in.
23:07
Speaker 12: They're going to have a great time. I know Andy
23:08
Speaker 12: opened it up. A lot of the residents of nursing
23:11
Speaker 12: homes came in last year, which honestly was one of
23:13
Speaker 12: the absolute joys just to stand out there and watch
23:17
Speaker 12: them come in. You've got eighty and ninety year old
23:19
Speaker 12: seeing this for the first time. It was really impressive.
23:22
Speaker 12: So they've done a great job making sure that it's
23:25
Speaker 12: open to everyone.
23:26
Speaker 4: And will go. It's every night through Christmas except for
23:29
Speaker 4: Christmas Night, so for Christmas, so if you want to
23:31
Speaker 4: come out on Christmas Eve, and by the way, hats
23:33
Speaker 4: off to those people that agree to work that on
23:37
Speaker 4: Christmas Eve, because that's generally speaking, depending on what your
23:39
Speaker 4: family traditions are when people get together. But there are
23:42
Speaker 4: a lot of people that like to get out and
23:45
Speaker 4: they like to go and look at those things, especially
23:47
Speaker 4: if again, if you've got a little snow on the
23:49
Speaker 4: ground Christmas music playing over to V one hundred, our
23:53
Speaker 4: sister station for that kind of puts you in the mood.
23:55
Speaker 8: Gas.
23:55
Speaker 13: Oh absolutely, And you know, with I've said this a bunch,
23:58
Speaker 13: but I mean it wholeheartedly. I mean, the staff that
24:01
Speaker 13: installed light the night that you know, helped kind of
24:04
Speaker 13: put everything in place, and then by all means the
24:06
Speaker 13: ones that are operating it. I mean they're second and
24:09
Speaker 13: none the best staff that I know of, and the
24:11
Speaker 13: best or you know, people that want the organization in
24:14
Speaker 13: the community to succeed.
24:16
Speaker 8: And be happy.
24:17
Speaker 13: I mean, and that's what you know, the best vibes
24:19
Speaker 13: ever are at this event right now. And when it
24:21
Speaker 13: comes to the holidays and all that stuff. I mean,
24:23
Speaker 13: it certainly was not a demand and expectation. It was
24:27
Speaker 13: a conversation, and I mean our staff really really wanted
24:31
Speaker 13: to be able to put it on for all of
24:34
Speaker 13: those days that you know, when, like you said, have
24:37
Speaker 13: already turned into really cool family traditions. I mean, I've
24:40
Speaker 13: talked to a bunch of people that this will be
24:43
Speaker 13: their second Thanksgiving in a row and they want to
24:45
Speaker 13: be able to do it forever. This will be their
24:47
Speaker 13: second Christmas Eve that after they have family dinner or
24:50
Speaker 13: church or whatever.
24:51
Speaker 4: They come straight to light the night.
24:52
Speaker 13: So I mean it really is, you know, hands on
24:57
Speaker 13: memory making, and I think that everyone just just loves it.
25:01
Speaker 13: I mean, you know, the atmosphere is truly second or none.
25:04
Speaker 12: And you know, the people that are having family in
25:06
Speaker 12: for Thanksgiving and Christmas, make sure you take him over there.
25:10
Speaker 12: Get your tickets online. You know, I tell people spend
25:13
Speaker 12: time in the park, don't spend time in line, So
25:15
Speaker 12: make sure you buy them online, get them in advance.
25:17
Speaker 12: Even if you just the general admission ticket. You just
25:19
Speaker 12: come through and you can see everything. You can walk
25:22
Speaker 12: through the field. They've got so many different things set
25:26
Speaker 12: up this year. When I walked at the first time,
25:28
Speaker 12: we Tear and I both noticed all the different things
25:31
Speaker 12: that they had this year. So it's it's bigger. It's better.
25:33
Speaker 12: Bring the family in from out of town, and you know,
25:36
Speaker 12: especially the ones that have left West Virginia and then
25:38
Speaker 12: they're coming back in and I want them to see this, yeah,
25:41
Speaker 12: you know, because I promise you they're not going to
25:43
Speaker 12: have something like this in their city.
