- 0:48Speaker 1: So how did Mac look? He was not there? No,
- 0:52Speaker 1: he I just can't believe this, it happens. Let maybe
- 0:54Speaker 1: the first one to say it, not a team player
- 0:56Speaker 1: who doesn't want it. And I promise you, but the
- 0:58Speaker 1: x NFL quarterback was not Scott zol Wow. What circles
- 1:02Speaker 1: are you running with? Parilla? What's going on here? You
- 1:04Speaker 1: can't tell, Babe, Parilli. At times we've seen Bill take
- 1:07Speaker 1: out the hose, put that away. Press commence went from
- 1:11Speaker 1: ten and a half to nine and a half. You
- 1:13Speaker 1: could because Matt could play. I think I saw that
- 1:15Speaker 1: it might have moved last night. Actually, when I'm in
- 1:17Speaker 1: the middle of a start, you have the type rope
- 1:21Speaker 1: surgery into the wide zone and Fred playing the role
- 1:30Speaker 1: of Pau. Wow. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Dunking.
- 1:37Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:41Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium. So we're officially at our last show
- 1:45Speaker 1: of the week. We're gonna do our picks, our final
- 1:49Speaker 1: ruminations about the week that has that was, and the
- 1:53Speaker 1: week the weekend to be, so lots to talk about.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Um and of course, uh, mac Watch mac Watches number
- 2:01Speaker 1: one continues to uh, I mean we were led to
- 2:04Speaker 1: continues to be a story that he could play Sunday
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah on the Twitter machine. Are you buying it? I'm not. No,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm not either. And I think if he plays, it's crazy,
- 2:14Speaker 1: like like what are we doing? I mean, it might
- 2:16Speaker 1: upset me more if he plays. Yeah, really yeah, why
- 2:19Speaker 1: would you be upset because of his reaction on his
- 2:22Speaker 1: last Sunday Wow. But you never know, you know, the
- 2:25Speaker 1: pain could have been excruciating, And but he still plays.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think if he plays, it's the legend of Mac grows.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He's got to play well, like he's like, hey, he
- 2:34Speaker 1: played on one leg and he was terrible, isn't he great? Really?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Are just different now, No, I mean, especially if he
- 2:41Speaker 1: wins the game on one angle and ah, oh god,
- 2:44Speaker 1: it's not gonna happen. The toughest quarterback in the NFL,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I stand by it. I still make fun of Paul Pierce.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They won that game. I still make fun of Paul
- 2:51Speaker 1: Pierce to this day. Great great Celtic won the championship.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I still laugh at him and mock him for going
- 2:57Speaker 1: off the court in a in a wheelchair. Now you're consistent.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We got a pre you with it last year with
- 3:00Speaker 1: Barmore when he went off with that knee injury and
- 3:02Speaker 1: was rolling around. It was grab at him. I let
- 3:04Speaker 1: him out of my dogofs, but I was mad at him. Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Here's where I'll give Matt credit. He didn't start bawling
- 3:10Speaker 1: until he got down the stairs. He hopped off on
- 3:13Speaker 1: his own. Worse, No, he hopped off on his own
- 3:17Speaker 1: without any help. All the way down there, no help.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It's hard to do hop no help. He looks ready
- 3:22Speaker 1: for hard to hop with help. Well, he I'm telling you,
- 3:26Speaker 1: he wouldn't take the help. He's like, let me get
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's like the hockey play. The tough hockey players, they
- 3:31Speaker 1: skate off. They don't they don't get help. They skate
- 3:33Speaker 1: off and they come back. It's a little different. It
- 3:35Speaker 1: isn't yes the pucks and play in hockey like you. No, no,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I can't just like stitch me up rolling, you know.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Now it's a little different now they try to play
- 3:45Speaker 1: up those board plays. You know. Yeah, I got hit
- 3:50Speaker 1: a little back going on now in hockey. But anyway, No,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Ma's a tough guy, tough mother. I don't think anybody
- 3:57Speaker 1: said any different now, but if he plays on Sunday,
- 3:59Speaker 1: people will say different. He's definitely tough. But I'm just personally,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm just really kind of over this, Like I just
- 4:07Speaker 1: I just want to know, like what like it just
- 4:09Speaker 1: would be. I'd have such a clear sense if he
- 4:12Speaker 1: just could. You know, all right, he's gonna be out
- 4:13Speaker 1: for a few weeks or I mean the perfect world
- 4:15Speaker 1: be not perfect world, but go on, I are like,
- 4:17Speaker 1: all right, we know we're not gonna have him. We're
- 4:19Speaker 1: gonna rally around Hoyer. I mean, they brought Howyer out
- 4:22Speaker 1: yesterday to do the you know, do the weekly press conference,
- 4:25Speaker 1: so you know, they're tipping their hand a little bit,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I feel like with that stuff. Um but I I
- 4:31Speaker 1: just it's just unfortunate with the start that they've had
- 4:33Speaker 1: and kind of the storylines that have been you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: drummed out. Man. Now it's like this next level to
- 4:38Speaker 1: it with all this Max stuff. It's just it's exhausting.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You just want to watch the team and analyze the
- 4:43Speaker 1: team and figure out how they're playing and what they
- 4:45Speaker 1: need to do to be better. Um but right now
- 4:47Speaker 1: you're just so caught up in and all this stuff
- 4:49Speaker 1: of Mac and the injury and is he gonna play?
- 4:51Speaker 1: And you know, I feel like there's just no real
- 4:54Speaker 1: attention being paid to like the actual game and to
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, what the Patriots need to do to win it,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and and you know where they stand right now and
- 5:02Speaker 1: what they're looking at with Detroit and Cleveland coming up, like,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know, those things I feel like are kind of
- 5:07Speaker 1: by the wayside right right now at the moment. Unfortunately. Yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: I mean our scouting of the team has been sort
- 5:13Speaker 1: of halted a little bit. You know, it's like now
- 5:15Speaker 1: it's like, okay, you're not seeing the complete version of
- 5:18Speaker 1: the team, but like we said the other day, Like
- 5:20Speaker 1: for us, you know, because we're more astute observers of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the team, I think it'll be interesting to see not Hoyer,
- 5:28Speaker 1: but the rest of the team and you know, offense
- 5:31Speaker 1: and see how they do. You know, with a guy
- 5:32Speaker 1: who he can run the offense. He may not get
- 5:35Speaker 1: the ball there, you know, but let's see how the
- 5:39Speaker 1: offense functions with another quarterback. Yeah. I thought it was interesting.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Hoyer yesterday in his press conference, they asked him about them.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I think it was Tommy Curran asked him about the
- 5:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty game and the circumstances of that, and I
- 5:50Speaker 1: thought it was interesting, Hoyer said. You know, I when
- 5:53Speaker 1: Cam go covid, I was thinking I had COVID because
- 5:55Speaker 1: I had been in the room with them the whole day.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Not only was it the lack of preparation, but it
- 6:00Speaker 1: just puts a little bit of context on you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: that performance and how kind of unique. Okay until he
- 6:04Speaker 1: got into the red zone. Yeah right, yeah, And that's
- 6:07Speaker 1: and that's why it's like, all right, can he play
- 6:09Speaker 1: just well enough to see what this offense might look
- 6:11Speaker 1: like without three turnovers at the end of the game
- 6:13Speaker 1: that that kill you. You know, like, like I mean,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it might be asking a lot of him not to
- 6:17Speaker 1: turn the ball over with this defense, and you know
- 6:19Speaker 1: how good they are upfront and disruptive and all that.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But I mean, I'm definitely interested to see, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: just kind of how a different quarterback looks in this
- 6:27Speaker 1: We've been spending so much time talking about this offense
- 6:29Speaker 1: and and you know the changes and all that, Like
- 6:31Speaker 1: all right, well let's you know, let's get another sample
- 6:33Speaker 1: with Brian Hoyer and see how he kind of looks.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, it very well might look not good. Brian
- 6:39Speaker 1: hoy is gonna look like Brian Hoyer. You know. I'm
- 6:42Speaker 1: just make some throws, miss some through I mean there
- 6:44Speaker 1: are sometimes I remember he definitely made throws in camp,
- 6:46Speaker 1: but there's a few I remember looking at you, Paul,
- 6:48Speaker 1: like with someone like whoa, you know, airmail just like
- 6:50Speaker 1: coming in hot fifteen feet high. I think it'd be fine.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm not really worried about Brian Hoyer in the game.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm worried about pretty much everything else. Um, But that's
- 7:00Speaker 1: like I don't feel all that different, you know, And
- 7:03Speaker 1: I kind of agree with Mike said it's unfortunate that
- 7:05Speaker 1: all we're talking about is is mac Jones gonna play?
- 7:08Speaker 1: When is he going to play? How long is he
- 7:10Speaker 1: going to be out? I mean, and I get that
- 7:12Speaker 1: that's what Bill wants because he wants there to be uncertainty.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think I think he wants Green Bay to be
- 7:18Speaker 1: thinking about it. Well, I was talking to somebody on
- 7:21Speaker 1: the inside and I was, you know, saying, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: they're just making it a bigger story than it needs
- 7:27Speaker 1: to be. And you know, why why can't they just
- 7:29Speaker 1: say he's gonna miss some time? And you know that's
- 7:32Speaker 1: no Never the more you you can't win when you're
- 7:36Speaker 1: talking about injuries. The less you say, the better. Oh,
- 7:40Speaker 1: why are they talking about it so much? Always I
- 7:42Speaker 1: would agree with that, Yeah, but why are they talking
- 7:44Speaker 1: about it so much? Who is? I can give you
- 7:47Speaker 1: the first twelve minutes of the press conference just today
- 7:49Speaker 1: was all about the injuries. I know, but Bill is
- 7:51Speaker 1: to point to Mike's point, if you do what Mike says,
- 7:55Speaker 1: you got no talk about injuries. Well, well, I don't
- 7:58Speaker 1: know about that, but I'm he Bill is refusing to
- 8:01Speaker 1: talk about it. Did you watch the same press conference
- 8:04Speaker 1: that I did? Yeah, when he said day by day
- 8:07Speaker 1: like twelve times, I think Mike Reas called that's refusing
- 8:10Speaker 1: to talk about the injury, that he's those are questions
- 8:13Speaker 1: about the injury. He's talking about it, but he didn't
- 8:15Speaker 1: ask the questions. Well, obviously, but if he tells you
- 8:18Speaker 1: that he's not gonna play, no, one's gonna ask him
- 8:20Speaker 1: about the injury. That's it over. But then they said,
- 8:22Speaker 1: well when Willie? But then Green Bay would know he's
- 8:24Speaker 1: not gonna play. No. But then then this Mike's point
- 8:27Speaker 1: about putting him on IR eliminates it for four weeks.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Well okay, but maybe they think, you know, I'm just
- 8:35Speaker 1: talking about the players that are on the team. Yeah, bingo,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and that's it. There's no more questions about Mac Jones's
- 8:41Speaker 1: injury for at least three of those weeks. So you're
- 8:43Speaker 1: saying that anybody ask about Tai Kwon Thornton this week,
- 8:46Speaker 1: by the way, no, or Lawrence Guy. Well, I'm more
- 8:49Speaker 1: concerned about Tae Kwon Thornton because can't he start practicing
- 8:52Speaker 1: now after what four games? After this one? I think
- 8:56Speaker 1: he can play out for four games. I think he
- 8:57Speaker 1: can practice this week. Yeah, I'm not sure. Nobody asked,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but he wasn't out there anyway, right, because EV would
- 9:02Speaker 1: have said that, Yeah, maybe I don't know, maybe that's changing.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Maybe with the change in that maybe you no longer
- 9:09Speaker 1: can practice, But I thought you could practice the week
- 9:12Speaker 1: before and then that starts the clock as to win,
- 9:16Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I don't know. No, these rules seem
- 9:19Speaker 1: to that this minor tweaks to these rules all the time. Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: so maybe he has to wait another week before you
- 9:26Speaker 1: can stop practicing. But you know, in terms of putting
- 9:29Speaker 1: him an IR or not, that's where if truly he's
- 9:33Speaker 1: gonna miss four games, it makes no sense to not
- 9:36Speaker 1: put him an ir R, you know, because you're just
- 9:40Speaker 1: wasting around. And I get that they might not know
- 9:42Speaker 1: that he's going to miss from games. I'm not I'm
- 9:44Speaker 1: just using as an example, right, So, like, I mean,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm sure they don't care. But I mean, all we're
- 9:49Speaker 1: talking about now is the relationship between the team and
- 9:53Speaker 1: the player. How tough Mac actually is. Is he stupid
- 9:56Speaker 1: for trying to push it? You know? Does he not
- 9:58Speaker 1: want to get surgery? Does he want to get surgery?
- 10:00Speaker 1: Like you know, like like it's just pushing them, They
- 10:03Speaker 1: pushing him. This is all we're talking about. We're in caps.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I mean it's completely enveloped into mac Jones's ankle. That's
- 10:10Speaker 1: all this week is about. And I just can't imagine
- 10:13Speaker 1: it would be like that if you give him some clarity, yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: And I just I don't see how how the situation
- 10:22Speaker 1: is currently set up. Max's gonna come out looking good
- 10:26Speaker 1: in this situation, whether he comes back too soon, whether
- 10:29Speaker 1: he comes back too late, like everybody's going to have
- 10:31Speaker 1: an opinion about it. Whereas and I just think because
- 10:34Speaker 1: they don't change that they take this to the next
- 10:36Speaker 1: level and they have him in uniform on the field
- 10:39Speaker 1: today or tomorrow. I was wondering about that, like, I
- 10:43Speaker 1: think there's a chance because I think that they're all
- 10:45Speaker 1: in on this ruse. I really do. I think they're
- 10:48Speaker 1: all in. And again I'll keep saying it. If he
- 10:51Speaker 1: plays on Sunday, I will sit here and tell you
- 10:54Speaker 1: I was wrong. I didn't think he was going to
- 10:55Speaker 1: play on Sunday. I'm telling you flat out, I don't
- 10:58Speaker 1: think he's gonna play Sunday. So I'm not telling you
- 11:00Speaker 1: that If he plays, then all of this is all
- 11:05Speaker 1: move Like I was wrong. I didn't think there was
- 11:07Speaker 1: any chance he was. I don't think he's gonna play either,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you know, But I mean it just seems crazy, Like
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean, I know it, it looked bad, but I
- 11:15Speaker 1: just have seen them do these kinds of things too
- 11:17Speaker 1: many times before for me to think that he's gonna play,
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's all. And it's a severe high ankle spring, like
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, I get like push pretty pretty to do
- 11:24Speaker 1: it pretty Sorry, didn't mean to go all the way
- 11:26Speaker 1: to too severe, not really severe, but I mean I
- 11:30Speaker 1: see get pushing Gronk to play in the Super What
- 11:32Speaker 1: else you gotta wait for? You don't really have an option,
- 11:35Speaker 1: but this is like you know, and we're just all
- 11:37Speaker 1: cut up, like I don't think we know what actually
- 11:40Speaker 1: the story is, who what real Mac really wants? How
- 11:42Speaker 1: Mac really feels right now, like you know, and and
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, if you're really gonna look at this quarterback
- 11:47Speaker 1: as a long term option here, like you know, making
- 11:49Speaker 1: sure that that when these things happen, that we know
- 11:52Speaker 1: the drill and how we handle them together. And I
- 11:55Speaker 1: don't know, I just it's it's it was hard for
- 11:57Speaker 1: me to watch that press conference on Monday, because I
- 11:59Speaker 1: just I my impression of it was just that he
- 12:02Speaker 1: should he should not be doing this right now he
- 12:04Speaker 1: should not be talking. He should be going, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: taking care of himself and worrying about that and let
- 12:08Speaker 1: the team, you know, take the bullets for him or
- 12:11Speaker 1: so to speak, and let him get healthy and not
- 12:13Speaker 1: you know, being faced with all these questions of what's
- 12:15Speaker 1: really going on with them? Yeah, well, um, but that's
- 12:19Speaker 1: what everyone's talking about. Yeah, for better or worse. Five
- 12:24Speaker 1: five hundred is the eighth ticket hotline. Web radio at
- 12:27Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address. Um. And and yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 1: the game itself has taken a back seat to all
- 12:34Speaker 1: of this. Uh, I mean we talked about it. Green
- 12:38Speaker 1: Bay offense is sputtering. Um, it's a lot of young
- 12:42Speaker 1: guys with Aaron Rodgers. The running game is doing well.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But their defense I think so far has been their story.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, they've been They've been fun to kind
- 12:53Speaker 1: of watch, you know, when you get these new players
- 12:55Speaker 1: you haven't really seen in a while, and um, yeah,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I mean I think that they're uh you know again,
- 13:00Speaker 1: it's it's just I keep flashing back to the Castle
- 13:03Speaker 1: season when you know it's so established what Brady was
- 13:06Speaker 1: and oh eight and you're coming off Super Bowl forty
- 13:08Speaker 1: two and you're like, we got everybody kind of back,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, and then all of the castle comes in
- 13:12Speaker 1: and it just it just changes your whole perspective on
- 13:14Speaker 1: the season. And you know, I think at least with
- 13:17Speaker 1: Brady's injury, when that happened, in a way, you knew
- 13:19Speaker 1: he was gone for the whole year, so you just
- 13:20Speaker 1: adjusted your expectations to you know, what you were going
- 13:23Speaker 1: to see over the course of the year. And now
- 13:24Speaker 1: it's like, I think we're hitting the pause button on Mac,
- 13:27Speaker 1: like I think we're gonna I don't really know for
- 13:29Speaker 1: sure how long this could possibly be. I mean, it
- 13:31Speaker 1: could be eight weeks. Somebody. People are speculating he could
- 13:34Speaker 1: play this weekend, you know, So I don't really know.
