Today, haunted places here in Brevard, the movies that still give you nightmares, and a big local event that's happening on Saturday. I'll be out there emceeing, So that's what's happening on the show. Let's just jump into Have you ever seen a ghost? Supernatural Encounters? Answer is yes, yes, and yes. My husband doesn't believe. Have you heard about the restaurant Ashley's? Every time it's spooky season, people always want to go to Ashley's restaurant because it's haunted. historically, it's been like on all these different shows that, you know, you know, ghost encounters, things like that. You know, the shows that love to go back and check out restaurants that are haunted. Well, the building is said to be haunted by a spirit of a local woman who was found murdered near the Indian River back in 1934. Her name? Ethel Allen. Ethel was a regular back then when it was called Jack's Tavern. So they're saying that the place is haunted by Ethel. So we're gonna say why we think it's true. And I say we as my husband and I. so I told my husband like, hey, you know, let's go to Ashley's. It's haunted. You're gonna love it. He's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. So we went there for lunch. So we went upstairs. He looked at the restaurant. He's like, it's cool place. So we're having lunch. Everything's like that. He took off his hat because he always wears a baseball cap. And he put it right there next to him on the chair. And we're having lunch. We're having a good time, good conversation. Food was delicious. And then we left. Literally went walked down the stairs. And as we're walking into the parking lot, he turns around and says, I forgot my hat. Okay. He went right back upstairs. Not even five minutes later, he went back upstairs. The table wasn't cleared yet. The server didn't even pick up the check yet, because we put down the money on there. She didn't pick it up just yet. I mean, literally, that's how quick we turned around. His hat was gone. It wasn't because someone took it, cause literally we're the only ones that left and came right back in. So we asked the server, she's like, no, I didn't see it. We ask everyone around, no, I didn't see And I told my husband, because he was making fun of the ghost, the ghost took his hat. That's what I believe. We didn't even like no one else left the restaurant. We were the first ones out after we took the check and went back upstairs. Literally didn't even leave, not even five minutes. Hat was gone. I told my husband, see, that's what you get for playing with ghosts. So you said it wasn't haunted? Ethel took his hat. At least that's what I believe. We still talk about it to this day. Yeah, the ghost Ethel at Ashley's restaurant in Rockledge stole my husband's hat for making fun of her, saying that there was not a ghost there. So have you ever had a ghost encounter or something supernatural, especially here in Brevard County, because we have so many places here in Brevard that are haunted. We want to know from you. The report also shows old school treats like circus peanuts and lemonheads are coming back. Now, talking about the worst candy, candy corn at number one, which I love corn, and circus peanuts candy. Kenny Chesney, one of my favorites, is hitting the road again next year for his original vibe room tour. Things kick off on April twenty fourth in Tampa. Why can't anything be like in Melbourne? And that's it for Mindy's Minute. Let's check what's trending. You know what's trending? Halloween movies, right? Let's talk about scary movies. Are you a fan or are you not a fan? Before we get to that scary list, because we do have the top scary movies on our list. how about TV shows about witches? Now we want to throw this in there because some people don't like scary movies, but they like to watch TV shows. So Cafe Mom listed what movies to watch if you're into witches. For example, practical magic. I haven't seen part two yet. My husband and I daring to see it. But my husband, I actually do really like Practical Magic. And we watch it over and over again. We love that movie. Actually, yes, it's a movie. But then they're listing it on TV shows or movies. So Wednesday, Wicked, a Discovery of Witches, Charmed. That's a good one. The Craft and True Blood. True Blood was also one of my favorite shows back in the day. So that's the list if you are in a witchy mood for Halloween. Let's talk about scary movies of all time. What's your pick? Give us at least your top three in the comments. According to Study Point, The Exorcist from 1973 and Sinister from 2012 are the scariest movies of all time. To this day, anytime Linda Blair comes up on the screen on the Ed Exorcist, I cover my eyes. There's no way. Mm-mm. Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm. To this day, I'm a grown woman. I still can't watch the whole thing. It's scary, and I still agree agree, it's number one. Also on the list, The Conjuring from 2013. I do agree, such a good scary movie. The Shining back in 1980. It's nothing like Jack Nicholson in that one. And the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in 1974. They did a ton of remakes, but if you really watched the 1974 one, it's scary and it's spooky. So we want to know from you. How about The scariest movie of all time. Give us your top three in the comments and we'll share them next week, just in time for Halloween. And that's what's trending. Let's talk about local events. There's one big local event that we really want to talk about because I'll be hosting that, and it's happening on Saturday. And we're talking about the making strides against breast cancer right here in Brevard. It's gonna be at the Avenue Viera, right behind Belks, and it's gonna be on Saturday, October twenty-fourth. I am so honored to be emceeing this walk. I've been doing it for what, twenty something years? I think when it when it first happened, when it first started. So we gotta talk about over twenty years. And put on your pink. It doesn't matter who you are, where you are, where you're from, everyone is welcome to come out because we are honoring our breast cancer survivors. We