25:44
Speaker 4: Good A very good point there, Ben, Because a good
25:48
Speaker 4: friend of mine, she and her husband moved five or
25:52
Speaker 4: six years ago down to the Charlotte, North Carolina area
25:54
Speaker 4: and they're bringing their young son in. And she commented
25:57
Speaker 4: on social media, she said, bringing you know the because
26:00
Speaker 4: the sun doesn't have a lot of memory its of
26:02
Speaker 4: West Virginia, you know. It said, what are something we're
26:04
Speaker 4: going to be in for the week of Thanksgiving? What
26:06
Speaker 4: are some things we need to do? And I said
26:08
Speaker 4: to her, I commented, I said, you need to go
26:10
Speaker 4: to light to night, you know, because he he will
26:13
Speaker 4: certainly enjoy it. And I know what, You're going to
26:15
Speaker 4: get a lot of that as we have this week,
26:17
Speaker 4: as we head toward Christmas, getting a lot more people
26:19
Speaker 4: that are coming in from out of town.
26:21
Speaker 12: And of course, if you know, they've got the bumper
26:23
Speaker 12: cars this year. They didn't have that last year.
26:25
Speaker 5: You know.
26:25
Speaker 12: I tried to get Andy to have the bumper cars
26:27
Speaker 12: while they were ice skaters on the ice, but he refused.
26:30
Speaker 12: He must have a good lawyer.
26:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're hard to find.
26:34
Speaker 12: They're very, very horrified. So there are certain times set
26:37
Speaker 12: up for the bumper cars. Those are a blast. Make
26:41
Speaker 12: sure you're going to come in. I think they're doing
26:42
Speaker 12: those also. They're doing like ice skating. Was it Friday
26:46
Speaker 12: and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday I can't remember Andy,
26:48
Speaker 12: So that where you can just come in during the
26:50
Speaker 12: day and do ice skating, which is which is a
26:52
Speaker 12: lot of fun.
26:53
Speaker 13: Oh yeah, Saturday, Sunday and then I mean as we
26:55
Speaker 13: open up and holidays, we'll definitely have more because that
26:58
Speaker 13: was something that was one of the most asked and
27:01
Speaker 13: kind of in demand things last year is extended ice
27:04
Speaker 13: skating hours. I mean, because it is it's you know,
27:07
Speaker 13: like we keep saying, it's for everyone. You don't have
27:09
Speaker 13: to be a professional ice skater to be able to
27:12
Speaker 13: utilize what we have. And I think that it's been
27:15
Speaker 13: a true blast being in that atmosphere with all the
27:19
Speaker 13: millions of lights, let alone your buddies, your family, all
27:22
Speaker 13: that stuff. So yes, those daytime, weekend hours were a
27:26
Speaker 13: huge emphasis for us.
27:27
Speaker 12: And keep in mind here this is realized. It's not
27:29
Speaker 12: the synthetic stuff. This is not the plastic that that
27:31
Speaker 12: just spray water on. This is this is realize. They
27:34
Speaker 12: have the generator of a freezing machine out in center field.
27:38
Speaker 12: It's it's gigantic. So you know, when they have skates there,
27:42
Speaker 12: you don't have to bring your own skates. What would
27:44
Speaker 12: be really cool.
27:45
Speaker 4: And you and Steve Bishop were over there off the air,
27:47
Speaker 4: Andy talking about minor league baseball promotions. If you could
27:51
Speaker 4: somehow keep that going, I don't know how you do it.
27:54
Speaker 4: Covered a state eum in an Iglo. There's more money,
27:57
Speaker 4: you know, and do baseball on ice.
27:59
Speaker 13: This somesh because I obviously want to do it right
28:06
Speaker 13: now now.
28:08
Speaker 4: The attorney in bensi Lango just went.
28:12
Speaker 3: It would be man.