- 13:37Speaker 1: And I also wonder how the players feel about this too,
- 13:39Speaker 1: as like a player going into a game where you
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, don't know if you're best player, may or
- 13:43Speaker 1: may not play, and there's all these kind of antics
- 13:46Speaker 1: going on behind the sideline. I don't know. I just
- 13:48Speaker 1: I'm I'm struggling. You can probably tell well, you sent
- 13:52Speaker 1: around your round table questions today, yeah for us to answer,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and they'll be out tomorrow. On the way. One of
- 13:58Speaker 1: the questions I was going to ask you if you
- 13:59Speaker 1: want to to reward that one. It was if Brian
- 14:02Speaker 1: Hoyer starts, what will that say about the team or why? Yeah?
- 14:06Speaker 1: And I was like, what, it's just kind of what
- 14:08Speaker 1: Mac Jones is hurt? That's what I thought it was.
- 14:10Speaker 1: What would you expect? No, it's it's what would it
- 14:13Speaker 1: say about the team? Well, I guess what expect was
- 14:16Speaker 1: kind of what I mean. I guess how Paul read
- 14:18Speaker 1: it was what I was getting. I just you know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: what's your what's your new mindset of the team with
- 14:22Speaker 1: with Brian Hoyer under center? And you know, how do
- 14:24Speaker 1: you read that wrong? I think, what? Yeah, I'm gonna
- 14:27Speaker 1: look it up and I apologize. I'll be clear on
- 14:29Speaker 1: those next time. I mean, that's a tough it's a
- 14:31Speaker 1: tough thing to dance around. Why apologize? Oh yeah, no,
- 14:35Speaker 1: Fred's right, Yeah, bad kind of Brian Hoyer starting? Mean
- 14:40Speaker 1: for the Patriots? What would it mean? It means that
- 14:43Speaker 1: Mac is hurt? Yeah, I answered it. I answered it
- 14:46Speaker 1: based on the way I thought he meant it. Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 1: not like not literally like that you speak to see
- 14:52Speaker 1: I do I speak to But I mean that's you know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: what what what how do you how do you change
- 14:57Speaker 1: your outlook on things. And you know that's why it's like,
- 14:59Speaker 1: all right, it was gonna be four weeks to say, okay,
- 15:02Speaker 1: let's get let's get two wins. You know, can we
- 15:04Speaker 1: get two wins out of this this little bunch right
- 15:06Speaker 1: here that he's gonna have to play with the Lions
- 15:08Speaker 1: and the Browns and the Jets. Like, I don't think
- 15:10Speaker 1: that that's a lot to ask. But you know, as
- 15:12Speaker 1: they said to Paul, I don't know about this Packers
- 15:14Speaker 1: game because it's Aaron Rodgers. But you know, going forward,
- 15:18Speaker 1: like the Lions, the Browns, the Jets, those are games
- 15:20Speaker 1: that the Patriots would win even with a Matt Castle
- 15:23Speaker 1: backup quarterback. You know, like they may not beat the
- 15:26Speaker 1: good teams. And I don't know how good or bad,
- 15:29Speaker 1: but I think this is a little bit of a
- 15:31Speaker 1: new perspective on where the Patriots are just as far
- 15:36Speaker 1: as I mean, I think we all felt like, all right,
- 15:38Speaker 1: when the other team is bad and plays bad, this
- 15:40Speaker 1: team is well enough coached and avoids enough mistakes that
- 15:43Speaker 1: they usually win. But in the past, I don't know
- 15:44Speaker 1: if that's the case anymore. So you know, I think
- 15:48Speaker 1: in some ways, maybe the lack of the talk about
- 15:50Speaker 1: the Packers is just kind of people being like, we're
- 15:52Speaker 1: gonna go to let Lambeau. They're probably gonna play hard
- 15:55Speaker 1: and probably stick around for a little while, but ultimately
- 15:58Speaker 1: they're probably not just gonna have the is to you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: compete with a quarterback like that, with a defense and
- 16:03Speaker 1: you know whereas you know, can you say the same
- 16:06Speaker 1: thing about the Lions, like, I don't, I don't think so.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I mean, I think you're going to the Lions, even
- 16:10Speaker 1: with Brian Hoyer, like they need to win this game,
- 16:12Speaker 1: especially if they're dropped to one and three, they will
- 16:15Speaker 1: need to. But I'm telling you I didn't pencil in
- 16:18Speaker 1: any of these games with Mac, so I'm certainly not
- 16:21Speaker 1: going to pencil amid. I mean expect to win without Max.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I mean I penciled in Detroit and Chicago with Mac.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I think Detroit is kind of a that's that that's
- 16:31Speaker 1: more in question. That's a game that they should win.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Chicago unequivocally is a game that has to be won.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Chicago is one of the worst one or two teams
- 16:39Speaker 1: in the league. They won't even let their quarterback even
- 16:41Speaker 1: try to throw the ball. Yeah, because they're they're definitely
- 16:45Speaker 1: afraid of him getting killed. So if you have that
- 16:48Speaker 1: bad of a team around him that you can't even
- 16:49Speaker 1: allow him to throw twenty passes in an NFL game,
- 16:52Speaker 1: and somehow they two win one doing that, that's the
- 16:54Speaker 1: most embarrassing part, you know. So I don't know, that's
- 16:58Speaker 1: a few weeks down the road, but I agree with Fred.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I mean, I think you don't know exactly what you
- 17:05Speaker 1: are yet, right, and if they play offense like they
- 17:09Speaker 1: did Sunday against Baltimore, that will be enough I think
- 17:13Speaker 1: to be you know, a middling to a bad team,
- 17:16Speaker 1: because A, I think you won't turn it over as
- 17:19Speaker 1: many times against a bad team as you did Sunday,
- 17:22Speaker 1: And B I think if you were able to score
- 17:25Speaker 1: like that and make a bad team chase you, I
- 17:28Speaker 1: think that you'll be able to beat a bad team.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So that's where it kind of changes. But if it's
- 17:33Speaker 1: all the exact same and you continue to turn it
- 17:36Speaker 1: over three or four times, you're gonna lose to anybody. Yep.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Not a lot of teams can can get away with
- 17:42Speaker 1: turning it over four times in winning, especially like that,
- 17:44Speaker 1: like three in the fourth quarter, for you know, all
- 17:47Speaker 1: of them in the second half of the game on
- 17:49Speaker 1: the line. That's I mean, if they do that to
- 17:51Speaker 1: Detroit and give Detroit extra possessions, their offense has been
- 17:54Speaker 1: pretty good. They'll find a way the other. Like the
- 17:58Speaker 1: green Bay thing, Like you remember that, the whole Kansas
- 18:00Speaker 1: City situation. You know, Kansas City's was, if not the best,
- 18:04Speaker 1: they were one of the best teams in football that season,
- 18:07Speaker 1: Like you know at that point, and now you find out,
- 18:11Speaker 1: you know, Cam's not even playing. The Patriots are down.
- 18:14Speaker 1: It was a big let down for them. They played
- 18:16Speaker 1: like like they weren't even really there for half of
- 18:19Speaker 1: that game. You're not going to get that. I don't
- 18:21Speaker 1: think with green Bay. Green Bay is not good enough
- 18:23Speaker 1: to do that. They have all new guys trying to
- 18:26Speaker 1: figure it out. They're trying to figure out what they are.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I don't think they're overly concerned about what you are.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Did you happen to see Matt Lafloor, by the way,
- 18:32Speaker 1: talking about Brian Hoyer. No, watch these cut ups of
- 18:36Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer and you see these players, You think he
- 18:38Speaker 1: was one of the best quarterbacks in the league. And
- 18:40Speaker 1: Bill just said respect respects got all three of his plays. Yeah, Well,
- 18:48Speaker 1: like we said, he'sze eleven and his last eleven starts
- 18:51Speaker 1: they were you know, what was it, six seven years
- 18:53Speaker 1: ago at Cleveland he had a little bit counting the playoffs. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:57Speaker 1: he had a little bit of a stretch there. He did,
- 18:59Speaker 1: he had and he had a street. He's a thirteen fourteen, fifteen.
- 19:02Speaker 1: He was a winning quarterback. Good example of what we said,
- 19:05Speaker 1: if everything's perfect for any guy in this league, they
- 19:08Speaker 1: can succeed. He's including him. He knows how to run
- 19:11Speaker 1: an offense. He knows how to be a quarterback, and
- 19:14Speaker 1: that's what I would expect, you know, I would expect
- 19:17Speaker 1: him to be to be decent. Yeah, he knows what
- 19:20Speaker 1: he's doing back there. He's not you know, somebody who's
- 19:23Speaker 1: lost in the lights. Yeah, he knows what he's doing. No,
- 19:26Speaker 1: it was good. It was good to hear from him.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think he's Um. He's a really likable guy. I mean,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I know he's got a little bit of an edge
- 19:31Speaker 1: to him, but um, but he was a good sport.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Is that for me? Guy's throwing the AXL questions out,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'm like, oh god, you know, in the middle of
- 19:37Speaker 1: the press conference, one of the you know, one of
- 19:39Speaker 1: the big one of the big the big news reporters.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I always love when those guys come down because you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: there's major news. And he was like, did anybody ask
- 19:45Speaker 1: He came in late, and he was like, you know, um,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think he was talking to Alan Siegel, like anyone
- 19:49Speaker 1: to ask about actually, you know, like and they're like
- 19:51Speaker 1: talking in the middle of like a news reporter was breathless,
- 19:53Speaker 1: wondering if anybody asked him about Axel and that's news
- 19:56Speaker 1: and then Alan and then Alan was like, no, I
- 19:58Speaker 1: didn't just I mean, I just said hello Axel and
- 20:01Speaker 1: he responded, oh, thanks, Mattha. And then the news reporter guy,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I think it was Duke. You know it was where
- 20:07Speaker 1: Axel cover time? Duke. Yeah, okay, he's a sports guy.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sorry I miss misdescribed him initially,
- 20:15Speaker 1: but yeah, I thought it was like a Byron Barnett
- 20:17Speaker 1: coming down. Mike, you're not you're not a Capital Jake journalist.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Please step aside and let the real reporters bill. What
- 20:24Speaker 1: would you say to the fans who demands to know? Right? Well,
- 20:27Speaker 1: that was like a Brown Antonio Brown. I know. Well
- 20:30Speaker 1: that's why I was waiting for it for I mean,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I thought that the big guy was down here, like
- 20:33Speaker 1: he's coming down to ask about I love when the
- 20:35Speaker 1: news reporters come down, show us how it's done. Mac
- 20:38Speaker 1: Jones injury, and they never get it done. They never
- 20:41Speaker 1: get it done. They come in they you know, oh
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'll get the answer. I'll get this Axel mystery out
- 20:48Speaker 1: of him. Yeah, my parents just named me that. Oh
- 20:53Speaker 1: I don't know, but but it was, it was, it was,
- 20:56Speaker 1: you know, interesting to have him be the be the
- 20:58Speaker 1: quarterback yesterday. I mean, there was some can usu if
- 21:00Speaker 1: he was gonna go, if he was gonna go with
- 21:01Speaker 1: his locker, where are we going to carry it? And
- 21:03Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, it's all happening and he
- 21:05Speaker 1: started going, I'm just looking at at Horrier's stats and
- 21:08Speaker 1: like the whole, like the good stretch thing went in.
- 21:13Speaker 1: In fourteen, he went seven and six as the starter
- 21:16Speaker 1: with Cleveland, which on the surface seems pretty good. You know,
- 21:19Speaker 1: they're they're you know, thirteen starts. He went seven and
- 21:22Speaker 1: six with Cleveland. Not easy to do Cleveland, but completed
- 21:27Speaker 1: fifty five percent of his passes with twelve touchdowns and
- 21:30Speaker 1: thirteen picks. Yeah, so anyway that Cleveland, he was a
- 21:33Speaker 1: little better than we you know, kind of gave it
- 21:35Speaker 1: credit for it. But I think in that season, I'm
- 21:39Speaker 1: not talking about the season, there was a stretch within
- 21:41Speaker 1: the season where he did well and then he dropped
- 21:43Speaker 1: off at the end. Yeah, I know, I don't remember
- 21:47Speaker 1: the specifics of it, but I remember just being happy
- 21:49Speaker 1: for him that he was, you know, getting a chance
- 21:51Speaker 1: and playing well. And I mean, and then he got
- 21:53Speaker 1: hurt in Green Bay at that game he started. I mean,
- 21:56Speaker 1: I remember he had a I think he tores acl
- 22:00Speaker 1: not then at another points He's just had really bad
- 22:02Speaker 1: luck too with some of his uh you know, injuries
- 22:05Speaker 1: and you know, get an opportunity and then you get
- 22:07Speaker 1: hurt and stuff, so and stuff. Let's see. I think
- 22:10Speaker 1: I think he's been no, I'm not trying to tell
- 22:13Speaker 1: you pretty bad. I mean, he completes less than sixty
- 22:15Speaker 1: percent of his passes. It's not exactly a small sample size.