are honoring people that we've lost, people that we love, people that are going through it. And we do have a survivor tribute on stage that there will not be a dry eye in the entire place. I'm just telling you that right now. So get ready for that. We have a survivor breakfast. So bring the whole family. We are gonna have a huge festival area, pink giveaways, face painting. complimentary beverages, healthy snacks. It's just a day of everyone coming together and celebrating. And that's gonna be this Saturday, October 24th, Avenue Viera behind Belks. It's never too late to sign up. the pictures are on screen and we just have such a great time. Really do. It's music and fun and people coming out and it's an incredible day. Actually incredible morning. It steps off at nine, by the way, but the village opens at 7 30. The announcements I start at 7 30, but get there early because of parking, things like that. So it kicks off at 9 a.m. for the walk. Don't be late because we're gonna have such a great time. And that's what the big event is happening this weekend in Brevard. Now let's talk about our local feel-good story of the day. One of our local girl is hitting in Hollywood by storm. And she actually was at the walk with me. She sang the national anthem a few years ago. And we're going to show you the picture here in just a few minutes. She's just an amazing little girl. Her mom is amazing. They do a lot of things in the community for charity. And our local feel-good story has to do with local girl, Ella Grace Helton. She is on a news show with actor Matthew McConaughey on Apple TV called Brothers. She Just came back as Katie Townsend in the fifth season of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. And in the show Brothers, she plays McConaughey's daughter, Clara. The show follows McConaughey and Woody Harrison. If you don't know, they're like best friends. So they decided to see if they might be brothers because they're just so alike, apparently. Ella Grace just released a short film called Baby Angel that was shown on October 17th at the Melbourne Independent Film Festival. Which was at the Premier Theater Oaks in Melbourne. And congratulations to her. She's just an amazing little girl. I say little girl, but she's like a teen now. She was this high. she loves wearing like bedazzled boots. She just is just a sweet girl. She really is. And that is our local feel-good story of the day. Let's talk about the hack of the day. I'm really into salads now. I don't know why. It's like soup and salad. Maybe it's the season. Maybe it's the weather. I don't know. But I try to find like really good salads at different places. And if I could pair it up with a soup, I don't know what is. But salads are like my thing now. But when I make it at home, you know how the salad, the lettuce gets like wilted after a couple of days and you're trying to get fresh cut salad because like it's like a Greek salad is so good. especially if they put like the salami and the ham and the turkey on it. Mm. And with the you're making me hungry. With the Greek dressing and the feta cheese. So I like to make it at home, but like I said, the lettuce sometimes gets wilted. So I found this hack online. Put a paper towel in with the lettuce and any fresh herbs that you have, and apparently it absorbs the moisture, so your lettuce is always fresh and it lasts longer. Quick hack like that. Kinda simple, stupid, right? I want to try it. We'll see if it works. Song of the day. Now, this pick is because of our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Brevard Walk on Saturday. Fight Song by Rachel Platton. It's a great song to put on your playlist for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, for the walk on Saturday, or for any time. It's an inspirational song. And it could be for anything. Whatever you're fighting, whatever you're going through, the song just cuts deep and it's just a great song to share with anybody. Or just by yourself if you need a really good song. That is the song. Of the day. Fight song by Rachel Platton. and before we get to shout-outs, there is one thing I want to throw in here: recipes. I know it's that time of the year where it's Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all these different things come up for recipes. And I thought this was really cute for Halloween, and it's simple and easy. So, you know those hot dogs that have cheese in them? You know, kids love to eat them. If you get like those crescent rolls and cut them into strips, and I saw this from delish.com. So you take the crescent rolls, you cut them in little strips, you get the hot dogs, right? And you wrap them around the hot dogs. Dog and bake them. They look like mummy dogs. And that'd be perfect for your Halloween party or if the kids are coming over something cute. And then you could make the ketchup and the mustard into like a spider web into a bowl so people can just dip it in. So you won't even need a bun. So you get the hot dogs with the cheese in it, crescent rolls that are already pre-done. Just once you open the can, you cut them up in strips, wrap them to make it look like a mummy put them in the oven, and it's done. Quick and easy. And if you have a recipe you want to share with us when it comes to Halloween, We would love to hear from you. Or if you do some really cool tricks and tips and things like that, do it yourself. We'd love to get a list and put it in the comments. recipes definitely, because you know, Halloween's just around the corner. You can post it in the comments. Shout outs. Let's give some shout outs today. Last week, the question was the number one Halloween costume this year is Dolly Parton. Did you like the blonde wig? It was different, right? I don't think I ever saw myself as a blonde. But a shout out to Denise, Teresa, and Martha for putting the comments in there about my Halloween costume and being that it is gonna be Dolly Parton this year. Also, big thank you to Kevin, Kathleen, and Mariella, and Kim for watching on Facebook and YouTube. Appreciate you guys for supporting the show and the podcast. And that does it.