28:14
Speaker 8: I got all right, we gotta figure out all.
28:16
Speaker 4: Right, Jay Silverman, guess why I.
28:19
Speaker 12: Show just to see how this is gonna work out?
28:22
Speaker 4: I mean some of the best. I mean last night
28:23
Speaker 4: the Cleveland Pittsburgh game in the NFL. I mean I
28:26
Speaker 4: did not make it for the whole game, but I
28:28
Speaker 4: watched like the first half and they were talking about snow.
28:30
Speaker 4: And then I get up this morning and I look
28:32
Speaker 4: up the final score and it looks just like I mean,
28:34
Speaker 4: had well those lake effects snowstorms in Cleveland, Uh, which
28:37
Speaker 4: you know, the Browns won last night. I predicted the
28:39
Speaker 4: Browns would win, and the Browns actually won last night.
28:41
Speaker 4: So people like to watch sporting events in inclement weather.
28:44
Speaker 4: They don't necessarily like to play in it. All right,
28:46
Speaker 4: get your tickets early. That's the key thing. The key
28:49
Speaker 4: takeaway anytime we have you guys on the show is
28:52
Speaker 4: that you really do need to get those tickets early.
28:54
Speaker 12: Absolutely. Make sure you log onto the Dirty Birds website.
28:57

Speaker 4: and Ben Solango Slango Law, appreciate both you guys being here. Oh,
29:11
Speaker 4: by the way, I have been asking this of all
29:13
Speaker 4: my guests when I remember your Thanksgiving meal, the favorite
29:16
Speaker 4: part for you, Selango, I'm gonna go ahead and guess
29:19
Speaker 4: what yours is, But go ahead.
29:20
Speaker 12: Uh Honestly, Tara makes the best sweet potato casserole. Okay,
29:27
Speaker 12: I mean it is. In fact, she makes them all
29:30
Speaker 12: of our friends ask for now, So it is. That's
29:32
Speaker 12: honestly my favorite. I'm not really I don't really like
29:35
Speaker 12: the turkey so much. Last year actually cooked it upside down.
29:38
Speaker 12: But uh no, sweet tedda casserole.
29:40
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, I was gonna say, you look like
29:42
Speaker 4: a dressing guy at me.
29:44
Speaker 12: Uh No, she likes the dressing. I'm not really dry.
29:46
Speaker 12: I like the cast role and.
29:50
Speaker 14: Ham.
29:50
Speaker 4: We also have ham. Okay, all right, Andy, yours.
29:53
Speaker 13: Would have typically said stuffing, which I still love and
29:56
Speaker 13: it's one of those ones you don't see it other
29:58
Speaker 13: than in the Thanksgiving time frame. But the last couple
30:01
Speaker 13: of weeks my six year old son has been obsessed
30:04
Speaker 13: and loves making pumpkin pie. Okay, so I've always liked it,
30:07
Speaker 13: but now I like it that much more and I
30:10
Speaker 13: have a nice little head start of having multiple slices
30:14
Speaker 13: every day. There you go, good one great with a
30:16

30:18

Speaker 13: through every night going through the holiday season except for
30:26
Speaker 13: Christmas night. Be a great night tonight with a look
30:29
Speaker 13: because the temperatures aren't gonna warm up much. There's gonna
30:31
Speaker 13: be some rain today which could knock some of the
30:33
Speaker 13: snow off. But maybe tonight there'll be a little bit
30:35
Speaker 13: of snow on the ground, but there definitely will be
30:37
Speaker 13: some as we head further into the winter season.

34:06
Speaker 8: Very very very true.
34:07
Speaker 4: Indeed, Joe Steven's coming up a little bit later on
34:10
Speaker 4: from the West Virginia Ski Areas Association. I want to
34:13
Speaker 4: bring in now Saint Albans, Mayor of scott James s.
34:15
Speaker 4: May Or James, good morning, welcome to the show.
34:17
Speaker 19: Good morning, Dave. It's good to be back. And your
34:19
Speaker 19: Brown's won last night, Yes, sir, in.