- 22:19Speaker 1: That's a very very low number. That is for today's
- 22:22Speaker 1: end of the NFL. That's you you gotta be like
- 22:24Speaker 1: mid sixty five, Yeah, mid sixties. He's fifty nine point three.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He's sixteen and twenty three as a starter. That I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 1: that's a good amount of starts. Yeah, those are Ryan
- 22:33Speaker 1: Fitzpatrick numbers. Yeah, in other words, bad. Do you see
- 22:37Speaker 1: about how much Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn't like Tom Brady? Do
- 22:40Speaker 1: you see any of those? Yeah, I mean, yeah, he's
- 22:44Speaker 1: doesn't have a lot of respect for him. Yeah. So
- 22:46Speaker 1: that one time they beat him in, like I think
- 22:48Speaker 1: with twenty eleven when they beat him up in, you
- 22:50Speaker 1: didn't come out and say thank you, congratulations. He put
- 22:54Speaker 1: up a fight and a bunch of those games. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: mean he got Brady a few times, especially at the
- 22:57Speaker 1: end of that that nineteen game at the end of
- 22:59Speaker 1: the season. That one was that was not good. That
- 23:02Speaker 1: was a bad one. Yeah, I got the last laugh there.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think Fitzpatrick is funny, you know, Like I remember
- 23:07Speaker 1: we went up to Buffalo and he did well and
- 23:09Speaker 1: they were like, okay, we got our guy and they
- 23:12Speaker 1: signed him to that deal and yeah, yeah, he just
- 23:16Speaker 1: he's not consistent. You just can't. It's hard to find
- 23:19Speaker 1: a consistent quarter. Yeah. All right, five five past five
- 23:24Speaker 1: hundred's the a ticket outline web radio at Patris dot com.
- 23:27Speaker 1: We got picks today. We have to hurry just a
- 23:30Speaker 1: little preview. How did people do? Just overall? You guys
- 23:33Speaker 1: are struggling. Really, come on, that's my preview. Yeah, okay,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you guys are struggling, but not you mad bad. I'm
- 23:40Speaker 1: struggling for me, but not in relation to you guys. Okay,
- 23:43Speaker 1: all right, Uh let's get to the phones. We'll start
- 23:47Speaker 1: with Tyler and Connecticut. Hey, ty Jo left over from
- 23:51Speaker 1: the postgame show. Uh, Melvin's in Tennessee. What's up, Melviny? Hey? Um,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I just got a question about Green Bay about how
- 24:02Speaker 1: you all would I guess side with Aaron Rodgers with this.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I guess his little beef was with them that they
- 24:08Speaker 1: didn't get him a lot of weapons. I guess throughout
- 24:10Speaker 1: Green Bay. I feel like the I guess I can
- 24:13Speaker 1: kind of see his point. A lot of his teams
- 24:14Speaker 1: from more top heavy. He didn't have like the dam
- 24:18Speaker 1: and dollar, so whatever option for So would you all
- 24:21Speaker 1: feel like that he has a point with his lack
- 24:24Speaker 1: of weapons, weapons, a lack of bringing people into fully
- 24:28Speaker 1: maximized green based opportunity or would you side more with
- 24:32Speaker 1: the owners of like you know it was good nothing
- 24:34Speaker 1: the season you won all these regular season games, did
- 24:38Speaker 1: you know you did the MVPs? You just didn't come
- 24:40Speaker 1: through in the playoffs wouldn't matter. So who are would
- 24:44Speaker 1: you really be signed for? And that I think I'd
- 24:46Speaker 1: be signing with Aaron Rodgers. Actually I side with neither side. Oh,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I think it's ridiculous that a team has a philosophy
- 24:54Speaker 1: that they don't sign free agents. We just don't do it. Yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think that's ridiculous. So I sided with Aaron Rodgers
- 24:58Speaker 1: on the other side to suggest that Aaron Rodgers doesn't
- 25:01Speaker 1: have weapons when he had Davante Adams for all those
- 25:04Speaker 1: years and Randall Cobbles right now, No, this, at this
- 25:08Speaker 1: particular moment in time, they just drafted two receivers for him,
- 25:13Speaker 1: like in this particular draft. Yeah. Yeah. The only the
- 25:17Speaker 1: only thing that I would I would sign with Aaron
- 25:19Speaker 1: Rodgers on is the Jordan Love pick. That would piss
- 25:22Speaker 1: me off too if I were Aaron Rodgers, like you
- 25:25Speaker 1: drafted him a replacement and you're not gonna get You're
- 25:27Speaker 1: not gonna sign me any free agents, but you're gonna
- 25:29Speaker 1: drap my replacement. That would piss me off too. But otherwise,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I think Aaron Rodgers has kind of come up small
- 25:35Speaker 1: in the biggest spots, Like do I think he's not great? No?
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think he's one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. But
- 25:43Speaker 1: did they lose last year because they didn't have enough weapons?
- 25:45Speaker 1: Did they lose to San Francisco in that game because
- 25:47Speaker 1: of weapons or because he couldn't put any points on
- 25:49Speaker 1: the board, right, Like, part of it is you got
- 25:54Speaker 1: to look in the mirror and find out why you're
- 25:55Speaker 1: not coming up big when it when it matters most.
- 25:57Speaker 1: They've had a lot of lambeau Field loss is in
- 26:00Speaker 1: the playoffs. So I'll make I'll push back a little
- 26:04Speaker 1: bit and play the side of Aaron Rodgers. When you
- 26:06Speaker 1: get to the playoffs, you play the better teams with
- 26:09Speaker 1: better defenses. And the fact when I don't have weapons,
- 26:12Speaker 1: it shows up more against those teams. Right, And he
- 26:14Speaker 1: had the best wide receiver in football and lost with him. Right,
- 26:18Speaker 1: One guy though, the number one Randall Cobb is one
- 26:20Speaker 1: of the best slot receivers in football too. Yeah, like
- 26:23Speaker 1: they had plenty. Okay, I'm just saying, I'm just I'm
- 26:26Speaker 1: just playing this side. Yeah, And I'm pushing back on
- 26:29Speaker 1: the team side. Again. I blame the team because I
- 26:32Speaker 1: think it's ridictive. Philosophy is ridiculous. They have not maximized
- 26:36Speaker 1: the roster around Aaron Rodgers. So I understand Rogers's side.
- 26:40Speaker 1: They could be better, but they didn't. They lost to
- 26:43Speaker 1: when inferior team in the playoffs at home last year. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 1: and that's not the first time that that's happened. But
- 26:49Speaker 1: I like what they did with Dobson Watson, like I
- 26:51Speaker 1: wish the Patients had done something similar where you get
- 26:53Speaker 1: two different but both explosive and athletic guys that all right,
- 26:57Speaker 1: there's gonna be some growing paints. They're thrown right into
- 26:59Speaker 1: the fire as the leading receiver right now. Watson hurt
- 27:02Speaker 1: but still has that potential. And to me, yeah, I'm
- 27:07Speaker 1: one hundred percent on the Rogers side on that, Like sure,
- 27:09Speaker 1: because what's what what value getting out of that? If
- 27:11Speaker 1: if you go out and sign like uh, I mean,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't think of like who in
- 27:18Speaker 1: that particular year. But let's say a guy of the
- 27:20Speaker 1: caliber of even Kenny Galladay, who's been a tremendous disappointment
- 27:26Speaker 1: with the Giants. Right, I'm not talking about the best.
- 27:29Speaker 1: I'm just talking about a quality NFL player. If you
- 27:32Speaker 1: would signed him and then drafted Jordan Love in the
- 27:34Speaker 1: first round, I could say, Okay, yeah, listen, Aaron, we're
- 27:37Speaker 1: gonna get you this guy. We're gonna draft a quarterback
- 27:39Speaker 1: because we've got to think about life after you. But
- 27:41Speaker 1: we're gonna go out and they don't do that. So
- 27:43Speaker 1: I understand Aaron Rodgers, is you know point of view
- 27:47Speaker 1: there much like what we used to argue with Tom. Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 1: you know, toward the end he was upset when you know,
- 27:52Speaker 1: with Jimmy and they weren't getting me weapons. And now yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 1: I mean, I BET's going a little bit. I like
- 27:58Speaker 1: it all right later, Thanks Alvin, very good. Um. I
- 28:04Speaker 1: just think the whole they don't have any weapons thing
- 28:06Speaker 1: is a crutch for Aaron Rodgers. You know, I think
- 28:09Speaker 1: they've had, they've had weapons. I can't listen to that
- 28:11Speaker 1: when all I hear is every other call is they
- 28:13Speaker 1: need a number one. They need a number one, like
- 28:15Speaker 1: like the Packers have a number one. Like don't tell me,
- 28:17Speaker 1: oh they don't have the one. They had one and
- 28:20Speaker 1: he's a good one. Yeah this year, light of my
- 28:22Speaker 1: summer one. This year might be different. But they did
- 28:24Speaker 1: draft two guys for him who were right in the
- 28:27Speaker 1: mix too. You know. Let's see Ryan writes in he's
- 28:31Speaker 1: a Cowboys fan. U if you already talked about it
- 28:34Speaker 1: before you get to see mail, then discard. But I
- 28:37Speaker 1: want to get your thoughts on what Lombardi said about
- 28:40Speaker 1: Mac yesterday or the day before. I feel he is
- 28:42Speaker 1: just trying to protect Bill and will not put any
- 28:45Speaker 1: blame at all on Bill. Belichick could murder someone and
- 28:48Speaker 1: Lombardi will tell you he didn't. I don't trust anything
- 28:51Speaker 1: he says. Yeah, I agree, Yeah, I actually printed it out.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Just when you have some some whenever a relationship like
- 28:59Speaker 1: that too. And I'm not even blaming Bill here because
- 29:03Speaker 1: when you have a relationship like that, Bill doesn't even
- 29:05Speaker 1: have to talk to Mike Lombardi. Mike Lombardi just sort
- 29:07Speaker 1: of takes it upon himself. He knows, right, he knows
- 29:10Speaker 1: what's going on there. He knows he's under fire a
- 29:12Speaker 1: little bit, so he's rallying. Now. I'm not telling you
- 29:14Speaker 1: that he didn't talk to to Mike Lombardi. Maybe he did,
- 29:18Speaker 1: but I'm just saying, what that kind of a relationship,
- 29:21Speaker 1: that kind of history, Lombardi doesn't need any prompting. He's
- 29:25Speaker 1: going to do that anyway. I mean, aside from the
- 29:28Speaker 1: point I mean I I mean, I don't disagree with
- 29:30Speaker 1: a lot of his points though. I mean, you can
- 29:32Speaker 1: say that it's it's shining the light on Mac and
- 29:34Speaker 1: his mistakes, but I mean, you know, I can't really
- 29:37Speaker 1: argue with a lot of his points saying, I mean,
- 29:39Speaker 1: they did move the ball. They're making critical turnovers in
- 29:42Speaker 1: the worst moments. This is a kid that you got
- 29:43Speaker 1: the thought weren't wasn't going to make these mistakes. You know.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I'm like, and I'll blame the offense design and all
- 29:49Speaker 1: that stuff for part of it too, But you know,
- 29:51Speaker 1: you had a real chance to win that game last week,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and you know, do you really blame the offense for it? Like?
- 29:57Speaker 1: I see, here's my problem. Okay, have you ever gone
- 30:01Speaker 1: into a game saying, if we can just average seven
- 30:03Speaker 1: yards of play today, we're gonna win. If we can
- 30:07Speaker 1: have a higher average per play than the other team,
- 30:09Speaker 1: we're gonna win. No, we're just cherry picking stats, And
- 30:13Speaker 1: this particular one is cherry picked from one particular game,
- 30:16Speaker 1: and it's the only game that they've had success consistently
- 30:20Speaker 1: making big plays, which is why the average per play
- 30:24Speaker 1: against Baltimore was high. By the way, so was Baltimore's
- 30:28Speaker 1: leaves that part out. I guess when when the coach's
- 30:31Speaker 1: son is involved on defense, we don't have to worry
- 30:33Speaker 1: about that side of the ball, because if you think
- 30:35Speaker 1: that's coaching, then you'll just be in naive. And by
- 30:38Speaker 1: the way, he wanted to say stupid and stopped himself
- 30:41Speaker 1: and then change stud he went naive, he changed you know. Yeah,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I just don't understand how you can sit here and
- 30:49Speaker 1: tell me that everything has been great with the approach
- 30:53Speaker 1: on offense, because on Sunday we've talked about this, the
- 30:58Speaker 1: throws to Parker were eight. That's the best I've seen
- 31:01Speaker 1: the offense. Look, that ain't the offense that played against Miami,
- 31:05Speaker 1: and it ain't the offense that played against Pittsburgh. No,
- 31:08Speaker 1: So now this is so they did it once, you know,
- 31:11Speaker 1: for half the game against Baltimore, and this is what
- 31:13Speaker 1: they are now. But it's it's don't don't blame the coaching.
- 31:16Speaker 1: This is what they are. It's all Mac. And that's
- 31:18Speaker 1: the other thing about what Lombardi said, like he said, oh, Matt,
- 31:20Speaker 1: you know Max's making really bad decisions. Okay, Well, is
- 31:24Speaker 1: it his decision to throw to Parker all those times?
- 31:26Speaker 1: Is it his decision to throw these fifty fifty balls
- 31:29Speaker 1: that we've been right. So, yeah, that you were mocking yesterday.
- 31:31Speaker 1: So we're given the coaching credit for those, but we're
- 31:35Speaker 1: blaming Mac for the bad plays, you know, And that's
- 31:38Speaker 1: basically my problem with it. Meanwhile, Matt hasn't played well,
- 31:41Speaker 1: but you're blaming it all on Mac. You're not taking
- 31:44Speaker 1: anything else to Maco's the sideline. It sounded like he
- 31:47Speaker 1: was blaming the coaching for that one, that interception in
- 31:49Speaker 1: the end zone. I think he was mad at at
- 31:51Speaker 1: Parker on that, but I don't know. I mean, I'm
- 31:53Speaker 1: just kind of I don't know. I think I think
- 31:56Speaker 1: he was yelling at was cover four? Where what is
- 31:58Speaker 1: he doing? Why is he? Why isn't he there? Oh?
- 32:00Speaker 1: I thought it was covered for why'd you call that play?
- 32:02Speaker 1: But maybe it could be could be right too. This
- 32:06Speaker 1: is what happens when you don't find anything out. Everybody's speculating,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and so my thing is, Okay, if you really think
- 32:12Speaker 1: it was the wrong play, check out of it. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and I'm not defending Mac, you know, like like like
- 32:18Speaker 1: that he's blameless. I think Mac has thrown the ball
- 32:20Speaker 1: into Harm's way too many times. I made a comment yesterday.
- 32:23Speaker 1: He's got five picks. He could have at least five more. Yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 1: if the defensive backs could catch the ball that some
- 32:29Speaker 1: of these things, he'd be really and struggling. But this
- 32:32Speaker 1: isn't all on Mac. No, it isn't. And I'm like
- 32:34Speaker 1: I said earlier, I'm not I don't care about those
- 32:37Speaker 1: ones he's thrown in harm's way. That's part of his
- 32:39Speaker 1: growing process. You know, he's got to learn what he
- 32:43Speaker 1: can and can't do. Uh, you know, and I think
- 32:46Speaker 1: last year he was protected a lot, and this year
- 32:49Speaker 1: it's he's not and he's gonna make mistakes and you're
- 32:51Speaker 1: gonna have to live with that. If you really want
- 32:54Speaker 1: to develop a young quarterback, you're gonna have to live
- 32:56Speaker 1: with it. Yeah. But there's a line too of just
- 32:59Speaker 1: you know, and I I feel like that's what he's
- 33:01Speaker 1: you know. I I don't think that he was in
- 33:04Speaker 1: danger of getting benched like like Lombardi kind of. I
- 33:07Speaker 1: don't add like, but I'm gonna give him a pass
- 33:10Speaker 1: on that one. I don't think he meant that literally,
- 33:11Speaker 1: but I do think that, you know, if this season
- 33:15Speaker 1: was going to turn around, it was going to have
- 33:16Speaker 1: to be with Mac Jones making some significant strides. To
- 33:20Speaker 1: you know to to elevate the offense more, and you know,
- 33:22Speaker 1: just just have a game where it's clean, you know,
- 33:25Speaker 1: like just show me that. I mean, you know, I
- 33:26Speaker 1: don't know how long he'll be out, but let's say
- 33:28Speaker 1: he never got hurt. Maybe by week eight, nine ten,
- 33:32Speaker 1: we do see significant improvement. But you've got to you know, yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 1: well you got to grow. And it's like it's not
- 33:39Speaker 1: just gonna happen overnight. And if he hadn't gotten hurt
- 33:41Speaker 1: on that last play, I feel like I would I
- 33:43Speaker 1: would be able to be pretty encouraged right now of
- 33:45Speaker 1: just just don't make the mistakes, like you can move
- 33:48Speaker 1: the ball. You're you're showing strides to me. You're showing
- 33:52Speaker 1: me plays where he had some zip on that he
- 33:54Speaker 1: got that in there. I didn't. I hadn't seen those
- 33:56Speaker 1: throws last year, right, you know. But now it's like, well,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you're now you're derailed. You're probably gonna miss a bunch
- 34:02Speaker 1: of games. When you come back, you're gonna be rusty,
- 34:05Speaker 1: you know, so how much are we even really going
- 34:06Speaker 1: to learn about mac Jones in year two? It puts
- 34:09Speaker 1: everything back his development in our Yeah, and now our
- 34:13Speaker 1: developed and then like you know, and I've been saying,
- 34:17Speaker 1: I don't know when he's going to come back, but
- 34:19Speaker 1: either way, it's a murderer's row at the second half
- 34:21Speaker 1: of that, like the last what six weeks of the season,
- 34:23Speaker 1: Buffalo twice. Um, you gotta go out to Arizona Raiders.
- 34:26Speaker 1: You know, I know those don't look quite like what
- 34:28Speaker 1: they did maybe four weeks ago. But you know, it's
- 34:31Speaker 1: it's it's a really tough spot for him to come
- 34:33Speaker 1: back and kind of recapture momentum. And you know that,
- 34:36Speaker 1: And that's why I hope it's not a long time
- 34:38Speaker 1: and then he's able to get back to some of
- 34:40Speaker 1: the stretch of these games that are that are winnable.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I think if he's the guy, he'll work, He'll you know,
- 34:46Speaker 1: I have no doubt he'll work. I just wish that
- 34:48Speaker 1: we had some kind of clarity of what to expect
- 34:50Speaker 1: and when to expect him. And you know, Mike, you
- 34:53Speaker 1: don't need to know. You don't need to know. Okay,
- 34:56Speaker 1: it's processed. Don't be so results. Ye, George's new today,
- 35:00Speaker 1: George is in Texas. Any idea when the Patriots will
- 35:03Speaker 1: sport the throwback jerseys? Yes, I do have an idea
- 35:06Speaker 1: and Detroit will be one of the games and uh,
- 35:09Speaker 1: what was it the Bills or I keep forgetting is
- 35:13Speaker 1: of the Bills Thursday night? Yeah Bills? Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 35:16Speaker 1: we'll throwback. But the week after this home game against Detroit,
- 35:21Speaker 1: you'll see the Reds. Yeah yeah, yeah, that's uh, that's
- 35:27Speaker 1: out there right yep. This season, I feel Mac is
- 35:29Speaker 1: doing too much. I see the good get overshadowed by
- 35:33Speaker 1: the bat. I also think Parker needs to work more
- 35:35Speaker 1: with Mac off the field. Not knowing that Mac has
- 35:38Speaker 1: changed the play based on what he is seeing is
- 35:40Speaker 1: confusing Parker. This is preventing him to go full speed
- 35:44Speaker 1: to get open because he doesn't know where to go.
- 35:48Speaker 1: And that's max fold. Yeah, I mean I've seeing the
- 35:53Speaker 1: thing twice with Parker is a little bit strange to
- 35:55Speaker 1: me though, a pre snap like what doing that kind
- 35:58Speaker 1: of thing like that, that's not good. That the red
- 36:00Speaker 1: flag to me with see, but that also that also
- 36:05Speaker 1: can be a couple of different things that could be
- 36:06Speaker 1: like I missed that, like what would you say? Yeah,
- 36:11Speaker 1: you know, and I'm obviously not saying on the field,
- 36:13Speaker 1: he's saying what did you say? But like when he
- 36:15Speaker 1: gives them one of these is like I didn't hear
- 36:17Speaker 1: you could be as simple as that, or is you
- 36:20Speaker 1: know x X y Z cross. I don't know what
- 36:24Speaker 1: that means, you know, like you know when when v
- 36:26Speaker 1: comes in and talks about you know, EPA, like like,
- 36:29Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what that means. Maybe it's
- 36:32Speaker 1: he doesn't know what he's doing. Maybe he doesn't know
- 36:33Speaker 1: the adjustments and the calls, which is a much bigger problem.
- 36:36Speaker 1: But I just think that we just well Parker doesn't
- 36:39Speaker 1: know what he's doing. I just think there's a little
- 36:42Speaker 1: bit of an issue with mac in that it seems
- 36:45Speaker 1: like and this kind of pops up with some of
- 36:47Speaker 1: the free rushers too, of not taking that last extra
- 36:51Speaker 1: second to know what's going on, and some of the
- 36:53Speaker 1: like the late rotation stuff right before the snap have
- 36:56Speaker 1: fooled him. And the same thing with Parker where it
- 36:59Speaker 1: feels like he's getting the snap and but you don't
- 37:01Speaker 1: have everybody on the same page. And I mean I've
- 37:02Speaker 1: seen Parker do it twice in three games where it
- 37:05Speaker 1: kind of like he doesn't get the second call and
- 37:07Speaker 1: then he just kind of all right, and then he
- 37:09Speaker 1: kind of runs, you know, And so I don't know,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I think that might be an operational thing of just
- 37:13Speaker 1: making sure that extra beat that everybody's on the same page. Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: I think that's a good point. Jonas writes in Small Thing,
- 37:20Speaker 1: But please turn off the phone notifications during taping Tuesday
- 37:24Speaker 1: was brutal with dozens of instances of that stupid sound.
- 37:28Speaker 1: It must have been a big day on the Perillo
- 37:30Speaker 1: family group chat. I think it's not my fault. It's
- 37:33Speaker 1: the iPad that tried to turn off the sound here.
- 37:37Speaker 1: This is as annoying as Andy talking over everyone all
- 37:40Speaker 1: the time, or when Fred Let's callers talk endlessly over
- 37:43Speaker 1: the panel. Yeah you know, easy mac Ah, Let's see
- 37:53Speaker 1: lots of emails. Tony writes in This Morning Damian Woody
- 37:57Speaker 1: and the hated Bart Scott really nailed it what he
- 38:00Speaker 1: said about the Patriots. Nobody scares you a nondescript team.
- 38:05Speaker 1: The despise Scott and discussing the Patriots noted coaching can
- 38:08Speaker 1: only get you so far. It's about the personnel. Until
- 38:12Speaker 1: this team significantly improves the talent, and that talent gets
- 38:15Speaker 1: in their prime age twenty four to twenty eight, the
- 38:18Speaker 1: Patriots will go nowhere. Well, but I do think they're
- 38:23Speaker 1: improving their talent I do, not as fast as I'd like, No,
- 38:27Speaker 1: not as fast as I think any of us would like.
- 38:30Speaker 1: And then some of that talent, I want to see
- 38:32Speaker 1: what happens when they become free agents. Are they're gonna
- 38:37Speaker 1: be allowed? You know, like J C. Jackson to me
- 38:39Speaker 1: should have been part of the future, but you let
- 38:42Speaker 1: them walk, you know. And I wasn't like I didn't
- 38:45Speaker 1: kill him for that because I didn't think as much
- 38:46Speaker 1: of J. C. Jackson as some other people do. But
- 38:49Speaker 1: he was better than what you had. I never arged
- 38:51Speaker 1: you that, Yeah, well it's just I mean, that's and
- 38:53Speaker 1: that's one of the players that you didn't draft but
- 38:57Speaker 1: that you developed, and that knows what he's doing, and
- 38:59Speaker 1: that was a playmaker, and you know those are really
- 39:01Speaker 1: hard to find. And not surprisingly you got hurt when
- 39:04Speaker 1: he left. I know he did, but you know, just
- 39:06Speaker 1: the development of Dugger, and you know, like, how would
- 39:10Speaker 1: you feel it all? You know, this is Dougger's third year,
- 39:14Speaker 1: So how would you feel if Dugger was allowed to
- 39:16Speaker 1: walk after the twenty three season. I mean, I'd be disappointed,
- 39:20Speaker 1: But I mean, at this point, I probably think that's
- 39:22Speaker 1: what's going to happen, unless unless he plays so middling
- 39:25Speaker 1: that they can just get him on a team friendly deal.
- 39:27Speaker 1: But you got to pay somebody. That's a sneaky negative
- 39:31Speaker 1: comment right there. You know what he's saying. Fred, Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 1: if he's really good, he'll be too expensive and they
- 39:36Speaker 1: won't resign him. Right. You've got to have like your
- 39:39Speaker 1: core players, you got to pay him, That's what I'm saying.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Like Barmore, Dugger, they don't have a ton of them. No, Stevenson. Yeah,
- 39:49Speaker 1: And I mean even these players your name and it's
- 39:51Speaker 1: it's they're younger, they're kind of what I'm saying. If
- 39:54Speaker 1: they develop, you're gonna pay them once they hit their contract. Well,
- 39:58Speaker 1: not Stevenson because he's a running back. Yeah, I Stevenson.
- 40:00Speaker 1: You gotta keep somebody. Yeah, you do, like, who are
- 40:04Speaker 1: the guy and what if he is? That sounds like me,
- 40:07Speaker 1: got to keep somebody. If he's just a running back
- 40:10Speaker 1: and he's just like your leading ball carrier, then I
- 40:12Speaker 1: wouldn't you know me, I wouldn't even bat an eye
- 40:15Speaker 1: if you let him go, because you can get that.
- 40:17Speaker 1: But if they kind of turn him into like an
- 40:19Speaker 1: Alvin Camara type, then I am interested in retaining him. Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 1: I agree, you know, he's gonna be not necessarily a
- 40:26Speaker 1: three hundred, three hundred and fifty carry guy, but maybe
- 40:29Speaker 1: a couple one hundred carries with another fifty catches. I'm
- 40:33Speaker 1: interested in that guy because I think that guy can
- 40:36Speaker 1: impact games. Camara can impact games. But you know, and
- 40:38Speaker 1: I'm not telling you that I think Romadre Stevenson's as
- 40:41Speaker 1: good as Alvin Camara. But you know what I mean,
- 40:42Speaker 1: Let's let's, you know, dream a little bit. What if
- 40:44Speaker 1: tycon Thornton is that speed guy that opens things up right? Well?
- 40:48Speaker 1: Would would you want to keep him on your tea? Yeah?
- 40:50Speaker 1: The fear is that you allow him to walk after
- 40:52Speaker 1: for you? Right? Right? Do you think I kind of
- 40:55Speaker 1: continues for one quis, do you think they're more willing
- 40:57Speaker 1: to pay third down kind of running back because they're
- 41:00Speaker 1: not as worried about wear and tear and like a
- 41:02Speaker 1: guy like James White or Kevin Folk, they're not taking
- 41:05Speaker 1: the pounding. So and it's also a value of their
- 41:08Speaker 1: intelligence and their pass protection and knowing what to do
- 41:10Speaker 1: within the offense, whereas maybe they just it would be
- 41:13Speaker 1: really hard for a first second down power back to
- 41:16Speaker 1: get a second contract because they just view them as
- 41:18Speaker 1: kind of replaceable. I mean, as much as I'm with you,
- 41:21Speaker 1: and I like Stevenson a little bit better than Damian Harris,
- 41:24Speaker 1: like not not a huge difference. I mean it's you know,
- 41:26Speaker 1: but I think he's definitely better in the passing game.
- 41:28Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, So that's that's that's that's what I
- 41:31Speaker 1: would watch. But right now, i'd even be in favor
- 41:33Speaker 1: if you want to, you want to resign Harris and Stevenson,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you know, like maybe Harris to a more reasonable contractum,
- 41:41Speaker 1: and you sort of keep it the way it is,
- 41:44Speaker 1: like Harris is more of the main ball carrier and
- 41:47Speaker 1: Stevenson's more the hybrid guy. I wouldn't be necessarily posted
- 41:51Speaker 1: because I know they're not going to break the bank.
- 41:53Speaker 1: They're not going to give him a Derrick Henry contract.
- 41:56Speaker 1: You know, where you're putting all your eggs in that basket.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I know that. I know the Patriots I going to
- 42:00Speaker 1: do that with a running back. But right it's like
- 42:02Speaker 1: Duger's in year three, so like and when's he going
- 42:05Speaker 1: to be bad? And he was back out there, but
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know, he's a little bit thinged up right now.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Like I mean, he's got a year and a half
- 42:10Speaker 1: like to to either prove that he is this like
- 42:13Speaker 1: player that all the fans want him to be of,
- 42:16Speaker 1: you know, potential game changing kind of safety. But at
- 42:19Speaker 1: the same time, they got like four safeties that they play,
- 42:22Speaker 1: so is he ever going to be able to make it?
- 42:25Speaker 1: I mean, I guess it's tied to the running backs
- 42:26Speaker 1: with the same kind of thing, where you have such
- 42:28Speaker 1: a volume of guys that it's hard for a guy
- 42:30Speaker 1: to really stand out, and maybe in a way then
- 42:32Speaker 1: it keeps their production down and then it enables them
- 42:35Speaker 1: to continue to take a good chance that you're only
- 42:37Speaker 1: going to have two of those four next year with
- 42:39Speaker 1: mccordy and Pepper's probably gone, and then you would hope
- 42:43Speaker 1: under that scenario that Bledsoe can sort of grow into
- 42:48Speaker 1: one of those spots, yeah, you know, and give you
- 42:50Speaker 1: some contributions there. Maybe maybe Miles Bryant could be more
- 42:54Speaker 1: of like the deep kind of like the mccordy replacement,
- 42:58Speaker 1: because I think he's pretty good in rich Maybe he
- 43:01Speaker 1: he could give you a little bit more there. Well.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones, I mean I think he's he's this is
- 43:05Speaker 1: his last year his deal, you know, I mean, we
- 43:08Speaker 1: talk about not having a lot of cornerback not having
- 43:10Speaker 1: you know, a guy you've already given a second contract
- 43:12Speaker 1: to him. He's playing great. I mean I think was
- 43:15Speaker 1: it Reese that wrote wrote about him playing Dug Hide
- 43:18Speaker 1: was highlighting him of just you know the you know,
- 43:20Speaker 1: I know he's topping the he's topping the PF ratings
- 43:23Speaker 1: right now. He's I mean, he's number one in all
- 43:24Speaker 1: the ratings, number one, number one. But I mean regardless,
- 43:27Speaker 1: he's a good player. He's made I mean he two
- 43:30Speaker 1: two big plays last week. You know, of of everybody
- 43:33Speaker 1: on the team that you're saying star players to make
- 43:35Speaker 1: impact plays, like he's one of one of them. Think
- 43:36Speaker 1: so far he's having his best seed. I think I
- 43:39Speaker 1: think fans are right to make fun of me. I
- 43:41Speaker 1: think I have problems. I have to really reevaluate. Well,
- 43:44Speaker 1: you just don't like the fans. I'm just looking at
- 43:46Speaker 1: that play where Bateman cartog in front of him, gave
- 43:49Speaker 1: him a little move and he was standing still thirty
- 43:51Speaker 1: yards like it's gonna happen. I mean, I don't even
- 43:55Speaker 1: think he was in coverage. If this is my whole
- 43:57Speaker 1: thing with the ratings, I don't really care about like
- 43:59Speaker 1: like his ratings are great because he knocked the ball
- 44:02Speaker 1: away like in that like you get small little sample
- 44:05Speaker 1: size and you get turnovers and ups your rating and stuff.