34:21
Speaker 8: Brown's beat up on him squealers.
34:24
Speaker 4: I figured that puts you in a good I predicted yesterday.
34:26
Speaker 4: I was talking to Weekly. It was on hotline yesterday.
34:28
Speaker 4: I predicted the Browns would win that game. I really
34:31
Speaker 4: really did, and I'm not you know, I got a
34:33
Speaker 4: brother in law that lives in Cleveland. He's everything Cleveland related.
34:36
Speaker 4: I got plenty of friends that are Stealer fans. But
34:39
Speaker 4: I said last night, I just had a feeling that
34:41
Speaker 4: the Browns are going to win that game. Maybe the
34:43
Speaker 4: weather related or whatever, but they won.
34:45
Speaker 8: Man, when we were kids, we love playing in snow
34:48
Speaker 8: like a man. That was a blast, but yeah, they.
34:53
Speaker 19: You know, I've been a Browns fan since the sixties
34:55
Speaker 19: and enough suffered for decades, and I get it.
34:58
Speaker 8: I get it.
34:59
Speaker 19: I took him when Fantasy League we do pool picks
35:01
Speaker 19: every week and Cleveland was getting three and a half
35:05
Speaker 19: and I picked them to win.
35:06
Speaker 4: So they won. All right, before we get into some
35:09
Speaker 4: things Christmas re lated, do need to talk to about
35:11
Speaker 4: some news related stuff with you? There was explain the
35:15
Speaker 4: situation because it came out yesterday that West Virginia American
35:18
Speaker 4: Water had, I guess put together a proposal involved in
35:23
Speaker 4: the city Saint all which just tell.
35:24
Speaker 2: Us the whole story.
35:25
Speaker 8: Yeah, that is correct, to be honest with you.
35:30
Speaker 19: They approached me probably four years ago plus interested in
35:35
Speaker 19: buying it. We did not pursue it at any point.
35:39
Speaker 19: I failed if I wanted to get re elected, if
35:41
Speaker 19: I went and sold the water and sewer company, that
35:44
Speaker 19: that wouldn't happen. But after the last election, we did
35:48
Speaker 19: our due diligence and we were gonna let them give
35:51
Speaker 19: us a proposal. They came down. They spent three hours
35:55
Speaker 19: at our sewer plant, three hours at our water plant,
35:59
Speaker 19: and came.
36:00
Speaker 8: Up with a proposal.
36:02
Speaker 19: We felt the proposal was relatively low and uh the
36:07
Speaker 19: m UC board that voted unanimously five oh to reject it.
36:11
Speaker 19: Now we'll go to council doesn't have to, but we're
36:14
Speaker 19: gonna take it to care.
36:15
Speaker 4: Now, what does that board explain that?
36:17
Speaker 2: The board, the.
36:17
Speaker 19: Municipal Utility Commission board, it is the when you become mayor,
36:22
Speaker 19: you're automatically chairman of the board of the muc okay
36:26
Speaker 19: and uh, then you have four other board members, two
36:32
Speaker 19: of them from council, two from the community.
36:35
Speaker 8: And so.
36:38
Speaker 19: It's a board that, uh, you know, put a lot
36:40
Speaker 19: of thought into this. And uh, but you know, the
36:45
Speaker 19: rates on our consumers were gonna are more than double
36:49
Speaker 19: in some cases, all.
36:50
Speaker 8: Right, and that's something we don't want.
36:54
Speaker 19: You know, our rates were so low, Dave, that we
36:57
Speaker 19: had to do a minimal increase so we qualify for
37:00
Speaker 19: grants loans. They were so low we didn't qualify for
37:03
Speaker 19: grants and loans. But you know, there's work to be
37:07
Speaker 19: done at our sewer plant, our water plant. We have
37:09
Speaker 19: a ten year plan and we're in pretty good shape
37:13
Speaker 19: to be honest with you, all right, I.