- 44:08Speaker 1: And I think there was a bad play there that
- 44:11Speaker 1: people just completely ignore. And it was a huge play
- 44:14Speaker 1: in that fourth quarter against Baltimore when Bateman got down
- 44:18Speaker 1: the sideline. Stephen Carmel, New York, just wanted to say
- 44:22Speaker 1: how nice it was to meet Paul and Mike on
- 44:24Speaker 1: Monday morning at the Hall. You really turned around a
- 44:27Speaker 1: doom and gloom weekend at Gillette. By the way, I
- 44:30Speaker 1: will continue to tell my wife that we met two
- 44:32Speaker 1: extremely famous and important people in the Patriots organization. I
- 44:36Speaker 1: emailed yesterday, but I guess Fred couldn't get to it.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Thank you, he said it to us on Monday. Thank
- 44:44Speaker 1: you all for what you do. One Patriots question, what
- 44:46Speaker 1: do you feel is in the best interest of the
- 44:49Speaker 1: team to rush back mac back when he's not one
- 44:52Speaker 1: hundred percent but can play so we can save the
- 44:55Speaker 1: season If things they're not going well for Horrier, that's astroyer,
- 44:58Speaker 1: or let him sit out at least completely healed, and
- 45:01Speaker 1: the season at that point may already be lost. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: just I don't think you can rush him back. That
- 45:07Speaker 1: just doesn't make any sense to me at all that
- 45:09Speaker 1: you would rush somebody back, and you know, and then
- 45:11Speaker 1: he's got to go out there and perform, and and
- 45:13Speaker 1: his performance is on him if he plays. When you're
- 45:15Speaker 1: dealing with Brady, it's fair to say, boy, you know,
- 45:18Speaker 1: a Brady at seventy five percent is better than a
- 45:20Speaker 1: one hundred percent Hoyer. I'm not sure that's the same
- 45:23Speaker 1: with Mac. No, I mean, with with confidence and pocket
- 45:26Speaker 1: issues and protection issues and free rushers. I mean, yeah,
- 45:30Speaker 1: I'm not thinking about how much Mac has had to run. Yeah,
- 45:33Speaker 1: you take that away. I'm in the middle of Yeah,
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'm in the middle of those two scenarios. I don't
- 45:38Speaker 1: want to wait until he's fully one hundred percent, But
- 45:40Speaker 1: I don't want to rush him back either. Sure, um, yeah,
- 45:44Speaker 1: you guys are right. I mean I think that he
- 45:45Speaker 1: would be. I don't think there's a huge gap. I
- 45:49Speaker 1: just I mean, people are gonna look at that as
- 45:51Speaker 1: I'm bashing Mac Jones. I just I just don't think
- 45:54Speaker 1: there's a huge gap. This is not like Brady in
- 45:56Speaker 1: a backup quarterback, well Rogers in a backup Mac Jones.
- 46:00Speaker 1: So Mike Lombardi's diatribe, there has been kind of struggling.
- 46:04Speaker 1: He's second to last in the ratings right now. I
- 46:07Speaker 1: know the quarterback ranking rating is not the be all,
- 46:10Speaker 1: end all statistic, but he hasn't played great. He's turned
- 46:12Speaker 1: the ball over too many times. Locke from Adelaide. I
- 46:16Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts on the questions below and
- 46:18Speaker 1: then the same questions. But hypothetically, if you were a
- 46:21Speaker 1: Bill Belichick or b Robert Kraft with Max's injury impacting
- 46:27Speaker 1: the team, what would you deem a successful twenty two
- 46:30Speaker 1: twenty three season. It doesn't necessarily have to be win
- 46:33Speaker 1: loss record. It could be a player of coach development
- 46:38Speaker 1: playing really good football at the end of the season.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Just that you know, I don't know what the win
- 46:43Speaker 1: loss is kind of ore, but like if it feels
- 46:45Speaker 1: like their end of the season playing their best football
- 46:47Speaker 1: and feeling like there was a progression and they got
- 46:49Speaker 1: better as a team and some playmakers started the standout,
- 46:53Speaker 1: I'll take a seven eight, you know, those kind of
- 46:55Speaker 1: win seasons. If if that's what it happens, I just
- 46:57Speaker 1: wind their best. I just don't want to see them
- 46:59Speaker 1: file their faces. Really good season. Ten wins, ten wins, Yeah,
- 47:03Speaker 1: I think ten wins to me is the benchmark for
- 47:06Speaker 1: for a good season like last year. But what if
- 47:08Speaker 1: you win ten in a row and you'll lose your
- 47:10Speaker 1: last seven? Okay, what about this extreme example Paul? Right,
- 47:17Speaker 1: even I don't do those, you know, it's it's but
- 47:21Speaker 1: I'm kind of with Duce, like, let me show me development,
- 47:24Speaker 1: show me what they're doing at the end, especially with
- 47:26Speaker 1: their schedule this year where they're playing the better teams
- 47:29Speaker 1: at the end, right, how do they match up? I mean,
- 47:31Speaker 1: do they you know? And it's a little bit of
- 47:32Speaker 1: fools gold potential because you know, what's that last game
- 47:35Speaker 1: against Buffalo gonna actually look like? Is that is that
- 47:38Speaker 1: a game for anything? There's Buffalo playing backups in that game.
- 47:41Speaker 1: But still, I think what you've seen the last three
- 47:44Speaker 1: years is a team that starts really good and seems
- 47:46Speaker 1: like they're they're wow, all right, and then they just
- 47:48Speaker 1: kind of fall apart down the end. And you know,
- 47:50Speaker 1: I think if everything that's kind of got me shook,
- 47:52Speaker 1: that that's been the consistent thing of of those three seasons.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So just like to see them turn around and start
- 47:58Speaker 1: to you know, leave something where we're going into the
- 48:00Speaker 1: offseason saying I'm excited. We got some things to build
- 48:03Speaker 1: around taking a quarterback out of the equation. How many
- 48:12Speaker 1: good players are a future Patriots squad missing from becoming
- 48:15Speaker 1: a super Bowl contender? Again, M that's quite a few.
- 48:21Speaker 1: That's hard to do, like taking the quarterback out of
- 48:24Speaker 1: the equation, Yeah, because because you could theoretically just have
- 48:27Speaker 1: the quarterback in some situations and be, you know, a
- 48:30Speaker 1: contender or at least, you know, I have a guy
- 48:32Speaker 1: that's good enough to make you in every single time.
- 48:35Speaker 1: You know, like with an average quarterback, there are three
- 48:39Speaker 1: studs away, right, you know, like a rusher, cornerback, and
- 48:44Speaker 1: a wide receiver. That sounds good, you know, yeah, I'd
- 48:47Speaker 1: take that. I think you need more than that probably, well,
- 48:50Speaker 1: just just an average quarterback, Yeah that's all. Yeah, I
- 48:53Speaker 1: think you need I think you need a lead all
- 48:55Speaker 1: around with just an average quarterback. Um, how long would
- 48:59Speaker 1: you be willing to accept the Patriots are from this moment?
- 49:03Speaker 1: How long are you willing to accept that the Patriots
- 49:06Speaker 1: are from this moment to becoming super Bowl contenders? I
- 49:09Speaker 1: don't so. How long from now are you willing to
- 49:12Speaker 1: wait for them to be a super Bowl contender? Two years?
- 49:15Speaker 1: I have to like decipher all thank you for two
- 49:19Speaker 1: years to like this year, next year and then twenty
- 49:21Speaker 1: twenty four there. Yeah, after next year, I want them
- 49:24Speaker 1: to be contenders. Then one you're gonna give them health,
- 49:27Speaker 1: you know what for Then I'm gonna yeah, my my
- 49:30Speaker 1: expectation bar goes up. After next year. Yeah, I would
- 49:34Speaker 1: say that's yeah, Mac, I mean Mac year three, year four,
- 49:38Speaker 1: I mean yeah, five those I mean yeah, you're six.
- 49:40Speaker 1: You're not gonna I mean you could be like Detra
- 49:43Speaker 1: twice and have the year six jem or six jump.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Uh there's another question. But guess what Evans back from practice?
- 49:51Speaker 1: Evans Evan, Evan, All right, Evan, spotlights on. You put
- 50:09Speaker 1: your mic on it. Okay, I had that song stuck
- 50:14Speaker 1: in my head last night. It was bad. Jill you
- 50:16Speaker 1: gotta you gottat. Can we redub that one? Get get
- 50:18Speaker 1: an actually even too much? Or maybe we get a
- 50:22Speaker 1: new one. I don't know. Yeah, so it was Mack
- 50:24Speaker 1: at practice. He was not at practice. What no Mac Jones,
- 50:29Speaker 1: no Lawrence Guy and a new absence today No Yadney
- 50:34Speaker 1: could juice either could just could just correct myself, could
- 50:38Speaker 1: just could just so That means Marcus Cannon that's the
- 50:41Speaker 1: backup people have been calling from the stars. You've been
- 50:44Speaker 1: hearing that, right, A little bit of Isaiah Win on
- 50:47Speaker 1: the outside looking in with Marcus Cannon breathing down his neck.
- 50:50Speaker 1: I agree with him. I think I think it's a
- 50:53Speaker 1: matter of time, but we'll see. It's a tough matchup
- 50:56Speaker 1: this weekend too. With Rashan Gary, really good player for
- 51:00Speaker 1: the Packers on the edge, I would assume that they're
- 51:03Speaker 1: going to put him over Isaiah Win and see what
- 51:05Speaker 1: Wins got four penalties in the last two games, six
- 51:08Speaker 1: quarterback pressures allowed, had a good week. One hasn't been
- 51:12Speaker 1: as good the last two weeks, and I think Gary's
- 51:14Speaker 1: going to test him. I really like this Gary. He
- 51:16Speaker 1: looks like a Patriots guy to me. Power Yeah. Yeah,
- 51:19Speaker 1: they got some good players. I mean, get a little
- 51:22Speaker 1: scheme crazy, but they play a lot of three four right,
- 51:24Speaker 1: I mean, they just play a lot of base defense,
- 51:26Speaker 1: which I mean I kind of feel like they'll do
- 51:29Speaker 1: against the Patriots, because why not, right, Yeah, they play
- 51:31Speaker 1: a lot of three four stand up edge defenders similar
- 51:34Speaker 1: front to what the Patriots do. Much different in the
- 51:36Speaker 1: back end, but the front itself is very similar. And
- 51:40Speaker 1: Gary is a pocket pusher. This is not a speed
- 51:44Speaker 1: Josh j type. This is a dent to pocket bull rush,
- 51:49Speaker 1: speed to power type of rusher. And Kenny Clark in
- 51:52Speaker 1: the middle is also a big problem. He gave Shaq
- 51:55Speaker 1: Mason all sorts of fits in that game last week
- 51:58Speaker 1: against Tampa Bay. So their front is legitimate, and the
- 52:01Speaker 1: Patriots offensive line has looked a lot better last two weeks,
- 52:04Speaker 1: i'd say than week one, but Isaiah wins one spot
- 52:06Speaker 1: that I feel like, if you're gonna circle somebody to
- 52:09Speaker 1: attack with your edge rushers, it's probably going to be
- 52:12Speaker 1: the right tackle. Just Cole strange about about Kenny that
- 52:16Speaker 1: seems like a good one. Not yeah, it looks really
- 52:18Speaker 1: good to me. We asked David Andrews about him yesterday
- 52:22Speaker 1: and he said he's been taken a lot of time
- 52:24Speaker 1: this week to study Kenny Clark and pick up on
- 52:28Speaker 1: some of his tendencies and maybe anything that they can
- 52:30Speaker 1: pick up on film to get ahead of that guy,
- 52:32Speaker 1: because he, yeah, he's a he's a game wrecker. Shells today,
- 52:36Speaker 1: Shells yes, Okay. What what are they different on the
- 52:39Speaker 1: back end? A little bit more zone in terms of
- 52:43Speaker 1: the way that they play. The zone is definitely different.
- 52:47Speaker 1: It's it's difficult, I think, and this might be an
- 52:55Speaker 1: interesting question for the head coach. Is your three games
- 52:59Speaker 1: in and every team will do something a little bit
- 53:02Speaker 1: differently schematically, game plan wise, Like there's not a lot
- 53:05Speaker 1: of teams that are just we do what we do
- 53:07Speaker 1: one hundred percent of the time, right, There's always some wrinkles.
- 53:10Speaker 1: So at what point in time do things that the
- 53:12Speaker 1: opponent are when do they has become tendencies versus It's
- 53:15Speaker 1: only three games and this small sample size is really skewed.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Like the Packers run defense is thirty second in the
- 53:22Speaker 1: league in DVOA, but they really only have one bad game.
- 53:25Speaker 1: It just happens to be against Chicago. They gave up
- 53:28Speaker 1: almost seven yards to carry in a month soon was
- 53:30Speaker 1: that the ensooned game? No? No, but in that game
- 53:34Speaker 1: that's skew. That's enough to just gets a really good
- 53:37Speaker 1: question though about like at what point do the numbers
- 53:40Speaker 1: become what they are as opposed to Yeah, well, I
- 53:43Speaker 1: brought the same thing up to say. I was like
- 53:44Speaker 1: on dv AWAY, the Patriots have the number one rushing
- 53:46Speaker 1: offense and they have the worst rushing defense. So if
- 53:48Speaker 1: you're just looking at that you're like, oh, hey, look
- 53:50Speaker 1: at this looks perfect, But it's I mean small sample size,
- 53:53Speaker 1: and like you said, very skewed by something I read
- 53:55Speaker 1: and when I was joking around, like I just phoned
- 53:57Speaker 1: the two deep thing out there, like i'd actually read
- 54:00Speaker 1: something in Green Bay. This is basically how they set
- 54:03Speaker 1: their defense up. But they tell you go ahead, run,
- 54:05Speaker 1: you know, run for as many yards as you want.
- 54:06Speaker 1: You're not gonna beat us doing that because we're gonna
- 54:09Speaker 1: lock it down in the back end. We're not going
- 54:10Speaker 1: to give up chunk plays. We're not going to be
- 54:13Speaker 1: easy to score on in the red zone. That's that's
- 54:15Speaker 1: the whole philosophy. That's so, that's the NFL's whole philosophy.
- 54:19Speaker 1: All thirty two teams are running two deep shells, especially
- 54:22Speaker 1: this year, even here, especially this year, and that's why
- 54:25Speaker 1: I think point points are down significantly, in passing yards
- 54:28Speaker 1: are down significantly. It's only three games. Even I have
- 54:30Speaker 1: to ask yode smaller contingent than yesterday. I mentioned that
- 54:37Speaker 1: I think last week that Wednesday seems to be Bill.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Usually the quarterback yesterday was Brian Hoyer. Usually it's mac
- 54:44Speaker 1: Chick fil A, now Chick fil A now it's a
- 54:47Speaker 1: big draw. Lunch is a big draw on Wednesdays. I
- 54:50Speaker 1: might have to show up. Yeah, coming in up here.
- 54:53Speaker 1: You know what what what what? What? What? What? Where? Yeah?
- 54:56Speaker 1: What is that public knowledge? Oh um, yeah somewhere. Oh
- 55:02Speaker 1: you stop it right now. Anyway, So the smaller contingency,
- 55:07Speaker 1: smaller contingency, what wasn't a you know, I think maybe
- 55:12Speaker 1: we see this a little bit with fans too, like
- 55:14Speaker 1: a little bit down. Yeah, that the mood is just
- 55:17Speaker 1: generally I never you never brought back a down mood
- 55:20Speaker 1: to my to my practice reports. Well you yourself brought
- 55:24Speaker 1: the mood up. Come on, guys, three. That was last year,
- 55:30Speaker 1: of course, the Dick van Dyke entrance. You know we
- 55:36Speaker 1: are practice. Let's go yeah yeah, all right, all right, okay, um,
- 55:41Speaker 1: how much did you get to watch? Was it just
- 55:43Speaker 1: the stretching very short? Yesterday we actually got a pretty
- 55:46Speaker 1: extended look at positional drills, you know, nothing team obviously,
- 55:50Speaker 1: but a couple of extended looks at positional drills yesterday.
- 55:54Speaker 1: But today was stretching and get you out of there,
- 55:58Speaker 1: stretch and go go. Now all right, we're gonna take
- 56:02Speaker 1: a break. Watch Paul eat when we come back. More

- 1:06:31Speaker 1: point of the thing that we were talking about, Yes,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I think it's like you're afraid to find out something
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: good about Mac. What what am I like? I'd like
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: to do some research. We might actually find out. Oh
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: so now you want to compare them to everybody, right,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: I just want to know if those numbers, well, I'm
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: going to compare all those numbers to everybody there. He's
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: in the thirties, okay, in the league and most things.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: But I'd like to know what this is. Okay, but
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: you don't want to know what he's like. I do
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: want to know but when we talk about all the
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: other stuff this, when did I say that, oh, those
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: aren't good numbers. We talked about him yesterday and we
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: said those aren't good what all the all the you know,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: his passer rating and all that stuff. The only thing
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I mentioned yesterday was I didn't think Houston blitzed a lot.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: And you just told me. The guy said he flits
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: five times, So I was right. I didn't think Houston
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: blitzed a lot in the game. Okay, they didn't, but
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: that now you're changing the goalpost. I'm not changing any
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: goal posts. You read off his numbers against the blitz, right,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: sixty attempts for three hundred and fifty yards. I said,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: those aren't great numbers. I don't know if they are.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'm telling you it's not. So you know what the numbers.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: I don't care what anybody else does. Three hundred and
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: fifty yards on sixty attempts is not against the blitz.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I'd like to know what the averages are. I'm just
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: telling you it's not good for mac Jones. That's all
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: I'm saying. I don't know what anybody else did, but
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: you need to another. No one has been blitzed as
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: much as he has. Okay, but right becauldn't he say
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that no one got listen Jones. Yeah, so he got
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: blitzed sixty five times. The next guy might have been
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: sixty four. Like, I'd like to know. You're then look
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: it up for it if you want to know. I
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: don't care spouting all the stuff up with them. I'm
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: not spouting anything. All I said was I didn't think
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Houston blitz the lot. And then the guy wrote in
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: to say they always find that one thing. But we're
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: talking about overall. Forget you hang up, not mine, not
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: a hang up. I just want to I don't I
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: just want to know. Then look it up. I don't care.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: That's what I pay you for. I don't have a
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: subscription to PFF. Oh my god, that's another great moment
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: from Oh boy. I just want to know. Just change
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: you're changing the goal post, the goal puss. You don't
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: change like these new goal pusts. And it makes me tired.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: And speaking of tires, Bridge Stone is the official tire

- 1:08:59Speaker 1: can I can I do a quick thing. I just
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: want to say thank you to a few people who
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: reached out to me after I said yesterday on the show,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: my dad was down in Punta Gordon. He's fine, heard
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: from this morning. But um but a few listeners like
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: send me some messages and just said, hey, I hope
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: your dad's doing all right. Um, I just I appreciated it.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Want to say thank you to everybody. Your dad's okay, crazy?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: What a mess down there? Oh my crazy crazy like me?
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Houses underwater? Yeah, talking about people getting trapped in single
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: story homes and yeah, yeah it was a little uh
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: a little harry too with like cell phone service was down,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: power was out and stuff. So um yeah, but thank
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: you to everybody who who reached out. Appreciate what this
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Oh you missed it. There's this machine that they use
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: when it rains. But what does it do? Like it
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: they move it like a foot and then these things
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: come down on the ground and what is it moisture? Right? Yeah?
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I don't know. All right anyway, I digress eight five
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: five past five hundred is the a sticket outline eight
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: fifty five pats, five hundred web radio ad pages dot
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: com is the email address. Um, oh you know what
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: one more thing, Fred too. As I texted you guys,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: I was also watching yesterday CNN's John Burman was down
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: in Tampa and he sent me a very nice email.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: He has fallen in love with the Patriots on filtered show,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: was very complimentary of us. So Alex said that I like,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I think she knows him or something, and he really
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: he emailed her and said he loves the show. Yeah,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: so another another famous PU fan. Yeah, yeah, who's the
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: famous pie John Burman. He's one of the CNN. He
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: was down in Tampa. He's one of the guys standing
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: in the middle of the street like keeting, blown around
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: like God bless him. But uh, yeah, it's nice. I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: don't know, you know, but we've had some very famous
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: people listening to the show. Uh what's her name, Mary McCormick. Yeah,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I think that's right. From In Plane Sight. We've had
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Howard Sterns Wifeward Stern's wife and Private Parts movie and um,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: we've had writers, TV writers, movie script writers listening. Burman's
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: a big Patriots fan, follows me on Twitter. Yep. Oh yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: I just confirmed that falls yep. So he must be
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: excited too. Yeah, that's great man. Not that Bourmon though, yeah,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: all right if I five. He's a big Patriots fan
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: too though, really Chris big Bill fan? Yeah? Huge? I
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: thought he was a Bills fan. He likes the Bills too, nobody.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the phones. People are hanging
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: on Williams and Philam, what's up William? What's going on? Fred?
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: How are you doing good? Okay? Um, I'm gonna trying
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: to How long do I have for It depends on
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: what you're saying. If it's good, we'll keep you talking.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: If you got I don't cut you hurry. Yeah all right,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: well all right, I'm gonna start with this one. First,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: to Evan Evans Ar you don't know me or nothing
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: like that, but you know I sent out a couple
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: of tweets to you when I just want you to
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: know I'm a fan and I love your takedown. How
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you brew things down by TWI Fonthorton Irison crossover. I
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: love that man, so um, thank you once you know
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I'm a fan of that. Thank you problem. All right, Um,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: We've gotta start with this this to the Patriot fans.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: It's crazy, how y'all. A lot of some of you
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Patrio fans. You you little shady a little bit. You
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: was around high with Mike. I'm sorry with mac Jones.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: But this year, because you know, you know, he's learning
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: a new scheme. He has no really no offensive coordineer,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And give him a break,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I'm not saying that he
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: ain't as far as some things, you know, as far
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: as the interceptions, I mean those bonehead and interceptions. But
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: give him a break, y'all. You know what I mean.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Like he's up on it, you know what I mean.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Don't don't abandon him just like that. No, don't count
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: them out just yet. And last, but not least, Bill
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: need to stop screwing around with the roster. If you know,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: just ate nineteen ninety two, you can start. You know
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: you went off defense and all that you got. You
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: gotta look, you gotta put players around Matt, you know
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: what I mean. Better talent. Money ain't for god. Used
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: the tight ends, y'all. Pay these guys a lot of money,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: used them, you know what I'm And I'll leave it
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: at dead gentlemen. All right, thanks William. Yeah, what do
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: you think we'll see a little bit more Hunter Henry
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: in this game? Perhaps? Perhaps? I mean it could look
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: a little different with Hoyer. I mean, you never know,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: but I find it striking, just as like a level production.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: The Packers defense has a weakness. What is it? It's
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: their run defense still, Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: the numbers are as accurate as as we kind of
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: talked about before the break, But if you had to
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: do anything against his Packers defense side run the football. Yeah,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: but it's like I feel like you feel the same,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: where like you look at the individual guys and you're like,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: you don't look like easy to run on. He don't
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: look like he's easy to run on. But like, yeah,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: I guess, I don't know. I didn't really watch much
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: of the of the Bears game. Was that some of it,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: you know, Herbert, I try to split the runs where
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Justin Fields makes an impact, right, because some of the
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: time it wasn't all like read option necessarily, but when
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: he bootlegs, like obviously they have to have a contained
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: guy on the backside when he bootlegs, because he can
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: keep the ball and run out the backside with it.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: So is Brian Hoyer gonna draw a defender like Justin
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Fields does? Probably not. But some of the things that
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: they were doing that I thought the Patriots could mimic
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: were tossing the ball outside of David Montgomery on some
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: of those crack toss plays or sweet plays. They also
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: got downhill a little bit on the Packers defense, but
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: I would try to run away from guys like Kenny
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Clark and Rashan gary Ron, away from everybody, just throw
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: it to the outside. And we were talking about the
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: two high stuff that they've been doing as well, so
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: that doesn't give them as much help or kind of
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: those forced defenders on the outside to push it back inside.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: So it was like another big flat pass game. Can
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I just change the subject real quick so I can
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: make an apology? Okay, did I call Doc Flinn a
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: hack yesterday? Yes? Okay, I want to apologize for that
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: because I didn't mean anything to do with her as
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: a doctor. Okay, Like I see you on Twitter to
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: someone who's doing their thing with ay, send the other
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: person the thing. So I'm getting tattled on to Doc Flint.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I've never even met, uh, doctor Flynn. So this is
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: like when I was talking about the injuries. I don't
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: necessarily care with someone who's not treating a person, and
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: I think she's pretty clear with that right that she's not.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: So I don't, like, I want to apologize for using
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the word hack because that's not what I meant, and
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I said it, I'll own it and apologize for it.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: But that's I wasn't. Yeah, nothing you'd also do with
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: her ability to you know, to administer medicine and as
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: a doctor, like, nothing to do with that. So it
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: was I told you not to tell on I just
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I just want to be clear that I'm apologizing for
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: using the word hack. Let's go to David and Maryland. David,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: are you a hack? I certainly hope. Okay, So I'm
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: one quick note and then a question. And so I
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: flew up from Ledge in the past game, big fat fan.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: I brought my seventy year old Ravens fan loving dad
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: and there was this first NFL game ever, and I'm
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: glad I'll be able to crust it up the bucket list,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: but I was tempted to leave them there after the game.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: My question is pertaining to the special teams do you think.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: I guess the Patriot as an organization and coach Belichech
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: really values having those star works one special teams. I
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: obviously Slater is one I think of, um, Cody Davis
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: has been a while for a while. I think Joe
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Cardona has been the longest napper for some years. Just
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: having those star works that even though office and defense
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of turnover having those special teams people
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: in place over the years. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: think it's clearer. There's no doubt they value it as much,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: if not more than I think any team in the league.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I mean, I just think the unfortunate thing is you
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: were getting a lot of plays, especially back in like nineteen,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: game changing positive plays. In the last couple of years
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: it's been some game change negatively. No, I wonder if
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: like they've actually got data behind you know, having you know,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: the handful of guys you can depend on on your
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: roster for special teams overways having those guys that you
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: know play offense defense at the low end of the roster,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: like there's data that supports that. I wonder. I think too,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: there's probably a deep dive that people don't really do
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: where like they seem to specifically get really good gunners,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: and they specifically want to make sure that the personal
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: protector on the punt team is a guy that they
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: trust and know what they're doing. But beyond that, I'd
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: be curious what the problem is. Lately they've been making
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: mistakes in special teams. It hasn't been as solid as
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: it's been in the past. It set like last weekend.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: The return last weekend is you know, I mean that
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I think things might have gotten a little skewed by
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: in nineteen or would they block like three or four
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: punts for the recover for touchdowns? And then Gunner Olschski
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: went off on like three or four games and was
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: suddenly one of those things. It's like when you complete,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you know, four thirty yard passes in the same game,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: it kind of skews your yards per play. I see
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: what you did there in a three game span. Really
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: good special teams matchup. Rich Boss, the special teams coordinator
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: for the Packers, was the interim coach for the Raiders
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: last year. He's a very very good special teams coordinator
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: and was a good head interim head coach for Vegas
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: ye special teams for a train wreck last year and
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: ended up ultimately costing them the season. Yeah, so the
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Packers right now, I think Belichick said it three or
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: four times at the press conference. Yes, are a number
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: one in the league in field position. They have the
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: best starting field position, the best opponents starting field position,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: because they don't turn the ball over and they play
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: well and special teams. So I think to your point
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: about why did the Patriots value special teams so much
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: is because they want to make opponents drive eighty yards
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: every single time they touch the ball. Now, the turnovers
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: have not really played so well into that lately, but
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: that's the goal, is to make the opponent drive the field.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Even when you have to punt, you'd still making them
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: drive the field so that you aren't giving up easy
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: touchdowns in your territory. And those are funny to me,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: because thanks David, I think you can. I mean, I
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: think anybody that goes into a season any football coaches says,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: I don't really care about the Mike March thing. Remember
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Mike maybe spend more time. Marks famously didn't care about
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: special teams, right. I mean, anybody that does that is
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: is really doing his team with disservice. I mean obviously
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: you have to take every element of football very seriously.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: The question is do you have to devote the resources
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: that the Patriots typically have over the years in order
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: to have good special teams? Yeah? I wish someone would
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: do a study on like, okay, other teams that are
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: really good on special teams? Do they all have seven
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: eight nine year veterans that are making like two million
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: a year serving as you know, the the L four
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: on the kickoff team? Or do other teams just have
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: you know this, this sixth round rookie defensive back goes
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: down and covers punts because he doesn't have a role
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: on defense. Maybe Bill thinks the better guys I have
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: on special teams, the less time I have to think
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: about it. I also think, but that's what I'm asking.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Are those guys better that they? Yeah? Then who that
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: this is what I'm asking? But like, but like, who
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: is what I'm asking? Like Matthew Slayter is is better?
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Like was Gerard Cherry better than everybody else? No? But
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: what's his name? Was Nate Edner better than everybody else?
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: He was really good? Like? Well, how do you know?
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: This is what I'm asking? Because of the results specialty Okay, well,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I think Mike just explain to you that the results
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: haven't always been good. Well lately they haven't. I said
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: that myself. But over over the dynasty they were good.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: They had really good special teams. But I think the
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Fred's original point, would you rather have on this team
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: right now Trey Nixon on the fifty three man roster
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: versus Cody Davis or versus Brandon Schooler who looks like
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: a good, young, up and coming special teams guy, and
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: maybe they can turn it over to when Matthew Slater
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: retires or Cody Davis retires. I just don't know if
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: it's were I feel like everybody argues about this that
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: the Patriots have too many special teams on these guys,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: but it's like who would be taking their spot on
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: the roster. It's not like we're saying that they're keeping
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: Matthew Slater and not trading for Davante Adams right like
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: they're they're keeping Matthew Slater over guys that are now
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: probably on their practice squad anyways. So I'm not sure
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: where that if he's the fifty second guy, is the
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: guy they are going to replace him with really that good?