37:14
Speaker 4: Want to go ahead and give you an opportunity to
37:16
Speaker 4: talk about that. I also want to give you an
37:17
Speaker 4: opportunity to talk about some Christmas related stuff right in
37:21
Speaker 4: the City of Saint Albans I'll tell you what.
37:22
Speaker 19: When Christmas rolls around, we are have activities going all
37:29
Speaker 19: the time. Next Tuesday, the twenty sixth, is the walk
37:33
Speaker 19: through for the Festival lights. People park the high school,
37:36
Speaker 19: walk up to the park, walk through the lights, and
37:39
Speaker 19: walk back down. Wednesday the twenty seventh is our hay
37:43
Speaker 19: Rides through the Festival Lights, which is always a great turnout.
37:47
Speaker 19: A lot of families come up. Then closed on Thanksgiving obviously,
37:55
Speaker 19: then on Friday the drive through start. We don't ask
37:58
Speaker 19: for any payment. If people want to make monetary donations
38:02
Speaker 19: or food donations, which the food donations go to the
38:05
Speaker 19: food Bank in Saint Albans, they're welcome to do that.
38:10
Speaker 19: But if they have nothing, they're still welcome.
38:12
Speaker 8: To go through.
38:14
Speaker 19: Then the following weekend, December, the sixth Friday, we have
38:19
Speaker 19: a Christmas Market on Old Main starting at three o'clock,
38:23
Speaker 19: goes till eight o'clock. At six o'clock on Old Maine
38:27
Speaker 19: is our tree lighting, and at seven o'clock the Mayor's
38:30
Speaker 19: Christmas Concert featuring Landale You Gene Murphy. He'll be singing
38:35
Speaker 19: at the Auburn Theater. Tickets are going fast, and I
38:39
Speaker 19: think they're extending to a second show at nine o'clock
38:43
Speaker 19: that night, so a lot of things happening there. And
38:46
Speaker 19: then on Saturday is our Christmas Parade at three o'clock,
38:50
Speaker 19: which is always a great prey. Patty Swingo, one of
38:53
Speaker 19: our great volunteers in Saint Albans, puts it together.
38:57
Speaker 8: And if you want to be in it, you can
38:59
Speaker 8: get hold of patty'sw and go. And then the.
39:02
Speaker 19: Luminaries at the Cemetery are also Saturday, December seventh.
39:07
Speaker 4: And going back to the Christmas Parade, I will say
39:09
Speaker 4: this that all of our stations will be taking part
39:12
Speaker 4: in that. I think I'm representing the Mountain ninety eight
39:14
Speaker 4: seven that day. It's just a big, big, big, big,
39:18
Speaker 4: huge Christmas parade and everybody comes out for it.
39:20
Speaker 8: Yeah, it really does.
39:21
Speaker 19: It's always a great turnout, not only for people participating
39:25
Speaker 19: in the prey, but people along the parade route, and
39:29
Speaker 19: so you know, we look forward to it each year.
39:32
Speaker 8: It gets a little bigger and a little better.
39:34
Speaker 4: Indeed, great place to be during the holiday season anytime
39:37
Speaker 4: is in Saint Albus. Go back to the Festival of
39:40
Speaker 4: Lights again for those that are maybe listening in and
39:43
Speaker 4: don't know exactly where that is.
39:45
Speaker 6: Where is.
39:45
Speaker 19: It's in City Park, Sat Aubums off Canal Terrace. You
39:48
Speaker 19: can turn up Vine, go to the stop signed Vier
39:51
Speaker 19: right on Valley Park and just keep going straight up
39:54
Speaker 19: through there. You'll run right into it. We've got a
39:58
Speaker 19: couple of new designs this year. Our guys do a
40:01
Speaker 19: lot of the designing and making of the light displays.
40:06
Speaker 19: Brian Morrison this year did Buddy the Elf, which is
40:10
Speaker 19: going to be new, along with a couple other new features.
40:14
Speaker 8: So it's exciting.