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: That it's such and I wonder if they've like actually
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: deep dived into that with data, and I would even well,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I have actually had conversations with some people about this stuff,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: some people and mak Nope people in the organization, and
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: it's definitely a conflict of philosophy. Yeah, really all right,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: But to you a point like I don't mind necessarily
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: a Brandon Schooler. I mind more of the Cody Davis's
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: um you know, when the Brandon Kings, you know, and
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be like Trey Nixon. I mean
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: it could be you know, it could be anybody like well,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I think like the way we've talked about this a
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: lot over the years, which is just giving guys that
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: more of a chance to play, and guys that you know,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: like like Anthony Jennings or you know, seen with like
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: DeMarcus Mitchell. This year he's getting the chance on special teams.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: So like, I think that's in the positive for us,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: goes to me be your special teamers. Yeahs undrafted rookies
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: like blow right, like developing Josh Bloods and in three
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: years the Brendon Schooler or DeMarcus Mitchell do not figure
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: to factor in ever on defense. I don't want them
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: becoming six year guys. I want the new Brendon schooler
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: to come in who maybe three years later, can be
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: the third safety. Yeah on a rookie contract, right, yeah?
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: So how long to wrap up the special team's portion
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: of the show? How long? What I mean? And I
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: don't have I don't have specifics, you know me? Yeah, no,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: that's fair. How long does the Miles Briant thing as
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: point returner last before we see Marcus Jones? Because it's
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: it's starting to get to the point where, you know,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: let's let the guy that was an All American returner
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: in college that you drafted in the third round, Well,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: but I just return. What's going on in practice? Is
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Marcus Jones, like, you know, bobbling it all over the
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: place practice? Yeah, well, maybe bobbling it anymore than Miles
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Brian games. Maybe he could, and that's why he's not
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: out there. It's like, I don't know, It's like guy
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: who fumbles doesn't play Bill versus rookies don't really play Bill.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: And they're kind of like right now they're Batton heads.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: I mean, I think we're all a surprise that Miles
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Bryant's continue to get shots you know that they haven't.
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: I mean, at least turn at the Peppers or somebody,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: you know, like one of them. I mean, if you
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: don't want to go with Marcus Jones, there's another option. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Marcus Jones did tell me that the biggest difference to
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: him between college and pros fielding punts is that the
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: ball actually comes down a lot faster in the pros
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: and in college. And I think a lot of the
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: punters in college use that like AUSI rugby style punt,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: which is more of a line drive, whereas with Jake
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Bailey and the NFL punters, it's a straight, you know,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: up and down type shot and the ball comes down
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: a lot faster than it. Never thought of it that way,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: I always because I always have seen guys that are
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: great returners in college, and you're always like, it's because
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: they get in line drives kicked right to them, which
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: is very returned. How many times you say this one's returnable.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: You never see those fans of kicks in the pros
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: like they never kicked the line drives. I mean, rare,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: rare exception where a guy mishits one. I never thought
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: of the actual velocity of the ball. Yes. I thought
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: it was a really interesting answer because I figured he
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: would say, oh, the gunners get down there faster, or
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: the play just happens faster in general, or whatever. But no,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: the first thing out of his mouth was about the
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: apex of the ball and how much harder Maybee having
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: trouble catching it in practice. To me, I don't know,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: too high. I didn't expect it to be that high
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: and come down that fast. It's gonna take a few months. Sneak, sneaky,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I'm telling you, like I just come out and say it.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: You just come out and say it. He skirts around
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: the corner. I want to see Marcus Jones. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: me too too. I mean I wanted to see Dugger
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: return kicks for like three years. They finally did and
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: he hurt himself. Andy and Cleveland. I'm an athletic trainer
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: and physical therapist. I was at a football medical conference
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen in Boston where Bill Belichick was the
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: keynote speaker and then San Diego Charger head team physician
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: mentioned that basically every single player will demand a second
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: opinion as soon as they get hurt. He mentioned this
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: is mostly driven by the agents. He noted one anecdote
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: where he got a call from a player's agent saying
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: that they wanted a second opinion, and the doctor had
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: to tell him, I haven't given you a first opinion yet.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: This is basically standard procedure, and we shouldn't infer a
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: lot out of it when someone gets a second opinion.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: There are probably sometimes where there is a lack of trust,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: sometimes where it is patient doing due diligence before a
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: major medical decision, like Fred and his kid with the
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: hard issue, or the agent positioning for a later injury settlement,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: or diluting the narrative that his player is injury prone. Yeah,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: I mean I didn't. I mean personally I didn't. I
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: didn't read a lot into the second opinion. But the
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: wishy washiness of back and forth of what's going on
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: with him right now? That No, that's what That's what's
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: bump to me. It's less about second opinions and more
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: about surgery or No, that's what I'm concerned. That's what
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I'm interested in, not concerned about. I'm interested in whether
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: or not he has surgery. What's that surgery? Like the Yeah,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I watched YouTube video about it last night because I'm
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: just curious to learn more about what exactly it is,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: because it's like this latted surgery or whatever, and we
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: kept what do we bring in information on what do
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: we do? It literally looks like something out of like
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Rambo or something that like some action hero movie star
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: would do because he like, you know, his ankle got
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: like dislocated in the middle of a battle and he
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: had to just pop it back with like a bowie knife.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: It's just where do they like they is it just
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: a small kind of cut and they go in and
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: to come Yeah, well it's it's mainly just like the
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: the tight literally tight rope right like it's it's the
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: way that they like they basically pulled the tendons in
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: your ankle back together essentially. And I think the biggest
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: thing is about it that some doctors and this is
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: not me talking, this is me reading up on this surgery,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: there's a little bit of an odd you know, at
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: odds in the medical community because some people and Alabama
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: is notorious for rushing guys back from injuries. Some people
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: think that it makes you come back faster, but it
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily heal you faster. So that's how David Chow,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the former Chargers doctor, described it this morning in the story. Yeah,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: so it's one of those things where it's, yes, he
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: could technically get back on the field faster, but for
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: his long term health it might not be what's in
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: his wondering about. And that's what I said, like, you know,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: like I understand like people are like just they just
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: use these things. So that means that, you know, this
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: is what everybody should do. Tuh had an opportunity to
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: have surgery and be back in time for the National Championship,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: and he did it. He also ended up getting hurt again,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: and there's a there's definitely and I don't know if
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: this is fact, this is speculation, but there's definitely a
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: line of thought that the injury that he ended up suffering,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: the ankle injury, he ended up suffering an ankle injury
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: again that they think may have been related to why
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: he hurt his hip the following year. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: get off kilter. I don't know if that's fact, but
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: if I'm Mac Jones, I want to get as much
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: information about that stuff as I can because if I
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: have an injury that doesn't require surgery for one, healing
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I don't just want to dive into it because I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: can get back in two weeks instead of three, especially
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: one that's named after a very small margin for error.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: It's Alabama is notorious for this, for drilling into their
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: players heads that you come back as quickly as possible.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Like I think it was Jalen Waddle maybe who played
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: on like a ruptured achilles in like the National Championship game. Yes,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: he literally went out there on achilles tear and a
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: skating on thin ice surgery. Yeah, yeah, so they just
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: rush guys back. Georgia does the same thing with Kirby Smart,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: who's one of those programs have in common? Yea, Yeah,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: you got a list of guys over here that can
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: take your job that there every bit as talented as
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: you are. Yeah yeah, why do you think they want
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: to do it? Yeah, he's a player. No, if you're
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: if you're I mean, just think about like what we know.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: I know. So if you're Jalen Hurts and in in
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: In Tuah and Mac Jones, like you guys are at
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: practice every day together, you know that all three of
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: you guys can play. You're not stupid. You might think
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: you're the best of the three and Hurts might think
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: he's the best or whatever. But if I'm tuah, I'm
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: not going to give you a three game look at
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: that guy, so you can see, huh, he's as good
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: as I. I mean, he might do that better than
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I do. Like that's why there's there's probably more desperation
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: to get back in college. Yeah, because you got to
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: get to the pros and make your money. Yeah, I'll
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: never forget Jalen Waddle. That was crazy, just like you
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: see him mat there, but he's actually gonna play. He's
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: still and he's still fast. That's pretty fast. Well, the
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: pickets guy came back and played in the off the
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: town ACL. Right, he played in the National champions like
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: five months recovery, Yeah, all right, Well he actually played
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: the game with a town ACL pickings towards ACL and
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: like the spring and came back. Was it five months?
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: I think it's five months. He came back and played
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: in the National Championship game. Crazy, Eldred's in North Carolina spring,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: there's probably August. Hey, fella's how y'all doing to day? Good? Good? Yeah,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I was listening to y'all earlier about your discussion and
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Paul and Fred hilarious. Oh that was that was an
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: old which you say you had to pay somebody. That's
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: the problem with Bill. You don't want to pay somebody
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: except this guy. That's the problem I have with him,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: because you made a good point. If Thordan turned out
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: to be that receiver that you always wanted and we
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: need it, and you let him walk after four years,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: they can get another one in the draft. Okay, he's
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: be drafting another one anyway, but he gonna take that
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: production right there, or Gugger or Baltimore, Baltimore or Steven Stevens.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: I keep Stevens in and Harry, you know, because that's
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: my my cool guy. Matt gotta have somebody if it
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: ain't Mad the next quarterback, you know. So that's my
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: That's always been my great with feels that part right there.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: But I'm like you for Paul. If the kid need
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: to come back three weeks, let it be three weeks.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: If you come if you try to come back in
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: two and play, that's this decision too, because there ain't
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: nobody body but he and antybody creabley right that it
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: should be his to look at it. Yeah, Well that's
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: all I got. Fell You have a good one. All right, Uldred,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: thank you. Well, it's that time of the week. I
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: got it's now I gotta have like three different The
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: girls are really screwing, y'all. Yeah, yeah, Where where's Alice?
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: Do you mean the with us here against us? Where
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: where's Alan? I'm sure you're not sure you're her boss?
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: I'm not sure. Yeah, keep putting them in track and
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: tamaraw do we know anyway? She's upstairs. She's upstairs, Okay,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: she doesn't want to all right. So last week, um,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: let's see, Alex and Paul went nine and seven, Fred
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: went eight and eight, Mike went five and eleven. That's overall,
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: it's bad, five and eleven, just winners. No spread, it's
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: not great, no, no, far from great. Not good with
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: the spread. Paul stands at the top, is off in
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: the case ten and six. Good week, Uh, Alex eight
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: and eight, followed by Fred at five and eleven and
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: Mike at four and twelve. That week. Season standings r
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: AS follows um Paul twenty seven, twenty and one. A
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: terrible record to be setting face with the only one
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: over five. Actually, Alex in two weeks is nineteen and thirteen.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Tamaris seven eight and one. She only did one week
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: Fred twenty one, twenty six and one, Mike twenty twenty
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: seven and one, just picking winners. Didn't know you could
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: do that with the spread. I am twenty seven and
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: twenty one, Alex is sixteen and sixteen, Mike is twenty
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: and twenty eight, and Fred is sixteen and thirty two.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Oh my god, don't do not fatal follow Fred. Just
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: just here, get away from him, not week here. I
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: have my feeling is gone right out of training camp.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: He has no feel for the league. So Ev, you're
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: gonna pick this week in the second spot, okay, so
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that Mike will go, and then you have to make
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: a pick. And unlike Eric Sclavino, you do not have
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: to give a diet tribe about pause. Yeah, thank no thesis, Yeah,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: thirty your notes right, and we picked straight up and
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: against the spread. Right. So Fred often says, you know,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: there's there's nothing really at stake here, so you don't
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: don't worry. Just by me way in the weeks, all right.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: Tonight eight fifteen on Prime Video, the three and oh
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Dolphins travel to the one and two Bengals Cincinnati by
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: three and a half. Seen on the TV that the
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: ta is expected to play. Um, I'm gonna take Cincinnati
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: and I will lay the points. I think they'll maybe
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: start to find something. I think maybe, don't listen to me.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I'm not good. I like Cincinnati to cover Miami. A
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: weird week for them with the hurricane down there to
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: come up early unexpectedly. Yeah, I was gonna take that.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I was gonna take Cincinnati regardless, but I was gonna
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: take the points. But I do think that the preparation,
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: in addition to the short week, and that defense is
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: going to be gassed ninety plays in that heat and
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: now they have a short week. I'm gonna take the
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Bengals both time. I'll take the Bengals too, but it's
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: against my rules. I hate the Bengals. Nine thirty in
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: the morning on Sunday from London. The two and one
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: Vikings are at the one and two Saints. Vikings by
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: two and a half. Two and a half. Where was
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: this game London? No? But we are which which is it? Wembley?
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I think I believe it's that affects your pick. Yes,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: oh no, Minnesota, I've been there. Yeah, well, thanks for nothing.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Minnesota. I always picked them incorrectly. Um,
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: but I kind of feel like the Saints are fading
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: and then the shines come off. Jameis Winston. I think
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: Minnesota backbones will come off. That helps too. I like
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Minnesota because nine thirty am, nobody is watching Kirk Cousins
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: at that time, and nobody is watching Tuh. Yeah, I'll
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: take Minnesota too. I did like Annyager had one of
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: those uh you know the clips that she does all
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: the time, and she's like, um that she put the
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Viking show. We played it, we played at eight thirty,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: and she's like a m am like that. Poe's well
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: for the Patriots and Thanksgiving, doesn't it His record in
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: prime time is terrible. Well, I'll look that up. Monday
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: Night record I believe is two and eleven. I don't
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: know what his records generally in prime time. I know
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: he won a primetime game. It's crazy how predictable it
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: is too. It's like every primetime he was on what
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: Thursday night or something like that Monday night I think
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: it was that Monday night double header. Last day night
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: they lost a Philly Yeah, and just horrible. I'm gonna
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: go with the Vikings as well. One o'clock, The two
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: and one Browns visit the one and two Falcons. Cleveland
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: by one and a half, one and a half. I'm
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: gonna go I'll go with the home dogs. I'm gonna
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: take Atlanta. I don't really know why, but yeah, I'll
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: take Cleveland. I like their roster obviously, that's they just
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: need the quarterback. But the rest of that roster, well,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: we'll see what happens with Miles Garrett if he's gonna play.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: But football car still gonna take Cleveland, and I'm gonna
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: take Cleveland too, for the same reason. I just think
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: they're a better team. Yeah, Falcons screwed me last week.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Cleveland. Yeah, I got that one wrong.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: One o'clock the two and one Bills. They thought they
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: were gonna be undefeated this season. No you did, No,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: they did. They don't care. Are at the two and
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: one Ravens Buffalo by three. I'm gonna take Buffalo. I
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: think they'll take advantage of that Baltimore secondary that I thought,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: you know, the Patriots kind of did as well, so, um,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: you know, good game MVP type candidates at quarterback. But
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Buffalo all later points. I'm not sure
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: why this game is at one o'clock. This is two
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: contenders or two MVP quarterbacks. Probably should be a primetime game.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: I also like Buffalo to bounce back in this game.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: It's a tough game for me with all those guys
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: that are out for Buffalo. I'm gonna take Buffalo to
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: bounce back, mainly because I was not overly impressed with
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Baltimore other than m Lamar Jackson. I'll take Buffalo here.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I think I think the overrunder for passing yards for
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Josh Allen. This game should be four fifty. I really
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: think so. Yeah. Um so I'm gonna take Buffalo one o'clock.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: Um the one and two Commanders are at the two
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: and one Cowboys with Cooper Rush Dallas by three three
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: huh Yeah, that's kind of on the who cares calling
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: for me? I'm gonna go with I'll go with Dallas
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: at home and Cooper Rush. I'm gonna go Dallas too.