40:15
Speaker 19: It's one of the oldest, it's the thirty sixth annual,
40:19
Speaker 19: one of the best in the state of West Virginia.
40:21
Speaker 19: And to be honest with you, you know what they
40:23
Speaker 19: do over at Gomart Park. In other areas, I think
40:27
Speaker 19: South Charleston's starting something this year up in Little Creek.
40:31
Speaker 19: But it gives people more opportunity to get out and
40:34
Speaker 19: just spend an evening, you know, visiting.
40:37
Speaker 8: The different light shows. Yeah, all out in the area.
40:39
Speaker 4: I talked to my good friend Justin Williams, who has
40:42
Speaker 4: Valley Park over in Tains Valley, right down from where
40:44
Speaker 4: they do, and they they've got a big event going
40:46
Speaker 4: on there. They're all over all over the state. Before
40:48
Speaker 4: I let you go. I want to talk about retail
40:50
Speaker 4: in the city of Saint Albans because I saw something
40:53
Speaker 4: the other day and I'm not going to go off
40:56
Speaker 4: on a rant on this, but somebody posted something about
40:59
Speaker 4: how there's no sh shopping available anywhere in the Charleston
41:01
Speaker 4: area since the town center started suffering. I bet the
41:06
Speaker 4: tongue on that one, because I wanted to say, have
41:08
Speaker 4: you been to some of our municipalities in the area lately?
41:13
Speaker 4: Have you been to downtown Charleston, for example? Have you
41:16
Speaker 4: been to a hurricane where I live? Have you been
41:20
Speaker 4: to Saint Albans. There's a lot, a whole heck of
41:23
Speaker 4: a lot of shopping to be done outside the big
41:26
Speaker 4: box stores with locally owned and operated businesses, and I
41:30
Speaker 4: know that is certainly the case in Saint Albans.
41:32
Speaker 8: It truly is.
41:33
Speaker 19: We've got a ribbon cutting tomorrow on Old Main. Gentleman
41:37
Speaker 19: purchased the building and he's going to have a dog
41:39
Speaker 19: grooming shop, but he's also going to have a couple
41:42
Speaker 19: other shops in there, so we're excited about that. We
41:47
Speaker 19: got the regrand opening of L. Robi's Pezza tomorrow. We're
41:50
Speaker 19: doing a ribbon cutting there. But our Shop's on Old
41:53
Speaker 19: Main and our restaurant. They're unique, they're family owned. And
41:58
Speaker 19: you know what I tell people. I know it's convenient
42:01
Speaker 19: to get on your phone or your computer and order
42:04
Speaker 19: off Amazon, but you know what, Amazon doesn't sponsor a
42:08
Speaker 19: Little League team. Nope, Amazon doesn't make donations two different
42:12
Speaker 19: callses in your community.
42:13
Speaker 8: So guys, shop local, support your local businesses.
42:17
Speaker 19: Unless you can't get something at all throughout this area.
42:22
Speaker 19: You know South Ridge, my goodness, I hate going out
42:25
Speaker 19: there halftime because it's so crowded. They've got a lot
42:28
Speaker 19: of shopping out there. Downtown Charleston, South Charleston, Hurt and
42:32
Speaker 19: all these communities have a lot of family owned businesses
42:36
Speaker 19: and unique shopping experiences that can benefit everybody, all right.
42:41
Speaker 4: Said Almends Mayor Scott James. Always a pleasure having you
42:44
Speaker 4: up here in the Land of the Red Dragons. We'll
42:46
Speaker 4: talk soon. Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
42:47
Speaker 5: Thank you.
42:48
Speaker 4: Let me read this text for you, says as a
42:49
Speaker 4: lifelong Stealer fan, I predicted we would lose to the Browns.
42:53
Speaker 4: We never play well on Thursday nights, and it's payback
42:56
Speaker 4: for me making fun of the cowboys. This easy, says
42:59
Speaker 4: the Texter.
43:00
Speaker 8: Well that's only our third win.
43:01
Speaker 19: But you know when we beat Baltimore, when we beat
43:04
Speaker 19: so I always get my bride and in a little bit,
43:06
Speaker 19: all right.
43:07
Speaker 4: Mayor Scott James, appreciate it. We'll take a break back

45:58
Speaker 4: allow West Virginia American to buy Saint Albans water and
46:00
Speaker 4: sewer systems if citizens enjoy the current services provided heavily
46:04
Speaker 4: consider this move. Once made, the citizens of Saint Albans
46:07
Speaker 4: will be shackled to West Virginian America and their lacking systems. Statewide,
46:11
Speaker 4: Saint Albans residents will now be subsidizing water and sewer
46:13
Speaker 4: projects in all parts of the state via a much
46:16
Speaker 4: larger rate base for systems that are currently well run stable.
46:19
Speaker 4: This usually results in higher bills, less optimal service, and
46:22
Speaker 4: higher shared rate increases more frequently and a higher cost
46:24
Speaker 4: of service than under the current rate designed. Citizens would
46:27
Speaker 4: do well to scrutinize this deal and proceed with caution,
46:29
Speaker 4: says at Textile. Let's bring in Joe stevens Now from
46:32
Speaker 4: the West Virginia Ski Association, a Ski areas association. Joe,
46:36
Speaker 4: good morning, welcome to the show.
46:38
Speaker 5: Good morning, David. Then do you wake up in the
46:40
Speaker 5: middle in the morning just reciting all your copy that
46:44
Speaker 5: you read before or after coming out of the breaks
46:46
Speaker 5: and everything? I mean, my goodness, you don't breathe no.
46:49
Speaker 4: Well, you know, it's sell them. It's all about the money, man,
46:52
Speaker 4: It's all about the money. It's all about the money.
46:55
Speaker 4: And speaking of which, that's a great segue for an
46:57
Speaker 4: old radio guy like yourself to come into is because Joe, well,
47:00
Speaker 4: when we had the snow, and we didn't have a
47:02
Speaker 4: whole lot here in the Kanal Valley perfect snow. As
47:04
Speaker 4: I said with Slango and Shay earlier, I really liked
47:06
Speaker 4: it because it looked pretty but it didn't impact roads
47:08
Speaker 4: or travel. But however, other parts of the state, especially
47:10
Speaker 4: in ski areas, they got hit pretty hard, which is
47:12
Speaker 4: pretty pretty good for the ski industry.
47:16
Speaker 5: Talk about it, oh, without a doubt. And what it
47:18
Speaker 5: really does is it creates top of mine of that
47:22
Speaker 5: winter is right around the corner. It's not here already.
47:24
Speaker 5: And like you said, like here in the Metro Valley
47:27
Speaker 5: area we got a dusting. I'm looking at my office
47:29
Speaker 5: in Nitro right now, I'm seeing snow and the bushes
47:32
Speaker 5: and everything. And it gets people to thinking, wow, they
47:34
Speaker 5: got this much here than what did the mountains get.
47:37
Speaker 5: And they get some ringing the phones at all the
47:39
Speaker 5: resorts from Winter Place in Raleigh County, Snowshoe and Pocahontas County,
47:44
Speaker 5: and then Timberline and Canane over in Tucker County and
47:48
Speaker 5: the various other places that we have. But it gets
47:51
Speaker 5: people thinking. The reports that I got this morning calling
47:53
Speaker 5: around was got about three to four. In beck League,
47:56
Speaker 5: I got four or five and Snowshoe and up to
47:59
Speaker 5: up in the main valley area got about six inches.
48:02
Speaker 5: And David, again, that's really good news. And like you said,
48:06
Speaker 5: we didn't get much. But I tell you what, hats
48:08
Speaker 5: off to Doh because I saw that on the interstate
48:11
Speaker 5: in ONEI sixty four between Scott Depot and Nikro here
48:15
Speaker 5: they were staging, they were pre trading and everything. And
48:18
Speaker 5: up in the up in Pocahontas County and Canaane where
48:21
Speaker 5: they got most of the snow and eating down in Beckley.