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: I think probably the best player in football in the
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: first three weeks of the season, it's Michael Parsons. He's
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: defensive player of the year through three weeks, if that
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: means anything. Yeah, yeah, I'll take Dallas too. Been impressed
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: with the way they've been able to piece it together
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: here and buy some time until dak is ready. I
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: will take Dallas, but I'm gonna hedge that, and I'm
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: gonna take the points. NFC East you never know, you know,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: sometimes they play each other tough. So I will go
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: with the Commanders to cover or whatever that means. It's
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: one o'clock. The one and two Seahawks are at the
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: one and two Lions, Detroit by four and a half.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: Four and a half. Okay, that went down a little
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: bit from mine. Big game for Detroit prior to come
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: in here to New England. I'll take the I'll take
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: the Lions at home. I like the Lions to their
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: their running game has actually been pretty legit. I'll take
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: the lines. This is unbelievable. I too, will take the Lions. Yeah.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna lay the points too. I'll take Detroit both ways. Yeah,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I am gonna take Detroit as well. Wow. Wow, I
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: can't remember the last time everybody picked the Troy Hardy.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: One o'clock. The one and two Chargers are at the
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: O two and one Texans, the lack by five and
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: a half. Man that's an interesting game. So it seems
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: like everything going wrong for the Charges right now, between
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Herbert and Bosa, but Houston just doesn't have much. I'll
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: take the Charges to win, but i'll take those points.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: I think it'll be close between two kind of struggling teams. Yeah, Herbert,
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: Shan Slater and Joey Bosa two guys does last two
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: on injured reserve for the Chargers. That's a tough way
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: to start your season. So I'm gonna go with the Chargers,
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: but I like Houston to cover. Yeah, I'm gonna do
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: the same thing. I would add the receiver, I think
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: the third receiver guiding towards Ac Yell. He's out. Jac
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Jackson's missed a couple of games, a lot of injuries
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: for the Chargers. Yeah, so I'll take the points. I'm
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: gonna go with the upset Texans win outright. That's why
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: I'm sixteen and thirty two one o'clock. The one and
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: two Titans are at the one one and one Colts.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: Colts by three and a half. Colts with a surprising
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: win last week against the Chefs. I usually I'm a
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: Vrabel guy, and I believe in that team, but I
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: think they are another one of those teams trending down.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Indie at home to cover. Yeah, I'm
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: with Indie two. Gus Bradley actually cooking something up last
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: week for Patrick Mahomes, you know, typically one of those
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: guys that just does what he does, but spun the
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: dial a little bit last week. So I'll go with
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: the Colts. I will take Indie to win, but I
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: will take the hook and take Tennessee to cover. I
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: will take Tennessee outright, so not only do they cover,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: but they win without the upset pick of the week. Folks. No,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: that was the Texans. Folks think that one might be
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: coming last today one o'clock. The two and one bears
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: right right the way you do, exactly at the two
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: and one Giants, Giants by three and a half. This
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: is uh feel sorry for the people that have to
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: watch this one. No, I'll take the Giants. I know,
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: a little bit of a stumble, but I'm gonna take
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: them to bounce back at home, just because I think
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: Chicago sticks a tough one because the Bears don't trust
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: Justin Fields to throw and Daniel Jones can't throw, So
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: which quarterback do you go with in that situation question,
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: I'll go at the Giants because they're at home. Yeah,
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the Giants for the same reason. Um,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: do you think it's all about justin fields? Are about
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: those around him? I think it's a little bit of everything.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: Darnell Mooney is probably his best receiver. Yeah, but I
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: think they were really worried about getting him killed offensive line. Yeah.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: But I'm gonna take the Giants either way. Yeah, me too.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Giants the dable Giants one o'clock, two and one, Jaguars
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: at the three and oh. Eagles. Fun game, I know,
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: like sneaky Eagles, buy six and a half. Man, It's
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: I mean, Jacksonville want to surprise teams of the year.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence looking a lot better, actually has some real coaches.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: But I think I think Philly's legit. I'm a little
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: bit surprised, but I'm gonna take Philly and I'm gonna
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna lay those points as much as I'm tempted
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: to think it's gonna be a close game. Yeah, watching
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Philly in primetime last week, you realize how loaded their
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: roster is. Like Darius Slay is probably like the sixth
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: best player on their team, which is amazing. So I
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: take Philly here. I'm gonna take Philly two, but i
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: will take the points. I'm a starting to become a
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: believer in in Jacksonville, so I'll take the points. I'll see.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: I think they will keep it close. Maybe a backdoor cover.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: I'm with you, Paul Trevor Lawrence. I like them. They
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: cover one o'clock the one and two. Jets are at
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: the one and two Steelers. Steelers by three. It looks
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: like Zach Wilson will be his dabut. Jack Wilson is
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: gonna make his debut. UM. That's a tough one, tough one, Um,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: and I'm gonna go for it with the Jets. I'm
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: gonna say Zach Wilson uh gets the win in his
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: return at Pittsburgh. Tough pick, but I'm gonna go for it.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: I'm taking Pittsburgh. I actually think Zach Wilson coming back
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: might hurt the Jets, not helping them. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: take the Jets. Um, I'm breaking my rule two bad
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: teams usually take the home team, but I'm gonna break
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: my rule in this one. I think they'll get a
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: little bit of a bump from from Wilson. Okay, I'm
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: gonna take the Steelers. Steelers at home now, he moved
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: to four or five. The one and two Cardinals are
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: at the one and two Panthers, Carolina by one and
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: a half. Yeah, I just, uh, Christian McCaffrey miss practice
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: again today. I gotta I gotta go with Arizona. I mean,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: I'm surprised at how bad they've been, but I'm gonna
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: take them as a road upset as well, not upset,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: but you know, this Cardinals offense is mess right now,
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: but I still think that they have enough talent to
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: beat a team like Carolina. So I'll take Arizona. Yeah,
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: I mean, I think the three of us might be
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: and for I just think this line looks backwards to me.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Arizona too, but maybe they're just not
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: very good. I am as well. I'm gonna take Arizona
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: twenty five. The two on one Broncos are a rare
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: away game. They're at Las Vegas the Owin three Raiders
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Raiders by two and a half. I gotta go with
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Josh and the Raiders. I think they got to get
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: their first win. They got too much talent. And Denver,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: I mean, they're playing a little better, But I'm gonna
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: go with Vegas and and hope for Josh and those
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: guys to get the dub. Yeah. I think this is
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: this is the week for Josh McDaniels to finally get
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: a win. It's really been Derek Carr hasn't really seen
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: the field very well, but I think this is the
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: week that they finally get together. Got to simplify the office.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: I haven't watched much of it. How much of that
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: you think has been called? Are not being comfortable yet
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: in that offense? I think it's weird about to him
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: just playing badly. Yeah, I think what's weird about it
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: is that he's missing Davante Adams a lot, which is
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: like the guy that they traded for because they can
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: when in doubt. Yeah, you know, it's weird. I would
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: be interesting, though, get his first win against Denver. They
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: hate him, they hate Josh. But I'm gonna take the Raiders,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: will probably going forward with picking them too. Yeah, I'm
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: gonna go with the Raiders as well. At some point
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: they gotta get off the Schneider. I just think I
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: don't think I've seen very many games that were worse
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: than that primetime game last week with San Francisco and Denver.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: Denver setback offense decades in that game. My eyes are
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: just cooling off. They burned right out of my They're not.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Wilson might be washed. I just I'm that close. Like
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: he just doesn't look like he can play anymore. And
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: I don't know if it's just because of the guy
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: that's coaching, or they got talented offense too awful. Yeah,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: they got receivers that's not a talent issue on offensive,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: and they could run the ball too. They give him extension. Yeah, oh,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: he looks terrible. Now we're gonna skip over the Patriots
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: at four twenty five and we're gonna go to eight
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: twenty one. The two and one Chiefs are at the
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: two and one Buccaneers. Uh. This game, as of now
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: is still at Raymond James Stadium. It could be played
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: in Minnesota. I think it's officially been Oh is it
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: officially an update? Officially official? I saw that. Yeah, Adam Schefter,
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: it's staying in Tampa. Yes, okay, Wow, So at Raymond
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: James Stadium. The Chiefs are favored by one and a
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: half and Brady's guys any any any weaponry coming back
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: like Mike Evans is right, I don't think it's gonna
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: be enough. I'm gonna take the Chiefs on the road.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: I'll lay the points. Yeah, that that offense last week.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: I know Mike Evans comes back, but they couldn't run
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: the ball against the Packers. The receivers were limited. I
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: like Kansas City here as well. Yeah, I'll take the
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Chiefs too. I hate doubting Tom Brady at your own peril,
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: but I will take the Chiefs. I'm gonna take the
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Chiefs as well. Monday night, eight fifteen, the two and
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: one Rams are at the one and two forty nine Ers.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Forty nine is by one and a half? Really? Wow?
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Am I the only surprised by that? Rams haven't played
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: well either? I guess I just remember that came from
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: last week with San France. No, but I hear what
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: you're saying. No, it's a strange. It's a strange spread
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: to me. But you know, I think San Francisco is
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: pretty good, only a point and a half favorite at home. Yeah,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna take the Rams. Yeah, I'm blanking
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: on the there's some weird NFC West trends where like
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: certain m Yeah, so that's probably why the line is
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: what it is. So I like San Francisco in this
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: game because it seems like they have each other's numbers
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: in that division. Yeah, the Rams own the Cardinals and
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: the Niners own the Rams, right. I think that's the
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: way that That's the way love goes owns. Um, I'm
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: gonna take the Rams just because I like them. I'm
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: gonna take the Rams as well. Even trends get to
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: be broken sometimes, all right. Now we go back to
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: four twenty five. Uh, the one and two Patriots are
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: visiting Lambeau for the two and with the two and
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: one Packers Packers by ten ten points. Uh yeah, I
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: think the Patriots are are gonna play hard in this one.
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: I think their defense will you know, largely contain green
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: Bay's offense for much of the game. Um, you know,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I think the Patriots offense will move the ball. I
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: want they'll probably struggle in the red zone though, So
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I see green Bay kind of pulling away late, kind
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: of similar to that Kansas City game. Maybe not as
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: low scoring, but I'm gonna take a green Bay thirteen
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: I have the same feelings as Mike on this one.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: I had twenty four ten, the exact same score from
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: the Chiefs game in twenty twenty when Hoyers started just
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: I think green Bay scores that touchdown late, though, I
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: think the Patriots keep this competitive. I think the score
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: of that game was twenty six to ten, but six
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: gon nitpick, Why don't you look at I'm picking nits.
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: I am gonna take green Bay. I am having the opposite. Well,
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: I think they get a lead and sort of coast
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: and the Patriots have the back door cover. I'm gonna say, well,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: it's gonna actually land on ten here, unfortunately, but I'm
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: gonna take the Patriots to cover. I'll say twenty six
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: sixteen Green Bay a lot of field goals. Okay, folks,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: these are the times that try the souls of Patriots.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Do we need the music? Do we need some background music?
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: Do you have anything patriotic? God bless America. I'm talking
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: to you, Bill Belichick. Bury the ball, show them that
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: horse race, Tell them about Shackleton's vacation. What's their vacation,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: high it was an adventure, whatever it was. Take them bowling,
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: Do whatever you have to do, show them miracle on ice,
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: bringing the kid to do the motivational talk, whatever you
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: have to do, pull out all the stops, because this
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: is where we got to rally the troops. This is
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: where we got to circle the wagons. We gotta get
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: around Axel Hoyer and and you know, make up for
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: him and come together in this at lambeau Field. What
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: would be better than going to lambeau Field and coming
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: back with a win. They've done tougher things, They've done
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: tougher things before, we can do it. I remember Troy
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Brown playing I remember Troy Brown playing corner against the
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: greatest show on turf and the Patriots coming back with
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: that win. No one thought they could do it. Adam
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: Vinatari throwing a touchdown in that game, remember that ball.
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: I Doah Smock Boulder playing quarterback for the Rams, though
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: not Adamon Rodgers, Okay, but that he had a lot
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: of a lot of weapons, a lot of weapons models.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: So I'm taking the points what the Patriots lose. So
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: you're doing the same. So you're doing the same thing
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: as me after all of that. Yeah, yeah, all right, yeah,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: Well while you were doing that, we were watching on
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: a sports center. They were picking in their eliminator pool,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: and all four of the pundits chose green bag day.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: That's such an you can't like, can you look yourself
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: in the mirror? If you're taking the Packers against the
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Patriots backup quarterback at home, I mean, that's not really
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: going out on a limb, right, Yeah, if I was
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: gonna take I don't generally take the Patriots in those
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: things for obvious reasons. Um, but if I wouldn't have
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: had anything to do with the quarterback. If if I
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: look the Packers at home, I don't think we're gonna
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: lose that game. We'll see. Everything's offense is not not
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: what you think of when you think of Aaron Rodgers
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: right now. But they're playing a defense that I know
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I picked. I do think there's hope. I do think
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: there's hope. And it's up to the Patriots defense. You know,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: if you can keep somehow the Packers under twenty, there's
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: a chance, there's a chance. I agree. It's all a
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: lot of the things that the Packers are doing offensively
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: to move the ball is play action, RPO, you know,
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: bootlegs stuff, Shanahan stuff like. That's their offense right now.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: If you get them into a drop back passing game
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: and just make them beat you by throw into the
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: five eligible receivers. It's six yards per tempt. It's not
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: a good drop back passing offense at the moment. It's
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: a very The protection has been okay, but his numbers
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: under pressure have plummeted, which I think those two things
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: traditional drop back passing and pressure. If those things are
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: bad and the quarterback, you know, is not the problem,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: usually that indicates that receiver separation is the issue that
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: they're going against. And that's sort of what I saw
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: on film from the Packers last week. Is if Lafleur
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: can scheme it up and Rogers has the quick release
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: and can kind of manipulate guys and stuff like that,
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: but the best of them, then they can make some plays.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: But the second that you actually just play football eleven
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: on eleven, the Packers offense is not what it used
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: to be. Sounds like, like you said yesterday, the twenty
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: nineteen Patriots exactly the same thing. So big game for
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: Dietrich Wise, maybe Christian barm More. Do you think Barmore,
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: if guy doesn't play, he gets early snaps on downs
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: like early down snaps sure, yeah, but like, is that
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: a liability against the run or because maybe? But I mean,
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: I don't know, But I mean I'm always like, just
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: go for it and let him play and let him
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: make plays and let him blow some plays and you know,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: get get over the hump with this stuff. You know,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: just get him out there and get him used to
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: play in the whole game and you know, making big
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: plays in the big moments when it comes down the stretch.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: You know, that's what you want out of Christian Barmore
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: a closer. But I like the idea of like pushing
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: that pocket. But that's when Rogers throws. The trouble is
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: they're a better running team right now, believe it or not. Yeah,
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: this wide zone scheme that they run though, remember from
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: the Super Bowl and against the Rams, penetration is the
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: poison for this. So if you're a Christian Barmore, this
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: is one of those weeks where shooting gaps and getting
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: in the backfield instantly off the run is not a
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: bad thing. You know, some weeks you don't want to
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: be undisappointed and come out of your gap and stuff
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: like that. But this week is one of those weeks
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: where if you can get early penetration. I'm sure they'll,
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: you know, have some of those run blitzer where they
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: kind of just shoot Duan Bentley through the A gap
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: and try to get him in the backfield too. That's
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: the type of scheme. He has, a delayed outside zone
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: type of scheme. And if you can get up the
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: field against them, I'll never forget Belichick and the whichever
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: you know miked up segment. It was saying, get vertical,
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: get vertical, get vertical, Like that's the type of scheme
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: that you want to do that against is what they're
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: facing on Sunday. So there could be a big bar
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: Moore game. Finally, one of those games where they take
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: the training wheels off a little bit, so to speak,
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: and let him actually pin his ears back a little
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: bit more unleashed. All right, all right, Well that's gonna
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Oh yeah,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: I got one more note to tell you. This is