48:25
Speaker 5: All the reports I got where the roads were really
48:28
Speaker 5: in good shape, and we find that to be the
48:30
Speaker 5: case throughout the season. We have a motto with the
48:33
Speaker 5: Doh we rather have the snow on the hill than
48:36
Speaker 5: on the roads, and they take good care of that.
48:38
Speaker 5: So yeah, we're in pretty good shape. But like I
48:41
Speaker 5: was telling you on the by email, we do have
48:45
Speaker 5: skiing today in West Virginia as the cross Country Touring
48:51
Speaker 5: Center White Grass Touring Center in Tucker County is open
48:54
Speaker 5: and there's people out on the fifty kilometers of trails
48:58
Speaker 5: right now having some fun.
49:00
Speaker 4: Talk about the impact of the ski industry to West Virginia.
49:03
Speaker 4: We talk about tourism. We know whitewater rafting is a
49:06
Speaker 4: big part of it. We know the hat Fil McCoy Trail,
49:08
Speaker 4: We know just overall hiking and sight seeing is big.
49:11
Speaker 4: But talk about the skiing aspect of it.
49:14
Speaker 5: Well, when you think of the economic impact for tourism
49:17
Speaker 5: across West Virginia, it's almost like lego blocks. Whitewater is
49:21
Speaker 5: one block. Ski industry is another block, mountain biking, fishing, hunting,
49:25
Speaker 5: et cetera. And it all creates a really cool castle
49:28
Speaker 5: of opportunity when it comes to economic impact for the
49:32
Speaker 5: ski industry. When we're up and running, especially around the
49:35
Speaker 5: holiday period and everything, and we remember our season usually
49:37
Speaker 5: goes from the latter part of November to the beginning
49:40
Speaker 5: of April, it's about a quarter of a billion dollar
49:44
Speaker 5: impact to the industry. And that's not only money, you know,
49:47
Speaker 5: being going into the resorts and everything, but that's the
49:50
Speaker 5: folks coming in from Columbus, Ohio to stop in Parkersburg
49:53
Speaker 5: for gas and be heading over over to Canaane Valley,
49:57
Speaker 5: or coming up from Virginia Beach and stopping in in
50:00
Speaker 5: White Sulfur springs for gas before they're heading over to
50:02
Speaker 5: snowshoe and and that sort of thing. So it's a
50:06
Speaker 5: trickle down across the board effect. And we're talking about,
50:09
Speaker 5: you know, somewhere in the neighborhood of five thousand employees
50:12
Speaker 5: when we're all when it's all said and done. But
50:14
Speaker 5: right now, we got snow in the mountains.
50:16
Speaker 4: All right, enjoy it. You're gonna get to go up
50:18
Speaker 4: there any yourself, because I know you're like me. You
50:20
Speaker 4: have about five or six different jobs. So are you
50:22
Speaker 4: going to get to go up anytime soon?
50:25
Speaker 11: No.
50:25
Speaker 5: I'm gonna put the Nitro High School hat on tomorrow
50:28
Speaker 5: and I work with the communications class over at Nitrol
50:33
Speaker 5: High School and we will be doing the streaming of
50:36
Speaker 5: the playoff game between Nitro and Shady Spring. It's a
50:39
Speaker 5: student run operation. They bring an old dog like me
50:42
Speaker 5: in there. Maybe I can teach them a few things.
50:46
Speaker 5: But that's where we'll be tomorrow. It's really great though,
50:49
Speaker 5: that a lot of the high school teams throughout the
50:52
Speaker 5: Kanaal Metro Valley area are in the playoffs now, and
50:55
Speaker 5: thank goodness we are playing football and not playing court.
51:01
Speaker 5: All I got to say about that.
51:02
Speaker 4: Good way to leave it, Joe, we'll talk again soon.
51:04
Speaker 3: Man.
51:05
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, go cowboy.
